Pinkett Smith also unpacks the vitriol she received for rolling her eyes at Rock’s joke — a reaction that some suggested spurred Smith to storm the stage — to illustrate how women are damned if they do, damned if they don’t. “It was easy to spin the story of how the perfect Hollywood megastar had fallen to his demise because of his imperfect wife,” she writes. “Blaming the woman is nothing new.”

“How is it that a woman can be so irrelevant and culpable at the same time?” she asks. “I had to think about the narrative out there of me as the adulterous wife, who had now driven her husband to madness with the command of one look. I had to take responsibility for my part in aiding that false narrative’s existence. I also had to chuckle at the idea that the world would think I wielded that amount of control over Will Smith. If I had that amount of control over Will, chile, my life would have been entirely different these damn near three decades. Real talk!”

By adulterous, Pinkett Smith is referring to her relationship with August Alsina, which she called an “entanglement” on a 2020 episode of “Red Table Talk” where — after the information surfaced, becoming a public spectacle — she and Smith hashed out the already years-old chapter of their lives. The conversation ended with laughter and a fist-bump to their slogan: “We ride together, we die together, bad marriage for life.”

The truth is the Smiths weren’t together in the traditional sense when she was with Alsina, nor are they now. But they are not in an open marriage, nor are they uncoupled, polyamorous or divorced. They are something else altogether: life partners in family and business, long maintaining an agreement they call “a relationship of transparency.” In recent years, they’ve lived separately. As a 50th birthday present to herself, she bought her own place, moving out of their Calabasas compound.

In a way, her new home, also in Calabasas, closes the loop on a dream that started before they dated, when she was renovating an “old-world tiny” farmhouse on the outskirts of Baltimore that sat on an expanse of land that she envisioned filling with rescue dogs and cats, and a horse for her mother. During that time, she’d gotten a phone call from Will Smith, who’d recently split from his first wife. “You seeing anybody?” he’d asked her. “Uhm, no,” she replied. “Good,” he said. “You seeing me now.”

Idina Menzel is opening up about one of the reasons why her marriage to fellow actor Taye Diggs ended in 2014.

According to the “Frozen” star, the pair’s union was affected by the fact that they were an interracial couple.

“It’s very complicated,” Menzel said on the Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast “Dinner’s on Me.” She added that the two were “very supportive of each other always, so excited for him. The thing that came into play more, and he’s talked about it too, is the interracial aspect.”

Diggs addressed the interracial dynamic in a 2014 interview with Redbook when asked about people’s reaction to the duo’s split.

“I’d be lying if I said there weren’t times when I thought, ‘Oh, man, people are going to trip out [if we split].’ Maybe they thought it was cute that we met in ‘Rent,’” Diggs said. “There weren’t a lot of couples like us in the theater community — and I know there aren’t a lot of performers as talented as she is … and then you have the whole mixed [race] thing. It was easy for people to root for us.”

Menzel and Diggs began dating after they both starred in the original Broadway run of “Rent” in 1996. They got married in 2003, had a son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs, in 2009 and finalized their divorce in 2014.

She noted that the interracial component of their relationship became a notable one as the two performers began to gain more recognition for their work.

“He’s on the cover of Essence and Ebony and being interviewed by all these Black journalists and I think he had his own stuff to deal with that,” Menzel told podcast host Ferguson. “And it seemed like there was disappointment in the community with him because he was married to [a] white, Jewish girl from some show we don’t even remember, and so, I took that on too. That’s stuff that we had to deal with. It was less about being successful and more about that kind of stuff.”

As Diggs continued to gain fame in the late 1990s, Menzel felt as if she was in her then-partner’s shadow. “You know, it’s the ‘Can we get a picture of him by himself?’” she said of her early red carpet appearances with Diggs.

“He was relieved, probably [when I booked “Wicked”], and happy and proud of me,” she said. “He was always so supportive and probably relieved, so he didn’t have to feel like he was overshadowing me in some way or taking up too much space.”

The next Marvel cinematic event is scheduled to take place on May 7, 2027, when Avengers: Secret Wars hits theaters.

The grand finale of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga will round out the stories that made up MCU Phases 4, 5, and 6 and presumably tie up the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

While the possibility of seeing Secret Wars adapted to the big screen is exciting enough for Marvel fans, the specter of long-deceased heroes like Iron Man, Black Panther, or Black Widow returning has fans salivating at the mouth.

Will ‘Secret Wars’ Reboot The MCU?

Secret Wars will presumably bring together characters from other Marvel universes (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men? High Jackman’s Wolverine?), however, the multiversal event may also serve an ulterior purpose.

According to Joanna Robinson, author of the new book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, Marvel will use Secret Wars to “soft reboot” the MCU.

In an interview with The Watch, Robinson revealed that there is an unused quote from Kevin Feige “sort of implying that, like, Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything.”

“That’s not to use a Loki-ism. [They’ll] prune everything that’s not working and just keep what is [working], or bring back people you thought were gone forever,” Robinson continued.

A Massive Risk

While rebooting the MCU would allow Marvel to streamline future stories and bring back some of the franchise’s most popular characters, it would also be a giant risk.

Iron Man

By reviving Tony Stark, or rebooting Steve Rogers, Marvel risks undermining the emotional weight of the previous films and alienating longtime fans.

While Secret Wars will give Marvel a narrative excuse to get out of the convoluted world that they have created, it could also destroy the MCU as we know it.

As always, the ball is in Kevin Feige’s court.

Summary

  • Jason Momoa may be leaving Aquaman behind to play the anti-hero Lobo in the new DC Universe, according to new reports.
  • Fan art on Instagram shows Momoa as Lobo, sporting a leather jacket with spikes.
  • Momoa’s intense acting style and intimidating physique, combined with his ability to pull off Lobo’s punk rock aesthetic, make him a perfect fit for the role in the new DCU.

Jason Momoa could play Lobo in the upcoming DC Universe, and a new fan art makes the dream casting come true in spectacular fashion. Momoa will lead the last movie of the DCEU, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, later this year. However, it appears as though Momoa will appear in the upcoming DC movies in the new DCU in a different role, playing the anti-hero Lobo instead of Aquaman.

On Instagram, artist @youssef_defenshi imagines what Momoa could look like if he really leaves Aquaman behind in favor of playing DC Comics’ Lobo in the DCU.

Momoa looks comic book-accurate as Lobo in the DC Universe fan art, sporting the character’s signature leather jacket with spikes. The ability to pull off Lobo’s punk rock aesthetic, Momoa’s intense acting style, and the actor’s intimidating physique group up nicely to make him a perfect pick to play the DCU’s Lobo.

Is Momoa Actually Playing Lobo In The New DC Universe Reboot?

Momoa has long been linked to Lobo, with the actor having expressed interest in playing the DC anti-hero. Now, a new report claims that Momoa is in talks to play Lobo in James Gunn’s DC Universe. According to the new information, Momoa would be leaving Aquaman behind in favor of playing Lobo in either Gunn’s Superman: Legacy or in a solo movie for DC’s “Main Man.”

Momoa leaving Aquaman behind would not be the only major change that Gunn and Peter Safran would be making as DC jumps from the old DCEU into the new DC Universe. According to the report, the entire Justice League cast will not return as their characters for the new DC Universe. While Gunn and Safran have yet to comment on the news, it lines up with Gunn casting David Corenswet as the DC Universe’s Superman instead of continuing with Henry Cavill.

If he ends up switching roles, Momoa’s Lobo would be the DC Universe’s version of Marvel’s Wolverine. Lobo was created as a satirical take on anti-hero comic book characters like the Punisher and Wolverine, with the DC character’s cigar-loving aspect matching Wolverine’s known preferences. Momoa played a different version of Aquaman from the classic, more regal take on the DC hero from the comics. The DCEU’s Aquaman was more violent, impulsive, and sarcastic than the hero normally is, having more similarities with Lobo instead. That makes Momoa the perfect actor to play the DCU’s Lobo, continuing at DC in a new role.

While artificial intelligence has continued to be the biggest story of 2023 (despite all the doom and gloom by those worried about its job-replacing aspects), the advancements of AI and neural engine features have slowly been being introduced into pretty much every aspect of film and video production.

Post-production has probably been the leader for AI innovations, and your favorite video editing apps and software have been rolling out new AI-powered tools and neural engine features all year.

In case you’ve missed these announcements, or if you’re simply interested in learning how you might be able to explore some of these AI innovations yourself, let’s take a look at the most prominent (and at times helpful) AI and neural engine features in the latest version of DaVinci Resolve.

What is a Neural Engine?

Before we dive too deep into the tools and features in Resolve, let’s take a moment to talk about AI and, in particular, what the neural engine is and how it works.

For Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve, its neural engine is a machine learning tool that uses state-of-the-art deep neural networks to power many of the features found in DaVinci Resolve Studio.

More broadly though, a neural engine, or a neural network, is how artificial neural network algorithms work to try to imitate the human brain, something which computers have historically not been very good at. For hardware, like the latest iPhones for example, a neural engine is a piece of hardware that accelerates and optimizes machine learning and neural network tasks for better speed and energy efficiency.

For DaVinci Resolve, the neural engine is at work for a wide variety of tools and features working to better optimize programs which are basically trying to do what human brains do best. You can find a great explanation of this in the video below from YouTuber Joris Hermans, which we’ll be referencing for the features below.

7 AI and Neural Engine Features in DaVinci Resolve

So, as mentioned above, Hermans’s video does a great job of outlining some of the best “must-know” AI and neural engine features in DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6. You can also read a bit more about Resolve 18.6.1 which we wrote about when released last week.

Here are the seven different features and tools that Hermans highlights in his video, along with timestamps so you can jump around if you’d like to focus on specific features:

The face recognition, object removal, and scene detection features stand out. You might have seen some of these AI tools at work in other NLE apps like Adobe Premiere Pro, but rest assured that DaVinci Resolve is uniquely building its own solutions to optimize your editing workflows in Resolve.

These tools are all really designed to do one thing really well—which is to make editing easier and quicker. None of these tools are true replacement features which make the editor’s job unneeded.

In fact, it’s the opposite. All of these tools help streamline your editing process but require a keen eye to refine them and make them your own.

How to Get Started

If any of these above tools or features seem interesting to you, all you have to do is open up DaVinci Resolve Studio and make sure you’re using the latest version of the product.

For those using the free version of DaVinci Resolve though, you’re probably going to want to upgrade to the paid version just so you can get all of the latest AI and neural engine features.

However, other than that, these tools are all active and worth checking out today. Just don’t expect any of them to replace your job just yet.

The Walt Disney Company celebrated its 100th anniversary this week, and it did so in style with the release of Once Upon A Studio both on TV and on Disney+. The animated short brings together so many characters from the last 100 years that it’s almost impossible to count them all. Some of them take center stage, while others appear in a “blink and you’ll miss it” fashion, but either way, you’ll need to watch the short more than once to catch everything.

But there’s so much more going on in Once Upon A Studio. From obscure animated characters to the human beings who helped bring them all to life, here are 10 of our favorite moments from the new Disney short that made us smile.

By now, the beats of an aspiring-musician saga are as familiar as those of a fairy tale. There’s the hungry young artist who seems marked for stardom long before the rest of the world has caught on. There’s the crappy starter apartment, and the glitzy industry parties, and the boardroom meetings with labels who don’t quite get it. There’s the moment when the hero hears his own song on the radio, and the moment when he caves to the temptations of fame, and the moment he’s made to decide to be true to himself.

Sometimes, in the darker iterations of this story, there’s also the spectacular crash after the meteoric rise; in the more thoughtful or incisive versions, there might be conversations about the limitations of his art or the compromises it demands or its impact on the world. But Neon is not that tale. The Netflix comedy prefers to stick to the sunny side, even as Santi (Tyler Dean Flores) faces his share of challenges on his way up Miami’s reggaeton scene. And if its relentless optimism lacks for edge or depth, Santi and his friends prove winsome enough to make you remember why this fantasy can be so alluring to begin with.

Neon

The Bottom Line

A sunny but surface-level journey.

Airdate: Thursday, Oct. 19 (Netflix)
Cast: Tyler Dean Flores, Emma Ferreira, Jordan Mendoza, Courtney Taylor
Creators: Shea Serrano, Max Searle

Perhaps it makes sense that Neon seems so bullish about the business, considering creators Shea Serrano (Primo) and Max Searle (The Ranch) have stuffed the season’s eight half-hour episodes with recognizable stars of the genre. Daddy Yankee serves as an executive producer and Tainy as an executive music producer. Another half-dozen boldface names pop up onscreen as themselves, including Ken-Y, Jon Z and Jota Rosa. All their appearances are announced with the sort of effusive fawning that, sure, befits Santi and company’s status as newcomers to these rarified circles, but also occasionally makes Neon come across like an extended PR campaign.

But if Neon loves its stars, its heart lies with the nobodies. Just hours after Santi and his childhood besties, music manager Ness (Emma Ferreira) and filmmaker Felix (Jordan Mendoza), arrive in Miami, they meet for lunch with Mia (Courtney Taylor), a label rep who casually mentions that their waiter is himself a “really good” artist who simply never made it. “That’s every restaurant here,” she warns, and she should know. The closing minutes of the premiere reveal that she’s not the record exec they’d presumed her to be, but an assistant desperate to prove herself to an indifferent boss (Santiago Cabrera). She’s a dreamer just like them, and Neon is nothing if not a celebration of those with the hustle and passion to get things done.

Over and over, seasoned veterans advise Santi and his friends to calm down, to stop looking so impressed, to act like they’ve been there. And over and over, their failure to do any of those things makes for one of Neon‘s most endearing qualities. Santi is defined by an irrepressible confidence that might read as annoying if he weren’t so darn charismatic — Miami’s neon lights are no match for Flores’ million-watt smile. Yet he’s never too cool to squeal with his friends over a new gig or a hot date. Ness practically stalks Celeste (Alycia Pascual-Peña), an influential critic, until she agrees to attend one of Santi’s performances: “I figured if you try and kill me, at least it’ll make a good story,” Celeste deadpans upon arrival. In time, their collective enthusiasm proves infectious to just about everyone they encounter, up to and including this TV viewer.

In fairness, Neon‘s Miami supplies them with plenty to marvel at. There’s the stereotypically awesome shit, of course — the private jets and the paparazzi and the mansion parties stuffed with beautiful people in shiny outfits. But there’s also the weirder, funnier, sillier stuff. An episode sees the gang descending upon Art Basel, where a performance artist pretends to shoot his own dick off every 40 minutes. Real-life musician Jhayco has a recurring role as Santi’s more successful rival Javier, who’s desperate to relaunch himself as a “mugician” (musician-magician), to the comical befuddlement of his peers. An affectionate Moonlight riff yields both one of the season’s funniest moments and one of its most unexpectedly touching. No wonder our protagonists look so perpetually wide-eyed, and no wonder they seem to be having such a blast.

Despite Mia’s early warning about how few people succeed in the industry, Neon never lets in much doubt that Santi will; its earnest vision of the American dream won’t allow for someone with as much talent and drive and pure intention as Santi to fail. (And Santi is apparently very gifted, although no one seems to be able to come up with a compliment more specific than “once-in-a-lifetime good.”) The good-vibes-only has its limits. Tensions between Santi and Ness and Mia and Felix either get resolved almost as soon as they begin, or eventually fizzle into nothing. In the season’s most awkward tonal shift, a subplot involving a gun-wielding drug trafficker (Jordana Brewster) struggles to muster up enough menace to make an impression.

More frustratingly, Neon‘s glossy positivity limits its portrayal of the reggaeton world to the surface level. For all its gushing over its celebrity cameos, the series spends very little time exploring what makes the genre unique — why specifically it speaks to Santi, what sets this corner of the music industry apart from the ones chronicled in, say, Dave or Atlanta or The Idol or the similarly Miami-set but much grittier Rap Sh!t. Nor is there much exploration of any conflicts and contradictions within the scene. The closest it gets is a storyline about a Cuban American pop star, Isa (Genesis Rodriguez), who tries to commandeer Santi’s authentic connection to his Puerto Rican roots as a PR move for herself. But what could have been the start of a conversation about appropriation, appreciation and Latin identity gets smoothed over into a more generic storyline about industry bloodsuckers taking advantage of new artists.

But if intellectualizing isn’t Neon‘s thing, having a good time is. That, it pulls off with flying colors, delivering an endless party set to danceable beats, and populated by characters worth giving a damn about. So what if Santi’s debut single “Exagerao” sounds like something less than the groundbreaking, reputation-making smash we’re told it is, and so what if Neon is better at replicating the rise-of-a-star formula than reinventing it? Sometimes, it’s enough to play the hits.

Kim Kardashian admits that her household and family are “very female-dominated,” so she decides to hire a manny, a.k.a. a male nanny, for her kids. The single mom, 42, seeks out help as she juggles four kids, school, and her businesses. However, Kim admits in the October 19 episode of The Kardashians that she was nervous to introduce her manny to ex-husband Kanye West.

“I really wanted a male around that was gonna be picking them up and taking them to sports, and I was scared out of my mind to tell their dad that,” Kim reveals. However, Kanye actually gets along with Kim’s manny. “When he was dropping off the kids, Kanye introduced himself, played two-on-two with Saint and him,” Kim says.

The SKIMS founder says that her rapper ex, 46, has been “so nice” to her manny. He’s even given the manny some rules when it comes to the kids. Kim does not disclose the name of her manny in the episode.

In the episode, Kim is honest about how it’s “really hard” for her to be a “really strict” mom and to “discipline a lot.” She adds, “My parents weren’t strict at all, and sometimes because I’m really busy, it would be amazing if I had a partner that would come in and tap me out and take over and handle it, you know? But it can’t happen like that.”

She takes her son, Saint West, 7, and his friends on a fun trip to London. She gets to spend some quality time with her soccer-loving son. She’s joined by fellow soccer moms as they take their kids to games to meet some of the major soccer players.

In the wake of Kim’s split from Kanye, the reality star has gotten help from her family and friends, including Khloé Kardashian‘s on-again-off-again ex Tristan Thompson. “When he saw me struggling with my kids, he stepped up,” Kim said about Tristan, 32, in a previous episode. “He started showing up to the games. He picks Saint up and takes him to dinner and will always come to my defense, especially if it’s stuff like with me and my ex. I just, like, never forgot that, so I’ll never really throw someone away and act like I don’t feel like they can’t grow and evolve.” New episodes of The Kardashians season 4 premiere Thursdays on Hulu.

It looks like people will have to wait even longer to get their hands on the AirTag 2 as recent rumors claim that Apple is delaying the release of its tracker until 2025.

This nugget of information comes from Apple analyst and notable industry insider Ming-Chi Kuo who dropped the bombshell on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter). The AirTag 2 was supposed to be released by the end of 2023, but then that got pushed back to late 2024. Now, we’re adding another year to the clock. Assuming this is all true, it means users are being forced to stick with an aging device as there will be a four-year gap between the original AirTags and the second generation.

It’s unknown why Apple is delaying the launch. The only other piece of news Kuo said on X is that the tech giant has scheduled mass production of the tracker for 2025. However, we believe a clue can be found in his August post.

Potential compatibility

A couple of months ago, Kuo claimed Apple wants to integrate AirTag 2 into a “spatial computing… ecosystem” with the “Vision Pro as the core”.

If you’re not familiar with the concept, spatial computing can be considered to be a more advanced version of augmented reality by combining virtual and physical worlds into a seamless, immersive experience. The Vision Pro headset gives people a way to interact with this digital environment. Somehow in some way, the AirTag 2 is supposed to be part of this space. MacRumors, in their report, postulates that maybe the tracker will send “positional information” to the headset via its ultra-wideband chip.

What this means for spatial computing is anyone’s guess. It’s possible the device could serve as a beacon to help the Vision Pro establish a virtual space. Or perhaps it may offer more precise tracking through an improved ultra-wideband chip. We can only speculate at this point.

It is worth mentioning that Vision Pro is scheduled for a 2024 launch. Once it comes out, we could see the AirTag 2 pop up soon after.

Future of trackers

If and when the AirTag 2 does release, Apple will need to bring its A-game because it is facing some stiff competition from rivals. A few weeks ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy SmartTag2 which features a massive battery life of up to 700 days plus a “compact, ring-shaped design to help you attach it to objects.” Google was supposed to debut its own tag during the Pixel 8 event, but it never materialized.

It’s possible Google is waiting for Apple to finally add unknown tracker alerts to iOS so it can roll out the overdue Android Find My Device network update. Once that’s done, it’ll move forward with the launch of the Google AirTag, as we call it. Hopefully, Apple doesn’t drag its feet and update iOS in two years to coincide with the AirTag 2.

While we have you check out TechRadar’s latest roundup of the best Apple AirTag deals for October 2023.

Sex researcher Shere Hite became a media sensation in the mid-1970s with the publication of her groundbreaking study of female sexuality, The Hite Report. Then came the furious backlash.

Hite’s extraordinary impact on American culture, and the price she paid for her work are explored in the award-winning documentary The Disappearance of Shere Hite. The film directed by Oscar nominee Nicole Newnham (Crip Camp) screened as part of Deadline’s virtual event series For the Love of Docs.

In a conversation following the film, Newnham told Deadline she first read The Hite Report as a kid, after finding a copy of the book in her mother’s possession. Then years later, in September 2020, the director came across a New York Times obituary for Hite, who died essentially in exile in the U.K.

“I read the obituary and the title was one of those moments you never forget… It said, ‘Shere Hite. She described how women orgasm and she was hated for it.’ And I thought, wow, what a title for an obituary about anyone and what does that say about our culture?” Newnham recalled. “And then I thought, whatever happened to Shere Hite? I had never asked myself that question, which I feel quite ashamed of now. But even in the obituary, there was a sense of what sort of had happened, which was that our culture was so afraid of what she was revealing — simply by opening up questions to women and asking them and revealing women’s real experiences — that they had to silence her.”

Book cover of 'The Hite Report'

Macmillan Publishing Co.

The Hite Report, which was based on anonymous surveys of thousands of women, became a massive bestseller. It triggered controversy because its findings were so revolutionary: Hite’s research demonstrated that most women did not achieve orgasm through penetrative sex, but through clitoral stimulation. As such, the male sex organ was not essential to women enjoying sexual satisfaction.

“Her data was very strong, and also it just went against the prevailing wisdom of the time,” Newnham observed. “It was really like a bomb in our culture, provoking a lot of relief from a lot of women who suddenly felt like they weren’t alone, a lot of further exploration, then, of various things that did produce orgasm in women. And, also, it engendered a lot of fear and the beginning of the backlash amongst men who started to worry about the shift in their position as a result of all of this.”

The Disappearance of Shere Hite premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. On Tuesday, it was named to DOC NYC’s prestigious shortlist of the year’s best documentaries and on Monday it earned three nominations for the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards, including Best Archival Documentary, Best Biographical Documentary, and Best Narration for the work of actress Dakota Johnson, who provides Hite’s voice in a number of sections of the film. In addition to Sundance, the documentary has played at festivals across the country, from Miami to Nashville and Nantucket, provoking strong reactions among viewers.

“I love that young women are literally buying the book, The Hite Report, on their phone during the screening,” Newnham said. She added that many young women respond to the archive material in the film which shows how, as a public figure, Hite embraced her femininity and dressed in a distinctive, glamorous style. “By the end of the film, they come up and want to know where Shere got her clothes and what designers she was wearing and they’re Shere ‘Stans,’ which is extremely thrilling to me — and actually kind of the hope. One of the Sundance programmers told me that when they saw the film, they thought we should program this because we want everybody to be dressing like Shere Hite for Halloween. They wanted people to re-embrace her as the cultural icon that she was. So, when I see evidence that that’s happening, it’s very thrilling.”

Watch the full conversation with director Nicole Newnham in the video above.

For the Love of Docs is a virtual Deadline event series sponsored by National Geographic in partnership with the International Documentary Association (IDA). The series continues with a new film screening each Tuesday through December 12. Next up, on October 24, is Satan Wants You, directed by Sean Horlor and Steve J. Adams.

Like Carti’s marble-mouthed verse on UTOPIA standout “FEIN,” Ken opts for a radically blunt approach, both in the delivery and the vocals-up-front mix. He sounds totally fried in the best way over Clif Shayne and Lucian’s rolling beat for “Pots” (imagine a swarm of those robot spiders from Spy Kids 2). On “Succubus,” which cranks up its heaviest bass frequencies into a blinding fog, he numbly croaks and croons through a bender while obsessing about an ex. He still sometimes reverts to uninspired clunkers and basic, Opium-core angst. (How many times do we need to hear about an “emo bitch” who “slit her wrists”?) And don’t get me started on this unforgivable get it? moment in “Vampire Hour”: “Everywhere I go, I keep a letter after J/Don’t let that shit go over your head, I keep a K.”

But cloaked in this album’s alluring packaging, a lot more of this strange, “bad” writing works because of how amped up everything is. Sometimes, he’ll do Wayne-like free association to land on future fan art: On the squelching “Nightcore 2,” he says he’s fly, then asks you to look up in the sky: “It’s not a plane, it’s not a bird/It’s X-Man, bitch, fuck what you heard!” It’s so dumb that you can’t help but crack a smile.

At a Brooklyn listening party for A Great Chaos last week, Ken moped around stage, lost in his own music, while a crowd of mostly high schoolers thrashed around and belted songs that had already leaked. At one point, he brought out Destroy Lonely; at another, his boss Playboi Carti, white diamonds embedded in his face like a Hindu god. Phones were whipped out, but Carti didn’t say a word, quickly retreating stage left to his posse and ceding attention back to Ken. It was no “Dre passing the torch to Kendrick” moment—they’re too cool for that—but the exhilarating music, experienced in unison by the Opium crew, indicated this was a coronation.

Rap since Whole Lotta Red, and since Yeat’s breakthrough records, has gotten brasher, bolder, more fiery. But Ken’s sound is now its own branch from that tree. The buzzing rapper OsamaSon, for example, seems to take influence from Ken’s sweltering production, meted-out flows, and flattened cadence. If Red is the Rosetta Stone for Rage 1.0, vast and colorful and dynamic, then A Great Chaos may well be the next crucial LP in this wave, capturing its own mind-numbing senselessness. It argues that maybe the doubters were just listening to Ken the wrong way. As for his longtime fans: This is the future those Rick-obsessed Opium disciples deserve: Something genuinely cool, risky, and relentless.

Singer-songwriter Dwight Twilley, known for such power pop hits as “I’m on Fire” and “Girls,” has died. He was 72.

His wife Jan confirmed a statement from Tulsa’s Church Studio, where Twilley recorded several songs including “I’m on Fire,” which read, “He peacefully departed this world, surrounded by the love of his life, Jan, and close friends. The loss is immeasurable, and our words can’t capture the depth of our grief. Dwight’s musical prowess touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many. We are profoundly thankful for the enduring musical legacy he has bestowed upon us all.”

Twilley was born on June 6, 1951, in Tulsa, Okla., where he met and formed the music group Oister with Phil Seymour in the late 1960s, recruiting part-time member, Bill Pitcock IV, on lead guitar.

Twilley and Seymour eventually ventured to Memphis, Tenn., to pursue professional recording. The duo wandered into Sun Studio where Jerry Phillips, son of the legendary recording studio’s founder Sam Phillips, referred them to former Sun artist Ray Harris. The rockabilly musician introduced Twilley and Seymour to “‘the Sun sound,’ roughing up their Beatles-obsessed style a bit and creating a unique and endearing sound,” according to Twilley’s official website.

In 1974, Twilley and Seymour went to L.A. and signed to Shelter Records, co-owned by Denny Cordell and Leon Russell. Cordell changed the group’s name from Oister to the Dwight Twilley Band, and the two soon recorded “I’m on Fire” at the Church Studio in Tulsa. The Dwight Twilley Band debut single reached no. 16 on the Billboard charts in 1975 while the group was recording their first album, tentatively named “Fire,” with producer Robin Cable at London’s Trident Studio.

During an appearance on “American Bandstand,” the group was set to perform what would’ve been their follow-up single “Shark (in the Dark),” but Shelter Records rejected the single to avoid the Dwight Twilley Band being perceived as a cash-in novelty act following the success of Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws.”

Amid a lawsuit between Russell and Cordell, the band’s completed album went unreleased for nearly 18 months due to Shelter Record’s move from MCA Records to ABC Records for distribution; their “B Album” was left unreleased altogether.

The Dwight Twilley Band endured distribution problems multiple times, including for their follow-up single “You Were So Warm” and their debut album “Sincerely” (1976), which featured “I’m on Fire.” Around that time, Twilley and Seymour befriended Tom Petty and contributed backing vocals on several tracks, with Petty returning the favor for the band’s sophomore album “Twilley Don’t Mind” in 1977. Seymour exited the band the following year and pursed a brief solo career until his death in 1993.

As a solo artist, Twilley released his eponymous album in 1979, followed by his 1982 album “Scuba Divers.” In 1984, the musician dropped the album “Jungle,” featuring his second national hit “Girls” that also reached no. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. “The Great Lost Twilley” album, released in 1993, consisted of Twilley and Seymour’s unreleased songs.

In 1996, two newly recorded songs appeared on the 21-song best-of collection “XXI.” Twilley released both another rarities collection in 1999, “Between the Cracks, Vol. 1,” along with his first new album in 13 years, “Tulsa.” In 2001, Twilley released “The Luck,” an album he had completed in 1994, and his ninth studio album “47 Moons” dropped in 2005.

His critically acclaimed song “Looking for the Magic” (1997) has been featured in such films and TV series as “Diary of a Teenage Girl,” “Backcountry,” “House of Cards” and “Mindhunter.”

This past week, Daredevil disintegrated, Marvel television started from scratch, the strike grew longer, and Fantastic Four provided a timeline.

We’ve got plenty to discuss in this week’s MarvelBlog News.

Daredevil Reboot Reboots

Kingpin

Source: Marvel Studios

Sometimes, I can’t help but laugh when I cover a story, and this is such an instance.

When the Daredevil rights reverted from Netflix to Disney, Matt Murdock appeared soon afterward.

Daredevil v Kingpin

Photo: Netflix

The character showed up in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk.

Disney delighted fans with the announcement that Daredevil would get its own series.

Just as importantly, Vincent D’Onofrio would return as Kingpin, the unforgettable villain.

Source: Marvel Studios

D’Onofrio has also joined the official MCU with his appearance at the end of Hawkeye.

In short, Marvel pulled a Trojan horse in sneaking those characters into the MCU.

Then, Disney+ turned around and announced an 18-episode series starring these characters.

Source: Marvel Studios

The new show wouldn’t qualify as a reboot of the Netflix series, Daredevil, though.

Marvel specifically didn’t ask back two of the characters, and, if reports from this week are accurate, they would have gotten killed early in the new series.

Yes, Marvel planned to start Daredevil: Born Again by announcing the off-screen deaths of Foggy Nelson and Karen Page.

Source: Marvel Studios

I dunno whether those plans have changed, but virtually everything else has about Daredevil: Born Again.

During the current Hollywood strike, Marvel’s Kevin Feige watched the batch of episodes that the studio had already filmed. And they weren’t good.

In fact, Marvel will nuke them from orbit. Simultaneously, the writers for this series got “promoted” to executive producers.

She-Hulk and Daredevil square off in what proves to be foreplay

Image: Marvel

That’s a polite way of saying Marvel kicked them off the project. Similarly, all the contracted directors for the remainder of the series have been let go as well.

Nothing about Daredevil: Born Again was working to anyone’s satisfaction.

Feige has grown realistic about its likely fate and wiped the slate clean.

Source: Marvel

D’Onofrio had this to say about the creative turmoil:

That’s a professional reply, but it’s also cause for optimism.

Marvel Changes Everything

Source: Marvel Studios

As I wrote the other day, the Daredevil changes represent the first step in a total reboot of Marvel’s television approach.

Until now, Marvel has attempted to shove a square peg into a round hole by using film procedures for television programs.

To date, the studio has eschewed conventional television processes to create epic stories.

Source: Marvel Studios

The outcome of these moves is that show creators have gotten pushed out in favor of on-set directors.

Later, reshoots have overwritten the work of the directors, which has limited the oversight of the projects.

Marvel has repeatedly hired different people with different visions for the project for different phases of its production.

In short, Marvel has outsmarted itself.

Even worse, the company has adopted a limited series premise full of six-to-nine episode runs.

The result is that just when fans have grown attached to characters, they vanish from the MCU for extended periods.

Source: Marvel Studios

For example, everyone adores the dynamic between Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova.

That relationship should have been explored more in Hawkeye season two.

Instead, Marvel has either announced or released new series like Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Echo, and Wonder Man instead.

Source: Marvel Studios

While I’m all for more content, it often comes at the expense of detailed character development, one of the hallmarks of the MCU.

Off my head, I wish I’d seen more of Scarlet Scarab, Madisynn, the Power Broker, and the Trust-A-Bro goons by now.

The Scarlet Scarab prepares for battle

Image: Marvel

That’s the fan’s side of the problem. For Marvel, it somehow spent more than $30 million per episode while making the disastrous Secret Invasion.

Thankfully, everyone has learned the hard lesson there.

The Next Marvel Strategy

Source: Marvel Studios

From now on, Marvel won’t try to force its own logic on the television industry.

Studios have been making television programs for the body of a century.

The system works just like any other manufacturing facility. Making the first product costs a fortune.

Once you start mass production, you save a fortune. Marvel was doing the opposite with its limited series. That’s out the window now, though.

Starting with Daredevil: Born Again and Wonder Man, Feige intends to hire showrunners from start to finish on various series.

These creators will build show bibles and then plan overarching stories that last for multiple seasons.

Loki and Mobius find Ouroboros hiding under his desk in Loki season two

Image: Marvel

Yes, Marvel intends to create multi-season shows now, the opposite of its initial approach.

Loki holds a stunning claim. It’s the only Marvel series to air a second season thus far.

What If…? will join it at some point, but the point stands. Marvel had preferred one-offs, which made little financial sense.

The Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright) in Marvel Studios’ WHAT IF…? exclusively on Disney+. ©Marvel Studios 2021. All Rights Reserved.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has spoken with Feige about economic constraints and just, you know, not burning money like Marvel did with Secret Invasion.

So, from this point forward, you can safely get attached to your favorite Marvel characters on Disney+.

I say this because you can expect to see them again in future seasons, which hasn’t been the case until now.

Source: Marvel Studios

In fact, the people behind Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk wish this rule had applied previously.

These people have spent at least a year answering questions about whether the shows will return. And the worst part is that they don’t know.

Marvel’s new strategy should provide some clarity. The age of the one-off limited series is over.

Marvel Miscellany

Source: Marvel

I swear to you that I could have spent another MarvelBlog News talking about Fantastic Four. There IS new information about the series.

However, that news can wait until it finally becomes official.

Once the actor strike ends, Marvel has confirmed it’ll reveal the cast and start filming soon afterward.

Source: Marve/ Fox

Speaking of which, one of the oddities about 2024 will involve the race to produce new movies.

With virtually every production on hold, we’ll witness a plethora of options race to lock up stars once everyone can start filming again.

Thankfully, Deadpool 3 has its cast firmly locked in. So, it shouldn’t face additional delays, presuming the strike ends soon.

Casey may or may not remember Loki in season two

Image: Marvel

As I type this, the latest news isn’t as rosy as previous updates. I suspect that’s just posturing, though.

Next, circling back to Loki for a moment, the season premiere absolutely crushed the ratings.

Loki became the second-most popular Disney+ of 2023 to date, trailing only The Mandalorian. It even beat that show’s de facto sequel, Ahsoka.

I'm not saying Loki has traveled back in time, but there's a Sprite machine on the other side of this shot

Image: Marvel

Suffice to say that Loki season two is shaping up to be a blockbuster. And this fact reinforces the idea that Marvel should be creating multiple-season shows.

Finally, we’ve got a featurette for The Marvels that you’ll want to watch. As a reminder, tickets are now on sale for the November 10th release.

Robin Lives! At the Gotham Confidential panel at this years NYCC it was announced that a never seen take on the iconic A Death In The Family storyline will be released. Back in 1988 a 900 number (remember those?) was created to allow readers to chose whether or not Robin (Jason Todd) would live or not after a devastating attack from the Joker. Well we all know how that turned out. Robin died. But what if readers had chosen to keep him alive? Turns out DC has had the art in vaults for that scenario for years and we are finally going to get a chance to see it! This “faux-simile” edition features original story and art from A Death in the Family storytelling team – writer Jim Starlin, artist Jim Aparo, colorist Adrienne Roy, inker Mike DeCarlo, and letterer John Costanza.

At the time Jason Todd wasn’t well liked by readers, but the vote to kill him was surprisingly close. From a total of 10,614 votes, fans decided that Jason should succumb to his injuries by a narrow 72-vote margin of 5,343 votes to 5,271. The story remains an important part of the Batman mythos to this day.  The “faux-simile” issue will hit comic shops on December 12! Put it on your pull list now! Robin Lives!

Prakazrel “Pras” Michel has entered a motion for a new trial, claiming that his lawyer blew the closing arguments at the original hearing by relying too much on artificial intelligence to craft his final pitch.

Michel called AI “experi, mental” and said the program’s use resulted in a number of errors by an “unqualified, unprepared, and ineffectual” trial attorney.

Michel was convicted in April on 10 counts, including conspiracy and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. He faces up to 20 years in prison on the top counts.

He was accused of funneling money from a Malaysian financer through straw donors to Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, then trying to stop a Justice Department investigation and influence an extradition case on behalf of China under the Trump administration.

His trial included testimony from actor Leonardo DiCaprio and former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Michel is free pending sentencing and has been appearing with the Fugees in various settings in what could be the final performances for the group, as Michel potentially faces a long prison sentence.

The Grammy-winning rapper’s efense attorney, David Kenner, previously represented rap figures as Suge Knight and Snoop Dogg.

In the request for a new trial, Michel’s new attorney accused Kenner of mixing up key elements of the case. He also misattributed the lyric “Every single day, every time I pray, I will be missing you,” to the Fugees, when it is a well-known line from a song by the rapper Diddy.

Kenner did not respond to a phone call and email seeking comment from The Associated Press.

“At bottom, the AI program failed Kenner, and Kenner failed Michel. The closing argument was deficient, unhelpful, and a missed opportunity that prejudiced the defense,” wrote Michel’s new attorney, Peter Zeidenberg, in his request for a new trial.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Young played the tough-talking butcher and brother of Rocky’s love interest, Adrian, in the film series. He’s best remembered for opening up his meat locker to allow Rocky to practice hammering the hanging slabs of beef in an unorthodox but effective training method.

“To my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG, you were an incredible man’s and artist, I and the World will miss you very much…RIP,” wrote Stallone, accompanied by a photo of the two.

They appeared together in Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago, Rocky V, and Rocky Balboa,

Plus, the giant coffee cup! Yes, this girl has been to Luke’s Diner in the past 24 hours. In fact, Rhode just launched the Espresso lip tint, because strawberry season is officially over (that’s not a fashion edict, I’m literally just telling you which fruits are in season). She’s been pushing the espresso trend since September, actually. Canny girl.

Wait, just noticed that she’s wearing a tiny anklet on the outside of her crew sock. That’s adorable.

The outfit is also super reminiscent of Rachel Green’s plaid skirt, gray turtleneck combo on Friends.

You know what the best thing about this look is? It’s a whole outfit. She has every right to show off her underwear in Paris—pants-free is the look of the day—but there’s something so nice about seeing a grown woman wearing…clothes. Like, actual clothes that actually cover your body.

Hailey Bieber completed her ensemble with gold hoops and a simple updo with side bangs left out to frame her face, and posed in front of a…screen print of a New York storefront? She’s obviously not trying to make it look like she’s outside, but where…is she? Not Connecticut, that’s for sure.

Dwight Twilley, the singer/songwriter who helped bring the Tulsa Sound to a wider audience, has died at 72. No cause or other details have been revealed.

Twilley was best known for the Top 20 hit singles I’m on Fire (1975) and Girls (1984). He performed with the Dwight Twilley Band with Phil Seymour until 1978, when he went off as a solo act.

Twilley and Seymour eventually decided to leave Tulsa to try to be discovered in Memphis, Tennessee. By sheer chance, the first recording studio that they wandered into was Sun Studio, where they met Jerry Phillips, son of Sun founder Sam Phillips

He referred them to the Tupelo, Mississippi studio of Ray Harris, who added a harder edge to their sound.

The two then headed to Los Angeles and signed there with Shelter Records, which had offices in L.A. and Tulsa, coowned by Denny Cordell and Len Russell. They used the historic The Church Studio in Tulsa to record many of their songs, including “I’m on Fire” in one night. That reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Business problems at Shelter between the coowners caused a delay in the release of the group’s album, costing them momentum that resulted in the album going nowhere when it was finally released.

Twilley bounced through several labels during his career, gaining respect from his peers but failing to ignite that to larger success.

A “Best of” collection was released this spring, covering six original albums: “ulsa,The Luck, 47 Moons, Green Blimp, Soundtrack and Always.

He is survived by his wife, Jan.

Laurie Anderson sounds like she’s ready to have fun again.

That much was clear after the first minute or so of her thrilling multimedia show on Tuesday at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. This one-night-only, 100-minute set, titled “Let X = X,” featured new arrangements of several 1980s-era Anderson songs. It also featured a fun backing band in the jazz combo Sexmob, reliable purveyors of a good time.

Hasn’t Anderson earned a romping concert? So far in this century, she has kept her eye on grave matters. She mourned a changing, vulnerable New York City after Hurricane Sandy in “Landfall,” with the Kronos Quartet. She has likewise mourned the death of her longtime partner, Lou Reed, across multiple projects — including in her graceful, meditative film “Heart of a Dog.” And she detailed human rights violations in “Habeas Corpus,” a 2015 collaboration with a former Guantánamo prisoner, Mohammed el-Gharani, at the Park Avenue Armory.

I attended and admired all those. But I have never witnessed her really enjoying a groove — at least not in the same way that I’ve enjoyed on some of her first recordings, such as “Home of the Brave” or “United States Live.” On Tuesday, though, at the tail end of one spoken interlude that detailed a variety of her heroes — such as Gandhi and Philip Glass — she concluded by mentioning James Brown. When Anderson named the tune “Get on the Good Foot,” the Sexmob slide-trumpeter Steven Bernstein and the drummer Kenny Wollesen indulged her with a musical quotation. Then Anderson whooped a funk-accurate exultation and danced a bit in front of her array of electronics.

It wasn’t the only time she behaved like that. From the moment she strode onstage and triggered the synth samples of “From the Air,” she seemed to be enjoying herself, and reveled in the droll lyrics of that number: “Good evening. This is your captain. We are about to attempt a crash landing.”

Tuesday’s concert wasn’t a historical recreation of past recordings; Sexmob’s sound is a beefier one than on Anderson’s albums. With musicians who can double on electric guitar and bass clarinet, its members offered a rich range of textural variation throughout the evening. “Walk the Dog” was no longer spare, but galvanic. This new backing-band energy seemed to make Anderson’s high, digitally pitch-shifted vocals avoid rote, greatest-hits-show style. Similarly, a medley of “Born, Never Asked” and “It Tango” had fresh, more syncopated force.

Recitations of childhood memories that appeared in “Heart of a Dog” were also part of the set, along with some basso profundo observations from Fenway Bergamot, Anderson’s male alter-ego (as heard on the 2010 album “Homeland”).

And when Anderson and Sexmob played “Only an Expert” — perhaps her only banger from this century — she also took the opportunity to address the gravity of breaking news from the current Israel-Hamas war. (She avoided assigning blame for a hospital bombing in Gaza that day, while acknowledging the undeniable fact that it happened.) Originally, the song’s litany of state-sponsored crimes was a gloss on America’s invasion of Iraq, ironically noting:

Even though a country can invade another country
And flatten it and ruin it and create havoc and civil war in that other country
If the experts say it’s not a problem and everyone agrees they’re experts
And good at seeing problems then invading those countries
Is simply not a problem.

But on Tuesday, she slipped in a new travesty: “and bomb hospitals.” (At another point, she invited the audience to scream — cathartically, Yoko Ono-style — against “genocides happing everywhere” and the holding of “hostages in Gaza.”)

In a concert that otherwise offered breezy, rocking, swinging fun, such invocations of unsettling current events rode a fine line. But to my eyes and ears, Anderson pulled off that tricky task. In this moment, all sophisticated, adult-coded entertainment is obligated to compete with our awareness of sobering topics, the ones that Anderson has focused on in recent years, like increasingly dangerous waves of water and lethal tides of government-sponsored dehumanization.

There was a great deal else in the show: her electronically modified solo violin playing; a performance of her Massenet-inspired pop hit, “O Superman”; aperçus from her friend Sharon Olds, the pathbreaking confessional poet; video art of Anderson’s design that embraced concepts of artificial intelligence. But it was her willingness to keep tragic contemporary material in view — even when enjoying the breadth of a half-century’s catalog — that amounted to its own form of spiritual advice or moral instruction.

When Anderson appeared for an encore, she led the audience in tai chi movements. This risked objections of blasé appropriation, but her creative practice has always made space for genuine gestures of cultural synthesis. And on Tuesday, it was good to see these aspects of her art operating in counterpoint once again.

Relatives of a British mother and daughter who were murdered by Hamas have released the harrowing last messages sent by the pair as terrorists rampaged through their Israeli home.

Lianne Shirabi sent a panicked text to her sister-in-law saying she could hear members of the terrorist group ‘shooting and shouting “Die Israel”‘ before begging her to call for help.

It has now been confirmed that Bristol-born Lianne and her youngest daughter Yahel, 13, were horrifically killed during a massacre by Hamas as they attacked Be’eri Kibbutz on October 7.

Yahel’s older sister, Noiya Sharabi, 16, and their Israeli father Eli Sharabi remain missing, while her uncle Yossi, 53, was kidnapped and taken to the Gaza strip.

On Tuesday their heartbroken family shared disturbing footage of their blood-spattered home, with stained possessions seen strewn across the home while Lianne’s blood covers the walls and floors.

It is understood that Lianne had sent panicked text messages to relatives that she had heard gunshots outside the house before the horrific massacre.

Yahel Sharabi, 13, disappeared after the terrorists attacked Be’eri Kibbutz

Yahel’s heartbroken family this afternoon paid tribute to the ‘beautiful’ teenager

The grief-stricken family said in a statement: ‘Beautiful Yahel. A bundle of unbridled energy and joy, with a cheekiness that you could not help but smile at and a brain which was sharp as a tack. Full of adventure and mischief, we will forever miss her, but are grateful for the light she brought into our lives in the too short time she was with us.’

The family are now urging Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to visit the war-torn country to call on Hamas to release all the hostages.

Lianne called her family in panic when terrorists began attacking their kibbutz, her sister-in-law Nira Sharabi revealed today. Recalling the horrifying events, Nira told MailOnline: ‘The last contact I had with Lianne and the girls was at about 11am on Saturday morning.

‘She sent me a message saying; ”Nira, I can hear them. They are here at our house. They are shooting and shouting ”’Die Israel”. Please call for help”.

‘I told her; ”Be Strong! I am calling for help!” But ten minutes later I lost contact with her and the girls.

‘Later we learned that Lianne and Yahel had been murdered. But we don’t know what has happened to Noiya and her dad Eli. All we know is that the terrorists broke into their safe room.

‘Eli had barricaded the door and was holding the handle but the terrorists managed to get it open. When the soldiers went in there was a pool of blood outside the door of the safe room.

‘The terrorists did not burned down the house but they smashed everything up. Everything inside the house was broken. They even shot the dog, Moka. She was found dead under the table in the living room. She had bled to death.’

Hamas also broke into Nira’s house and took her husband Yosi hostage. He is still missing.

She told MailOnline: ‘The terrorists also came to my house. They broke into our safe room and shot our dog Shoko dead. They shouted at us and we begged for our lives. They took us down stairs at gun point and into the garden. They demanded we give them the keys to our car.

‘They had come from Gaza in a small black car. They made my husband Yosi and my daughter’s boyfriend Ofir and another boy Ami get into the car and took him away. They let us go and we went inside another house and found a place to hide. We waited there for eight hours with nothing to eat or drink and no way to power our phones before we were rescued.’

The girl’s uncle Raz Matalon told how mother Lianne had warned him that they were under threat.

Mr Matalon told MailOnline: ‘Early on Saturday morning when Hamas fired all the missiles at Israel we called Eli and Lianne and other members of the family, like we always do. Lianne told us this was not like a usual missile attack. It was different. She said she had heard shooting and hand grenades exploding and that the noise of gunfire was getting closer. Then she said: ”We have to be quiet because they are near.”

‘After a few minutes my wife and I left our shelter and turned on the TV.’

He added: ‘We saw on the news that terrorists had infiltrated Kibbutz Be’eri. It was a terrible shock. Lianne sent a few more messages and after that we did not heard from them any more. We were very worried about them. Later we learned that Lianne and Yehal were murdered and that Eli and Noiya had been taken hostage. This has been very upsetting for us. But it is moving to see how people from around the world are supporting us.’

Recalling the horrifying events of Saturday morning the girl’s aunt Nira Sharabi told MailOnline: ‘The last contact I had with Lianne and the girls was at about 11am on Saturday morning.

‘She sent me a message saying: ”Nira, I can hear them. They are here at our house. They are shooting and shouting ‘Die Israel’. Please call for help.”

‘I told her: ”Be Strong! I am calling for help!”

As the war between Israel and Hamas enters its second week, dozens of Israelis remain missing, including some who are also British citizens.

Amongst those unaccounted for is 21-year-old Mia Schem, an Israeli-French citizen who was abducted on October 7 by the Palestinian militants, along with other young Israelis from the deadly Nova Festival near the Israeli border.

Today Mia’s distressed mother, Karen Schem, appealed for her child to be returned home, ‘begging the world to bring [her] baby back’ adding that she ‘only went to a party, to a festival to have some fun’ but ‘now she’s in Gaza’.

Meanwhile, dozens are thought to have been killed in Gaza this afternoon after Israel bombed the southern region after telling Palestinians to evacuate just days ago.

Back in Britain, Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley sparked a huge backlash after asking British-Palestinian MP Layla Moran, whose family are trapped in Gaza, whether she knew about the Hamas terrorist attack before it happened.

Yahel and her sister hadn’t been heard from since black-clad gunmen, wielding assault rifles and hand grenades, went door to door at their small kibbutz looking for Israeli families to slaughter or kidnap in their savage attack on October 7.

The family were sheltering in the safe room at their home in the Kerem – ‘grape vine’ – neighbourhood of the kibbutz when the terrorists broke in, relatives told MailOnline today.

The girl’s relatives who live in the UK said the family visited at least once a year and spoke of the ‘joy on [the girl’s] faces when they ripped open gifts’.

Yahel’s death comes as the family was still reeling from her mother’s murder. Speaking of Lianne, who first moved to Israel as a kibbutz volunteer when she was 19, the family added: ‘She lived a beautiful life and will be sorely missed by the heartbroken family and friends she leaves behind.’

Last night Yahel and Noiya’s heartbroken uncles told MailOnline that they weren’t eating or sleeping since they reported the girls missing and were determined to do everything they could to bring them back to safety.

The girls’ uncles, Raz Matalon and Sharon Sharabi, said they had received a series of panicked messages from Lianne on October 7 who told them she heard gunshots outside their home.

They told MailOnline: ‘She wrote that she heard gunshots outside her home. That people were screaming and calling in Arabic. And people running all over.

‘So they stayed in the safe room until they heard the terrorists had entered the house and tried to open the door.’

It was at this moment all communication from Lianne and her family ceased, leaving her family waiting in vain for any news of their loved ones.

The uncles said it wasn’t until three days later that Israeli soldiers were able to enter Eli and Lianne’s home, where they saw bullets embedded in the walls of the bomb shelter and in the children’s room.

‘There were too big blood stains on the floor,’ Matalon and Sharabi said. ‘They saw the dog lying there dead.’

The family fear Noiya and her father Eli have been taken into Gaza as hostages where the Hamas terrorists are using people they have captured as ‘human shields’ to fend off Israeli forces.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed yesterday that six Britons were killed in the attacks last week, while another ten are missing.

Last week, chilling video emerged of the moment Hamas terrorists ran towards homes in the Be’eri kibbutz and unleashed a hail of bullets on the terrified families living there.

What had been a quiet morning, where many of the 1,000 families – including Yahel, Noiya and their parents – would have been sleeping or enjoying breakfast, turned into one of nightmares.

The gunmen can be heard shouting orders at each other in the video as they run from house to house, the sickening sound of gunshots filling the morning air.

Four gunmen can be seen approaching one family home before shooting into the windows. One of the terrorists can be seen kicking down the door as a round of five gunshots can be heard in the background in quick succession.

The video cuts out before the terrorists manage to break down the door, but it was at this kibbutz they ruthlessly shot dead screaming families as they begged for their lives. Israeli soldiers would later find the bodies of 108 Israeli civilians lying riddled with bullet holes in their homes.

Israeli Major General Itai Veruv told how the Hamas terrorists had thrown a hand grenade towards 15 girls and teenagers who were desperately trying to hide from them. All were found dead in that single room.

The Hamas gunmen also set fire to several homes here in a sick attempt to force the families out so that they could gun them down as soon as they reached their gardens.

Horrific photos too graphic to publish showed how one woman was lying face down in the bed in a pool of blood with six gaping holes in her mottled, decomposing skin.

Next to her, a man with dark hair awkwardly slipped in a gap between the bed and a wall. His black clothes, which appeared to be pyjamas, were still slick with his blood, which pooled in a dark red mess on the floor below him.

His body could be seen decomposing – his face has blackened with boils all over his arms. Chunks of his flesh were missing from his right arm and hand.

Outside, several cars were left flattened, while the bodies of people in everyday clothing can be seen lying in awkward positions.

One survivor, Haim Jelin, told local media that Hamas fighters ‘walked around Be’eri like they owned the place’.

He added: ‘They shot indiscriminately, abducted whoever they could, burned down people’s homes so they’d have to escape through the window, where the terrorists would wait.’

A woman called Miri Gad Mesika told local media that she and her husband were choking on thick smoke and gas fumes as they tried to hide.

‘We soaked towels with water and covered our faces, while my husband Eli held the shelter door closed as hard as he could as the terrorists tried to break in,’ she said.

‘Moments before we jumped from the second floor, we assessed the situation of the fire and looked out for the terrorists and decided to jump.

‘We fled to our neighbours across the street, and watched our house go up in flames before it was completely burned down. I have no idea how we survived.’

Israeli Major General Itai Veruv, who arrived at Be’eri on Saturday to join the fighting there, said as he walked past a home in the now blackened kibbutz: ‘Children in the same room and someone came and killed them all. Fifteen girls and teenagers, they put (them) in the same room, threw in a hand grenade and it’s over.’

‘This is a massacre. It’s a pogrom.’

Be’eri, a settlement of a little more than 1,000 people, is one of more than 20 towns and villages ambushed early Saturday by Hamas terrorists.

Before the attack, Be’eri — started by Zionist settlers two years before the country itself was founded — was known for its industriousness, including a large printing plant that turns out Israeli driver’s licenses.

Now it has become a horrific symbol of the war with Hamas, which authorities say has so far left about 1,300 dead in Israel and about 2,778 people in Gaza.

Mr Sunak said the people killed and missing in the Hamas attack on Israel came from more than 30 countries, as well as Israel. He called the attack ‘an existential strike at the very idea of Israel as a safe homeland for the Jewish people.’

He said Britain supports ‘absolutely Israel’s right to defend itself, to go after Hamas, take back the hostages, deter further incursions and strengthen its security for the long term – in line with international humanitarian law.’

He added the UK has earmarked £10million to alleviate the ‘acute humanitarian crisis’ in Gaza, and urged Israel and Egypt to open a border crossing to let in aid.

Meanwhile, further video of the attack on the Be’eri kibbutz where Yahel lived with her family shows the moment the murderous gunmen shot dead an Israeli family’s dog before storming their home, raiding their fridge and setting their home alight.

The clip, obtained from the GoPro camera attached to the helmet of one Hamas fighter, showed how the dog came bounding out of the house towards the attackers and was immediately mowed down with several bullets.

Hamas terrorists promptly invaded one house and rifled through the family’s belongings, drinking orange juice from their fridge and gorging themselves on its contents.

Then one militant drew a lighter from his pocket and took it to the wall, sparking house plants and hanging ornaments that quickly set ablaze before the heavily armed men made their exit.

Another harrowing scene from the same kibbutz showed how a second group of Hamas militants gained access to the gated compound by slaughtering civilians at near point blank range as they sat in a car.

The footage of the brutal attack was captured by cameras mounted at various points overlooking the entrance to the kibbutz, protected by a yellow metal gate.

CCTV camera footage, timestamped 5.55am on Saturday, shows two Hamas militants armed with AK-47s and dressed in camouflaged military clothing, body armour and combat boots approaching the gate that blocks a two-lane road.

At first, the two fighters are seen trying to find a way through the gate, with one testing to see whether he could fit through the small gap underneath.

He soon changes his mind, and instead breaks into a small guardhouse that sits to one side of the kibbutz entrance, using his rifle to smash his way inside.

Seconds after he climbs through a window, the other combatant spots the approaching car. He hides behind a tree, while the first soldier hides inside the guardhouse, setting an ambush for the approaching vehicle.

At 5.57am, barely two minutes after the two militants were first seen inspecting the entryway to the kibbutz, the driver and passenger are seen pulling up to the gate.

Both are seemingly unaware that the two armed men are lying in wait, and the electronically-operated gate starts to open.

As the driver briefly leans out the window, seemingly to address whoever is inside the guard-house, the armed militant is seen running out from behind the tree.

Once he is feet away from the car, he mercilessly opens fire from point blank range through the passenger side window, blasting the two Israelis with several rounds.

From the other side, the Hamas militant in the guard house also opens fire, hitting the driver several times, who is seen being buffeted as he it hit by the bullets.

As the militants run through the now open gate, the footage shows the car continuing to gently roll forward into the kibbutz which has now been breached.

The victims inside the car remain motionless, covered in blood. Both are presumed to have been killed in the attack, likely among the first victims on Saturday which saw more than 1,000 Hamas gunmen stream across the border from Gaza and into Israel, where they indiscriminately shot civilians while taking others hostage.

The Times of Israel reported Hamas had control of the Be’eri kibbutz for 17 hours.

General Veruv, who had retired from the military until he was recalled Saturday to lead forces fighting to regain control of towns that were attacked, said Hamas fighters had taken up entrenched positions in the ruins of Be’eri, hiding in small groups before surprising Israeli soldiers as they went from house to house.

‘Every time that we thought we cleaned the area and everything was silent, suddenly another 12 or another 20 got out,’ he said.

Lindsie Chrisley is no longer willing to publicly hash out her issues with sister Savannah Chrisley.

“I wanted to handle this situation privately or would be willing to handle the situation privately if she wanted to handle it privately,” Lindsie, 34, said during the Wednesday, October 18, episode of her “Southern Tea” podcast. “I would be in agreement to do that because I never spoke first. In fact, going back to the issue of where this all started, I kind of took the blame for certain things that I shouldn’t have taken the blame from publicly. I took that on on this podcast myself just for it to go away and for there to be peace.”

Lindsie shared that while she is still “willing to have a conversation privately” with Savannah, 26, she will not continue to “engage in unhealthy behavior that has been displayed publicly for any purposes, whether that be entertainment, attention, whatever the reasons may be.” She noted that despite their feud, she wishes her sister “well” in her “time of grief that she’s been publicly navigating” and only hopes for “great things of life” to come her way.

Issues between the two siblings have been growing since parents Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced to prison in November 2022. Things reached a fever pitch earlier this month when Savannah revealed she and Lindsie “don’t speak to each other anymore” during an episode of the “Viall Files” podcast, claiming her relationships with Lindsie and older brother Kyle Chrisley have always been strained. “She and my oldest brother from my dad’s first marriage, my mom always treated them as if they were hers. They didn’t necessarily treat her the same,” she alleged, referring to mom Julie, 50.

Growing pains. Following Chrisley Knows Best‘s debut on USA, the famous family has found themselves at odds over the years — with Lindsie Chrisley at the center of many divides. When viewers met the big brood in 2014, Todd Chrisley opened up about his issues with his eldest daughter after she eloped with her then-husband […]

Savannah’s father, Todd, 54, shares Lindsie and Kyle, 32, with his ex-wife, Teresa Terry. He and Julie, 50, wed in 1996 and share three kids — Chase, Savannah and Grayson. Todd and Julie were found guilty of several tax evasion, bank and wire fraud and conspiracy charges in June 2022 and were sentenced to 12 and seven. Years in prison, respectively, that November. They reported to prison in January and both have since had their sentences reduced.

Savannah, meanwhile, has since taken over custody of Grayson, 17, and Kyle’s daughter Chloe, 10. (Todd and Julie were previously granted custody of Chloe in 2016.)

Lindsie later slammed Savannah’s words on an episode of Kailyn Lowry’s “Coffee Convos” podcast, alleging that Savannah displayed “a complete lack of empathy” and a “lack of awareness.”

A close-knit group. The Chrisley family is standing by Todd and Julie Chrisley as the pair prepare to head to prison after receiving their sentences in their fraud case. On November 21, the Chrisley Knows Best stars were sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison with Todd, 53, serving 12 years and Julie, 49, […]

“[Julie] could have hung the moon, but she still wasn’t my mother and I still had exposure to my mother and I still had all of those traumas before they were ever even born or brought into the picture,” Lindsie said on the September 21 episode. “And so, it’s easy to sit and say things without having true life experience and witnessing say of these things.”

Another point of contention between the sisters is Todd and Julie’s trial. On “Viall Files,” Savannah alleged that Lindsie was “very heavily involved in my parents’ court case with working with the government” and believes she has stabbed their family in the back. Back in 2019, Lindsie told the FBI that she was “truly afraid” of her father, according to an email obtained by the Daily Mail at the time. During the May 2022 trial, however, Lindsie testified in favor of Todd and took back her previous claims that he threatened to blackmail her with her alleged sex tape with ex Robby Hayes.

Let the cameras roll. Chrisley Knows Best is certainly not without drama, but its stars have been at the center of more controversies than a single reality show can handle. Fans met Todd Chrisley, Julie Chrisley and their kids — Chase, Savannah and Grayson — when the series premiered on USA Network in March 2014. […]

“If [Savannah] feels the need to blame me to move forward with her life and responsibilities, that’s OK,” Lindsie said in response to her sister’s allegations during the “Coffee Convos” podcast. “However, I think that it is also showing a lack of empathy for others when you act like you are the sole person that lost two parents. While I was not a part of my parents’ life in the same capacity, they’re still a loss. You can’t say, ‘Oh, well my loss is greater than your loss,’ or, ‘Your loss is greater than my loss.’ That doesn’t really apply here.”

Despite the length of the SAG-AFTRA strike, a new poll from the Los Angeles Times shows that support for the actors’ strike remains by the American public remains much higher than for Hollywood studios, networks, and streaming platforms.

According to the poll, which was tabulated before Oct. 11, when the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers abruptly quit negotiations with SAG-AFTRA, a 34% plurality of polling respondents side with the actors. That’s a slight decline from the 38% who said they supported the strike in July, but still easily the largest single group of people polled.

29% of respondents expressed understanding for both sides in the conflict. Only 7% said they supported the studios over SAG-AFTRA. a number that remains unchanged from the July poll.

An additional 30% had no position on the strike.

Talks broke down last week when the studios quit, citing objections to a proposal from the guild that studios agree to pay $1 per subscriber, per year for all streaming services. This was a step down from the earlier demand of a 1% fee taken from streaming revenue.

At issue are residual payments to actors — SAG-AFTRA has asked for $500 million. TO date, the studios as a group have only been willing to offer $20 million, a figure identical to the base salary of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

The question of streaming residuals is an important one. The poll also indicated that 69% of Americans, or approximately two-thirds of the country, subscribe to at least one streaming service, while 28% reported that they don’t subscribe to any. Of those who do not subscribe to a streaming service, high costs or lack of interest were most frequently cited as the reason why.

Also of note: the majority of those polled (51%) said they hadn’t seen a movie in theaters in the last year, with respondents between the ages of 18 to 34 being the most likely to go.

On Tuesday, several notable actors met with the leaders of SAG-AFTRA to discuss the most recent failed negotiations with studios and offer “suggestions” and “Feedback.” Of the meeting, which reportedly included the participation of George Clooney, Emma Stone, Tyler Perry, and Ben Affleck, the guild told TheWrap, “We meet with members of all profiles every day and we won’t be commenting on those private conversations.”

When it comes to a newer medium such as podcasting, it may be difficult to understand exactly how creators can leverage the format for brand visibility. In conversation at the Variety Studio, presented by Canva at Advertising Week, Conal Byrne, Chief Executive Officer at iHeartMedia, and Jay Shetty, iHeartMedia podcast show host of “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” discussed the strengths of podcasting and how creators can produce personalized content with widespread appeal.

For Shetty, podcasting through an audio company like iHeartMedia, is vastly different from filming a short video to post on TikTok or another brevity-focused platform. Longer-form narrative storytelling provides more freedom for the creator. It’s also comparatively more “intimate” given the extended amount of time listeners spend with the show host.

“What I found so fascinating about podcasting as a medium is I feel like people who listen to me every day or every week, I feel like that person actually understands me in a deeper way,” said Shetty. “They understand my perspective. They know me to a certain degree in a way you couldn’t get through a 15-second clip or a 60-second clip. For me, that’s been really powerful.”

According to Byrne, the podcast industry is progressing quickly and benefits from its diversity of experiences as such a novel industry.

“No one started out their career making podcasts, in this medium. Everybody is coming from some other job they had, whether they were in film or banking,” Byrne said. “It makes creative brainstorms really interesting. You have all these different perspectives piling onto what is still a relatively new format.”

As for increasing the media value of one’s podcast, Shetty expressed the importance of long-term reach and regularly creating content to establish one’s brand, rather than just starting big and fizzling out.

“Consistency is what created intimacy and brand in anything,” Shetty stated. “Sometimes you want to start with this incredible moment and momentum, and I actually think consistency is far more of the magic to podcasting, [which is about] are you showing up for your community every single day or every single week?”

Sullivan’s Crossing fans didn’t see that plot twist coming — and neither did series star Scott Patterson.

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Patterson, 65, praised Tom Jackson‘s performance after his character, Frank, was shot in the Wednesday, October 18, episode.

“It’s easy for me to be emotional around Tom because I feel the same way about Tom [is the way] that [my character] Sully feels about Frank. They have a very close [and] deep friendship. They’re dependent on each other on a daily basis,” he explained to Us. “[Tom] and [his onscreen wife] Edna [Andrea Menard] are two powerhouse actors, personalities and they have a powerhouse presence.”

Patterson developed a bond with Jackson, 74, that gave him an unexpected freedom while collaborating on their scenes. “I feel very safe with everyone, but especially Tom to do very deep work,” he continued. “Because the remarkable thing about Tom in his portrayal is there’s a lot of him in that. You could sense the depth of this person and the size of his heart.”

Filming the CW series created many friendships on set. For Patterson, it also allowed him to spend time with a fellow actor who he really respects.

“Tom Jackson is a global icon — especially in Canada — for a reason. He’s a big-hearted individual. He’s incredibly smart. He’s incredibly giving [and] he’s donating his time to helping his people. It’s quite moving to be in his presence actually just to be in his presence,” the Gilmore Girls alum gushed to Us. “And he’s such a down-to-earth and easy going guy. It’s very special to do work with him because you feel like you’re kind of doing scenes with a mountain. It’s something very natural and very beautiful and very powerful.”

Patterson continued: “He is one of the most loving human beings I have ever been around. And to get a hug from that man is to know that you are loved. That’s why he does it — because he needs to express it. I’m getting a little choked up [just] talking about him. He’s the most generous actor and he’s the most generous man.”

Season 1 originally made fans get comfortable as they got to know the sights and people in Sullivan’s Crossing. The plot, however, has since taken a turn for the unexpected with Frank’s injury.

After performing a smudging ceremony in honor of his Indigenous ancestors, Frank left to help someone with a problem and on his way back he stopped at the sight of another car in the middle of the woods. Frank wanted to warn the tourists that they couldn’t hunt in the area and subsequently got shot by accident and left for dead on purpose.

“We did a scene [in an upcoming episode] where obviously Sully comes to see Frank. I cried so much and so deeply that they couldn’t use the footage,” Patterson recalled. “There was too much mucus coming out of my nose and I couldn’t control it. But that’s the effect he has.”

Patterson went on to say that he feels the same way about all of his costars.

“These are just really lovely people up here and it’s easy to connect with them and it’s easy to do work with them. And it seems like that is being translated onto the screen. So [viewers] are getting something very real and very natural,” he continued. “I think people will be surprised at the depth of the emotions that are happening up here.”

The upcoming episodes of the “deeply emotional” show will continue to pull at people’s heartstrings.

“Bring a box of tissues because you’re going to feel stuff. You’re going to feel stuff very deeply because they’re dealing with a lot of universal themes,” Patterson concluded. “There’s a lot of really positive stuff here [that is] mixed in with the dark. But there’s real hope. Because if you’re going to dwell in those dark areas, there better be hope. And that’s what makes it work. That’s why people love it so much because it doesn’t matter what happens in the episode, you’re always going to have a hopeful feeling that [in the] next one, they’re going to resolve it.”

Sunny Deol with wife Pooja at son Karan Deol’s wedding

Sunny had reportedly tied the knot with Pooja around the release of his debut film Betab. As per reports, he even kept his marriage secret.

Sunny Deol, who has been basking under the success of Gadar 2, has turned a year older today. The actor is celebrating his birthday and wishes have been coming in for him from all corners. On this day, an old interview surfaced in which he spoke about why his wife Pooja Deol stayed away from the glitz and glamour of the film industry. In a candid revelation, Sunny Deol affirmed that Pooja’s low-profile presence is entirely her choice.

In an old interview with Deccan Chronicle in 2013, the actor had shared that Pooja wasn’t ‘forced to stay away from the limelight’. He was also asked if Pooja, his mother Prakash Deol and Bobby Deol’s wife Tanya Deol were asked to not be in the limelight. On this he replied, “That’s not true. Neither my mother nor my wife was forced to stay away from the limelight. My wife is her own person. She has always had the liberty to make her own decisions. To not make public appearances is her own call. Like I said, neither my father nor I have forced the women in our family to follow our rules.”

Sunny had reportedly tied the knot with Pooja around the release of his debut film Betab (1983), in which he was paired opposite Amrita Singh. However, the actor chose to keep his marriage a secret for “many years,” according to several media reports on the internet. Interestingly, Sunny was romantically linked with Amrita during the filming of Betab. Later that year, a magazine reportedly leaked pictures of Sunny’s secret wedding with Pooja Deol, but the actor had denied being married to anyone at the time. Sunny and Pooja tied the knot in 1984. The couple has two sons, Karan Deol and Rajveer Deol.

On the work front, Sunny will be next seen in director Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore, 1947. Aamir will only be producing the film with his production house Aamir Khan Productions.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had some major disagreements with now-fired executive Victoria Alonso prior to her firing in March 2023.

Earlier this year, Marvel Studios parted ways with one of its founding executives, Victoria Alonso, after 17 years at the company. Alonso last served as president of physical and post-production, visual effects, and animation production, having been promoted from executive vice president of production in September 2021.

Alonso was terminated from her role at Marvel Studios in March 2023, while long-time colleague Kevin Feige did not intervene in, nor was part of, the decision regarding her firing.

Kevin Feige Disagreed with Ex-Marvel Studios Boss

Hailing from author Joanna Robinson, the new book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios tells the full story of the superhero studio, and notably offers new details about Victoria Alonso’s conflicts with Kevin Feige.

The book noted how, almost a year before her departure, Alonso had “broken one of Feige’s cardinal rules” after speaking publically against former Disney CEO Bob Chapek:

“Alonso had broken one of Feige’s cardinal rules: don’t speak out publicly against the company.”

Alonso, who is lesbian herself, spoke out against Chapek in April 2022 after he failed to stand against Florida’s anti-LGBTQIA+ “Don’t Say Gay” bill which prevents the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.

According to Variety, the now-fired executive’s public comments against the Disney boss caused her to no longer be allowed to participate in MCU press.

The Marvel Studios book added how Feige told Alsonso she had “outgrown her role” and pushed her to “‘keep her head down’ and ‘do the work:'”

“A source close to the matter said that later that year Feige suggested to Alonso that she had outgrown her role at Marvel. He reportedly cautioned her to “keep her head down” and “do the work.”

Alonso also “refused to act” on instruction to remove LGBTQIA+ symbols from Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania to allow for release in certain foreign markets, something which was later done anyway:

“In early 2023, Alonso refused to act on Marvel Studios’ request to remove LGBTQ pride symbols from Quantumania for foreign markets. The atmosphere at the studio was tense: the department of ‘yes’ had said ‘no.’ D’Esposito outsourced the VFX work anyway, an act Alonso regarded as a betrayal.”

The ex-Marvel Studios boss’ termination came in March 2023 due to her producer work on the Oscar-nominated Argentina, 1985 at rival studio Amazon, which marked a breach in her Disney contract.

After Alonso retained a lawyer for potential legacy action after her firing, a Disney spokesperson noted how she had committed an “indisputable breach of contract and a direct violation of company policy.”

Alonso has since been accused of being “singularly responsible for Marvel’s toxic work environment” toward VFX artists. The same report noted how she was “bigfooting all major creative decisions” at Marvel Studios, with even directors supposedly having their creative control stolen.

As Victoria Alonso had seemingly broken one of Kevin Feige’s “cardinal rules,” it now becomes more clear why he reportedly did not intervene in the firing of his 17-year MCU colleague, despite also not being involved in the decision.

Will Victoria Alonso’s Exit Improve Marvel Studios?

Between the toxic work culture she was allegedly involved in creating, her public remarks against at-the-time Disney CEO Bob Chapek, and her breach of contract in developing Argentina, 1985, it becomes clear why it was time for Alonso to depart Marvel Studios after so many years.

A new executive has still yet to be appointed to replace Alonso, although Variety noted shortly after her exit how her expansive role covering post-production, visual effects, and animation may require more than one person to fulfill.

If Alonso was involved in creating a toxic culture that took creative control from directors and led to tough working conditions for VFX artists, one can only hope the studio is taking strides for improvements in the wake of her exit.

Last month, via Variety, Marvel Studios’ VFX artists unanimously voted to unionize and set about plans to make a deal with the studio as they are “demanding fair pay for the hours they work, healthcare, a safe and sustainable working environment, and respect for the work they do.”

Marvel Studios’ next movie release will come with The Marvels, which hits theaters next month on Friday, November 10. For now, new episodes of Loki Season 2 are hitting Disney+ weekly on Thursday nights.

Robinson’s MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios can now be purchased on Amazon.

Review: My Adventures With Superman 1×06 – “My Adventures With Mad Science”

[Editor’s note: This review may contain spoilers!]

Summary

My Adventures With Superman 1×06: When Jimmy gets kidnapped, it’s up to Lois and Clark to save him – but rescuing Jimmy will lead them into danger as they deal with mad scientists, military secrets, and relationship woes.

Positives

This episode picks up where the previous one leaves off — with Lois angry at Clark for not revealing his secret identity as Superman. However, while searching for Jimmy in the forest, where he’s seemingly disappeared, Clark ends up revealing the truth to Lois. Clark’s feelings are put to the test as he finds himself attacked by unknown weaponry, and, for some unknown reason, he’s depowered.

Jimmy’s situation seems even worse when his kidnappers reveal themselves. Monsieur Mallah and the Brain make their appearance, and I really enjoyed it. Expecting to die, Jimmy reveals how he feels betrayed by Lois and Clark, and he ends up befriending Mallah and Brain!

Negatives

I don’t have any complaints about this episode. The action was great and the story itself was pretty darn good. Usually, a powerful character like Superman is depowered for no reason in an episode or two to humanize him in a way. Here, it’s different seeing that this particular Superman is still learning his powers and doesn’t know how invulnerable he is yet. It makes his fights, particularly in this episode, that much more interesting as a character.

Verdict

My Adventures With Superman 1×06 was a good episode that was also pretty funny. If anything, it shows the bond between Lois, Clark, and Jimmy, and the lengths these friends will go to help each other. Often times, in the comics and shows I’ve seen, Jimmy is seen as a side character or an afterthought that you don’t see until the last few pages. I’m glad that, in this show, Jimmy is finally getting some time to shine, which the character rightly deserves.

Score: 5/5

74 Review: My Adventures With Superman 1×06 –

Sony Interactive Entertainment has patented a console controller that houses and charges wireless earbuds.

According to a patent filed by the company last week, which was spotted by GameRant, the company is exploring giving a new controller the ability to store, charge and pair in-ear headphones.

The patent includes images showing that the earbuds could potentially be stored in several different positions on the controller, including under the touchpad, suggesting that the configuration wasn’t finalised when it was published.

The product would eliminate the need for the user to separately pair their controller and headphones to a console, as well as the need to manage separate battery life statuses to ensure to that the controller, the earbuds and the case for the earbuds are charged.

“The controller is designed to act both as an input device and as a headphone storage, charging and connection case,” Sony says. “Using the controller as a headphone case and an earbud charger eliminates the need to manage two separate devices.

“This simplifies the overall user experience as the user has one less device to manage communication with the gaming device.”

It adds: “As portability becomes more mainstream and important, the audio experience also becomes more important.”

Sony recently announced plans to launch a dedicated PS5 remote play device, PlayStation Portal, and its first wireless earbuds, called Pulse Explore. Both products will cost $199.99 / €219.99 / £199.99.

PlayStation Portal will launch in select markets on November 15, 2023, while Pulse Explore’s release date is still to be confirmed.
