Welcome To The Jungle Movie Review: Remember Airplane, Disaster Movie and This Is The End? Hollywood has toyed with parodies and spoofs for decades. In Bollywood, what we get are self-aware tropes woven into mainstream comedies. And the latest to join the ranks of Quick Gun Murugun, Dhoondte Reh Jaoge and Phone Bhoot is Welcome To The Jungle.

The idea alone is what makes it, well, different. Taking the reins from Anees Bazmee is Ahmed Khan, who remains unapologetic about the tone of his film right from the word go. “Welcome welcome welcome, yaani teen baar welcome. Yeh hai Welcome 3,” announces a character in the first scene. Over the next 2 hours 45 minutes, the title of the film gets repeated in public service, lest you forget!

The film revolves around a business tycoon, a Vijay Mallya lookalike, who decides to evade his tax-related crimes by putting together a Rs 2000 crore film. The catch? It should bomb upon release. His secretary Dubey and blonde daughter Jenny approaches flop director duo Dev and Das and visually challenged DoP Nayansukh to helm this film by bringing together a bunch of flop actors.

They rope in Rajiv, a has-been Bollywood star, who now works in Bhojpuri films. Jenny is set to play the female protagonist along with Nadia, Rajiv’s former lover superstar. Dev and Das are also forced to sign mafia dons Romeo and Anna (Uday Shetty and Majnu’s brothers) to avoid paying back the Rs 2.5 lakh they owe them. Two television stars, a Punjabi singer and two side characters also sign the film.

In a strange turn of events, these actors get caught up in a dangerous situation in Azadganj in PoK, which is often frequented by Mujahideen leader Zatara. In an even stranger climax sequence, they’re required to take on the roles of real army officials and fight Zatara and his gang to protect the village that’s filled with quirky characters, most of who speak unintelligibly.

Penned by late Neeraj Vora, Welcome To The Jungle stands out for its many meta jokes. In one of the funniest scenes, we see an emotional Zoya (played by Raveena Tandon), a resident of Azadganj, responsible for imparting the film its melodramatic quotient, telling Akshay Kumar’s Rajiv, ‘Kahan the tum bees saal se?’ On paper, it’s just another line in the screenplay.

But it plays more like a deliciously meta nod to their off-screen past, a reminder that after years, the two former lovers have found themselves sharing the frame in a film again. Akshay’s character being christened Rajiv in itself is a sly wink at his real name, Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia. In another scene, a character declares that Jacqueline Fernandes’ Jenny is present only to up the glamour quotient.

At yet another point, the first glimpse of Vindu Dara Singh’s character evokes a reaction, ‘Apne aap ko Dara Singh ka aulaat samajhta hai kya?’ These real-life references will make you crack up every now and then. And then comes the one-liners. No, they aren’t the cleverest ones. They appear more like WhatsApp dad jokes but the situation they’re hurled in keep the laughs coming.

This is a film that doesn’t make lofty promises. But what’s lofty is its scale. It’s peppered with vibrant visuals, expansive locations and lavish production design. Rather than holding back, it fully embraces its over-the-top comic universe, turning absurdity into one of its strengths. Ahmed’s vision of putting together a star-studded ensemble deserves a mention too.

However, Welcome To The Jungle comes with its own shortcomings. At 165 minutes, the film often starts testing your patience, particularly in the second half. Even though comedy continues to remain the heart of it, it gives way to action introducing a bunch of more characters. And it is this genre-blend that starts disrupting the pacing.

Welcome To The Jungle is chaotic, incoherent and sometimes, you also end up feeling that there’s no method to this madness. It’s loud, ludicrous and rattling, reminding you of the slapstick humour we frequently watched in the 1990s and the 2000s. But it’s this nostalgia and utter pandemonium that form the crux of this caper. It further believes in its CGI gorilla, nudging you to give in to its folly.

Akshay leads the film effortlessly, bringing his trademark comic timing and anchoring the madness with a performance that’s all about excess. He’s clearly in his comfort zone. And if you thought Welcome To The Jungle has enough characters and more, enters Akshay 2.0. Yes, after Bhooth Bangla, he whips up a double role yet again.

His banter with the likes of Suniel Shetty (Anna), Paresh Rawal (Das) and Rajpal Yadav (Dev) is sure to evoke a chuckle or two and fortunately or unfortunately, he seems to be in better sync with and share a better chemistry with them as opposed to Disha Patani, who plays Nadia. There’s an awkwardness in his scenes with Raveena and you would find yourself rooting for them.

As for the rest of the cast, Jacqueline, Disha, Lara Dutta, Aftab Shivdasani, Tusshar Kapoor and Daler Mehndi get the shorter end of the stick. But it is Farida Jalal and Kiran Kumar, who surprise you with their impeccable comic timing. With one speaking gibberish and the other mouthing the most difficult version of Urdu, you’ll find yourself rolling in laughter every time they converse.

Farida lights up the frame with her presence and steals the show every time she appears in it. Spoiler alert: she’s even seen seducing a terrorist at one point. Kiran and she remain the strongest links of the film. And then there’s the trio of Puneet Issar, Pankaj Dheer and Sudesh Berry, who take you down the memory lane, revising their characters from BR Chopra’s Mahabharat.

Jackie Shroff, on the other hand, appears as Zatara. And while he looks the part of a Mujahideen leader, this is a zone we’ve seen him sinking his teeth into far too many times. The same can be said about Johnny Lever. And even when nothing makes sense and you find yourself questioning why, what and how, Welcome To The Jungle impresses you because of its unapologetic commitment to its own madness.

You don’t know how a bunch of flop actors suddenly fight a group of terrorists and free Indian villagers from their clutch. You don’t know how they suddenly become deft in wielding guns. You don’t know why the women behave in the way they do. You don’t know why people lose their voices each time they get excited. You don’t know why a visually impaired DoP gets to shoot a film.

And you don’t know why most people have fluency disorders. And circling back to its meta references, the makers don’t shy away from taking potshots at actors, their tantrums, their entourage and them feigning shock at paparazzi swarming them despite tipping them off first. Kudos to Akshay for playing along! This is classic guilty pleasure cinema.

Basically, Welcome To The Jungle throws everything at the wall, right from meta humour, slapstick and nostalgia to action and gibberish, and somehow, enough of it sticks. There’s nothing that lies beneath the noise and it may not make sense, but then again, sense was never really the point. It works best when you surrender to its wild, logic-defying energy and simply go along for the ride.

“For me, performance can’t be everything,” Miley Cyrus declared on Friday night, and you had to admire her choice of setting: onstage at the Hollywood Bowl in front of approximately 18,000 people who’d turned up precisely to see her perform.

A star since her teenage days on the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana,” the 33-year-old musician and actor was maybe half an hour into the first of two sold-out concerts at the iconic hillside amphitheater — a place close to Cyrus’ heart, as she explained in a videotaped intro recalling a gig she and her fiancé, Maxx Morando, caught last year by the French band Air.

“I step into wine, which soaks onto my boots,” she said in the dramatic black-and-white clip. “I don’t mind stained leather — it only adds to their character.”

Cyrus’ shows were billed as part of the rollout of her latest album, “Bass Persuades,” which came out in September (and which found her dropping her last name to go simply by Miley). Yet the two-night engagement is really meant to mark her grand return to the stage after she said a few years ago that she’d sworn off touring because it was too harmful to her mental health.

Is “grand” the right word for a comeback as equivocal as this one? Despite all the hype surrounding this weekend’s concerts, Cyrus spoke again and again Friday about how much less space for performance she has in her life these days than she used to; she talked repeatedly about her quest to balance her fans’ emotional needs with her own.

At one point, after singing a couple of numbers on a small B-stage about halfway up the bowl, she walked through the crowd back to the main stage, gripping and grinning the entire way. Then she described the toll her trip had just taken: “I appreciate each of you guys reaching out and touching me, and me getting to feel you. But I do want to say — it is a lot for me,” she said. “It is a little bit overwhelming.”

In an era of parasocial pop stardom, the radical honesty of Cyrus’ approach — her clear-eyed appraisal of the relationship that binds an idol and her audience — was kind of a thrill to behold. The problem was that her singing for the most part wasn’t.

As she described being overwhelmed, her band slowly revved up her song “Wrecking Ball.” It’s one of the great power ballads of the last 25 years, with a chorus as cathartic as any in modern pop; Cyrus, the showbiz lifer, surely understood the payoff she was building toward. Except when the moment arrived, she inexplicably dodged it, skipping the song’s first chorus and soft-pedaling the second — an anticlimax for the ages.

Indeed, Cyrus let the audience and her backup singers handle vocals for many of her biggest hits, among them “The Climb,” “Party in the U.S.A.” and “We Can’t Stop”; during that last one, she twerked for a second, evoking memories of the infamous 2013 MTV performance that briefly scandalized a nation.

She sang more heartily in songs from “Bass Persuades,” which would’ve been better news if that tuneless mishmash of bleary synths and dated club beats weren’t one of the year’s least likable pop records. (This month Variety reported that, after debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the album took the biggest fall in chart history in its second week of release.)

The paradox of Cyrus’ career at this stage is that she wants to do the thing that nobody wants her to do — “Bass Persuades” is just the latest in a string of crummy LPs — and doesn’t want to do the thing that everybody wants her to do. Truly, her bad taste should be studied: On Friday, she welcomed Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips to the B-stage for a duet on “Karen Don’t Be Sad,” from the miserable psych-rock record they made together in 2015. Naturally, Cyrus said it was her favorite of her albums.

One highlight of the show was Cyrus’ tribute to her late godmother, Dolly Parton, whom she memorialized with a rendition of “Jolene” and with a funny and touching account of the time Parton tried unsuccessfully to get Cyrus to sing with her at the Bowl.

I also found myself moved near the end of the night by Cyrus’ performance of the only keeper on “Bass Persuades” — a dreamy little love song called “Let’s Get Married” for which Morando joined her onstage. As he played drums, she ran her hand tenderly over his chest before laying her head on his shoulder; the moment reminded me of that goofy intro video about the Air concert, which she likened to a bubble containing only the two of them.

“That’s how it feels when we’re together,” she said. “I think I’d live in that bubble.”

Marvel just debuted an entirely new series and also stressed something important.

Another series is underway, and they’re not just saying that.

White Vision

So, we’ll do them a solid and give them the benefit of the doubt.

It’s the least we can do during the week when Marvel generously gives us VisionQuest. We’ll discuss both in this week’s MarvelBlog News.

Zodiac Is Totally Real

Agent Coulson and Mockingbird

Marvel has seen the headlines on places like, say, MarvelBlog. The studio knows what people are saying about the future of Marvel content.

Folks like me are flatly stating that Disney+ and Marvel are at odds.

Disney’s streaming service paid hundreds of millions of dollars for Marvel content.

The shows that have done the best, such as Agatha All Along and Loki, cost the least.

Loki tries to bend the Sacred Timeline to his will in Loki Season Two, Episode Six

Image: Marvel

Since Disney’s in cost-cutting mode right now, the perception has become the reality.

Many of us believe that Disney+ wants out of the Marvel live-action content game.

Sometimes the button sticks in Loki Season Two, Episode Six

Image: Marvel

Under that theory, VisionQuest will be the last major project for some time.

After that, Marvel animation will create most of the content for the streaming service.

Seriously, we just learned that we’re getting Marvel Zombies stories in 2027, 2028, and 2029.

Also, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will get a fifth season as well.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Why is all this happening? Animation is cheap, whereas real humans cost money.

Did I mention that Disney is “prioritizing efficiency” right now? Yeah, they’re doing layoffs.

Big Money Deals Marvel

Big Money Deals. Photo: Marvel

Honestly, they’ve done layoffs throughout 2026. We’re on round four at the moment.

That’s why you should take what I’m about to say with a huge grain of salt.

Disney has confirmed that Zodiac will debut on Disney+ in 2028.

I’ve previously mentioned this show, but it’s 100 percent official now. No takebacks.

What’s Zodiac?

Nobody knows yet, and Marvel’s being cheeky about the whole thing.

A few Marvel executives appeared at the recent New York Comic Con.

Brad Winderbaum

During the event, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television spoke.

He said, “If you’re a fan of the comics, there’s a lot hidden in that logo. That’s all you’re getting. It’s supposed to be a secret.”

Agent Coulson and Mockingbird

If you’ve ever wondered whether Marvel has lost the plot, therein lies your proof.

Rather than saying anything of note about an upcoming series that totally exists, they say this.

Bill Paxton birthday

Marvel’s hoping that some die-hard fans will go pixel by pixel on a logo.

Don’t get me wrong. People are already doing it, but that’s just a sign of boredom.

The reality is that Marvel heard the criticism about its winding down of Disney+ live-action content.

So, they threw together a logo in Photoshop and pretended it had hidden meaning.

I don’t mean to be cynical about this, but come on! Marvel hasn’t even cast anybody yet.

At this point, all we know is what Winderbaum told Collider:

CHLOE BENNET, CLARK GREGG, HENRY SIMMONS, JEFF WARD

(ABC/Mitch Haaseth)

“It’s a globetrotting, international espionage show about secrets and lies and betrayals and secret acts of loyalty and an insane cast of characters.”

One report indicates that the cast will include two men and one woman as the leads.

Also, the show will apparently be set in England and feature three English characters.

Early word suggests that it’s a British equivalent to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but you should take that with a grain of salt.

Agents of Shield

Don’t worry. Marvel’s got a calendar year to come up with something before it has to film anything.

Marvel Has Vision

Photo: Marvel

On the bright side, VisionQuest’s first two episodes are now available on Disney+.

Enjoy them while they last, as live-action Marvel programming is about to be in short supply.

We’ll get the conclusion of Daredevil next year and then Zodiac “in 2028.”

It’s going to be thin for a while…and that’s presuming Zodiac actually happens.

White Vision

Photo: Mavel

On the bright side, reviews are mostly positive about VisionQuest.

I wouldn’t describe them as glowing the way that WandaVision and Agatha All Along were.

Source: Marvel Studios

Then again, that’s a really tough bar to clear since they’re both excellent.

The show is currently 84 percent Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes but only a 62 on Metacritic.

Vision is worthy

Many critics have already seen the entire season, which makes the lukewarm reviews a bit worrisome.

I’m mentioning this so that you can calibrate your expectations accordingly.

My confession is that I’ve been busy this week, so I haven’t caught the first two episodes yet.

I’ll probably be caught up by the time you read this, but I can’t offer my own opinion yet.

Hopefully, others have lowered my (and your) expectations, and I’ll (we’ll) love it.

We’re in a bit of a Marvel news lull as we all await Avengers: Doomsday. I’d hoped for bigger headlines at New York Comic Con.

Alas, Zodiac (and its logo) was the biggest we got, which ain’t much. We did learn why Spider-Noir didn’t get a season two…maybe.

Spider-Noir

Actor Nicolas Cage claims that he refused to sign an AI usage waiver for the show.

He states, ““Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI.”

Then, Cage adds that he’s unlikely to work with Amazon ever again.

Ergo, Spider-Noir may have gotten caught in the crossfire. It’s likely too expensive without AI.

Spider-Noir

Reports also suggest that Marvel is currently casting for three other roles in the X-Men movie.

One is the previously rumored Nightcrawler, while the others are Beast and Moira MacTaggert.

Source: Marvel

Also, I’m not reading anything into it yet, but Jeremy Renner posted something intriguing.

On his Instagram account, the actor hinted at West Coast Avengers.

West Coast Abvengers #62

I’m guessing it’s just something quick that happens in Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Still, I always liked the West Coast Avengers, so I’m hoping for more.

DC Studios is set to release Clayface, the third film in the DCU, in less than two weeks. The project marks a major shift for the shared superhero universe, as it centers on a villain and is firmly planted in the horror genre. If early word-of-mouth on Clayface is anything to go by, the decision to do a horror thriller has paid off.

However, Clayface was not intended to be DC Studios’ first horror film. In 2023, when James Gunn announced the DCU slate, he confirmed a Swamp Thing feature was in development. James Mangold, director of Logan and Ford v. Ferrari, had been attached to direct since the project was first confirmed. In the three years since the announcement, Swamp Thing has progressed slowly behind the scenes, amid rumors that it had been canceled.

At the world premiere of Clayface, DC Studios co-president Peter Safran told Deadline that Swamp Thing is still in development. In fact, he said they are “working on it” and “a script is being written as we speak. It’s something we’re excited about.” As for the delay, Safran said: “All these things take time, particularly when you have a filmmaker already involved; you’ve got to wait for their window as well.”

Swamp Thing was created by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, and debuted in House of Secrets #92 in July 1971. The character has had a few retcons over the years, most notably a famous storyline by Alan Moore, but he is traditionally a swamp monster who also protects and guards nature. He starred in his own solo film in 1982, directed by Wes Craven, with a sequel, Return of Swamp Thing, released in 1989. In 2019, a series titled Swamp Thing debuted on the DC Universe streaming app and lasted one season.

James Mangold is currently working on High Side, a motorcycle heist thriller starring Timothée Chalamet. High Side is the first title in the director’s five-year development deal with Paramount Pictures. With Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures now under the Skydance umbrella, Swamp Thing could theoretically become part of that development deal and a studio priority. Mangold was previously set to work on a Star Wars movie in development titled Dawn of the Jedi, but Disney and Lucasfilm have reportedly shelved the project indefinitely.

Swamp Thing is one of many DCU films in development. Next for the shared universe is Man of Tomorrow, the Superman follow-up, which is in post-production and is set to open on Jul. 9, 2027. DC Studios also has a Wonder Woman reboot and a DCU Batman film titled The Brave and the Bold as high priorities. Other titles in development include Teen Titans and a Bane and Deathstroke team-up movie called Savage Hunters. On television, The People vs. Gorilla Grodd will debut on HBO in 2027, and Lanterns Season 2 is reportedly in development.

DC Studios is set to release Clayface,

Messhof’s incredible competitive fencing game from 2014 just got a massive update some 12 years after its release, adding several highly requested features that make online play substantially better.

The Online Update brings a lot to this classic, and here’s a breakdown of everything that’s been added and why it’s a great time to jump back in.

Nidhogg Online and Training Mode Update

The new update for Nidhogg adds several features, including a major overhaul of its online multiplayer with the introduction of rollback netcode. If you’ve played any modern fighting game, you’ll know how important that is for responsive online play, especially when facing opponents from different regions.

The new matchmaking system prioritizes ping, but that’s not all. You can now join playable online lobbies, accept in-game invites without opening the Steam overlay, and view your friends list directly in the game. I’m surprised more modern games still don’t get this right. Matches also have to be accepted within a time limit, so you’re less likely to end up in a lobby with an AFK player.

Outside of the online improvements, the update finally adds a Training Mode with difficulty sliders and a selection of preset scenarios, including challenges that disable divekicks or throws. You can also select any map without having to go through Arcade Mode.

Screenshot by Prima Games

There’s also CPU BATTLE, which lets you watch two CPU-controlled fighters go at each other and enjoy the chaos. The update includes several other fixes and improvements, along with a new in-game news section. You can read the full announcement on Steam.

Nidhogg Is 65% Off on Steam

The update also comes with a huge 65% discount on Steam, available until October 20, 2026. Normally priced at $10, Nidhogg is down to just $3.50, and you really can’t go wrong with it, even if you only get a few hours of fun out of it.

If you haven’t played Nidhogg before, I implore you to play it with a friend and lose hours shouting at each other over the most ridiculous ways to get impaled by a fencing sword. It’s arguably one of the best multiplayer games ever made, and this update gives it even more longevity. I hope it also helps bring more players online and keeps the community active.

A “Dirty Dancing” sequel with Jennifer Grey might sound like another shiny legacy sequel to a Hollywood classic, but producer Nina Jacobson is working to develop a follow-up that honors the grit and raw feeling of the 1987 original.

“I remember when I first saw it, it seemed like very glossy entertainment. Now it feels like kind of an indie. They take a lot of risks and they touch a lot of topics that people don’t touch in movies anymore,” Jacobson said during a panel at IndieWire‘s Future of Filmmaking 2026 Summit presented by AT&T. “If you tried to just slip by an abortion subplot in a romantic movie now, I think you’d get a lot of notes on that.”

Jacobson took part in a conversation with IndieWire editor-in-chief Brent Lang at the event on Saturday in Los Angeles. Her film production company Color Force, where she is a producer and partner, is also behind FX’s “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” and Lionsgate’s upcoming “Hunger Games” prequel “Sunrise on the Reaping.” Earlier this year, Color Force also came aboard as producers for Lionsgate’s “Dirty Dancing” follow-up (though not “Dirty Dancing 2,” lest one forget “Havana Nights”), which will see Grey return as Frances “Baby” Houseman for a new ‘90s-set romance featuring another young cast.

“Grey has incredible insights into why she thinks [‘Dirty Dancing’] has lasted so much or what it is about her character that spoke so much to people and still does,” Jacobson said. “We were talking about this with adaptations: a movie can’t be just like the book, or a show can’t be just like the book that you are adapting. But it should make you feel the way the book did, and it should feel the way the book felt. [We are] trying to chase the feeling of that original movie. … Being able to tell a young love story that could take some of those risks but also inspire those feelings felt like an incredible chance for us.”

Along with Grey’s lead turn, “Dirty Dancing” is also defined by a co-lead turn by Patrick Swayze, as the concentrated dancer Johnny Castle that teaches Baby how to have the time of her life. Swayze died in 2009 of pancreatic cancer and Jacobson is intent on honoring the late star’s legacy with the sequel.

“That’s one of the things that you really have to focus on: how to let people mourn him in a movie,” Jacobson said. Then she added an assurance: “And don’t worry, we won’t be bringing him back with AI.”

Along with “Dirty Dancing,” Jacobson also shared details about the newly announced “Crazy Rich Asians” HBO series, which will draw from Kevin Kwan’s book series to further continue the story seen in the hit 2018 romantic comedy adaptation. While a second film was long speculated about, the producer explained why an ongoing TV series was the approach that was taken for the property’s return.

“We’ve struggled with trying to adapt it as a feature. It’s actually very hard to do a sequel to a romantic comedy because you resolve the central emotional conflict,” she said. “And, honestly, part of it was that none of the folks from the feature side who were there when we made the original were still there. … They didn’t necessarily have that appetite, whereas there was an enormous appetite over at HBO for the books. There’s so much in the books that you have to subtract because the books have this great big cast of characters and all these crazy melodramatic twists and turns. It’s very well-suited to television.”

“It was unimaginable if we tried to do this right after the movie came out: the idea that you could get all of these people who all blew up afterwards to do a TV show together,” Jacobson continued. “But now everybody misses everybody else. Television really is one of the best ways for us to do a reunion because it’s very hard to address all the things people liked about the movie in a sequel.”

Along with the conversation with Jacobson, IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit also included a keynote by directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, diving into the production of their sci-fi blockbuster “Project Hail Mary,” and a one-on-one with Bill Hader on what he learned making his upcoming feature debut “They Know.”

IndieWire Future of Filmmaking 2026 Summit is presented by AT&T Untold Stories, an impactful multi-year collaboration between AT&T and Tribeca Festival that awards $1.2 million dollars, mentorship, and comprehensive support to the next generation of filmmakers looking to bring their films to the big screen. One of the stranger acquisitions Netflix has made in a while, and we mean that as a compliment. Romain Gavras (Athena) directs Chris Evans as Mike Tyler, a washed-up action star attending a star-studded charity gala who ends up kidnapped by a radical cult led by Anya Taylor-Joy’s Joan. The group believes that unless three human sacrifices are thrown into a volcano within three days, the end of the world is coming. Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek Pinault, John Malkovich and Charli xcx round out one of the wildest ensembles of the year. It divided critics badly when it premiered at TIFF last year, but Gavras describes it as a roller coaster you have to just strap into, and we’d agree.

The Diplomat (Season 4) Netflix Original

Type: TV Series
Genre: Drama, Political Thriller

Kate Wyler is back, and so is the chaos.

Picking up directly after that season 3 cliffhanger, the fourth season sees Keri Russell’s ambassador dealing with the fallout of President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and Vice President Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) secretly orchestrating the theft of a Russian nuclear weapon, a plot that now has the US hurtling toward war. Netflix’s official pitch for the season is that “two marriages threaten to eat each other alive,” with Kate forming an uneasy alliance with Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford) to stop the Grace-Hal alliance before it blows up everything. All eight episodes dropped on Thursday, so it’s only had a couple of days to register on this week’s chart, but it’s already at #11 and should climb comfortably into the top 10 by next week.

Love Is Blind (Season 11 – Boston) Netflix Original

Type: TV Series
Genre: Reality, Dating

The pods have relocated to New England. Season 11 brings thirty Boston singles into the dating experiment with Nick and Vanessa Lachey back as hosts, and after season 9 famously ended with zero weddings, the pressure is on for this batch to actually make it down the aisle. Netflix dropped the first five episodes on Wednesday, with new batches arriving every Wednesday through to the finale, so this is one to keep coming back to over the next few weeks. It’s landed at #8 on the TV chart in its first few days.

HALLOWEEN HIGHLIGHTS

Cocaine Bear (2023)

Type: Movie
Genre: Comedy, Horror, Thriller | Runtime: 1h 35m

If your idea of Halloween viewing leans more toward gleeful gore than slow-burn dread, Elizabeth Banks’ horror-comedy is exactly what it says on the tin. Very loosely inspired by a bizarre true story from 1985, the film follows a 500-pound black bear that ingests a duffel bag’s worth of cocaine dropped from a smuggler’s plane and proceeds to rampage through a Georgia forest, with a motley crew of park rangers, drug dealers, teenagers and a worried mother (Keri Russell, pulling double duty on Netflix this week) in its path. It also features one of Ray Liotta’s final performances. It’s gory, it’s ridiculous, and it’s already cracked the top 10 at #10.

The Trap (Limited Series) Netflix Original

Type: TV Series
Genre: Psychological Thriller, Mystery

For something to binge with the lights off that doesn’t involve a monster, this six-part German psychological thriller from the team behind the International Emmy-winning Dear Child is a great shout. Adapted from Melanie Raabe’s bestselling novel, it stars Friederike Becht as Lisa Konrad, a famous author who hasn’t left her house in nearly a decade since witnessing the unsolved murder of her sister. When she believes she recognizes the killer on television, she writes a novel based on the crime and invites the journalist she suspects (Hans Löw) into her home for an interview, using herself as bait.

Now, let’s take a look at what people have actually been watching on Netflix US over the past seven days!

Over on the Movies list, Ben Affleck’s political kidnapping thriller Animals, which he also directed and co-wrote, has done exactly what you’d expect a Ben Affleck Netflix movie to do in 2026 and gone straight to #1 with 80 points. The reviews have been rough, but that hasn’t stopped it from topping the charts in the US and well beyond. Doing Life continues to impress, holding steady at #2 for a second week (68 points), while last week’s champion, The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part, has slipped down to #5 (40 points).

The Ice Age marathon shows no signs of slowing down either. In fact, the original 2002 film has climbed from #5 to #3 (45 points) and Collision Course follows directly behind at #4 (43 points), with Dawn of the Dinosaurs and The Meltdown still hanging around at #11 and #12. Continental Drift is the only entry to have dropped off the list entirely.

On the TV Series charts, the Josh Hartnett sea creature series Below has made the single biggest leap we’ve seen in a while. The six-part Newfoundland-set limited series only managed #13 (10 points) in its first few days last week, but a full week of word of mouth has sent it soaring to #1 with a dominant 80 points. That’s enough to knock the Florence Pugh-led Steinbeck adaptation East of Eden off the top spot, although #2 with 55 points is still a very healthy second week.

It’s been a week of big swings further down the chart, too. Last week’s #2, A Different World, has crashed to #14, Wonka’s The Golden Ticket has fallen from #4 to #17, and The Great British Baking Show has slid from #3 to #7 (28 points). Taking their place is a wave of new blood: Is It Cake? Halloween debuted at #3 (38 points), the latest quick-turnaround Netflix doc Instadocs: AI Gone Wild, which digs into this summer’s Hugging Face hack, took #4 (34 points), and the four-part Mike Tyson docuseries TYSON arrived at #6 (29 points).

After putting in his tenure in the X-Men franchise, James McAvoy had his sights set on another iconic character originated by Patrick Stewart.

The Golden Globe nominee recently revealed that he pitched a Star Trek series about “young Picard” that was titled Mutiny On the Stargazer, noting that he nearly “made” the limited series.

“That was a whole idea I had I pitched to the Star Trek people as well, and we nearly did it,” said McAvoy on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I’ve got a whole story about an early Picard. All I really want to do in my career is play young versions of Patrick [Stewart].”

The interview came after McAvoy took over the role of Professor Charles Xavier from Stewart in the X-Men prequel movies First Class (2011), Days of Future Past (2014), Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019). Stewart originated the live-action role in X-Men (2000), reprising him in the sequels X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), The Wolverine (2013), Logan (2017) and Days of Future Past, and again in the upcoming MCU title Avengers: Doomsday, premiering Dec. 18 in theaters.

McAvoy continued, “I had this whole story of a young Picard that I love. I pitched, it was like a one-off standalone season … when he took over as captain of the Stargazer and what actually happened, and the secret he’s been holding his entire career. I just pitched it to them, talking to them, and they were into it, but we had logistical issues that meant we couldn’t do it. But I love that story that I just got to bed and think about it at night.”

Running for seven seasons in syndication from 1987 to 1994, Stewart starred in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, commanding officer on the USS Enterprise-D. He reprised the role in Star Trek: Picard, running for three seasons from 2020 to ’23.

Picard’s first command was explored in author Michael Jan Friedman’s six-part Star Trek: Stargazer book series, which was published between 2002 and 2004.

Has Zach Bryan always sounded this much like Hozier? The question’s unavoidable listening to “Lies,” Bryan’s weepy new piano-and-strings duet with Lana Del Rey. Fresh off an EP titled Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs, the song lines up a straight shot at “timeless,” then misfires into “dated.” I’m transported alright—far, far away from the Grand Ole Opry. No, I’m under the fluorescent LEDs of an H&M dressing room circa 2013, where “Take Me to Church” is playing back to back with “Same Love” and Rihanna’s “Stay.” Even worse: Most of Bryan’s lyrics are either borrowed wholesale (“Tell me your lies, baby, sweet little lies,” goes the hook) or nigh-inscrutable (“Shameless when it comes to your sex and your guilt”…?)

Traditionally, Lana’s verse would be our chance to hear the woman’s perspective in all this. Yet her inclusion feels totally impromptu, like she and Bryan just got called up for their turn at karaoke and didn’t have a chance to work out the harmonies. To her credit, Del Rey’s airy delivery elides the more tortured scansion in lines like, “Tell me everything that you ever said was just another excuse for what you meant instead.” But compare “Lies” and “Henry, come on,” the gloriously maudlin ballad that presaged her perpetually waylaid country album, Stove: That song gleamed like polished silver, pocked with the intimate details and recurring fights that characterize a threadbare love affair. The duet partners in “Lies” are singing right past each other. It’s not heartbreaking, just a little sad.

James McAvoy has starred in films including “Speak No Evil,” “Atonement” and “X-Men: First Class,” but he recently revealed the “only” film he still consistently receives residuals from is M. Night Shyamalan’s 2016 horror “Split.”

“You get the odd check for, you know, a couple 100 quid here or sometimes you get checks for, like, 25 cents and you’re like, ‘It literally costs more to post this than it did for me to cash it,’” McAvoy said during a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “But the only one that really consistently pays me is ‘Split.’”

“I think it was made for like $6 million or something like that? And let’s say they spent 30 advertising it. In our first weekend, we made 40, so we were in profit,” McAvoy continued. “Our first residual check came at the end of the first weekend. It was bonkers.”

In “Split,” three girls are kidnapped by a man with a diagnosed 23 distinct personalities (McAvoy). “They must try to escape before the apparent emergence of a frightful new 24th,” per the film’s official description. Anya Taylor-Joy, Haley Lu Richardson and Jessica Sula starred alongside McAvoy. The film, which cost just $6 million to make, went on to gross $138.29 million domestically and $140.16 million internationally for a $278.45 million worldwide total.

McAvoy also spoke about Shyamalan and his experience working with the director.

“I very consciously took from many of the directors that I worked with, and subconsciously as well, but the thing I took away from him is his preparedness,” McAvoy said. “He made that film, and [sequel] ‘Glass,’ on incredibly modest budgets, and very focused on how he would maximize his day and maximize his shots and maximize what he got out of the story by just being incredibly well-prepared and being able to share that and communicate that with the crew.”

British Columbians can cast ballots in two elections Saturday, Oct. 17, but they’ll want to make sure they’re in the right lineup.

Local election day coincides with the second day of provincial advance voting, meaning eligible voters can cast both ballots but generally at separate locations.

“This is a very rare circumstance and we completely understand that this can be a bit confusing for voters,” Elections BC spokesperson Colleen Hildebrandt told Global News Morning on Saturday.

She said Elections BC has not seen this overlap since becoming an independent office in 1995.

Voting locations for local elections are available on local government websites. Provincial voters can check their Where to Vote cards or enter their address in the lookup tool at elections.bc.ca.

A few buildings are hosting both elections, Hildebrandt said, with separate voting areas marked by signs.

“Our election officials on site are happy to help any voter,” she said.

Provincial advance voting continues through Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time, ahead of election day on Saturday, Oct. 24. Voters can use any advance voting location, but should check its schedule because not every site opens each day.

More than a million people voted in advance in the last provincial election, Hildebrandt said. While it is too early to know whether this election will follow that trend, she said advance voting is a convenient option.

“So anyone that’s out and about on the weekends or has a little bit of spare time, they can pop by any voting location,” she said. “It takes about 10 minutes.”

A Where to Vote card is not required, and eligible provincial voters can register when they arrive. They will need identification.

Hildebrandt said voters can bring two pieces of identification, both showing their name, with at least one also showing their current home address.

Anyone with questions can contact Elections BC’s call centre at 1-800-661-8683.

“We recognize that this is a very unique situation and that people need to know where to go for each election,” Hildebrandt said. “It’s very exciting and it’s very important that people get out and vote.”

A csirkeút kihívásai: Mit rejt a siker?

A csirke átkelésekor a legfontosabb a megfelelő időzítés.

A fenti táblázat áttekintést nyújt a különböző járművek okozta kihívásokról, illetve ajánl tippeket a sikeres átkeléshez.

Ezek a bónuszok segíthetnek a csirkének továbbjutni a nehezebb szinteken is.

  • Bónuszpontok gyűjthetők a játék során.
  • Ranglisták segítenek a játékosok összehasonlításában.
  • A ranglista élén a legtöbb pontot gyűjtő játékosok találhatók.

A ranglisták rendszeres frissítése biztosítja, hogy a verseny mindig izgalmas maradjon, és a játékosok folyamatosan motiváltak legyenek a fejlődésre. A legjobb játékosoknak lehetősége nyílik a hírnévre és a virtuális elismerésre.

A játék grafikai és hangvilága

A játék letisztult, színes grafikai megjelenéssel rendelkezik, ami vonzóvá teszi a játékosok számára. A csirke aranyos és bájos megjelenése, valamint a szórakoztató animációk tovább fokozzák a játékélményt. A háttérváltozatok sokfélesége, a különböző időjárási viszonyok és a nap-éjszaka váltás még életszerűbbé teszik a játék világát. A hanghatások szintén fontos szerepet játszanak a játékélményben.

  1. A játék elindítása egyszerű és gyors.
  2. A kezelés intuitív és könnyen elsajátítható.
  3. A beállítások testreszabhatók.

A mai digitális szórakozás világában rengeteg lehetőség áll a játékosok rendelkezésére, legyen szó komplex stratégiai játékokról, izgalmas akciójátékokról vagy éppen egyszerű, ámde addiktív arcade élményekről.

A csirke átkelésének játéka a látszólagos egyszerűsége ellenére számos kihívást tartogat.

A gyakorlás is kulcsfontosságú. Minél többet játszol, annál jobban ismered a játék mechanikáját, és annál könnyebben felismered a biztonságos átkelési lehetőségeket.

Szint
Nehézségi Fok
1-5 Könnyű
6-10 Közepes
11-15 Nehéz
16+ Extrém

A fenti táblázat egy áttekintést nyújt a játék nehézségi szintjeiről.

A játék hanghatásai szintén hozzájárulnak a játékélményhez.

A Játék Testreszabási Lehetőségei

  • Időlassító: lassítja a forgalmat.

  1. Ossz meg visszajelzést a fejlesztőkkel.
  2. Csatlakozz a játék fórumához.
  3. Kövess a közösségi média csatornákon.
  4. Javasold a fejlesztőknek az új funkciókat.
  5. Segíts a játék tesztelésében.

A csirke átkelésének játéka számos előnnyel jár.

Valószínű, hogy a játék a virtuális valóság (VR) technológiájával is kompatibilissá válhat a jövőben, ami teljesen új dimenziót nyithat a játékélmény szempontjából. A fejlesztők nyitottak a játékosok ötleteire és javaslataira, ami biztosítja, hogy a játék a közösség igényeinek megfelelően fejlődjön.

Quentin Tarantion has long said he’ll be retiring after his 10th feature film, but fans shouldn’t worry yet. While the “Pulp Fiction” director confirmed he’d finished penning the script to his final project, he won’t be getting much further with it until his newly opened play, “The Popinjay Cavalier,” closes.

Tarantino made the statement on a recent episode of “The Graham Norton Show,” where he joined the host alongside fellow guests Ellen DeGeneres, Colin Farrell and Gemma Chan. It was his first appearance on the show in more than a decade.

“I’ve written a script that I really like, but I want to do the play and see who I am; then I’ll then go back and spend time with my family and live a little and then see what I want to do,” Tarantino said.

He also gave audiences more insight into “The Popinjay Cavalier,” which he said started as a screenplay before the director realized “it really worked as a play.” “I think it will be thrilling,” he said.

Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, “The Popinjay Cavalier” will open at London’s Phoenix Theatre next March, following previews in late Feb. The play, described as a “swashbuckling comedy,” is set to run for three months, closing on June 13. “I’m keen with anticipation to give the West End a great night out,” Tarantino said in a statement when the show was announced.

Tarantino’s most recent release remains “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which came out in 2019 and starred Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Margaret Qualley and more. Pitt won the Oscar for best supporting actor that year, as did Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh for best production design. Tarantino was also nominated for best picture and best director, while DiCaprio was nominated for best actor.

Gene Schwam, the veteran Hollywood publicist who worked with the likes of Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, Julie Andrews, Barbara Eden and Blake Edwards, has died. He was 96.

Schwam died Friday in Los Angeles following a brief illness.

In 1954, he was working with fellow publicist Stanley Cowan making $35 per week, when he decided to leave the company and found his own agency. Alongside Adeline Hanson, they opened Hanson & Schwam Public Relations in 1955.

The firm began by representing restaurants and musicians, though their roster quickly expanded into the wider entertainment industry. Nancy Wilson and Lou Rawls were among those represented by the agency, which additionally handled publicity for the Cocoanut Grove nightclub.

Schwam also worked with Lenny Bruce, Cyd Charisse and Gene Barry. His work with Andrews and Eden were central to his career as a publicist, and he formed a close friendship with Edwards; the publicist character in his 1981 film S.O.B. was inspired by Schwam.

He is also the creator of Humanity 101, an initiative of Arizona State University’s Project Humanities that promotes compassion, empathy, forgiveness, integrity, kindness, respect and self-reflection.

The veteran publicist reflected on his career in conversation with The Hollywood Reporter‘s Chris Gardner in April 2021, noting, “There’s a mistake people make when they think it’s about who you know in Hollywood, but it isn’t about that — it’s about who knows you.”

He also shared some secrets to success: “Begin with the end of the game and work your way backward,” Schwam said. “Figure out what it is that we want to do, such as win an Oscar, then we figure out how to get there.”

Schwam added, “I’ve always felt that success of the personal service business is referrals. It’s not getting on the phone or going online. It’s always been someone saying, ‘Hey, Gene, I have a friend who is writing a book, would you be interested in working with them?’”

He is survived by his wife, Myrna Schwam; his daughter, Stephanie Schwam Adams; his stepchildren, Adam London, Greg London and Linda London; and four grandchildren.

Comedian Carrot Top broke his silence nearly a month after attempting to take his own life.

The comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson, took to Instagram on Saturday to thank fans for their support following his suicide attempt and subsequent hospitalization.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and well wishes I’ve received over the past couple of weeks. Every message, text, and kind thought has meant more to me than you know,” he wrote. “While I haven’t been able to respond to everyone individually, please know that I’ve felt your love and appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for being there for me during this time. It truly means the world to me!”

The caption ended with a note that his comedy show at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas would return on Monday, Oct. 19. He has been performing there since 2005. In fact, Thompson has one of the longest-running residencies in Las Vegas.

Fans and famous faces flooded the comments section. Comedian Jay Mohr wrote, “LOVE LOVE LOVE,” while actress Hannah Einbinder simply wrote, “Love you Scott.”

On Sept. 18, TMZ reported that 61-year-old Thompson had been rushed to the hospital in Las Vegas, resulting in the cancellation of his evening performance at the Luxor hotel. The outlet reported that Thompson had attempted suicide that day. While speaking with TheWrap, Thompson’s representative did not give a reason for the comedian’s hospitalization.

“Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” his representative, Jami Schlicher, told TheWrap later that evening. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”

Thompson, known for his over-the-top prop comedy, vibrant red hair and long-running presence in Las Vegas, got his big break in 1991, when he appeared on the comedy showcase series “Comic Strip Live” and the talent competition show “Star Search.”

He went on to make numerous appearances in TV shows and specials, including “Scrubs,” “Larry the Cable Guy’s Christmas Spectacular,” “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” “Reno 911!” and “George Lopez.”

Paul Bettany opened up in a recent interview with The Times about the public’s misconception of his relationship with Johnny Depp after text messages between the two actors were used in court during Depp’s libel lawsuit against The Sun.

“I hadn’t spoken to Johnny in years when that happened and I haven’t spoken to him since. I was being painted as this close friend of a guy I hadn’t spoken to in years and, honestly, amid all the shit two celebrities threw at each other, that bit was the most odd,” Paul told the publication.

“So I decided to say nothing because, I think, people know me,” he continued. “I’ve been married 23 years and, for what I do, I live an incredibly quiet life. Everybody kind of thought this is probably a nothing burger – and left it alone.”

In 2013, a controversial text exchange between Depp and Bettany became public when it was read during a Feb. 2020 trial hearing. “Let’s burn Amber!!!” wrote Depp, to which Bettany responded: “Having thought it through I don’t think we should burn Amber – she’s delightful company and easy on the eye, plus I’m not sure she’s a witch. We could of course try the English course of action in these predicaments – we do a drowning test. Thoughts?” Depp responded that they should “drown her before we burn her!!! I will fuck her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

The two actors worked together on multiple films, including 2010’s “The Tourist,” 2014’s “Transcendence” and 2015’s “Mortdecai.”

Depp initially sued News Group Newspapers (NGN) (which publishes The Sun) for libel after an article was published by the publication titled “Gone Potty – How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife beater Johnny Depp in the new ‘Fantastic Beasts’ film?” Depp alleged that the article “caused serious harm to (his) personal and professional reputation” and also caused him “significant distress and embarrassment.” In 2020, Judge Andrew Nicol ruled against Depp.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day just released a much better version of the ending, but only select fans will be able to watch it on streaming at home. Over the summer, Sony Pictures released seven versions of Brand New Day in theaters, but the best one of all was hard to come by. The web-slinging epic wasn’t available in IMAX for most territories due to The Odyssey‘s 3-week exclusivity. The expanded image version in IMAX’s signature 1.90:1 aspect ratio was initially only available in select territories and received a belated domestic rollout in August.

Months later, Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s record-breaking theatrical run has come and gone, and was just released for home digital viewing on October 6. For most audiences, their PVOD streaming purchase will come with the usual 2.39:1 aspect ratio used in most theaters (the scope version), but a second version was also released with the 1.90:1 ratio used on IMAX and other premium screens (the flat version).

The alternate version includes an extra 26% of image across the top and bottom of the screens, creating a far superior viewing experience, especially for the epic climax of Brand New Day. This IMAX-esque version is delivered exclusively on Sony Pictures Core, which is only available on select Sony BRAVIA TVs, PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, and compatible Xperia smartphones.

Sony Pictures

There’s no denying that the larger picture enhances the experience of the massive clash between Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and The Hand’s ninjas at the Damage Control facility, as he finally embraces his new, enhanced superpowers. The grand scale and verticality of the fight simply feel bigger with that extra 26% of image, allowing audiences to better immerse themselves in Spidey’s world.

Once Spider-Man had finished throwing down with The Hand, his attention turned to Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey to finally resolve Brand New Day‘s conflict. The IMAX iteration allows audiences to catch all of the details that went into crafting these moments and the destruction caused by a grief-stricken Jean Grey.

Sony Pictures

Brand New Day won’t be the last time that fans see the telekinetic mutant, as Jean Grey is confirmed to star in Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot (releasing May 5, 2028), and Sink will reportedly be back before then in Avengers: Secret Wars. Moviegoers will be keeping their fingers crossed that those movies receive full IMAX releases so that Jean’s cinematic superpowers can get the proper treatment.

Sony Pictures

Even outwith Brand New Day‘s action-packed ending, scenes like Peter Parker in a crowd of Spider-Man fans looking up at The Punisher (in a Spidey mask) simply hit different with the rare expanded edition. They allow audiences to better immerse themselves in the world around Peter in a way that the standard can’t.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland Peter Parker ending in IMAX.
Sony Pictures

Brand New Day won’t be Marvel Studios’ last movie of the year to face a PLF dilemma, as Avengers: Doomsday will also miss out on IMAX screens when it releases on December 18, as it clashes with Dune: Part 3‘s exclusive window. There is always the chance that Marvel Studios re-releases Doomsday in IMAX in 2027, or at least releases an expanded picture version for streaming home viewing.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Limited IMAX Release Was Its Biggest Tragedy

Of course, IMAX wasn’t the only way that Spider-Man: Brand New Day moviegoers could experience an expanded version of the movie. Sony Pictures shot additional footage for ScreenX to project onto the sides of theaters for the first time ever, although the 270-degree format remains heavily controversial, unlike IMAX, which most fans seem to agree only enhances the moviegoing experience.

It’s encouraging that Brand New Day‘s scope version isn’t doomed to become lost media, as it will remain available for the lucky few watching on Sony Pictures Core. However, it remains a true tragedy that most never got the chance to see Brand New Day in IMAX due to its clash with The Odyssey, as it was widely praised for being bigger, better, and more immersive, especially in web-slinging moments.

But there may still be hope for the future; according to Deadline, Sony is cooking up a Brand New Day re-release with extra footage, including the deleted scene featuring Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple from Netflix’s Daredevil. Fans can only hope that Sony can find room in 2026’s stacked IMAX release slate for Brand New Day‘s re-release, giving more audiences the chance to experience it in all its glory.

The DCU’s lineup of leading superheroes just hit a dozen, across a variety of past and future projects, thanks to a surprising but welcome casting choice. James Gunn is busy filling out his new DCU with heroes and villains galore. In fact, the iconic Batman villain Clayface (Tom Rhys Harries) is getting his very first solo movie with the upcoming Clayface. That said, there are a lot of heroes who have already taken center stage or will in the future, and not all of them are A-listers.

DC Studios co-head Peter Safran revealed in an interview with IGN that Josh Hutcherson has been cast as the leading hero of the studio’s animated Mister Miracle series. The actor will voice leading character Scott Free, aka Mister Miracle, alongside his warrior wife, Big Barda (Mackenzie Davis).

Safran also praised showrunner Tom King’s adaptation of his own acclaimed comic as “just dynamite.” It seemed like Safran added in the cast news casually, despite it not yet having been announced by him or the studios, or Gunn:

“‘Mister Miracle,’ I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing ‘Lanterns,’ and he adapted his book Mr. Miracle fully on his own, wrote all eight episodes, and I think it’s just dynamite. Josh Hutcherson as Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda.”

Universal Pictures

Following the newfound Skydance, which is keeping DC Studios and the new DCU intact, even more news came out about Mister Miracle. Safran separately told Collider that Mister Miracle is targeting 2028, and DC Studios has already “seen animatics of the whole season.”

Episodes are expected to run roughly 30 minutes each. The exec also told the outlet that the show is part of the DCU and said there’s “no reason why it couldn’t be an ongoing season series.”

This is notable, as prior to that statement, it had been assumed since its announcement that this would be a limited series.

Mister Miracle in DC Comics.
DC Comics

What also makes this casting more notable than your typical animated DC show is that DCU actors can voice a character and play them in live action.

Just look at Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), who debuted in the animated Creature Commandos before making the leap to Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, and soon-to-be Man of Tomorrow. So, the former Hunger Games star could be a new face of DC, if that’s part of Gunn’s master plans.

Hutcherson joins a growing list of actors taking on leading roles in a wide variety of DCU projects, and some of those shows and movies have more than one lead.

Lead Actors Across All DCU Projects

Xolo Maridueña – Blue Beetle Movie and Animated Series

Xolo Maridueña and Blue Beetle.
DC Studios

Before Gunn’s DCU existed, Maridueña led 2023’s Blue Beetle as Jaime Reyes, the first time this character had been brought to life on the big screen.

Thanks to his planned role in the new universe, including a spot in next summer’s Man of Tomorrow, that movie is now retroactively canon (or at least parts of it). A Blue Beetle animated series is also in the works, and he will be the lead again in that series.

John Cena – Peacemaker

John Cena as Peacemaker.
DC Studios

More anti-hero than superhero, Cena’s Christopher Smith was just one piece of Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and really turned out to be a villain in that.

Two seasons of Peacemaker have since given the character room to grow in his own spotlight. Season 2 left him trapped in Salvation, with no current plans for the future, and while Season 3 looks unlikely, it could still happen down the line.

Indira Varma – Creature Commandos

Indira Varma and The Bride.
DC Studios

Monsters, freaks, and robots need a leader too. Varma headlined the animated Creature Commandos as The Bride (yes, the Bride of Frankenstein).

She ended Season 1 in charge of Task Force M and will lead a refreshed roster of creatures in Season 2, coming to HBO Max in 2027.

David Corenswet – Superman / Man of Tomorrow

David Corenswet as Superman.
DC Studios

Corenswet’s Superman is the face of the entire DCU, a role that goes beyond even headlining his own movies. Superman launched the franchise back onto the big screen and became 2025’s highest-grossing superhero film, beating out three MCU movies, more importantly.

The leading man has since appeared in Supergirl, and will be back to the superstar in Man of Tomorrow.

Milly Alcock – Supergirl

Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
DC Studios

Sadly, Supergirl bombed in theaters this summer, earning just $126 million worldwide against a reported budget of up to $186 million. Because of that, Alcock’s Kara Zor-El, who cameoed at the very end of Superman, will probably stick to team-ups moving forward.

Aaron Pierre – Lanterns

Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.
DC Studios

Pierre was one of two leads on HBO’s Lanterns, but his John Stewart is the one who will be alive and well for the rest of the DCU. The finale saw him embrace his fear to become Earth’s new Green Lantern (kind of), and he’ll appear next in Man of Tomorrow.

Hopefully, he’ll also get to headline a second season of Lanterns, though right now, nothing is officially greenlit.

Kyle Chandler – Lanterns

Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.

Fans instantly fell for Chandler as the DCU’s Hal Jordan, even though Lanterns wasn’t a typical Green Lantern story.

The HBO series swapped space-cop action for a grounded murder mystery that left Hal dead, but fans sure would be thrilled to see the character, or his Halogram, in a future project.

Tom Rhys-Harries – Clayface

Tom Rhys-Harries as Matt Hagen.

On paper, Harries’ Matt Hagen is a Batman villain, plain and simple, but he’s also been described as an anti-hero.

In Clayface, the rising Hollywood star turns to an experimental cure after being disfigured, only to spiral into a quest for revenge. Audiences will discover the real truth when the R-rated body horror flick hits theaters on October 23.

Skyler Gisondo – The People Vs Gorilla Grodd

Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.

Jimmy Olsen isn’t a superhero, but he’s a good journalist, and he helped save Metropolis in Superman.

Now, Gisondo’s Jimmy will get more of the attention in The People v. Gorilla Grodd, a mockumentary series currently in production for HBO Max from the team behind Netflix’s American Vandal.

Jimmy Tatro – The People Vs Gorilla Grodd

Jimmy Tatro and Gorilla Grodd.
DC Studios

A classic Flash villain, Gorilla Grodd appears to have a nuanced past in the DCU, even getting a show centered around him in college at Metropolis University. Jimmy Tatro plays the telepathic ape, convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. It’s time for everyone to learn his story.

Nicholas Hoult – Man of Tomorrow

Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
DC Studios

Hoult’s Lex Luthor was a snotty, cold-blooded killer in Superman, so don’t mistake him for much of a superhero. Still, he’ll be teaming up with the Supes in Man of Tomorrow to take on an even greater threat: Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).

A removed Xbox Store listing has surfaced with details of an unannounced Shrek 2 remaster, including 4K resolution and co-op for up to four players. The listing described solo play or sessions with up to three friends, either locally or online; it did not amount to a formal announcement.

The details were reported by GameSpot and Pure Xbox, both of which described an Xbox page that appeared before an official reveal and was later taken down. The available information gives players a concrete feature list, but leaves the release timing and price unknown.

A 2004 game gets a modern presentation pass

Shrek 2: The Game originally arrived in 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube. Activision published the original, while Aspyr Media is named as the company bringing the remaster to market; GameSpot also notes Aspyr’s work on recent The Lord of the Rings re-releases.

The listing’s headline upgrades are better textures, an enhanced user interface and 4K resolution. That is a straightforward visual and presentation refresh rather than a disclosed overhaul of the game’s core design. Players have seen how much a refreshed presentation can change the feel of an older release, as with the Dying Light visual update.

Co-op, familiar characters and two new modes

The multiplayer details may be the most immediately useful part for returning players: the game can be played solo or with up to three friends, with both local and online co-op listed. Shrek, Fiona and Donkey are among the playable characters, according to the Xbox listing as described by GameSpot.

The remaster is also set to add a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode. Together with the visual updates, those additions give the rerelease a few extras beyond simply bringing the 2004 game to current hardware. Co-op remains a notable part of the pitch, a feature that can strongly shape expectations for a multiplayer game, as seen in discussions around Nightreign’s co-op features.

Platforms and release details are still unclear

The Xbox page did not give a release date or price, and its removal leaves the listing as the source of the details rather than a formal launch announcement. GameSpot says PlayStation availability is expected, but the available information does not confirm a complete platform list.

Separately, the official Shrek account posted a compilation of footage from games in the franchise, including the original Shrek 2. GameSpot reports that viewers have linked the post to the remaster, though no connection has been confirmed. Until an official announcement fills in the gaps, the key missing details are still the launch date, price and supported platforms.

I think I was in 5th grade when The Mummy came out. And I remember distinctly going to see it, my first “horror” movie in theaters. I was nervous, but it seemed so cool to me in the trailers.

What I got was an adventure movie with some sexy ladies, a suave hero, and enough horror to intrigue me without going over the top.

Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy wasn’t just a hit with me, but it became a hit at the box office with a massive cult following that demanded more of Rick, Evie, and the gang. We’re even getting another entry next year.

Today, I want to go over a line in the movie that I love, which sort of gets the ethos of the whole series and certainly sums up the main character.

Let’s dive in.

– YouTubewww.youtube.com

The Scene in Question

You’ve surely seen the movie, so you know that after surviving the initial chaotic encounter at the ancient city of Hamunaptra and landing in a Cairo prison, Rick O’Connell finds himself back in the heat of the action after he’s sprung from prison by Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) and her brother Jonathan (John Hannah).

They want him to lead them back to the City of the Dead.

The group settles into a riverboat on the Nile where they sit across from the people who are trying to beat them there.

It’s a friendly, tense scene of two factions all out for the same treasures, but stuck on the same route now.

That’s where firebrand Jonathan, who has a knack for getting into financial trouble, tries to get Rick into a game of poker with his comrades.

Rick looks at him, totally unfazed, and exudes effortless confidence:

“I only gamble with my life, never my money.”

What The Quote Means

Rick is a great character, and Brendan Fraser’s portrayal is why these movies have been so successful. We love a guy with swagger and a sense of humor.

The line is thrilling; we sort of know what’s coming… ancient curses, mummies, and fear, but this is a guy who maybe isn’t afraid of all that.

He’s part of this mission for the cahd, but that may also change.

Rick’s worldview is that material wealth is secondary to the sheer thrill. And as an audience. we’re watching this movie to see those thrills.

Again, a lot of this stuff relies on the actor to convey it, and thank God we got Fraser. He excelled at balancing rugged heroics with reluctant anti-hero charm.

These little quips become the backbone of the series and eventually the romantic banter between him and Evie.

And in this moment, we know that to Rick O’Connell, standing down an ancient priest with supernatural powers is just another day, but losing a stack of cash on a card game is an actual tragedy.

That kind of sensational ideology is what makes these movies so fun.

Summing It All Up

Great movie quotes are not just fun trailer moments; they have to mean something to the character. This is a fun way to get out a worldview of the hero and also make the audience lean in to a set piece that is right around the corner.

It’s a classic beat of screenwriting efficiency, and one of the many reasons The Mummy has stuck in our collective consciousness for so long.

I can’t wait for the next movie in the series!

The must-have jacket for fall 2026 is actually an old favorite. We’re not talking about the trench coat or the barn jacket, but rather a piece found in our grandmothers’ closets (and one that Blair Waldorf adored): the tweed jacket.

Driven by the popularity of quiet luxury in recent years and granny style taking off, this preppy garment has once again carved out a place in our wardrobes. But instead of styling them in the prim-and-proper skirt sets we’re used to seeing, we’ll be wearing our tweed in a very different way this season. The trick is to break up the jacket-and-skirt combo and pair each with more casual pieces that take the edge off its classic finish.

Jeans are one of the best allies for tweed jackets this fall, but also consider cargos and balloon pants in baggy silhouettes. They’ll provide the necessary contrast to freshen up a piece that, at first glance, might seem too traditional to pull off. The idea here is simple: Keep the elegance of the tweed, but steer clear of anything resembling a uniform.

Here are a few modern ways to style these granny jackets this fall…

Carrot Top returned to Instagram Saturday with a message for his fans, marking the comedian’s first comments after a Sept. 18 suicide attempt and hospitalization.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and well wishes I’ve received over the past couple of weeks. Every message, text, and kind thought has meant more to me than you know,” posted the 61-year-old comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson. “While I haven’t been able to respond to everyone individually, please know that I’ve felt your love and appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for being there for me during this time. It truly means the world to me!”

He closed the caption with an orange heart, and by some news that he will return to the stage at Luxor Hotel & Casino on Oct. 19 for the 8 p.m. show. He has a residency at the MGM property. Notable names flooded the comments section with words of support, including stand-up superstar Jay Mohr who wrote “LOVE LOVE LOVE.” Emmy winner Hannah Einbinder wrote, “Love you Scott,” while songwriter Sarah Hudson also wrote, “Love you.”

The post comes after two public appearances alongside his mother at a local Las Vegas church, on both Oct. 4 and Oct. 11. Paparazzi images surfaced from the outings but he had not yet made any statements regarding his health or what happened amid the mental health crisis beyond what his publicist had shared with media outlets including TMZ.

“Mr. Thompson is currently recovering, surrounded by his family and those closest to him. His focus is on his health and recovery, and we ask that his privacy be respected at this time,” his rep told TMZ as part of a published report by the outlet that included allegations of extortion over sexually explicit content featuring Carrot Top. Per TMZ, a rep for Carrot Top alleged that a man named Brian Evans had threatened to file a “sexually explicit recording on a USB drive depicting the comedian into a court’s legal docket…unless he was paid $500,000 as a settlement.”

The television networks introduce dozens of new TV shows each season, hoping each will be a big hit in the ratings. Unfortunately, most are cancelled after one season. How are the new 2025-26 TV series doing? Which have the best ratings and which have the worst? How many will survive to see a second season? Stay tuned.

Here are the final season average ratings of the new 2025-26 network TV shows — through the end of week 52 (Sunday, September 20, 2026).

New ABC TV series this season (so far): 9-1-1: Nashville, Betrayal: Secrets & Lies, Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, Dirty Talk: When Daytime Talk Shows Ruled TV, The Greatest Average American, RJ Decker, and Scrubs.

New CBS TV series this season (so far): America’s Culinary Cup, Boston Blue, CIA, DMV, Harlan Coben’s Final Twist, Marshals, The Road, and Sheriff Country.

New The CW TV series this season (so far): Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, Nation’s Dumbest, and TV We Love.

New FOX TV series that have premiered (so far): 99 to Beat, Bear Grylls is Running Wild, Best Medicine, Celebrity Weakest Link, The Faithful, Fear Factor: House of Fear, Memory of a Killer, and Next Level Baker.

New NBC TV series this season (so far): The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, On Brand with Jimmy Fallon, The Paper, Stumble, and Surviving Earth.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also view them here.

The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same-day viewing). Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers typically pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach. It’s also important to remember that ratings are designed to estimate how many people watch a show’s commercials — not the show itself. That’s what advertisers pay for.

What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better?

“Dancing With the Stars” is benching Val Chmerkovskiy after his recent joke about judge Carrie Ann Inaba.

“The well-being of everyone who works on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is non-negotiable. Val’s social media post was inappropriate and does not reflect the values or standards expected of anyone connected with the show,” BBC Studios said in a statement on Saturday. “As a result, he will not participate in next week’s show.”

For context, during the Oct. 13 episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba critiqued Jenna Johnson (who is married to Chmerkovskiy) for having a lift in her routine, and read her the definition of said lift. Afterward, Chmerkovskiy posted to his TikTok story, “You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night,” seemingly referencing Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

The post was quickly deleted, but Inaba saw it and commented on her own Instagram, thanking the media for alerting her to his remark.

Disney

Chmerkovskiy, who has appeared on “Dancing With the Stars” since the second season, later apologized to Inaba and the viewers he upset, posting the following message on his Instagram Story on Thursday: “I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for my recent post. I have reached out to Carrie Ann to apologize directly and personally, and I also want to apologize publicly as I understand my words affect so many outside of our internal DWTS family. I recognize that l am in a fortunate position to have a platform and to be a role model to some, and I need to treat that with more care by actively pausing to think before I post to ensure what I am sharing aligns with who l am, and who I want to be for you all. I am truly sorry to Carrie Ann, and everyone who I hurt with my careless post. I will do better moving forward.”

Jenna Dewan, Chermkovskiy’s partner, will still dance at dedication week, Variety confirms, and will be paired with Alan Bersten, who was eliminated in week three. Dewan will be dancing a Viennese waltz to “Unchained Melody,” dedicated to her mother.

“Jenna Dewan is aware and has continued to be a true professional and respectful of the process,” the source tells Variety. “Jenna is a beloved part of the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ family, and we are grateful for the joy and positivity she brings to the show.”

During Season 34, Inaba opened up to Variety about the criticism and constant booing she receives in the ballroom — something the male judges, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli, do not.

“It used to really affect me. I have been targeted with this kind of negativity since the show began, back when we had chat rooms. I remember seeing some horrible words written about me, and I was shocked,” she shared. “Sometimes the things they say are cruel, and that has affected me. It’s made me scared. It’s not so much that I get hurt as I get afraid, because it feels like they’re attacking me verbally, so I shrink down a little during the season, especially after week five or six.”

A$AP Rocky has finally dropped “Shroom Clouds,” a song he performed a handful of times in 2021 and ’22 before putting it on the back burner. Now completed with guests Reggie and Jeremih, the song is out via A$AP Worldwide/RCA. Check it out below.

Produced by Sleeping Bear and Hector Delgado, “Shroom Clouds”—previously titled “Mushroom Clouds”—is the first taste of Don’t Be Dumb – Disc 2, Rocky told Billboard. (That detail is unconfirmed in the single’s press release.) “Disc 2 is all of the songs that I dropped that those alter egos didn’t get an album to live on, because the next chapter is right after that,” he elaborated. Rocky is currently preparing to tour Australasia.

I’ve met plenty of filmmakers with a first feature script they can’t afford to shoot. Too many locations. Too many characters. Extreme waiting for someone else to say yes. Why would you do that to your career/

Contained horror is nothing new. I compare it to the Blair Witch guy back in the ’90’s.We had the euro premiere of the BWP. It offers a practical way forward. Take one location, a small cast and a situation that gets worse every time somebody tries to fix it. Suddenly, your limited resources become part of the storytelling.

The audience doesn’t care how many trucks you hired. They care what’s behind that locked door and whether your character is foolish enough to open it.

Your first feature needs to get made.

That sounds obvious. Yet so many first-time filmmakers write scripts requiring six countries, a collapsing motorway and an actor whose agent won’t return their calls.

Try a house. A handful of characters. Something terribly wrong.

Contained horror gives you a manageable production and a powerful storytelling challenge: make the audience afraid of what might happen next.

Here are seven reasons contained horror could be the smartest strategy for your first feature.

1. You can build around a location you already have

A flat, workshop or isolated cottage can become your entire story world. Fewer locations mean fewer moves, fewer negotiations and more time to shoot on a minimal budget.

But write for the actual space. That strange cupboard or window overlooking nothing might be your best production asset.

Ask: What could make this familiar place frightening?

2. A small cast gives relationships room to explode

You don’t need twenty characters. You need a few people with incompatible wants and something to hide.

In 10 Cloverfield Lane (2026), confinement intensifies the uncertainty between three central characters. Who should you trust when leaving might kill you?

Ask: Who would your protagonist least want to be trapped with?

3. Restrictions create suspense

A locked door immediately raises questions. Why is it locked? Who has the key? What happens if it opens?

Saw (2004)  builds its central predicament around two men trapped in a bathroom. The physical restriction forces decisions.

Ask: What prevents escape—and how does each attempt make matters worse?

4. Sound can do work your budget cannot

A scrape upstairs. Breathing behind a wall. A familiar voice saying something impossible.

You can suggest a much larger threat through sound and the actor’s reaction. Showing everything too early can make the danger feel smaller.

Ask: What could the audience hear before your character understands it?

5. Horror gives your audience a clear promise

“An unsettling drama about unresolved tensions” is difficult to communicate.

“A grieving woman discovers something living inside her walls” gives us a character, a threat and a reason to watch.

A clear premise helps you write the film, pitch it and shape its trailer.

Ask: Can you describe the frightening predicament in one sentence?

6. Containment makes you practise the essentials

With fewer distractions, weak scenes become obvious. You must control performance, framing, rhythm and the release of information.

The Babadook (2014) shows how domestic space and a strained relationship can sustain horror. The emotional problem gives the frightening events their weight.

Ask: What emotional wound does the threat keep pressing?

7. Finishing creates your next opportunity

A contained film still needs proper planning, safe working conditions and excellent sound. Small does not automatically mean easy—or profitable.

But a scope you can manage gives you a better chance of completing a film you can show audiences, collaborators and prospective backers.

Ask: Can you deliver this story with resources you can realistically secure?

From Elliot’s Notebook

I keep meeting filmmakers waiting for enough money to make their first feature. Sometimes the more useful question is: what story could you make with what you already have?

A room is available. Two actors are keen. There’s a noise nobody can explain.

Start there.

Give us characters worth caring about, then make us dread what happens when they open the door.

Harry Styles paid tribute last night to his late One Direction bandmate Liam Payne by performing an unreleased acoustic song titled “What Is Enough” from the stage of Madison Square Garden.

The sold-out performance came on the two-year anniversary of Payne’s death at 31 from a fall from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Styles is currently performing a residency (through October 31) at MSG as part of his Together, Together tour. On Friday night, according to various reports, he told the packed house, “I feel incredibly lucky to get to play these shows here in New York, and this building means a lot to me…And two years ago today, I lost one of those friends…I’m sure a lot of you have been through similar things. I hope you haven’t. But really, it’s just about looking after each other.”

The singer continued, “There are so many people who have touched my life in such special ways that I wouldn’t be here without. I’m gonna play you a song I wrote for my friend about two years ago, if that’s all right.” After identifying the song as “What Is Enough,” Styles, accompanying himself with a guitar, launched into the gently melodic tune with lyrics that included, “I’m not wise enough/But I wrote you a letter just to burn it up/And watch it rise like you’re in the sky.”

Rolling Stone posted a clip of the performance, watch it below.

Styles and Payne were original members of One Direction from the group’s beginning in 2010 through its end in 2015.

Five days. That’s how long President Trump’s latest press secretary, Katie Zacharia, lasted before she was fired Friday.

Her stint, which was about as long as the recommended shelf life for an open can of beans (if refrigerated), broke the previous record set by Anthony Scaramucci.

During Trump’s first term, Scaramucci lasted 11 days as White House communications director — the suggested length of time before a sealed pack of hot dogs expires.

Their minuscule tenures represent an impressive race to the bottom in a once-prestigious role that was created just under a century ago, during the Great Depression.

The press secretary typically stuck in the job for years or entire terms, rather than days or weeks. For reference, Scaramucci’s dizzying 2017 arrival and departure broke a 72-year-old record.

Jonathan Daniels served just 19 days (recommended expiration time for a tub of sour cream) in 1945. He at least had a valid excuse for his short run: President Franklin D. Roosevelt died.

Trump told reporters Friday that Zacharia might continue to work for him “in some form, but maybe a more pleasant form.”

He sowed further confusion when he recounted his conversation with Zacharia, claiming that he told her, “Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider” and asked her, “Katie, do you need this? I don’t think you need this.”

With verbal chops like those, who needs an articulate press secretary? Apparently not Trump, judging by his appointment of someone whose debut was anything but professional.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and recall her first day on the job. It was Monday.

Zacharia appeared wholly unprepared when she took the lectern to address the press corps. She looked down and read nervously from a script, took just three questions and embarrassingly mixed up references to “her husband” and “her president.” She abruptly exited the briefing after just 11 minutes.

Zacharia previously worked as a conservative commentator and senior communications advisor for Trump Media & Technology Group (Truth Social). She monitored the president’s social media posts to discern what was of importance to him, then would go on air to talk about those topics. In essence, she was a press secretary, just not in the White House.

She told the conservative outlet Human Events on Thursday that she had been aiming for a job within the administration, frequently appearing as an expert voice on conservative platforms such as Fox News.

“My philosophy is, I’m on TV enough where if he sees me and he likes me, then I will be recruited for the job,” she said. “I do not believe that lobbying for that job would have been successful, and I wanted to work for it. I wanted to audition for it.”

She succeeded Karoline Leavitt, who served quite a long time — 19 months — before leaving to “spend more time with my family,” then immediately signed on with Fox News as an on-air contributor.

The revolving door of Trump administration press secretaries has at least been entertaining. Most stayed on significantly longer than Zacharia (the bar is low, after all), and at least a few managed to leave a lasting impression.

Sean Spicer kicked off the parade in 2017, scolding journalists his first day on the job when defending the size of Trump’s inauguration crowd. It was record-breaking, he claimed. It was not.

Spicer became the inspiration for one of the best recurring “SNL” sketches ever when Melissa McCarthy transformed into him, embodying the new administration’s disdain toward the press: “I’m not here to be your buddy!” she screamed at befuddled reporters.

McCarthy’s “Spicy” is hard to beat, but a Zacharia parody could come in a close second should it end up as the premise for “SNL’s” cold open this weekend.

When Trump announced her appointment last week in a social media post, he referred to her as “an attorney.” She referred to herself as a lawyer.

But when a reporter asked Trump on Monday where she had passed her bar exam, the president threw the question to Zacharia, who was standing behind him on the South Lawn. She stepped up to the mic and answered, “When I moved to China.”

By Wednesday, reporting surfaced that Zacharia sat for the California bar exam after graduating from Pepperdine University’s law school in 2011, but did not pass. In China, she worked in international transaction law, which didn’t require admission to a state bar.

If history is any indicator, whoever replaces Zacharia as Trump’s press secretary should have a go bag packed and stashed directly behind the lectern.

The once-respected position has been degraded by six years of poor decisions and a volatile president who prefers to communicate with the electorate at 3 a.m. in ALL CAPS via his own social media platform.

Here’s to the next White House press secretary. May you outlast the shelf life of a carton of milk.

The new live-action Street Fighter movie was praised after its full roster was confirmed, largely because its ensemble looked like they were lifted straight out of the video games. The expansive lineup is also a tribute to the franchise, with characters pulled from Fighting Street, Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers. However, the inclusion of niche or deep-cut characters Cammy, Dan, Juli, Joe, and El Fuerte only made Sagat’s glaring omission more frustrating. Director Kitao Sakurai has now revealed why they deliberately excluded him.

Sagat was a tournament boss in Street Fighter II, the second-to-last opponent players faced before facing M. Bison. Sagat’s backstory is also tied to Dan Hibiki’s, whose father, Go Hibiki, was accidentally killed by Sagat before the events of Fighting Street. Ryu also gave him his massive chest scar in that game, and they have become primary arch-rivals since. Integral to the franchise’s foundational lore, Sagat’s villain and redemption arc arguably surpassed those of the other characters. Speaking with MovieWeb, Sakurai said they have bigger plans for him in a follow-up film.

“Sagat is one of the most iconic characters of the game, and so it wasn’t an oversight. We intentionally were like, ‘We need room for the story to grow,’ and Sagat is one of those characters that you don’t want him to be a throwaway. You know, you want to be like, ‘Oh, Sagat’s in town,’ kind of thing. So that was the rationale for then.”

The movie’s mid-credit scene hints that he will be a key villain in a potential sequel. This reveal took creative liberties with the source material, as Sagat was supposed to be an established boss in the World Warrior tournament rather than a future recruit. The deviation drew criticism, with many questioning the decision to exclude Sagat from the main roster while also featuring Joe, a much lesser-known character from Fighting Street.

Sakurai said he relished the discourse, which, for better or worse, proves the franchise’s following is heavily invested. “I kind of enjoy the fact that there’s so much chatter and talk of like, ‘where’s Sagat, where’s Sagat, they f—- up, they f—- up,'” he quipped. “I kind of like the fact that there’s going to be this sort of heated discussion around [it].”

Street Fighter featured few on-screen matches despite teasing a high-stakes, multi-bracket tournament in the trailers. Sakurai said he also wanted to pair characters in dream match-ups, but decided against that due to time constraints. “You only have a certain amount of shooting days and screen time, and you have to focus on what’s important and the heart of the story. For me, it was Ken and Ryu,” he explained.

He also confirmed cutting out a scene that proved too dark for a campy, PG-13 film. “We had this long, elaborate speech that M. Bison gave about how he was in the circus as a child and burned down a railway car full of his abusers. We went way deep on this stuff, and they were happy that we cut that out of the movie,” he said.

Critics and audiences are heavily divided on Street Fighter on Rotten Tomatoes, panning it for its tone and story while also hailing its style and faithful homage to the source material. Sakurai evidently left loose threads that could only be tied into a sequel, but that depends on whether the film turns a profit — it’s currently struggling on that front with a disappointing debut at the box office.

Former Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan says he’s completely cut ties with the game since he left Blizzard five years ago.

Kaplan left the company in April 2021 after 19 years working there, while Overwatch 2 was still in development.

In a new interview with Gamespot, he was asked what his relationship was with the series now, and whether he ever plays it and still has a soft side for it because it was his ‘baby’.

Kaplan replied that he had completely cut ties with the game, but that he handled better than he could have, because he had already been through it with World of Warcraft and knew what feelings to expect this time.

“Oddly, leaving World of Warcraft was a training moment for me,” he explained. When I left WoW to work on [the later cancelled] Titan it was, I think, November or December of 2008. And WoW was who I was at that point.

“I worked every minute – every waking minute – on WoW. If I wasn’t working on WoW, I was playing WoW. And every time I played WoW, I had this notepad next to the desk that I’d be filling out to walk in the next morning and go ‘these are all the things we need to change’.

“It was kind of shocking in a very negative emotional way to step away from WoW, because it was such a part of who I was and how I identified. It was who I was as a game developer.

“I kind of went through a little bit of shock leaving WoW back in 2008. So, when I stepped away from Overwatch in April of 2021, I was kind of used to that moment of what it meant to give all of yourself, your heart, your soul – because it’s not just a job, there’s no one who can do this and have it just be a job – and then have this shocking moment where you realize it doesn’t belong to you. It belongs to the team, belongs to the players, it belongs to Blizzard, but it doesn’t belong to you.

“And with Overwatch, I had a very almost clinical separation, knowing how the WoW thing had gone. I’ve literally not played the game since April 2021.”

Kaplan is now working on The Legend of California, a new open-world online first-person shooter set in an alternate California during the Gold Rush.

Explaining that he has made efforts to make sure Overwatch isn’t a part of his life, Kaplan said he was still proud of everything he and his team had done, but he didn’t want to be someone constantly looking back at past glories.

“For my own psyche, I don’t read the subreddits,” he explained. “After I said my goodbye to competitive Overwatch and the Overwatch subreddit, I never go back and read.

“I don’t watch YouTube [videos]. I don’t search for my name in Overwatch. I don’t search for Overwatch. I sort of just disconnect. I actually tell all the algorithms, like, ‘yeah, I’m not really interested in Overwatch anymore, I know you think I’m the Overwatch guy, but that’s just not for me anymore’.

“And I just do that for a healthy separation. I do have those moments, very emotional [moments], where sometimes I’ll see a picture from BlizzCon 2014, where we announced Overwatch. It is, to this day, one of the most special days in my life, you know?

“Watching Chris go out there and announce it, and getting to follow it up with him. The way my team felt about it. I’m so immensely proud of everything that everybody at Blizzard, not just Team 4, did to make Overwatch a great game. Like, SNFD, or Story and Franchise Development, the cinematics group at Blizzard. [It is] the most talented cinematics group in the history of video games.

“I still have so much pride, I hold all those people in the highest regard. But just for my own sanity… Have you ever seen Napoleon Dynamite? Okay, there’s that character, Uncle Rico, who’s like, ‘I was good at football,’ and he’s always like out there, like watching the old videotapes of himself. I don’t want to be Uncle Rico!

“Overwatch happened. I was a part of it. There’s a group there now and Overwatch is now about them. Both the players and the developers, that’s their Overwatch now. They’re making it, they own it, they play it. I’m onto this new thing, and that’s where I’m at in my life.”
