The 20-year-old mum who got sepsis from the piercing passed away on Saturday at the Hospital da Vida

Her devastated mum Maria Aparecida da Silva Oliveira, 47, told local media that the infection entered her bloodstream and travelled to her brain.

She said that medics explained the infection had affected had 37 per cent of her daughter’s brain, Diario do Nordeste reports.

Maria said her daughter paid £9 (BRL 60) for the piercing, but she has no idea if the establishment was licensed to carry out the procedure.

She said: “She did not mention anything to me about whether the person was a professional.”

Maria added: “Around June 13, she began to feel unwell, with severe headaches and fever.

“We thought it was dengue because there was an outbreak here in Itaporã.

“We took her to the doctor and, until then, we thought that was it, because my other son had it too.”

Andressa leaves behind a husband and a three-year-old son.

Maria said: “He is also inconsolable because, as little as he is, he saw his mother in that situation. It is very difficult for him.”

The woman was buried at the Cristo Redentor cemetery on Sunday.

UK director Charlotte Wells’ first feature Aftersun will open the 75th edition of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), running August 12-20 this year.

The bittersweet 1990s-set drama stars Paul Mescal as a divorced father who goes on a budget summer holiday in Turkey with his young daughter, played by newcomer Francesca Corio.

The film was one of the buzziest titles in Cannes Critics’ Week last May, where it won the new French Touch Prize of the Jury.

The Edinburgh screening will mark a homecoming for Wells, who was born in the city and now lives in New York. In the release announcing the EIFF opening slot, the filmmaker revealed the festival’s role in introducing her to independent cinema.

“As a teenager, I spent just about all the money I had saved each summer on tickets to EIFF, sitting on the floor at Fountainbridge in hour-long queues for box office opening, leafing through the weighty program which offered my first exposure to independent and international cinema,” said Wells.

“In 2006, I bought tickets to the Duplass brothers’ The Puffy Chair based on its inch-square picture and synopsis. The Q&A that followed made clear how explicit the connection between filmmakers and their work could be; what personal filmmaking could be. In 2006, I attended the opening night film: The Flying Scotsman. In 2022, I’ll attend again. Edinburgh is home and so is the EIFF. I can’t wait.”

The film is produced by Adele Romanski, Barry Jenkins and Mark Ceryak under the banner of their Los Angeles-based production company Pastel and Amy Jackson at London-based Unified Theory.

“It means so much to have Aftersun open our festival and celebrate a homegrown talent whose artistry is entirely international in its scope and appreciation,” said EIFF creative director Kristy Matheson.

More than 40 years ago, a manuscript containing Don Henley’s hand-written lyrics and other notes from the Eagles’ seminal album “Hotel California” was stolen. Now, the Manhattan District Attorney has announced that three men have been charged in connection to that theft.

Glenn Horowitz, 66, Craig Inciardi, 58, and Edward Kosinksi, 59 have all been charged with one count of conspiracy in the fourth degree Inciardi and Kosinksi have also been charged with first degree criminal possession of stolen property, while Horowitz has been separately charged with one count of first degree attempted criminal possession of stolen property, and two counts of second degree hindering od prosecution.

In a statement Tuesday, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said that the manuscript, approximately 100 pages of notes and lyrics related to “Hotel California,” was first stolen by an unnamed individual, hired to write The Eagles’ biography, at some point in the late 1970s. Among other things, the manuscript contained Henley’s original lyrics to the songs “Hotel California,” “Life in the Fast Lane,” and “New Kid In Town.”

In 2005, that individual sold the manuscript to Horowitz, a rare book dealer, who subsequently sold the manuscript to Inciardi and Kosinski. The matter came to light when Henley learned that Inciardi and Kosinski were attempting to sell parts of the manuscript and filed a police report. According to the DA’s office, “Rather than making any effort to ensure they actually had rightful ownership, the defendants responded by engaging in a years-long campaign to prevent Henley from recovering the manuscripts.”

The DA’s office accuses Hororwizt and Inciardi of attempting to fabricate the provenance of the papers between 2012 and 2017, and it accuses Inciardi and Kosinski of subsequently using that false certification in an attempt to sell the manuscript back to Henley.

“Despite knowing that the materials were stolen, the defendants attempted to sell the manuscripts, manufactured false provenance, and lied to auction houses, potential buyers, and law enforcement about the origin of the material. The manuscripts are collectively valued at over $1 million,” the office said in a statement.

“New York is a world-class hub for art and culture, and those who deal cultural artifacts must scrupulously follow the law. There is no room for those who would seek to ignore the basic expectations of fair dealing and undermine the public’s confidence and trust in our cultural trade for their own ends,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement. “These defendants attempted to keep and sell these unique and valuable manuscripts, despite knowing they had no right to do so. They made up stories about the origin of the documents and their right to possess them so they could turn a profit.”

Released in December, 1976, “Hotel California” became the Eagles’ second most successful album, selling more than 32 million copies worldwide. The compilation album “Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)” is the best-selling American album released in the 20th, having sold nearly 38 million copies to date.

Beginning with Wandavision in 2021, Marvel Studios ushered in a new era with Phase 4 of the iconic cinematic universe, by taking the leap into streaming world, with various limited series and shows produced for Disney +.  2022 has seen that continue, and now this season for the 2022 Emmy’s, the studio has found itself securing 19 nominations for four of the studios productions; Moon Knight, Loki, Hawkeye, and What if…?.

Of these shows, it’s Moon Knight which has seen the most nominations, garnering 8 nominations, Loki following suit with 6, What if…? getting 3, and finally Hawkeye with 2.  Notably, there was an absense of an acting nomination for any of these series, something which Wandavision would manage to receive last year.

While Phase 4 has been a somewhat mixed bag for Marvel Studios when it comes to their films, the various Disney+ series have all been relatively consistent in terms of quality, with only a few notable hiccups here and there.  Of the shows this year, Moon Knight certainly was the biggest surprise in terms of quality, as it introduced a new character and mythos, was notably darker and more serious in tone, and lacked many references to other franchises within the MCU, allowing it to stand on it’s own.  Loki would receive praise for it’s unique premise, visuals, and ending which saw the floodgates of the multiverse open to the MCU.  Hawkeye was notable for its Christmas theme, character interactions, and down to earth action sequences, and What if…? received praise for it’s unique twists on iconic MCU stories, and was notable for the posthumous performance of Chadwick Boseman, of which he would receive an award nomination for as a version of T’Challa who would take the place of Peter Quill as Star Lord.

The Covid pandemic meant that a lot of shows had their schedules thrown out of sync, which shook up various Emmy races.

However, after a solid haul of Emmy nominations, HBO expects that new seasons of key awards titles such as Succession, The White Lotus and Barry, will be released in time for next year’s Emmy eligibility deadline.

Succession scored 25 nominations, the most of any show and taking its total Emmy noms to 48, The White Lotus secured 20 noms, and Barry took in another 14 nominations, while Euphoria also brought in another 16 nominations.

Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer at HBO and HBO Max, joked to Deadline that he’s already thinking about next year and whether it can match this year’s nomination success.

It seems that at least Succession, the second season of The White Lotus and Barry, will be.

Succession, which picked up a drama nod as well as casting nods for the likes of Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, J. Smith-Cameron, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen, is currently in production for its fourth season.

The fourth season, which will feature ten episodes, will see the sale of Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson move even closer and this prospect provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys.

The third season premiered in October 2021.

Bloys said, “Everybody who works in this industry knows every show represents 1000s of hours of work, and artists pulling their hair out and trying to get it right. When any show is recognized, even a little bit, it’s thrilling. To see 25 nominations for [Succession] is just amazing.”

He said that he would leave whether the fourth season of Succession is the final one, as creator Jesse Armstrong has previously hinted it might be, to the Brit.

“For those conversations, we really tend to leave it with the showrunners. Jesse is obviously figuring out what he wants the fourth season to be and he will decide whether he sees it going beyond that or not. We’ll really leave it to him and let him have his process and figure out what he wants to do,” added Bloys.

On Barry, which scored a main comedy nom and one for Bill Hader, Bloys said the creator and star had been really good about “reinventing” the show. The series was forced to take a big break between seasons two and three because of Covid, launching its second season in March 2019 and the third season in April 2022. It has been renewed for a fourth season, again, not determined whether it will be its last or not. “Bill is not afraid to take risks and push it to places that go dark. I think it’s been really interesting seeing what he can do both as a as a writer as a performer as a director.”

Finally, Euphoria was another big winner in terms of Emmy noms this morning, picking up 16 nods including for best drama and another acting nod for star Zendaya.

In much the same way as Barry was delayed by the pandemic, Euphoria’s first season aired in 2019 and returned in January for its second season, albeit with two special episodes airing at the end of 2020 and start of 2021.

Bloys doesn’t expect any special episodes in between seasons two and three, although it may not be eligible for next year’s Emmys.

Creator Sam Levinson has a busy few months ahead with The Idol as well (which has had its own creative challenges). “They’ve got it all worked out with Sam’s schedule on The Idol, going into writing and prepping season three [of Euphoria]. He’s going to be very busy but they’ve got it all worked out.”

“We are so proud that the collective work of our incredibly talented artists and creative partners has been recognized by the Television Academy. We are equally proud to have achieved some exciting firsts in nominations for the fabulous Lizzo and her groundbreaking competition series, our first short-form animated program with The Boys Presents: Diabolical, as well as Amy Poehler for directing our documentary film Lucy and Desi, this year’s most-nominated doc,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “Each nomination is a testament to the deep commitment of our incredible creative partners and our resulting compelling series and films. We congratulate our colleagues at MGM on their nominations and look forward to celebrating all the nominees on television’s biggest night.”

The count smashes Prime Video’s 2021 nomination total of 20, reflecting a banner year of powerful, bold, and inclusive storytelling.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s total nominations now stand at 66, unmatched by any streaming comedy series, and this year’s haul includes nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series.

On the nonfiction side, Amy Poehler’s documentary Lucy and Desi earned six nominations. Poehler’s nomination for Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program is her first as a director, making her the first person to notch nominations for acting, writing, and directing categories across three different titles. Her career total now stands at 23.

Pop icon Lizzo, meanwhile, came away with the first nomination of her career as executive producer of Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrls, the sole new nominee in the category this year.

With the main series ineligible this year, The Boys Presents: Diabolical carries on the franchise’s Emmy recognition with a nomination for Outstanding Short Form Animated Program.

MGM also nabbed nominations for Vikings: Valhalla, The Voice, Shark Tank, and Survivor.

Last August, we heard that Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) would be starring Cuckoo, a new horror film from writer/director Tilman Singer. Now Deadline reports that Cuckoo has wrapped filming, and Schafer has been joined in the cast by Dan Stevens (The Guest), Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters), Marton Csókás (Freelance), Greta Fernández (Santo), and Jan Bluthardt (Tatort).

A first look image of Schafer in the film can be seen at the bottom of this article.

We had previously heard that Gemma Chan (Eternals), Sofia Boutella (The Mummy 2017), Zita Hanrot (Love, Death & Robots), Proschat Madani (Walking on Sunshine), and John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) would be in the movie as well, but they aren’t mentioned in Deadline’s latest report.

Details on Cuckoo are being kept under wraps. This is the second feature for Singer, following the 2018 supernatural horror film Luz, which Bluthardt had a role in. Luz told the story of “a young cab driver fleeing from the grasp of a possessed woman, whose confession could endanger the lives of everyone who crosses her path.”

Several of Singer’s Luz collaborators joined him on Cuckoo. In addition to Bluthardt, also returning from Luz were cinematographer Paul Faltz, composer Simon Waskow, and production designer Dario Mendez Acosta.

Cuckoo is being financed by Neon. The film is being produced by Markus Halberschmidt, Josh Rosenbaum, Maria Tsigka, Ken Kao, Thor Bradwell, Ben Rimmer, in a cooperation between Germany’s Fiction Park and the States’ Waypoint Entertainment. It’s executive produced by Tom Quinn, Jeff Deutchman, Emily Thomas, and Ryan Friscia for Neon. Additional funding came from the Film und Medien Stiftung NRW, HessenFilm, and the German Federal Film Fund.

Cuckoo was shot on 35mm in Germany, and is expected to be released sometime in 2023. Are you looking forward to this one? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

As for this year’s 74th Emmy nominations, the announcement on Tuesday — made by J.B. Smoove and Melissa Fumero, two of the stars of Netflix’s upcoming comedy “Blockbuster” — came after the return of a fairly normal FYC campaign season for the first time since 2019. After a two-year break due to COVID, in-person events returned this year, along with the continuation of virtual panels. That allowed outlets like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, NBCUniversal, and Disney to once again open pop-up FYC events spaces. Others welcomed the return of panels to venues like the Academy’s Wolf Theatre at its North Hollywood headquarters.

Rule changes were kept to a relative minimum in 2022, with major tweaks focused on eliminating program time length stipulations for comedy and drama series, as well as further defining what a “limited series” is. The TV Academy also ruled that any film placed on the viewing platform for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be deemed a theatrical motion picture and thus ineligible for the Emmy competition — effectively ending the ability for any documentaries to try their hand at the Emmys if they don’t receive an Oscar nod.

Also, this is the first year that the Television Academy, in cooperation with its New York counterparts at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, did away with time slot restrictions for their respective Emmy ceremonies, instead opting to focus on genres to define what head to the Primetime, Daytime or newly created Children’s & Family Emmys, among other ceremonies.

Done+Dusted and Hudlin Entertainment will once again produce this year’s Emmy Awards, set to air Sept. 12 on NBC and Peacock at 5 p.m. PT. Ian Stewart, Reginald Hudlin, Byron Phillips, and Jane Mun will executive produce the live three-hour telecast that will air globally, with D+D’s Hamish Hamilton as director. As for this year’s 74th Emmy nominations,

A very important podcast this week as we’re joined by former “Bachelorette” and BIP contestant, Cam Ayala, who has a very uplifting story to tell. If you haven’t seen this in the news over the last week or so, Cam had a right leg amputation due to suffering for years from Lymphedema. We go over all of it, the pain he’s endured, how the surgery went, where he goes from here, and how he wants to become an ambassador, all before getting into anything show related. And man, I still can’t believe what he told me regarding the other guys from his season of the “Bachelor.” NONE of them had reached out to him at the time of this recording last week. Not. One. They should be ashamed and embarrassed. Some big names in this franchise from his season. Some big names who have a platform from his season, couldn’t take the time to send a guy a message, regardless of if they’d kept in touch with him or not. Says a lot about their real character to me, and I hope you see that as well. Thanks to Cam for coming on and sharing his story. Please take the time to listen to this whole podcast and I think you’ll get a new understanding of a guy who the show did about as dirty as you can get with his edit, completely ignoring his battle with lymphedema and basically using it as a joke.

(SPOILERS) I begin by briefly going over yesterday’s BIP spoilers, lack of “Bachelorette” spoilers, starting the daily podcast next week, & programming note regarding back catalog of episodes. Then Cam joins me (18:36) to discuss his recent right leg amputation, his battle with lymphedema since his teen years, how he plans to become an ambassador, how his lymphedema was never mentioned on Hannah’s season and BIP, Hannah reaching out to him recently, how none of the other guys from his season have reached out to him, and much, much more.

An already grim end run gets a Vince Gilligan-directed reminder that victories can be infinitely small and pain lasts well beyond the scars.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 6, Episode 8, “Point and Shoot.”]

The writing team on “Better Call Saul” had no idea how the final season would be broken up. Yet, even though the people involved couldn’t have planned for certain that this would be the opening, it’s hard to think of a better beginning for the series’ final homestretch. Not only is “Point and Shoot” an impeccable ballet of conflicting aims and means, it sets an effective expectation for the remaining five episodes to come: Don’t expect this to feel good.

Take the late Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian), who’s only represented by a few of his personal items in the (unsurprisingly poetic) cold open. By the time the attention turns back to the Wexler-McGill apartment, Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim (Rhea Seehorn) are the only two who seem to acknowledge that his body is still lying there on the floor, no matter how many people come through that door over the course of the episode. If somebody is going to survive this season, they’ll have to tiptoe around their share of corpses to do so.

Lalo (Tony Dalton) won’t be one of those somebodies. It’s fitting that Gordon Smith is the writer on “Point and Shoot,” given that it’s a mirror in many ways of the Nacho farewell he wrote and directed. They both feature men bent on revenge whose hubris makes them ignorant of their own vulnerabilities. They look at marked men going rogue from a strictly outlined plan in order to have the freedom to go out on their own terms. And both are obviously swan songs for a pair whose ends were surprising but inescapable in their own way.

In Lalo’s case, though, he’s the one holding all the cards at the beginning of his end. Picking right back up after his murder of Howard, “Point and Shoot” begins with a clear contrast: Jimmy and Kim’s abject horror vs. the eerie calm of their tormentor. Lalo offers them an out in the form of a quid pro quo, a life for a life. If “Better Call Saul” gave Lalo his own warped superpower — one magnified exponentially by a seemingly unflappable Dalton — it’s competence. There’s the terror of watching a man being assassinated in a living room but another kind entirely to have that same man explain the simplicity of killing another person, delivered with the relative ease of a calculus teacher saying that differential equations aren’t really all that hard if you just follow the steps. Of course, Kim’s assignment to hunt down Gus (or whoever else opens the door to the Fortress of Fringitude) is a textbook Lalo (and by extension “Better Call Saul”) misdirect, designed to draw The Chicken Man out of hiding.

From there, it’s a showdown of two professionals, each who’ve made a living and stayed alive in their own corner of the cartel chess match. Smith respects both Gus’ intelligence and the audience’s by giving him the minimal amount of detail to realize that sending Kim to his place was a Lalo fakeout. Without knowing what Kim is capable of in other circumstances, Gus recognizes that it would have taken a leverage-less Jimmy a lot more than a simple argument to convince someone that strong-willed to change his plan. Lalo’s not the only one with the superpower here.

Yet, in a battle of reasonable equals, they each swap mistakes. In trying to intercept Lalo at Lavandería Brillante, Gus makes the fundamental mistake of not watching his back. In turn, thinking he’d finally hooked his big fish, Lalo provides just enough an opening for Gus to lunge for the secret pistol nestled inside the earth-mover tread. It all comes down to where each man draws his pride. In referring to Kim as “Mrs. Goodman” and laying out the specifics of the German engineering crew, Lalo’s attempts at disarming his opponents with superior knowledge backfire. Just as he shows he doesn’t know the whole nature of Jimmy’s identity, his assumption that he knows the entire specifications of the underground lab lead him to overlook the one key detail that might have saved him. On the other hand, Gus adjusting his shirt and jacket, so as to face his own potential execution with dignity, may have been what helped buy himself enough time to distract Lalo and his camcorder.

“Better Call Saul”

Greg Lewis/AMC/Sony Pictures Television

For as much as the rest of this season will be dissected for hidden self-referential details, it’s moments like Kim hesitating at the stop light next to the police car that speak to the full Albuquerque tapestry better than anything else. The number of branching “what-if”s are too many to count at this point, but full credit to Seehorn for another nonverbal Kim moment that speaks volumes beyond the moment itself. Not only does her sunken reaction to the car driving away show that a potential to bring this all to an end has passed, it carries with it the weight of almost everything that’s destined to come after it. It’s a weight that becomes literal when Kim pulls the Lalo-planted gun out the glove box. After how many times her character has referenced guns over the series to date (not to mention wielding ones of the finger variety), there’s a gravity in that realization that’s almost as impactful as her seeing a body fall to the floor on the rug next to her sofa.

Those extra beats to consider a weapon or a zip tie or a madman thirsting for payback are part of the magic of “Better Call Saul,” and it’s unsurprising to see director Vince Gilligan take full advantage of them here. Between the patience of those sequences and the immediacy of following Mike (Jonathan Banks) up apartment staircases and down through the underbelly of the tunnel connecting Gus’ properties, this has the rhythmic highs and lows found in the show’s best episodes. The flourishes of the camera being connected to the chair as Lalo drags it across the living room or matching Gus’ view of grainy surveillance footage (always nice to have something other than flip phones reminding folks that it’s the mid-2000s, after all) are the icing on the bloody, pulsating cake.

One of the things helping “Point and Shoot” is that Mike is fully activated. Banks is incredibly effective at the slow-burn, even-keel version of Mike fueled by staying in control. Instinctive Mike, responding to an extended crisis in real time, adds an urgency makes all the difference, especially when Banks is walking into frame and delivering stern, exact instructions right down the barrel of the camera at a 90° angle.

And it’s Mike who ends up with the final say here, too. The episode doesn’t end on a triumphant Gus having vanquished an enemy. He’s bedridden for now. This one closes with the people brought in to clean up the mess. As Howard and Lalo get loaded into a dual grave underneath the floor of what will one day be an operational meth lab (Gus’ four bodyguards that Lalo shot in the back presumably get a less-dignified resting place), Mike makes the only distinction he can. The guy who tried to kill his boss gets summarily tossed in, while the guy who had no idea what he was involved in gets a gentler toss. But at the end, Howard doesn’t even end up with his shoes, wallet, or wedding ring. In a wave of no-win outcomes likely yet to come, it’s hard to imagine there’ll be many more easy chances to find humanity in the carnage.

Kylie Minogue and her real-life ex Jason Donovan have finally reunited for their final scenes on Neighbours, sharing some sweet photos on Instagram on Monday.

The blonde superstar, 54, brought back her iconic curls to reprise her role as Charlene Robinson to star alongside Jason, who plays her husband Scott, for the iconic soap’s final episode.

Kylie captioned images of the pair together on her Instagram account, ‘Now we’re back together’, referencing their hit song, Especially For You.

The pint-sized pop star donned her character’s famous mechanic’s overalls for what would be her final appearance on the cancelled series.

Kylie’s appearance comes as the cast filmed their last scenes after the show was axed after 37 years.

The beleaguered soap opera faced an uncertain future following its cancellation by original network Channel 5, where it has spent the last 14 of its 37-years on British TV.

And Fremantle Media, the production company responsible for its development confirmed it would be taken off-air indefinitely over the summer after an ‘extensive search for alternative funding’ ended in failure.

But in the 80s, the show was unstoppable with Kylie and Jason’s onscreen wedding as Scott and Charlene was watched by two million Australians on July 1, 1987.

Their union was an even bigger attraction when it aired in the UK a year later, drawing 19.6 million viewers, making it Britain’s third most-watched show of 1988.

Kylie and Jason, who were dating in real life at the time were household names in both countries, and would each go on to launch music careers in the UK.

Their on-screen relationship began after Scott mistook Charlene for an intruder at his neighbour Madge Ramsay’s house, before eventually learning she was Madge’s daughter.

After getting married, the pair left Erinsborough and moved to Brisbane.

Kylie quit Neighbours in June 1988, having become the first person to win four Logie Awards in one year and the youngest ever recipient of a Gold Logie.

She went on to launch a phenomenally successful music career, selling more than 80 million albums worldwide.

After leaving Neighbours in 1989, Jason, like Kylie, pursued a pop career and while he may not have been as successful as his on-screen bride, he had a string of hits including Too Many Broken Hearts and Sealed With A Kiss.

Jason told the Mirror in 2016: ‘It was an extremely painful parting of the ways and, without a doubt, I took a long time to recover from it. Years, definitely.’

Kylie then dated the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. She is now in a romance with British GQ’s Creative Director Paul Solomons and Jason is married to Angela Malloch

In what is set to be a gripping and emotional finale, fan favourites from the past will be returning to Ramsay Street to celebrate with Erinsborough locals.

Channel 5 teased that further announcements will be made in the coming weeks about additional surprises to send off the iconic soap in style.

The Australian soap was axed in March this year following the loss of its main UK broadcast partner, Channel 5.

News of the finale air date comes after it was reported that the stars of Neighbours will reportedly embark on a ‘farewell tour’ of the UK after the finale episode.

Key cast members will visit eight cities across England, Scotland and Wales – London, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton, Southampton, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Cardiff – in March 2023, according to Digital Spy.

The soap had previously planned an ‘in conversation series’ in 2020, coinciding with its 35th anniversary, but had to cancel due to Covid.

These plans have now apparently been rebooted as a ‘farewell tour’ but the ‘key stars’ taking part in the rumoured tour have not been revealed.

It comes after executive producer Jason Herbison hinted Kylie and Jason may have a bigger role in the finale than previously reported.

Mr Herbison told The Herald Sun that a recent storyline ‘leak’ did not fully explain how the ’80s golden couple will return to Ramsay Street.’What I’ve read is not what happens which is great. It hasn’t come out yet,’ he said.

Mr Herbison kept tight-lipped about the details of their appearance, but he did say the cameo was ’emotional’ for the actors.

Kylie and Jason’s wedding on the series 34 years ago was watched by 22 million people across Australia and the UK.

Neighbours: The Finale will air The final episode will air in Australia on Monday, August 1.

Neighbours’ most memorable storylines

Scott and Charlene’s wedding

Perhaps the most famous Neighbours moment, 20million people tuned in to watch Scott and Charlene Robinson, played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, get married in November 1988.

The pair’s friend and family were seen in floods of tears as Charlene walked down the aisle to Angry Anderson power ballad Suddenly, with neighbour Nell Mangel catching the bouquet.

Mark leaves Annalise at the altar

Mark Gottlieb and Annalise Hartman’s nuptials didn’t go to plan in 1994. While both parties were nervous on the day, Mark left Annalise at the alter, saying he couldn’t marry her.

However, it wasn’t totally down to Annalise as he decided marriage wasn’t for him and decided to become a priest.

The death of Helen Daniels

Helen Daniels, played by the late Anne Haddy, established herself as the grandmother of Ramsay Street.

Embroiled in some gripping storylines, over the years she saw her life stolen by a conman, she had an affair with her daughter’s fiancé, and she fell down some stairs before suffering a stroke.

In a bid to bring the warring Ramsay and Robinson families together, she gathered them round to watch Scott and Charlene’s wedding together but, as they bickered over their differences, she quietly passed away on the sofa in her sleep.

The Lou, Madge and Harold love triangle

Madge Ramsay (Anne Charleston), Harold Bishop (Iain Smith) and Lou Carpenter’s (Tom Oliver) lives were entangled before the show even hit screens, with the trio knowing one another from their school days.

Madge fell head over heels for ‘Jelly Belly’ Harold but was also strongly attracted to cheeky Lou.

However, Madge’s life took an unexpected turn for viewers when she married Fred Mitchell, with their relationship soon becoming troubled.

Madge and Harold later got back together and he proposed much to the distaste of Lou who attempted to win Madge over. Madge eventually married Harold in 1988.

After Harold’s death, Lou set his sights on Madge once more and the pair planned to marry but they called it off when he realised he wasn’t a match for Harold.

Harold returns from the dead

Harold was killed off on the soap when he was swept out to sea when Madge’s back was turned, leaving nothing behind other than his glasses.

However, he made a shock return to Erinsborough five years later, declaring he’d suffered from amnesia, with Helen Daniels running into him by chance while browsing in a Salvation Army shop.

He returned to Ramsay Street to be reunited with Madge.

Madge’s death

Madge appeared on the show from 1986 to 1992 and again from 1996 to 2001 as a much-loved character.

After Harold’s return, the pair renewed their marriage vows and fostered a child but she was later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Doctors told her she had just months to live but further tragedy struck when her life was shortened even further after she developed septicaemia after cutting her finger.

Before her death, Lou confessed his undying love for her and she died in the arms of Harold.

Susan’s memory loss

In typical soap style, Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) totally lost her memory after slipping on the milk from a spilled bowl of cereal in 2002.

She was convinced she was 16 years old again, a situation that left her incredibly confused when she found herself by chance at a 70s-themed birthday party.

Toady’s heartache

Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi, played by Ryan Moloney, found was first heartbroken just hours after his wedding to Dee Bliss (Madeleine West) in 2003 when he lost control of their car and drove it off a cliff, with her body never being found.

In 2010 he left Steph Scully (Carla Bonner) at the alter when he realised she didn’t love him and during his third wedding to Sonya Mitchell (Eve Morey) in 2013, a gas bottle exploded during the reception, destroying their marquee and leaving Sonya with a fractured skull and no memory of the wedding. Characters Priya Kapoor and Rhys Lawson were also killed in the blast.

Kylie Minogue and her real-life ex Jason Donovan

This is a cover of a song by Killing Joke. Another track by Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck has been released-“The Death & Resurrection Show,” a cover of Killing Joke.

It will appear on their joint album “18”, which will be released on July 15.

The song “The Death & Resurrection Show” has already been played at concerts by Depp and Beck more than once – for example, at performances in London, Birmingham, and Copenhagen, which took place this year.

The original composition “The Death & Resurrection Show” was released in 2003 on Killing Joke’s 12th album, Killing Joke.

An interesting fact: Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl participated in the recording of the record, performing the drum parts.

Killing Joke was produced by Andy Gill, guitarist for the cult post-punk band Gang of Four.

In addition to “The Death & Resurrection Show,” the tracklist for “18” will include the recently released singles “This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr” and “Venus In Furs,” a cover by The Velvet Underground.

In general, most of the 18 albums will consist of interpretations of songs by other artists: Depp and Beck turned to the work of John Lennon, The Beach Boys, The Everly Brothers, Marvin Gaye, and Janice Yen. I

n addition, there are two original tracks on the record: those above “This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr” and “Sad Motherf**kin’ Parade.” Johnny Depp wrote both songs himself.

According to Jeff Beck, while working on the material, the musicians joked that they felt young again, as if they were 18 years old. Therefore, the album was called “18”.

Johnny Depp is far from new to music. He participated in the recording of songs by Oasis and Iggy Pop and also had a hand in the soundtracks of some films in which he starred – for example, “Chocolate” and “Once Upon a Time in Mexico.”

Rhett & Link will once again crank up the adult-content factor with their second livestreamed show, “Good Mythical Evening.”

The duo, whose full names are Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, are founders and hosts of “Good Mythical Morning,” one of the longest-running and most popular shows on YouTube with more than 17 million subscribers on its primary channel.

Rhett & Link’s upcoming “Good Mythical Evening,” set to air Sept. 1, is a pay-per-view comedy and variety entertainment special based on their daily talk show. Tickets for the one-night-only event are priced starting at $21.99 each.

As with last year’s special, Rhett & Link won’t need to adhere to YouTube’s advertising-friendly content guidelines — and they’re promising a “decidedly R-rated spin on the ‘Good Mythical Morning’ variety show format, featuring cursing, drinking and adult situations galore,” according to their announcement. Rhett & Link’s Mythical entertainment company partnered with social live media platform Moment House to produce the “Good Mythical Evening” event. Last year, the comedy special sold more than 70,000 tickets.

“Last year, Good Mythical Evening got more unhinged than we could have ever anticipated,” Rhett & Link said in a statement. “It turns out that the Mythical Beasts love seeing us without the constraints we normally put on ourselves. So we’re taking off the guardrails and leaning into the mayhem once again.”

“Good Mythical Evening” will premiere via Moment House on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. Pacific. Members of Mythical Society — Rhett & Link’s subscription service — will have early access to buy tickets starting Wednesday, July 13, at 3 a.m. Pacific, before they are generally available Friday, July 15, at 3 a.m. Pacific at goodmythicalevening.com.

Rhett & Link are among YouTube’s highest-earning creators: The duo pulled in an estimated $30 million in gross revenue in 2021, per Forbes. The two best friends from North Carolina started Mythical, their digital comedy studio and entertainment company, as a YouTube channel in 2006. In 2019, Mythical acquired YouTube comedy brand Smosh. Today the L.A.-based company has more than 125 employees.

“The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Jen Shah pleaded guilty in federal court on Monday to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud related to an alleged telemarketing scheme.

She faces up to 30 years in prison. As part of her guilty plea, Shah also agreed to forfeit $6.5 million and to pay restitution up to $9.5 million. Her sentencing is scheduled for November.

“Jennifer Shah was a key participant in a nationwide scheme that targeted elderly, vulnerable victims,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement. “These victims were sold false promises of financial security but instead Shah and her co-conspirators defrauded them out of their savings and left them with nothing to show for it.  This Office is committed to rooting out these schemes whatever form they take.”

The reality star previously pleaded not guilty to one count each of conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to commit wire fraud after she and her associate, Stuart Smith (described on the Bravo reality show as her assistant), were arrested in March in connection to a federal telemarketing fraud case.

Prosecutors said Shah and Smith targeted elderly victims throughout the U.S. and generated “lead lists” that were then sold to other participants in the scheme. Shah was said to be at the “highest level” of the government’s case. Shah was released on $1 million bond with $250,000 cash or property security, with a trial date scheduled for October.

Shah debuted with the main cast members on “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” the newest installment in the Bravo reality TV franchise, last November. In her cast bio, she is described as “queen of her house and her businesses as the CEO of three marketing companies.”

SPOILER ALERT: Do not read if you have not watched Episodes 8 and 9 of “Stranger Things 4,” now streaming on Netflix.

“Stranger Things 4” put Sadie Sink’s Max Mayfield through hell. The fan favorite character ended the season in a coma with her bones broken and eyes blinded at the hands of Veca. Max technically died for one whole minute before Eleven revived her friend, but Eleven’s powers weren’t enough to bring Max fully back to life. Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently confirmed that Max’s ambiguous fate was originally going to be more clear, and it wasn’t going to be good for fans.

“It was discussed as a possibility,” Ross Duffer recently said about killing Max permanently. “For awhile that is what was going to happen. But we ended up in this… we wanted to end it with a little more of a question at the end of the season. It’s still really dark and if Max is going to be okay, we just don’t really know. We wanted to leave it up in the air moving forward into Season 5.”

Matt Duffer described “Stranger Things 4” as the Netflix show’s “Empire Strikes Back  Season” because “we wanted them to actually lose. We wanted our characters to experience what that that felt like. That was the big idea coming into Season 4, that they were going to lose. We were  going to introduce Vecna and they were going to lose to him. That sets our characters up for what will be the ultimate final confrontation with Vecna and with the Upside Down in Season 5.”

While Max’s fate was left more ambiguous, there’s nothing left up in the air about Eddie’s fate. Joesph Quinn’s character was killed by demon bats in the Upside Down. “We fell in love with Eddie. We fell in love with Joe,” Matt Duffer said. “I think everybody in the cast fell in love with him. We  knew he had to die…that’s part of me that wishes he still around for Season 5. That’s ultimately how you want to feel.”

“Stranger Things 4” is  now streaming in its entirety on Netflix.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
Cast: Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Fala Chen, Tony Leung, Meng’er Zhang, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Yeoh

As Marvel expands its universe with a Chinese superhero and an Asia-set film, there’s a lot riding on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The character begins with a clean slate with no background from the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it comes with the baggage of cultural representation and diversity debates that have surrounded superhero movies for a while. You cannot just dazzle the audience with brilliantly choreographed action scenes, each kung fu move will be watched closely for technical accuracy.

But Marvel prove they are doing things differently this time with the long opening sequence set in China and entirely in Mandarin. You begin to wonder if the movie is in English at all, when the action finally moves to San Francisco and English dialogues come in.

The storyline of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a templated one. A teenager runs away from home to prevent his revenge-driven father Wenwu (Tony Leung) from forcing him to become a killer. He seems to be leading a pretty content life in San Francisco as a valet parking cars and occasionally racing them, too, until his past comes chasing after him. And then he must embrace his real identity and face the father and responsibilities he’s been running from.

Only that the father is a legendary crime lord with godlike strength and immortality, and a mysterious band of assassins called Ten Rings. He is singularly focused on getting what he wants, and does not hesitate in putting his children’s lives in danger. The rest is the expected tug of war between family ties and righteousness, sacrifice and self-servitude.

One of the film’s major achievements is that despite the dramatic background of Shang-Chi’s character, he becomes relatable from the get-go. His life of no worries in San Francisco and his motormouth friend Katy (Awkwafina), who can’t speak her native language, present realistic portrayals of millennial immigrants. And so, it’s easier for him to stun people when he single-handedly saves a bus full of passengers from a band of deadly assassins.

The bus scene is one of the most engaging action sequences, with a brilliant display of Simu Liu’s martial arts skills. Despite coming from a CGI dependent superhero universe, Shang-Chi relies, for a large part, on human strength and agility – borrowing from the wuxia genre of movies. A brilliant example of it is Wenwu’s elaborate introduction scene.

Although this is an origin story, hints of various elements did exist in previous MCU films like Iron Man and Doctor Strange. If you are not deep into the Marvel universe, connecting some dots might be a problem. It does tie back to the larger Marvel universe with explanations, et al, to tell you that this is not a disconnected turn of events after all.

What you can enjoy without any background is the hardly-seen-before visual spectacle and action scenes. Shang-Chi is one of the most visually stunning Marvel movies ever made. The change in setting has allowed production design to be infused with new flavours. The concrete jungle backdrop usually seen in other superhero movies has been replaced by magical outdoors and a burst of beautiful colours, heightening the big screen experience.

Daddy issues have been central to the MCU, right from Tony Stark’s baggage about Howard Stark’s legacy to Loki’s striving to prove himself to his adoptive father, Odin. It becomes the core of Shang-Chi, driven by Wenwu’s conflicted character who has all the power in the world but has lost the one thing that his heart desires. The story of Shang-Chi works even without the glitz and gloss of the superhero genre.

There’s also something peculiar about surrounding the titular character with so many others who are stronger and charismatic, in an almost deliberate attempt to set him apart from other superheroes in the MCU. Besides Leung, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina and Meng’ er Zhang – all seem to one-up Simu Liu on occasions. Let’s hope the future films give us more opportunities to cheer for Shang-Chi than chuckle at his expense.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten

Beanie Feldstein will be leaving “Funny Girl” on Broadway at the end of this month, the actress announced in an Instagram post on Sunday.

“Playing Fanny Brice on Broadway has been a lifelong dream of mine,” Feldstein wrote in her Instagram caption, “and doing so for the last few months has been a great joy and true honor. Once the production decided to take the show in a different direction, I made the extremely difficult decision to step away sooner than anticipated.”

Feldstein did not provide details on the “different direction” mentioned and said that she will leave the show on July 31.

“I will never forget this experience and from the bottom of my heart,” Feldstein continued, “I want to thank every single person who came to the August Wilson for the love and support you have shown me and our amazing cast and crew. The people I have had the great joy of bringing Funny Girl to life with every night, both on and off the stage, are all remarkably talented and exceptional humans and I hope you continue to join them on Henry Street after I depart on July 31st.”

This announcement shortens Feldstein’s anticipated performance as Fanny after producers announced last month that Feldstein would leave the show in September. In June, the “How to Build a Girl” actress missed several shows due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis and returned to the stage in mid-June. The Broadway revival opened at the August Wilson Theatre in late April.

As for who will replace Feldstein, the production tweeted that “exciting casting announcements” were coming tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET with the caption “Stay tuned, gorgeous…”

When Feldstein was announced to star in the show’s first Broadway revival since the original 1964 production, she called the opportunity her “lifelong dream come true.”

“The first time I played Fanny Brice was at my third birthday party, in a head-to-toe leopard print outfit my mom made for me,” Feldstein said in a statement. “So, it’s safe to say that stepping into this iconic role, on Broadway and not in my family’s backyard, is truly my lifelong dream come true. I am immensely grateful to be able to do so alongside such a remarkable creative team, and cannot wait for audiences to get back in theaters again!”

This week on HBO’s Westworld, a familiar face finally resurfaced, while things turned deadly at the new theme park.

The episode “Annees Folles” finally checks back in with Bernard, who has been “asleep” for seven years. Last time we saw him, he was slumped forward on a bed collecting dust while the world went to hell around him. Thankfully, he’s had a friend (and watchdog) in Ashley Stubbs, former head of security at Westworld and easily the most loyal sidekick in the show. More on that shortly.

The episode begins with Bernard opening his eyes in the Sublime. His son, Charlie, whispers to him, tells him to wake up, and snatches the miniature maze — the one we’ve seen throughout the show — from his hands. Bernard follows his son through a nearby door and into a vast expanse of sunlit hills. Atop the nearest ridge is a tree that bursts into flames before his eyes, leading him to a place resembling Westworld. Bodies litter the dusty streets. Flames lick at abandoned carts. A wolf darts out of a nearby shop to inspect the dead. As Bernard takes in the sobering scene, a white horse gallops through the carnage. None of this makes much sense at present, but it wouldn’t be Westworld if any part of this story was clear from the get-go.

The scene changes again, this time putting Bernard face-to-face with the same horse as massive screens flicker around them. He trudges through the vision and eventually arrives at… a tower. The writers have dropped hints about this throughout the season, and this structure resembles the drawing Christine glimpsed at the mental health clinic.

Bernard advances into the building and finds that the horse has led him to Akecheta, who explains where he is and why he’s taken the form he has. Bernard returns from the Sublime and hits the road with Stubbs.

Meanwhile, Maeve and Caleb navigate Delos’ flashy new 1920s-inspired theme park. (“They spare no expense on their prisons” is one of the saltiest Maeve quotes yet.) The narrative set-ups in the park are familiar: every choice you make, every host you help, sets in motion a chain of events that feels organic but is in fact meticulously plotted and controlled. This may not be a Wild West simulation anymore, but it’s still a Delos venture. That means manipulation and shameless self-indulgence will abound. Caleb reaches for a can rolling past him in the street but Maeve stops him, steering him away from one of the park’s pre-set storylines.

Bernard and Stubbs stop at a roadside diner. Bernard tests the integrity of his reality and instructs Stubbs to order a tuna melt. Stubbs asks Bernard what he’s up to. Bernard replies, “Trying to discern which here is here.” He explains that the Sublime showed him countless realities that could come to be; by triggering a specific series of events, Bernard hopes to put the world on a path to survival rather than destruction. He kills two diner patrons before a woman pulls into the parking lot. According to Bernard, she’s key to saving the world. Bernard shows her a drawing of the Maze on a coaster and she tells them to come with her.

Back at the park, Maeve and Caleb wait at The Butterfly Club. A group of mobsters storm the bar, allowing Maeve and Caleb to hide amongst the piles of dead hosts brought back to the Delos facility for repair. As they navigate the building, they fight themselves caught in another level of the game initiated by this park’s Dolores. Maeve is injured, but the two manage to reach the lower level. There, they discover that the company is developing a kind of parasite. Further in, they see clouds of the flies that William and Dolores-Hale used to corrupt and kill their victims.

Caleb’s wife, Uwade, and their daughter, Frankie, find themselves in danger as the men guarding them appear to be compromised. Uwade kills one of them and escapes with Frankie.

In the desert, the mysterious woman blindfolds Stubbs and Bernard, leads them into the desert, and guides them through a series of traps and safeguards before introducing them to other members of her group. Bernard says there’s a weapon hidden in the desert and that he can help them find it.

The episodes leaves us on an agonizing note: William and Maeve fight briefly but brutally (the former gaining the upper hand), and Caleb discovers that Delos is controlling prisoners. He saves a host copy of his daughter, only to realize he has fallen into a trap. Host Frankie’s head then opens, and a cloud of those bastard flies attacks Caleb….

What did you think of Season 4’s third episode?

This week on HBO’s Westworld, a familiar

For many audiences, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s “Into the Woods” has become not only their entry point into the late Broadway composer‘s work but also to Broadway theater itself. Credit the universal subject matter — the fractured retelling of classic fairy tales — or Rob Marshall’s 2014 mixed bag of a film, or perhaps the countless school and community theater productions that have been mounted since the show debuted 35 years ago. But Sondheim’s first big Broadway hit remains a somewhat flawed vehicle for his epic talents, particularly in the lumpy second act.

Yet director Lear deBessonet’s lively new Broadway revival, which opened Sunday at the St. James Theatre after a successful run last month in the Encores! series at New York City Center, dispels virtually every reservation or doubt a pesky critic could have about the show.

The stripped-down staging, with music director Rob Berman’s orchestra center stage and only the simplest of sets (by David Rockwell), certainly helps matters, and so does the star-studded cast of Tony winners (and some very talented newcomers) who seem to be vying mightily to steal the show from each other.

They do so by leaning into the humor of Lapine’s book, with some well-placed updates and sly line readings that make it clear that nobody is taking the plight of fairy-tale characters too seriously. Gavin Creel (“Hello, Dolly!”) and Joshua Henry (“The Scottsboro Boys”) camp it up as the two preening princes, Philippa Soo (“Hamilton”) is the picture of yearning as Cinderella and Julia Lester (“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”) is a plucky delight as Little Red, who belts some of her notes while her mouth is stuffed with pastries.

Pop star turned Broadway composer Sara Bareilles and Brian D’Arcy James (“Something Rotten”) help ground the drama with their more serious storyline about a baker and his wife’s quest to lift an infertility curse placed on them by a neighboring witch, played with a diva-like grandeur by Patina Miller (“Pippin”). The biggest scene-stealer turns out to be Milky White, a life-size puppet (designed by James Ortiz) brought to expressive, look-at-me life by Cameron Johnson at the performance I attended (he was filling in for Kennedy Kanagawa, out with COVID).

All that talent is put to very good use in this pencil-sharp, fast-paced production — whose high points are many and often beanstalk-high. They help to disguise some of the shortcomings of the musical, from Sondheim’s unfortunate and awkward attempts to re-create 1980s rap to a second act that forgets to leave breadcrumbs of relatability as it meanders into a thicket of philosophical abstractions. But even as the story turns darker, and Miller abandons her raps for some of Sondheim’s best ballads (“Children Will Listen,”) deBessonet keeps the pacing brisk and the focus clear. There’s good reason why we continue to be drawn to this show, and these grim Grimm tales, after all this time.

TORONTO — A 2-2 tie that felt like a loss proved to be another painful lesson for Toronto FC as it rebuilds under coach Bob Bradley.

Jack Skahan, who entered the game in the 83rd minute, scored his first MLS goal two minutes into stoppage time to earn the San Jose Earthquakes a road point and spoil a spirited Toronto comeback Saturday.

“Painful,” said Toronto goalkeeper Quentin Westberg who made a fine save to deny Jeremy Ebobisse seconds earlier. “Yes painful but also (a) great reaction in the second half.”

Goals by Deandre Kerr and Jonathan Osorio had seemed to earn Toronto (5-10-4) three badly needed points.

But an attempted clearance by Ifunanyachi Achara ricocheted off a sliding San Jose captain Jackson Yuell and sent the ball back into the Toronto penalty box, allowing Skahan to hammer a low shot past Westberg in the 92nd minute.

“I definitely have that save in me,” said Westberg, who was being hard on himself.

Toronto, coming off back-to-back home loses to Seattle and Columbus, has managed just two wins in its last 12 league outings (2-8-2).

And with four of its next five games are on the road, TFC was looking to pick up points against a San Jose team that has yet to win on the road (0-6-3) this season.

Bradley liked his team’s response in the second half, if not the ending.

“We do step up in a more aggressive way, we do play at a higher tempo,” he said. “And now you’ve got to finish the game. It’s just a game you have to win. We let the points slide.”

More work is needed on closing out a game.

“At the end, when everything requires that extra little bit of concentration, that extra little bit of knowing what every moment’s about, you’ve got to have everybody understanding,” said Bradley. “Even if you have a large percentage of the guys on the field at that moment who understand it, if a couple don’t then you can still pay the price.”

The ‘Quakes (4-7-7) now are unbeaten in their last four meetings (1-0-3) with Toronto.

Ebobisse scored his 10th of the season to put the ‘Quakes ahead in the 26th minute.

But after a unproductive opening 45 minutes, Toronto came out with more purpose in the second half and finally beat ‘Quakes goalkeeper J.T. Marcinkowski in the 71st minute on a rapid-fire counterattack.

Osorio sent the ball ahead to Kerr and, with the defence backing away, the 19-year-old homegrown product curled a low shot from just outside the penalty box past Marcinkowski into the corner for his third of the season.

Four minutes later Kerr played provider, sending a ball into the box that hit a defender and found Osorio on a late run. The Canadian midfielder made no mistake from point-blank range to notch his fifth of the campaign.

Saturday’s contest was a matchup of the league’s two worst defences, with Toronto 27th (conceding 1.89 goals a game on average) and San Jose 28th (2.06 goals per game).

The game followed a week of wheeling and dealing that saw Toronto ship Spanish playmaker Alejandro Pozuelo to Inter Miami for a modest return and acquire Canadian midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye from the Colorado Rapids for a hefty price. The future of star centre back Carlos Salcedo, like Pozuelo a designated player, remains up in the air with the expectation he is headed back to Mexico for family reasons.

Salcedo was not in the matchday squad, but posted the latest in a string of cryptic tweets. The post showed a play button next to “Mx ?” suggesting the move to Mexico’s Liga MX is a done deal.

“I don’t think anything’s final but it’s such that he will likely end up with a club in Mexico,” said Bradley. “For (his) personal, family situation, it was important for him to be back (there).”

Kaye, meanwhile, has yet to arrive in the city,

With the MLS secondary transfer window opening Thursday, fans had hoped to see Italian star Lorenzo Insigne on the field. But the former Napoli captain, whose move to Toronto following the end of the Italian season was announced six months ago, has had his TFC debut pushed back to later this month because of a calf injury sustained in Europe.

The 31-year-old Insigne watched from the stands, signing autographs before the game. Former Toronto midfielder Ralph Priso, who is headed to Colorado in the Kaye trade, was also in attendance.

Fellow Italian Domenico Criscito, a former Genoa captain, made his first start. The 35-year-old left back took corners, looked composed on the ball and showed a deft passing touch. Suffering from cramps, he came off in the 80th minute to applause from the announced crowd of 27,149.

Toronto had more of the ball early but failed to do anything with it.

San Jose scored on its first shot on target, taking advantage of a Toronto giveaway in its own end. Benji Kikanovic threaded a ball between Michael Bradley and Shane O’Neill and Ebobisse slid a right-footed shot past Westberg into the corner of goal.

The giveaway came after Toronto defender Chris Mavinga, from the corner, sent a dangerous ball back into the middle of the field in the direction of Jayden Nelson.

TFC has not posted a shutout in league play since Sept. 25, 2021, in a 0-0 draw at Colorado with the run of MLS games without a clean sheet now at 27 games.

San Jose parted ways with coach Matias Almeyda after going winless in its first seven games (0-4-3). Alex Covelo, who was head coach of the Earthquakes II in MLS Next Pro, is now 4-3-4 as interim manager.

Kylie Jenner, 24, and Travis Scott, 31, turned heads on July 9 when they enjoyed a night out alone together. The reality star and rapper, who share four-year-old daughter Stormi and a five-month-old son together, were photographed holding hands as they walked outside Catch restaurant in West Hollywood, CA. She wore a peach-colored long-sleeved mini dress and tan open-toed heels while he wore a graphic sweatshirt, jeans, and white sneakers.

Kylie and Travis’ latest dinner date comes just three days after the former made headlines for denying allegations made by an Instacart worker. The delivery driver and TikTok user, named Pablo Tamayo, claimed he delivered food to her house on July 6 and heard a baby scream inside. “It’s literally a $12 order for f**king pepperoni. This b***h could’ve paid me more,” he said about the alleged delivery, in a TikTok video. “It’s under the name of Ashton, so I’m guessing it’s for her assistant or something.”

After further revealing he allegedly showed up to the house and was let in the gate, he claimed someone let him in for a second. “He’s like ‘Oh come with me just to bring it in there,’” he said. “I literally walk with him. The gate is closing behind me. I’m walking through this little pathway with like a river beneath it, and then, I just leave it at the front door. I get to look into the whole house. I see all these assistants. All these maids and s**t. I didn’t see Kylie. I didn’t see Stormi, but I swear I heard a baby scream.”

After the clip went viral, Kylie addressed the claims in now-deleted comments on social media and although she didn’t seem to deny he actually did deliver the pepperoni to her house, she did deny he was able to look in and hear her son cry. “No one comes through the gate! the river ?? no river. the lying for attention rubs me the wrong way sorry,” she wrote according to E! News. “I did not order this myself. ! he WAS tipped through the app. lied too about seeing through my windows and hearing my son cry. ??”

Elon Musk told Twitter on Friday that he is “terminating” his proposed acquisition of the social media company, arguing in a letter that the company was in “breach” of the merger agreement.

Musk’s letter said that he wants out of the deal “because Twitter is in material breach of multiple provisions of that Agreement, appears to have made false and misleading representations upon which Mr. Musk relied when entering into the Merger Agreement, and is likely to suffer a Company Material Adverse Effect (as that term is defined in the Merger Agreement).”

In turn, Twitter said it will pursue legal action against Musk to ensure the deal goes through at the agreed upon terms.

“The Twitter Board is committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk and plans to pursue legal action to encore the merger agreement. We are confident we will prevail in the Delaware Court of Chancery,” Bret Taylor, chair of Twitter’s board tweeted Friday.

Specifically, Musk once again said that Twitter did not provide enough information about its bot and spam accounts on the platform, and did not give Musk and his team enough data to conduct their own analysis.

“In short, Twitter has not provided information that Mr. Musk has requested for nearly two months notwithstanding his repeated, detailed clarifications intended to simplify Twitter’s identification, collection, and disclosure of the most relevant information sought in Mr. Musk’s original requests,” the Friday letter said. “While Twitter has provided some information, that information has come with strings attached, use limitations or other artificial formatting features, which has rendered some of the information minimally useful to Mr. Musk and his advisors.”

And Musk also claimed that some key executive departures at the company, layoffs, and a hiring freeze were all made without first consulting him, which he says is also a breach of the deal.

Per the deal, Musk may also be on the hook to pay a $1 billion breakup fee for walking away from the takeover.

Wedbush analysts called Musk’s decision Friday a “disaster scenario for Twitter,” and predicted that shares of the company would open in the $25 to $30 range Monday morning, saying that the Street is wary of any court battle. Shares of Twitter were down 7 percent in extended-hours trading Friday, after having opened at $37.51.

“From the beginning this was always a head scratcher to go after Twitter at a $44 billion price tag for Musk and never made much sense to the Street,” the analysts wrote. “Now it ends (for now) in a Twilight Zone ending with Twitter’s Board back against the wall and many on the Street scratching their head around what is next.”

The Film That Lit My Fuse is a Deadline video series that aims to provide an antidote to headlines about industry uncertainty by swinging the conversation back to the creative ambitions, formative influences and inspirations of some of today’s great screen artists.

Every installment asks the same five questions. Today’s subject is Dennis Lehane, who adapted and is showrunner of the James Keene non-fiction book Black Bird, which Apple TV+ premieres today, with Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser and Ray Liotta starring.

With a ring for dialogue and tragic, tough working class characters, Lehane came out of Dorchester to become a bestselling novelist. Hollywood found his books and turned them into the Clint Eastwood-directed Mystic River, the Martin Scorsese-directed Shutter Island, and two adapted and directed by Ben Affleck,  Gone, Baby, Gone and Live By Night. Lehane then became an accomplished screen and television writer himself. He adapted The Drop, the final film of James Gandolfini directed by Michael R. Roskam, who helms the six episodes of Black Bird. After cutting his teeth as a writer on the series The Wire, Lehane served in writing and producing categories on the series Boardwalk Empire, Bloodline, Mr. Mercedes and The Outsider. Many of his other books are being developed, including his masterwork, The Given Day. Watch him explain the films and TV that helped him find his mojo.

S6 Bonus Q&A panel with Mortal Kombat

“You’re asking a guy who made ‘Goodfellas’ what he thinks about Spider-Man, what do you think you’re going to get?” Smith said.

With the long-awaited (by some) “Clerks 3” hitting theaters this fall and the NFT horror flick “Kilroy Was Here” on the way, Kevin Smith has a lot to talk about right now.

The outspoken filmmaker and podcaster spoke to Forbes for a wide-ranging interview that covered everything from his latest work to Lady Gaga being cast as Harley Quinn in the upcoming “Joker” sequel. But the conversation eventually turned to Martin Scorsese and his long-running feud with Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Naturally, the comic book-loving Smith had some thoughts.

“In our very tribal culture, somebody like Martin Scorsese referring to comic book movies as amusement parks and theme park rides gets a bunch of people who have made comic book movies their lives for the last 10 years very unhappy,” Smith said.

While Smith strongly disagrees with Scorsese’s concerns about these movies, he wonders why the “Taxi Driver” director’s approval was so coveted by comic book fans in the first place.

“You’re asking a guy who made ‘Goodfellas’ what he thinks about Spider-Man, what do you think you’re going to get?,” Smith said. “He’s a very serious filmmaker, and he’s a man who’s of a certain age and stuck in his ways. You should not be surprised that’s his response.”

Smith believes that the larger conversation about auteurs criticizing Marvel movies could largely be eliminated if filmmakers were more press savvy and avoided loaded questions about these topics.

“We just learned early on. ‘Oh, don’t answer that question. That’s just setting you up for failure. Just redirect,’” he said. “If somebody’s like, ‘What do you think about these comic book movies?’ Just talk about like, ‘I love all movies, movies are my life, blah, blah, blah.’”

At the end of the day, Smith sees no reason why fans of different types of cinema can’t peacefully coexist despite their disagreements.

“It doesn’t take away from your enjoyment of the thing. Guess what? For every old filmmaker who’s like, ‘I don’t get it,’ there’s a bunch of young filmmakers who are like, ‘I get it and I want to do it,’” Smith said. “We don’t have to ostracize the people that maybe don’t get or aren’t into the same movies we are.”

For a young imagination, there is something uniquely captivating about a stowaway story on the high seas. The stakes are great, but the adventure is so far removed from any reality that most kids know that it becomes a purely transportive experience. It is a fantasy you can get wrapped up in and put away when it’s over.

Disney veteran Chris Williams (“Big Hero 6”) said it was the rollicking adventures he grew up watching, “King Kong,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Treasure Island” and “Lawrence of Arabia” among them, that made him want to make movies. And with “ The Sea Beast,” an animated fantasy adventure that debuts on Netflix on Friday, Williams, who directed and co-wrote, has made something quite winning for all ages.

Courtesy of Netflix

This monstrous adventure attacks Netflix on July 8.

One of those children is Maisie Brumble (Zaris-Angel Hator), a spirited orphan who dreams of fighting sea beasts herself like her hero Jacob Holland (Karl Urban). So she decides to stow away on his ship, the Inevitable, led by Captain Crow (Jared Harris), to help in their pursuit of the biggest conquest yet, the Red Bluster.

“The Sea Beast” is notable for its refusal to dumb itself down for a young audience. It’s anchored by interesting and fairly complex characters who actually have arcs to play. Harris’s Captain Crow is an unambiguous Ahab type, but he also has a sweet, surrogate paternal relationship with Urban’s Jacob, whom he rescued from a shipwreck at a young age. At times, “The Sea Beast,” with a lively score by Mark Mancina, more closely resembles something like “Pirates of the Caribbean” than your typical animated fare.

The action scenes are really quite exciting, too, and after an epic battle with the Red Bluster, Jacob and Maisie find themselves stranded on an island together and fighting for survival. For anyone who felt let down by the little Leia and Obi-Wan relationship in the recent Kenobi series, “The Sea Beast” features a much more compelling version of that relationship. Much of that has to do with Maisie’s believably precious dialogue. Plus, there’s a nice message at the end (though to reveal what that is would definitely be considered a spoiler). It straddles the delicate line of being both classic and modern.

Courtesy of Netflix

The monsters themselves, though the size of Godzilla and packing Godzilla’s destructive power, are exaggeratedly cartoonish (comparisons to “How to Train Your Dragon” are inevitable). This might seem like a silly thing to say considering it is a cartoon, but it’s an interesting choice when everything else is so painstakingly rendered with realistic, tactile details. It’s not a criticism, exactly. But it does ensure that the monsters won’t immediately be the stuff of nightmares for the youngest viewers, which seems to be a fair trade-off.

“The Sea Beast,” a Netflix release streaming Friday, is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association for “action, violence and some language.” Running time: 119 minutes. Three stars out of four.

Netflix will play host to Johnny Depp’s first new movie in over two years. Depp, who has spent the vast majority of 2022 engaged in a difficult legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard, has not made a feature film since Minamata, a drama released in 2020. He is now confirmed to star in La Favorite, where he will play French monarch, King Louis XV.

News first broke of Depp and Netflix’s involvement in the film earlier today (July 7), when reports from Bloomberg indicated that Netflix would be helping to finance and stream Depp’s new movie.

Courtesy of Getty Images

However, TechRadar has learned from a Netflix spokesperson that the streaming giant is not providing financing for the movie, but has licensed the movie for hosting on its platform after its theatrical release.

La Favorite is a production from a French company, Why Not Productions. It is expected to be released in 2023 in French movie theaters with Netflix then waiting a full 15 months before it will go on the platform. Even then, the movie will only be available to Netflix’s French subscribers.

The French newspaper Le Figaro (opens in new tab) has some details on the movie’s shoot, as well, which is set for this summer and will include work at France’s historic Palace of Versailles.

Working alongside Depp on the project will be Maïwenn Le Besco, known simply in France as Maïwenn. She will both direct and star in the movie, which will be a biopic of the life of Jeanne Bécu

Bécu, who grew up in poverty as the illegitimate daughter of an impoverished seamstress, went on to rise through the Court of Louis XV to become his last official mistress.

Booked to star alongside the pair are Pierre Richard and Noémie Lvovsky.

Analysis: A risky move for Netflix?

When speaking to TechRadar, Netflix’s spokesperson was keen to stress that the streaming giant is offering no money to the project and that it will only be available in France. This isn’t Netflix putting its arm around Depp and shepherding him back into the spotlight, else you’d imagine their executives would be putting their hands in their pockets.

After the end of his trial, which played out in brutal, unpleasant detail in televised proceedings, Depp has spent the summer on tour with veteran rocker Jeff Beck, but speculation had already been rife about when he would return to acting and in what sort of project.

Vanity Fair (opens in new tab) quotes a movie industry source in their report on the announcement of Depp’s involvement in the project, who tells the magazine: “I think it’s just going to take one studio hiring him. Maybe he has to make an independent film or make something that’s outside the studio system for it to be acceptable to hire him again.”

It seems Depp has made that precise move. An independent movie, shot in Europe away from the surroundings of his trial, as a first step back. Whether Vanity Fair’s source proves to be correct and a Hollywood studio will book Depp once again, only time will tell.

The Dark Knight fans can rejoice because the long-awaited Batman: The Long Halloween-Deluxe Edition will receive a 4K Ultra and Blu-ray release. Fans can expect the edition to arrive on September 20, with standard Blu-ray, DVD, and digital releases coming later.

According to the press release, the film was inspired by the iconic mid-1990s DC comic book by Jeph Loeb and the late Tim Sale. It begins as atrocious serial killings on holidays in Gotham City send The World’s Greatest Detective into action confronting both organized crime and a unified front of classic DC Super-Villains while attempting to stop the mysterious murderer. The film was originally released as a two-part film, and both films still stand at 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Check out the trailer below:

A new featurette called Batman: The Long Halloween – Evolution of Evil will focus on the mystery surrounding the Holiday Killer, who shrouds Gotham in a sinister of darkness forcing Batman to stop the villain’s assault on the city.  This is a comprehensive look at The Long Halloween with the original writer, Jeph Loeb, and filmmakers.

Directed by Chris Palmer and written by Time Sheridan, the film features the voice acting talents of Jensen Ackles as Batman; the late Naya Rivera as Catwoman; Josh Duhamel as Two-Face; Billy Burke as Commissioner James Gordon; Katee Sackhoff as Poison Ivy; Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone; Julie Nathanson; Troy Baker as Joker; and more. Producers include Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau and supervising producer Butch Lukic.

Additional cast includes Robin Atkin Downes, John DiMaggio, Laila Berzins, Jim Pirri, and Zach Callison with additional voice work from Gary LeRoi Gray, Rick Wasserman, Frances Callier, and Greg Chun. Michael Uslan and Sam Register serve as executive producers.

It will be released on Movies Anywhere, a digital movie platform that enables movie fans to discover, access, and watch their favorite digital movies in one place. Movies Anywhere brings together a library of nearly 7,500 digital movies from Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Film, The Walt Disney Studios (including Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm), and Universal Pictures (including DreamWorks and Illumination Entertainment) and Warner Bros.

The Dark Knight fans can rejoice because

Thor’s history in the MCU has been a tumultuous one, both in terms of his story, and the reception of his films.  First appearing in 2011’s Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film had a positive reception, with most of the praise geared at the setting of Azgard and the character Loki. Then MCU released The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World, both directed by Alan Taylor. These two films were not received as favorably with fans and critics alike picking apart the movie. To make matters worse, even Taylor had expressed dissatisfaction with how the film turned out after its release. While there was some positive attention given to the performances by Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, overall these were generally considered the weakest films in the MCU.

Courtesy of Marvel Entertainment

MCU continued pushing on to release Avengers: Age of Ultron and then Thor Ragnarok, which was directed by Taika Waititi. Unlike the previous two films which had more of an emphasis on drama, Waititi’s film had a faster pace, and placed a greater emphasis on comedy, resulting in what many considered the best Thor film, and one of the best films in Phase 3 of the MCU, with praise aimed at its action, performances, humor, and score.  The film would also see the best box office success of the Thor films, getting $854 million against a $180 million budget.

With such critical acclaim and financial success, it would make sense that Disney and Marvel Studios would seek a sequel directed by Waititi.

Following the climactic conclusion of the Infinity Saga with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Thor finds himself unsure of his place in life, trying to close himself off emotionally to avoid further tragedy.  However, when multiple Gods are slain by Gorr the God Butcher, and his old flame Jane Foster, played once again by Natalie Portman, is given the powers of Thor, the titular character finds himself going on a journey to confront the God Butcher, and come to terms with the events of his past, in order to move forward.

To put it simply, if you liked Thor: Ragnarok, this movie provides you with more of that, in fact, on Rotten Tomatoes, the critical consensus is this movie is like Ragnarok redux.  That comparison is certainly warranted, but there’s a bit more to it than that.  The attempts at humor are ramped up, even moreso than Ragnarok.  In some regards, that is a pro and con.  On one hand, there is quite a likelihood that there will be some things which will entertain and make you laugh.  On the other hand, if you are looking for the dramatic moments to be quiet and taken seriously, then this movie will come across as tonally inconsistent.  Even Ragnarok, with its emphasis on humor, took time to let the dramatic moments sink in, such as the conversation Thor and Loki had with Odin prior to Hella’s arrival.  In that regard, it’s a bit more accurate to refer to Love and Thunder as a supercharged version of Ragnarok, which is both a good and bad thing.

Courtesy of Marvel Entertainment

This makes certain storylines, such as Jane Foster’s, feel like mood whiplash.  Given the severe nature of Foster’s condition in the film, one would think that there would be more moments it would be taken seriously.  While Love and Thunder do take time to slow down, these moments are few and far between, and they are often undercut by the typical Marvel-style humor that some have become critical of.  As a result, the consistent focus on humor, ironically makes some of the most humorous moments not hit as hard, despite some moments being quite funny.

On the subject of Jane Foster, the character’s journey in this film is easily the most compelling character that has been in her tenure in the MCU thus far.  Given she gains the powers of Thor, something that the film does a great job at explaining how and why she gains, some worried that she may very well overshadow Thor himself.  Thankfully, this is not the case, as the emotional crux of the film focuses on their relationship, and how both find solace with each other after all the struggles they’ve been through; both have equal importance, and neither overshadows the other.

Courtesy of Marvel Entertainment

The other stand-out performance of this film is Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, easily one of the creepiest villains of the MCU.  From the beginning of the film, Gorr’s motivation is both clear, and sympathetic, having been abandoned by the Gods after having suffered great losses.  Bale easily steals any scene that he is in, with a highlight coming at the end of the 2nd act.  Without giving much away, the setting of this particular scene allows for unique coloring and lighting, and given the redesign of the character from the comics, makes Gorr feel like a creature out of a horror film.

In fact, thematically, the film covers the ideas of confronting death and losing your way.  Thor as a character has suffered many losses during his tenure in the MCU, and Love and Thunder makes it quite clear that the journey that the characters go through is motivated by death, and life moving on.  With the exception of Thor, the Gods in this movie, who have been staying out of the affairs of mortals and remaining in their own domains, they have not had to confront death.  As a result, they do not worry about Gorr’s rampage or plan to eradicate the Gods, even after killing minor Gods.  Meanwhile, Thor and his allies, all of whom confronted death, or are confronting death, are actively able to better themselves, learning to make the most of their lives, while the other Gods remain stagnant and forgotten, losing their sense of purpose in life.

Courtesy of Marvel Entertainment

Other characters in the film, such as Korg, Valkyrie, and newcomer Zeus, played by Russell Crowe, are notable standouts, getting quite a few laughs from the audience.  Still, much like the rest of the film, the overemphasis on laughs can undercut more serious moments.

The Guardians of the Galaxy also briefly appear in the film towards the beginning, but don’t expect them to be throughout the entire film.  The only reason they are there is essentially so that Star-Lord can explain to Thor, and thus to the audience, what Thor’s arc in the film will be.

Of course, the action and effects are visually impressive for the MCU, and the score is highly energetic, much like Waititi’s previous Thor film, although that is mostly par for the course with most Marvel Studios films, and given the more fantastical nature of the film, the heavy use of CGI in crafting unique settings isn’t as distracting as other films.  As for the post-credit scenes, the first one sets up the appearance of another character and possible next adversary for the God of Thunder, while the second serves as a means of further wrapping up one of the film’s storylines, while also providing an appropriate cameo to go along with it.

Overall, Thor: Love and Thunder can provide a fun time, and chances are, if you enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, in particular the comedy of it, you’ll likely enjoy this film.  The characters are likable, with Portman and Bale being notable highlights, but the over-emphasis on humor can take away from the film’s more dramatic moments.  It isn’t as strong as Waititi’s previous MCU outing and isn’t among the strongest MCU outings in general, but it provides a fun time.

This past weekend, Stevenson Hall at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) buzzed with excitement as graduates lined the halls, ready to receive their diplomas. One of the recipients in attendance at the ceremony was none other than Outlander’s Sam Heughan. Heughan, an alum who graduated from the BA Acting programme in 2003, returned this weekend to accept the award of an honorary doctorate for his achievements on and off-screen.

The honorary doctorate from RCS is Heughan’s third, following honorary doctorates from the University of Stirling and the University of Glasgow which he received in 2019. In his address to the RCS Class of 2022, he said he was honored to receive the degree and told the students there is so much more ahead, “You have had many wonderful new, first experiences here, and will have many to come. This place has given you the greatest start and I’m incredibly excited for you…It is here, where my first dream became a reality. It’s here, where I have been shooting a major US TV show, and have been able to rely on the experience and lessons I learnt in this building,” Heughan continued “I’m willing you on, I want you all to succeed and I know you will. Dream big and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I cannot wait to see what you all achieve.”

The principal of RCS, Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, said Heughan “is a wonderful ambassador for the arts and Scotland” and ” an artist of international acclaim with an entrepreneurial spirit, who passionately believes in giving back and helping others to fulfil their potential.”

When thinking about Joe Jonas, most people don’t think of DNCE. Nevertheless, the band featuring Jonas, Jin-Joo Lee, and Jack Lawless is back together.

No doubt most of us thought DNCE was done after the Jonas Brothers reunited. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. Instead, the rock band decided to reunite in 2022 minus a member but is still just as strong.

Somehow, the band doesn’t really fit into one particular genre. While breakout hit, “Cake By The Ocean” is the ultimate summer song, the band is all over the place in terms of sound. Even the first two songs released in 2022 prove that.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer to get some new DNCE music as the band’s latest single, “Got Me Good” was released on July 8th, 2022.

Should you add “Got Me Good” by DNCE to your summer playlist?

Before talking about the song, it’s only right to feature the song. Be sure to give it a listen first and then we can break down if it’s worth making the cut on your favorite playlist.

The band’s first two singles, “Dancing Feet” and “Move” have had a similar vibe as they make you want to dance and it’s no different with “Got Me Good.” Rather than focus on love though, “Got Me Good” decided to flip the script in more ways than one.

“Got Me Good” does a unique take on the breakup song. Instead of being sad and melancholy, the song is more upbeat and focuses on how their lost love pulled their own tricks on them. Additionally, the song doesn’t bash the person for leaving but rather seems to admire them, especially with the lyrics “I can’t be that mad/got what I was giving,” and “took a page from my book/damn baby, you got me good.”

Most importantly, “Got Me Good” is catchy and it’s one you’ll want to play whether you’re by the pool, driving to work, or just need a pick-me-up. With fun lyrics, a good sound, and amazing vocals, “Got Me Good” is another solid addition to DNCE’s catalog. As someone who loves both DNCE and Joe Jonas, this song is a major win for me. It’s definitely getting added to my favorite songs of 2022 and makes me super excited for more DNCE in the future.

Maybe we’ll get a new DNCE and Jonas Brothers album in 2022. Even if we don’t, DNCE’s newest release, “Got Me Good” gets a major thumbs-up from me and is worth adding to your playlist.

Have you listened to “Got Me Good” by DNCE yet? Be sure to share your thoughts below.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Protesters in Sri Lanka stormed the president’s official residence and office Saturday demanding his resignation, marking the latest turn in the deepening economic and political crisis in the island nation. Dozens of people were injured in clashes with the police, hospital officials said.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, whose family many hold responsible for the worst economic crisis in decades, was moved to safety Friday ahead of the planned protests, according to a defense services official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Thousands of people carrying the yellow and red Sri Lankan flag marched toward the President’s home chanting “Gota, go home.” The police fired tear gas to deter the surging crowds. The crowd swept past the policemen and breached the barricades to break into the president’s office and residence. Visuals from local media showed people roaming through the president’s house taking selfies and taking a dip in the swimming pool.

“We are desperate,” said Himantha Wickremerathne, a 34-year-old lawyer who joined the protests. “People from all walks of life have united with one intention — to demand that the corrupt president who clearly does not have a mandate, to step down.”

By the afternoon, people began to pour into Colombo from other regions traveling by trains. Sanath Jayasuriya, a former captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team joined protesters at a major protest site. Asking the president to step down he said, “The siege is over. Your bastion has fallen.”

Sri Lanka has been in the grip of an unprecedented economic crisis as fuel has nearly run out and food inflation has shot up to 80 percent. It’s defaulted on its foreign debt repayment and is in talks with the International Monetary Fund for a bailout package.

For ordinary citizens it has become almost impossible to survive. More than 6 million people or about a fourth of the country’s population is unsure of where the next meal will come from, the World Food Program said last week.

In May, the president’s brother, Mahinda was forced to resign as the prime minister after his supporters clashed with anti-government protesters. A new prime minister and cabinet were sworn in but as the economic situation worsens, anger is beginning to spill over again.

The specter of more political instability threatens to send the embattled country into a deeper crisis and could undermine its efforts to secure a bailout.

Masih reported from New Delhi.

Treating himself better. Shawn Mendes has postponed some of his upcoming live shows in order to focus on his mental health.

“This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately I’m going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT until further notice. I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family,” the 23-year-old Canadian crooner wrote in a message shared via Instagram on Friday, July 8. “After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and Ive hit a breaking point.”

Mendes added, “After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost. As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know love you guys.”

The “Stitches” singer has been candid in the past about his ups and downs with his mental health. In April, he penned a vulnerable note to his followers about struggling to embrace his true self.

“Sometimes I ask my self [sic] what it is that I should be doing with my life and what I always hear in return is ‘to tell the truth, to be the truth,’” he wrote at the time. “I feel like that’s a hard thing to do though. I’m afraid that if people know and see the truth they might think less of me. They might become bored of me.”

The “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” artist admitted that he “constantly feels like he’s either flying or drowning,” predicting that some of his insecurity possibly stems from being in his 20s. “The truth is I really do wanna show up in the world as my 100% true honest unique self and not care what anyone thinks, sometimes I do!! Sometimes I really don’t care what people think and I feel free. Most of the time its [sic] a struggle [though]. That’s the truth,” he added.

Mendes said he felt compared to share his perspective because he thought it “might resonate with some people,” concluding by reassuring his fans that there was nothing to worry about. In a separate tweet, he wrote, “I’m honestly so okay! I just wanna communicate with you guys in a real honest way. so I just typed I big old note out for you lol. And I guess I’m like damn if I’m feeling this with all of the blessings I have I imagine there must be so many people feeling this and just don’t want them to feel alone !!”

The former Vine personality kicked off his Wonder tour in Portland, Oregon on June 27. He was scheduled to perform throughout the U.S. and Canada until October before heading overseas next spring.

News of Mendes’ break from tour comes less than one year after he and Camila Cabello split in November 2021. The musicians dated for two years before calling it quits. Both the Grammy nominee and the Cinderella actress, 25, have spoken openly about processing the end of their relationship in their own creative ways.

“Camila and I have always been writers for as long as we’ve known each other, so we understand what that means,” Mendes told Extra earlier this year. “And we respect what that means. And there’ll always be transparency between us.”

Cabello, for her part, recently got honest about taking her time when it comes to jumping back into the dating pool. “I don’t put a lot of focus on it,” she told Cosmopolitan UK this month. “I just really want to hang out with people, I want to make friends, and I’ve made a lot of great friends over the past year. … If something happens, then that’s really fun, but I don’t put any pressure on it.”
