YouTube is currently developing an AI-powered tool that allows users to replicate the voice of famous musicians while recording audio, according to a new report by Bloomberg. The video streaming giant has reportedly approached music companies to obtain the rights to train its new AI tool on songs from their music catalogs. No deals have yet been signed by any major record label, but Bloomberg’s sources claim that discussions between parties are currently ongoing.

YouTube unveiled several new AI-powered tools for creators last month, including AI-generated photo and video backgrounds and video topic suggestions. According to Bloomberg’s report, YouTube had hoped to include its new audio cloning tool among those announcements but was unable to secure the required rights in time.

Many musicians have spoken out against AI-generated music that emulates their voice and singing style

AI-generated music (much like other variants of generative AI) currently sits in something of a legal gray area due to the difficulties in establishing ownership rights over songs that replicate an artist’s unique voice but don’t directly feature protected lyrics or audio recordings. It isn’t currently clear if training AI voice cloning tools on a record label’s music catalog amounts to copyright infringement, but that hasn’t soured interest in developing AI-generated music features: Meta, Google, and Stability AI have all released tools for creating AI-generated music this year.

Stephen King delivers another winner with Pet Sematary, his creepy 1989 horror film based on his novel of the same name. When Dr. Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) and his family move to a new town, they are immediately greeted by their strange neighbor, Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne), who shows them the spooky “sematary” behind their home. Louis returns to the burial ground with Jud after the death of his daughter’s cat, Church, and is shocked and horrified when the pet comes back to life. Everything soon gets even spookier, with ghosts, gore and all the Halloween scares you could ask for.

Loki season two apparently sets off a spinoff series, Mobius in Space.

More than two years ago, Disney+ debuted Loki, its most successful MCU series to date.

Perhaps the popularity of Loki shouldn’t surprise anyone since the character had already appeared in several MCU titles.

Those sure are a lot of Kang images in Loki season two! Those sure are a lot of Kang images in Loki season two!

Image: Marvel

Loki even became the primary antagonist of 2012’s The Avengers. So, people had a decade of knowledge of the character.

Even allowing for that fact, Loki season one proved so good that multiple writers from that series earned promotions to Executive Producer on other Marvel shows.

Obviously, excitement remains high for season two, which feels like it’s been in the offing for 18 months now.

What should you expect from Loki season two?

The Wrong Universe

You can tell by the look on his face that Loki doesn't know the answer to Final Jeopardy. You can tell by the look on his face that Loki doesn't know the answer to Final Jeopardy.

You may have forgotten by now, but Loki season one ended on a massive cliffhanger…and not just the fate of the universe aspect.

Loki finally decided to get off the fence and help his friends, especially Mobius M. Mobius, who was facing an existential crisis.

Is Owen Wilson using that Indiana Jones aging tech in Loki season two?Is Owen Wilson using that Indiana Jones aging tech in Loki season two?

The twist in Loki season one created confusion about the purpose of the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

At the start of the series, TVA hunters tracked an unnamed variant who seemed to be leaving traps for their pursuers.

"Wait, what happened to me in Loki season one???""Wait, what happened to me in Loki season one???"

Image: Marvel

Mobius asked for Loki’s help in eliminating the variant and thereby restoring the timeline.

The variant in question proved to be Sylvie, a female variant of Loki. And the two of them developed what I can only describe as an extremely narcissistic romance.

Ultimately, Sylvie chose herself and left Loki to deal with the ramifications of their interaction with He Who Remains.

Along the way, Mobius learned that he was likely a variant as was his boss, Ravonna Renslayer.

Mobius went from believing that the TVA eradicated all variants to recognizing that his employer only hired variants.

Well, that’s probably the case. We’re still awaiting specifics on whether everyone at the TVA is a variant.

Judge RenslayerJudge Renslayer

At a minimum, many characters we know aren’t the original versions of themselves. Thus, the pursuit of Sylvie doesn’t add up.

Loki has performed this logical deduction and picked sides. Just when he’s ready to tell Mobius, he realizes that the TVA worker doesn’t know him.

Instead, Loki has somehow transitioned to an alternate universe, one where a Kang the Conqueror variant runs the TVA.

Where Is Sylvie?

I'm a bit worried about Sylvie's self-esteem in Loki season two.I'm a bit worried about Sylvie's self-esteem in Loki season two.

The teasers and trailers for Loki season two have hyped a clever premise.

Now that Sylvie has gone it alone, she’s become the purest form of Loki, the MCU’s most self-centered character.

Sylvie apparently does whatever it takes to survive now, and that includes working at McDonald’s.

Loki and SylvieLoki and Sylvie

Photo: Marvel

Marvel has added a fast-food tie-in as part of season two. When Loki finally reunites with Sylvie, she’s asking whether a customer wants fries with that.

Her actions and the reunion itself raise questions about where this conversation occurs.

Did the death of He Who Remains undo the natural order of the MCU’s primary universe?

Source: Marvel Studios

When Sylvie strikes down He Who Remains, his final words are, “See you soon!” and he winks confidently.

Then, the universe seemingly splits into countless universes comprising a multiverse.

Before slaying the Kang variant, Sylvie transported Kang…somewhere. Has she since joined him in this realm?

Photo: Marvel

Alternatively, does the new version of Mobius know how to hop around the multiverse?

The casting of Ke Huy Quan as Ouroboros could hint at this possibility. As the inventor of all TVA tech, Ouroboros may have mastered dimensional travel.

What Are Sylvie and Loki’s Goals Now?

Source: Marvel Studios

Here’s the most intriguing thought for season two. We really don’t know either Loki variant’s motives.

Presumably, Loki wants to stop He Who Remains, whom the trickster deity doesn’t even know is dead.

Sylvie ejected Loki from the Citadel at the end of time and space before she murdered the final Kang variant.

LokiLoki

Photo by Chuck Zlotnick. ©Marvel Studios

When Loki encountered Mobius V. 2.0 for the first time, the Norseman worried that He Who Remains has “seen everything” and “knows everything.”

In short, Loki’s actions at the end of season one suggest that he perceives the Kang variants as civilization’s greatest threat.

Presumably, Loki’s priorities are (in no particular order) finding Sylvie, stopping Kang, and returning to his own universe.

Loki and SylvieLoki and Sylvie

Photo: Marvel

I’m just guessing on all those, though. As for Sylvie, I don’t even have a clue.

Her priority thus far has been controlling her own fate and eschewing whatever destiny the TVA believed inevitable for her.

In a way, we could argue that Sylvie is now the most powerful being in the MCU.

Sylvie kills KangSylvie kills Kang

Photo: The Direct

After all, Sylvie killed the most powerful of all Kangs. She also manipulated and/or outsmarted Loki, her variant. She’s a threat.

But what does Sylvie want?

We’ll presumably learn this in season two. While you’re anticipating the (possibly) tender reunion between Loki and her, you should remember this, though.

Source: Marvel Studios

Sylvie is in it for Sylvie, and she’s strong enough to kill He Who Remains.

This person may be the worst threat to the MCU. Then again, it might be…

The Victor Timely Decision

Image: Disney

I’ve criticized the lackluster quality of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania repeatedly this year.

While doing so, I’ve acknowledged that the third Ant-Man story nailed its most important component.

Marvel hired the perfect actor to portray Kang the Conqueror in the MCU.

As a reminder, that casting technically occurred for Loki season one, when actor Jonathan Majors appeared in the climactic episode.

At the time, Majors played He Who Remains, apparently the most powerful of all versions of the multiversal Kang.

The Kang Quantumania posterThe Kang Quantumania poster

Marvel built an entire multi-franchise story arc around this character. Then, a girlfriend of Majors accused him of assault.

Currently, Majors faces charges that remain unresolved in court. Meanwhile, some reports suggest his accuser has fled the country. It’s a mess, y’all.

Disney must decide how to approach the presence of Majors in the MCU.

Source: Marvel Studios

While the actor defends himself in court, the best decision for all involved seems to be a Marvel/Majors divorce.

Will Disney recast Majors at some point in season two of Loki? I suspect it’s a distinct possibility.

There’s a chance that Marvel is willing to give Majors a chance to prove his innocence in court, though.

The Kang Dynasty posterThe Kang Dynasty poster

So, the behind-the-scenes drama here may match anything that happens on screen during Loki season two.

No matter the resolution there, we should keep in mind that Victor Timely is a Kang variant with a nefarious goal, though.

Sylvie pulls out her stabbing sword and prepares to use it again in Loki season two.Sylvie pulls out her stabbing sword and prepares to use it again in Loki season two.

Image: Marvel

This version of Kang seeks to do…something in the past to conquer the timeline at a point before any Avengers can stop him.

Can Loki and/or Sylvie prevent that? We’ll find out over the next six weeks!

Summary

  • James Gunn wants experienced superhero directors for his new DCU, and Matthew Vaughn could be one of them.
  • Vaughn has had conversations with Gunn about joining the DC franchise, although he is currently focused on creating his own projects.
  • The only available movie for Vaughn in the upcoming DCU projects is The Authority, which would be a good fit given his experience with the X-Men and the anti-hero theme of the story.

James Gunn is building a new DCU, and he wants to surround himself with experienced directors in the world of superheroes. And Matthew Vaughn could be one of them. Vaughn began his directing career in 2004 with Layer Cake, a crime thriller starring Daniel Craig. In 2007, he released his first film adaptation with Stardust, based on the novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman. And in 2010 he made the leap to superhero movies with Kick-Ass. Although at the time the film did not have the expected impact, over the years it became almost a cult film, with fans praising the director’s work with the creation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.

His efforts with the project led him to be chosen to direct X-Men: First Class, the first installment of the saga led by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. And although he did not direct any of the following, he did write X-Men: Days of Future Past in addition to producing it while working on the adaptation of another comic, Kingsman, turning it into a successful film franchise.

Given his vast experience and the acclaim he has received, Vaughn is one of those directors that any great saga would surely want to have on board. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if James Gunn and the new DCU wanted to recruit him.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on his Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, Vaughn revealed that he has had conversations with Gunn about joining the franchise in the future:

“DC has reached out and Gunn and Peter, we’ve been talking. Never say never, at the moment I’m enjoying creating my own things. The franchise is in the best hands, so let’s see what happens.”

Related: Warner Bros. is Reportedly Not Letting James Gunn Have Total Creative Control Over the DCU

Which DCU Upcoming Projects Would Be a Good Fit for Matthew Vaughn?

DC Comics

Many of the upcoming projects in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU have already chosen their creative teams. The director of Guardians of the Galaxy himself took charge of the script and will sit in the director’s chair for Superman: Legacy, and also wrote the scripts for Creature Commandos, an animated series that will premiere on Max.

Although it doesn’t even have a release date, the next Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, also already has a director assigned. Andy Muschietti, who brought The Flash to the screen, will continue working with Warner Bros. and DC on the new Caped Crusader film. Swamp Thing also already has its director assigned, which will be Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s James Mangold.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hasn’t chosen its director yet, but the studio will most likely assign a woman to direct Kara Zor-El’s next adventure. So the only movie that would be available for Vaughn is The Authority, which would undoubtedly be a good story for him.

Vaughn’s experience working with the X-Men positions him as a good candidate for The Authority. In the universe of mutants there are two factions, those led by Charles Xavier and those led by Magneto. The first group complies with the rules imposed by society, despite often being marginalized. While the other group seeks to place themselves above the rest of humanity in response to the mistreatment they have received.

The Authority follows a group of anti-heroes who do not allow themselves to be controlled by others, making it clear that their powers give them a status that no one else can have, acting without caring about the consequences of their actions.

Summary James Gunn wants experienced

“When we finished the Bethesda acquisition, there was this great moment. We were able to put a bunch of the back catalog games [on Game Pass] and celebrate their history. The truth of the matter is that, with Activision Blizzard King, the regulatory process took so long.

And frankly, there was a lot of uncertainty in that process up until really a week before we closed, or the week of, when the CMA finally came down to their decision, that we weren’t able to get on that back catalog work. So now that the deal is closed, we’re starting that work.”

So the answer is in the article, interesting.

Known as one of the leading developers of creative softwares for creative artists of all sorts across the entertainment industry, Foundry has announced some major updates and upgrades coming to their family of products including Nuke, Katana and Mari.

With a focus on increased efficiency and productivity, these new updates are set to increase processing speeds by up to 20% and double up training speeds in Nuke’s CopyCat machine learning tool. Mari is getting new baking tools to help artists with geometry-based maps and Katana is upgrading its ability to switch between applications more seamlessly.

For more in-depth context though, let’s take a look at everything new coming to the Nuke family of compositing and review tools.

Nuke 15.0 Updates

As mentioned above, the biggest updates coming with Nuke 15.0 are really all about improved speed and efficiency. With native Apple silicon support, Nuke 15.0 should feature up to 20% faster general processing speeds for a variety of tools.

The updated CopyCat machine learning training tool should see a major upgrade as well alongside updates for the USD-based 3D system and multi-pixel blink effects.

Here’s everything coming to Nuke 15.0:

  • Native Apple silicon support: Up to 20% faster general processing speeds and GPU-enabled ML tools, including CopyCat, in Nuke 15.0.
  • Faster CopyCat training: With new distributed training, share the load across multiple machines using standard render farm applications, and compress image resolution to reduce file sizes for up to 2x faster training.
  • USD-based 3D system improvements (beta): Including a completely new viewer selection experience with dedicated 3D toolbar and two-tier selections, a newly updated GeoMerge node, updated ScanlineRender2, a new Scene Graph pop-up in the mask knob, plus USD updated to version 23.05.
  • Multi-pixel Blink effects in the timeline: Only in Nuke Studio and Hiero. Apply and view Blink effects, such as LensDistortion and Denoise, at the timeline level, so there’s no need to go back and forth between the timeline and comp environments.
  • OCIO version 2.2: Adds support for OCIOZ configs to be used directly in a project in Nuke 15.0.

Katana 7.0 Updates

Announced alongside these major Nuke updates, a Katana 7.0 was also announced and is set to release here soon. Katana will see some new tools and features like the aforementioned USD scene manipulation, as well as multi-threaded live rendering and optimized Geolib3-MT runtime.

Each of these tools should build on the same underlying architecture as Nuke’s new 3D system and will be compatible with Foresight+, plus should overall help minimize memory bloats and downtime.

Here’s everything new coming to Katana 7.0:

  • USD scene manipulation: Building on the same underlying architecture as Nuke’s new 3D system, experience the pipeline flexibility that comes with USD 23.05.
  • Multi-threaded Live Rendering: With Live Rendering now multi-threaded and compatible with Foresight+, artists can benefit from improved performance and user experience.
  • Optimized Geolib3-MT Runtime: With new caching strategies, prevent memory bloats and minimize downtime, ensuring the render will fit on the farm.

Mari 7.0 Updates

Finally, along with the updates to Nuke and Katana, Mari is getting a host of new tools, backups and updates which should help streamline workflows overall. With new baking tools, texturing content, auto project backups and shader updates, Mari should cut out the need for a separation of applications and plugins.

Also, new licensing improvements should help admins better manage the uses of licenses for Mari for reduced pipeline friction.

Here’s everything new coming to Mari 7.0:

  • New baking tools: Cut out the need for a separate application or plugin, and create geometry-based maps including curvatures and occlusions with ease and speed.
  • Texturing content: With new Python Examples and more procedural nodes, access an additional 60 grunge maps, courtesy of Mari expert Johnny Fehr.
  • Automatic Project Backups: With regular auto-saving, revert to any previously saved state either locally or across a network.
  • Upgraded USD workflows: reducing pipeline friction, the USD importer is now more artist-friendly, plus Mari now supports USD 23.05.
  • Shader updates: Ensuring what’s seen in Mari is reflected in the final render, shaders for both ChaosGroup’s V-Ray 6 and Autodesk’s Arnold Standard Surface have been updated.
  • Licensing improvements: Team licensing is now available, enabling organization admins to manage the usage of licenses for Mari.

To get started with these updates you can get started with the Nuke family of products here. Foundry is also offering an extended free Nuke 15.0 90-day trial, which you can check out here

Jessica Tarlov and Jesse Watters faced off on Thursday’s episode of “The Five.” After Tarlov reminded her co-hosts (and viewers) that Donald Trump recently praised Lebanon’s Hezbollah as “smart” and said Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “let us down,” both Watters and Jeanine Pirro interrupted her twice to draw attention away from her commentary.

The group was discussing the Iran nuclear deal, which Trump pulled the United States out of in 2018. Watters said to the group, “Iran is stronger than ever now… they’re richer than ever, stronger than ever, they weren’t like that under Donald Trump, that’s a fact.”

“Donald Trump of Hezbollah is very smart,” Tarlov said and pointed at co-host Shannon Bream. “I liked how you pushed on that this weekend, Shannon,” she added before Watters interjected, “I think it was Donald Trump that … Soleimani doesn’t even breathe anymore.”

Watters was referencing Qasem Soleimani, the former leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who was assassinated by a U.S. drone strike in January 2020.

Tarlov replied, “Okay. And Bibi let us down, was also one of his key quotes” before a chorus of voices attempted to speak over her.

Trump stunned many when he told a crowd in Florida of the surprise attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, “(Netanyahu) has been hurt very badly because of what’s happened here. He was not prepared. He was not prepared, and Israel was not prepared.”

He added of Hezbollah, “They’re vicious, and they’re smart. And, boy, are they vicious, because nobody’s ever seen the kind of sight that we’ve seen.”

Snoop Dogg appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and confirmed once and for all that he knows the most drug dealers of anyone on the planet. Host Jimmy Kimmel asked Snoop about the time Mike Epps enlisted the rapper to help him find weed in Iceland and Snoop confirmed that, yes, he know someone who knows someone in almost every country.

“Well, last time I checked I was the plug to your plug,” Snoop said. “I’m the connect. It’s good to have friends that have friends that are international and global and able to get you medicated and dedicated no matter where you at.”

Kimmel then read off a list of countries that Snoop has visited and asked him to acknowledge whether he has a hook-up in each of them. The rapper replied affirmative to all of them, including Mexico and Ireland, except for North Korea. “Oh no,” he said. “I ain’t got nobody there.” It turns out, though, that Snoop was confusing North Korea with South Korea, although he didn’t have “access” to weed in the south either.

Elsewhere on the late-night show, Snoop discussed the 30th anniversary of Doggystyle and his cookbook with E-40. He also celebrate his birthday, Oct. 20, which happens to take place six months after 4/20. Kimmel declared the day a holiday dubbed “Doggfather’s Day” with a full proclamation and then aired several (fake) tribute clips, including from the Pope and President Joe Biden.

Earlier this month, Ed Sheeran recalled how he got dangerously high with Snoop in Melbourne, Australia. On an episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Sheeran noted that he doesn’t smoke weed very often, but while everyone was hanging out in the dressing room backstage at Snoop’s show, he started thinking to himself, “I guess at some point during the night, I’ll have to, just to be like, I smoked with Snoop Dogg!” Eventually, the inevitable offer of a toke came, and Sheeran took it.

Trending

“We’d had a good amount of conversation, so I have a bit, and I’m like, ‘I don’t feel too bad, this is good,’” Sheeran recalled. “So I have a bit more, I have a bit more, I have a bit more.” As the audience groaned in recognition of such a pitfall, Sheeran chuckled and said, “Oh my god, I just remember looking at him and being like, ‘I can’t see right now!’”

In September, Snoop teamed up with Chris Stapleton and drummer Cindy Blackman Santana to remake Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

TORONTO — Olivia Chow says it’s time for the display of congratulatory cards behind her desk in the mayor’s office to be put away.

One hundred days into her tenure as Toronto mayor, it could be taken as a sign the celebration — and the transition — is over.

Her team is in place, her council appointments have been approved and her office is anointed with handpicked landscape paintings. Above the cards is a piece by Group of Seven painter A.J. Casson, with windswept pines and a blue-grey lake beneath rolling hills.

“I’m usually up in Killarney or Petawawa, you know, on the river, watching the leaves change colour. Since I can’t do that — don’t have enough time to do it — I’m surrounding myself with landscapes,” Chow said in an interview this week.

The first 100 days _ a milestone reached Friday — have seen Chow look to make her mark on the walls of the mayor’s office and city council’s agenda.

In recent weeks, she made shelter supports for asylum seekers a priority, boosted transit service, hiked the vacant home tax and promised expedited approvals for CafeTO, the city’s seasonal sidewalk patio program dogged by complaints from business owners.

“Those are just the beginning. There’s so much more to do,” she said.

But on two of her most important files, affordable housing and the city’s finances, the real tests of her leadership are still ahead, said Myer Siemiatycki, professor emeritus of politics at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Chow will head into the 2024 budget process with an estimated $1.5 billion shortfall and no immediate clarity on how it will be filled. And her banner campaign promise to get the city back into building affordable rental housing will require time and political will, he said.

“Has she made a significant dent into municipal finances and housing files? … The jury is still out on that,” said Siemiatycki, who applauded her early tenure.

“It’s a crisis that none of her predecessors were able to crack.”

Chow has already looked to make advances. She fast-tracked discussions about, and then secured council’s approval for, a long-term financial plan that came alongside new graduated tax rates on the sale of luxury homes and mulls a number of possible revenue-generating tools, from a parking levy to a multi-year property tax policy.

But asked what she sees as a defining moment since she took office on July 12, she points to council’s support for her committee appointments.

“That was really important for me,” she said. “Some of them really know how this place functions inside out, so having their experience is really important.”

Those appointments also caught the attention of city hall watchers who see it as a savvy attempt at coalition building.

Shelley Carroll, one of the council’s most vocal backers of Chow’s main mayoral campaign challengers, secured the high-profile budget chief position. Jamaal Myers, a rookie progressive and transit advocate for the city’s east end, is heading up the Toronto Transit Commission board. Even Stephen Holyday, a fiscal conservative and one of Chow’s least reliable votes, is in on the action, chairing the audit committee.

Siemiatycki said it cuts a contrast with former mayor John Tory’s more tightly managed inner circle.

“I think in terms of the culture, the dynamic, the vibe at city hall, that has been perhaps her foundational, greatest achievement, because that will enable everything else to come,” he said, speaking about Chow’s first 100 days.

And to others, that culture shift extends beyond council appointments.

Diana Chan McNally, an outspoken harm reduction worker, said she and other front-line housing advocates have been invited into city hall conversations and directly consulted by the mayor.

Story continues below advertisement

“Instead of having a stranglehold on the conversation … what we’re seeing now is that we’re actually willing to have, if not a balanced conversation, then a conversation about what needs to be done. That’s the thing that really stands out,” she said.

McNally advised on the city’s winter homelessness plan, which she said is still “deficient,” but includes some important gains. Among them, the plan includes a 24-7 respite centre, something advocates had pushed the city to include in last year’s plan, as well as additional sites at warming centres.

“We’ll never agree on everything, but at least the conversation can happen,” said McNally.

Chow lamented the slow pace of the city’s discussions with the federal government, but said she was encouraged by the working group she struck with Premier Doug Ford on stabilizing the city’s finances. That group is set to report back with a proposed deal by the end of next month.

Her approach garnered recognition from a former Tory confidant. Chris Eby, chief of staff during former mayor Tory’s first term, praised the way Chow has made the case for financial support to the other levels of government.

“Having been there, I know how difficult it is, and I know how difficult it is to get things done. But to me, she’s doing all the right things,” said Eby, who noted he was not speaking on behalf of Northcrest Developments where he now works as an executive. The company is lobbying at city hall as it steers the redevelopment of the Downsview airport lands.

“She’s reached to other governments, she’s tried to find common ground, and she’s doing exactly what you’d hope a mayor would do.”

Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling are getting some space from each other.

A source exclusively tells Us Weekly that those close to McDermott, 56, and Spelling, 50, believe “they’re headed for divorce” and that “it’s been that way for a while.” The update comes less than two weeks after McDermott was seen holding hands with Lily Calo while entering the Department of Social Services in West Valley on October 10.

McDermott and Calo were spotted together again on Tuesday, October 17, at LAX airport. In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, the pair exchanged kisses as the former Chopped Canada host unloaded Calo’s luggage from the back of his car,

“Dean stepping out with a new woman since he hadn’t been seen in a long time is disrespectful to Tori,” the insider says. “He hasn’t been as actively engaged with the family since they separated.”

While McDermott appears to be moving on amid the duo’s ongoing drama, the source tells Us that Spelling is equally ready to put this era behind her.

“She’s over it,” the insider shares. “Tori is focusing on herself and her personal well-being with the kids. She wants to close the chapter with Dean.”

While McDermott and Spelling, who tied the knot in 2006, have “had their highs and lows for a while,” the source says, Spelling’s bond with the pair’s five children — sons Liam, 16, Finn, 11, and Beau, 6, and daughters Stella, 15, and Hattie, 12 — is stronger than ever. (McDermott also shares son Jack, 24, with ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace.)

“[Tori] is very protective of her kids. They’ve become closer to Tori and she has stepped up to [the] plate and taken control in making sure they’re happy and healthy,” the source says. “And she’s doing her best to provide for her kids.”

Her very own troop from Beverly Hills! Tori Spelling and husband Dean McDermott have their hands full with their five children — but they aren’t the only family members in this brood. “With five, you definitely have to move as a family unit,” the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum exclusively told Us Weekly in December 2019. […]

While the estranged couple have faced split rumors numerous times, McDermott appeared to confirm in June they were on the rocks.

“It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways and start a new journey of our own,” he wrote via Instagram at the time alongside several throwback photos of himself and Spelling. “We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time.”

McDermott deleted the post hours after his initial upload. Although neither he nor Spelling have publicly addressed their marital woes since, a second source told Us in August that financial stress has been weighing heavily on their family.

The insider noted that the twosome tend to “spend money like they’ll never run out of it,” which has put Spelling in a tough financial spot with her money troubles “catching up with her.”

Many leaders in the cybersecurity industry believe that following the recent bankruptcy of IronNet, other companies may soon follow suit.

Speaking to SC Media, they said that IronNet may not be the only case of its kind that we witness, due to the recent speculative investment in the industry and the failure of firms to pay off their debts.

Leaders therefore felt that similar companies to IronNet may have to initiate layoffs, merge with other companies, or go outright bankrupt. IronNet first axed staff last year in an attempt to stay afloat, but then terminated its remaining staff and operations altogether on September 29 2023.

How to avoid closure

IronNet was valued at $1.2bn when it went public, however, its troubles began when it was sued by shareholders for allegedly overestimating its potential for growth. It then struggled to secure payment from clients and debts began to grow. As part of the Chapter 11 restructuring plan, IronNet will be paying back $35mn owed to creditors via asset sales.

“We will see more of these bankruptcies with highly leveraged cybersecurity companies, even those with ‘unicorn status’,” said Approov CEO Ted Miracco. In light of a recent report showing a 6% expansion in security budgets, Miracco added that, “this is fundamentally incompatible with the large cadre of VC backed companies that expect triple-digit growth figures, especially in this current economic environment.”

He believed that firms who have experience doing well in such environments will be more resilient, if they also have their eyes on profits and innovation.

The issue of tool sprawl was also highlighted, with its propensity to create inefficiencies and high costs. So it is expected that vendors will broaden the scope of their cybersecurity platforms to transform them into more holistic solutions for clients.

Big names in the industry have recently announced layoffs, including Cisco, Fortinet, HackerOne, Secureworks, and others. Quanergy Solutions, SunGard Availability Services, and Cyren are also a few examples of firms who have filed for bankruptcy protection this year.

CAA agent Maha Dakhil, who represents a number of heavyweight clients including Tom Cruise, Natalie Portman, and Madonna, has issued an apology after sharing a series of posts on the topic of the conflict in Israel that many read as antisemitic.

“I made a mistake with a repost in my Instagram story, which used hurtful language. Like so many of us, I have been reeling with heartbreak. I pride myself on being on the side of humanity and peace,” Dakhil said in a statement provided to TheWrap.

“I’m so grateful to Jewish friends and colleagues who pointed out the implications and further educated me. I immediately took the repost down. I’m sorry for the pain I have caused,” Dakhil concluded.

On Wednesday night, Dakhil reposted a statement from the Instagram account Free Palestine. The post, which was written in response to Israel’s military response to the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas, read “You’re currently learning who supports genocide.”

Dakhil added her own caption in her Story and wrote, “That’s the line for me.” She also shared a second post that read, “What’s more heartbreaking than witnessing genocide? Witnessing the denial that genocide is happening.” Both posts were eventually deleted from her account.

Variety, which first reported the apology, also reports the agent shared a third post on Wednesday that addressed the two preceding. She wrote, “Dialogue is healing. As each excruciating day passes, I’m listening and learning more from my friends. Thank you. I’m holding all our families in my prayers…I am grieving for everyone who is suffering right now. I continue to mourn all innocent lives. My mission is peace.” It appears that the post has also been deleted.

On Sunday, Dakhil published a lengthy post in which she wrote in part, “My heart is broken. Your heart is broken. I put my arms around all our pain. I cry for the innocent Israeli hostages who may never go home. I cry for the Palestinian children who pay the price with their sweet lives.”

“Everyone deserves to be safe. Everyone deserves to be free. Do we agree? If so, then we are on the same side,” she added.

Sources familiar with CAA reported that no one at the agency lodged an official complaint against Dakhil about her posts. CAA representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap.

Dakhil has worked at the agency for 18 years and is currently the Co-Head of the Motion Picture Group and Co-Head of the agency’s International Film Group. She is also a founding member of Time’s Up.

Martha (Eline Schumacher, magnetic) endures repeated sexual assaults by a worker at the factory where she’s a night janitor. She carries her trauma home to the weird Gothic mansion where she communes with a circle of creeps, including her overprotective serial-killer brother, Felix (Benjamin Ramon), sinister long-limbed creatures that lurk in the hallways and uncanny mirror images of herself. Then there’s the young woman that Felix brought home to be a “kitty,” as Martha calls her. I’ll stop there because to say more would give away too much of this depraved film’s sadistic surprises.

Karim Ouelhaj wrote and directed this film, which is loosely inspired by several unsolved murders of women around the Belgian city of Mons in the 1990s — source material that Ouelhaj unflinchingly mines to examine generational wounds and mental illness. The cinematographer François Schmitt makes the horrors look Grand Guignol gorgeous; it looks like a Dior commercial but with stomach-churning violence swapped in for chic pantsuits, a welcome throwback to the movies of the New French Extremity.

This film deservedly won the Jury Prize at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival, where the judges called it an “astonishing, brutal piece of art.” I agree, and it’s one of my favorite horror movies of 2023.

Sky (Angela Wong Carbone) and her boyfriend, Cam (Will Madden), got lucky with their starter home. It came cheap, with reason: It’s where a landlord murdered one of his tenants, as documented on Sky’s favorite true-crime series, “The Slumlord Tapes.” The house has room for Sky’s sister, Carolyn (Hilty Bowen, hilarious), and adjacent quarters for two young renters, Wren (Shirley Chen) and Amber (Hannah McKechnie). When Cam finds hidden-away cameras that the landlord left behind, he makes the very bad decision to spy on his tenants, until he becomes both the watcher and the watched. It’s here that Danny Madden’s psychological thriller takes off on its ferocious final stretch.

Some people might be put off by how the writer PJ McCabe finds laughs in sexual voyeurism of the criminal kind. But I found the film to be a smart, twisted and twisty nail-biter about don’t-mess-with-me women and the piggish men they put up with — until they don’t. It’s a more naturalistic companion of sorts to this year’s “Jethica,” which also starred Will Madden (Danny’s brother) as a guy who doesn’t know when or how to stop being creepy.

Stream it on Tubi.

Harri (Chaneil Kular) is on a train to his parents’ country home outside London when a deadly bombing strikes the station he just left. When his parents leave home the next morning, Harri settles in for some quiet time with his dog at his side and dark woods out back. But then the authorities release a photo of a suspect who looks a lot like Harri, a resemblance a former classmate points out on social media. Anonymous hands take to social media to claim Harri as the bomber, and in almost real time, we watch as Harri’s life is turned upside down by people eager for vigilante justice based on lies and speculation. Then the phone rings at Harri’s house, and that’s when this well-crafted Tubi original really puts its foot on the gas.

In most home-invasion films, the attack happens quickly. But in this tense and timely thriller, the drama comes slowly and deliberately, a shrewd choice that the director Philip Barantini handles assuredly in 88 taut minutes. Kular gives a deeply empathetic performance as a man under siege by assailants on a too-familiar witch hunt in which vengeance is the goal and truth is the victim.

Stream it on Shudder.

Bad news: The recent films in the “V/H/S” franchise have been bloated and boring. Good news: The latest entry is pure found-footage mayhem, with two standouts.

My favorite is Gigi Saul Guerrero’s “God of Death,” set during Mexico’s devastating 1985 earthquake. As a morning television show opens, the earthquake topples the studio live on air, an effectively terrifying way into the found-footage format. As rescue workers make their way through the rubble in search of survivors, the film morphs into a perverse and gruesome (and darkly funny) disaster film about an underworld god who’s famished for human flesh.

I also got spooked by Scott Derrickson’s “Dreamkill,” which channels straight-to-video era horror in a supernatural story about a serial killer who sends videos of murders to the police before they happen. The film takes an evil twist I didn’t see coming and ends with a fantastically gory blood bath.

Stream it on Hulu.

If, like me, your idea of an exciting Halloween night is to stay home with a silly-scary movie, invite friends over for this horror comedy from the writer-director Anna Zlokovic.

Hannah (Hadley Robinson) is getting worried about a bloody lesion at her hip that keeps growing. And I mean growing: One day it suddenly grows beady eyes and sharp teeth and in a nasty, guttural tone gives voice to Hannah’s insecurities. “You have no good ideas,” the creature growls to her face.

When the monster pops out of her body, Hannah wrestles it into submission, a move that unleashes in her a creative streak that impresses her exacting fashion designer boss (Desmin Borges). But Hannah’s little worry-wart parasite is determined to bring its host down, and that’s when she seeks help from an appendage support group whose kindly members have anxious and angry demons of their own — hungrier ones than hers.

As a parable about battles with self-criticism and inner doubt, the film is far from subtle. But Robinson’s winsome performance and the goofball creature-feature design by Amber Mari Creations — think “Basket Case” but with feeling — won me over by the end.

A new theory explored the possibility that Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros (OB) in Loki Season 2 is secretly a villain.

The new addition to Tom Hiddleston’s show quickly became a fan-favorite following his introduction in Season 2’s premiere. Quan’s OB is a quirky personality who worked in a previously unknown department in the TVA.

Mobius brings Loki to OB in hopes of fixing the God of Mischief’s time-slipping problems.

Loki producer Kevin Wright previously stated that OB is a “guy who’s been locked in a basement for 400 years just working away.” But might there be far more to his story?

A Fun Theory About Ouroboros’ Secret Villain Plot

Marvel

A new theory from Heavy Spoilers just posed the possibility that Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros has some undiscovered secret sinister intentions.

A majority of the theory is rooted in the idea that OB is the only employee in the TVA’s Research & Advancement Department. This means he’s spent lifetimes doing nothing but fixing things that everyone else above him has broken.

Because of that, he might want to get back at the TVA, especially since he’s now been given the chance by the Temporal Loom’s current crisis. Perhaps OB even purposefully put Mobius’ life in danger in the premiere episode.

Heavy Spoilers even noted that most of the characters in the show don’t talk to OB unless they actively need something from him.

Ke Huy Quan, Loki, OB
Marvel

Another point to support his potential turn is that this could be yet another exploration of what isolation and loneliness can do to someone, which was previously seen with Loki, Sylvie, and He Who Remains’ storylines in Season 1.

Heavy Spoilers even points out how close the term Ouroboros is, both thematically and visually, to the Sacred Timeline and the Time Loom, which might help support OB’s increased importance to the plot.

Furthermore, Heavy Spoilers mentions that OB could be another Kang Variant hidden in plain view: Mr. Gryphon. This Variant of Kang is someone who became trapped in the 21st century, two thousand years before his time (time traveling works differently in the comics).

The YouTuber points out that the same Variant had a quick Easter egg in Loki Season 1 Episode 5 when Qeng Enterprises made a brief appearance.

Is OB A Secret Big Bad?

So, what are the odds that OB isn’t as friendly as everyone thinks, and is a villain in disguise?

Well, those sinister motives don’t line up with the character seen on screen so far. That, and some of the moments specifically pointed out by Heavy Spoilers seems to be a bit of a stretch.

However, what if Ke Huy Quan’s character was working very closely with Kang but either knowingly or unknowingly got his mind wiped, just like everyone at the TVA?

This could explain his current, more jolly personality around everyone while allowing for some further twists to be revealed about his character.

Suppose Marvel Studios does end up making OB the Kang Variant Mr. Gryphon, as the theory poses. In that case, the company has perfectly set itself up to replace Jonathan Majors with a different actor if the need arises in the future.

One big flaw with the idea of OB being another Kang is that the TVA team still needs He Who Remains’ temporal aura, which, in theory, would immediately have worked with OB in the room if he was truly another Variant of Kang.

One My Adventures with Superman star is defending a major change to Clark Kent seen in the show.

The hit animated series, starring the likes of Jack Quaid and Alice Lee, just finished out its Season 1 run on Adult Swim.

While the story of a younger Clark Kent/Superman making his way in the world is nothing new, My Adventures with Superman was exciting as it turned the DC mythos on its head at nearly every chance.

The show saw plenty of new, innovative takes on longtime characters and stories (i.e. Lois Lane), including some pretty shocking interpolations to the Superman story.

Superman Star Defends Major Clark Kent Changes

DC

Jack Quaid – the voice of Clark Kent/Superman in My Adventures with Superman – defended the changes the animated series made to his titular DC hero.

In a recent conversation with Comicbook.com, Quaid vehemently justified the animated series putting Clark at the forefront as opposed to Clark being used as a persona in other Superman media.

The Superman actor made the case that it worked because it “play[s] around with [the Superman mythos]:”

“Everyone knows the story, everyone knows the myth, and it’s cool to play around with that. I like that this version of Clark really doesn’t know much about Krypton, or where he comes from, or his power set. I like that he’s discovering his powers as the show goes along and his powers that the audience knows, but ones that he’s really discovering for the first time.”

“That was a really interesting thing to play around with,” Quaid continued, noting how he likes that My Adventures with Superman “[puts] Clark first:”

“He’s able to get hurt a bit, because… there are certain aspects of his power that are still a little on the lower side. So, that was a really interesting thing to play around with. But I think at the core, I’m really just excited that this is a version of… not to knock any portrayal of Superman, but what I like about ours is that he’s Clark first, you know? That’s who he is at his core. Clark Kent isn’t the persona he puts on to fit in or to have people underestimate him.”

He called his character “just a really sweet guy” championing his iteration of the character:

“Clark Kent is just is who he is and he’s just a really sweet guy, who genuinely wants to be a good reporter, and genuinely wants to do the nice thing, and the right thing. I like that in the beginning he’s hiding his powers from the world as well and he has aspirations just to be… I think he says, ’I want to be a normal man having a normal day and I just think it’s such a great parallel to.”

Quaid added that this different approach makes him more relatable as he is on this “really cool journey of self-discovery” just like most people in their twenties:

“He’s a bit younger in this, and the things that happened in your twenties, where you’re really trying to figure yourself out, and, ‘How do I fit in with the the grander world at large?’ I think in every episode, more or less, Clark either asks himself, ‘Who am I,’ or someone will look at him and go, ‘Who are you?’ So, it’s a really cool journey of self-discovery.”

Is Jack Quaid’s Superman the Best Yet?

This new approach for Jack Quaid’s Superman seems to have worked to great success.

While longtime DC Comics fans may have had their reservations seeing such major changes being made to a character as iconic as Clark Kent, it is hard to argue when the results are this good.

This looks to be just the beginning of this new approach for DC’s boy in blue.

Season 2 of the animated series has already been announced, meaning Jack Quaid is only just getting started as the Man of Steel.

James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy could also be taking this tact with its version of Clark Kent, as the DCU blockbuster is expected to follow a younger Superman getting started as a 20-something reporter at The Daily Planet.

Yes, a young Superman is nothing new, with various versions of the character figuring his life out have been seen across plenty of stories. But fans are living in a renaissance for this particular slant on the longtime comic book character.

My Adventures with Superman Season 1 is streaming now on Max.
