The Flash movie is set to explore the DC multiverse, yet Barry Allen’s time travel powers in the upcoming movie contradict three DC films. After CW’s The Flash show extensively dealt with how dangerous time travel can be in the DC Universe, The Flash movie will now explore that part of Barry Allen’s mythos on a multiversal scale. While 2023’s The Flash is the first theatrical Flash movie, the DCEU’s Barry Allen has had multiple appearances already.

After making a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, the Flash properly debuted in Justice League, a film that skipped Barry Allen’s origin story. A later cut of the film, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, also known as “the Snyder Cut,” presented an extended look at the Flash, incorporating Iris West and Barry’s time travel powers. Between two previous Justice League cuts and an upcoming DC Universe reset, The Flash has some complicated lore questions to solve.

The Flash’s Time Travel Doesn’t Fit With BvS & Zack Snyder’s Justice League

The first two The Flash movie trailers show Barry Allen going back in time to revisit the day Nora Allen, Barry’s mother, died. The Flash’s official synopsis also confirms that the Flash will go back in time, which is obviously expected to go wrong and set up a Flashpoint-inspired story in which Barry finds himself in a different reality. However, the idea of Barry Allen traveling to the past and interacting with it does not fit with the DCEU’s previous time travel examples – one from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the other from Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

In Batman v Superman, the Flash appears to Bruce Wayne from the future with a warning about Superman. At that moment, Barry Allen appeared from a portal, which, according to director Zack Snyder (via YouTube), was one of two portals opened by future Cyborg. The Flash picked the wrong portal, which is why Barry appears to Bruce Wayne before the Justice League was formed. In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Barry explains that time works differently around him when he achieves a certain speed. Both times the Flash uses “time travel” in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Barry was simply rewinding time rather than traveling through it.

The Flash Movie’s Time Travel May Prove 2017’s Justice League Isn’t Canon

The Flash entering the Speed Force in Justice League Snyder Cut

The Flash movie also seems to be contradicting the theatrical cut of Justice League. Released in 2017, Justice League does not feature time travel. In fact, Barry Allen does not mention time travel at all during 2017’s Justice League. In the Snyder Cut, however, Barry discusses his time travel powers with Bruce Wayne before using them twice during the four-hour cut of Justice League – when activating the Mother Box to resurrect Superman and when fighting Steppenwolf at the end. As far as it has been established, 2017’s Justice League is the canon one. However, one The Flash trailer moment suggests otherwise.

Barry and Bruce discuss the possibility of Barry going back in time to save Nora Allen in The Flash‘s trailer, which would not quite work if Batman wasn’t already aware of the Flash’s time travel powers. Likewise, if the Flash is considering going back in time to change the past, then Barry must be somewhat experienced with his time travel powers already. Should that be the case, then Zack Snyder’s Justice League works as a better The Flash setup than the theatrical cut, which did not incorporate time travel. The Flash’s powers are complicated, and it seems like there are at least three DCEU versions of time travel.

Both companies started by making simple accessories. Now they want to master the complicated ones.

After making a wide variety of cages and camera accessories, SmallRig has moved into lighting and wireless follow-focus units. Viltrox, on the other hand, started with lens adapters and focal reducers before moving on to cinema lenses.

Now, both companies are taking a stab at making a better V-mount battery for your cinema camera with the SmallRig VB mini line and the new Viltrox BV-99.

But do these new tools have enough reliability and features to give filmmakers a reason to switch from trusted brands? Let’s get into it.

Small Rig, Smart Power

The SmallRig VB99 and VB50 mini V-mount batteries came out in July of 2022. To make these new kids on the block attractive to creatives, SmallRig focused on making the battery smart and keeping it compact.

SmallRig’s battery management system (or BMS) chip was designed to take up less space while supporting multiple charging protocols. This includes bi-directional USB-C PD fast charging at a max of 45W for the VB50 and 65W for the VB99.

Marketing jargon aside, you are getting a modern battery with a modern feature setCredit: SmallRig

The SmallRig VB99 is rated at 99Wh, giving you 14.8V and 6.7Ah. The VB50 comes in at 50Wh, with 14.8V and 3.4Ah. Both have one D-Tap port that gives you in and out, with dual DC ports on the bottom giving you 8V and 12V. That’s 24W and 36W, respectively.

Next to that, creatives will also find USB-C and USB Type-A ports for running those small follow focus units or charging their smartphone. To top it all off, you’ll find a nice little screen on the back giving you battery percentages.

The standard size of both batteries is also much smaller than your usual V-Mount fare. According to SmallRig, at least 30% smaller. With how small cameras are getting these days, like the RED Komodo and Z Cam, compact seems to be the way of the future. But if you need more power, you can always go for the VB155, which will give you 155Wh.

Besides the D-Tap and V-Mount connector, these are all the ports you getCredit: SmallRig

From Lens Adapters to Power Delivery

The Viltrox BV-99, on the other hand, only comes in one flavor: 99Wh at 14.8V. Having said that, it has many of the same features (with a little extra) as the SmallRig competition.

A nice little screen on the back gives you all the necessary battery info you’d need, while each side hosts a single D-Tap port, giving you two instead of the one from SmallRig. At the top, you’ll also find a USB-C (with the same PD fast charging feature) and USB Type-A port.

The size is also pretty compact, which is a great fit for smaller cinema cameras, monitors, and lighting tools you may be using.

Same Battery, Different Shell?

With how similar the SmallRig VB99 mini and Viltrox BV-99 are, we wouldn’t blame you if you assumed they’re the same tech but in a different shell. While the components may be similar, if not identical, creatives are getting a different flavor from each company.

What does that even mean? Well, you have different design language and exterior components. Creatives will also get different ports depending on which brand they chose.

But which do you choose? That all depends on your needs.

If you need more D-Tap ports, the Viltrox will be a solid choice.

Need more DC ports or a small Watt-hour? Go for SmallRig.

But are they disruptive? Yeah, a little. For the price that both the SmallRig and Viltrox are going for, you’re getting a few extra ports and quality-of-life features (like the design and screen) that other brands just don’t have. It’s not revolutionary, but it sure gives the competition something to think about.

While these batteries may be attractive on the outside, how they perform on the inside remains to be seen. When it comes to electricity, reliability, safety, and longevity are the cornerstones of a good product. Figuring out how both SmallRig and Viltrox will fare in the long term will take some time. However, we are hearing some good things!

What do you think about these two batteries? Would this be something you’d want in your toolkit?

In the run-up to its Canneseries world premiere, Movistar+ has shared in exclusivity with Variety the international trailer to “The Left Handed Son” (“El hijo zurdo”), the directorial debut of Rafael Cobos, writer of Alberto Rodríguez international hit “Marshland” banner TV series “The Plague.”

Cobos also wrote Rodriguez’s memorable episode in “Offworld,” a market screening at this year’s MipTV.

Movistar+, which produces with José Antonio Félez’s Atipica Films, its partner on “The Plague” and “Prison 1977,” has also announced the release date for “The Left-Handed Son,” whose episodes will all be made available on Movistar+, Spain’s biggest SVOD/pay TV platform, on April 27.

Distribution outside Spain on “The Left-Handed Son” is handled by Movistar+ International.

A six-part short format series, it reps Movistar+’s fourth title at Canneseries in six editions. “The Left Handed Son” delivers a probing, fast-paced psychological thriller which adds further weight to the argument that some of the most interesting scripted work in Spain and Latin America is being carried out in miniseries: Think Pablo Fendrick’s “Amongst Men” and Gustavo Pizzi’s “The Last Days of Gilda.”

It kicks off with Lola, late thirties, receiving a phone-call from the police: Her son, Lorenzo, knocking 18, is being held in custody. When she gets to the police station, she’s told that he’s beaten up a Moroccan kid, nearly killing him. Why? “Because your son’s a skinhead,” an officer tells him.

Lola had no idea. Confronting Lorenzo, her verbal drubbing is met by his sullen hostility. Half way home, he throws himself from her car; she chases him through a park, but he escapes, ignoring her calls.

That scene’s glimpsed in a trailer that nails some of the major questions asked by this intense mother-son relationship thriller,  beginning with how Lola and Lorenzo have become so estranged – as well as teasing some possible answers.

“The first time my mother told me I wasn’t normal, I was six years old. She didn’t like that I was left-handed,” she recalls in an initial trailer voiceover.

One explanation in a series whose psychological good sense consists in offering a broad range of answers is captured by the trailer. Sensing that she doesn’t live up to her mother’s expectations, nor to her own of perfect motherhood, living in a city which literally workshops the perfect mother, Maria, Lola abandons herself to drink.

“Apples don’t fall far from the tree,” Lorenzo says in the trailer, before throwing himself out of the car. An image reflection of his mother  – a link caught literally in a shot of Lola observing him in custody through a glass window – he suffers the same sense of abandonment – “desamparo,” a key word in the series – and turns his fury at her on the world.

“Rafael Cobos is one of the most gifted and talented writers I have ever met. I have been privileged to work with him since ‘The Plague’ and I am very excited to have worked with him again in his first project as director and showrunner, ‘The Left-Handed Son,’ a unique and gripping show, full of emotions and insights on the relationship between a mother and her son, and a new take in his already diverse and original career,” said Domingo Corral, Movistar+ director of original fiction.

“The Left-Handed Son” stars María Leon, who stunned Spain with her first major movie lead performance, in 2011’s “The Sleeping Voice,” winning best actress at the San Sebastián Festival and a Spanish Academy Goya.

Variety chatted to Cobos about “The Left Handed Son” which, despite its short format – most episodes weigh in at 20-25 minutes – is no minor work at all.

”The Left-Handed Son” is described, I think quite rightly, as a psychological thriller. It’s also a story of absent parents – the father who’s abandoned his family to go into politics, the mother who drinks to escape her sense of worthlessness – and the sense of abandonment which this leaves in a son, whose violence becomes a classic call for attention. Or maybe I wrong? But could you comment?

Exactly. It contrasts with my prior screenplays, which were fundamentally based on incidents, events sparked by real events where characters often have to carve out a way forward through small details dissolved in the dramatic action – the indisputable driver which many times comes to signify the plot. Beginning to develop “The Left-Handed Son,” I decided that characters would for me determine events, surprising me, becoming the basic driver of its conflict, and not the other way round. And that, from this starting point, I’d apply the very same tools of tension and rhythm which I’d used in thrillers, injecting them as the story plays out. In other words, I inverted completely my work method, going against myself.

Some of the most interesting recent fiction work in Latin America and Spain, for my money, are being created in the mini-series series format. I sense you wanted to use a shorter format because of the intensity of the story-telling which is often working on multiple levels at one and the same time. But could you comment?

I’ll level up. Yes, I wanted “The Left-Handed Son” to be short format. Because of its impact, concentration, intensity. I’ve always defended narratives that go straight to the point, their core. The editing process, in any case, led to an ever shorter, more frenetic, cut, getting rid of anything that wasn’t fiber. I insist: If I’d been able to go on editing, I would have done. It was as if I was composing a kind of haiku: Diminutive in its form and giant in its meaning.

One thing you bring to the series which is not in the original novel is the music. We can hear snatches of “La Retama,” from Bronquio and Nita, in the teaser. Could you describe your choice of music and how it fits into the narrative?

At first, I only had the music of Julio de la Rosa: Beautiful, lyrical, but underscoring subtext, making it occasionally too obvious. The songs came in to hide this very subtext, lightening the narration and giving it a different texture, another space for the viewer.

15 years after he launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the post-credits scene of “Iron Man,” Samuel L. Jackson will get to take center stage as Nick Fury in the upcoming Disney+ series “Secret Invasion,” which just released a new trailer on Sunday. Disney also announced that the show will premiere on June 21.

As MCU fans saw with “Captain Marvel” in 2019, Nick Fury has had an alien ally for decades in Talos (Ben Mendelson), the leader of a sect of aliens called Skrulls who have taken refuge on Earth after their homeworld was destroyed.

But as seen in the new trailer, that sect is becoming a threat thanks to rogue Skrull named Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who has formed his own group apart from Talos and believes the best way for the Skrulls to survive is to use their shapeshifting powers to infiltrate Earth’s government and take what they need.

Fury would like to think that he has allies to take on this new threat. Along with Talos, the director of SHIELD has his top agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) at his side and Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle), who has put away the War Machine suit since Tony Stark’s death and has become a White House aide.

But with the Skrulls able to deceive everyone into divulging their deepest secrets by disguising themselves, Fury has no idea who to trust.

“Secret Invasion” is rooted in the months-long event series that ran in Marvel Comics in 2008, but which replaces the superheroes of Marvel lore with a political espionage thriller angle reminiscent of “Homeland” or John le Carre’s novels. The series will also star “Game of Thrones” alum Emilia Clarke as Talos’ daughter G’iah and Oscar winner Olivia Colman as top MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth.

Martin Freeman will also appear as former CIA agent Everett K. Ross, who was last seen in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” fleeing his former employers clutches after siding with Wakanda over U.S. interests.

Ali Selim directs the series and executive-produces, along with fellow executive producers Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Ali Selim, Kyle Bradstreet and Brian Tucker. Kyle Bradstreet is also the head writer, and Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein serve as co-executive producers.

“Secret Invasion” hits Disney+ on June 21.

Ed Sheeran dethrones Miley Cyrus on the U.K. singles chart as “Eyes Closed” (Atlantic) sprints to No. 1.

With “Eyes Closed,” the first single lifted from Sheeran’s forthcoming album Subtract, the Englishman lands his 14th best-seller on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, published March 31, and climbs the all-time leaderboard.

In doing so, “Eyes Closed” ends the 10-week reign of “Flowers”. Cyrus’ hit is stopped one week short of equaling Tones And I’s 11-week run with “Dance Monkey,” which remains the longest-running leader by a female solo artist.

Sheeran now equals the 14 career No. 1s accumulated by Cliff Richard and Westlife, slotting into equal third on the all-time list. Only Elvis Presley (with 21) and the Beatles (17) have more U.K. No. 1s, the Official Charts Company reports.

Also, “Eyes Closed” becomes Sheeran’s 41st Official top 10 single, good enough for fifth on the list of all-time top 10 appearances.

After two-and-a-half months, Cyrus’ “Flowers” (Columbia) loses its crown, dipping 1-2. It continues to rack-up a marketing-leading volume of streams, the OCC reports.

Further down the list, rising Afrobeats star Libianca hits a new peak position with “People” (5K), up 5-4, while BTS member Jimin scores a new mark with “Like Crazy” (BigHit Entertainment). It’s new at No. 8, for the first top 10 appearance by a solo member of BTS. “Like Crazy” debuts just a week after Jimin bagged a solo career best by a BTS member with “Set Me Free Pt. 2,’ which arrived at No. 30.

Finally, 22-year U.K. based artist Paris Paloma bags her first appearance on the Official Chart with “Labour” (Nettwerk). The folk ballad, a viral rallying call against misogyny, starts at No. 29.

We have a series.

After losing the first two games of their Ontario Hockey League playoff series, and being outscored 16-5 in the process, the Hamilton Bulldogs skated to a 6-3 victory over the Barrie Colts Sunday night.

The Dogs lost defenceman Florian Xhekaj to a game misconduct five minutes into the game for a check to the head of Barrie’s Brandt Clarke, the OHL’s playoff scoring leader.

Artem Grushnikov had the 3,521 fans at FirstOntario Centre on their feet when he opened the scoring for Hamilton 6:56 into the game and had the hometown crowd celebrating again when he slid the puck down the length of the ice, twice, for empty net insurance markers.

Regal owner Cineworld has entered into a restructuring support agreement and a backstop commitment agreement with lenders that will, if approved, see it emerge from bankruptcy.

The exhibition giant also noted today that it has received non-binding proposals for some or all of the group’s assets but determined that absent an all-cash bid significantly in excess of the value established under the proposed restructuring, it will cease seeking a buyer for its businesses in the U.S., UK and Ireland. The chain will continue to consider the proposals received for its “rest of world” business. A process is underway with the bidders for those holdings to assess whether an acceptable sale transaction can be completed.

If the proposed restructuring is implemented, it is expected to reduce the group chapter 11 companies’ funded indebtedness by approximately $4.53 billion, principally through lenders under the legacy facilities receiving equity in the reorganized group in exchange for the release of their claims.

It would also raise $800 million in aggregate gross proceeds through a fully backstopped equity offering to the so-called “Legacy Lenders” and a direct equity offering to certain of them. The restructuring would further provide $1.46 billion in new debt financing to the group chapter 11 companies upon their emergence from the chapter 11 cases.

The proceeds of the rights offering and the exit facility will be used to, among other things: repay in full the approximately $1.94 billion debtor-in-possession financing facility entered into by the group chapter 11 companies and fund costs associated with the the process and go-forward business operations.

Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinger called the restructuring agreement “a vote of confidence in our business” which “significantly advances Cineworld towards achieving its long-term strategy in a changing entertainment environment. With a growing slate of blockbusters and audiences returning to cinemas in increasing numbers, Cineworld is poised to continue offering moviegoers the most immersive cinema experiences and maintain its position as the ‘Best Place to Watch a Movie’.”

Consistent with the Company’s announcement on February 24, in light of the level of existing debt that is expected to be released under the plan, the proposed restructuring does not provide for any recovery for holders of Cineworld’s existing equity interests.

Cineworld said it expects to emerge from the chapter 11 cases during the first half of 2023, but any sale transaction, among other things, may delay that. The group said it remains committed to emerging from the cases “as expeditiously as possible.” The plan still needs to be approved by the requisite threshold of the chapter 11 companies as well as the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Cineworld filed for bankruptcy last fall in that court.  It has allowed Regal to shutter theaters and renegotiate leases with landlords. Last week, Judge Marvin Isgur said he was sticking with an April 20 date to go over the plan and set May 26 as a confirmation date.

The lenders in question hold and control approximately 83% of the embattled company’s term loans due in 2025 and 2026, and a revolving credit facility due 2023.

Twitter had said it was going to start removing the blue check-marks of legacy verified users starting April 1, so that only people who paid Elon Musk’s company $8 or $11 per month would have the badge going forward.

On Sunday, Twitter did something different: It updated the language in the description of verified users so that now you can’t tell who is paying Musk for the blue check-mark — and who isn’t. The text for both Twitter Blue subscribers and legacy verified accounts now reads, “This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account.”

Previously, the verification badge for those who paid for Twitter Blue had a description that said, “This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue.” In addition, accounts verified under Twitter’s previous regime — as being considered notable and authentic — had formerly said, “This is a legacy verified account. It may or may not be notable,” which was wording Musk boasted he’d come up with himself.

Following the change, some legacy verified Twitter users wanted to make it clear that they aren’t in fact paying for Twitter Blue.

“I just want you all to know that I have never paid Apartheid Elmo $11 for a check, and never will,” tweeted Kahana Cauley, an author and TV writer (“The Daily Show With Trevor Noah”).

Separately, Twitter has launched a program for businesses and organizations to charge $1,000 per month for verification badges (gold for brands, companies and nonprofits; gray for governments), the company will waive that fee for its 500 largest advertising clients and the 10,000 most-followed brands, companies and organizations that have been previously verified (a group that includes Variety‘s Twitter account).

On Sunday, the gold verification badge for the New York Times on Twitter was removed. That came after an exchange on Twitter, in which Musk, replying to someone noting that the publication said it would not pay for verification, say, “Oh ok, we’ll take it off then.” Later Sunday, Musk tweeted, “NY Times is being incredible hypocritical here, as they are super aggressive about forcing everyone to pay their subscription.”

The New York Times reaffirmed Sunday that it is not planning to pay the monthly fee for verification of its institutional Twitter accounts, nor will it reimburse reporters for the verification of personal accounts.

There was no backing down from Marjorie Taylor Greene during her “60 Minutes” interview Sunday night on CBS, as she doubled down on accusing Democrats of being pedophiles and calling the scrutiny on her past comments unfair.

“They are not pedophiles. Why would you say that?” correspondent Lesley Stahl asked.

“Democrats support — even Joe Biden, the president himself — supports children being sexualized and having transgender surgeries. Sexualizing children is what pedophiles do to children,” the Georgia Republican replied.

“Wow. OK,” a visibly taken aback Stahl responded. “But my question really is, can’t you fight for what you believe in without all that name-calling and without the personal attacks?”

Greene answered by turning the question around on the Dems. “I would ask the same question to the other side, because all they’ve done is call me names and insult me non-stop since I’ve been here, Lesley. They call me racist. They call me– sen– antisemitic, which is not true. I’m not calling anyone names. I’m calling out the truth, basically.”

The controversial Congressperson who has promoted far-right conspiracy theories also sidestepped Stahl’s questions about whether she apologized to Nancy Pelosi for liking a comment on her Facebook page saying that the former House speaker should get a “bullet to the head,” something that she claimed was done by someone on her social media team.

“I stand for what’s on my social media. But at times not– you’re not always in control. We have all kinds of people that work on our social media,” she said.

Stahl pressed further, asking her about her claims that the Parkland school shooting was a “false flag.” Greene got heated and denied that she said such things: “No, I’ve never said that. School shootings are horrible. I don’t think it’s anything to joke about.”

But Stahl threw her a curve ball, saying that the “60 Minutes” fact checkers confirmed that she did say that. Greene didn’t like that and lashed out.

“Have you fact-checked all my statements from kindergarten through 12th grade? And in college? And as I’ve paid my taxes, and never broken a law, and the only– I got a few speeding tickets. Do we need to talk about those too,” she said defensively.

Stahl attempted to get a word in, but Greene wouldn’t let her. “I think where you’re going down is the same attacks that people have attacked me with over and over and over. People constantly focus on it, but never focus on anything good about me.”

You can watch the clip for a snippet of the interview.

When the news broke Friday night that “60 Minutes” would be featuring a lengthy interview with the QAnon subscriber, those on social media reacted in a very big way – and most were furious.

“How low you’ve sunk here,” one person tweeted. Another said, “Why are you normalizing & sanitizing hardcore racism & antisemitism for US?”

The full “60 Minutes” interview aired April 2 on the CBS Television Network.

Seymour Stein, the record industry executive who helped shape the sound of 20th century pop music by signing the Ramones, Talking Heads, the Pretenders and Madonna to his Sire label, died on Sunday in Los Angeles. He was 80.

The cause of death was cancer, said his daughter, Mandy Stein.

Stein belonged to a rarefied group of music executives who gained fame on their own accord. His notoriety was so great and lasting that the Scottish indie-pop outfit Belle and Sebastian wrote a song chronicling his attempt to sign them to Sire in 1996, more than 20 years after the label’s golden era began with the release of the first album by punk originators the Ramones in 1975.

Sire released some of the most adventurous music from punk and new wave. Stein brought Talking Heads, a cerebral CBGBs cohort of the Ramones, to Sire in 1976, then expanded the label’s roster with Chrissie Hynde’s swaggering Pretenders and the noir-ish vistas of U.K. post-punk outfit Echo & the Bunnymen.

All other Sire signings were overshadowed by Madonna, a New York-based singer whose stylish dance pop refashioned the sound and appearance of pop in the 1980s. Stein famously signed Madonna while laid up in a hospital bed, and she stuck with the label as she became the biggest pop star in the world.

Stein’s influence extended outside of Sire. While acting as president of the label — he stayed in that position until his retirement in 2018 — he helped co-found the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1983. He was inducted into the institution in 2005.

But before Stein was a mover and shaker, his passion for music helped change the contours of the industry. As an intern at Billboard magazine in 1958, he was part of the team that developed the Hot 100, the chart that became the industry standard. In his 2018 memoir “Siren Song: My Life in Music,” Stein wrote: “My business was turning great music into hit records.”

Seymour Stein, the record industry executive

An Emmy award-winning writer who worked on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has joined the writing team for Deadpool 3.

The Ryan Reynolds-starring and produced Deadpool 3 has already had one writer shake-up on the road to release, having originally recruited Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to pen the script.

The pair would have replaced the writers of the first two movies, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who were eventually reinstated in place of the Bob’s Burgers writers.

Deadpool 3 Recruits She-Hulk Writer

According to Deadline, writer Zeb Wells has been recruited by Ryan Reynolds and Marvel Studios to join franchise mainstays Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese on the script for Deadpool 3.

Wells has already written for the MCU before as a co-writer on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, working only on Episode 7, “The Retreat. He will also now be involved with 2023’s The Marvels and serve as head writer on Marvel Zombies.

The writer holds an Emmy for his work on Robot Chicken and has plenty of history with Marvel as a comic writer for characters such as Spider-Man and the X-Men.

Marvel Studios is Loving Zeb Wells Right Now

Between She-Hulk and Deadpool 3, Zeb Wells will now have worked on two of the MCU’s fourth-wall-breaking projects. Wells’ episode, “The Retreat,” is one of the highest rates episodes of the season and received a fairly positive response from fans at the time as it marked an uptick in quality after a few shaky episodes.

Regardless of one’s own thoughts on the gamma-infused legal comedy, Wells has clearly proven himself to be a talented writer, after all, his work on Robot Chicken has earned him seven Emmy nominations, even including one win. He undeniably has the shrewd comedy skills that Ryan Reynolds looks for to make a meaningful contribution to Deadpool 3.

Marvel Studios is clearly fond of Wells and enjoyed working so far as it is no small thing to see him put on The Marvels and Deadpool 3 writing teams having already been given an episode of She-Hulk and his own show with Marvel Zombies.

It will not be at all surprising if the Robot Chicken writer makes his way onto more MCU movies and series in the not-too-distant future.

Deadpool 3 hits theaters on November 8, 2024.

While its next-generation rocket has yet to fly, that’s not stopping SpaceX from booking Starship flights. On Friday, a startup named Astrolab that it had recently signed an agreement with Elon Musk’s private space firm to reserve a spot on an uncrewed Starship cargo mission that could launch as early as mid-2026. “This is SpaceX’s first commercial cargo contract to the lunar surface,” Jaret Matthews, CEO of Astrolab, , adding his company was one of a few customers involved in the flight.

Astrolab is building a vehicle it hopes will one day carry equipment, supplies and people across the lunar surface. The Flexible Logistics and Exploration (FLEX) rover is about the size of a Jeep Wrangler, making it a bit bigger than NASA’s Perseverance rover on Mars. It also features a robotic arm for assisting with cargo and can travel up to 15 miles per hour. Oh, and FLEX can carry up to two astronauts.

Once it lands on the Moon, Astrolab claims FLEX will become the largest rover to travel the lunar surface. Matthews told The Times Astrolab already has customers waiting to use the rover to carry cargo during the 2026 Starship mission. Looking further to the future, Matthews said FLEX could assist with building a permanent human presence on the Moon and beyond. “Ultimately our goal is to have a fleet of rovers both on the Moon and Mars,” he said. “And I really think I see these vehicles as the catalysts ultimately for the off-Earth economy.”

Like all festival attendees we were

The most terrible thing about the terrible things Logan Roy says about his children–and he has said an enormous number of terrible things both about, and to, his kids over these last four seasons of TV–is that they’re so frequently, terribly, true. Logan may be, as Shiv accuses him during the Roy family reunion that serves as the ugly heart of tonight’s Succession, a “human gaslight.” But when he tells his kids, “I love you, but you’re not serious people”? Well, it’s hard to call bullshit on that.

That statement may, in fact, be the one really true thing Logan says during this entire hour of TV, which spends so much of its run-time watching him baldly speak reality into existence simply to suit his whims. (Interesting that I called that out as a go-to Shiv move last week, as she not-inaccurately accuses the old man of mastery of the form tonight.) The Logan Roy magic trick can be a loud one, as when he steps up onto a couple of boxes of printer paper on the ATN hanger floor and turns a bunch of snickering eye-rollers into battle-crazed minions, ready to die for their king. And it can be near-silent, as he maneuvers his “assistant” Kerry into, and then right back out of, an anchor job at the network, with little more than a few non-committal murmurs and pointed looks in Tom’s flop-sweating direction.

But it’s never more impressive than when it’s aimed at his kids, who know every trick in the Logan Roy playbook, but who still feel the tugs on the strings that he’s spent their whole lives jamming into their backs. Each kid dances to Logan’s tactically deployed “truths” in a different way: Connor demurs. Kendall hits back. Shiv marshals her counter-evidence. And Roman? Poor Roman, the true believer, the last acolyte of the utterly fucked idea that there is something meaningful called “the Roy family” left to save? Rome listens.

But, whoops, we’re perilously close to jumping to the end of the story here. Let’s rewind, back to the start of “Rehearsal.” We’re now just a day out from the sale of Waystar Royco to GoJo, and everyone involved is a different kind of antsy. For Logan, that means stalking around the floor at ATN–which is about to enjoy the “benefits” of being the sole object of its owner’s obsessions–like “if Santa Claus was a hitman,” in the words of an extra-preppy. extra funny tonight Greg. For the kids, it means spitballing plans for their Pierce acquisition. (They’re awful, by the way; Succession remains beautifully committed to never suggesting that any of the Roy kids are secret geniuses being unfairly held back from greatness.) For everybody, it involves blowing off steam watching Kerry’s horrifying ATN audition tape, as Zoe Winters makes a strong case for herself as an early frontrunner for the season’s comedy MVP. (The hands! Can’t unsee the hands.) And for Sandi and Stewie, it means trying to talk The Kids into tossing one last “Fuck you” at their old man, in the form of trying to force him to renegotiate the Waystar sales price a little higher with “the Swede.”

It’s that last gambit that puts the first serious nail in the coffin of The Kids Alliance–not because Roman is so concerned that Lukas Mattson will walk from the deal if he gets some pushback, but because it reveals what everyone’s real motivations here actually are. For Shiv and Kendall–especially Kendall–the billions of dollars in the balance are seemingly incidental to the joys of sticking a finger in their dad’s eye, of wresting a little bit of control back from the bullies eternally hanging over their lives. For Logan, it’s about control, too–other people have it, he wants it, so it’s time to deploy that expletive-ready silver tongue. But for Roman, the idea that Logan (via Kerry) floats in that gaudy karaoke room–and where better to roll out a performance operating at constantly fluctuating levels of fakeness?–is obviously seductive. What if their family, and the multi-billion dollar business that’s consumed it for his entire life, weren’t actually synonymous anymore? What if there was an actual clean break that could possibly repair the divide?

Succession

It’s a human impulse–but also a deluded one, because Rome can’t perceive that Shiv and Kendall will never trust their father again. Their maneuverings are no longer about carving out a space where Logan is forced to respect them as equals; they’re just about hitting him where it hurts. (Which is, ironically, a position Logan might actually respect.) Shiv’s hurts are fresher, exacerbated this week by Logan loaning Tom one of his classic divorce moves, adding extra “divorcing my dad” subtext to an already fraught situation. And Kendall?

Well, Kendall’s the tricky one, isn’t he? For the first half of “Rehearsal,” Kendall seems completely on board with the original plan, letting the sale go through, moving on to creating his god-awful cable news shows on Pierce. But then he takes a call from Mattson–Alexander Skarsgård’s welcome first appearance in the season–and something shifts. It’s a hard moment to read: Does Kendall sense weakness in Mattson’s attempt to steamroll the nascent rebellion? Does the Swedish bullying kick him into oppositional defiance? Or does he simply realize that the sudden ability to tank the sale gives him the chance to do what he really wants to do: Fuck his dad, well and truly, and in a way that will actually stick? The fact that Kendall doesn’t tell his siblings about Mattson’s call underlines the fact that there’s something ugly bubbling up to motivate the turn here; in trying to analyze it, I keep coming back to that “I need something super-fucking absorbing in my life” comment he made last week. We haven’t seen that smile on Jeremy Strong’s face—the one he flashes on the car ride home tonight, the one that will never, ever reach his eyes—in a minute. It never bodes especially well.

And, damn it, we’ve found ourselves back at those final scenes again, haven’t we? Swept up in the seismic pull of five Roys in a room together, carving flesh off each other as efficiently as they can. But that unfairly skips over huge swathes of tonight’s episode, which is also one of the funniest in recent memory, as Tom and Greg attempt to navigate the horrorshow of Logan’s personal attention resting on ATN, and the Roy kids take Connor out for a night in “real America,” after Willa freaks out over the whole “marrying a man she doesn’t love” thing at their unseen trainwreck of a wedding rehearsal. That’s to say nothing of the smaller comedy setups that dot the episode: Hugo and Gerri getting caught mocking Kerry’s tape; watching the shit roll downhill to Greg as he’s forced to be the one to break the news to Logan’s right-hand lady that she won’t be becoming a national TV star. This is vintage Succession-as-comedy…it’s just lurking in the margins surrounding some absolutely killer Succession-as-drama.

Succession

Succession

Because it all comes back to Roman, really. You can even watch the moment when it all breaks down, written plain as day on Kieran Culkin’s face. It’s in the bar, before Logan even shows up to work his magic: Kendall and Shiv are taking turns tearing Rome down, attacking his instincts on the Mattson deal. And then the “Fuck this” just blooms on him, his face hardening into something wounded and angry, just like it did all those times their dad did this exact same shit to him. That’s when they lose him, and they don’t even notice; the rest is really just a formality.

Pretty fuckin’ good formality, though: Succession plays very sparingly with getting as much of its cast in the room together as it does here, and the result is typically impressive. Lit in gaudy purple karaoke parlor light, we have Brian Cox playing Logan playing humble, eyes wide and “vulnerable”—after he spent the opening span of the episode hiding them with sunglasses—offering apologies to his kids as though they were line items in a contract. (And is there a more Logan move than creating a slight—in this case, canceling the kids’ use of a company helicopter on their way to Connor’s rehearsal—just so that he has an easy item to apologize for later?) Roman, anxious for reconciliation; Shiv, open and raw; Kendall, perched above it all, just trying to extract some pain. It all builds, after every failed probe, to that “serious people” comment; Logan unable to see his own part in creating kids who can only feel anything about a multi-billion dollar business deal in terms of what it means about their relationship with daddy. Rome’s the only one still formally vying for that fabled kiss, and so he’s the one who ultimately breaks: Slipping off to Logan’s place afterwards to entertain offers of betrayal that come in the seductive language of need.

Let’s actually finish with Connor, though—poor, despicable Connor—as Alan Ruck gives one of his best performances of his entire lovely, ever out-of-focus tenure on this show. Partly because his last monologue tonight is just perfectly awful, and partly because it nails his, and his sibling’s, pathologies, pretty much to the bone. “The good thing about having a family who doesn’t love you,” he starts, honesty and self-pity mingling in his voice, “is that you learn to live without it. You’re all chasing after Dad, saying, ‘Love me, please love me, I need love, I need attention.’” Shiv, lying to everybody, including herself, tries to deny, tries to claim that what she and Kendall are doing is somehow the opposite of that, but Connor just rolls: “You’re needy love sponges. And I’m a plant that grows on rocks, and lives off insects that die inside of me. If Willa doesn’t come back, that’s fine. Because I don’t need love; it’s like a superpower. And if she comes back, and doesn’t love me, that’s okay, too. Because I don’t need it.”

“Thanks for the party.”

Stray observations

  • The murder face Sarah Snook ends the cold open on, once Shiv realizes that Tom’s screwed her over on the divorce attorneys, is really a thing of wonder. Snook never stops using that rage for one second of the rest of the episode.
  • Greg, describing Logan’s stalking of the ATN news floor, in some of the funniest writing/deliveries of the episode: “I don’t know, he’s…moseying. Terrifyingly moseying…It’s like Jaws, if everyone in Jaws worked for Jaws.”
  • I, for one, was not familiar with the Stakhanovites, Soviet socialist workers with a focus on hard work and efficiency. Thanks, Succession: You make learning fun!
  • Jess Watch: Would Jess watch Kendall’s awful international news programming ideas? “Uh, if it was on…totally.”
  • The Kerry audition tape is the comedic gift that keeps on giving. Kendall: “She is doing…the shit…out of this news.”
  • We’ve seen god knows how many different shades of Manipulative Logan over the years, but his speech to the ATN workers is a flavor we rarely get. You can see it hit the workers, but it’s hardly necessary: As Cox ramps up into it, it’s hard not to get swept up in the spirit. “You’re fucking pirates!”
  • Everything about Connor and Willa’s rehearsal is weird, of course, but for some reason, the strangest detail for me is Willa’s mom being there.
  • “We can drink, right? A little bachelor party for…POTUS scrotus?”
  • Connor’s request for a bachelor party venue: “A real bar, with chicks. And guys who work with their hands, and grease, and sweat from their hands, and have blood in their hair.” Roman: “I don’t like these guys. They sound like a medical experiment gone wrong.”
  • All of the Roy kids’ drink orders at the bar are deliberately obnoxious, but Shiv’s “The house red, do I dare?” actually manages to out-pretentious Connor’s Belgian weissbier.
  • I love that Roman “being nice” to Connor just means saying the same horrible things, but in a slightly nicer tone. “I’m not saying your cum, I’m sure your cum is very washable…”
  • The other big reveal tonight: Roman’s been texting with Logan ever since the birthday party. “It’s dick pics, anyway, he’s got a real taste for them now.”
  • On second watch, it becomes clearer than Roman was probably angling for some kind of reconciliation with Logan all night; it’s why he leaks the details of the kids’ wobbling to Connor, and there are moments when he’s clearly prompting Logan to give the apologies Rome thinks might heal the rifts with Ken and Shiv. He really does want to fix it, poor kid.
  • “Stop ganging up on me like you’re Lennon and McCartney, and I’m fuckin’ George. I’m John, motherfuckers. *points to Shiv and Kendall* Ringo. Yoko… He’s still Connor, but he won having drinks with us at an auction.”
  • It’s always fascinating to see the expressions Logan makes when his kids actually score some leverage on him. “They’ve got some juice.”
  • Connor, getting his karaoke dreams: “You think they have ‘Desperado’ by The Eagles?” (He ends up doing Leonard Cohen’s “Famous Blue Raincoat” instead, dialing deep into his infidelity fears.)
  • Shiv and Kendall, to Kerry about her ATN gig: “Has he fucked you on that?”
“That’ll happen, the fucking. But congratulations on losing your betrayal cherry.”
  • This is, I think, the first time we get someone outright saying Logan hit Roman when he was kid, after years of implications. Roman’s heartbreaking response: “Oh, no, I mean…everyone hit me. I was fucking annoying.”
  • Next week: The wedding of Connor Roy and Willa Ferreyra. Because what’s ever gone wrong at a Roy family wedding, right?

The most terrible thing about the terrible

The bond between siblings has been a longtime fascination for film and television shows, leading to some of the most famous brother and sister duos in film and television history. Those who think romance is the pinnacle of an interesting relationship will be surprised to know that some of the most memorable character bonds are between siblings. Popular shows like Supernatural have a brother duo as their main characters, and one of Disney’s biggest hits, Frozen, is all about the love between sisters rather than a princess and prince finding each other.

Besides brother and brother and sister with sister duos, though, there are also very memorable brother and sister characters. The relationships between a brother and sister are always very different from what same-gender sibling relationships provide, and that can lead to some unique storylines within television or movies. Whether it’s being as protective as possible or having characters who wind each other up, there is something very funny and relatable about the most famous brother and sister or sibling duos, and it’s led to tons of great team-ups from movie and TV history.

15 Luke And Leia From Star Wars

Luke and Leia from the Star Wars franchise are both intergalactic rebels that the world of movies and pop culture will never forget. One of the most famous brother and sister duos in the history of film, they are also known for having a romantic relationship before finding out they were related. Not only are they brother and sister, but they are twins. Twins have always been a huge subject of fascination, making Leia and Luke all the more iconic. As one of the best sets of movie twins, Luke and Leia’s team-up is something for the history book as they both were integral to the success of the rebellion.

14 Mabel And Dipper From Gravity Falls

Mabel and Dipper look on in terror in Gravity Falls

Another famous brother and sister duo are twins Dipper and Mabel, who won the hearts of many fans when Gravity Falls was released in 2012. The two of them are living with their great uncle Stan over the summer, and see a lot of what makes the show special through the family interactions. Dipper is the more serious and ambitious one who is trying to unlock the secrets of the town while Mabel is incredibly outgoing, silly, and fun. Sibling relationships are a big part of the show, so their connection and trust in each other are often explored.

13 Ron And Ginny Weasley From Harry Potter

Harry, Ron, and Ginny sharing a plate of pumpkin pasties at Christmas

The Harry Potter franchise plays host to quite a few excellent siblings, two of which are from the Weasley family. However, there is something special about the relationship between the famous brother and sister duo Ron and Ginny. Some of the most likable of the Weasley siblings, they go through a lot together, with many of those moments being quite difficult, yet they always come out on the other side even stronger.

They’re a classic brother and sister duo in the fact that they are able to wind each other up, but then also be very caring. It’s the type of relationship where they can mock each other, but nobody else can hurt them, or else they will become defensive, which is great to see.

12 Max And Dani From Hocus Pocus

Max And Dani Dennison Hocus Pocus

Max and Dani are a famous brother and sister team with a wider age gap than a lot of the others, but that is part of what makes them so interesting in their dynamic. Max is a teenager who wants to do teen activities, and that causes friction with his little sister, Dani, who wants him to take her trick or treating. However, their sibling bond is put to the test by three witches, but it’s more than strong enough to survive. Had Dani and Max not fought over Halloween activities, the Sanderson sisters never would’ve been brought back, and Hocus Pocus wouldn’t have happened.

11 Klaus And Violet From A Series of Unfortunate Events

Violet and Klaus A Series of Unfortunate Events

A Series of Unfortunate Events is a movie, show, and book series about the strength of a family overcoming hardships together. However, the parents are dead, and the three siblings have to depend on each other. The older ones are Klaus and Violet, and this famous brother and sister relationship is the most prominent in the series. They are always together and have a very healthy sibling relationship built on trust and teamwork. Having each other is probably the least unfortunate thing in their lives. They also both have to act as parents to their youngest sibling, Sunny.

10 Phineas And Candace Flynn From Phineas & Ferb

Candace is stuck in a virtual world as Phineas, Ferb and friends look on.

This is one of the most fun siblings in television history, with the famous brother and sister duo Phineas and Candace constantly winding each other up and frustrating the other to the point of annoyance. Candace is desperate to catch out her brother and his inventions, telling him off to their parents, and seeing her fail each time, leading to some of the best Phineas and Ferb episodes, is always hilarious. However, even though they do annoy each other and push each other’s buttons, they can be kind and caring towards each other when they need to be, just like any great set of siblings.

9 Dwayne And Olive From Little Miss Sunshine

The family sitting at a diner in Little Miss Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine is a very heartfelt film about family and being yourself. The youngest, Olive, wants to win a Little Miss Sunshine child pageantry contest, and the family band together to get her there, so she can have her dream come true. However, it is slowly revealed that while everyone in the family is ambitious and has dreams, none of them get what they want because society is just one big beauty contest that they are all losers in.

The brother, Dwayne, hates his family and does not even say a word for the first half of the film until he has a breakdown when he realizes he is colorblind and can never go to the Air Force Academy. The only person who could console him is Olive, his sister. Later on, he defends Olive and even dances silly with her when people at the beauty contest start to boo her. They are certainly an example of one of the sweetest famous brother and sister relationships in movies.

8 Jon Snow & Arya Stark From Game Of Thrones

Jon and Arya hugging on Game of Thrones

There’s a lot of famous brother and sister relationships within Game of Thrones, with one, in particular, standing out for being a little too close. However, the bond between Jon Snow and Arya Stark really is the most fun to watch throughout, and the two have some of the best sibling quotes on Game of Thrones.

They might spend most of the show split apart, but anytime they hear about the other, their faces light up, plus, the moment they finally meet again is one of the very best in the series. Their reactions showcase the shock of each other still being alive, and the sheer love that they have, even if they’re not proper siblings. Many families are split and different nowadays, and that’s what makes this relationship a special one.

7 Shuri And T’Challa From Black Panther

T'Challah and Shuri standing together in Black Panther

Shuri and T’Challa from Black Panther are great characters for a lot of individual reasons. Shuri is a relatable teenager before coming into her own as the new Black Panther, incredibly smart, can fight, helps those in need, and defies a lot of stereotypes. T’Challa was modest, fought for what he loved, was merciful, and had an open mind. Together, the famous brother and sister duo were an amazing team thanks to the chemistry between Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright. Together they joked, they laughed, and they were just the kind of relatable characters that many real-life siblings identified with.

6 Nick And Margo Dunne From Gone Girl

Nick and Margot talking to each other at the bar in Gone Girl

The famous brother and sister bond in Gone Girl is one of the strongest that has ever been shown in film and television. The bond that Nick and Margo have is incredibly close, and the love and trust they have for each other is obvious, with Margo being one of the few people that actually believes her brother. She’s committed to helping clear his name as much as humanly possible, and she goes to great lengths to do so. The seriousness of the film doesn’t really get to showcase the funnier side that their relationship might have, but the love between them is clear.

5 Bart and Lisa Simpson From The Simpsons

Sideshow Bob holds up Lisa and Bart in The Simpsons

The Simpsons and all of its seasons are known as one of the best shows of the 20th century, so of course, the main kid characters, Bart and Lisa, are one of the most famous brother and sister duos in the world of television. They are not exactly opposites in terms of personality, but they are pretty different and butt heads a lot in the show.

Bart is a mischievous rebel with sharp wit and often disrespects authority while Lisa is incredibly intelligent and politically aware and liberal. The two often fight like a brother and sister are expected to, but always end up accepting each other in the end. Also, “Bart” was Lisa’s first word, which shows the strong bond they really have.

4 Wednesday and Pugsley Addams From The Addams Family

Jenna Ortega; Luis Guzman; Catherine Zeta Jones; Isaac Ordonez as Addams Family

While the famous brother and sister duo Wednesday and Pugsley are often depicted as having a strong sibling rivalry, they share a lot of interests. Like most of the family, they like the macabre and share a love of dangerous objects. In addition, Wednesday has proven that she more than cares for her brother’s well-being after sending a school of piranhas after the swim team jock who was caught bullying him in Wednesday.

The Addams family is like no other, so they really only have each other to play with when it comes to these unusual interests. It goes to show that even if society does not accept you, a great family with a similar sibling can make all the difference. Thanks to Wednesday, the Addams family’s daughter has proven she can stand on her own as a strong female character, but her relationship with Pugsley is nonetheless important.

3 Ross And Monica Geller From Friends

Friends Ross and Monica perform the routine

Friends is one of the most iconic television shows of all time, and the closeness of the lead characters is a big reason for that. The famous brother and sister duo have a very tight bond, sharing all their free time together, and one of the most special relationships within that group is with Ross and Monica.

The brother and sister are most like best friends at points, and it is very heart-warming to see some of the best episodes about the Ross and Monica dynamic. They share the ups and downs together and are always on hand to pick each other up, all while having the classic back-and-forth arguments that are expected from siblings.

2 Katara And Sokka From Avatar The Last Airbender

Avatar The Last Airbender's Katara and Sokka discovering Aang in ice

Avatar: The Last Airbender has been known as one of the greatest cartoons on American television, if not just plain one of the best shows. It explores a ton, from eastern philosophy to overcoming your past and the expectations of others. Katara and Sokka are the famous brother and sister team that adventure together with Aang, the last airbender. They are both pretty different, with Sokka being cynical and often more of the comedic character and Katara being a waterbender with a lot of faith in their cause. Despite those differences, they stick together and support each other through a lot of hardship.

1 Deedee And Dexter From Dexter’s Laboratory

Dee Dee winking at Dexter in Dexter's Laboratory

Out of all the famous brother and sister teams, it is Deedee and Dexter from one of the most nostalgic ’90s Cartoon Network shows who are the most different from each other. One is a goofy, mischievous, and obnoxious teenager, while the other is a genius who just wants to get work done. They are also the most comedic due to how different they are, often with Dexter having to chase his sister out of his laboratory so that she does not destroy everything. Those with siblings can definitely understand the struggle of just wanting a bit of privacy sometimes.

Tonya Mosley’s Truth Be Told podcast, which explores Black liberation through multiple lenses, has struck a deal with APM Studios that will include the production of a new limited series with Mosley debuting in 2024.

The podcast was originally produced and distributed by KQED before Mosley, an Emmy-winning broadcast journalist and regular interviewer on NPR’s Fresh Air, took the show independent. Now, APM Studios — the podcasting arm of American Public Media — will handle ad sales, marketing and distribution for Truth Be Told.

“Tonya Mosley is one of the most talented hosts in media and we’re beyond excited to work with her at APM Studios,” Joanne Griffith, APM Studios’ chief content officer, said. “As the industry moves towards telling more nuanced stories of Black America and other people of color, Tonya is already leading the way with ‘Truth Be Told’ and we look forward to building on this together.”

Truth Be Told will return for its fifth season, which explores psychedelics and how they’ve been used to heal people of color suffering from PTSD, on April 13. The latest season will have six episodes releasing on a weekly basis.

Season four, which released last May, covered the Black body through topics like diet culture, reproductive health and bodily autonomy. Guests included #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, Feed Our Soul founder Adrienne Wilson and chef Kristi Brown, among others.

“As a mission-driven journalist, I am tremendously honored to be in partnership with APM,” Mosley said. “Joanne and her team take seriously the importance of nuanced storytelling that captures the richness and beauty of the Black diaspora and beyond.”

Conventional wisdom goes that when somebody says “It’s not about the money,” it’s all about the money. After exploring that concept in the first episode of “Succession” Season 4, the HBO series looked the other way in Episode 2, “Rehearsal.” Throughout the hour, the trio of Roy children gone rogue – Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) – debate whether they should join some other contentious Waystar board members in blocking dad Logan’s (Brian Cox) sale of his media empire to Swedish internet gazillionaire Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård).

They state repeatedly that it’s just a play to get more money for the family business. True as far as that goes. Yet Shiv and Ken, especially, seem to relish every opportunity it gives them to stick it to the old man. This fight is over a lot more than the money.

Nothing More Than Feelings

The episode opens with Logan’s “friend, assistant and advisor” Kerry (Zoe Winters) asking how he’s feeling as they leave his building for ATN, the Fox-like news network he’s retaining after the sale of Waystar’s other assets to Matsson’s GoJo.

“Why does everyone ask how I’m feeling?” he laments. “I’m selling. My decision. I’m feeling great. And yes, axe that chopper. They can f—n’ walk.”

That would be the chartered helicopter Kendall, Shiv and Roman were planning to take from Upstate New York to their half-brother Connor’s wedding rehearsal in the city. At their luxury lakeside cabin, the kids watch incredibly boring shows on the Pierce Global News network they’ve just committed to overpaying to buy.

“A show about politics called ‘Inside Baseball,” Kendall complains. “How f-ing confusing is that?” He then suggests new programs about current events in Sub-Saharan Africa.

“That sounds like ‘Homework: The Show,’” Shiv, apparently recovered from what was probably her last, sad night with her husband Tom, snipes with bullseye accuracy. Then her assistant calls to inform Shiv that Tom has conflicted-out all of the top divorce lawyers in Manhattan from taking her on as a client, a trick Logan used on her mother.

In the city, Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) confirms with his assistant that this has indeed been done. As he gets into a car, Greg (Nicholas Braun) calls to warn him that Logan is at ATN.

“He’s on the floor, Tom,” Greg reports like an unarmed army scout. “Moseying. Terrifyingly moseying. He’s wearing sunglasses inside. It looks as if Santa Claus was a hit man.”

Shiv phones and berates Tom as he runs back upstairs. The term “bitch boy” is applied. When Greg sees Tom, he tells him, “It’s like ‘Jaws,’ if everyone in ‘Jaws’ worked for Jaws.” Tom says once the Waystar sale goes through, Logan will be there all the time, “Hangin’ around. Like the threat of nuclear war.”

Tom and another ATN honcho, Cyd (Jeannie Berlin), approach Logan, who stops complaining about everything to ask them what they thought of Kerry’s anchor audition tape. Both underlings lie that the boss’ girlfriend has really got something. Logan says he’s keeping out of the decision to give her a shot, leaving it to the two geniuses.

Back Upstate, the kids watch the tape and make fun of Kerry’s every awkward delivery.

“Must act natural to fool the humans,” Roman jokes in robotic cadence, then laments, “Tomorrow he selling the empire to a 4Chan Swede and dishin’ out jobs for blowies.”

Shiv makes a furtive call to Sandi Furness (Hope Davis), member of another rival media family that hates Logan but has seats on Waystar’s board. She’s interested in delaying the sale unless Matsson coughs up more dough.

Pirate Time

At ATN, boxes of Hammermill paper are arranged as a makeshift stage for Logan to address the troops. Tom introduces the boss by crowing about the network’s 15% revenue increase. Logan asks a frightened young staffer if that’s good against a 40% uptick in costs. After some thought, the lad says no.

“No! Good. Good head for numbers!” Logan praises/derides.

Then, fire-breathing as only Cox (or perhaps Mussolini) could, Logan launches into a pep talk about how the new ATN will cut the throats of the competition and promises/threatens to be around the newsroom a lot more.

“This is not the end,” he inveighs. “I’m gonna build something better. Something faster, lighter, meaner, wilder. And I’m going to do it from in here. With you lot! You’re f-ing pirates!”

Applause all around. Logan smiles and chuckles.

Upstate, the helicopter indeed takes off without the kids onboard, forcing them to seek slower transport to the city.

In an ATN conference room, execs Hugo and Gerri are laughing at Kerry’s audition tape on a laptop when Logan marches in early. Startled, Hugo closes the computer. Logan is informed that Matsson wants a photo op with him; the old man doesn’t want to be seen shaking hands with him.

Asked to put his presentation on a wall-mounted monitor, Hugo reluctantly opens his laptop; a brief shot of Kerry flashes on the screen for all to see before he quickly switches to graphics.

More angry about Matsson than Kerry, Logan storms out – but mentions he’s concerned about the board and tells Hugo to put his lipstick on to suck off an independent director.

It’s dark and the kids arrive late outside the wedding rehearsal building, Sandi and another board member, Stewy Hosseini (Arian Moayed), are waiting on the street. Not an ambush, they just want to do five in person, get the three Roys to vote no at tomorrow’s board meeting and squeeze more money from the Swede. The siblings have a couple of hours to choose sides.

“So it’s either we vote yes tomorrow and we all make billions of dollars or we sign up for your cool s–t and then Dad disinherits us entirely,” Roman sarcastically sums up. “That sounds like a toughie. We’ll think about it, thanks.”

She’s Gone?

Inside the rehearsal building, folks are leaving and a drunk bride-to-be, Willa (Justine Lupe), staggers down the staircase in a white pantsuit. “I’m just going for a little drink,” she tells the siblings, though the rehearsal’s not over. “You can’t be jumpin’ for joy the whole time, right?”

“Fairy tale wedding,” Shiv shrugs after Willa leaves.

Up in the emptying ballroom, Connor (Alan Ruck) is drinking alone at a big round table. Shiv apologizes for arriving late “Dad screwed us.” Hugs.

“Look at you.,” Connor tells the trio. “The Rebel Alliance. Willa stood up to do her speech and she said, ‘I can’t do this.’ And she went to the bathroom for 45 minutes with her so-called friends.”

Connor, whose life is one of wealthy isolation, wants to try karaoke, or at least go drink somewhere else with his half-siblings.

“Somewhere fun,” he suggests. “And real. Away from the fancy dance. A real bar with chicks. And guys who work with their hands and grease and sweat from their hands and have blood in their hair.”

“I don’t like these guys,” Roman grumbles. “They sound like a medical experiment gone wrong.”

At a not-too-divey bar. Man of the people Connor tells Kendall to order for him. “I’ll just have whatever a regular Joe would have,” he tells his brother while trying to track Willa’s whereabouts on a phone app.

“Just a Belgian weissbier, not Hoegaarden,” getting both the proletariat appeal wrong and confusing the Flemish and German names for the style.

Kendall goes out back and halfway down a subway entrance to take a call from Lukas. He threatens the kids not to push for more money or else he’ll walk.

“This is not aggressive. I’m told that sometimes when I’m direct, it can code aggressive,” the Swede says aggressively. Seconds after hanging up, Ken texts Stewy.

In an ATN conference room, Tom coerces and cajoles Greg into being the one who has to break the bad news to Kerry.

“This is an incredibly delicate piece of diplomacy, Greg,” he explains. “It’s like Israel-Palestine, except harder and much more important.”

In a rare display of intelligence, Greg says he doesn’t want to do it. Tom tells him it’s one of the “next level tasks” Greg’s been wanting, gives him some stupid talking points, and emphasizes keeping his and Logan’s name out of the audition rejection.

Shiv, Ken and Roman talk business around a bar table while Connor listens in. It’s discovered that Roman texted birthday greetings to Dad; the other two feel betrayed. They guilt him into going along with their no votes at the board meeting. Connor’s upset that they’re ruining his night and demands to go to karaoke.

Greg gets Kerry alone in a conference room. “I wanted to give you heads up, on the down low, on what the murmurs are . . .”

She gathers Tom doesn’t think she’s ready to anchor. Greg blames it on a focus group.

“They focus-grouped me?” Kerry spits with growing outrage. She wants details of the criticism, which Greg of course doesn’t have.

“If this focus group isn’t real, I’m gonna take you apart like a human string cheese,” she promises before storming out.

Alone, Greg tells himself he did the job.

Kerry walks into another conference room, where Logan and Gerri tell her Connor just informed them about his siblings’ plans. Logan acknowledges they have some f—in’ juice.

Desperados

The younger Roys are in a luxury karaoke room at the back of a Japanese restaurant. “Think they have ‘Desperado’ by The Eagles?” Connor asks. “I would imagine they do,” Roman winces. “Longest night of my life.”

Then Connor gets a phone message, announces Dad’s on his way, and declares more than confesses that he told Logan what the others are up to.

“I want my father to be at my wedding,” Connor rationalizes.

“You mean you want the money,” Shiv retorts.

Connor is butchering Leonard Cohen’s “Famous Blue Raincoat” while Logan, Kerry and bodyguard Colin march through the restaurant.

“This is Guantanamo-level s—t,” Roman grouses (it’s the season’s second reference to the notorious prison; will they go for one in each episode?). “I think I’d like to hear ‘Desperado.’ Please?”

Once Logan and Kerry settle in the lavendar-lit karaoke room, the father says he was sad his younger children didn’t come to his birthday party.

“It’s like a f-in’ telenovela,” Kendall sneers, then proceeds, with assistance from Shiv, to confront Logan about his history of bad parenting. Connor and Roman meekly protest their issues with Logan getting thrown in there.

“Look, I don’t do apologies,” Logan responds, somewhat sincerely. “But if it means so much to you, then [long pause] sorry.”

“There’s nothing you could say to me now that I would ever believe,” Shiv shoots back.

It being about the money, Logan then tries to convince them that the GoJo deal is good and they should back it. Shiv says they want more money, speaking for them all.

“Oh Jesus,” Logan says, rubbing his brow in genuine frustration. “You’re such f—ing dopes. You are not serious figures. I love you, but you are not serious people.”

He and Kerry leave. On the sidewalk, he spots a man rummaging through a trash can.

“This city,” he muses in despair. “The rats are as fat as skunks. They hardly care to run anymore. I don’t know. I don’t f—ing know.”

Logan tells Kerry to cancel the next day’s board meeting and gives her a list of executives he wants to accompany him to Sweden instead.

Back in the karaoke room, Shiv takes a drink and asks, “So, how was it for you? F—ing Dad?”

“Amazing,” Ken enthuses. “Just over too soon. I coulda kept going.”

Connor says he’s going home. Shiv tells him she’s sure Willa will be in touch.

“You know what?” Connor says. “It’s fine. The good thing about having a family that doesn’t love you is that you learn to live without it.”

Calling his siblings needy love sponges, Connor adds, with eyes wide like a crazy person or a libertarian, “And I’m a plant that grows on rocks and lives off insects that die inside of me!”

Back in their hotel suite, though, Willa’s in bed. Connor climbs on top of the covers, his suit and shoes still on. They clasp hands, spoon.

Are there going to be significant mattress configurations at the end of every episode this season?

Later, Roman comes to Logan’s penthouse. He apologizes for the karaoke room.

“Oh, we know what they’re like,” Logan says with rare jollity.

Logan asks Roman to come to Sweden with him the next day, though that means missing Connor’s wedding.

“There’s a night of the long knives coming,” Father tells Son. “Cyd’s toast, I’m reinventing ATN. I need a firebreather, a ruthless f— who’ll do whatever it takes.”

Roman contemplates the job offer as Logan looks on with a s—t-eating grin.

Best One-Liner:

While Kendall is berating Logan in the karaoke room, he brings up their father hitting brother Roman as a child. Roman, whose mouth has been particularly vicious (even for him) throughout the entire episode, not only comes to his father’s defense but flashes remarkable self-awareness:

“Oh, no! I mean, everyone hit me. I’m f—in’ annoying.”

Stray Observations

Logan may be human after all. Or is his sadness over three of his children’s estrangement, his weary distress about everything changing for the worse and a few glints of genuine-seeming happiness in this episode just cover for nasty machinations?

Whatever is going on between Connor and Willa, was tonight’s supposed runaway bride business just a cover for the eldest Roy to eavesdrop on his rebellious siblings, so he could rat out their plans to their father?

Whose side is Roman really on? Could it be both? Is he really just a softie who wants to get along with everybody?

Until next week…

“The original central character was Michaela, but over time, Ben — and by extension, his wife and kids — became the central character.

The writers didn’t think it through. Michaela’s love interest had to cheat on his wife, who was Michaela’s ex-best friend, to show persistent love to her. Mick’s own side distraction in the show, Zeke, was a fan favorite because he’s cute, and like many side characters, was too perfectly good. Then, it’s suddenly revealed that Ben’s son is the Holy Grail, and the rest of the family are good actors.

The show was doomed from the start.”

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” landed into second place at a depressed South Korean box office with a market share barely a fifth that of chart leader “Suzume.”

The Japanese animation film earned $4.46 million in its fourth week of release, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). While that was a 26% week-on-week drop, its hold on the chart remained at over 60%. Since releasing on March 8, it has grossed $29.9 million, making it the second highest film of the year in Korea – behind another Japanese animation “The First Slam Dunk” on $35.1 million.

“D&D” was the weekend’s top-placed new release and earned $958,000 for a 13% market share. Over the full five days since its opening on Wednesday, it achieved $1.36 million.

“The First Slam Dunk,” which has been on release since January, placed third with $489,000. Its cumulative total stands at $34.4 million.

The top-ranked Korean film was “Woongnami,” which earned $330,000 over the weekend. Its cumulative after two weekends is $1.86 million.

Fellow Korean title, “Soulmate” earned $151,000 in fifth place for a total of $1.64 million after three weekends. Concert film “I’m Hero” earned $147,000 for a four week total of $4.45 million.

“A Man Called Otto” ranked seventh on its opening weekend. It earned $90,000 between Friday and Sunday, and $163,000 over its full five-day opening.

South Korea’s box office continues to operate at depressed levels. The latest weekend, with a nationwide theatrical total of just $7.21 million, was (narrowly) the weakest this year.

The month of March enjoyed a gross revenue leap to KRW80.2 billion. That was nearly triple the score achieved in the same month last year (KRW27 billion). But it was still 32% short of the total in pre-COVID year 2019.

The first quarter shows a similar trend. Gross nationwide box office in the January to March period totaled KRW276 billion ($209 million). That was more than double the KRW113 million of 2022. But it is still 40% down compared with 2019, when the aggregate ran to KRW467 billion and Korea was the world’s fourth largest box office market.

The collapse in market share by local, Korean movies is even more dramatic. Used to enjoying a majority of the market (and achieving 64% market share in both 2019 and 2020), Korean movies earned just KRW79 billion ($60.1 million) in the first quarter, or a lowly 29% market share in the first three months of the year.

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” landed

Marvel Studios just shared new details on the story that fans can expect in the MCU‘s first Disney+ series from Phase 5, Secret Invasion, with its official synopsis.

Secret Invasion looks to take its place as possibly the MCU’s biggest adventure to date on Disney+, with loads of new information being revealed ahead of its recently confirmed June 21 release date.

Labeled as the MCU’s first official streaming crossover event, this show will bring the wildly-popular Skrull invasion from the comics to life as Nick Fury and Talos look to keep rogue aliens from infiltrating and taking over the planet.

And with Disney and Marvel moving forward with the show’s promotional tour, Marvel fans are anxious to see exactly what this new entry will bring to the small screen.

Marvel Studios Shares Secret Invasion Synopsis

Marvel

Along with the release of the brand-new trailer for Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion, Disney+ revealed the show’s first official synopsis, which describes the series as an “espionage thriller.”

Marvel Studios confirmed that the title takes place “in the present day MCU” as Nick Fury joins forces with Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and his Skrull ally, Ben Mendelsohn‘s Talos in order to stop the Skrull invasion and “save humanity:”

“In Marvel Studios’ new series ‘Secret Invasion,’ set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.”

How Dark Will Disney+’s Secret Invasion Get?

With Secret Invasion being one of the darker and more mature storylines from Marvel Comics, many are hoping for a similar vibe from its Disney+ counterpart on the small screen. But considering the use of “espionage thriller” in this synopsis, potentially teasing the feel of something like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this may be exactly what the fandom is looking for.

This also comes right after Marvel Studios delivered the second full look at the show with a brand-new trailer. Highlighted by Emilia Clarke’s thrilling character G’iah, the new footage teased a world that’s quickly becoming as dangerous as the MCU has ever been thanks to the Skrull Invasion.

Along with some epic new Skrull powers that were teased, Secret Invasion will bring that ‘spy thriller’ feel that fans have loved over the years thanks to Nick Fury’s work alongside Maria Hill and Everett Ross.

It will also provide the opportunity for plenty of wild reveals, with G’iah fighting against her own people as viewers look out for which MCU characters could end up being Skrull imposters.

No matter how the final details fall into place, Marvel is in for an event of epic proportions, with even the show’s cast and crew themselves in disbelief about what’s on the way.

Secret Invasion will begin streaming on Disney+ on June 21.

Matt Reeves wants to turn the sequel to The Batman into a true journey into the characters’ emotions. It’s been over a year since Robert Pattinson first appeared on the big screen dressed as The Dark Knight in one of the most ambitious superhero movies of recent years.

Such was the success of Reeves’ version of the Caped Crusader that Warner Bros. Discovery was quick to give its sequel the green light, despite the massive wave of changes that would come for the company. Today, after the creation of DC Studios and the revelation of James Gunn’s long-term plan for the franchise, The Batman Part 2 still stands as part of Elseworlds, a series of independent projects that have nothing to do with the official canon.

In 2025, fans of the Gotham City hero will be able to enjoy a double dose of the character, as not only will Pattinson return to continue his fight against criminals, but it will also be the debut of a new Batman in The Brave and the Bold, the movie that does belong to the main timeline of the new DCU.

However, many wonder how they will manage to keep two versions of the same character contemporaneous. However, the tones and storylines will differ, with The Batman taking a darker, more retrospective path.

Matt Reeves on The Batman Part 2

Warner Bros.

While speaking with Josh Horowitz in the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Reeves anticipated the approach he’s looking for the next installment (via House of DCU):

“We’re going to take these characters and put them in some kind of emotional jeopardy. There’s a deep-dive that already happened at the beginning, now I’m gonna have to deep-dive again.”

It is not a surprise that the director seeks to explore the characters more deeply and put the spotlight on them because this was something he made clear in the first film. In fact, it is what he seeks to demonstrate once again with the spin-off of The Penguin, a series that will feature the return of Colin Farrell as the iconic villain and that will connect directly with the sequel, which will surely already have Oswald Cobblepot as the true enemy to defeat.

The Batman 2 could also mean the official introduction of Barry Keoghan’s Joker since he only appeared in one of the last scenes from the first movie and barely showed his face. The psychology behind Batman and Joker’s relationship would definitely fit in Reeves’ vision of the character and his universe.

A new 1TB Western Digital Expansion Card for Xbox series consoles has appeared online, and it’s much cheaper than its competitors.

The “WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox” appeared over the weekend on Best Buy’s website, however, it is currently unavailable for purchase. The item would expand the storage of an Xbox Series console by 1TB.

When the Xbox Series consoles first launched in 2020, they brought with them a proprietary memory card system, in order to expand the storage of the machines.

At launch, a 1TB, 2TB, and 512GB card, manufactured by Seagate was offered. This new card will seemingly set players back $179.99 (around £145). This is significantly cheaper than Microsoft‘s 1TB offering, which retails for $220, although it is rarely in stock.

Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core

While both Series consoles offer other forms of memory expansion, or the ability to store games on third-party hard drives, what makes the expansion card system unique is that it’s fully compatible with Xbox’s Quick Resume feature, meaning that games can be stored in a playable state directly on the expansion cards, rather than typical USB hard drives which instead store the games in “cold storage”.

This means that while you can store games on typical USB drives, you have to copy them into the system’s internal storage, or one of these expansion cards in order to play Xbox Series games. Older titles can run natively from the harddrive.

For comparison, PlayStation 5 storage expansion uses generic hard drives that have been produced by multiple manufacturers.

While this means that generally, the prices for these expansions are lower than on Xbox, inconsistent performance between hard drives means that some consumer research is required before purchases, unlike Microsoft’s “plug-and-play” solution.
