Alicia Keys recently told The Times of London that the music industry can feel like a boys’ club, and that it is difficult for women, particularly if they are working as producers or studio engineers, to break in.

“The music world becomes a good old boy network and all the incredible women working as engineers and producers are not given an open door,” Keys says. “Women make up 2 per cent of the entire business. I’m a producer and here we are, doing a bunch of work, killing it, so it’s shocking that the number is so small. Rather than just being pissed off about that, it was time to create opportunities.”

While acknowledging some of her tracks contain feminist messages, Keys said they weren’t overtly intentional, and instead naturally arose from her own pursuit of empowerment.

“I didn’t aim to come up with feminist message songs, and most of them were written because I wasn’t feeling that strong so I had to give myself a pep talk to keep going, but it is a thread through my work,” she said.

Earlier in the interview, when asked to share advice for up-and-coming artists, Keys said she would tell them “to think about how to become the owners of their own creations.” The 17-time Grammy winner added that becoming your own advocate is key to thriving on the business side of the music industry, which is particularly difficult to navigate.

“No one tells you these things,” she said. “You deal with all these executives and lawyers who love to take their percentages and overcharge you, but they never say, ‘How can we ensure you’re here to stay?’”

The scoring challenge: 25,000+ CVEs await NVD analysis

Threat Intelligence teams often rely on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) to triage, assess, and escalate vulnerabilities impacting their technology stacks. However, there are sometimes delays in assigning a CVSS score by industry authorities, such as the National Vulnerability Database (NVD), which is maintained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

As the volume of CVEs has continued to increase year over year, the NVD has struggled to keep up with the increased demand for analysis and scoring. The following report, captured on June 18, 2025, from NIST, showcases the vulnerabilities awaiting analysis.

As a result, organizations face challenges including:

  • Delayed escalation of critical CVEs and inefficient remediation protocols: Without CVSS scores assigned, threat intelligence teams can struggle to prioritize, assess, and escalate CVEs to their vulnerability management team. As a result, it becomes difficult to determine which CVEs require immediate remediation, which can delay the vulnerability management team’s deployment of efficient patch management protocols due to the postponed escalation of CVEs.
  • Wider exposure windows: The time-to-report and subsequent time-to-patch for CVEs increase the exposure window for organizations, leaving high-risk CVEs vulnerable to potential exploitation in the wild.
  • Compliance complications: Many organizations are required (such as by PCI-DSS) to address vulnerabilities above certain CVSS thresholds within specified timeframes. CVSS scoring delays can inadvertently cause organizations to miss compliance deadlines.

Feedly’s solution: CVSS estimate score

In response to these challenges, Feedly developed a CVSS estimate score to bridge the gap between CVE identification and CVSS score assignment, providing threat intelligence teams with an early warning system to monitor, assess, and prioritize CVEs with higher fidelity.

How Feedly estimates CVSS

Feedly uses a multifaceted approach built on machine learning models to estimate CVSS scores. The estimate is calculated based on the vulnerability type, description, attack complexity, and exploit info.

Data sourcing and CVE enrichment

  • Feedly collects and enriches CVE data from a variety of sources including NVD, ENISA, vendor advisories, and other high-trust OSINT sources to gather proof-of-exploit (PoE) information.
  • This assessment operates in near real-time, providing instant CVE insights as information emerges from these trusted sources.

Feedly continues to update its CVSS Estimate until the NVD assigns an official score; thereafter, it no longer updates the CVSS estimate. Security teams should use Feedly’s CVSS estimate as an interim measure and switch to the official score once available.

CVSS prediction process

When an article appears in Feedly, it is assessed by a series of machine learning models to analyze and predict CVSS based on the attack vector, vulnerability description, and past CVEs with confirmed CVSS scores. Knowing these past attack vectors and their relationship with CVSS scoring based on years of collected data.

Machine learning process

Feedly deploys a system of machine learning models trained on historical data where the inputs are articles mentioning the CVE. The predicted outputs represent the NVD CVSS categories which are used to calculate CVSS scores. Feedly will assess and score weighted vocabulary, historical datapoints, and patterns across articles mentioning specific CVEs to arrive at aggregated CVSS estimate scores. Feedly’s CVSS Estimate system contains the following structured process:

1. Data extraction and scoring

Feedly AI builds and maintains a comprehensive dataset derived from thousands of past CVE reports. Each data point is scored based on its “importance” in relation to CVSS scoring. These associations enable machine learning models to rapidly identify vulnerabilities that are more likely to be severe, based on the data points collected in CVE and trusted OSINT reporting.

2. Probability estimation

Feedly AI then predicts the probability of a specified outcome, in this case, the likelihood that a CVE has a High (7.0-10.0), Medium (4.0-6.9), or Low (0.1-3.9) CVSS score. It assesses against historical data, determining which patterns of data are indicative of a respective score. This machine learning engine calculates the probability that a CVE belongs to one of these categories based on the weighting of these words ingested from source inputs.

3. Decision aggregation

Lastly, Feedly AI assesses combinations of data points collected and aggregates the predictions to determine a final CVSS Estimate. This machine learning model can capture complex patterns in data to arrive at a final estimated score.

Where to access CVSS Estimate scores in Feedly

Feedly’s CVSS Estimate appears in both CVE Insights Cards and the Vulnerability Dashboard, providing threat intelligence teams with a way to better track and monitor vulnerabilities impacting their technology stacks.

Vulnerability Dashboard

Enable the CVSS Estimate column in your Vulnerability Dashboard to view Feedly’s estimated CVSS score for each CVE. As shown in the image below, even when an official score hasn’t been published yet, Feedly provides an estimated CVSS to help you assess severity early.

This feature is especially useful when scanning multiple CVEs at once and applying the dashboard filters to highlight only the most relevant vulnerabilities and their estimated impact.

CVE Insights Cards

When deep-diving into a specific CVE, the CVE Timeline in Feedly’s Insights Cards offers valuable context, including the CVSS Estimate Score. In the example below, Feedly flagged the CVSS as HIGH even before NVD officially assigned it a score of 8.8.

CVE Insights Cards are free and publicly available. Even if you’re not a Feedly customer, you can explore them at feedly.com/cve to get a full 360° view of any CVE you’re tracking.

In short…

In sectors where early warning systems are crucial for effective threat response, threat intelligence teams can bridge the gap between official CVSS Score assignments using Feedly’s CVSS Estimate capability, moving towards near-real-time assessment of vulnerability-related threats. By combining CVE data enrichment, machine learning models, and data-driven severity predictions, Feedly’s CVSS Estimate enables teams to efficiently identify, assess, and escalate critical vulnerabilities, facilitating faster and informed decision-making to protect their organization’s critical technology stack.

The scoring challenge: 25,000+ CVEs await NVD

Multiple upcoming movies and TV shows will feature Superman in the DCU. The Man of Steel ushered in a new era for the DC Universe behind David Corenswet’s portrayal of Clark Kent in 2025’s Superman, directed by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. While DC Studios’ slate of projects is still undergoing major changes, the last son of Krypton’s presence is set in stone.

Superman was confirmed to appear in four new DC movies and TV shows set for release over the next few years. Of course, other major DC heroes like the Green Lantern, Batman, and Wonder Woman have entries in development (some further along on the production timeline than others), but Clark Kent/Superman remains the face of the franchise. Ahead are the releases that are expected to bring Superman back for a role in the story:

4 DC Projects Confirmed To Feature Superman

Supergirl

DC Studios

DC Studios’ next theatrical release this year on June 26 will be Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. Starring Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, this film will draw inspiration from Tom King’s comic book run, Woman of Tomorrow. The story will show Kara Zor-El traveling across the galaxy to celebrate her 23rd birthday before helping a young alien girl track down her father’s murderer, leading to her own quest for revenge.

As confirmed in promotional trailers, David Corenswet will return as Superman for a minor role in this movie. Thus far, one trailer showed him in a video message asking Kara how she is doing and when she might be coming back to Earth.

Man of Tomorrow

DC Comics

Following Supergirl, Clark Kent will return for a much bigger appearance in Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn’s sequel to the hero’s 2025 solo movie. Starring David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Lars Eidinger, Skyler Gisondo, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, and Aaron Pierre, this story will unite Superman and Lex Luthor as unlikely allies against a bigger threat, the all-powerful Brainiac.

Unsurprisingly, Superman will be a co-leading character in this film (if not the main lead) alongside Lex Luthor. While plot details are still being kept under wraps, all eyes will be on the Man of Steel in this movie as he suits up again to save the planet. Man of Tomorrow is set to debut in theaters on July 9, 2027.

My Adventures with Superman Season 3

DC Animation

On the animated side, Clark Kent continues to thrive in the spotlight in the My Adventures with Superman series, which airs on HBO Max. Featuring the voices of Jack Quaid (Superman), Alice Lee (Lois Lane), Ishmel Sahid (Jimmy Olsen), and dozens more, this series follows Clark Kent in his younger years as a hero and reporter, as he builds his relationship with Lois and Jimmy while fighting major antagonists across Metropolis.

Naturally, Superman is the leading character in this series, which is told through his perspective as Quaid’s animated version of the Kryptonian grows into his role as Earth’s protector. Season 3 will add depth to the Superman family by introducing Superboy and showing Cyborg Superman, but Clark Kent’s storyline will remain the central focus as fans await more revelations.

My Adventures with Superman Season 3 is expected to debut on HBO Max this year, but there is no specific release timeframe.

Krypto Saves the Day! Season 2

DC Animation

Not regarded as part of the main canon story in the DC Universe, Krypto Saves the Day! is a series of animated shorts starring Clark Kent’s sometimes unruly canine, Krypto the Super-Dog. Featuring Teigo Dawson as Superman, these shorts show Krypto zooming through Metropolis and stopping his own brand of crime, including saving kids out of a school bus and going after a black cat that crosses his path on Halloween.

Superman’s role in these shorts is a tiny one, only making a couple of cameos from the background as Krypto takes the spotlight. Donning a bathrobe in his apartment in one episode and watching the dog from afar in others, his role in new episodes is expected to be similar to what fans have seen thus far.

The fourth episode (and season one finale) of Krypto Saves the Day!, titled “Coastal Catastrophe,” released on HBO Max on April 18, and a second season of the series is now in development.

Another ceremony means another roast from Nikki Glaser.

Glaser hosted the 20th annual Time 100 Gala on Thursday night at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, which celebrates Time‘s list of the world’s most influential people. The event honored the magazine’s annual picks for the 100 most influential people in the world. And in true Glaser style, she made it a roast, playfully taking jabs at Katy Perry, Hailey Bieber, Victoria Beckham, MrBeast, Kate Hudson and more, as well as Time itself.

“Welcome to the Time 100, the one list you actually want to be on this year,” the comedian said to a star-studded crowd kicking off the event.

Here’s a roundup of Glaser’s jokes throughout the night:

“This event is unique for more than just the scope of its honorees. It’s also the only ceremony of the year where the girls from KPop Demon Hunters aren’t singing ‘Golden.’ Yeah, we did try to book them, but they’re headlining a boat show in Boise.”

“MrBeast is here. Oh my God, my worst nephew is such a fan. MrBeast is here. So that does mean the doors are locked and if we can survive the next two hours, he will give us each $100,000? Or as he puts it, the cost of human dignity.” The YouTuber was sitting at the same table as Anderson .Paak and Natasha Lyonne.

“One of my favorite singer songwriters ever, Noah Kahan is here. Yes, if you look around the room and can’t find him, a little hint, he looks exactly like the guy who sold you weed at a Dave Matthews concert in 1998.”

“Hailey Bieber is here tonight. In addition to her work as a makeup and skincare mogul, Hailey has influenced millions of people to do the impossible, pay $30 for a smoothie. But in her defense, each smoothie does contain two grams of Justin’s [Bieber] bone marrow.”

“The gorgeous and talented Kate Hudson is here. Kate, I love you so much. I’ve always related to you. Mostly because I’ve lost a lot of guys in 10 days. And I’m almost famous.”

“One of the most impressive people on the list is Victoria Beckham, of course. Oh my god. She was a global pop star, now a serious fashion designer. She’s married to David Beckham. She’s rich, successful,
stunning. What’s it going to take to get you to smile? I mean, really, please smile. You’re one of the only British people who should.”

“What really blows my mind is that we have actual astronauts here tonight. It’s insane. These brave people who risked it all to go up into space and search for the unknown. And by astronaut, of course, I’m talking about Gayle King. Gayle, I love you so much. You had the courage to do something that so many people wouldn’t have the guts to do: Spend 12 minutes alone with Katy Perry. We thank you for that.”

The Gala also featured performances by Luke Combs and Coco Jones, as well as honorary tributes from members of this year’s list, including Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña, Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim, The Traitors host Alan Cumming, Time chief executive officer Jessica Sibley and editor in chief Sam Jacobs.

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear Universal Studios is doing something after dark is usually how scary it’s going to be—and that’s not surprising. Halloween Horror Nights has built that reputation with intense scares, haunted houses, and scare zones designed to keep you on edge. But you don’t have to love HHN to enjoy Universal after dark.

For those of us who still want to explore the park, go through immersive walkthroughs, see characters, and take in the atmosphere without constantly worrying what might be lurking around the corner, Universal’s Fan Fest Nights – now in its second year – offers a different kind of experience. That’s because it’s focused more on fun, fandom, and immersion than fear.

The first thing that comes to mind

The use of the term “brat” has become eroded of meaning — and yet Charli XCX’s appearance in the new film “Erupcja,” in which she plays a woman visiting Warsaw in summertime, might be keeping it alive.

That film’s director, Pete Ohs, has been a brat about filmmaking for a long time now. The director, in conversation with IndieWire, embraces the term affectionately. Ohs makes small-cast features deeply grounded in particular places, following misfit characters who may or may not relate to them. The latest, “Erupcja,” is a project that came out of Ohs living in Warsaw. He worked collaboratively with actors Lena Góra, Will Madden, Jeremy O. Harris, and Charli XCX to devise a story about a couple visiting Warsaw in advance of a marriage proposal and the stormy undercurrents that might destroy it.

Even before the movie came out, Ohs put some of the movie’s storytelling in the palms of viewers — he released all the footage from the “Erupcja” trailer online for anyone to take and edit however they choose.

“You’re not supposed to do it,” Ohs told IndieWire. “You’re going to reveal or spoil the movie; you’re going to let something supposedly bad happen, you’re going to lose control. And so much of the spirit of how I make movies is about letting go, following the intuition… Years ago, when I made ‘Jethica,’ I live-streamed the edit because I knew that if I were 16-years-old and if I could sit in on the edit of ‘Boogie Nights’ or something, just how much I would’ve loved that.”

The deconstructed trailer footage is available for download online now for that precise purpose, and Ohs has seen many different remixed edits come in through Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. That rapid feedback aligns with what Ohs sees as healthy for film in general.

The director could have had a pretty traditional indie film career story. He came up through the music video world, directing for bands like Wavves and Best Coast; then he got a screenplay into a workshop, raised the funds for a low-budget indie, got into a festival… everything that people are still taught is the track for emerging artists, even if that track feels more insubstantial each passing year. Ohs bounced against it so hard that it left him with an existential crisis.

“It made me consider quitting. I was like, ‘Why am I doing this?’” Ohs said. “That sent me down this journey of the last five, six films of making movies like a 15-year-old, of chasing that fun. Not trying to be a ‘real’ movie anymore and just doing things how I like to do them, which is to keep things small, to not be controlling. Greed is not good. Smaller is better. Less is more.”

Erupjca
‘Erupjca’1-2 Special

The big swing of “Erupcja” is its location — Warsaw, Poland, as hapless would-be fiancé Rob (Will Madden) puts it each time — which meant that Ohs had to use SAG rates for a standard theatrical feature, because there are no SAG contracts for low-budget films shot outside of the United States. His was an edge case, but the different contract class raised the minimums beyond the types of agreements that allowed him to go as low as $10,000 for a film budget, which he was able to pull off on his early feature “Jethica,” and which he stayed pretty close to on his films “Love and Work” and “The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick.”

Ohs still brought the same run-and-gun, video-making, improv ethos to the larger-scale (for him) film, though. And he still made the film quickly; that’s something that gets harder and harder to do within the traditional system and is much more in line with vibrant, inventive video-making styles on Reels and TikTok.

“I was [reading] about the Daniels’ new project, and of course, we can’t wait for whatever their next thing is. But I was thinking that they shot [‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’] before the pandemic. I’m sure they’ve been doing stuff, directing TV and commercials, and who knows what. But the reason Spielberg got so good is because he was directing TV episodes constantly; and then he started making movies; and then he was making ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Schindler’s List’ in the same year,” Ohs said.

Ohs sees filmmaking as a set of muscles, ones which, if you don’t get to work them out often enough, will never be as strong as they could be.

“ I was a kid who had this hobby with his friends of getting together to make videos. So this is just like the thing I like to do for fun. But I wasn’t coming from any industry connections or even awareness. I was in Ohio, so I didn’t go to film school. But I always had this desire to create, which I see really mirrored in the two generations below me, the YouTube generation and the TikTok generation. They’re all creators. I very much identify with that,” Ohs said.

Pete Ohs and Charli XCX behind the scenes of ‘Erupcja’

Hence, the “Erupcja” footage, an offering Ohs has put out to see what inventive things other creators can do with it. And if Ohs can give back one thing as he continues to make small movies with the same camera he’s owned since 2012, it’s a sense of confidence in putting scenes together and moving quickly, in keeping the momentum going so that he and his collaborators can keep having fun.

“Whenever I’m in situations of trying to quickly identify where the actor [should] stand, why would they stand there, how would that influence the infinite variations that come into play, and communicate that to the people who are waiting for [answers], that’s one of those muscles that doing it a lot does hone your ability,” Ohs said. “Even if you’re not necessarily making the absolute best decision ever, you’re making a solid decision that will work and allow things to keep moving forward.

The ability to keep moving forward is ultimately what helps Ohs keep making movies. “ It’s really some sort of conversation with the universe where I am just kinda like moving forward and trying to stay open to the gifts that the Movie Gods can give and the opportunities that they can present,” Ohs said.

The first of two full moons in May 2026 will happen on May 1. Completely round and full, the full moon will be in the ambitious, mysterious sign of Scorpio. The date alone has a special vibe about it: Beltane, an ancient Celtic fire festival, has always fallen on the first of May. It makes a moment of transition, as the festival’s symbolic bonfires usher the year into a new phase.

That’s not all: This full moon is one of two blue moons in May. The month begins and ends with a full moon, which is very rare. To find out what this could mean for you and how to make the most of this moment, keep reading.

Scorpio lifts the veil

The full moon on May 1 occurs in the fixed water sign of Scorpio. With Scorpio, nothing stays on the surface in part because the sign is ruled by two planets (formerly by Mars, now by Pluto, which was only discovered in 1930).

Taken together, Mars and Pluto explain why Scorpio energy can feel so intense. It’s powerful (Mars), but profound and transformative (Pluto). Scorpio wants to go deeper in order to understand, transform, and move on something stronger and new. You might feel Scorpio whispering to you under this full moon: “Change is good. You don’t have to stay the same.”

Every full moon brings hidden things to light as it brings other things to a close. Under a full moon in Scorpio, however, this is intensified. Veils are lifted now in relationships, in power structures, and in ourselves. Intuition is sharper, and perception is more fine. You may already feel this in the days leading up to the full moon—it could come as a heightened sensitivity or the feeling that something is in the air.

The central question of this full moon is, Where have you given up your power? And what should you let go of in order to regain it?

Sun in Taurus: when both depth and grounding are important

While the moon in Scorpio plunges us into the depths, the sun being in earthly Taurus will keep us grounded. This is a classic tension: Taurus with its love for the tangible, the sensual, the safe; Scorpio with its hunger for change and what lies beneath the surface. The tension is between constancy versus transformation.

The sun in Taurus reminds us that change needs solid ground from which to happen. Those who completely dissolve have nothing left from which something new can emerge. This full moon invites us to hold on to both: the depth of Scorpio and the rootedness of Taurus.

Venus and Saturn: Love, but serious

There is also a beautiful transit on May 1, namely Venus sextile Saturn, which gives this full moon a special touch. The need for real, deep connection will feel greater now. In existing relationships, this could come as a desire for more commitment and clarity. It’s a good time for an honest conversation that has perhaps been put off for too long. New relationships that form now will tend to be more serious too—you’ll attract people who really mean it.

One more thing: Mercury in Aries is now in conjunction with Chiron, the wounded healer. This speaks to communication that may hurt but ultimately heals. It’s about telling the truth now, even if it feels uncomfortable.

Financial decisions are also under a good star. The focus now should be on savings plans, well-thought-out investments, and long-term projects. Venus and Saturn in sextile don’t like wild speculation, but they reward everything that is built with perseverance and realism.

The first of two full moons in

On Saturday night, attendees at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner will thrill to the antics of Oz Pearlman, a renowned mentalist who dazzles audiences with mind-reading tricks. On Friday night, they partied as if they were going to see Amber Ruffin.

Ruffin, a popular comedian whose appearance at the 2025 WHCD was scotched after she angered the White House with some podcast remarks in which she called the Trump administration “kind of a bunch of murderers,” would certainly be out of place at this year’s event, which is expected to feature remarks from President Trump himself — the first time in either of his two terms he’s agreed to appear. So dinner attendees making their way across various Friday-night events tied to the annual “nerd prom” used the celebrations to vent some of their anxieties.

At a party backed by CAA and Vanity Fair, some conversations turned to whether the President might excoriate the media outlets that buy WHCD tables, and how long his remarks might last. Would journalists walk out if his comments hit too hard? And would the president appear — as others have at past WHCDs — to hand out awards to journalists who have done work that investigated him or the White House or revealed unsavory things about his time in it?

People who offered their thoughts did so under the condition they not be identified, so as not to call attention to themselves during a weekend that already had plenty of attention upon it.

Among those spotted at the event were CNN anchors Jim Sciutto, Elex Michelson, Wolf Blitzer and John Berman; Crooked Media’s Alex Wagner; former CBS News president Susan Zirinsky; ABC News’ Rick Klein; and independent journalist Don Lemon. The event was held at the residence of the Belgian Ambassador.

And at a party held in Georgetown by UTA, some members of a throng of attendees mused about the direction of CBS News. On Thursday, the Paramount division held a private dinner that brought together CBS News executives, Washington staffers, and President Trump, who spoke for an hour, sources confirmed to Variety. The meeting, which generated protest outside, took place as Paramount, run by CEO David Ellison, seeks regulatory approval for its plans to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, a deal that would create a massive assemblage of influential but old-school media assets. Paramount and CBS News declined to comment on the event.

Spotted at the UTA celebration, held at Osteria Mozza, were “CBS Evening News” anchor Tony Dokoupil; MS NOW’s Katy Tur; ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith; Fox News Channel’s Shannon Bream and Jimmy Failla; NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez; and CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Any celebration of journalism takes place as doubts about its future fester. Most of the major TV-news outlets continue to grapple with a rising generation of viewers who gravitate to digital creators and influencers: the erosion of traditional TV ratings; and the ongoing threat of layoffs as their parent corporations struggle to position themselves in the streaming era.

And yet more eyes, not less, wil be on the WHCD this year. In addition to CSPAN and CNN, which have Reuters it fry years, Fox News, MS NOW and NewsNation will also air the proceedings.

Some celebrations were less traditional. Grindr, the LGBTQ+ dating app eager to expand its influence on policy, held its own WHCD event, though CEO George Arison declined to reveal its location or discuss who might attend. Still, he noted, “Grindr is good at convening people,” and indicated that no matter what President Trump said Saturday night, the U.S. enjoyed freedoms that aren’t always found elsewhere.

“I was born in the Soviet Union. I came to America when I was 14, on my own,” Arison said. “I’ve lived in a country where you could not say what you wanted, and one of the things that makes America awesome is that you can say whatever you want and the government can’t do anything about that.”

One reason journalists and media executives still come to the WHCD in the Trump era is the opportunity to pitch. There are still scoops to promote, projects to tout and reputations to burnish. Yes, that was CSPAN boss Sam Feist making the rounds at the CAA party with two pins promoting his network on his lapel. And yes, a broad coterie of top news executives were spotted throughout the evening, including Debra OConnell, chair of Disney Entertainment Television; Mark Lazarus, CEO of Versant Media; Cesar Conde, chair of NBCUniversal’s news operations; Rebecca Blumenstein, NBC News’ president of editorial; Rebecca Kutler, president of MS NOW; Almin Karamehmedovic, president of ABC News;Amy Entelis,  CNN’s executive vice president for talent and development; Tom Cibrowski, president of CBS News; Bari Weiss, editor in chief of CBS News; and KC Sullivan, president of CNBC.

The executives know that, no matter what President Trump might say, they are about to enter what is usually a robust cycle for the news business. A midterm election, which often brings new dollars in advertising and a much broader viewership base, lies in the offing. And the results may raise stakes in Washington, which would only fuel greater ambitions.

So have another drink, folks. President Trump may scold, yell or even scorch, but no matter what he says, and no matter how much Industry hand-wringing it inspires, there’s always more news to cover.

Bill Maher took repeated shots at the “Michael” biopic for sidestepping the child abuse allegations Michael Jackson faced in his lifetime.

The comedian first referenced the Antoine Fuqua-directed movie at the tail-end of his monologue for Friday’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” where he mentioned that the Michael Jackson movie opened with “showings at 7, 9 and 11, just like the victims.”

Maher touched on the controversial film again during the “New Rules” segment that closed out the episode. “New rule: If you complain about Columbus Day because it ignores the fact he killed Indians, and you complain about Presidents’ Day because it ignores the fact that Washington owned slaved, then you can’t happily go see a movie where Michael Jackson doesn’t sleep with kids,” Maher sounded off. “Which is the movie that’s out now, where we just hear about the fun things Michael did.”

He added: “It’s playing a double bill with ‘Jeffrey Epstein: Superhost Extraordinaire’ and ‘John Wayne Gacy: Thanks for the Laughter.’”

Maher then took aim at the movie again during his commentary on grocery items, where he lamented about how new food products made him feel like he was “flirting with statutory rape.”

“What’s with very young small sweet peas and mini tater tots and baby carrots and extra virgin olive oil,” Maher quipped. “Gee, if I wanted to feel this pervy, I’ll go see the Michael Jackson movie.”

Maher’s digs at “Michael” came after the director, stars and Jackson family spoke out in defense of the movie. Specifically, ahead of the film’s release, Fuqua confirmed to the New Yorker that he initially planned to touch on Jackson’s 2003 arrest, sharing, “I shot [Michael] being stripped naked, treated like an animal, a monster.”

Per the outlet, Fuqua had initially “envisioned a film that might have read as a provocative defense of its subject,” before an agreement in Michael Jackson’s settlement with the Chandler family — who accused the singer of sexually abusing their 13-year-old son, something Jackson denied — derailed this plan. Namely, the $23 million settlement forbade the Jackson estate from participating in depictions of events tied to the allegation.

Colman Domingo and Nia Long, who play the Jackson patriarch and matriarch, respectively, then appeared on “Today” and offered their explanation as to why the film avoided the child abuse allegations.

“The film takes place from the ’60s to 1988. It does not go into the first allegations in 2005,” Domingo said on Wednesday. “So, basically, we center it on the makings of Michael. It’s an intimate portrait of who Michael is …through his eyes.”

After the film was mostly panned by critics online, Jackson’s nephews, TJ and Taj Jackson, spoke out in defense of the film. While TJ said that late singer and his fans deserved this movie, Taj slammed the media for trying to “control the narrative” of who Jackson was.

The singer faced 10 charges in 2005 tied to the alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old, who was not Jordan Chandler. After denying all of the allegations against him and participating in a 14-week trial, Jackson was acquitted on all counts. However, the controversy resurfaced in 2019 when a documentary, titled “Leaving Neverland,” brought about new allegations from two of Jackson’s alleged victims.

“Michael,” which stars Jackson’s real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, as the titular pop star, is playing in theaters now.

Bill Maher took repeated shots at the

Hello, this is Stromae

and we are gonna break down some of my music videos.

So this is the video clip of Papaoutai.

[Papaoutai]

You are looking for the best representation

of an absent father.

And to have no father in the video clip was too obvious,

too easy.

And actually the best idea was just to have a mannequin

which is the representation of the father.

So that was the first time I worked with Marion Motin

and she contact a lot of beautiful dancers, a krump dancer.

I think krump is originally from here, LA, if I’m not wrong

and we had the chance to have one of the best dancer

of krump.

He came all the way from U.S. to Belgium

to dance on the video clip

in the video clip.

So yeah, we were lucky to have him.

At the moment where when I’m dancing with him,

we don’t even know if it’s a dream.

That’s why we see him from the car just alone.

And him, his head

he’s just dreaming that he’s dancing with his father.

This is the video of Tous Les Memes.

[Tous Les Memes]

I remember we were discussing and I was saying,

Okay, let’s do this half woman, half man.

And he was like, Are you sure you wanna do that?

And I was like, Yeah, of course.

I’m okay with it.

I was naked here, but we were outside.

It was almost like 32 Fahrenheit.

So really cold.

So here we are standing and we are not in a real bed.

Difficult to shoot, to be honest.

So there is no mirror, actually they put just two glasses

two, everything, just to fake that it’s a mirror.

The camera is on a platform that can spin

and then they change the light.

And I remember that was not that easy to make it.

I remember this one, like this

and to have like everyone with the good distance.

That was tricky.

And yeah, thanks to Marion Motin,

it was perfect.

So the code in this video clip was

when I’m a man I’m in green

and when I’m a woman I’m in pink.

Then we finish on the pattern.

That’s exactly the pattern I have on my jacket.

‘Cause the concept on the last album was to have

a pattern for every song.

And the pattern for Tous Les Memes was those hearts.

This is the video of L’enfer.

[L’enfer]

This time I wanted to focus

on doing something really simple.

I remember that Luc came with this idea of doing

like a long zoom out.

I remember that it was difficult

for the person who were doing the focus.

It was always blurry at the very beginning

’cause it’s a really macro shot.

So it was difficult for her.

I remember ’cause I think we did 10 takes, 15 takes.

I don’t remember exactly.

But I remember that one takes

I forgot just to open my eyes.

I was almost like sleeping.

[laughs]

And I was like, Okay, sorry guys.

It’s a pretty easy trick.

You play your song in slow mo

to have a fast forward effect

and you play your track in fast forward

to have a slow mo effect.

So we had to have different speed on the same track.

To have this Ariana Grande ponytail,

we work with the same hair stylist, Alicia Dubois

who’s a friend of Coralie Barbier.

But to be honest,

it was a little bit complicated to do this.

We put some metal in my, just on my head to make it.

So here that was the opposite then the beginning.

So it wasn’t fast forward.

So I had like five second to do everything we just saw.

I was a little bit nervous about the performance.

I thought I had to do a lot of stuff

and actually it was a little bit too fake

when I was doing too much on the, on, you know, on acting.

And finally I just had to do some little subtle movement

which was more than enough to make it credible

and authentic.

So this is the video of Sante.

[Sante]

So the concept of the video clip came up from Luc.

The song Sante is just to celebrate

the one who can’t celebrate the actual workers.

The story behind the video clip is just

some manuals everywhere on working places.

The workers can be inspired by it

and just dance and have fun on their workplace.

And actually we did the video clip in Ukraine

’cause you are used to work with Ukraine.

A lot of Belgian artists, French artists work with Ukraine.

We wanted to have real people dancing.

We didn’t want to have real dancers

and you can feel it in the video.

We had Marion the choreographer,

the same as on Fils de Joie.

Actually she was like motivating them.

Like she was screaming behind the camera, like,

Okay, go ahead and.

It’s funny to see how natural they were

and how much they they gave for the video clip.

I’m really thankful.

I think that the very last shot,

I think she drunk a little bit

like just to make it more natural.

This is the video of Fils de Joie.

[Fils de Joie]

In a fictional country,

the state holds a funeral for a missing sex worker.

That’s exactly the concept of the video clip.

And the original concept came from Coralie Barbier.

Usually we have a concept behind the song

and we work the three of us,

Coralie, Luc and me

and we brainstorm together.

This national funeral was the best way to explain

and to express what I’m saying in the song Fils de Joie

[Fils de Joie]

So we added that harpsichord

at the very beginning of the Fils de Joie song.

We had to make the song a little bit longer.

And that was the best way to introduce,

to have an introduction.

We wanted to explain

that it’s a national parade

and to be the most realistic,

we had to start even without any sound.

That’s the reason why we decided

to take the time to have a real, like a movie introduction.

That’s a big monument in Brussels

and we had to work in post production

just to make it a little bit like brutalism.

So we were 500 on the set

but here you can see that there is more than 500.

So everything was done in post.

We had just one line here.

Those are real.

Those are real.

Those are fake.

The first rows are real, but the very end are fake.

Thanks to the post-production,

we had a lot of people.

[laughs]

[Man] I have a question.

Mmh.

[Man] How’d you land on the hair hat?

[laughs]

It’s a fictional country.

And the best way to be a fiction was just to have

a special haircut that comes from nowhere actually

that you can’t point a country in particular.

The technique is like a big burn

with fake hair on it already.

Then they put my hair like this.

They put the cake on my head

and then she tries to just hide the fake hair with my hair.

And then finally you have this haircut

which is a bit folkloric.

It’s actually the haircut of the cover of the album.

The goal was to be in a fictional country

and we tried to make it the more multicultural as possible.

Of course there is a lot of white people

but we are in Belgium though

so it was difficult to find a lot of black people.

That was the goal,

to have like a big mixture of people

from all around the world.

And that this group is like the first real choreography.

The reference for me is Riverdance.

Of course the goal was not to imitate what they do

but where the choreography is completely inspired

by this kind of traditional dances.

The choreography with the coffin,

that was an inspiration from,

I dunno if it’s in Ghana

but there is some videos on TikTok

and they’re just holding this coffin

and they dance at the same time.

And we wanted just to do the same

’cause it’s a positive way to celebrate someone

and we wanted to do the same here in the video clip.

[Man] That’s perfect.

Okay.

[Man] And then if you could grab the remote

and just do a couple fake like button,

like you’re pausing it.

Okay.

Oh, actually that’s good. Oh, there.

Yeah. Do both, do both.

That’s fine.

[laughs]

Do that, yeah.

David Ellison held an event at the at the U.S. Institute of Peace on Thursday in honor of Donald Trump, where the president reportedly spoke to guests for nearly an hour.

According to a Friday report by The Times, CBS News executives and journalists were in attendance, including Bari Weiss and Norah O’Donnell. The acting attorney general Todd Blanche was also present; the Justice Department, which Blanche oversees, still has to approve Paramount‘s $110 billion megadeal for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Invitations for Thursday’s event, that were given out by Paramount and named Ellison as host, described the night as “honoring the Trump White House.”

WBD shareholders approved Ellison’s impending Paramount merger on Tuesday, inching the deal closer to being completed.

Trump gave remarks at the dinner for almost an hour, The Times reported, where Paramount’s chief legal officer Makan Delrahim; Secretary of State Marco Rubio; and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller were all also in attendance.

Anonymous CBS News journalists told The Times they were “taken aback” by the dinner, and worried it could send a message of “coziness” between the newsroom and the Trump administration.

The event came a few days before Saturday’s White House Correspondents Dinner, which Trump will attend. CBS News, which is backed by Paramount, is planning to bring Secretary Pete Hegseth to the dinner.

Also on Saturday night, the Wall Street Journal will accept the Katharine Graham Award for Courage and Accountability, which “recognizes an individual or news gathering team for coverage of subjects and events of significant national or regional importance in line with the human and professional qualities exemplified by the late Katharine Graham.”

The piece that was recognized was published on July 17, entitled “Jeffrey Epstein’s Friends Sent Him Bawdy Letters for a 50th Birthday Album. One Was From Donald Trump.” It is notably the report that led Trump to file a defamation lawsuit against Wall Street Journal owner News Corp., which detailed a 2003 letter from him to Jeffrey Epstein in which he wrote that they share a “wonderful secret.”

A Florida federal judge dismissed the suit in April. U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles wrote in the order dismissing the lawsuit that Trump’s legal team failed to argue that the article was published by those named in the complaint with malicious intent.

Ameesha Patel reveals how her Lagaan casting twist and bond with Aamir Khan led to Mangal Pandey.

Actor Ameesha Patel has opened up about how she landed Mangal Pandey: The Rising, revealing that her rapport with Aamir Khan and an unexpected casting turn during Lagaan played a crucial role in the opportunity coming her way.

Aamir Khan, A BBC Interview and an Unlikely Connection

Speaking in a recent interaction, Ameesha shared that Aamir first took note of her during a BBC interview, where he was impressed by her articulation and intellect.

“Aamir actually saw an interview of mine with BBC and found me very intelligent,” she said, adding that they later bonded during a joint interaction in Delhi.

While waiting for the shoot to begin, the two struck up a conversation, even playing noughts and crosses and discussing books. That easy camaraderie, she believes, laid the foundation for their professional association.

When Ameesha Was Dropped From Lagaan

Ameesha also revealed that her connection with Aamir went back to the time she had auditioned for Lagaan and was almost finalised for the film.

“I had screen-tested for Lagaan, was selected, and had even allotted dates,” she recalled. However, while she was shooting for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in New Zealand, she received a call that changed things.

Director Ashutosh Gowariker felt her personality didn’t align with the role of a village girl. “He felt my eyes looked too educated, and I am also extremely fair-skinned,” she said.

Ironically, the same traits worked in her favour soon after. Ameesha pointed out that her “educated” body language helped her land Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, where she played Sakeena, a politically aware and refined character.

Looking back, she acknowledged how close she came to being part of two iconic films releasing on the same day. “Imagine, Lagaan and Gadar released together… I would have been in both,” she reflected.

Aishwarya Rai’s Exit and the Casting Shift

Before Ameesha stepped into Mangal Pandey, the role of Jwala was initially offered to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Her exit from the film had sparked considerable speculation at the time.

Addressing it in an earlier interview, Aishwarya clarified that the situation stemmed from a disagreement involving the producer and her representatives. She also revealed that the producer had apologised to her for the way the matter was handled publicly.

However, reports at the time quoted producer Bobby Bedi suggesting that the exit was linked to a fee renegotiation, claiming the actor wanted to revise her remuneration after signing the agreement.

A Role That Eventually Found Its Way to Ameesha

Following Aishwarya’s departure, Ameesha Patel was cast as the Bengali widow Jwala in Mangal Pandey: The Rising. The film, headlined by Aamir Khan, went on to become a significant project, and for Ameesha, it marked an opportunity shaped as much by timing as by her earlier association with the actor.

Her reflections now reveal how a mix of missed chances, unexpected decisions and personal equations quietly shaped one of the more interesting casting journeys in early 2000s Bollywood.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker appear to be on their way back to the big screen together for Rush Hour 4 under Paramount Pictures. The original trilogy centered on the unlikely friendship between Chan’s Chief Inspector Lee and Tucker’s LAPD Detective James Carter, who uncovered a money counterfeiting plot and saved the daughter of a Chinese ambassador twice, all while bringing barrels of laughs at every turn. However, the upcoming fourth movie has not come without its fair share of controversy.

With a push from Paramount leadership and a shockingly powerful fan of the series, Rush Hour 4 moved closer to going into pre-production in early 2026, marking the most substantial update in its development in years. Paramount is even reportedly bringing back the director of the first three films, Brett Ratner, who has been largely absent from Hollywood after facing multiple accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct starting in 2017. However, while he is set to direct only his second movie in over a decade (the first being a documentary on United States First Lady Melania Trump), getting the movie’s core cast back has been a different issue.

According to insider Matthew Belloni’s Puck newsletter, the producers for the upcoming Rush Hour 4 have not closed deals with franchise stars Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Both stars were reportedly offered only $8 million each to return for the movies, which would be less than half of what they earned in 2007 for Rush Hour 3, the franchise’s most recent film. For that movie, Chan was paid about $20 million, while Tucker made even more.

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 3 New Line Cinema

This news comes amid major changes at Paramount, which is currently in the process of merging with Warner Bros. Discovery for nearly $111 billion. The company is also facing major heat for moving forward with this movie amid Ratner’s reported involvement, even though he continues to deny any misconduct. Even so, given the vocal public support this movie has received from figures like United States President Donald Trump (a close friend of Paramount Skydance Chairman and CEO David Ellison), it appears only a matter of time before the sequel moves forward.

Originally believed to be eying a production start date in Fall 2026, Rush Hour 4 likely will not be able to get cameras rolling until Tucker and Chan are taken care of salary-wise. Certainly, both actors potentially facing this big a pay cut is not likely to be satisfactory, considering they made the Rush Hour trilogy one of the most beloved comedy stories of the 21st century. Negotiations are sure to continue over the coming weeks and months, leaving the sequel’s potential start date up in the air for the foreseeable future.

For the first time in nearly 20

Sega has launched Sega Universe, a new project aimed at bringing its older IP to other mediums.

Using the tagline “no old, stay gold”, the company released a statement in Japan saying it plans to “shine light on classic titles that are still loved by fans, distinct from current titles, and aims to transcend the world of games and deliver new ways to enjoy them”.

According to Sega, the first phase of Sega Universe will involve “anniversary projects” focused on IPs that are celebrating major anniversaries in 2026, with the aim being to deliver “nostalgic yet new entertainment content”.

While it hasn’t announced any specific produced yet, the Sega Universe website has a section called ‘2026 Selected’, which specifically notes that the following nine titles are celebrating big anniversaries this year:

  • Fantasy Zone (40th)
  • Out Run (40th)
  • Streets of Rage (35th)
  • Rent a Hero (35th)
  • Guardian Heroes (30th)
  • NiGHTS Into Dreams (30th)
  • Dynamite Deka (30th)
  • Sakura Wars (30th)
  • SGGG (aka Segagaga) (25th)

It’s not yet clear how Sega plans to mark each of these games –  or indeed whether it specifically plans to mark all nine of them – but the English language version of the website gives an idea of what sort of products Sega is planning.

“Games and characters born in the past,” the site says. “Transcending generations and borders, they continue to live on in the same universe – even today. Beyond games, expanding into film, music, fashion, and even further forms of entertainment.

“While changing form, the experience is constantly updated. Everything created here remains in someone’s memory and is passed on to the next generation.”

Although Sega Universe appears to specifically be focused on transmedia projects rather than new games based on these IPs, Sega has already previously confirmed that a new Streets of Rage game is in development, along with new Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi and Golden Axe games (it also announced a new Shinobi, which is now out).

In 2024 Sega appointed Justin Scarpone as its new global head of transmedia, tasked with taking the success of the Sonic brand outside of video games and replicating it with Sega’s other franchises – such as Persona and Like A Dragon – across film, streaming, TV, live shows, and merchandise.

In an interview with VGC, Scarpone – who previously worked at Disney – hinted at Sega’s plans to revitalise its older, dormant IP through its transmedia strategy.

“I think there’s a core set of IPs that are currently the core pillars of our company,” he explained. “Tou have Sonic and Friends, you have Persona, you have Like a Dragon, and I would also definitely put Angry Birds in that bucket. Also, some of the things we do in Europe are quite interesting, like Football Manager, which is very stable and has a very loyal audience. Creative Assembly has Total War as well.

“So we have these businesses where, over the next five-to-ten years, we have a persistent slate plan, marketing initiatives, product, hopefully more transmedia.

“And then we have what we call the Sega Legacy IP, which is the ones you’re alluding to, that go back to the days when we were in the hardware business: arcade machines, Genesis / Mega Drive, and all that. And this is arguably the most interesting undertaking for transmedia. We just announced recently our plans to make a Shinobi film, and Eternal Champions has come out fairly recently, I believe, as well, as announced. And there are more that we’re working on.

“The interesting thing about that is you have a generation of folks who remember those titles fondly from their childhood or young adulthood, who are in their 40s or 50s. And then you have a younger generation that, frankly, really doesn’t have any connectivity to that IP.

“So, the challenge is, if we try to reinvent these IPs, how do we connect? Which platforms and how do we evolve the lure for these IPs that are lesser known, frankly speaking? And how do we connect with new generations?”
