The Four Horsemen (Remastered)

One of four headbangers co-written by original guitarist Dave Mustaine on their debut album (“Mechanix” from Megadeth’s 1985 debut is the original version, albeit sped up now), “The Four Horsemen” is one of the many early Metallica tunes to feature apocalyptic and Biblical imagery. At a young age, the Los Angeles-based band, who relocated to thrash-friendlier San Francisco within a year, was already starting to hit their stride. The lyrics here are not super deep (“you’ve been dying since the day you were born”), but there’s still a strong visceral impact to this riff-tastic rocker.

Morgan Freeman has previously spoken out on his beliefs about Black History Month, and how he does not see it as a good thing in the grand scheme of things. In a new interview the legendary actor has doubled down on his thoughts on the concept as well as explaining why he doesn’t not stand with the term “African-American” either.

Freeman doesn’t do many interviews, but while speaking to The Times, he expressed his feelings about how he believes that the whole idea of singling out one month for Black history is counter-productive when it comes to dealing with race issues. He said:

“Two things I can say publicly that I do not like. Black History Month is an insult. You’re going to relegate my history to a month?”

In addition to this, Freeman also explained why he doesn’t like the term of African-American and finds it a little insulting.

“I don’t subscribe to that title… Black people have had different titles all the way back to the [n-word] and I do not know how these things get such a grip, but everyone uses ‘African-American’. What does it really mean? Most black people in this part of the world are mongrels. And you say Africa as if it’s a country when it’s a continent, like Europe.”

Freeman has been previously outspoken on the subject of how Black History Month is something he believes only serves to encourage a division when, as he put it, there is no White History Month, and he feels that the best way to get rid of racism is to stop talking about and splitting people into race groups.

Morgan Freeman Is One Of America’s Greatest Actors

Columbia Pictures

Whether acting, directing or simply offering his iconic voice to a piece of narration, Morgan Freeman has earned himself a place among the greatest Hollywood stars of all time. From Oscar winning performances, to roles in superhero movies and even comedies, there is nothing that the actor has not done, and he is not finished yet.

Even at the age of 85, Freeman shows no signs of slowing down. Having appeared in several movies over the last few years including Ryan Reynolds’ action sequel Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America, Freeman has more movies coming soon. In March, he had a lead role in The Ritual Killer, an action-thriller directed by George Gallo and co-starring Cole Hauser, and that was followed by the Florence Pugh-starring A Good Person.

He is currently filming the sci-fi movie 57 Seconds, and Luke Hemsworth’s action movie Gunner, in which he takes on the role of the villain, all in addition to roles in TV series Lioness and the movies Sniff and Hate To See You Go. When all is said and done, Morgan Freeman has almost 150 acting credits to his name, and even when the movies he stars in have not received unanimous praise, his mere presence has been the highlight of it.

From an obstetric standpoint, twins aren’t really mysterious. An egg splits after fertilization, or multiple fertilized eggs implant successfully. Fertility treatments have even made multiple births more common. In art, though, from Shakespeare to The Silent Twins, identical twins are weird and magical, handy metaphors for split selves, our better angel and inner demon. David Cronenberg blurred that neat dichotomy to chilling effect in Dead Ringers (1988), in which mirrored yet emotionally divergent gynecologists descend into a drug-fueled existential crisis. Prime Video’s female-centered riff on the movie (which premieres April 21) keeps the madness, gore, and eerie scarlet scrubs, but pumps it full of hormones.

If you’re not automatically opposed to TV reboots (a Fatal Attraction series, really?), the best way to enjoy Dead Ringers is to put the film out of mind. Cronenberg’s flesh melancholy is there, filtered through multiple female perspectives and doled out (a bit leisurely) in six hours of elegant yet stomach-clenching narrative. (Alien gynecological instruments didn’t make the cut.) Flipping the body-horror scenario, we no longer have a bifurcated Jeremy Irons trying to revenge himself on female reproductive organs. It’s now a silken, ferocious Rachel Weisz as two damaged doctors chasing wholeness in a field that treats pregnancy like a disease and babies like fetishized commodities.

Beverly and Elliot Mantle are OB-GYN stars at New York’s fictional Westcott Memorial Hospital. Beverly is the tactful, sensitive one, desperate for a baby after numerous miscarriages. Her hair’s pulled back and parted in the middle. Elliot is the cruel, hedonistic one, hungry for sex, food, control. Hair down, parted on the side. The coifs are useful visual shorthand, but Weisz also does a masterful job shifting between the two, from a softer and kinder look in Beverly’s eyes to the hard, manic glee in Elliot’s. Beverly has a good bedside manner, while Elliot likes to noodle in the lab with jokey dude researcher Tom (Michael Chernus), seeing how long she can gestate an embryo outside a womb.

After a long day of traumatic births and managing terrified mothers, apathetic surrogates, and clueless partners, Elliot gives Bev an injection (hormones?), snorts a line of crushed oxy, and hits the nightclub for quick bathroom intercourse. Sex, drugs, and transvaginal probes: all within the first 10 minutes of episode one.

Created by Alice Birth (Normal People) running an all-women writers’ room, Dead Ringers is chic, potty-mouthed, and unafraid to wallow in bodily fluids. There will be afterbirth. Babies are yanked out of dilated vaginas, bulging bellies sliced open, white operating-room sneakers soaked in blood. Early on, after a pee, Beverly reaches into the toilet and fishes out an embryo that dropped from her, a bloody string of gelatinous DNA quivering in the palm of her hand. She strokes it with a finger and murmurs, “Hello.”

The spine of the season is built around Beverly’s quest to have it all: a baby, true love, and a revolutionary birthing clinic in the sisters’ name. The latter institution is funded by Rebecca and Susan Parker (Jennifer Ehle, Emily Meade), a super-wealthy couple interested in pushing the limits of science and bespoke reproductive services. For profit, naturally. Ehle is wicked fun, gazing through giant hexagonal eyeglasses, a reptilian alpha lesbian who salts her barbs with copious f-bombs. “You don’t tell me fuck off then fuck off yourself, sit the fuck back down,” she purrs at a bumpy business dinner. The line may look overdone, but Ehle delivers it with cool indignation. “Is capitalism very bad?” Elliot taunts Beverly, who is reluctant to jump into bed with a family clearly modeled after the Sacklers and responsible for a nationwide opioid crisis.

Beverly is the sympathetic, relatable one at first. But Elliot is a lark, sowing chaos with her cynicism and lust for sensation. Hoovering up yet more cocaine, she raves about the future of their field. “You want to stop menopause, you want men to lactate, you want female sperm? You want me to grow you a baby out of nothing? You want me to tighten your vagina whilst I pull a baby out of your belly button? Fine. Bring it on, let’s do the research!”

As for Beverly’s love life, that comes in the form of Genevieve (Britne Oldford), the beautiful star of a TV show who comes to the Mantles to have her fallopian status checked. The deeper in love Beverly falls with a wary Genevieve, the more alarmed and out of control Elliot grows. “It’s not fair to keep her all to yourself,” complains Elliot, chowing down on a sandwich. “You haven’t had her unless I’ve had her.” This symbiotic bond between the twins is both their superpower and their kryptonite.

Not all the side plots are as engaging or narratively satisfying as the agonized struggle between the sisters. Poppy Liu lurks on the periphery as Greta, the Mantles’ domestic assistant and factotum: cooking, cleaning, but also engaging in an obscure witchy side hustle. When the sisters are away courting Parker money, Greta collects a used tampon from the trash and pubic hair from panties in the hamper. By the end, though, Greta’s secret agenda turns out to be surprisingly tame and tangential to the main story. Another episode’s flashbacks to the Mantle sisters’ childhood sheds little light on their dysfunctional relationship, except to note they had a highly ambivalent mother.

Dead Ringers – Official Trailer | Prime Video

Directed with exacting Kubrickian cool by Sean Durkin, Karyn Kusama, and others, the visual compositions abound in mirrors, reflections, and symmetrical framing of bodies and architecture. The dominant and obsessive palette is red. Cinematographer Jody Lee Lipes (on the first two episodes) includes washes and panels of red in a high proportion of shots, from pulsing hot lights in a nightclub to rectangular scarlet light panels in the sisters’ kitchen. Once you notice red-and-mirror vocabulary, it’s everywhere. The Mantle Birthing Center looks like the Guggenheim Museum decked out as the space station lobby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

For all the lush production values, smart, cutting dialogue, and Weisz’s monstrously fine performance, Dead Ringers still feels a bit much. Do we need six episodes? Must they be a solid hour each? Weisz works herself to the bone and uses every tool in her kit, but there’s just so much manic, destructive Elliot and anguished, weepy Beverly one can take. Each episode could drop ten minutes—especially with subplots and supporting characters this sketchy.

Still, there’s enough craft and tension to hang on for the gruesome finale of this limited series. Will Beverly free herself from her evil twin? Will she carry the baby to term? Was Elliot the victim all along? Cronenberg’s movie ended, unforgettably, with one twin vivisecting the other before dying of a drug overdose. Birch and Weisz find a different path out of the Mantle maze, but it certainly isn’t family viewing.

Dead Ringers premieres April 21 on Prime Video.

BERLIN — The former home of a man serving a life sentence for killing and eating an acquaintance in a case that appalled Germany two decades ago burned down early Monday, police said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the overnight blaze in the small central town of Rotenburg an der Fulda, but police said they weren’t ruling out arson, German news agency dpa reported.

Mayor Christian Grunwald said he hoped the fire would put an end to frequent trips to the site by people coming out of curiosity and for other reasons.

“The ruin must be removed permanently; it must not become a pilgrimage site,” he said.

The half-timbered house belonged to Armin Meiwes, who was convicted of murder and disturbing the peace of the dead, and was the scene of the crime. It had been empty for years.

Meiwes was arrested in December 2002 over the death the previous year of Bernd Juergen Brandes. He has said that Brandes answered his internet posting seeking a young man for “slaughter and consumption” and that Brandes wanted to be stabbed to death after drinking a bottle of cold medicine to lose consciousness. Meiwes captured the killing on video.

In 2004, Meiwes was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 8½ years in prison, but prosecutors appealed the verdict.

Federal judges overturned that ruling and ordered a retrial, arguing that the lower court, in rejecting murder charges, failed to give sufficient consideration to the sexual motive behind the killing.

He was convicted of murder and given a life sentence at a retrial in 2006.

AMC Networks is looking to advertising to help it grow its streaming business.

The company says it will roll out a less expensive ad-supported tier of AMC+ later this year. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the current cost is $8.99 per month, and the new tier is expected by October. The new offering will be sold in the company’s 2023-2024 upfront, which will include a presentation Tuesday evening in New York.

The ad-supported tier will also unlock the ability for advertisers to buy time across specific shows, genres or franchises (like The Walking Dead or Anne Rice universe), whether the programs air on linear TV, on AMC+, or on a free ad-supported streaming (FAST) platform. AMC+ includes programming from AMC, IFC, SundanceTV and BBC America, as well as films and programs from AMC’s niche streamers like Shudder and SundanceNow.

AMC+ is joining a long list of premium subscription streaming products that have opted to embrace advertising alongside their ad-free tiers. In the last 6 months, both Disney+ and Netflix have launched cheaper ad-supported tiers, while HBO Max launched its ad-supported tier in 2021. Among major streaming services, only Apple TV+ remains completely ad-free (though its Major League Soccer games do have sponsors).

But while those other streaming services are pursuing as broad an audience as possible (look no further than the soon-to-launch “Max” rebranding of HBO Max), AMC+ remains focused on appealing to what it sees as a core audience.

“Since AMC became a content company, I feel like we have had a myopic focus on who our audience is,” says Kim Kelleher, AMC Networks’ chief commercial officer, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the company’s New York office. “And the language, ‘Everything to Someone,’ is something that we’re really going to be doubling down on. And it’s in contrast to ‘everything for everyone’ that all the other players are really kind of focused on. They are they are building out content to ideally delight everyone in the house, from grandma to children and beyond, whoever happens to be there. That’s never been our deal. It’s just not what we do.”

As for the ad-supported tier, Kelleher says that she’s been asking for it to be added as an option for a few years, though the company’s need to build out an audience took priority over the ad-supported option.

“Ultimately, we’re doing it now for the right reason,” Kelleher says. “This is not going to be an enormous amount of inventory, we are targeted. We’re doing it because viewers now have spoken. They want choice. They want a less expensive option, they want to be able to choose between a less expensive ad-supported light-load option and a more expensive [ad-free tier].”

AMC Networks also revealed its new slate for the AMC Content Room, a branded content studio that, previously, focused on short-form content primarily for digital platforms. The company now says it is expanding to longer-format productions, some of which will also run on AMC’s linear channels.

A big one is Cooper’s Bar, the sitcom starring Better Call Saul‘s Rhea Seehorn that launched as a Content Room original series last year. While the show launched as a short-form digital series, the second season will expand to a half hour, and debut new episodes on IFC before moving to digital. Lou Mustillo (Cooper) and Seehorn are returning, with Whitney Cummings and Patrick Fabian among the guest stars.

Similarly, You Are Here, the travel show starring Fear The Walking Dead‘s Colman Domingo (and produced by Parts Unknown‘s Zero Point Zero), will premiere across AMC, IFC, Sundance and We TV starting on Juneteenth, with Johnnie Walker as the integrated sponsor.

Other projects in the works include an Anne Rice universe series Night Island; More Tales from the TWDU (wt), a shortform series that expands the Walking Dead universe and overseen by Scott Gimple; Jim Chee: Private Eye, a spinoff of Dark Winds; a new season of the behind the scenes series Show Me More; and a cooking/entertaining series tentatively called In The Kitchen with Harry, starring Mayfair Witches‘ Harry Hamlin.

“When we started this strategy, the goal was to create content for the fans with the advertisers, and we are really focusing on the franchises and genres that we know pop the best. And it was sort of experimental at first and it really took off,” says Kim Granito, head of marketing for AMC Networks, specifically calling out the success of Cooper’s Bar as something that did “very well.”

“So we’re like, you know what, there is a linear expression of these shows that can also work, and it was something that our partners were looking for,” Granito adds. “So now we produce with an eye towards being able to use it everywhere, but the shows are formatted in a way that they can be used for short-form social content. They can be built as short form series, but they can also be made into a single movie moment.”

Kelleher and Granito say that writers and showrunners have embraced the Content Room originals as ways to explore other corners of the Walking Dead or Anne Rice or Dark Winds universes, or to highlight a star with a fresh take on a new genre. The Content Room shows also debut between seasons, giving fans of the shows new content from those universes at an otherwise slow moment, and “a full 52 week opportunity for the advertiser whenever it’s their sale moment or whenever it’s their promotional moment,” Kelleher says.

Also tied to its upfront, AMC Networks announced an advertising insights and data platform for media buyers and advertisers called Audience+, meant to help marketers map out their specific target audiences. For example, a buyer with inventory across the linear channels, AMC+ and AMC’s FAST channels could see who is watching where, and adjust accordingly.

“It also helps us program better as well,” says Evan Adlman, executive VP of commercial sales and revenue operations for AMC Networks. “So these insights are telling us where is the show being watched? Where should we be in? How should we be more intentionally curating our fast channels based on the viewership that we’re seeing?”

BBC and NBCUniversal are partnering up on a new reality competition show “Destination X.”

The adventure series, whose format originated in Belgium, follows 10 contestants who embark on a road trip, but do not know their location as the Destination X bus works to mislead both the contestants and the viewers.

As their journey continues, contestants must follow clues to determine if they can trust what they see as their knowledge will be put to the test at the end of each episode. The “contestant who places their X on a map furthest away from the bus’s actual location must leave the game and loses their shot at winning a cash prize,” per the official logline. Remaining participants are tasked with finding the location of the host, who communicates with contestants from an unknown location.

“Destination X,” which is created by Geronimo and distributed by Be-Entertainment, marks the latest collaboration between the broadcast giants, who last teamed up on “The Traitors.”

“Following the must-see success of ‘The Traitors,’ I’m delighted that once again we’re partnering with NBCUniversal on another very smart, very addictive and very innovative competition show,” BBC Director of Unscripted, Kate Phillips, said in a statement. “With countless red herrings and brain-teasing clues, we were gripped from the start. It promises to be a hugely challenging adventure for our 10 brave contestants, with plenty of play along for all BBC viewers, as everyone hopes they’ve got the ‘X’ that marks the spot!”

Toby Gorman and Ed Havard secured the North American rights for Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group, for development at NBC, which will be led by Corie Henson. BBC Director of Unscripted Kate Phillips and Editor of Unscripted Syeda Irtizaali secured the UK rights for BBC One and iPlayer.

“‘Destination X’ is a big unique format that pairs spectacular adventure travel with the ultimate guessing game. ’The Traitors’ instilled confidence that big formats are back, and ‘Destination X’ is incredibly ambitious,” said Corie Henson, Executive Vice President of Unscripted Programming at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We’re thrilled to have the perfect traveling partners in Universal Television Alternative Studios, BBC and, of course, BE-Entertainment, for this one-of-a-kind immersive gameplay set among stunning locations.”

Managing Director of Be-Entertainment, Gepke Nederlof, added, “It’s amazing to see how ‘Destination X’ has literally taken off since its launch! It’s a true adventure both in and outside of the Destination X bus, and we could not be more proud than to partner with two of the leading content companies in the world in such an early stage of our international journey.”

Helen Mirren turned heads in a colorful ensemble while Elle Fanning and Kerry Washington were chic as they led stars at the Deadline Contenders Television event in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The 1923 actress, 77, who is tackling a role in the anticipated live-action Barbie movie hitting theaters later this summer, flashed a cheerful smile as she arrived at the Directors Guild of America to take part in day two of the festivities.

Elle, 25, was the epitome of class while the Kerry, 46, donned a sleek suit as they paused for a brief photo session before the panels officially commenced.

The special event brings together ‘the top networks and streamers’ that ‘are showing off their wares and Emmy hopefuls,’ according to Deadline.

Mirren, who has notably achieved the Triple Crown of Acting both in the U.S. and the U.K., made a grand appearance wearing a long-sleeved, green dress with a hem that fell down towards her ankles.

Ruffled details could be seen around the neckline and arm cuffs of the ensemble, which also contained a V-neck cut.

Helen slipped into a pair of tan-colored ankle boots for a fashionable flare, and easily placed her hands in the pocket of the dress while pausing for a slew of snaps.

Her locks were pulled back and styled into a simple up do to prevent any loose strands from falling onto her face.

The star added a few thin, gold bracelets on her left wrist along with elegant, dangly earrings. She also opted for a silver-chained necklace that was partially concealed by her dress.

The Queen actress opted for classical makeup, which comprised of a layer of mascara to her lashes along with a pink, shimmering shadow around her blue eyes.

A warm blush was added to cheekbones for a dewy look, while a pink, satin tint was worn on her lips for a finishing touch.

Helen was in attendance at Deadline Contenders Television to discuss her Paramount+ series, 1923, which is a prequel to the hit show, Yellowstone.

1923 has received critical acclaim and was renewed for a second season earlier this year in February.

Helen was cast to portray the role of Cara Dutton in the series, alongside her other leading co-star, Harrison Ford, who plays the character of Jason Dutton.

The premise of the show follows, ‘The Duttons,’ as they ‘face a new set of challenges in the early 20th century, including the rise of Western expansion, Prohibition and the Great Depression,’ according to an IMDB synopsis.

During a panel discussion on Sunday, Mirren joined a few of her other cast members, Brandon Sklenar and Aminah Nieves, and revealed that she joined the show before having a chance to read the script.

‘For the first time in my life, I wasn’t given a script. I had no idea what it was going to be, and likewise for Harrison [Ford],’ she stated, according to Deadline.

‘We were asked to participate, and you do what you do as an actor and say, ‘Lovely, sounds really interesting. I’d love to read the script?’ But there is no script.’

Helen added that the creator and screenwriter, Taylor Sheridan, ‘likes to write for the people that he knows are going to play the role.’

Elle Fanning was also seen at the event, and joined a panel to discuss the successful Hulu series titled, The Great.

The younger sister of Dakota Fanning opted for a light blue, button up blouse that contained a pointed collar.

Jassie Gill reacts to Diljit Dosanjh’s Coachella performance.

Jassie Gill was nothing but proud of his fellow Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh after he performed at the Coachella 2023.

Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh created history as he became the first Punjabi to perform at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which is one of the biggest and most popular live music events in the world. Videos of him performing there have taken the internet by storm. Celebrities like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, and Kriti Sanon, among many others, took to their social media and shared glimpses of his performances from the festival. Globally renowned DJ Diplo also shared a video of himself grooving to Diljit performing to Patiala Peg.

Now, Punjabi actor and musician, Jassie Gill, one of his contemporaries, exclusively speaks to News18 and expresses his joy over Diljit taking over the stage at Coachella and making Punjabis across the globe proud. He says, “Diljit paaji performing at Coachella is a moment of immense pride for all of us Punjabis. I have been watching his videos since yesterday. And they are giving me goosebumps. His performances were so good!”

Overwhelmed with the episode that has made many heads turn and left many in awe, Jassie congratulates Diljit and shares, “Coachella is such a big platform. He’s the first Punjabi to perform there. He has already made us proud over the years with his work and this has just added on to that. I am genuinely happy for him. I send my heartiest congratulations to him.”

What also captured the attention of many is the fact that Diljit chose to croon stay close to his roots and present his culture with gusto by singing Punjabi songs. Jassie lauds this trail blazed by Diljit and adds that he would also love to perform at Coachella someday. “I wish I get to perform there as well. To be very honest, I had no idea about this music festival earlier. I got to know about it through him. He told on stage that now that Punjabis have arrived on the world stage, they aren’t going to leave anytime soon. I am sure more and more Punjabis will perform there in the coming years,” says the Panga (2020) and Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (2018) actor.

Diljit also performed some of his most popular tracks like Lemonade. Dressed in a black kurta, Tehmat and turban, he was part of the first weekend’s day two lineup, which included appearances by international music icons like BLACKPINK, Labrinth, Charli XCX and Kid Laroi.

On the work front, Jassie is gearing up for the release of superstar Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which marks his fourth outing in Bollywood. Diljit, on the other hand, has joined the cast of filmmakers Rhea Kapoor’s Crew, co-starring Kareena, Kriti and Tabu.

Jan De Bont’s movie Twister is, by anyone’s estimation, an old movie. Is 27 years old for a person? No. But for a special effects movie? You betcha. Twister—which was a big disaster movie about tornado chasers—has the honor of being the very first movie ever on DVD. I haven’t thought about Twister in who knows how long. Until today, of course, when Deadline reports a sequel is on the way starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. The name of the sequel? Why, Twisters, naturally.

Directing this new take will be Lee Isaac Chung, director of Minari and episode three of this season of The Mandalorian. (The Dr. Pershing one.) Writing the screenplay this go-around is Mark L. Smith, whose previous credits include The Revenant and Overlord.

Universal/Amblin

The original movie was an enormous hit in 1996, wracking up almost $500 million at the box office. The special effects at the time were groundbreaking, giving moviegoers the most impressive sense of scale of any CGI to date. Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt starred as a pair of divorced storm-chasers who reconnect amidst what we can only describe as the most act-of-godlike week of weather Kansas has ever seen. No word on if Hunt will appear in the movie. Paxton, sadly, passed away in 2017.

Powell is having a hell of a year, following the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick. He’ll next appear in Richard Linklater’s comedy Hitman (no relation to the popular game series). Edgar-Jones, meanwhile, has starred in the series Normal People as well as the movies Where the Crawdad Sings and Fresh.

Twisters will hit theaters once they make it.

Media Molecule co-founder and creative director Mark Healey has confirmed that he is leaving the studio.

In a series of tweets, Healey – who directed Dreams – wrote: “So, after 17 incredible years of co-birthing and building Media Molecule, I have decided it is time for me to fly the nest – set sail and chart a new course – today is my last day at MM.

“From LittleBigPlanet to Dreams and beyond – proud to have played my part and lucky to have jammed with some truly brilliant people – and such a wonderfully talented community which I will continue to be a fan of.”

He added: “But a strong cosmic breeze is pulling me and my pirate heart is awakened. I’m not getting any younger so am going to indulge myself in the winds of my various curiosities for a while and see where they take me.

“So here’s to new beginnings, following one’s heart and exploring the unknown – yo ho ho and a bottle of rum – I’m off on a Pirate adventure! One that involves making games, that is.

It’s not yet clear if there’s extra meaning to Healey’s pirate metaphor – one follower seemingly took this to mean he’ll be joining Rare to work on Sea of Thieves, but there’s no indication that this is the case.

Instead, Healey’s LinkedIn now simply states that he is “self-employed” and “open to work”.

Healey co-founded  Media Molecule in 2006, following his roles at Bullfrog and Lionhead, where he worked alongside Peter Molyneux on such titles as Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White and Fable.

After Media Molecule was set up, Healey was creative director on the first two LittleBigPlanet games, before moving on to Dreams, where he served as director during the game’s lengthy development (it was first mentioned by the studio in 2012 and was released in 2020).

Healey’s departure comes just six days after Media Molecule announced that it would be ending support for Dreams on September 1.

In an article posted on the game’s official website, the studio has explained that it’s “made the difficult decision to discontinue live support for Dreams after September 1, 2023 to shift our focus to an exciting new project”.

Players will still be able to play, create and share content on the game after September 1, but it will be receiving no further updates after this date.

The game will also be migrating to a new server in late May, at which point players will be given a storage limit of 5GB for their creations.

Media Molecule had previously announced in December that studio co-founder and art director Kareem Ettouney was set to leave the company in early 2023.
