Love your mother! Tallulah Willis, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Langley Fox Hemingway, and more It-girls celebrated Mother Earth with MOTHER, Shopbop, and The Climate Pledge at Flamingo Estate in Los Angeles, California, on Oct. 14.

The actresses joined MOTHER co-founders Lela Becker and Tim Kaeding and The Climate Pledge Global Leader Sally Fouts at the private home, where lush gardens, colorful art, and unique floral arrangements set the scene as partygoers sipped signature cocktails and grazed on fresh veggies, breads, and dips.

The festivities continued outdoors, where guests adorned an olive tree with handwritten wishes, selected personalized crystals to take home, and indulged in an assortment of fruit-topped desserts displayed across a long table.

Meanwhile, poolside, musician Nick Waterhouse and his band treated the crowd to a live performance before Becker took the stage to mark the denim brand’s signing of The Climate Pledge and its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

“We are honored to be part of The Climate Pledge and the community, which is joined together in the spirit of taking care of the ultimate MOTHER, Mother Earth,” Becker said.

“Responsibility has always mattered to us, and with 90% of our manufacturing taking place in L.A., using fine imported materials, supporting local craftspeople, and diligently working with partners, we have been able to make meaningful changes.”

As the evening wound down, Rittenhouse had her sights set on the stars, joining the line to peer through the venue’s telescope, perched at the top of its famously steep staircase.

And in one final gift from Mother Nature, attendees headed home with locally sourced fruit boxes from Flamingo Estate for a sweet ending to the night.

Twisters has had a lasting impact on Daisy Edgar-Jones, but not necessarily in the way that she wanted.

During a recent episode of Jake Shane‘s Therapuss podcast, the actress revealed that she might be “slightly deaf” in one ear after shooting the 2024 action-adventure thriller, directed by Lee Isaac Chung.

“I think I still am slightly deaf in my left ear because there was so much debris and wind that was entering from a sharp left,” she said. “It was a windy shoot. It was quite ironic because we were shooting in Oklahoma and often would have to shut down filming because of an actual wind storm, to then recreate a wind storm once it’s passed. It was a wild experience.”

Twisters, which served as a standalone sequel, came nearly two decades after 1996’s Twister. The film followed Kate Carter (Edgar-Jones), a retired tornado-chaser and meteorologist who is persuaded to return to Oklahoma to work with a new team and new technologies. There, she meets Tyler Owens (played by Glen Powell), a content creator who posts his storm-chasing adventures.

The Sense and Sensibility star definitely wasn’t afraid to get in on the action, previously telling The Hollywood Reporter that she got “a bit addicted” to doing stunts after filming Twisters.

“It was so stunt heavy and I’d never done really proper stunts, so I was so curious to see how they were going to achieve a lot of the action sequences, but I’m a bit addicted now, I’ve got the bug,” Edgar-Jones said in 2024. “It was so much fun. I mean we had a phenomenal stunt department who really just helped to immerse us in it, also keep us safe. Most of the stunts were sort of being battered by wind, rain and debris so it was definitely an interesting filming experience.”

Halle Berry took fierce aim at her ex-husband Olivier Martinez’s alleged parenting of their son Maceo amid their bitter custody war, according to a new court filing.

Earlier this month, Martinez, 60, obtained a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Berry, 60, after accusing her of ‘physically abusing’ the 13-year-old ‘by jumping on him and choking him’ in a September 26 incident. Berry has denied all of the allegations.

In a legal filing made in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday and reviewed by The Daily Mail, Berry claimed that her ex has repeatedly inserted himself into ongoing issues regarding Maceo’s schooling and therapy, obstructing progress in all areas.

She told the court that Martinez has inappropriately gotten Maceo involved in the ongoing custody battle and undermined her efforts with the teen, as per the filing.

Berry said that the court should award her ‘sole legal custody over matters relating to Maceo’s education, healthcare, and mental-health treatment,’ and ‘extend [her] tie-breaking authority indefinitely.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for both parties for further comment on the story.

The aforementioned requests would be ‘so that necessary interventions can be implemented without continued delay, conflict, and harm to the child,’ Berry said in the court filing.

Attorneys for Berry said in the filing that the ongoing ‘case has been and continues to be about Olivier’s efforts to use manipulation, alienation, and litigation to obstruct necessary interventions for Maceo and to circumvent orders.’

Berry’s legal team said in the filing that it was not merely Berry’s ‘characterization of events,’ as Martinez’s ‘custom and practice is confirmed by numerous judicial findings, court orders, and sanctions.’

Berry said in the court filing that Maceo’s ‘behavioral issues at school have significantly escalated’ since the temporary restraining order had been issued earlier this month.

In the filing, Berry pointed to letters submitted to the court by administrators from Maceo’s school indicating that he ‘has become increasingly oppositional, defiant, and disrespectful toward both peers and authority figures.’

Berry added in the legal filing that the school officials have said ‘Maceo has been more disruptive at school, harassed a younger student, used inappropriate language, thrown objects at peers, been disciplined with a week of detention and unilaterally announced that he is’ switching schools.

Berry said in the legal filing that, with Martinez’s encouragement, Maceo has been reinforced to believe he has a say in ‘decisions regarding his education, health, extracurricular activities, and general welfare.’

In addition to asking for sole custody, Berry has requested the court authorize an arrangement in which Maceo would attend therapy sessions for a year, ‘both individual and conjoint,’ with a therapist of her choosing.

Berry in the legal filing requested that both parties ‘be ordered to forthwith communicate exclusively via Our Family Wizard,’ a co-parenting app. She asked the court for conditions in which each party would check the app once a day, and send no more than one message daily in cases of no emergency.

For messages deemed ‘URGENT,’ Berry asked the court that the responding party reply within a five-hour span.

The filing from the Oscar-winner also included declarations from her fiancé Van Hunt, 56, daughter Nahla, 18, and administrators from Maceo’s school.

Berry and Martinez had been married from 2013-2015, finalizing their split in 2023.

Martinez’s lawyer Patrick Baghdaserians told The Daily Mail on Thursday his team was ‘pleased with the court’s ruling’ on Wednesday permitting Maceo to testify, adding, ‘We believe it was necessary.’

On Tuesday, Baghdaserians told The Daily Mail that his ‘client believes that it is in Maceo’s best interest for the Court to have all the information regarding what happened at [Berry’s] home on the night of September 26, 2026.’

Prahaar Movie Review: There’s a tendency to mistake the importance of a real-life story for the quality of its cinematic retelling. With Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story, the weight of the subject and the significance of the man at its centre may invite a certain reverence, making any criticism of the filmmaking seem misplaced and almost blasphemous.

This is a man who has prosecuted cases such as the 2003 Gateway of India blast, the 2010 German Bakery blast in Pune, the 1993 Bombay blasts, Gulshan Kumar’s murder, Shakti Mills gang rape and, of course, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. But the importance of his story doesn’t automatically translate into compelling cinema. The film has intent but heavily suffers due to a bumpy screenplay.

Prahaar is all over the place, struggling to decide what it wants to focus on. Is it the terror attacks and the subsequent trials, Nikam’s family life, his complicated equation with his son or Ajmal Kasab’s background and life in Arthur Road Jail? By attempting to juggle all these threads, the film loses sight of its central narrative.

What emerges is a muddled mishmash of storylines that leaves you wondering what you’re supposed to invest in. That’s not to say the film is devoid of moments that move you to tears, fill you with rage or make you appreciate the sheer brilliance of its actors. But are a handful of powerful moments enough to make a good film? Seems unlikely.

Prahaar opens on the day of the 1993 Bombay blasts verdict. Having won the TADA case, Nikam remains remarkably equanimous even as those around him celebrate. “Kaam adhura reh gaya hai,” he says, refusing to rejoice before the entire terrorist network is exposed. Years later, as he attends his daughter’s wedding, a phone call shatters the celebrations. Mumbai is under attack.

The date is November 26, 2008. A series of coordinated shootings and bombings across the city leaves it reeling. Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist captured alive, becomes the face of the trial that follows, with Nikam entrusted with the responsibility of prosecuting him. Standing on the other side is Kazmi, who agrees to represent Kasab after the Mumbai Bar Association refuses to take up his defence.

What follows is a courtroom battle. Nikam insists on filing a single chargesheet, as it could lead him to Lashkar-e-Taiba and the entire network behind 26/11 and dismantle Kasab’s claim of being a juvenile. A press photographer, a senior nurse working at Cama Hospital and multiple cops appear as witnesses. But the most chilling and emotional testimony is from a ten-year-old survivor.

Prahaar also explores the personal cost of Nikam and Kazmi taking up opposing sides of the trial. While Nikam is dismissed by sections of the public as an ‘attention seeker’, Kazmi is branded a traitor for defending Kasab. In one particularly uncomfortable scene, Kazmi is insulted by another Muslim at a restaurant during Eid, in front of his own family and accused of bringing shame to their community.

Director Avinash Arun and writer Sumit Roy further capture the public outrage surrounding the trial, with people demanding Kasab’s immediate execution and growing impatient with what they perceive as the law’s slow pace in delivering justice. These are telling moments that capture the price of standing by one’s professional duty when public sentiment demands otherwise.

Importantly, Prahaar ensures that the narrative doesn’t devolve into mere bashing and targeting a religion or a country. In one of its most powerful and significant scenes, Nikam strikes up an unexpected conversation with Zulfiqar, a member of an official delegation from Islamabad. It’s food they bond over – bombil fry in Mumbai and haleem and galouti kebab in Islamabad.

Their exchange on politics, religion and the hatred fuelled by extremism makes a poignant, nuanced and humanist point – the fire you set in your neighbour’s home can eventually engulf your own. What follows is an unlikely friendship that transcends the animosity between the two countries. “Terrorists are not born but manufactured,” they say. The film largely holds on to its objectivity.

Despite these highlights, Prahaar struggles to stay afloat over its 2-hour and 21-minute runtime. The narrative is uneven and rarely gripping, often losing momentum at crucial junctures. The decision to explore Nikam’s personal and family life isn’t inherently problematic. The issue is how these portions are inserted between important scenes, disrupting the narrative flow.

Needless to say, they draw attention away from the central conflict. A mere acknowledgement of how his demanding career keeps him from spending time with his equally supportive family would have sufficed. Instead, the makers delve deep into his domestic life and a messy father-son equation marked by ego, leaving the screenplay unnecessarily bloated.

For instance, following a heart-wrenching sequence in which the ten-year-old girl testifies that Kasab shot her pregnant mother at CST, the film abruptly cuts to a sequence featuring Nikam and his wife in a hospital room and then to a flashback chronicling their love story. The tonal shift is jarring, diluting the emotional impact of an otherwise devastating moment.

The weak links are too many to ignore. As for the performances, Rajkummar Rao delivers a decent turn as Nikam. But it also raises a question – does an actor need to replicate every body-language cue and mannerism of the person he’s portraying? While he captures Nikam’s mannerisms well, the performance eventually feels too mechanical, making it difficult to connect with the man behind the persona.

The act also suffers from the way Nikam is written on paper, as a man with barely any visible vulnerabilities. The character feels too one-dimensional, leaving little room for the actor to bring out the complexities that might have made him more compelling. This is certainly not one of Rao’s more memorable performances.

Wamiqa Gabbi, as Nikam’s wife Jyoti, has little to do beyond trying to replicate the real person’s mannerisms. It’s a peripheral role that adds little to the narrative and does little to showcase her abilities as an actor. She almost feels like a narrative device to offer some relief from an otherwise tense film, rather than a character with any real depth or purpose of her own.

It is Jaideep Ahlawat who truly leaves an impact as Zulfiqar, despite limited screen time. As India and Pakistan are caught in a cycle of hostility, he emerges as a voice of reason, advocating dialogue over hatred and reminding us of the human cost of extremism. His moments with Rao are pure gold. Sikandar Kher as Kazmi is equally impressive.

But the absolute show stealer is Lalit Prabhakar, who delivers a remarkable act as Kasab. From the chilling smirk on his face as he kills people to the distress he experiences on learning that his mother has fallen ill, he captures the many shades of a man who is both a perpetrator of horrific violence and a product of indoctrination.

His fear upon seeing the bodies of his fellow terrorists and realising that he has been brainwashed into killing in the name of attaining jannat is particularly striking. It’s a layered, unsettling performance. In a scene inside the cell, he begins hallucinating, offering a glimpse into his deteriorating mental state. Prabhakar sheds all inhibitions in the sequence, delivering a raw, uninhibited performance.

In all honesty, Prahaar is a film that deserved to be told. It has its heart in the right place. It’s great material on paper. It wants to unsettle us. But the problem is that much of it gets lost under the weight of its own aspirations. Ultimately, it’s a film of powerful moments that never quite comes together as a compelling whole.

Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan appear on vintage game shows in the retro music video for the “Expectations” remix, featuring appearances from musician David Byrne and producer Dan Nigro.

The clip, directed by Bardia Zeinali, shows Rodrigo and Roan (in her first-ever feature) appearing on sets clearly inspired by “Family Feud” and “Hollywood Squares.” Byrne appears as Johnny Johnson, host of the “Big Expectations” show, where he asks three Rodrigos in different outfits “a little bit how you got here.”

What follows is a trip to the different sets and a new “Expectations” verse from Roan, who shows up on the set of “Sister Squabble” to contend with Rodrigo in a “Family Feud” face-off. “I took her to a concert front row thought it’d be fun,” she sings. “Her hand moving up my skirt, no piercing on her tongue / She said she’d call me later, that was three weeks ago / Classic L.A. behavior, she could’ve just said no.”

Nigro, who produced “Expectations” along with Roan and Rodrigo’s albums, pops up at the end clutching a giant brick of a phone straight out of the 1990s. His appearance makes sense, as he produced the track and its parent album “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.”

Speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Thursday afternoon, Roan and Rodrigo explained why they teamed for the remix. “This is obviously my first feature,” said Roan. “I’ve never done this before, so it feels perfect to me. I don’t know. I feel like it represents a generation of songwriters that are just really thinking about their lyrics. I felt like with this song, I was like, ‘Wow, it’s so cool that she is putting a pretty difficult concept within the pop song,’ which is my favorite pop songs ever.”

Rodrigo explained that she had asked Byrne to appear in the video but was a “bit sheepish” about making the request. “I always feel shy asking people for favors, but he was so down,” she said. “He showed up the entire day. He had a character that he had built out and he made this Johnny Johnson character. There’s so many outtakes we have of him just improvising and riffing and he was so into it. And I was like, ‘Gosh, David, maybe he should be an actor too one of these days.” He’s very multi-talented.”

Beyond sharing Nigro as a producer, Rodrigo and Roan go back some years, as the latter supported the former on both her “Sour” and “Guts” tours. Roan recently performed at Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival in late August as part of an all-female lineup that featured Doechii, Rachel Chinouriri, Garbage, the Breeders and more.

The latest Marvel series follows Paul Bettany’s “White Vision” after his memories were restored during the events of WandaVision.

“So he has the memories, but he doesn’t have the emotions and the feelings, and I think that’s what the journey is. White Vision’s journey during the show is about his attempt to connect to those memories and who he was… but with lasers!”

The future of DC Universe TV shows gets a major update.

The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate is building out James Gunn’s superhero franchise across the big and small screens, as various iconic heroes and villains come to life. As the fall season is about to take viewers to Gotham City in the R-rated Clayface movie, many are still wondering what is in store for the television side of the franchise.

Peter Safran, who serves as co-CEO alongside Gunn at DC Studios, recently spoke with IGN about what the strategy is for DCU TV going forward, including whether or not Lanterns season 2 is something they are considering. To begin with, he confirmed with a simple “no” that a second season has been greenlit. He elaborated that “we’ll see what happens with Lanterns Season Two. If, I think, the collective group of HBO and DC and Chris Mundy and the team all feel like we’ve got something that is a worthy successor to quite a beloved first season of television, then I wouldn’t be surprised to see more.”

As far as future projects go on the small screen from DC Studios, Safran added that “we’re obviously in production on Gorilla Grodd right now, we have a number of other properties that we’re really excited about that we’re in development on. The episodic world is always going to be a really important part of our overall slate. It’s a great way to tell stories that need more real estate than a feature film can offer you, and it’s a great way to introduce characters that we then bring into the feature world. And I think that Aaron Pierre and John Stewart are perfect examples of that.” He also teased that “audiences will see him next summer” in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie, and how “it’s really important to us in continuing to tell aspects of the story that we’re not telling in the feature film world so there’s more to come.”

The DC Studios co-head was asked what project he thinks will start shooting after The People V. Gorilla Grodd. Safran made it clear that “there are a couple that are vying for that spot, but we haven’t firmly committed to what the next one will be in either film or television. We have a pretty robust slate of animation that’s all going forward right now but, on the live-action side, it’s a little bit TBD.”

One of the big animated TV series that is in the works is the Mister Miracle show, which recently revealed its two leading stars, as Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis have been tapped to voice Scott Free and Big Barda, respectively. Creature Commandos season 2 is also in production, although HBO Max has not announced a release date for it yet.

Back in January 2023, when Gunn and Safran revealed the upcoming DCU movies and TV shows that are part of the slate, a handful of live-action dramas were announced to be in various stages of development. One of the titles included a Wonder Woman prequel series, Paradise Lost, set prior to Diana Prince’s birth.

A Booster Gold live-action series was also announced, but is currently being redeveloped after Davin Jenkins’ pilot was rejected. As they are searching for a new creative team on the Michael Jon Carter-centric show, Jeremy Carver and Christal Henry were hired to develop Viola Davis’ Waller spinoff for Amanda Waller, which has also been progressing more slowly than expected.

Lanterns season 1 is available for streaming on HBO Max.

The future of DC Universe TV shows

Microsoft is reportedly polling Xbox Insider users about making future Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Diablo, PHYSINT and Minecraft games Xbox console exclusives, but the survey’s broadest hypothetical specifically leaves out Call of Duty.

Xbox Survey Tests Exclusivity for Major Franchises

Insider Gaming reports that the survey asks users to consider different exclusivity scenarios and how they would respond. In the most sweeping version, every future title from an Xbox-developed franchise except Call of Duty would be exclusive to Xbox consoles, with PC unaffected as described in the question.

The question asks whether players would buy an Xbox or move to PC in that situation. Its wording sets out the hypothetical directly: “Imagine it was announced that all future title releases from every XBOX-developed gaming franchise except Call of Duty will be console-exclusive to XBOX,” the reported survey question reads.

Minecraft gets a more specific scenario. Existing games would no longer be sold on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, and those versions would receive no new content updates; people who already own the games would keep their content, while nothing would change on PC. That is a description of a survey proposal, not an announced plan.

Call of Duty Is Explicitly Carved Out

The Call of Duty exception is notable because the survey’s most expansive option does not apply the same rule to every Xbox franchise. It signals that Microsoft is testing reactions to a selective approach, but does not confirm what platform policy the company will choose or establish a separate Call of Duty commitment.

Gameplay scene from Call of Duty – Image: Call of Duty® / Steam

The Minecraft wording also distinguishes between ending future availability and removing access from existing owners: “For Minecraft only, existing titles would no longer be available for purchase on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, and would not receive any new content updates. However, there is no impact to any of the existing titles or content you already own. Nothing changes on PC in this announcement.”

A Test, Not a Platform Announcement

The survey lands amid a shift in Xbox’s platform approach. Insider Gaming describes an earlier everything is an Xbox push to reach players across platforms, including Halo: Campaign Evolved on PlayStation 5, followed by a stronger emphasis on exclusives such as Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution. The reported Forza Horizon 6 release on PlayStation 5 offers another point of contrast with that move toward exclusivity.

No release date or exclusivity decision accompanies the survey. Insider Gaming says Xbox is seeking profitability in fiscal year 2027 and will continue tracking the story, leaving the survey’s answers and any resulting policy change unconfirmed.

Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to help complete “The Batman Part II” while director Matt Reeves is on hiatus dealing with a personal matter, Variety has confirmed.

“As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on ‘The Batman Part 2,’” a studio rep said in a statement. “Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”

Soderbergh said in his own statement, “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on ‘The Batman’ was stunning; it was intentional, specific and rigorously coherent. The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”

Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced “The Batman Part II” production pause in early October, stating that Reeves temporarily stepped away from the project to handle a “family matter.”

“Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a rep said in a statement at the time. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

Soderbergh is the Oscar-winning director best known for films “Traffic,” “Erin Brockovich,” “Sex, Lies, and Videotape and “Ocean’s Eleven.” His most recent releases include “The Christophers,” “Black Bag,” “Presence” and “John Lennon: The Last Interview.”

The highly anticipated “Batman” sequel has experienced several delays since it was announced at CinemaCon 2022. The original release date was set for Oct. 2, 2026, before Warner Bros. delayed it to Oct. 1, 2027. In June, the film was pushed again to February 2028. Reeves’ first “Batman” was released in March 2022.

Robert Pattinson returns as the Caped Crusader in “The Batman Part II.” Other cast members include Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright.

Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to help

The whole thing overall was very intense, and he’s a very intense person, so the combination of both…I kind of blacked out, in a way. I think I had a panic attack. When we sat down, it was even more intense for me because I was like, Oh God, what do we talk about? We just talked for 10 days.

He kind of came off a little more intense and wasn’t picking up that I was really nervous. I just kept saying, “Oh, this is so weird. This is so weird.” When I got out of there, I was incredibly overwhelmed, and I was like, I gotta go, I gotta go. I genuinely regret that. He deserves better.

Was there anything about him, specifically, that threw you off in that moment beyond your own internal battle?

It was not about his looks. That’s so black and white. I’m not like that. I think it was the intensity. Through a wall, you obviously don’t get that as much. I knew he was theatrical, but then just putting it all together, it was a lot in that moment. We had just gotten engaged and gone through this incredible connection, but the physical was not matching up to me in that moment. It kind of freaked me out. There’s no other way to explain it.

When he said the guys called him Kennedy, and you say, “More like Mitt Romney.” What did that mean?

He kind of looks like he would be like one of the Romney sons. I thought it was cocky when he said that, and I thought he could maybe be taken down a notch. I was like, Who says that? And then brings it up again? Like, of course, I had heard that. Like, I knew.

Watching [everything] back, I was like, Oh my God, this guy thinks he’s like so attractive, calling himself Jude Law. I kind of want to talk about me a little bit. What do you think about me? He said all these really nice things in his interview. Like, “Oh, she’s everything I could have imagined.” But I wanted to hear that, especially after a proposal that wasn’t that romantic. I was like, Maybe this is the moment that I will get this romantic thing, and it will be about me. And it really wasn’t about me, and that also threw me off. Like, Oh my God, this is not my person.

Jenna Ortega hopes that her new film, the dystopian sci-fi “Klara and the Sun,” can remind people to live in the moment in the age of AI and all-consuming technology.

“I think we gotta put our focus on one another and put down the computers and phones,” the star told Variety on the red carpet at the movie’s world premiere at London Film Festival on Thursday night.

Ortega, wearing a stunning yellow lace dress and hair piece, added: “Remember to be present and to appreciate people while they’re standing right in front of you.”

Based on Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling 2021 novel of the same name, “Klara and the Sun” is set in a future where advances in genetic engineering have divided humans into strict social classes. Ortega plays Klara, an artificial android companion who is purchased for an ailing girl named Josie (Mia Tharia). “Klara and the Sun” is directed by “Thor” helmer Taika Waititi and also stars Amy Adams as Josie’s mother, Aran Murphy (son of Cillian Murphy), Natasha Lyonne, Steve Buscemi and more.

Waititi, Adams, Murphy and Lyonne all walked the London Film Festival red carpet on Thursday night, alongside Waititi’s wife Rita Ora, author Ishiguro and a surprise appearance from Florence Pugh, who stunned in a blue floral gown with statement sleeves. Pugh enthusiastically greeted Ortega and Adams before they all posed for photos together alongside producer Rachel Forman.

Standing alongside Ortega, Adams added that everyone she’s spoken to has gotten “something different” out of the film. “That, to me, is a really successful film that communicates something different to each viewer. So I like hearing what people get out of it,” she said.

Ortega clarified that though Klara is an “artificial friend,” she doesn’t work like the AI that we know today.

“AI I guess pulls all this information from the internet and Klara gets all her information from the real world,” she said. “So that’s a little bit different. She’s kind of like a toddler in a sense. Playing her specifically in this film was really interesting because Taika wanted a more human approach, so he didn’t want to do movement that was too robotic, maybe more sort of clumsy and unknowing.”

Waititi echoed Ortega in saying that the film’s message is to “put the phone down.”

“I would just like people to remember what friendship is, connect with people and just be,” he said. “Just be in the moment.”

Ishiguro acknowledged that, since his novel came out in 2021, the world’s awareness and attitude about AI has changed greatly.

“This film doesn’t address a lot of the anxieties that you and I may have right now about where we’re going with the technology. I mean, I think quite rightly, it’s really come center stage,” he said. “I’m aware that this film is coming out into a very different world to the one that my novel came out in five years ago, and I don’t know how that will change people’s expectations or how people look at things. But I’ll say that this isn’t another film about how an AI machine seems to be nice and then becomes sinister and ends up killing all the nice people in the film. It’s not that sort of story.”

Ishiguro is wading more into film, confirming to Variety that he’s working on a new project with Tim Burton, for which he penned an original script. Though Burton and Ishiguro have a mutual friend in “Wednesday” star Ortega, he said she’s not the one who introduced them.

“I thought this was supposed to be a big secret!” Ishiguro said. “No, Jenna didn’t introduce us. Tim lives quite near where I live in North London, and I was dropping in on him in his very strange and wacky and beautiful house. I mean, it looks like a Tim Burton set. And we started to talk about a project and I wrote a script on spec. We decided to just do it privately between the two of us, and then take it to people.”

He added that it’s not a “war film,” saying: “Genre-wise, it’s very hard to pigeonhole. It’s a Tim Burton film!”

“Klara and the Sun” is set to hit theaters via Sony Pictures on Oct. 23.

After a solid opening, Wonka‘s the Golden Ticket jumped up to the top overall spot in Nielsen’s streaming ratings in its second week. Netflix’s East of Eden also had a good start.

The Golden Ticket, a Netflix competition show based on the world of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (and featuring an AI-generated voice modeled on the film’s star, Gene Wilder), drew 1.08 billion minutes of watch time for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4. That’s a 26 percent improvement on the show’s opening week, when it finished fifth overall.

East of Eden, a limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, finished second among original shows and third overall at 782 million viewing minutes. It premiered Oct. 1. Apple TV’s Ted Lasso (750 million minutes) fell off a bit a week before its season four finale, declining by 11 percent from 842 million minutes a week earlier.

The Great British Baking Show (486 million minutes) returned to the charts a week after its latest season premiered. Neagley, Reacher, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story and Lioness all hung onto spots in the top 10 originals as well.

Toy Story 5, the previous week’s overall top title, fell off by about 55 percent but still led the movie chart with 687 million minutes of viewing.

Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences. The top streaming titles for Sept. 28-Oct. 4, 2026, are below.

In the wake of the tragic events of 9/11, ordinary citizens stepped up to the plate and became heroes. Dale Fabrigar‘s dramatic short, Boatlift 9/11, tells one such story.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Captain Jan (Sofia Helin) and her daughter, Britt (Preslea Elliott), are working their tugboat in New York Harbor when they witness two airliners slam into the Twin Towers. Not knowing exactly what has happened, they know they have to head toward the danger. As Britt gathers bottles of water, they spot hundreds of people waiting for rescue on the dock.

When they arrive, Britt starts handing out bottles of water, but against her mother’s judgment, she begins inviting people on board. Knowing the tugboat isn’t meant for passengers, Captain Jan tries to limit how many people board, since it can only carry so many safely. Then the first tower crashes down, sending a wall of concrete dust and debris over the people on the dock and the tugboat.

Passengers lean over a tugboat’s rail to pull a man from the foggy harbor in Boatlift 9/11.

“When they arrive, Britt starts handing out bottles of water, but against her mother’s judgment, she begins inviting people on board.”

The film’s title, Boatlift 9/11, refers to the largest civilian maritime operation in history, which brought 500,000 New Yorkers to safety. While celebrating the bravery of average Americans, filmmaker Dale Fabrigar, along with writers Tricia Aurand and Marc Paoletti, shows that the operation was more than just picking people up and heading to New Jersey. Their boats could have been overwhelmed. The survivors could have panicked. The dust and debris made it almost impossible to see or breathe. Many obstacles could have led to disaster, but these brave souls came together to save as many as they could.

Yes, director Fabrigar performs a little movie magic, filming on a boat while a CG disaster unfolds in the background. These effects don’t look cheap, and they give Sofia Helin and Preslea Elliott a convincing world to play against. As Britt, Elliott brings out a young person’s desire to save as many people as possible. Helin, as Captain Jan, grounds the rescue in the logical, practical details of saving lives without putting everyone at risk.

Boatlift 9/11 is a thrilling tribute to the everyday heroes who turned their boats toward Lower Manhattan when the country needed them most. Fabrigar focuses on the human side of disaster, not the spectacle. Boatlift 9/11 captures both the courage and the hard choices that made the largest maritime evacuation in history possible.

Frequently asked questions

Do eyelid-tightening creams really work?

If you have concerns in the eye area, such as sagging, fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s-feet, Dr. Magovern notes that eye-tightening creams can help address them over time. She recommends opting for an eye cream that contains hydrating and plumping ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid and peptides, to soften and smooth creases and uneven texture. And just an FYI: You can use undereye creams on your upper eyelid area too.

That said, there are active ingredients you may want to avoid using on that ultrafragile skin. Dr. Magovern recommends avoiding alcohol or salicylic acid on the eyelids. “These ingredients may irritate the sensitive skin around the eyes,” she says, and recommends testing a product on your wrist before putting it on your eyelids as an extra precaution.

What is the best treatment for tightening eyelid skin?

“For the treatment of tightening and firming (without the use of Botox), look for retinol and peptides, which stimulate collagen production, and hydrating ingredients that plump and strengthen the skin by drawing water in, such as hyaluronic acid. Most eye creams are ideally used one to two times daily for tightening,” says Rachel Nazarian, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in NYC.

How can I make my upper eyelids look younger?

“Consistent use of a gentle retinoid can help refine texture and soften fine lines, while lightweight, hydrating eye creams keep the skin looking supple without weighing it down,” says Dendy Engelman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. She shares that daily sunscreen application is essential as well, since eyelids are particularly vulnerable to UV-driven thinning and laxity.

“For more noticeable concerns like crepiness or early sagging, in-office treatments such as laser resurfacing or tightening procedures can make a meaningful difference,” she says.

Can you tighten hooded eyes without a procedure?

It is possible to tighten, but keep expectations in check. “Hydration can help refine the skin quality, A gentle retinoid can support collagen over time, and lightweight, well-formulated eye creams can smooth and hydrate so the area looks less crepey or heavy,” says Dr. Engelman. She also suggests incorporating a caffeine-based product into your routine to temporarily reduce puffiness, which can make the lid appear more lifted. “What you can do is optimize the skin so it looks firmer and more refreshed.”

Should mature skin use eye cream?

According to Pooja Rambhia, MD and board-certified dermatologist based in New Jersey, eye cream will make a huge difference in your daily regimen. “The skin around the eyes is thin and has few oil glands, and it gets thinner and drier with age. Switching to a richer [eye cream] formula with ceramides, peptides, and hyaluronic acid can make a visible difference in crepiness,” she says.

Can more sleep help tighten skin around the eyes?

While getting more sleep is great, it won’t necessarily help with skin firmness, says Dr. Nazarian. She does note that not getting enough sleep can actually cause premature aging, so sleep is good, but not without a topical skincare regimen too.

How do eye firming creams compare to Botox?

While eye firming creams can soften fine lines, very deep wrinkles usually require in-office procedures. “Neuromodulators (like Botox) work best for crow’s feet that appear when you smile. Lines that are visible at rest typically respond best to laser resurfacing and microneedling,” says Dr. Rambhia.

How we evaluated eyelid-firming creams

We tested eyelid firming creams by evaluating ingredients, texture, and efficacy. We looked for formulas that contained hyaluronic acid (to hydrate), peptides (to soften), collagen (to add resilience), and retinol (to minimize lines). The ones we chose had silky textures, absorbed easily, and didn’t pill or leave any greasy residue behind. The ones that made this list did a great job at actually minimizing our testers’ fine lines and wrinkles, making the undereye area more firm, resilient, and smooth.

News movies bollywood

A roughneck sailor named Mitt (Josh Brolin) delivers a drunken sermon to his son, Jay (Austin Abrams), whom he treats like a scrawny disappointment. The Inuit, Mitt says, use every part of a whale as food, tools and cultural sacrament. Add family therapy to that list.

Brian Duffield’s intriguingly deep “Whalefall,” based on the 2023 novel by recent Pulitzer winner Daniel Kraus, opens with abusive Mitt’s death by suicide. In bitterness and grief, Jay goes scuba diving to recover his father’s body and gets swallowed by a sperm whale. Confinement gives Jay time to think. But not much time — his oxygen tank only contains an hour of air.

Is that his dad’s voice Jay hears gurgling from the beast’s belly? Or does he just have the bends?

Adapted by Duffield and Kraus, “Whalefall” is a heart-tugger tangled in a survival tale — or, arguably, a biologically accurate spin on “Pinocchio.” The emotions are real; the sentimental orchestral score by Joseph Trapanese goes overboard. (Knuckle-tatted Mitt seems like he’d prefer a raunchy sea shanty.) Yet, this tense adventure makes a strong case that bad parents can still teach good lessons, even when a kid strives to live in opposition to their folks.

In scenes at Jay’s childhood home, his mother (Elisabeth Shue) and older sisters (Jane Levy and Emily Rudd) have a lightness that implies how much harder Mitt was on his only son, aggravated that he’d spawned not a mini-me but a mini-meh. Loner Jay has grown up to shun his father’s interests — or anyone’s help, period — an independence that, should he survive, he may come to realize isn’t so different from his dad after all.

But first, he’s got to get out of these guts. Having been gobbled up like a meal worm, Jay dredges up flashbacks of his father’s lectures in whale anatomy. Meanwhile, the film works to wring out a tear, occasionally squeezing too hard, but earning several sad sighs of recognition.

Set off the California coast near Monterey Bay, “Whalefall” is shot by Aaron Morton to look realistic. This Pacific Ocean is the true one: silty, cold, gray and hostile. As Jay waddles into the water, the waves seem to want to shove the reedy young man back to shore. Once he’s managed to hurl himself past the surf to rest atop an underwater cliff, the darkness below is as scary as if we’d regressed into primordial prey.

The whale attack is a tragedy of happenstance and filmed as chaotically as if it were happening to the camera. It’d be nice to see more of it, but at least we feel the visceral terror of a whammy of sonar, a lashing from its muscular tongue and the velocity that hurls Jay from the mouth to the throat, then squashes him into its stomach.

There’s seat-shaking violence in how the whale breaches the surface and slams its weight back down (the crafty sound design is by James Miller) and body horror in its claustrophobic, spongy inner chambers. Which wet hole is the way out — and which leads to a pool of skin-melting digestive acid? Sure, in space no one can hear you scream. But underwater, we grit our teeth at Jay’s every fluttering breath.

I read “Whalefall” when it was first published and couldn’t imagine how the book could be turned into a film. Everything seemed against it, from the heavy narration to the creature’s dark insides and the lead’s isolated gloom. At least “127 Hours” had lovely shots of Utah.

Some challenges are fixable. The whale’s gullet is flickeringly lit by a bioluminescent jellyfish that Jay sort of befriends. To the film’s credit, every animal acts like it has as much right to exist as this out-of-his-ecosystem human. An aggressive squid is so angry to be eaten that it made me regret sampling live sashimi in Koreatown.

Other pitfalls just have to be forgiven, like when Abrams has to explain how he’s feeling with an air hose between his teeth. The script wisely cuts back on some of the book’s cuteness, only sparingly making Jay refer to a makeshift tool by its pet name, “Beaky.” Still, he’s compelled to say something every so often and each time we want to scream that he’s wasting his precious oxygen. A couple seemingly significant lines of dialogue come out garbled through the mouthpiece. I say seemingly because I honestly couldn’t tell you what they were, but the tenor felt important.

Abrams is well-cast in the role, not only because last month’s “Resident Evil” proved he can hold the screen pretty much by himself. Though he began acting as a teenager with stints on “The Walking Dead” and “Euphoria” and continues to get cast as characters younger than he is, he’s never had that overly polished child-performer charm. Instead, he comes across as scruffy and vulnerable — even as the spooked junkie in “Weapons,” in which he seemed to mimic a cartoon cat. Check him out alongside Ben Stiller in Mike White’s underseen 2017 anxiety dramedy “Brad’s Status” if you haven’t, and you may sense what I did: a precocious talent biding his time until his roles grew up. This fall feels like his graduation party.

Given the compressed running time, the film has more memories of Mitt appearing practical and wise than of being a bastard. To make that point, it leans on one awful boat trip scene that starts with Mitt smashing a beer can on his forehead until it bleeds. We get more shivers from a glimpse of a very young Jay nervously calling his father “Sir” than we do from Brolin barking caricature-style that “There’s more to existence than fun!” Occasionally, the blunt-headed whale seems to resemble Brolin himself.

I’m writing this on what would have been my dad’s birthday, a kind man who passed away when I was roughly Jay’s age. He was no Mitt and I don’t believe in ghosts. Nevertheless, I, too, am aware of my father’s voice. Sometimes our rational understanding of life and death bumps into a seemingly impossible presence. That’s the big idea churning under “Whalefall’s” surface.

One of the biggest questions leading up to the events of Avengers: Doomsday is the status of Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye.

A constant presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Hawkeye has suited up for every previous Avengers adventure.

Source: Marvel Studios

The last time we saw him, he had taken down the Tracksuit Mafia in New York and was mentoring Kate Bishop.

Now, it looks like Renner is getting ready for his next adventure.

Here Come the West Coast Avengers?

Just hours after VisionQuest mentioned Hawkeye in its first episode, Renner took to Instagram and shared a collection of West Coast Avengers comics.

For those who don’t know, Vision formed the West Coast Avengers during the Secret Wars arc when most of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were pulled away to Battleworld.

West Coast Avengers #1

Over the years, the team has included Hawkeye, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, Tigra, Mockingbird, Firebird, U.S. Agent, and War Machine among its members.

Why It Makes Sense

The decision to create the West Coast Avengers is interesting for numerous reasons.

For starters, the comic series laid the groundwork for the romance between Vision and Scarlet Witch, as well as the creation, death, and revival of their children.

West Coast Avengers

Additionally, creating a West Coast Avengers would give a new group of heroes a chance to shine.

Based on the current MCU roster, Hawkeye, Shang-Chi, Kate Bishop, Wonder Man, Moon Knight, U.S. Agent, and Vision would all be natural fits.

For Hawkeye in particular, the West Coast Avengers would provide a chance to mentor the next generation.

While it remains to be seen whether the West Coast Avengers will actually assemble, things seem to be heading that way.

Peacemaker holds a unique place in DC lore, as its first season was released at the end of the “Zack Snyder era,” and Season 2 arrived as part of DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Season 2 was the first live-action streaming series released as part of the new DCU continuity, coming to HBO Max just over a month after Superman debuted in theaters as the DCU’s first new movie. Led by John Cena as Christopher Smith, Season 2 fully integrated the character into a wider universe, while also following up on the story established in 2021’s The Suicide Squad.

Part of that story included Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., who was first introduced in Superman before serving as a main antagonist in Peacemaker Season 2. In the streaming series, Flag sought revenge against Peacemaker for killing his son, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag Jr., during The Suicide Squad‘s third act while working with ARGUS and Lex Luthor to access a dimensional portal. In the Season 2 finale, Flag got what he wanted, throwing Peacemaker through that portal and exiling him to a planet called Salvation. This made him one of the DCU’s most hated characters, although Grillo recently took that designation in stride.

Speaking at the red-carpet event for Tulsa King Season 4 with MovieWeb, Frank Grillo addressed the idea of playing one of the DCU’s most-hated characters, Rick Flag Sr. Getting into a fun exchange over this question, Grillo responded that Peacemaker “killed [Flag’s] son,” justifying Flag’s brutal actions against Cena’s titular hero:

MovieWeb: “Are you doing ok being one of the most hated characters in the DCU right now?”

Grillo: “Hated? Why am I hated?!”

MovieWeb: “What you did to Peacemaker!”

Grillo: “Peacemaker killed my son! Let me help you here. He killed, murdered my son, my child.”

MovieWeb: “He feels really bad for it, though.”

Grillo: “Whose problem [is that]? Is it mine or yours? You’re crazy.”

Clearly, Grillo has plenty of reason to agree with Flag’s rationale for his actions, as losing a son would send anyone into a rage and make them want vengeance. Making light of the matter in the interview, the Peacemaker star offered a sound explanation for why he went after Christopher Smith, not caring much about how bad Smith felt about what he did to the younger Flag.

Now, Grillo is set to return to the DCU next year for a role in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, bringing Rick Flag Sr. back to the big screen on Jul. 9, 2027. While his specific role is still a mystery, Grillo has teased that he will have plenty to do in this movie, which will pit Superman and Lex Luthor as allies when the all-powerful Brainiac threatens to make Earth part of his collection of planets. Whether he eventually gets a rematch with Peacemaker is still up in the air, but Grillo seems set for an extended future in this franchise.

Both seasons of Peacemaker are streaming on HBO Max. Grillo will next be seen in Season 4 of Tulsa King on Paramount+ (starting on Oct. 16, 2026), playingBill Bevilaqua.
