The SAG-AFTRA Health Plan has reached a $15 million settlement on a class action lawsuit filed in December 2020 by 10 members of the actors guild, including the late former SAG president Ed Asner, who died in 2021.

As part of the agreement, SAG-AFTRA will pay $15 million to older members of SAG-AFTRA who lost their coverage in the guild’s health plan due to changes made in 2020 that raised the amount of annual earnings required to qualify for the plan and removing members’ ability to count residuals towards that earnings threshold.

The trustees of the health plan at the time said that such changes were necessary to keep the health plan solvent, as the plan’s funds were falling during the COVID-19 pandemic and were projected to run out by 2024. A Medicare Advantage marketplace through healthcare vendor Via Benefits was set up to allow those who no longer qualified to seek alternative coverage.

But the plaintiffs in the class action suit argued that the changes violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) as members were not informed of the financial problems the health plan faced during SAG-AFTRA’s mutual bargaining agreement negotiations in 2020 and that the changes also were a form of age discrimination as they affected senior members of the guild who had already received their pensions.

As part of the settlement, which can be read here, the $15 million will be made available to “senior performers” who lost their coverage in the SAG-AFTRA health plan because of the earnings requirement changes and will make additional payments of up to $700,000 per year for certain senior performers who no longer qualify through 2030 based on their residual payments.

In addition, SAG-AFTRA’s health plan trustees have agreed to a new system to ensure better transparency of the plan’s finances to members ahead of contract negotiations with Hollywood studios, the next of which is set to take place this summer. A formalized process will also be created to quickly notify members of any future changes that need to be made to the plan’s structure to ensure its financial security.

“As reported to the Court, the attorneys for the class recommend the settlement because they believe it provides substantial monetary relief to Plan participants who were adversely affected by the 2020 Plan amendments as well as structural changes that will inure to the benefit of all Plan participants, and avoids the risk and costs of continued litigation,” read a statement from the attorneys for both sides of the lawsuit.

“The Class Participants who brought this complaint, on behalf of performers who were negatively impacted by the 2020 benefit changes, feel this settlement is a beginning to reestablishing trust and benefits. Defendants…maintain that the 2020 changes, including those that affected Senior Performers, were necessary to preserve the financial health of the Plan and the Plan’s continued ability to continue to provide high quality benefits to the greatest number of participants, and that the changes have achieved precisely that result,” the statement continued.

BTS singer Jimin spills the beans on his skin care.

In a new video for Vogue, BTS singer Jimin gave fans a look at what his day at work looks like. The singer shot the video in the US.

Hey, members of the ARMY, prepare to get your hearts melted once again. Vogue just spent the day with none other than the charming and talented Jimin of the iconic K-pop boyband BTS in the ever-vibrant New York City. As he prepared to slay his performance on the iconic The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jimin took Vogue on a ride along, giving the viewers a glimpse of his life on the road.

From exploring local record shops to rehearsing in Times Square, Jimin talks candidly about his highly anticipated solo album, FACE. He opened up about the challenges of performing without his beloved BTS bandmates and the unique experience of showcasing his individuality as a solo artist. As members of the ARMY watch one of the biggest stars in the world, they can also prepare to get a glimpse into what makes Jimin the beloved and iconic artist he is today.

Baby Mochi, as ARMYs lovingly call the vocalist, is known for his ability to tease his fans by just giving enough information. When asked, “When you’re alone in your hotel room or on your way back, what do you wear?” Jimin’s response was quite simple: “If you’re curious about that… come over to my house.”

However, he did give some inside details about how he always looks fresh on the road. After giving fans a glimpse of his hotel room, the vocalist revealed his secret to staying fresh on the road— sheet masks. Holding up a single pack of his favorite sheet masks with a smile, Jimin made it clear that this wasn’t product placement, but rather his own personal purchase. According to Jimin, he always brings sheet masks with him when he travels because hotel rooms can be harsh on the skin, causing dryness. To ensure his skin stays protected, he makes it a point to use a sheet mask before going to bed.

There was one thing the BTS star never forgets: to thank the fans who helped him reach his level of stardom. “The place I am shooting at tomorrow… right around that location is where I first performed in the U.S. for twenty to thirty thousand people. ARMY is the name of our BTS fanbase. ARMY would translate all our songs in English for us and keep sending them to America,” he said. “Then, thanks, to our American fans, we could get played on the radio. That’s how I was able to come here.”

It goes without saying that in the exclusive Vogue feature, Jimin’s passion, determination, and undeniable star quality shine through.

Kim Kardashian will be playing a “stylish” and “terrifying” role written specifically for her on the upcoming season of “American Horror Story.”

The reality TV megastar turned beauty and fashion magnate will be starring in the 12th season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s “American Horror Story: Delicate” this summer.

Kardashian made the announcement on Monday via an eerie Instagram video set to the lullaby “Rock-a-Bye Baby” and the sound of children playing.

Kardashian will star alongside “AHS” veteran Emma Roberts, who returns to the franchise after a four-year hiatus. Roberts starred in “AHS” installments “Coven,” “Freak Show,” “Cult,” “Apocalypse” and “1984.” She also toplined Murphy’s “Scream Queens.”

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Halley Feiffer will be the sole writer and showrunner for the 12th season of “AHS.” Feiffer has written episodes for “American Crime Story,” “Roar,” “SMILF” and “Mozart in the Jungle.”

The upcoming season will be based on Danielle Valentine’s thriller “Delicate Condition,” which hits bookstores in August. The novel follows an indie film actress as she navigates a taxing IVF journey, which constantly seems to be sabotaged. She becomes convinced there’s someone sinister plotting to ensure she never gets pregnant; when she turns to the men in her life, they refuse to listen.

Murphy reportedly was so impressed by Kardashian when she hosted a 2021 episode of “Saturday Night Live” that he began discussing bringing her into the “AHS” fold last summer.

“Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the ‘AHS’ family,” co-creator Murphy told THR. “Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”

Kardashian starred on E!’s reality mega-hit “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” for more than 15 years and relaunched the reality family drama with Hulu’s “The Kardashians” in 2022. This marks the first major scripted role for the reality star. She’s played herself in a variety of cameos on sitcoms including “How I Met Your Mother,” “Last Man Standing” and “30 Rock” and in the 2018 film “Ocean’s Eight.”

As far as scripted gigs, her acting resume features only a handful of roles over the last 20 years. She played Elle in the 2009 drama series “Beyond the Break” for four episodes and appeared on one episode of “CSI: NY” in 2009. She also portrayed Nikki LePree on “Drop Dead Diva” for four episodes in 2012.

The first box office projections for The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are here, and they may not be as high as many would have guessed.

Marvel Studios’ luck at the box office hasn’t been all too great lately.

With the overwhelmingly negative reaction to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the MCU‘s 2023 began with a false start.

The third entry in the franchise is also set to make a great deal less than Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) globally, with the film projected to reach $470-$540 million, compared to the second movie’s $622.6 million. Currently, the movie sits at $473.4 at the global box office.

But will James Gunn‘s upcoming Marvel Studios return fare any better?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Box Office Projections

Marvel

According to Box Office Pro, Vol. 3 is projected to take home $120 – $155 million domestically in its opening weekend and $288 – $403 by the end of its theatrical run.

Comparatively, the first Guardians film banked $94.3 million domestically in its first weekend and $333.7 million by the end of its run.

Vol. 2‘s domestic numbers were much higher, scoring $146.5 million in its first weekend and $389 million total.

While not surprising given the popularity of the franchise, on both extremes of the estimates for Vol. 3, the highly anticipated blockbuster is set to make more than Quantumania domestically, which opened to a solid $106 million three-day weekend yet won’t even crack $220 million in total.

Here’s how the other most recent MCU movies have fared on their domestic opening weekend:

  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: $181 million
  • Thor: Love and Thunder: $144 million
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: $187 million
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home: $260 million
  • Eternals: $71 million
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: $75 million

Will Guardians Follow the Recent Superhero Trend?

Given that Vol. 3 is the much-hyped conclusion to Gunn’s time with the characters, and this current iteration of the titular team as a whole, many likely expected a more bombastic performance.

However, with the general audiences’ encroaching burnout with Marvel Studios’ string of projects with mediocre quality, it’s no surprise that the MCU’s momentum isn’t at full speed.

Marvel Studios isn’t the only superhero house that has had trouble with the performance of its projects.

Recently, Shazam! Fury of the Gods had a rocky debut. Not only did the movie miss the mark for critics, but it also had one of the worst DCEU opening performances ever.

The Zachary Levi-led sequel made only $3.4 million on its opening night, compared to Birds of Prey‘s $4 million, which held the spot at the bottom of the list since 2020. Since Fury of the Gods‘ release on March 17, the movie has brought in $56 million domestically and $123 million worldwide.

One key factor that will make or break Vol. 3’s performance will be how it lands critically. A negative or even simply mediocre reaction will encourage the trend of lackluster performance, while overwhelming positivity could lead to the success it deserves.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5.

Robin revs up some new wheels this September, and it’s not Bruce Wayne’s Bentley.

Announced at Megacon 2023, “The Dawn of DC” era will include a new Batman and Robin ongoing title this fall, and it turns out that Bruce Wayne’s willful son, Damian, won’t have to ride shotgun anymore with his dad. A “Robin Mobile” will debut in the pages of this new book, spinning out of the current Lazarus Planet story and Batman Vs. Robin. The Robin Mobile will be designed by series artist Simone Di Meo. DeMeo’s regular collaborator on the book will be writer Joshua Williamson.

Robin Revs Up Robin Mobile After One Long Bat-Year!

As fans of the 90s will remember, the third Robin, Tim Drake, was the first to have his own vehicle. Dubbed “The Redbird,” it debuted in the first issue of his ongoing series back in 1993. For the 1996 Batman And Robin feature film, however, The Redbird was assigned as the name of Dick Grayson’s motorcycle. And we will leave that comparison there.

The Bat-family have seen their share of difficult times these past several months, as chronicled in Batman Vs. Robin. Batman had been forced to go up against his young charges, who had been put under the sway of The Devil Nezha. Further, a resurrected Alfred Pennyworth that had appeared from the start of this adventure turned out to be merely an agent of Nezha, created from Pennyworth’s soul. The climax and conclusion of this story saw the explosion of Lazarus Island’s volcano and kicked off Mark Waid‘s Lazarus Planet before the family could catch their breath. Drawn by Riccardo Federici, the volcano’s Lazarus Resin rained down upon the world and either endowed, nullified, or transferred the abilities of metahumans and magic users. Possessed by The Devil Nezha, Batman became a bat-like creature, while Damian found himself in possession of Superman’s heat vision for example. After dying from injuries Nezha inflicted upon him, Batman was resurrected by Damian and a handful of mystics, Zatanna chief among them. Gothamites offered a part of their soul to bring him back, declaring in a unified chant “We are Batman!” After a year of being blacklisted after Joker War, this was the recharge that Bruce Wayne needed along with his son back by his side.

Classified US Military documents remained leaked on a Minecraft Discord server for a month before someone noticed them.

According to a report by CNN, the leaked documents were posted on the Discord server early last month and contained information on Russian casualties and weapon systems available to Ukraine. “This sh*t was sitting in a Minecraft Discord server for a month, and no one noticed,” Aric Toler, a researcher at Bellingcat, said.

The documents began to pick up some traction after a user posted parts of the documents to 4chan. On April 7, some of the Discord members began to worry that they’d be in trouble for reposting the documents. The user who posted the documents on March 1 deleted their Twitter and Discord accounts shortly after.

According to CNN, US officials believe that the documents have been changed to make the Ukraine casualty higher than it is.

Thomas Rid, an expert on state-backed information, said it’s unlikely that a foreign country such as Russia isn’t behind this because “The fact that unedited and edited–doctored–versions of some files are available online makes me skeptical.”

Although who was responsible for the leak is still unknown, the information from the documents could have serious ramifications, as they provide Russia with Ukrainian military strategies.

Indiana Jones returns to the Festival de Cannes for the world premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, directed by James Mangold, starring Harrison Ford as the legendary hero. 15 years after the presentation in 2008 of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull directed by Steven Spielberg, the final installment of the Lucasfilm saga will be screened on Thursday, May 18 in Cannes and will be released in theaters on June 28 in France and June 30 in the United States. On this occasion, the Festival will also pay a special tribute to Harrison Ford for his career.

It is to the memorable music of John Williams, that James Mangold and Harrison Ford will climb the steps of the Palais des Festivals on May 18 alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore and Mads Mikkelsen. An event that will mark the highly anticipated comeback of the famous adventurer in the Official Selection.

“In 1995, I was honored to come to Cannes with my first film Heavy, as part of Director’s Fortnite. Twenty-eight years later, I am proud to return with a slightly larger spectacle. My legendary collaborators and I are very excited to share a brand new and final Indiana Jones adventure with you!”, declared director James Mangold.

Straight out of the imagination of George Lucas, well before the great epic Star Wars, it was in 1981 that Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first part of the saga, was revealed to the world. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the adventures of Indiana Jones conquered the hearts of millions of fans who followed him for four decades.

The embodiment of a heroic America, Harrison Ford has played some of the most iconic roles of the last 50 years including Han Solo for George Lucas in Star Wars IV, V, and VI, and Rick Deckard in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner (1982) and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 (2017).

In 2023, James Mangold directs him to play again the adventurer with the hat and the whip. The American director and screenwriter is back in Cannes, 28 years after the presentation of his first film Heavy. He then directed, among others, Copland in 1997, the biopic on Johnny Cash, Walk the Line in 2005 with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, which earned the Oscar for Best Actress, but also 3:10 to Yuma in 2007 and Ford v Ferrari in 2019.

The Festival de Cannes would like to thank The Walt Disney Company and LucasFilm for their trust and is looking forward to hosting the screening of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which promises another great cinematic adventure around the world.

Indiana Jones returns to the Festival

Cinematographer Larkin Seiple discusses how the camera took Netflix’s and A24’s road rage comedy off the rails.

This time last year, A24 released “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” in which the first version of Evelyn Wong that we meet is the least successful out of all her multiverse iterations, the one where the decision tree of her life has led to the worst outcome. But some of that is down to bad luck or chance. But in A24’s “Beef” — which shares a cinematographer with “EEAAO” — Danny (Steven Yeun) and Amy (Ali Wong) seem to actively make the worst choices they possibly can over and over again.

And so Lee Sung Jin’s Netflix series gave cinematographer Larkin Seiple a very different challenge from his work on The Daniels’ film. The camera itself is often the straight man of “Beef,” finding just the right compositions to frame and reframe the protagonists in their ever-deepening revenge spiral without ever drawing too much attention to itself.

“We wanted to make the characters feel very real and so we kind of stepped off the gas, if you will, visually and tried to make it possible to actually relate to them,” Seiple told IndieWire. “The whole point of the show, the humor, is coming from real people in real places doing really dumb things.”

The look of the show, therefore, damns the characters by merely observing their living spaces. “Beef” looks polished and sharp and painfully L.A., but Seiple’s camera finds ways to create telling contrasts that make what the characters do seem all the more desperate, self-absorbed, and small.

An early moment that captures the dark hilarity of the series finds Danny, caught up in a crypto crash and with nowhere to turn, attempting suicide by turning on a bunch of Habatchi grills inside all at once. “We liked the idea that it was what he thought was an elegant ring of fire around him. At the same time, he was lit by a computer screen telling him how to kill himself. Which was the kind of constant bounce of the show,” Seiple said. “It’s something very real but also something very absurd at the same time.”

Seiple credits Grace Yun’s production design for helping accentuate this sense of contrast. “Steven’s apartment is like practically a mirror of the apartment I first moved into [when I moved to Los Angeles], so I was very excited to have all these vertical blinds. Even though there’s all these windows, it’s always kind of dark. It always feels a little like you’re in a cave, but it’s also cluttered and filled with all sorts of wonderful set decoration. There was a wonderful Medieval Times cup that was above his TV that I loved,” Seiple said. “Then you have Amy’s house, which is beautiful and luxurious, but it is so cold and so empty that it feels almost worse, somehow, than where [Danny] lives. It doesn’t feel like a family lives there. It feels like a piece of art that is designed to impress and not actually designed to be lived in.”

The camera observes both characters with an acute sense of their emotional distress. “There is a lack of color [in the lighting of Amy’s environments]. They’re all monochromatic. It’s this sense of control, if you will. There’s an absence of flaws, whereas Danny’s [house] is constantly daylight and gross fluorescent lights, and then there’s warm sodium. It’s always mixed lighting in his world because there’s always too much going on. Everything, no matter what scene it is, has to feel like a mess.”

Lighting only played one part in ratcheting up the slow-burn tension of the 10 episodes. “We created a lot of rules,” Seiple said. “You don’t really notice it in the show, but the camera is only with the main characters for the first two episodes, and it never goes [follows] a secondary character until they become [active] in the story. So in Episode 2, Paul’s [Young Mazino] flirting up a client while Danny’s in a bathtub and he gets a text about Kayla. And then that’s the first time the camera leaves Danny. We pull back with Paul as he texts Kayla. You’re not supposed to notice it, but that’s the first time that Paul’s the main character, because now he’s part of the plot.”

“Beef”

ANDREW COOPER/NETFLIX

The show’s visual language remains restrained throughout most of “Beef,” showing the characters only in the light that they deserve; the camera traps them in single shots that go on just long enough to hint at how tenuous a grip Danny and Amy have on their lives but without the sweeping camera movement that announces a Capital-O Oner. But these shots are still precisely timed so that the audience can be thunderstruck.

“In Episode 7, there’s the flashback scene where [Danny] finds Paul’s college acceptance letters and he just leaves the shot and you’re like, ‘That’s weird.’ Then in the distance, you see him drop them in the garbage and it’s this really damning sequence,” Seiple said. “We’re like, ‘Oh. He is not a good brother.’ And I love just living in that moment. Throughout the show, we’re constantly trying to find ways to just live in a moment and not cut around it.”

But “Beef” can’t live in the moment forever. The visual language of the show expands from, in Seiple’s words, invisible and observational to “full Coen Brothers mayhem” by the series’ end, with some especially wonderfully bold color choices taking place in Episode 9 during a heist gone wrong at the home of the wealthy Jordan (Maria Bello).

“We stumbled upon a Jewish temple in the middle of Simi Valley,” Seiple said of the imposing structure that manages to provide both tension and dark comedy. “It’s this massive, insanely beautiful temple on the middle of a hill in the middle of a summer camp, and the temple is designed to be cylindrical, like [the scrolls of a Torah],” Seiple said. “When we saw those doors that could open up, we started getting excited and we built that into the script where Naomi [Ashley Park] is running away and the doors are closing. We kind of found a muse, if you will. We knew that for Episodes 9 and 10, we really had to find locations that could do a lot and still let the characters play out [their mistakes].”

Character guided every decision Seiple made for “Beef,” including how to shoot in darkness and the more hallucinatory journey of Episode 10. “It doesn’t matter how dark it gets; if you can still see light reflecting in their eyes, it’s going to work because you can feel what they’re thinking. So with Episode 10 especially where we’re literally all at night in the middle of nowhere, where there should only be moonlight — luckily because they’re on drugs, we can start to let the lighting become a bit more surreal and we can light it in a much more dramatic way,” Seiple said. “And I think you have to earn that. That’s why it works.”

Warning: This story contains spoilers from “Connor’s Wedding,” the third episode of “Succession” Season 4, now streaming on HBO Max.

If you watched Sunday night’s dramatic third episode of this season’s “Succession,” you bore witness to the death of billionaire CEO Logan Roy, portrayed by two-time lead actor nominee and presumed 2023 Emmy contender Brian Cox. As a result, the burning question on awards pundits’ minds has turned toward a new type of uncertainty — where will Cox seek to campaign for his legendary portrayal as the head of media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo?

Cox’s acclaimed performance has received multiple accolades for the HBO drama, including those two Emmy nominations for the second and third seasons for lead actor (drama). He was nominated alongside his co-star Jeremy Strong, who plays his eldest son Kendall, and who won for the show’s second season.

Emmy rules for 2023 state, “Only performers appearing in less than 50% of the eligible episodes can submit in the guest performer categories.” Assuming Cox doesn’t appear in any of the remaining episodes, the 76-year-old Scottish actor will have three options available to choose from. He can stay in lead actor (drama) with Strong, switch to supporting actor (drama) alongside Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen and Alan Ruck, or vie for guest actor (drama) recognition, facing likely contenders Arian Moayed and Alexander Skarsgård. If Cox appears in any of the two further episodes (in a flashback, for instance), he would no longer qualify for guest.

Brian Cox in HBO’s “Succession”
Graeme Hunter

A decision on Cox is not the only question for the “Succession” troupe. Kieran Culkin, who plays the sarcastic, jokey Roman, and Sarah Snook as the political fixer daughter Shiv, are both considering switching to leading bids. Both have been previously nominated twice in their respective supporting categories, and have yet to win.

Sources also share many of the actors’ teams are waiting to see how the rest of the season plays out before making final decisions. This is due mainly to “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong — known for being extremely cautious about leaks and spoilers — who has kept this season’s episodes under tight lock and key. A three-time winner for writing, the first solo scribe to win three times for the same series, Armstrong has shown very few creatives much of this season beyond this week’s fourth episode titled “Honeymoon States.”

Reportedly, episodes will be available to talent and publicists on the Wednesday before the Sunday episode debuts.

Seven episodes remain from this fourth and final season of the black dramedy, with the series finale scheduled to air on May 28, Memorial Day weekend. That raises the question: Will Armstrong allow the respective campaign teams to view the final three episodes before the May 9 Emmy submission deadline when all categories must be finalized?

Logan’s inevitable demise has been teased across the show’s multiple seasons, beginning with the pilot episode “Celebration” in June 2018, when Logan suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on his private plane. Since then, the fight for the company’s control amid the uncertainty about his health and his children’s growing thirst for power has been at the forefront.

Based on conversations, and merely speculative, if Cox is deemed ineligible for the guest acting race, we shouldn’t expect him to pivot to supporting to face off against last year’s winner Macfadyen and the still- unrecognized Ruck. In what would surely be a historic milestone for lead drama actors, Cox would likely have the shortest screen time of any actor ever, if he were nominated. He would, essentially, become the Emmy version of Anthony Hopkins (“The Silence of the Lambs”), who won the Oscar for only 21 minutes of screentime.

HBO

Culkin’s decision will likely rely upon Cox’s ultimate choice. If Cox did choose the guest route, he would probably win in a cakewalk.

For Snook, her team is likely looking at the lead actress drama slate of contenders that seems to have only one assured name (at the moment) — Melanie Lynskey for the second season of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” — and seeing an opportunity to nab a deserved nom. You can argue Shiv has been a leading character throughout the series, especially compared to her co-star J. Smith Cameron, who will likely remain in the supporting race.

What makes the possible “Succession” category change-ups interesting is that it’s not the only series with supporting players considering leaping leading status.

Last year, Rhea Seehorn finally picked up her first career nom for playing Kim Wexler, Saul Goodman’s confidante in AMC’s “Better Call Saul.” Seehorn’s team is mulling over a decision on whether to seek lead actress consideration for the esteemed performer. This is potentially a savvy move that could pay off with the final season of the beloved cable series, especially with her co-star Bob Odenkirk, being a top pick in his category. In addition, her veteran and six-time Emmy-winning co-star Carol Burnett having to submit as a supporting actress removes the chances of vote-splitting.

“The White Lotus” swept the limited series races last year, including supporting actress for Jennifer Coolidge as the scene-stealing Tanya McQuoid. However, the second season, set in Sicily, has since moved to the drama categories after the TV Academy deemed it ineligible for the duplicate submission. Multiple sources share that Coolidge is also considering a move to lead after winning the Screen Actors Guild Award for female actor in a drama series.

Notably, SAG doesn’t hand out awards for supporting, and three of her four fellow nominees — Julia Garner, Laura Linney (“Ozark”) and Zendaya (“Euphoria”) — are not eligible this Emmy season, with only Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”) competing, also in supporting.

Variety already exclusively reported Lynskey’s co-star Sophie Nélisse from “Yellowjackets,” who plays the teenage version of Lynskey’s Shauna, will join her to compete in the lead actress drama category.

Will these Hail Mary category plays pay off in the end? Only the race will tell.

Feeble Little Horse is a part of a slate of Pennsylvania bands making esoteric, off-kilter noise pop, including They Are Gutting a Body of Water and labelmates Spirit of the Beehive; the Pittsburgh quartet has a knack for evoking life’s chaos and left turns, pairing deadpan lyrics with muddled, rip-roaring guitars. On “Tin Man,” the lead single from their upcoming album Girl With Fish, singer/bassist Lydia Slocum is once again exasperated by a flawed man, her staccato vocals cutting through a warbled riff and clanking makeshift percussion. She picks apart a manipulator whose lustrous words disguise an embarrassing emptiness inside: “Took him apart and I found nobody/But when I dent you, I end up bruised,” she sings as Slint-style guitar feedback seeps in, offering a screeching backdrop to a performance that’s equally dissociative and inviting. Slocum may have gotten hurt, but after that lacerating read, it’s the guy who will really feel the sting.

The devastated father of two British-Israeli sisters who were killed in a brutal West Bank drive-by shooting today tragically described how their ‘family of seven is now a family of four’ after his wife died from her wounds.

Rabbi Leo Dee told a press conference from Erfat Settlement that his daughters Rina and Maia, 15 and 20, were killed by 20 bullets from a Kalashnikov rifle and his wife Lucy was shot twice.

He said he had been informed of an attack and called his family before realising he had received a missed call from his daughter Maia.

Speaking at the press conference, broadcast on the BBC, the heartbroken rabbi said: ‘I hadn’t noticed it ring, I hadn’t picked up the phone, the feeling she called me during the attack and I wasn’t able to speak to her will come back and haunt me for a while.’

Rabbi Dee said that he saw a photograph on Instagram of his car with a bullet hole in it, with the family’s suitcases with blood on them, and drove ‘like a lunatic’ to the scene. He said that he was able to identify his daughter Maia at the scene after police produced her identity card, and he then drove to the hospital where his wife had been taken.

He said: ‘I went numb. I didn’t cry yet, I was highly rational. I drove another hour and a half to the hospital.

‘Lucy had had two bullets – one through the brain stem and one lodged at the top of her spine. There was an operation. There was reason for hope. But alas our family of seven is now a family of four.’

Three days after the attack, Lucy has died in hospital as a result of her injuries

Rabbi Dee described his wife and daughters as ‘three beautiful innocent young ladies in the prime of their lives’ and urged people to post images of the Israeli flag on social media in their memory.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the British Jewish community have expressed their condolences to the family.

Netanyahu vows to ‘restore calm and security’ to Israel amid soaring tensions

Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday he would ‘restore calm and security’ to the country, after rising tensions over the last week in the Middle East.

Tensions have mounted in Israel since last week, with heavy clashes, shootings, rocket strikes and a car-ramming attack marring a period when the Muslim holy month of Ramadan coincides with the Jewish Passover and Christian Easter.

The day after Israeli police stormed the prayer hall of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque – Islam’s third-holiest site – in a pre-dawn raid, more than 30 rockets were fired from Lebanese soil into Israel, an attack which the Israeli army said was most likely carried out by the Palestinian armed movement Hamas.

Israel then bombarded Gaza and southern Lebanon, targeting ‘terror infrastructures’ that it said belonged to Hamas.

‘We will not allow the terrorist Hamas to establish itself in Lebanon’, by acting on ‘all fronts,’ Netanyahu said Monday.

In the same news conference Netanyahu also announced that he would reverse his earlier decision to sack his defence minister, Yoav Gallant.

‘There have been disputes between us, even difficult disputes on certain subjects, but I have decided to leave these disputes behind us,’ he said.

‘Gallant remains in his post and we will continue to work together for the safety of the citizens of Israel.’

Mr Netanyahu posted on Twitter: ‘On behalf of all the citizens of Israel, I send my heartfelt condolences to the Dee family on the death of the mother of the family, the late Leah (Lucy), who was murdered in the severe attack in the Bekaa last Friday, along with her two daughters Maya and the late Rina.’

The Board of Deputies of British Jews posted: ‘Our hearts go out to the Dee family at the terrible news that Lucy Dee has now also passed away after the Palestinian terror attack on Friday that killed two of her daughters, Maia and Rina. May their memories be for eternal blessing.’

Mrs Dee, 45, was seriously injured in the attack on their car near an Israeli settlement in the West Bank on Friday and on Monday, Israel’s Hadassah hospital announced that she had died, according to reports by AP.

Rabbi Dee was formerly the senior rabbi at Radlett United Synagogue in Hertfordshire and assistant rabbi in Hendon, north London.

The sisters were born in London and the family moved to Israel in 2014, according to The Telegraph.

The Radlett United Synagogue told the PA news agency: ‘The Radlett Jewish community is devastated at the terrible news of Rebbetzen Lucy Dee’s passing, in addition to the deaths of her and Rabbi Leo Dee’s daughters, Maia and Rina.

‘The community greatly admired the inspiring Dee family during their time at Radlett. Lucy and her daughters were idealistic, pure-hearted and kind.

‘We and the world have been robbed of their presence, but their light can never be extinguished. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Rabbi Leo and his children, Keren, Tali and Yehudah.’

The family lived in the Efrat settlement, near the Palestinian city of Bethlehem, according to the settlement’s mayor, Oded Revivi.

The three family members were among six people caught up in the attack carried out by Palestinian assailants.

The family was in one of three cars on their way to Tiberias in the Galilee for a family holiday.

In footage from the funeral on Sunday, broadcast on Sky News, Rabbi Dee said: ‘Maia and Rina, you have loved us, you have inspired us, and in turn we will love you forever.

‘May your souls be bound in the bond of eternal life.

‘And may we, and no-one else in the world, ever know so much sorrow.’

Rabbi Leo Dee, the father of Maya and Rina, broke down in tears as he paid tribute to his ‘beautiful angels’ at their funeral on Sunday

Officials at Hadassah University hospital confirmed the mother’s death this afternoon, and her family said they have decided to donate her organs in order to save the lives of others, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Rabbi Dee broke down in tears at Maia and Rina’s funeral on Sunday as he told how the memory of his daughters will be kept alive. Now, Rabbi Dee must grapple with the heartbreaking reality that his wife is no longer alive.

Lucy’s death coincides with that of 15-year-old Palestinian Mohammed Fayez Balhan, who was shot by Israeli forces in a raid on a refugee camp near Jericho in the occupied West Bank earlier today.

Both incidents come as violence continues to spiral following clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian Muslim worshippers at the al-Aqsa Mosque – a holy site for both Jews and Muslims – in Jerusalem’s old town last week amid Jewish Passover celebrations and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu posted on Twitter: ‘On behalf of all the citizens of Israel, I send my heartfelt condolences to the Dee family on the death of the mother of the family, the late Leah (Lucy), who was murdered in the severe attack in the Bekaa last Friday, along with her two daughters Maya and the late Rina.’

The Board of Deputies of British Jews posted: ‘Our hearts go out to the Dee family at the terrible news that Lucy Dee has now also passed away after the Palestinian terror attack on Friday that killed two of her daughters, Maia and Rina. May their memories be for eternal blessing.’

The Dee family was originally from London but moved to Efrat in the West Bank nine years ago.

Lucy will be laid to rest tomorrow in Efrat, two days after the funeral of her daughters. Rabbi Dee is set to speak on his wife’s death at a press conference this evening.

In the meantime, family, friends and neighbours have continued to pay tribute to Lucy and her two late daughters.

Roi Indik, a neighbour of the family, wrote on social media: ‘Yesterday there was a heartbreaking funeral, and the mother’s funeral will take place tomorrow. How much pain, how much sorrow? It is indescribable.’

Merav Sela, a friend of Lucy, said: ‘Lucy had the smile, the laughter, the joy. The one who didn’t give up both Hebrew and English – that’s how we had funny conversations where I spoke in English and she in Hebrew. I always envied her for her never-ending energy.’

On Sunday, mourners, including school friends of Maia and Rina, gathered at the funeral in the settlement of Kfar Etzion in the West Bank and sang songs of grief under in the cemetery’s prayer hall.

In an emotional tribute, Rabbi Dee described his daughters as ‘flames’, adding they will ‘bring more light into the world’ after their deaths.

Choking back tears, Rabbi Dee added: ‘You have inspired and loved us. In return we will love you forever.’

The sisters’ bodies were covered in pieces of cloth embroidered with the star of David, one black and the other blue.

Rabbi Dee hugged his daughter’s corpses tightly, then sat with his three surviving children.

In his tribute to Maia he said: ‘You were always an angel and now you will always be our guardian angel.

‘You wanted to sign up for another year of national service, where you could really make a difference. But mummy and I wanted you to start your studies and maybe meet a special boy.

‘But you insisted that girls like you always do two years of volunteering so we waited to see what and where this would be.’

Turning to Rina, he said: ‘You were such a great student. Such a great friend. You dreamt of travelling the world, now you are travelling to heaven.’

Family friend and senior rabbi at Hendon United Synagogue in north-west London, Mordechai Ginsbury, told Sky News he was ‘devastated’.

‘To think that in a few moments, so senselessly and painfully, this has happened, such a tragic loss of life, of goodness, is just devastating,’ he said.

He added: ‘They were just a delightful family, full of commitment, vigour, passion, energy, and they did wonderful things for us in the community.’

Heartbreaking pictures from Sunday funeral service showed mourners screaming out in pain and embracing one another as they try to process the shock death of the sisters which came amid soaring Israeli-Palestinian tensions.

Rabbi Dee, who gathered with relatives at the front of the prayer hall next to a low podium, moved to Israel from London with his family nine years ago and had been living in the West Bank settlement of Efrat.

Mr Dee was formerly a senior rabbi at the Radlett United Synagogue in Hertfordshire and before that he was an assistant rabbi in Hendon, north London.

Discussing the tragedy, the Radlett United Synagogue said: ‘The Radlett Jewish community is devastated at the terrible news of Rebbetzen Lucy Dee’s passing, in addition to the deaths of her and Rabbi Leo Dee’s daughters, Maia and Rina.

Mordechai Ginsbury, senior rabbi at Hendon United Synagogue, who is still in touch with the family said he was feeling ‘absolute devastation, pain, grief and shock’.

Speaking to Sky News, he said: ‘To think that in a few moments, so senselessly and painfully, this has happened, such a tragic loss of life, of goodness, is just devastating.’

Rabbi Ginsbury said he spoke to Rabbi Dee on Sunday night, where the father and husband admitted that ‘one of the things that is sustaining him is the blanket of warmth and love which is enveloping them within Israel and around the world’.

Mr Dee, who quit his job as a City investment banker to become a rabbi, believes that the killers will be ‘brought to justice’.

He previously revealed that he traced the car down with a tracking device, where he saw his wife being airlifted to hospital but his daughters were already dead.

London-born Rabbi Dee said: ‘My daughters were friends of each other as well as sisters. Now we are diminished. Maya was doing national service in the south, and was passionate about helping others. Rina is what you would call an A* pupil. We were proud of them.’

He added: ‘I don’t blame the terrorists as they will be brought to justice. I am more worried about the tensions between Jews in Israel. Some people think that the new religious government will suppress minority rights and become totalitarian. But this is not a risk as Judaism is about balancing love and justice.’

But violence continues to spiral in the West Bank following the deaths of Maia, Rina and now Lucy.

In a brief statement earlier today, the Palestinian health ministry said teenager Mohammed Fayez Balhan was killed ‘by occupation (Israeli) bullets in Jericho’, and ‘two people were injured by live bullets in the lower extremities’ and taken to hospital.

The Israeli army said its forces were operating in the Aqabat Jaber refugee camp near Jericho, without providing further details. A request for comment from AP was not returned.

Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that clashes erupted when Israeli forces entered the camp and surrounded several houses, arresting five individuals during the raid.

Meanwhile, thousands of Israelis led by at least seven Cabinet ministers marched to an evacuated settlement in the West Bank – a defiant signal that Israel’s most right-wing government in history is determined to accelerate settlement building on occupied Palestinian lands despite international opposition.

Israeli police and armed forces are escorting the nationalist group on a march to Eviatar – an unauthorised Israeli settlement outpost in the northern West Bank that was evacuated by the previous government in 2021.

Visits to Eviatar were officially banned by the military since its evacuation, but that prohibition has been loosely enforced in recent months.

Now, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heads the most religious and ultranationalist government in Israel’s history and wants to press on with establishing more Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, much to the disdain of Palestinian officials.

Several members of Netanyahu’s Cabinet, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir – both West Bank settlers – and at least 20 members of Israel’s parliament were expected to take part in the march.

Tensions between Israel and the Palestinians have soared following last week’s police raid on Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The hilltop shrine is the emotional ground zero of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. For Jews, it is known as the Temple Mount, their faith’s holiest site and the place where two temples stood in antiquity.

For Muslims, it is known as the Noble Sanctuary, home of the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.

Dozens of Jewish visitors entered the site on Monday escorted by Israeli police for a second consecutive day. These tours by religious and nationalist Jews have increased in size and frequency in recent years, raising fears by Palestinians that Israel may partition the site. Israel insists it has no intention of changing the longstanding arrangement that permits Jewish visits, but not worship, at the Muslim-administered shrine.

Last week, Palestinians barricaded themselves inside al-Aqsa with stones and firecrackers, demanding the right to pray there overnight, something Israel has in the past only allowed during the last ten days of Ramadan.

Police removed them by force, detaining hundreds and leaving dozens injured.

The violence at the shrine was followed by rocket fire by Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip, southern Lebanon and Syria starting Wednesday, and Israeli airstrikes targeting those areas. Recent days have also seen Palestinian attacks that killed two Israelis and an Italian tourist.

Palestinian attacks have killed at least 19 people in Israel since the start of the year, including one soldier. At least 92 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire so far this year.

Israel captured the West Bank, along with the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, in the 1967 Six-Day war. It has built dozens of settlements in the territory that are now home to more than 500,000 Jewish settlers.

Most of the international community considers Israel’s West Bank settlements illegal and an obstacle to peace with the Palestinians. The Palestinians seek the West Bank, along with Gaza and east Jerusalem for their future independent state.

Breaking Bad star Bob Odenkirk finally addressed casting rumors about him joining Disney+‘s upcoming Wonder Man series.

Wonder Man is currently in the process of filming in Los Angeles as the MCU takes on the world of Hollywood for the first time in-universe.

The likes of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Sir Ben Kingsley have been confirmed to appear in the series, but one name that has been circling the roster is longtime comedian Bob Odenkirk.

Odenkirk is supposedly being eyed to play the agent of Abdul-Mateen‘s Simon Williams (aka Wonder Man); however, nothing has been made official on the actor’s casting as of yet.

Bob Odenkirk on Joining the MCU

Marvel

Speaking to The Independent, Bob Odenkirk broke down his thoughts on the MCU after months of speculation connecting the actor to Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man.

Odenkirk revealed that “[he doesn’t] think I’m built for that world:”

“I always like to keep things grounded, relatable and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world.”

The actor added that he likes to take on roles that “make you feel like that guy could live next door:”

“I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”

Will Bob Odenkirk Appear in Wonder Man?

While Bob Odenkirk feels like a natural fit to play an agent figure in a series like Wonder Man, there has been nothing official out of Marvel that he is part of the project.

Initial reports were that Marvel Studios had its eye on the Better Call Saul star for the series and not that he had actually been cast. This means that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and co. could be looking at Odenkirk or an Odenkirk-type for the role.

Plus, it seems like the actor is not into appearing in the super-powered franchise.

If all he had to say about the MCU was that he likes to play “characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door,” then there would be an argument one could make that that is the sort of non-answer stars give right they appear in the MCU.

But the first part of that quote, “I don’t think I’m built for that world,” paints a picture that he genuinely would not want to make a Marvel Studios appearance.

However, if he does end up showing up in Wonder Man, it would not be the first time someone lied about getting cast in the MCU.

Wonder Man does not currently have an anticipated release window.

Celebrated comic book writing duo, Jeff Lanzing and Collin Kelly, have heaped praise on director Andy Muschietti’s upcoming The Flash, calling the DC outing “incredible.” Speaking with ComicBook.com, Lanzing declared that The Flash will “blow minds” when it lands in theaters if even half of what he has heard happens in the movie comes true.

“I know too much about that movie, I can’t talk about it. I know secrets none of you know! I gotta be super chill when it comes to The Flash. All of this to say: I’m psyched.”

While Lanzing and Kelly have yet to see The Flash the writers, who are best known for the likes of Kang The Conqueror, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty and Batman: One Bad Day – Clayface, do have an inside track, knowing plenty of people who are very much in the know. Asked exactly how much The Flash will “blow minds,” Lanzing stated…

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAYSCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT

“Ten. Ten. I think that if even half the stuff I’ve heard is true, from people who should know… ten. Insane. Complete madness. But I also hear the movie is like, incredible.”

This certainly echoes al the positivity that has flowed towards The Flash of late, with the DC outing being compared to the likes of The Dark Knight as well as Guardians of the Galaxy and now DC Studios co-chief James Gunn calling it “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”

The Flash Will Unleash the DC Multiverse

Warner Bros.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, The Flash will take major inspiration from the DC comic book arc, Flashpoint and sees the multiverse collapse after Barry Allen travels back in time in an attempt to prevent his mother’s murder.

“Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past,” the official synopsis for The Flash reads. “But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”

The Flash finds Zack Snyder’s Justice League star Ezra Miller reprising the role of Barry Allen, aka The Flash, alongside Sasha Calle as Supergirl and Michael Shannon as General Zod, as well as Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, and Antje Traue. The Flash will also feature two versions of The Dark Knight, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice star Ben Affleck due to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, alongside Michael Keaton, who will once again don the cape and cowl after more than three decades.

The Flash is now scheduled to have its world premiere at CinemaCon on April 25, 2023, before being released theatrically on June 16, 2023.

There’s been quite a lot of noise about Redfall, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t simply ravenous for this new game. I’m practically batty about it. Get it? These are all vampire puns. Anyway, Redfall has just announced a sweepstake with two prizes: a Redfall Inspired Xbox Standard Controller and a Redfall themed Xbox Series X. To enter this sweepstake, you’ll need to complete their Interactive Adventure.

Fortunately, I have a guide on how to do just that here.

How to Beat Redfall’s Interactive Adventure (and Win a New Xbox)

This interactive adventure (which you can start here) has three options, each of which falls into a category of playstyle. A is the more brash option, B is the more stealth-based option, and C is the “none of my business, let’s keep moving” option.

After restocking at the Basswood safehouse, you see Bellwether operatives patrolling the neighborhood. They’re not vampires, but they’re not friends either. What’s the plan, Layla?

  1. Gotta step in and show these guys who’s boss. This neighborhood belongs to the survivors.
  2. I see something shiny on the docks just past their patrol, so I’ll sneak around them and check it out.
  3. They haven’t seen me yet. Probably smarter for me to just move along for now.

If you select B, you’ll see a “glimpse of the past”. A gauzy flame will speak to you about their past.

Retail Therapy

There’s a pawnshop just up the road. Spots like this are usually great places to stock up, and this one doesn’t look too beat up. Maybe there’s something inside that the looters didn’t get to.

  1. No time to waste. I’m trying the front door.
  2. I can’t tell if there’s something dangerous inside. I should find another way in and stay quiet.
  3. There’s REALLY no time to waste. I need to keep moving.

If you select B, you’ll get another video: Some Peace and Quiet. This will showcase the Pawn Shop you’ll see in the shop, as well as a Home Alarm that you can hack. Good thing you didn’t force your way through the front door!

You’ll need to pick the lock, and you’ll find an excerpt of a book within. Who doesn’t love a good piece of literature? Unfortunately for Redfall, this piece of literature is nonfiction. But there’s also a safe, which will also require a rewire kit to hack. Do so successfully and you’ll get a big pile of guns.

Mist Opportunities

There really isn’t such a thing as “catching a break” here. If it’s not vampires, cultists, or Bellwether, it’s… this. You’ve encountered death mist before, but the amount here is extreme, even for this deathtrap of an island.

  1. I need to find a way to destroy the source. There must be a way to deal with this where I don’t have to die.
  2. I’m going to make a run for it. I’ve made it through the death mist before and lived to tell the tale.
  3. There’s always another way around, especially when you have a sweet magic elevator to help you rise above.

If you select C, you’ll get the video “Up and Over”. This video highlights some of the abilities Layla has. Which is great, because Death Mists sound pretty deadly.

Out in the Open

The mist is behind you, but you’re still exposed on the open roads. Vulnerable to Watchers and cultist patrols and all of the other darkness plaguing the island. Is there a better option?

  1. No. There’s always going to be something. I’d rather head right down the street and face any danger head-on.
  2. I should definitely avoid open spaces. I see some promising side streets I can check out.
  3. I can make elevators with my mind. Let’s take this party up onto the rooftops and do a little scouting.

If you select B, you’ll get “Down the Alley”.

The alley is quiet, save for the distant shouts of cultists, which is never a good sign. You’re also pretty near a house Reverend Eva asked you to check out. Might be worth lending her a hand.

  1. If there are cultists shouting nearby, they might be holding one of their “recruiting events.” I should take the pep out of that rally.
  2. I own Reverend Eva. She asked me to find some dude’s vampire survival guide recording and get it on the air, so that’s what I’ll do.
  3. I have more important things to worry about right now. I can deal with the rest later.

If you select B, you’ll get the video Slayers and Airwaves.

This video shows the absolute nightmare of booby traps this house is. You’ll have to hack the tripwires to get through. You’ll get the tape recording. Then you’ll be in Dead Catch Records, which is connected to a radio tower.

Within the record shop are two Cultists. And to deal with him, we summon a dude with a burst of purple flame. He seems pretty cool. He also obliterates the Cultists. Unfortunately, there are also quite a few Vampires, but they go down with enough shooting. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the local Vampire population likes that.

We then broadcast the vampire slaying message. Good job!

The Night Manager

You’ve finally tracked down the Night Manager. He’s holed up in the basement of an auto repair shop. There are cultists everywhere outside, and some light surveillance shows hostages in the basement with him, surrounded by barrels of gasoline and more cultists. You could probably clear out those enemies pretty quickly by blowing up those barrels, but the civilians are in the line of fire.

  1. There’s a lot worse out there than the Night Manager, and I need to make sure I’m alive to fight it. Let’s light this place up and I can worry about my conscience later.
  2. What’s the point of fighting every day if not to save every person I can? I’ll take it slow, find another way in, and get rid of this guy without any collateral damage.

If you select B, you’ll get the ending “FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD HALF-WITCH”.

It took time, precious resources, and a bit of blood, but you managed to take out the Night Manager and save every single hostage in that basement. It’s nice to see the vampires haven’t totally bled this town dry of the little good that remains.

If you don’t much care for this ending, there are quite a few more! But to enter the sweepstakes, all you need to do is the following:

On the final screen of the Redfall Interactive Adventure, click the share button, log into your Twitter or Facebook account as prompted and share the results with the hashtag #Sweepstakes (including the automatically generated hashtag #TakeBackRedfall, link and picture of the Prize).

Remember, your Twitter and Facebook account must be public and thus viewable by the Sponsor and its agents. No other method of entry will be accepted. Yes, I read the actual legal document so you don’t have to. Get that Xbox, gamers!

Heat 2 gets the greenlight from Warner Bros. Here’s what we know.

Film noir feels like a genre that never went out of style, even though it did. Even after the last true film noir graced the big screen, the influences of the genre evolved into something new and exciting that comes from the self-aware child of film noir: neo-noir.

While it is often harder to pinpoint what makes a neo-noir film, we often refer back to the classics that defined the look and feel of this subgenre. Films like Blade Runner, Chinatown, Oldboy, L.A. Confidential, and Se7en are classics of the genre, we would have to say that Michael Mann’s Heat left its mark on everyone and everything.

We think about Heat a lot and its influence on great filmmakers like Christopher Nolan. It’s a crime classic from Warner Bros. that never did anything more with the film that seemingly existed for itself.

Three decades and a dozen of rumors later, Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and Mann are meeting to negotiate to develop a sequel to the 1995 classic that Mann has turned into a No. 1 New York Times bestselling novel.

So, what will Heat 2 be about? Who is in talks to portray a young Neil McCauley in the film?

Let’s get into it.

‘Heat’Credit: Warner Bros.

What We Know About Heat 2

Heat 2: A Novel was penned by Mann and Meg Gardiner, and is not a novelization of Mann’s film.

Instead, the novel tells the story of everything that happens before and after the events of Heat. The book jumps between two time periods, with Chris Shiherlis trying to evade the LAPD and Detective Vincent Hanna following the bank robbery gone bad and moving into the tri-border zone and Southeast Asia.

The second storyline takes readers back to Chicago in 1988 where McCauley, Shiherlis, and their crew are scoring big on the West Coast, the U.S.-Mexico border, and in Chicago. The fallout between McCauley’s scores and Hanna’s pursuits sets them up for the narrative in Heat.

The novel became one of the year’s biggest publications after it was released in August 2022.

Mann hinted that he wanted to adapt the novel into a theatrical movie since the novel. It looks like Mann is ready to make this dream a reality as he takes some time away from post-production on his latest film, Ferrari.

While no partners are currently attached to the project, Deadline speculates that there is a high chance that Aron MIlchan’s New Regency, the company that co-financed the first film, will have a chance to co-finance if the project moves forward.

Who Will Star in Heat 2?

The film is still early in development, but that has never stopped the rumor wheel from turning.

While some people want to see Al Pacino return to the world of Heat and included femme fatale Ana de Armas as McCauley’s love interest in the 1988 timeline, only one name is firmly attached to the project: Adam Driver.

It’s unclear what Mann’s plans are with the film. Whether he creates one film with two timelines or two films that tackle each timeline, I am simply excited to see the intimate world that Mann created just over 25 years ago.

Now, Emma has been a part of the AHS family since Season 3’s “Coven” and has appeared in five seasons altogether (most recently in 2019’s 1984).

Of course, this will be Kim’s first appearance on the show. Both Kim and Emma shared a teaser trailer set to a spooky version of “Rock-a-Bye Baby,” announcing that this season will be called Delicate.

Twitter: @KimKardashian

A representative for co-creator Ryan Murphy told Variety that Kim will be in a lead role this season, playing a character made specifically for her.

“Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family,” Ryan said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. “Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”

According to THR, Delicate will be based on the upcoming novel Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine. It’s described as “a gripping thriller that follows a woman convinced a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens — while the men in her life refuse to believe a word she says.” It’s also been described as a “feminist update” to Rosemary’s Baby by New York Times bestselling author Andrea Bartz.

Kim has actually acted before, making appearances in Disaster Movie, CSI: NY, and Drop Dead Diva.

Naturally, Kim and Emma’s names began trending on Twitter following the announcement:

In 2017 Universal debuted their ambitious plans for a series of reboots of their popular 1930s and 1940s horror films. Dubbed the Universal “Dark Universe,” it yielded only two features — 2017’s “The Mummy” with Tom Cruise and 2020’s “The Invisible Man” starring Elisabeth Moss — before being scrapped. And while director Chris McKay’s (“The Tomorrow War”) “Renfield” isn’t directly a Dark Universe project it gives audiences hope that maybe the concept might yield its own reanimation.

“Renfield” is the story of Robert Montagu Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), the codependent familiar of the best known vampire in the world, Count Dracula (Nicolas Cage). Renfield spends his days attending a support group for adults in toxic relationships, in the hopes that he can finally break free of Dracula, once and for all. But when Renfield gets caught in the middle of a war between a prominent New Orleans crime family and beat cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina) it could lead to Dracula finally find a way to achieve world domination.

“Renfield” is at its best when its focused on the eponymous character and bad Drac problem. Cage and Hoult recreate scenes from Bela Lugosi’s 1931 feature with such a striking attention to detail you’d believe they, Hoult especially, had been in the film all along. In the modern world, Hoult never goes for an imitation of original Renfield actor Dwight Frye so eschews the original character’s madness for more sadness and desperation. He’s a victim of abuse with no idea who to turn to, and that’s outside the fact that he’s lived for hundreds of years by providing victims for a literal vampire.

Hoult’s charm and sweetness is tempered by Cage’s showy, maniacal performance as Dracula and it’s frustrating that there aren’t more scenes where the two just play off each other. One moment, where Dracula sees Renfield’s new humble abode, is especially fun as the two go for broke; Hoult cowers in a corner and tries to employ therapeutic techniques Cage’s character berates. In their interactions together the script delves into the parasitic elements of their relationship, as well as deconstructing elements of the original film and Bram Stoker’s novel.

The problem is the Renfield/Dracula relationship is placed alongside Awkwafina’s cop character and her battle to rid New Orleans of the Lobo criminal family, headed up by a deliciously villainous Ella (Shohreh Aghdashloo) and her amateur son, Teddy (Ben Schwartz). It’s easy to see why this plot isn’t enough to sustain its own movie, but why place it in a horror comedy so specific? Really, it seems to only fit because, forsaking the reasoning in Stoker’s book, when Renfield eats bugs (his version of spinach, apparently) he becomes super-strong and has the ability to do everything from chop someone’s arms off with a serving platter to ripping off an entire face with just his bare hands.

In these moments, Hoult and Awkwafina have a decent buddy chemistry, but it’s unremarkable in the grand scheme of things, and every time Cage shows up you just wish the movie eschewed Awkwafina’s wisecracks for more of the horror hijinks. That being said, the fight choreography is remarkable, particularly an extended sequence in an apartment complex. The film uses its R-rating to a healthy advantage, which some shockingly inventive kills, though a lot of the impact is undone by obvious CGI blood that gets more noticeable the more it’s utilized (which is a lot in this movie).

Aghdashaloo and Schwartz are also fun to watch, but would see more suited to a “Kick-Ass” movie than here. In fact, the plotline feels very much like a throwaway moment from that film series more than anything else. It would have been better to integrate Aghdashaloo into the horror mythos in some way, especially since her and Cage’s Dracula have a fairly intense chemistry in the one scene they share together.

But every time things start to drag — the movie is barely 90 minutes so thankfully things move quickly — the comedy gets a shot in the arm from Renfield’s visit to his support group, led by the encouraging Mark (Brandon Scott Jones, “Isn’t It Romantic”). The various characters associated with the group all have their own versions of Dracula, albeit their blood sucking is metaphorical, and their stories delight. Had “Renfield,” as a film, continued what it started with Renfield, the character, being interested in avenging his new-found friends it might have been stronger.

“Renfield” is a great example of how Universal could resurrect its Dark Universe. Take tangential characters or questions audiences have wondered about and find a way to actually explore them. Hoult and Cage do so well in the roles and the script does its best to find a new way into modernizing Stoker’s incomparable novel. These are the children of the night worth following!

Little Simz has announced a North American tour for later this year, a 10-date stretch between September and October. It’s her first tour this side of the Atlantic since 2019. See all of the dates below.

Little Simz previously had a North American tour scheduled for the spring of 2022, supporting Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, but she canceled those dates due to financial concerns. “Being an independent artist, I pay for everything encompassing my live performances out of my own pocket and touring the US for a month would leave me in a huge deficit,” she wrote at the time.

The London artist most recently released No Thank You. The newly announced dates surround Little Simz’s stop at the Format Festival in Bentonville, Arkansas.

One of the most controversial moments in the Bible comes to life in David Helling’s His Only Son. The feature film recounts that fateful moment on Mount Mariah between the father of Israel and what he must do to his only son, Isaac.

I’ll just say I’m very familiar with the story of Abraham and Isaac, and I have a Master’s degree to prove it. Abraham (Nicolas Mouawad) was one of the few men with a direct connection with God. The movie opens with God telling Abraham to sacrifice his miracle of a son, Isaac (Edaan Moskowitz), on an altar on Mount Mariah.

On this three-day journey, Abraham’s heart weighs heavy as the man of faith questions his faith and the divine voice he followed as a young man. In flashback, Abraham recounts the story of long ago, when he was known as Abram and his wife, Sarai (Sara Seyed)…now Sarah. God promised Abram that he would be the father of a great nation, but to this point, Sarai was unable to have a child, and both Sarai and Abram were way beyond child-bearing age. Which begs the question, why would God want Abraham to sacrifice his only son when God promised a fruitful future for his descendants?

For the most part, His Only Son is a faithful retelling of the father of Israel. The first half of the film is almost too straightforward, never wavering from the most common interpretation of Abraham’s life. Helling takes artistic and literary license by opening the story with the sacrificial journey and then fills in the blanks through flashbacks along the way.

Abraham and Sarah’s story is one of faith and patience. As you know, the pair could not have children, and in a moment of weakness, Sarah gave Abraham over to her handmaiden, Hagar, believing that’s how God’s prophecy would be fulfilled. Unfortunately, this decision would come to haunt them later in the film.

“…that fateful moment on Mount Mariah between the father of Israel and what he must do to his only son, Isaac.”

Writer/director Helling gets the narrative right for this hour-forty-five film, and based on the title, you know that the story takes a Christian bent, particularly in its conclusions. The real question is, how well does His Only Son make the connection between the fate of Isaac and the ultimate fate of Jesus?

Not to give away the ending to this many millennia-old tales, but Helling does a good job making that connection, though I personally would have liked greater weight in that connection. Almost like the majesty of Charlton Heston as Moses standing heavenward holding the Ten Commandments…but maybe I’m asking too much.

Overall, His Only Son feels professional and cinematic, a criticism I have always had with faith-based films over the decades. However, the sets and costumes look authentic. I also think it helps that most of the story takes place in the desert…then again, what faith-based film doesn’t have to employ indie film techniques.

That said, Nicolas Mouawad and Sara Seyed give fantastic performances as Abraham and Sara. Abraham was not a beloved hero as he walked through the desert, but he’s a flawed man who’s made almost unforgivable mistakes to get to this point. The confrontation between Abraham and Sara about his “infidelity” is quite chilling, as I imagined it would be from studying the story so many times.

For Christians looking for new Biblical stories this Easter, you won’t go wrong with His Only Son. The film faithfully tells Abraham’s story along with a very Christian ending and top-notch indie storytelling.

One of the most controversial moments in

The Halifax Chamber of Commerce is calling for a hybrid work model requiring municipal workers to be in office three to four days a week to “help stimulate the downtown area” as it recovers from three years of COVID-19.

“Halifax Regional Municipality is one of the biggest employers in the city with roughly 3,600-5,000 employees, and their current flexible work guidelines require staff to be in the office a minimum of two days a week,” the chamber said in its municipal pre-budget submission for the 2023-24 year.

The chamber said having a three-to-four-day flexible hybrid work policy “would be an easy and affordable policy that could further help our downtown recovery.”

Patrick Sullivan, president and CEO of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, estimated this change would lead to $2 to $4 million in increased spending downtown.

“Downtowns are the core of our economy, particularly Halifax’s economy,” he said.

“We’d like (workers) to come downtown three to four days a week, frankly, to spend more money. To spend more money on restaurants, and in shops. Anything to stimulate that downtown economy.”

Sullivan said while COVID-19 changed the way people work, “it’s time for people to get back to the office.”

Mary Ellen Planetta, owner of Elle’s Bistro on Barrington Street, told Global News she’s “very excited” about the recommendation.

“(Since COVID-19,) lunch has really gone downhill, especially in the winter when the tourists aren’t around anymore,” she said.

“Having people back in the office, at least on a semi-regular basis, would definitely help things.”

Mary Ellen Planetta says she supports the chamber’s recommendation to increase in-office days for municipal workers.

Prior to the pandemic, Planetta said Elle’s Bistro was often busy during lunch, for both in-person dining and takeout.

Last winter, she said the business “barely survived” due to a lack of office workers and tourists.

“It was just enough to keep the lights on,” she said.

Since then, business has started “trickling back,” she said, but Planetta estimates lunchtime customers are still down by about 50 per cent from pre-COVID-19 levels.

“We wish the people would come back to the offices,” she said. “We need people in the offices, we need people walking the streets, filling these roles.”

Geoffroy Chevallier of Le French Fixe Patisserie also said his business relies on downtown workers taking their lunch breaks.

He said he would support a hybrid work model for municipal staff that would see office workers returning for three or four days a week.

“That will definitely make a better daily downtown,” he said. “I think that’s a good idea.”

Note: The following contains spoilers for “Succession” Season 4, Episode 3

“Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong and executive producer and director Mark Mylod praised Sarah Snook’s performance in “Connor’s Wedding,” the pivotal third episode of the pivotal third episode of season 4 which revolves around the Roy family’s reaction to the surprise death of Logan (Brian Cox).

When asked by “Succession” companion podcast host Kara Swisher about the moment of the episode that hits them the hardest, both Armstrong and Mylod agreed its when Siobhan (Snook) is put on the phone to say her last words to Logan.

“Up until that point, I’d been emotionally involved but I hadn’t kind of been kicked in the head in the way that I guess I’d anticipated particularly from reading the words,” Mylod said. “Sarah picks up the phone and then Jesse and I were just in pieces, I think, as I recall, watching that first take. It was just brilliant. And Sarah’s just – she has that Meryl Streep thing where you call “cut” and she goes “How was that? You want another one?” She’s immediately out of it again and it feels almost like an insult because she’s just ripped your hear out and then she’s completely back to being Sarah.”

Armstrong agreed, calling the moment “quite cathartic.”

“I don’t not want to see it. But every single time, it’s emotionally – her voice cracks and she realizes and she has the most rapid transition from this very public – its got the quality of a nightmare,” he added. “And for people who’ve had bad news, that thing, the sudden tip of the world, it happens almost more quickly for her than anyone else. And the ways that she reacts with this just wanting to deny it, and then sort of cheerful and then angry, it’s — I find it very affecting.”

In a behind-the-scenes featurette, Snook talked about her experience acting in the episode.

“Being in that frame of mind for two weeks at a time is not healthy,” she said. “I found it was better for me to pull out of it completely so that it could be fresh still because like for me staying in means that it dulls and it’s not good.”

YouTube’s introducing an “enhanced” 1080p HD video quality for Premium subscribers — but it’s only available on iOS for now, with the option coming to web soon. According to YouTube, the new 1080p Premium option is “an enhanced bitrate version of 1080p” that’s supposed to make things look crisper, particularly with videos heavy on detail and motion.

If this all sounds familiar, it’s because YouTube started testing this feature earlier this year and had some worried that the company would nerf the existing 1080p option for nonsubscribers. Fortunately, the standard 1080p option isn’t going anywhere, not even for Premium members.

You’ll still get to use the standard 1080p option on videos (even the ones with 1080p Premium). Not all videos will have the 1080p Premium option, either, as YouTube says you won’t see it on videos uploaded at resolutions higher or lower than 1080p, Shorts, or in livestreams.

YouTube Premium subscribers on iOS now have a 1080p Premium option.
Image: YouTube

Although I don’t have YouTube Premium, I’m curious to know how big of a difference there really is between 1080p and 1080p Premium. As my former colleague Mitchell Clark pointed out at the time of the test, a lot of things go into making videos look good, but an enhanced bitrate should, in theory, make them look better, as it stuffs more information per pixel.

Along with this perk, YouTube revealed a handful of other features coming to Premium, including the ability for users on iOS to watch videos with friends and family members using FaceTime via SharePlay. The platform already offers a similar feature on Android, as it lets subscribers use Google Meet to co-watch videos with other people, whether they pay for Premium or not.

There’s also a handy new Premium feature that lets you pick up where you left off on videos across Android, iOS, and the platform’s desktop site. This seems especially helpful if you’re watching something on your phone and want to blow it up on a bigger screen, like your laptop. But it also just sounds nice to be able to continue watching something on the go if you started watching it on your computer, and vice versa.

YouTube’s also bringing Premium’s queuing feature to phones and tablets.
Image: YouTube

Additionally, YouTube’s expanding its Premium queuing feature to phones and tablets, which lets you create a list of videos that you want to watch next. It’s also rolling out the smart downloads feature it started testing last year. This automatically adds recommended videos to your library while you’re connected to Wi-Fi, allowing you to view them when you’re offline. While this sounds helpful when you’re on a plane or traveling with no service and forget to download videos in advance, it seems like it could be a bit of a storage hog if you don’t disable it.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has revealed that it is expanding the voting body for the 81st Golden Globe Awards, adding another 215 international voters.

The 215 new international voters have been added to the 95 current member voters, leading to a total of 310 voters for the next edition of the awards. The HFPA claims the expansion of the number of voters surpasses its pledge to increase the size and diversity of the voting body. The organization has made numerous reforms in the aftermath of Los Angeles Times exposés about the HFPA’s demographics and conduct.

The HFPA says the voting body now represents a total of 76 countries, including international voters from newly added countries such as Cameroon, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Serbia and Tanzania. According to the organization, 58 percent of the voting body is now diverse, and the new ethnic breakdown is as follows: 25 percent Latinx, 14 percent Asian, 10 percent Black, 9 percent Middle Eastern and 42 percent white. Additionally, the HPFA says that at least 17 percent of the voting body self-identifies as LGBTQ.

The organization revealed that the voting body for the 80th Golden Globes consisted of 200 voters with 52 percent self-identifying as ethnically diverse.

As part of its efforts to be more transparent, the HFPA also revealed that criteria for international voters residing outside the U.S. should include possessing verified entertainment journalistic clippings for international media outlets including print, broadcast, radio, photography and online. The organization adds that these applications were reviewed and qualified by the HFPA Credentials Committee, which is composed of a majority of outside, independent journalism and entertainment industry professionals.

The HFPA adds that international voters will be subject to a Golden Globe Awards Code of Conduct.

“We have exceeded our goal of reaching 300 voters for the upcoming 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards thanks to an extensive global recruitment effort,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the HFPA. “We are excited at the unprecedented achievement in building a truly global voting body where 58 percent self-identify as ethnically diverse.”

“The efforts put forth to identify, engage and actively recruit diverse voters is strong evidence of the commitment by the Golden Globes to follow through on its promises to expand and reshape itself,” said Neil Phillips, the HFPA’s chief diversity officer. “It shows that with the right leadership, effective community partnerships and an unwavering focus, we can achieve remarkable and transformational diversity growth.”

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.

The Hollywood Reporter’s parent company is PME Holdings, LLC, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge Industries, which owns the HFPA.

The internet almost broke a few months ago when it was announced that the hit Broadway production, “Rogers: The Musical,” from the fictional show “Hawkeye” on Disney+, would be coming to real life in Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort. Today, I am excited to share that the much-hyped, one-act theatrical performance will debut at the Hyperion Theater starting June 30, 2023, for a limited engagement!

“Rogers: The Musical” can be described as the breakout sensation from “Hawkeye” on Disney+. It tells the story of the life of Steve Rogers – also known as Captain America.

The Broadway series featured on the Disney+ show has been so popular that during the last D23 Expo in September, the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Fegie, treated Guests to a pop-up of the production. And, you can bet that Marvel fans everywhere gave it rave reviews!

Once “Rogers: The Musical” debuts at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure Park, Steve Rogers AKA Captain America will be joined on stage by Peggy Carter, Nick Fury, and other members of The Avengers. Audience members will be taken on a journey of Steve’s life starting during World War II all the way to becoming Captain America, leading The Avengers, and more!

I’ve also heard that this adventure, romance, and superhero story even features a singing, Nick Fury!

The internet almost

Following a disappointing run in theaters for the DCU, Warner Bros. shared the start of Shazam! Fury of the Gods on the internet for fans to watch for free.

After suffering through the worst opening weekend of any DCEU movie to date, Zachary Levi‘s sequel is already set for its digital release on April 18, only a month after it initially hit the big screen.

And with Shazam 2‘s HBO Max release following its digital debut by only a few weeks, Warner Bros. already started off its home viewing promotional run as the sequel muddles its way through its run at the box office.

Vudu released the first 10 minutes of Warner Bros.’ Shazam! Fury of the Gods to watch for free online, showing the opening scenes to fans while the sequel still plays in theaters.

Asher Angel’s Billy Batson and his foster siblings hear about a new disaster in Philadelphia before heading outside and powering up into the Shazam family.

In his Shazam body, Billy lies on the couch chatting with a pediatrician about his problems, which were highlighted in a number of trailers for Shazam 2.

This comes after the movie’s opening scene highlighting Helen Mirren’s Hespera and Lucy Liu’s Kalypso as they storm into the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece and steal the broken pieces of the Wizard’s staff.

This scene also included Rizwan Manji as one of the museum’s employees, making for a fun DC cameo after playing the janitor in two episodes of DC’s Peacemaker.

Will Shazam 2’s Digital Release Succeed?

Although Shazam 2‘s stars have opened up about the movie’s failures, this only pushes its theatrical run closer to its end with the movie inching towards its full home release.

Seeing this much of the movie being released so soon only places more doubt on Shazam’s future, especially considering the DCU is about to go through a major reboot/rebuild under DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

And with new DC movies like The Flash and Blue Beetle looking to take over the spotlight in the coming weeks, this may be Warner Bros.’ last chance to bring in as much revenue as possible for Shazam’s second solo outing.

Euphoria star Eric Dane is set to play the villain in Bad Boys 4 opposite returning stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

If you’re a Euphoria fan, as many of us are here at JoBlo, you’ll know that one of the show’s biggest scene stealers last season was Eric Dane. A former Grey’s Anatomy star, Dane plays Cal Jacobs, the closeted father of the show’s psychotic heartthrob, Nate (Jacob Elordi). Last season, Cal ran amuck, and Dane’s performance got him the best reviews of his career. Indeed, it seems like the right folks were watching this in Tinseltown as Deadline is reporting that Eric Dane has been cast in the upcoming Bad Boys 4 opposite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Nothing much is known about the plot yet, but Dane is apparently playing the villain.

Again, if you watch Euphoria, you’ll recognize this as pretty spot-on casting. Dane has shown a lot of depth as Cal, with him alternately malevolent and sympathetic throughout the show’s run. He has an imposing physique which should make him an excellent physical opponent for Smith, but he’s also such a great actor that if the role is written well he could make for a truly memorable villain.

Bad Boys 4 seems to be coming together relatively quickly, with many thinking this will be Smith’s big comeback following the infamous Oscar slap. Only time will tell, but it’s worth noting that the last film, Bad Boys For Life, made over $400 million worldwide, which is pretty notable considering that movie theaters worldwide shut down less than two months into its run. Had the film secured more of an international roll-out, the final total would have probably been much higher.

Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are back to direct the fourth film, with much of the supporting cast from the last movie returning, including Paola Núnez, Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig.

Kim Kardashian is joining the Ryan Murphy Repertory Company.

The reality star, entrepreneur, podcaster and pop culture icon just signed on to star in the upcoming 12th season of FX’s American Horror Story, in a role specifically written with her in mind. She joins returning AHS alum and serial Murphy collaborator Emma Roberts in the outing — which, in a first for the show, will be written and showrun by a single writer, Halley Feiffer.

“Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family,” said AHS co-creator Murphy in a statement to THR. “Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”

Murphy and Kardashian are friends, and the prolific TV producer and filmmaker is said to have been impressed with her well-received 2021 hosting gig on Saturday Night Live. They began speaking last summer about crafting a unique role for her scripted TV debut. Specifics about Kardashian and Roberts’ roles are being kept tightly under wraps, though the writing was on the wall about Kardashian’s involvement this morning with a cryptic Instagram post from her account — the eighth-most-followed in the world.

Unlike previous iterations of AHS, however, there is at least something to go on. For the first time in the anthology’s history, it’s leaning into source material. The season is titled Delicate and is based, at least in part, on Danielle Valentine’s upcoming novel Delicate Condition. Out in August from Sourcebooks Landmark, the novel is described as a gripping thriller about a woman who becomes convinced that a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens. A cover blurb from author Andrea Bartz describes Delicate Condition as “the feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby we all needed.”

Though Kardashian has acted before, this will be her most high-profile effort to date. And A-list stunt casting is not exactly outside of the AHS wheelhouse. The series has been a revolving door of marquee names since tapping Jessica Lange back in season one, famously casting Lady Gaga, whose acting credits were then just her own elaborate music videos, in season five — paving the way for her successful film career.

The move also sees Kardashian doubling down on her relationship with Disney, where she and her family launched reality show The Kardashians at Hulu just a year ago. The streamer is also the de facto digital home of fellow-Disney property FX’s programming slate.

Roberts, part of AHS‘ rotating cast since 2013 entry Coven, also appeared in the Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse and 1984 entries. She returns to the franchise after a four-year hiatus. Feiffer takes over showrunning duties having previously written on Dear Edward, Roar, Kidding and Murphy series Impeachment: American Crime Story.

The new season of AHS, executive produced by Murphy, co-creator Brad Falchuk, Feiffer, Alexis Martin Woodall and Scott Robertson, is scheduled to begin shooting in New York City later in April. A summer premiere is anticipated, with Murphy and FX expected to announce an exact date in June.

American Horror Story is one among the longest running and successful properties in Ryan Murphy Productions’ substantial TV portfolio, receiving over 100 Emmy nominations and nabbing 13 wins to date.

For the second week in a row, The Night Agent tops the Netflix top 10s around the world, picking up a similar haul of points to last week (6,002 this week vs. 6,143 last). Elsewhere, there are a lot of other familiar titles rounding out the top 10, with Beef debuting in eighth spot this week following its debut last Thursday. We’ll likely see that rise into the top 5 should its performance continue.

2023 Emmy Predictions:
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

“The Last of Us” (HBO)
HBO

Weekly Commentary: This year, there seems to be an “Emmy chicken” game with actors’ campaigns, notably the men of HBO’s “Succession.”

If you watched the episode “Connor’s Wedding,” you saw some of the most jaw-dropping moments of the show’s history. Without revealing spoilers (the breakdown of what could happen is here), we likely won’t know who will submit in any given category until the submission deadline on May 9. However, remember that Brian Cox has three options for him: lead, supporting and guest. Kieran Culkin’s decision will rest upon Cox’s choice, while Strong will likely remain in this race.

And then there’s Pedro Pascal, with three wildly different performances available for the Television Academy to consider this year. He has his guest comedy actor bid for hosting NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and two spectacular turns in the science fiction genre — “The Mandalorian” from Disney+ and “The Last of Us” from HBO.

With “Mandalorian” it’s currently airing week-to-week on the “Mouse House’s” streaming platform. Still, it isn’t garnering the enthusiastic responses the two previous seasons did, so that is a long shot. His best chances lie in his creation of Joel, a hardened survivor of a global pandemic that finds a vulnerability in 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in the video game adaptation. Is it “winnable?” It depends on how well the show performs with the Television Academy (i.e., does it pick up writing and directing noms, along with a slew of techs?)

Pascal and the rest of the field are facing Saul Goodman, portrayed by Bob Odenkirk, for the final season of “Better Call Saul” that aired last summer. While fair to point out the show’s 46 series noms, none of which have resulted in a win, is the clear hurdle for the veteran actor to overcome. Still, like former final season winners across the Emmy spectrum, such as Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”), you can never be sure how sentimental the Emmys will get for a respected actor.

Emmy Nominations voting runs from June 15-26. The Primetime Emmy nominations will be announced on July 12. Check back every Thursday for the latest updates. All information is preliminary and is subject to change.

And the Predicted Nominees Are:

  1. Brian Cox — “Succession” (HBO) **
  2. Paddy Considine — “House of the Dragon” (HBO)
  3. Dominic West — “The Crown” (Netflix)
  4. Harrison Ford — “1923” (Paramount+)

Other Top-Tier Possibilities

  1. Kevin Costner — “Yellowstone” (Paramount Network)
  2. Matthew Rhys — “Perry Mason” (HBO)
  3. Arnold Schwarzenegger — “Fubar” (Netflix)
  4. Antony Starr — “The Boys” (Prime Video)
  5. Bryan Cranston — “Your Honor” (Showtime)
  6. Forest Whitaker — “Godfather of Harlem” (MGM+)
  7. Jeremy Renner — “Mayor of Kingstown” (Paramount+)
  8. Joshua Jackson — “Fatal Attraction” (Paramount+)

Actor and singer Julián Figueroa, the son of the late Mexican music icon Joan Sebastian and actress Maribel Guardia, died on Sunday (April 9) in Mexico City. He was 28.

“It saddens me to announce the passing of my beloved son Julián Figueroa, who has unfortunately preceded us in parting from this level,” Guardia posted on her Instagram account.

Guardia said Figueroa was found unconscious in his room while she was at the theater. “They called 911 and when the ambulance and police arrived, they found him already lifeless, with no traces of violence. The medical report indicates that he died of an acute myocardial infarction and ventricular fibrillation,” she said.

Guardia added that the funeral services will be held privately, and asked that the family’s privacy be respected at this painful moment.

Just a day before, Figueroa had published a heartfelt tribute to his father, who would have turned 72 on Saturday.

“How slowly 8 years have gone by, since the day you left time tastes more bitter. And people proclaim that time is a fix for everything, but this is a vile lie, it hurts more every day, and this is without fear of hurting sensibilities,” the artist wrote on his social networks, next to a photo of himself as a child, with his father. “The fans cry LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE’S POET, but I don’t give a damn, I ONLY LOVE MY DAD.”

Figueroa was known for songs such as “Pídeme,” “Volaré,” “Cómo Olvidar” and “Necesito de Ti,” among others. According to El Universal newspaper, he had finished recording his first solo album and was preparing its release. His last stint as an actor was in the Televisa-Univision telenovela Mi Camino Es Amarte.

He is the third of Sebastian’s eight children to pass away. The first was Trigo Figueroa, who was murdered in 2006 by fans of his father who insisted on entering the singer’s dressing room; and the second was Juan Sebastián, also murdered in 2010 outside a bar where he apparently had an argument with local security staff.

In addition to his mother, Julián Figueroa is survived by his wife, Ime Garza; his 6-year-old son, José Julián; and his siblings José Manuel, Juliana, Zarelea, Marcelina and Joana.

Maya S. Cade is the creator and curator of Black Film Archive and a scholar in-residence at the Library of Congress. In this personal reflection, she shares her journey to creating a new space for Black cinema and her connection to the artists and histories before her.

As a child, my maternal grandmother took great pleasure in having me guess what my birthday present would be. I would offer every childhood fantasy I could conjure.

Ruby Dee and Sidney Poitier in the stage production of “A Raisin in the Sun.” The New York Public Library.

“Barbies?” “Not quite…” she would respond.

“$100?” “I have something better for you.”

“A new book?” “No, something better.”

This game would go on until I wore myself out. Eventually, the gift would be revealed: a handwritten card where she scribed a blessing for my new year and intricately wrapped dollar bill crafts that would total my new age. She would hand the gift to me with a vocal reminder that there is no greater gift than doing things with love. She expressed that love from family and community will be there when the novelty of a new toy wears off.

To love and be loved as a Black person in America has always been intrinsically linked to community and the promise that love can help see us through as we attempt to survive – racism and all of its vicious cousins and offspring. In every Black history – shared or personal – there is a thread of love that allows us to conjure visions of survival and transformation. In telling me to trust love, my grandma passed on deep-seated knowledge: leading with love will unlock unlimited possibilities for my life as it had unlocked in the generations before me.

Film, and an utter fascination with all media, has been a deep love in my life for as long as I can remember. My first filmic obsession was “The Wiz” (1978), the exuberant reimagination of “The Wizard of Oz” with an all-Black cast based on the Broadway show of the same name. In the maximalist swirls of color, Motown-infused music, and Dorothy’s journey home were the joys of seeing a cinematic world without translation. Loving “The Wiz” gave me the confidence to chart a course through Black cinema, guided by the stars. Sidney Poitier, the first star I steered to, showed me the rich legacy of Black actors making a way against all odds. In my world, Poitier was revered as a member of the Black family as a larger-than-life figure we prayed for before I knew the depth of his film stardom.

In the early days of the pandemic, I rewatched “The Wiz” – and other beloved classics like “For Love of Ivy” (1968) starring Poitier – on a daily loop, hoping to find new visions of home as the world shifted beneath our feet and as Diana Ross belted:

♪ When I think of home

I think of a place

Where there’s love overflowing. ♪

Amid my endless marathon of “The Wiz,” an omnipresent question emerged as Black people digitally and physically protested in the wake of George Floyd’s June 2020 death: How does film represent the weight of Black history, present and future? The weighty question and public pressure prompted streaming services to launch Black Lives Matter collections with the platforms’ existing Black films.

I charted a new course in June 2020 – as public discourse increasingly insinuated Black cinema’s past only offered trauma. I began building a digital project that directly addressed Black moviegoers’ concerns and desires to better understand Black film’s past. Instead of shaming people for what they did not know or have access to, I imagined a way to present and reconstruct an underseen film history. Starting as a viral Twitter thread, my work transformed into Black Film Archive, a register of Black cinema from 1898 to 1989, currently streaming with contextual language. Aiming to fill a void and build a foundation for Black cinema knowledge, Black Film Archive reframes and reignites the audience’s relationship to the past.

As J’Nai Bridges, noted opera singer, said during “American Masters: In the Making” as she considered the future of her craft in a post-George Floyd world, “When I think of giving up . . I think of what [the shoulders I stand on have] gone through and what roads they’ve paved and what doors they’ve opened so I can be here today doing what I love.”

Toni Morrison reminds us with her work that the past is always in process. When we analyze it, an infinite amount of information can be yielded. The fight for ‘fair’ Black visibility on screen is as old as the motion picture industry itself. For centuries, Black moviegoers and Black artists alike have been trying to calculate the perfect formula to display Black humanity on screen. The answer is not as simple as a singular formula of 2+2 equals ‘positive, perfect representation,’ but with knowledge of the past as a guide, we allow multi-layered performances of identity to shine.

In working on Black Film Archive for nearly three years, I’ve had to parse through the limited notions of Black cinema that are often placed upon the form from curators, distributors and white decision-makers. The rotating cycle of suppression and waves of limited amplification of Black cinema is tied to a history of wavering white investment in the form across time. How do I persevere on an uphill battle of this uncertain terrain and remain optimistic about Black cinema’s future?

My answer is in the same vein. I feel a deep kinship with the artists and histories displayed in Black Film Archive. Because they are an extension of my family, the love of sharing their stories will be there for me long after the novelty wears off for others.

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia — Slovenia’s emergency mountain teams on Monday rescued four French citizens who were stuck in bad weather in the Alps, the rescue service said.

The operation on the Skuta mountain came a day after dozens of emergency workers used helicopters to rescue another five people swept away by an avalanche in an Alpine region further north. They were part of a group of seven people attending a mountaineering course when the avalanche hit. Three people were seriously injured.

The French citizens brought down from the Skuta mountain on Monday were unharmed, said Katarina Janjic from the Mountain Rescue Association of Slovenia.

The group had stayed overnight in a mountain shelter because they lacked proper equipment to descend, she told the official STA news agency.

Slovenia’s rescue service has urged mountaineers to avoid climbing in bad weather. They said spring conditions mean avalanches could be unleashed easily because of changeable temperatures and unstable snow.

The rescue operation on Sunday involved 60 people who worked for seven hours in risky conditions, rescue officers said.

“One can’t help but wonder whether it would not have been better to stay home for Easter,” said rescue officer Klemen Belhar.
