From three new live-action Star Wars movies from James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy to Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey in a film set after The Rise of Skywalker to Ahsoka’s official trailer, Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase at Star Wars Celebration 2023 was filled with a ton of exciting reveals from that galaxy far, far away.

The weekend isn’t over yet though, so IGN has gathered every news announcement in one place so you can keep track of it all, and we’ll continue to update this page with every fresh reveal from throughout the weekend.

Let us know your favorite announcement and which project you are most looking forward to in the comments below!

Lucasfilm Announces Three Live-Action Star Wars Movies From Directors Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy

Star Wars fans have been waiting since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker for the franchise to return to the big screen, and Star Wars Celebration has finally confirmed that return will happen with three films directed by James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.

James Mangold, the director of Logan and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will create a film that “will go back to the dawn of the Jedi”.

Dave Filoni’s film will explore a more familiar era for Disney+ subscribers and “focus on the New Republic” Among many other things, Filoni was the creator of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, an executive producer, episodic director, and writer on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and is the creator and executive producer on Ahsoka.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning director behind Ms. Marvel, Saving Face, and more will lead a film “set after the events of Rise of Skywalker” that will “feature Daisy Ridley back as Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.”

Daisy Ridley Returning to Star Wars in Movie Set After Rise of Skywalker

As mentioned in the blurb above, Daisy Ridley will officially be returning to Star Wars as Rey in a new movie set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the movie will see Rey will attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order as a Jedi Master.

“I’ve always been attracted to the hero’s journey and the fact that the world needs many more heroes,” said Sharmeen. And the excitement was almost too much for Ridley.

“My heart is pounding,” she said as she walked on stage to a screaming crowd at Star Wars Celebration. “I’m very thrilled to be continuing this journey.”

Kathleen Kennedy Says New Star Wars Films Are ‘Pretty Far Along’ in Development

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said the three newly announced Star Wars films are “pretty far along” in development.

Speaking to IGN at Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy made clear that the new films from Dave Filoni, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and James Mangold aren’t just ideas being thrown around at Lucasfilm but have been in development for a considerable amount of time.

“We’re pretty far along,” Kennedy said. “These are things, as you can imagine, certainly looking at what Dave’s been doing with Ahsoka, that’ll be at least six, seven years building to what it is we’re going to be doing in a movie.

Star Wars Finally Looks Back to a Beloved Era as the Old Republic Returns to Canon

Star Wars: The Old Republic is one of the most beloved eras in the extended universe, but it has been left largely untouched by Disney’s movies and television shows. That may be about to change, though, if a timeline shown during Star Wars Celebration is anything to go by.

Shortly before announcing several new Star Wars movies, LucasFilm studio head Kathleen Kennedy took the stage to share her vision for what Star Wars will look like in theaters.

That means “broadening the timeline,” Kennedy says, as an image appeared highlighting seven major eras, which includes The Old Republic.

Dave Filoni on Whether His Star Wars Movie Is Mandalorian Finale: ‘The Next Logical Step’

LucasFilm announced a new film by Dave Filoni, which many expect to be a grand finale for The Mandalorian. But will it? The answer is complicated.

Speaking with IGN in a new interview, Filoni said he thinks of the period where the movie is set as less of a “Mandalorian era” and more of a “New Republic period.”

“I don’t know if I’d call it [a finale]. I think of the time period now as the New Republic time period, and it’s something that has existed long before we were ever making the Mandalorian.

“The idea that after Return of the Jedi there was a New Republic, and that the heroes still had to defend that Republic from the remnant Empire is a very old idea that we brought into the first season of the Mandalorian. Because it’s what was always there.”

Ahsoka Gets Release Window and Trailer, Season 2 Teased

Star Wars: Ahsoka will officially be released on Disney+ in August 2023, and Star Wars Celebration released the official trailer for the much-anticipated series. Furthermore, a second season was hinted at.

“If this does well, maybe we’ll get a second season,” said star Rosario Dawson. “It’s up to y’all. I’m ready if you are.”

The trailer was as action-packed as you’d expect and also saw the return of Star Wars: Rebels characters including Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), and Chopper. Mon Mothma was also shown.

While we didn’t get to see him in full, we did get our first glimpse of live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn. “I started hearing whispers about Thrawn’s return,” Ahsoka said. “as heir to the Empire.”

Rosario Dawson Teases the Search for Thrawn in Ahsoka

Speaking of the devil, one of the major plotlines of the live-action Ahsoka series will be the titular character’s hunt for Thrawn and star Rosario Dawson has teased what that journey might be.

During a dedicated Ahsoka panel, Dawson talked about the search and what’s driving Ahsoka so strongly in it. “Though she is not a Jedi, she has so much of that at heart for her. She’s driven by trying to do good,” Dawson said during the panel. “She sees a threat other people aren’t seeing.”

Thrawn is one of the most beloved Star Wars characters in the extended universe, and though he appeared in Rebels, this will arguably be his first appearance in a mainstream Star Wars show, and definitely his first in live-action.

Grand Admiral Thrawn Will Be Played by Rebels’ Lars Mikkelsen

Lucasfilm has finally revealed that Lars Mikkelsen will be playing the live-action version of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars: Ahsoka, the same actor who voiced the villain in Star Wars Rebels.

The arrival of Thrawn in live-action has been something fans have been waiting a very long time to see, and Star Wars Celebration 2023 finally gave them the answer as to who will be bringing the villain to life.

As far as we know so far, this is the only Rebels actor to make the jump to live-action, with other characters Hera Syndulla now being played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Sabine Wren being played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Playing Live-Action Version of Beloved Star Wars Rebels Character in Ahsoka

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has finally revealed her role in Ahsoka, confirming she will play the live-action version of beloved Rebels character Hera Syndulla.

Winstead was also briefly shown in her full costume as Twi’lek, which can be viewed in the tweet below. We’ve known since May last year that Winstead would be joining the cast, though didn’t know who she’d be playing until now.

It does make sense, however, as fellow Rebels character Ezra Bridger was confirmed to be appearing in the show, played by Eman Esfandi.

Ahsoka Cast Explains How They Brought Beloved Rebels Characters to Live-Action

When Ahsoka arrives on Disney+ in August 2023, it will come complete with many character fans of the galaxy far, far away loved from Star Wars Rebels, including Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and, obviously, Ahsoka Tano.

These characters originated in animation with different actresses and are now being brought to life in live-action by Mary Elizabeth-Winstead, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Rosario Dawson, respectively.

IGN had the chance to speak to all three of the actresses at Star Wars Celebration 2023, and they shared with us how they are bringing their characters to life in live-action.

Ahsoka Star Rosario Dawson Trained 14 Hours a Week to Recreate Animated Show Stunts

Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson trained for 14 hours a week to recreate the acrobatic combat style and stunts performed by the titular character in The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series.

Speaking to IGN at Star Wars Celebration, Dawson explained the challenges of taking a character that had once only existed in animated shows and bringing them to the live-action universe.

“I think there’s definitely difficulties there, even just for the entire stunt team watching the animation, because we’d be working off of just the most amazing feats that someone could draw or imagine,” she told IGN. “And then it was like, how do we actualize that in real life? And so the team of it was just really remarkable.”

Mon Mothma Actress Reacts to Ahsoka Trailer Appearance

Mon Mothma actress Genevieve O’Reilly sat down with IGN at Star Wars Celebration 2023 to discuss not only her exciting appearance in the Ahsoka trailer, but also how her character has grown through hardships in Andor’s first season.

Starting off with Ahsoka, we catch a glimpse of Mon Mothma in a hologram as Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka talks about the whispers of the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Mon Mothma has been a part of Star Wars since Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and now she’ll get a chance to stand in the spotlight once more and O’Reilly couldn’t be happier.

Andor Season 2 Is Aiming for an August 2024 Premiere Date

While we didn’t get an exact date as to when Andor Season 2 will arrive on Disney+, series creator Tony Gilroy has confirmed the team is planning on having it ready for an August 2024 premiere date.

“We started shooting in November,” Gilroy said. “We’re about halfway through. We’re going to shoot through August. We’re on the exact schedule. Finish in August, spend another year on post. I suppose we’ll come out the following August.”

We were also given a few clips from Season 2, and we hear Mon Mothma say, “If we do not stand together, we will be crushed.” It also showed Cassian, Dedra, Syril, and Bix.

The Acolyte Is ‘Frozen Meets Kill Bill,’ First Details and 2024 Release Window Revealed

Star Wars: The Acolyte, the upcoming Disney+ series set during the end of the High Republic era, will make its way to Disney+ in 2024. While we weren’t given an exact date, the cast and crew behind the series stopped by Star Wars Celebration to share a few details as to what fans can expect.

Star Wars: Acolyte’s series creator Leslye Headland shared that she had always wanted to “delve into the Star Wars universe and tell the story of this entire world that I loved so much from the perspective of the bad guys.”

“What I pitched to Kathleen Kennedy was Frozen meets Kill Bill. Shockingly, she didn’t kick me out of the building,” Headland said. “It’s High Republic near the beginning of the prequels and an exciting part of the timeline. This is when the bad guys are outnumbered. They are the underdogs. I’m really excited for you guys to see things you haven’t seen in live action yet.”

The Acolyte’s Showunner Is Here to Challenge the Star Wars Universe

The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland is here to take on the Star Wars universe, and it’s not just because her show is told from the perspective of the Sith.

Speaking to IGN at Star Wars Celebration, Headland explained that she started brainstorming The Acolyte by challenging the status quo.

“You just go, ‘Well, where’s the part that nobody’s going, what about that?’ And so to me, the institution of the Jedi was that,” Headland said. “So they trained children and that seems super complicated of a thing. It’s not criticism. It’s just like, ‘well, that seemed strange.'”

She even questioned decisions made by Lucasfilm previously, and ones regualrly brought up by fans, such as how Palpatine became supreme chancellor without Yoda knowing.

The Acolyte Showrunner Gets Emotional at Star Wars Celebration: ‘Star Wars Saved My Life’

If any Star Wars fans were in doubt that the mind behind The Acolyte, the first live action show set during The High Republic era, was a big fan too, they might want to think again.

Speaking on the Star Wars Celebration main stage, The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland got emotional when talking about her appreciation of Star Wars, saying the franchise saved her life.

“I just have to say it is such an honour to be here,” she said. “Star Wars saved my life.” Headland took a moment before continuing, equally to let the crowd stop cheering and to hold back tears.

Star Wars The Acolyte Showrunner Breaks Down Which Part Is Frozen, Which Is Kill Bill

Following on from her earlier comments that The Acolyte was pitched as part Froze, part Kill Bill, The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland broke down what the heck that means.

Headland told IGN: “So much of it was about the sister relationship, so much of it was about the villain actually being a powerful, misunderstood woman. There was just so much of it that I couldn’t believe what I was watching. I couldn’t believe that it was a cartoon with music. It was hitting me on such a deep level and yet servicing the genre so well.”

As for Kill Bill: “I think it’s a really good reference for the modern day martial arts film,” Headland explained. “Obviously, Tarantino took inspiration from a lot of the movies that our action team and a lot of our design team pulled from — which is stuff from the Shaw brothers to Akira Kurosawa in his samurai films, but also films like Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”

Skeleton Crew Gets First Reveal at Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming Disney+ series that is set to arrive in 2023. Star Wars Celebration has yet to reveal an exact date, but it did share the first trailer.

The trailer for Skeleton Crew, which stars Jude Law and is focused on a younger cast of characters, honed in very much on the show’s Goonies inspirations. This was shown with kids in class, going through a residential area, running through a forest, and much more.

Lucasfilm also confirmed the directors for the series, and they include on Jon Watts, David Lowery, The Daniels, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Lee Isaac Chung.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Is Officially Getting a Second Season

Dave Filoni has confirmed that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will officially be returning for a second season.

Filoni shared the news at the end of a panel celebrating the 15th anniversary of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and he revealed he just loved working on the first season so much that he wanted it to continue.

“Tales of the Jedi was so fun the first time, I decided to do some more,” Filoni said simply.

Bad Batch Gets Third and Final Season Announcement

It’s official – The Bad Batch will return for Season 3, but it will be its last. The Mandalorian’s Fennec Shand will also star in the show alongside the regular cast of characters.

During a panel at Star Wars Celebration in London, the popular Star Wars animated show was officially renewed for a third season.

“I can say that the story’s not over,” said the show’s writer, Jennifer Corbett. “The Bad Batch will be back for a third and final season.”

Star Wars Visions Volume 2 Gets First Look and New Info at Star Wars Celebration

Disney and Lucasfilm have given fans a first look at Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 at Star Wars Celebration in London.

A trailer for the new season, which gives the Star Wars license to creators from all over the world to produce their own unique stories, shows a ton of different art styles coming to the Visions world. These include CGI, hand drawn, and even what looks to be claymation.

Volume 2 is also set to bring more of a global perspective to Visions when it premieres on Disney+ on May 4, stepping away from the Japanese centric first volume.

The Lando Calrissian Series Is Definitely Still Happening

The Star Wars Lando Calrissian series is definitely still in the works at Disney, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed.

Speaking to IGN at Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy revealed that the long dormant show (probably) starring Donald Glover is still happening, though didn’t share much as to when we might see more.

“I can just tell you it’s still happening, and he’s very excited about it,” she said, all but confirming that Glover is definitely on board.”

Taika Waititi ‘Is Still Working Away’ on His Star Wars Film

Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film hasn’t been scrapped by Disney despite it’s absence Star Wars Celebration 2023.

Speaking to Variety at the event, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said “Taika is still working away” on the film, and it’s just taking a while because he doesn’t want anyone else helping with the script.

“He’s writing the script himself,” Kennedy said. “He doesn’t really want to bring others into that process and I don’t blame him. He has a very, very unique voice.”

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Gets Final Gameplay Trailer Ahead of Launch Later This Month

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor has received its final trailer ahead of its launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC later this month.

Showing of a ton of gameplay footage alongside some new story cutscenes, set against an ominous yet hopeful monologue, the trailer was released during Star Wars Celebration 2023.

Cal Kestis is the main focus, and we see gameplay of him in a bunch of different fights. These include against Stormtroopers, Destroyer Droids from the prequel trilogy, and even a Rancor. We also see one gnarly scene where Cal throws a Scout trooper from a speeder straight into a TIE fighter.

Coruscant Is a Playable Planet in Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, but It May Not Be Open World

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen has revealed Coruscant to be one of the planets featured in the sequel, though it may not be a fully explorable open world area.

Sharing the news at Star Wars Celebration, not long before he released the final gameplay trailer for Jedi: Survivor, Asmussen confirmed Coruscant was in the game.

“We’re taking our Metroidvania approach a step further and, just to talk about another planet, we’re going to have Coruscant as well,” he said. “I think there’s been a lot of speculation on that, and [I’m] just confirming it here.”

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau Discuss Their Star Wars Film, Ahsoka, and More

The Star Wars canvas keeps getting bigger for Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the dynamic duo behind the success of The Mandalorian.

During Star Wars Celebration, Kathleen Kennedy took to the stage to formally announce Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie, which will be set during The New Republic. For Filoni and Favreau, it’s the “next logical step” and a case of “where the rubber hits the road,” though they’re hesitant to call it a finale for The Mandalorian.

In a new interview with IGN, which you can watch below, Filoni and Favreau talk about the new project; their evolving understanding of how to approach the Star Wars universe, and Filoni’s giant whiteboard featuring the Star Wars timeline.

The Mandalorian: Season 3 Episode 7 Clip Teases the Return of a Beloved Star Wars Character

While the cat is now out of the bag, guests in attendance at Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase were treated to a clip from next week’s seventh episode of The Mandalorian’s third season, and it teased the return of a beloved Star Wars character.

Spoilers ahead for Season 3, Episode 7 of The Mandalorian!

The clip begins with Elia Kane speaking to Moff Gideon on hologram, and she tells the character played by Giancarlo Esposito that “Karga was aided by Mandalorians.” Gideon then says he will deal with them before speaking to Captain Pallaeon about the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

“Grand Admiral Thrawn is missing,” Moff Gideon said. “With respect, our one hope for success relies upon the secrecy of his return,” Pallaeon replied.

“I never hear a word of Thrawn. You’ve spoken of his imminent return. Perhaps it’s time that we look to new leadership.”

Mandalorian Producer Confirms Din Djarin is No Longer the Only Main Character

The Mandalorian began as a show about Din Djarin and Grogu, though fans have begun asking if that’s still the case as Season 3 explores more of the Mandalorians as a people instead of just a person.

Executive producer Rick Famuyiwa has addressed those questions in an interview with IGN, and yes, the fans are right to question it. Turns out, the titular Mandalorian is no longer considered to be just Din.

“I think that’s been interesting as we’ve been on the journey of the show, and now that we’re at this point, is that, what does that title mean?,” Famuyiwa told IGN.

Mandalorian Showrunners on Ahmed Best’s Celebrated Return to Star Wars: ‘It Was a Big Decision’

The Mandalorian showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni stopped by Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase to discuss the “big decision” to cast Ahmed Best as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq in The Mandalorian and have him be the one to save Grogu from the events of Order 66.

“Ahmed walked out on stage [at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago in 2019] and just the outpouring of appreciation,” said Favreau. “The opportunity for this role came up, and we knew we had to have someone – who was gonna be the one who rescues Baby Grogu? We were talking about that process of, who would it be and who should it be?”

“It was a big decision, but I don’t think there is anybody better than Ahmed,” said Filoni. “The appreciation when he appeared on screen was such a wonderful moment, also the fact that we kept it all a secret until it came out. It was tremendous outpouring of appreciation, that was as much fun as the episode itself.”

Return of the Jedi Influenced The Mandalorian

Return of the Jedi wasn’t just the end of a trilogy, it was the beginning of a new way of filmmaking.

During a panel at Star Wars Celebration in London, Star Wars creatives discussed the influence of this 40-year-old film on the most recent Star Wars projects.

“For all of our new films now, I always try to add that new component of something new,” said Lucasfilm executive creative director, Doug Chiang. “Star Wars design is very defined in terms of that box that George [Lucas] created but within that box, there’s a lot of freedom, and I love to push the envelope in terms of what that box is.”

Ewan McGregor ‘Really Wants’ Obi-Wan Season 2, But Lucasfilm Doesn’t Just Yet

Star Wars prequel trilogy star Ewan McGregor is apparently eager to make another season of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series.

Speaking to Variety at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy explained how the Obi-Wan actor (and the fans) might want another season, but it’s not something the studio is considering just yet.

“That is not an active development,” Kennedy said of Season 2. “But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen on those Big Lightsaber Duels

Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have opened up about their big lightsaber duels from the show’s first season.

During a panel at Star Wars Celebration in London, the two Star Wars prequel stars discussed what it meant to return to the franchise – and to take each other on once more.

“It’s a great bit of Star Wars and a really important scene,” said Christensen. “Not just to the tragedy of the character of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader but the tragedy of the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan.”

Star Wars Rogue Squadron Could Still Happen, Says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film could still happen despite its production fizzling away at Disney.

Speaking to IGN at Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy gave fans disappointed by the film’s supposed cancellation a little hope.

“Rogue Squadron, that definitely is something that we still talk about,” she said, though alluded that it may not return in the same way. “Whether it’s a movie, or whether it ends up being in the series space, that’s definitely something.”

Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Trilogy Is ‘Not Actively’ in Development

The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy is not being actively developed, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has revealed.

Speaking to Variety at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Kennedy gave an update on some of the previously announced Star Wars films that have seemingly taken a back seat to the three newly announced movies.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Gets New Trailer

Indiana Jones is back in a new glimpse at Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. the new trailer gives us a closer look at what’s going on in the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel, with hints of an artifact that can change the course of history.

Harrison Ford returns as famed archaeologist Indiana Jones in a new adventure alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Helena Shaw, Indy’s goddaughter and partner in crime during his upcoming adventure.

There’s also a brief glimpse of Mads Mikkelsen’s villainous Jurgen Voller who seems to be aiming to bring about the return of Hitler and the Nazis. “Hitler made mistakes,” he says. “And with this, I will correct them all.”

Star Wars Celebration 2025 Will Take Place in Japan

Even at the end of it all, we need something to look forward to right? Disney couldn’t leave this year’s Celebration without announcing that the 2025 event will take place in Japan.

Announced during the closing ceremonies of the London Celebration, the next event (as Lucasfilm is skipping 2024) will take place from April 18 to April 20, 2025.

No specific city for the Japanese Star Wars Celebration was announced, but it will most likely take place in Tokyo.

Glamour cover girl Katie Holmes played with structure on a recent outing in New York City, pairing the classic shirtdress with a skirt that’s more fabric than garment.

Stepping out at the 92nd Street Y in support of her new film Rare Objects, the actor-director opted for a clean and crisp white button-down shirtdress that’s pinstriped on top, pleated on bottom…or possibly it’s a button-down and a not-attached white skirt? Jury’s still out.

On its own, that outfit would have been cute and sporty, if a little 2010s. But this is Katie Holmes we’re talking about. She’s gotta do something simple yet fashion-forward, untrendy, and unusual. So she wore a wraparound maxi skirt made of heavy material that’s pinned loosely in the front, leaving an intentional hole that gives us a peek at her skirt and thigh. And if the white garment is two pieces, that means she’s wearing two skirts. Like that time she carried two purses. Katie!!!

Katie Holmes leaves 92nd Street Y in New York City on April 11, 2023.James Devaney

Holmes polished off the look with white square-toe flats and a matching white handbag, keeping her jewelry, makeup, and hairstyling super simple. She’s not in Movie Star Mode; she’s in Arty Director Mode. Think off-duty Sofia Coppola meets Chloé Zhao.

Rare Objects, Holmes’s third feature as a director, is something of a family project. Per Hello!, her 16-year-old daughter with Tom Cruise, Suri, sings for the film’s soundtrack, and the credits specify that the whole movie is dedicated to her. Now, what the heck do you get your mom for Mother’s Day when she just made you a whole movie?

Holmes, our cover star, opened up about the decision to include her daughter in her work, revealing, “I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her…So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”

Space is a bad place for people to stay alive in; it’s one of the main reasons we don’t live there. (Also, the commute’s an absolute pain in the ass.) And while it’s a fun enough destination to visit in our imaginations, if we’re being honest, our imaginations are pretty much shot at this point. And so we beseech Hollywood: Could you do us a solid and let us maybe imagine some famous people living there, instead?

Luckily, Fox has taken our incredibly lazy brains’ best interests to heart, announcing today Stars On Mars, a new reality competition series in which people at a “Fox reality show” level of famous get together to do fake space missions. (Presumably minus the bit where they float off, untethered, into the inky blackness of the void, screaming for what will, for them, feel like an eternity before the air runs out.) And also, William Shatner is hosting it, because he’s the first person who loads in when our brains try to think of a “Space guy”!

The series will see several famouses living together in a “space station,” competing in various space simulator-style challenges; from the description, it sounds like the show will be using a weekly elimination format, so, hey: Maybe we will get some of that Gravity-style/forcibly jettisoned horror after all!

A Fox exec issued a statement about the show today, noting that, “Watching celebrities take giant leaps out of their comfort zone and step into the” unexpected will no doubt be truly transformational and comical.” And speaking of that “comical” side of things, here’s a press statement attributed to Shatner; feel free to join us in the mental exercise of deciding whether it’s more sad if he did actually write it, or didn’t: “Thanks to lower gravity on Mars, you’ll weigh 62% less. Bad news: the air is unbreathable, so if you’re from LA, it’ll remind you of home.” Sadly, “Shatner” did not go on to talk down the merits of space plane food, or the problems of having to spend time with your mother-in-law… in space!

No word yet on who the contestants will be on the show’s first season; the series debuts in June.

Actor and comedian Jamie Foxx is in recovery after experiencing an undisclosed “medical complication,” on Tuesday, according to a post on Instagram made by his daughter.

“We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,”  Corrine Foxx posted to her Instagram account on Wednesday.

Foxx’s daughter didn’t go into details about what led to her father’s medical situation but said, “Due to quick action and great care, he already is on his way to recovery.”

His family didn’t mention the actor was hospitalized but TMZ is reporting the actor was rushed to the hospital and “he’s communicating now, and that’s good news.”

TheWrap reached out to Foxx’s reps, but they didn’t immediately reply at the time of this posting.

The 55-year-old got his start in the business by doing comedy. He was on Fox’s hit show in the ’90s “In Living Color” and years later got his own show, “The Jamie Foxx Show.”

Later in his career Foxx won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of singer Ray Charles in the 2005 biographical musical drama “Ray.”

Last week, Netflix premiered the first six episodes of La Firma, the highly anticipated series in which the biggest names in urbano — and the major executives behind them  — search for the next Latin superstar. Twelve hopeful artists from across Latin America and the U.S. have to impress a panel that includes Puerto Rican multi-hyphenate Rauw Alejandro, Yandel of the iconic reggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel, Argentine singer Nicki Nicole, plus mega-producer Tainy and industry veteran Lex Borrero. The final winner signs a life-changing contract with Tainy and Borrero’s influential label Neon 16.

Already, viewers have rallied to watch the contestants show off their skills on each episode, inching closer and closer to the finale. They get hands-on experience, working closely with the judges and even recording original music in the studio with a roster of special guests. Balvin, Luny from reggaeton pioneers Luny Tunes, and will.i.am are among the stars who drop by to help the aspiring artists along the way. At the end of every episode, they perform for the judges. If they don’t make the cut, their journey ends when Borrero tears up a contract right in front of them, building up the drama.

“I wanted a TV moment like in The Voice where they push the button and the chair turns,” says Borrero, who created the show under his NTERTAIN imprint. “That intensity: That’s why the ripping of the contract became the moment. We knew that was going to be an impactful moment to create tension.”

La Firma was developed with Nikki Boella, who was behind the hit series Rhythm + Flow with Cardi B on the panel. On La Firma, each song that’s recorded by the 12 contestants has been released to the public on streaming platforms, something that Tainy says was intended to offer an up-close look at what an artist experiences.

“I want people to see a little bit into the lives of what an artist goes through,” Tainy says. “There’s a whole process and a lot of details that go into creating a complete artist.”

On the day of the big finale, when the final winner will be revealed, Nicki Nicole, Tainy, and Borrero caught up with Rolling Stone and shared what their experiences as judges has been like — and what people can expect.

How would you describe the experience of being on the judging panel?
Nicole: To be part of the judging panel for the first time on a TV show, I won’t lie to you, at first I was nervous. Here, you have to apply a lot of pressure so that the contestants can give the best of themselves and you have to accompany them through this journey in the best way. Lex, even though we butted heads a lot, he knew how to teach me to apply pressure, but pressure that’s positive because it helped bring the best in each contestant. After we got to get to know each other on the judging panel and got to know the contestants, I know that we created something unique.

Tainy: I wanted to be a judge that was fair to give constructive critiques, whether they were positive or negative, knowing that everything is for the betterment of each contestant. It was difficult at times to give negative criticism, but everything we said was to help them advance. They have to grow within the span of the episodes. If we don’t see the changes that we asked for, maybe they won’t get to the next step. It was a process of learning for me. As time passed, it got easier.

Rauw Alejandro and Yandel also served as judges. What was the chemistry like among the panel?
Nicole: We laughed a lot. You can see us laughing a bit on the show, but we laughed more behind-the-scenes. There was a lot of chemistry. We connected very quickly with the contestants. It was a beautiful chemistry and I hope to keep working with this team. Lex is the bad guy of the series but sometimes he had a good heart. [Laughs]

Lex, how did you feel to be in front of the camera for the first time on the series?
Borrero: For me, it was hard. The character that you see there is not generally how I am as far as ripping someone’s contract in their face. It’s not an easy thing to do and it adds a lot of pressure. Now looking back and looking at the show, I’m glad I did it. It was awesome. Like Nicki said, the chemistry between the judges was incredible. In the last episode, I was thanking the judges and I broke down crying, which we didn’t show. That’s naturally who I am.

What are you looking for in the next urbano superstar?
Nicole: Personally, what I was looking for the most were the contestants who were being authentic. We’re in a place where what stands out is to be authentic and genuine, so that’s what I was looking for the most. I swear to you that there’s a lot of that here.

Tainy and Lex, how closely are you going to be working with the winner on your Neon16 label?
Tainy: It’s going to be a continuation of what we started on the show. Getting to know them, getting to know their style, what they want to do, and what we want them to try because we know all their strengths and the things we can do as an artist. To me it’s going to be special to just be there and see where we can take it. To see how we can level whatever we did on the show one step up. It’s going to be a cool experience, a cool journey. I’m very excited about that.

Borrero: We’re actually talking with the contestants, guiding them, and helping them pick music. Like Nicki said, we all feel very united because we were together for weeks and became friends. We believe in the talent from this show and we believe in the person who won, and we’re going to bet everything on them.

What’s next after La Firma?
Nicole: This year I’m going to release an album that’s very different for me. When we were filming La Firma in Miami, that’s where I started working with El Guincho, who is one of my producers. I’m very excited about this album.

Tainy: I’ve been working on my album [Data] since the show started. I’m finally done, so hopefully everyone gets to hear all that I’ve been working on for so long. I’m happy for that, for everything that’s to come, from La Firma, from the winner or from me usually working with amazing artists. Just trying to put more music out there to keep helping people get inspired by doing what we love.

Last week, Netflix premiered the first

John Wick 4 is an indulgent film, and that’s understating the matter. At eleven minutes shy of three hours, it is a crucible of ultraviolence and hyperbolized aesthetics. Still, the latest iteration of the Keanu Reeves-led franchise has proven enormously popular, with many fans even comparing it to the original. And yet, for all its spectacle, something is lost in the fourth film—subtly, John Wick 4 has dismantled the Baba Yaga mythology that made the original so great.

Let’s consider a beloved sequence from the first John Wick, wherein John tracks Iosef Tarasov—played by Alfie Allen—to his mob safe house. In this scene, John’s methods are that of a phantom. He systematically eliminates every guard without being seen, forcing Iosef to flee to the garage, where John is waiting for him. The scene’s composition reflects John’s wraithlike nature—we get glimpses of him, but he only appears fully in the frame at the very end to execute Iosef with a single bullet to the head.

This scene encapsulates everything that makes John Wick so feared. He is perfectly calm, preternaturally aware, and ruthlessly efficient. As an audience, we instantly intuit the resounding veracity of his moniker—Baba Yaga—the Bogeyman. But, when it comes to his trade, John is scarcely a man and more a grim reaper-like entity.

Now consider a similar sequence in John Wick 4, wherein John is tasked with assassinating Scott Adkins in a fat suit, otherwise known as Killa. He pursues his target through a crowded nightclub, fights a handful of goons, and proceeds to get pummeled by Killa and thrown off of a balcony, slamming his back against a metal beam in the process. Completely unscathed, John promptly fights more goons before receiving yet another pummeling from Killa; this time, however, he does an inspiring Rocky impression, summons a bout of unseen strength, and kicks Killa down a flight of stairs, killing him.

“…something is lost…John Wick 4 has dismantled the Baba Yaga mythology that made the original so great.”

Comparing these two scenes reveals an important distinction in John’s character between the first film and the fourth. In the original John Wick, his actions inform his mythos. His skill is clear, and his methods are lethal. The film cleverly uses John’s legend to push the boundaries of realism. Consequently, Iosef’s death is an exact mirror of the Baba Yaga mythos—it is brutal, haunting, and resonant.

In John Wick 4, however, the formula is reversed, as his mythos now informs his actions. No longer does he need to be skillful; instead, he just needs to be present. Rather irreverently, the film uses John’s legend not to push the boundaries of realism but to reject them wholesale. Consequently, Killa’s death is a parody of the Baba Yaga mythos—it is garish, drawn out, and almost laughably ridiculous.

Much of this has to do with the change in scope the franchise has taken. Whereas John Wick and John Wick 2 are focused thrillers, John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick 4 have opted for a deliberately epic style, one which demands an aggrandized cinematic sensibility. Nevertheless, a movie can be grand as well as internally coherent. John Wick 4’s villainous Marquis de Gramont—played by Bill Skarsgård and easily the best antagonist since Michael Nyqvist’s Viggo Tarasov—speaks regularly about actions and their consequences. Ironically, this is precisely what John Wick 4 lacks. John is routinely ejected down multiple stories or struck by moving vehicles with zero consequence. This makes the dizzyingly elaborate fight scenes tedious, as there are no stakes. And while there is something to be said of the franchise’s audacious, tongue-in-cheek style, such audacity has about as much relevance to the self-serious John Wick 4 as John’s dog.

However, the biggest and most insidious consequence of disregarding the Baba Yaga mythos is that it will ultimately render John Wick no longer an interesting character but a risible caricature. Because John is effectively invincible—but as a punching bag rather than an elite assassin—the forthcoming sequels will pit him against ever more absurd situations, and he always prevails. John Wick will become the cinema version of One Punch Man, except without the satire.

A day after the City of Edmonton’s community and public services committee met to discuss a report looking at the city’s approach when it comes to homeless encampments, Mayor Amarjeet Sohi spoke about the need for more provincial support as city council looks to break from the status quo.

“(We want to put more homeless people) into permanent supportive housing, but when we talk to service providers, we don’t have enough supportive housing,” he told Global News on Wednesday.

The city’s homeless population doubled over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We don’t have enough shelters for people to go to. We don’t have enough day drop-in spaces for people … We don’t have enough detox facilities in the city, we don’t have enough treatment facilities in this city.”

Response to homeless camps in Edmonton needs to change, say councillors and advocates

The Alberta government is responsible for funding shelter spaces in the province.

Sohi has spoke out many times about the need for more help from the province and said the current system is dealing with symptoms — not the root causes of homelessness.

“We are stepping up and stepping in as much as we can, but we will not be able to find permanent sustainable solutions to this crisis until the province recognizes that it’s their lack of investment in these areas that is causing disorder in Edmonton.

“That is causing a lot of concern for businesses who have been vandalized — or people who do not feel safe in the downtown or on the LRT system.”

Data from the city reveals a sharp rise in complaints from Edmontonians about encampments.

A recent report found the city’s approach to homelessness has been underfunded and understaffed with a lack of accountability and co-ordination between agencies.”

Some city councillors say they believe having city workers break up encampments creates more problems than it solves.

The city is now looking at trying to get more people who need it into supportive housing while also trying to make encampments safer.

“It is very important to be clear that we have encampments in our city because we don’t have proper permanent supportive housing available for people to go to and spend a day and evening and be in that place,” Sohi said.

“(The camps are the result) of lack of affordable and supportive housing.”

Sohi said the city is doing what it can to manage the encampments because it recognizes the social disorder and safety concerns not just for those living in them, but also for the surrounding communities.

“What we need is a comprehensive plan and we’ve been working on that plan, you know, stressing to the province that they don’t recognize and really understand the severity of the problems that we have — caused by their lack of investment in mental health, in addictions recovery in not having proper housing available or not having proper dignified shelter capacity in the city.”

The mayor noted the city did learn it would receive some funding for certain projects in the latest provincial budget but said it is still “not enough to be meeting the need that we have out there.”

Hunter Baril, a press secretary for the Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services, issued a statement to Global News that noted the provincial government is “focused on housing as a critical support.”

“(That is) why we are providing over $1 billion over three years to invest in affordable housing,” the statement reads. “Last month, we were proud to announce $120 million in shovel-ready projects, adding nearly 1,100 new affordable housing units into the province. These investments are putting Alberta on a path towards a better future, ensuring safer communities and more supports for those in need.”

Baril noted the province is committed to helping homeless people find housing and receive more supports and said the government made announcements last year worth $187 million meant to address the issues.

“These investments are ensuring that emergency shelter space is available for those who need it. Over the past week in Edmonton, we have averaged 78 per cent occupancy in homeless shelters throughout the city.”

Organizations that track the homeless population in Edmonton say the most recent count is almost 3,000 people living rough.

Following Tuesday committee meeting, city council will now be tasked with discussing a proposal to fund an initiative to move 100 people homeless people out of encampments and into permanent housing.

The Alberta NDP has outlined a plan for how it would address the affordable housing crisis if elected.

Story continues below advertisement

It’s strategy would invest $1.6 billion with a goal to build 8,500 more affordable housing units within five years. NDP seniors and housing critic Lori Sigurdson said they hope to help 40,000 Albertans find a safe and affordable place to live.

“Alberta needs more social housing — whether that’s for seniors, persons with disabilities, newcomers, families experiencing poverty or anyone who needs wraparound supports,” Sigurdson said.

The NDP also included rental assistance in its plan to support 11,00 new homes. The NDP said it would use a rent bank to protect people from sudden evictions and have income support.

Hailey Bieber, whose name adorns a viral $17 smoothie at luxury grocer Erewhon, is expanding on her YouTube interview series, Who’s In My Bathroom?, with a spinoff cooking show.

Debuting on Wednesday, the six-episode first season of What’s In My Kitchen? will feature Bieber sharing recipes for her favorite dishes, including an at-home version of her Erewhon smoothie, chicken wings and pizza toast.

In a statement, Bieber described the cooking show as a “natural spinoff” to her interview series, especially since the latter frequently featured her eating food with her guests. Like Who’s In My Bathroom?, What’s In My Kitchen? is created in partnership with OBB Media. Hexclad will serve as the sponsor of the series.

“What’s In My Kitchen? was a natural spinoff to Who’s In My Bathroom? because our audience was ready for us to stop eating in the bathroom!” Bieber said. “I’ve loved cooking and sharing meals with friends on my social channels for years, and I can’t wait to bring this experience to the fans of our network with OBB and HexClad. Creating new formats and IP for my channel has been really empowering, as my team and I get to truly create everything from concept to screen, and I can’t wait for everybody to see what’s next.”

For the series, Bieber will source her ingredients from Village Market Place from the the food justice nonprofit Community Services Unlimited. Hexclad will also make a donation to the Accion Opportunity Fund that will allow small businesses owned by women and people of color in the food industry to leverage $100,000 in microloans. (Proceeds from Bieber’s Erewhon smoothie also go to her nonprofit Rhode Futures Foundation, a rep claims.)

Michael D. Ratner, the CEO of OBB and director on the series, said What’s In My Kitchen? will take in fan feedback to help inform which recipes Bieber

“The fans are just as much a producer as any of us,” Ratner said. “This instantaneous feedback loop is what makes the evolving landscape of new media so exciting and we can’t wait to roll out the show that fans want.”

Bieber launched her YouTube channel in March 2021 and now has more than 2 million subscribers on the platform — 1 million of which were gained in the first six weeks of launching. Her Who’s In My Bathroom? series has featured guests like Gwyneth Paltrow, Keke Palmer, Ayesha Curry, Lilly Singh, Emily Ratajkowski and Kendall Jenner.

What’s In My Kitchen? is co-created and executive produced by Bieber and Ratner. Arlen Konopaki, Raquel Dominguez, Simone Spira, Scott Ratner and Kfir Goldberg for OBB also serve as executive producers. Olivia Rudensky is a consulting producer.

In newly revealed audio from December, 2020, a Trump campaign official admitted that when the Secretary of State of Georgia audited Dominion voting machines, the findings came “pretty darn close” to the machines’ count, and that “there weren’t any physical issues” with them.

The admission contradicts the false claim made by Donald Trump and his allies that the 2020 election was rigged against him. Listen to the recording at the top of the page right now.

In the recording, aired exclusively on Wednesday’s episode of “Alex Wagner Tonight,” the official can be heard talking to former Fox News producer Abby Grossberg. Grossberg was a senior booking producer for Maria Bartiromo, and later head of booking for Tucker Carlson, prior to being fired by the network.

Grossberg asked the Trump official if any of the voting machines have been looked at in Georgia.

“I’d have to check on that in terms of Georgia, I know during the audit they did check on those machines,” the official said in the recording. “Can just go off the record for one sec here?”

Grossberg replied, “Yeah, sure. Of course. I don’t want us to say it, if it’s not. That’s why we’re checking.”

“I think they have looked at the machines. When the secretary of state did its audit. There was a lot, I think a fair bit of looking at the machines. The audit came in pretty darn close to what the machine count was with the receipts. So, you know, I don’t know the outcome of those, but our understanding, again, this is from the Secretary of State’s office, was that there weren’t any physical issues with machines on those inspections.”

The recordings are among the evidence that Fox failed to turn over during discovery in Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against the network. The company played the recording in court on Wednesday. The recordings were given to Dominion, and subsequently to Wagner, by Grossberg’s legal team.

Fox was sanctioned Wednesday by the presiding judge in the lawsuit, for withholding that evidence.

Grossberg’s legal team said they gave the recordings over to Dominion when they realized months after discovery that Fox didn’t hand them over. She also said the transcripts and audio recordings were widely circulated and discussed within the network.

Fox News is also being sued by Grossberg, who claims the network pressured her to air falsehoods about the 2020 election, and that it is attempting to set her up to take the fall in the Dominion lawsuit.

Kajol talks about judgments passed about her weight and skin.

Kajol opened up about facing judgments when she started off as an actress during her initial years in the industry.

Known for her chirpiness, outspoken nature and expressive eyes, Kajol recently revealed how it took a long time for her to believe that she was actually beautiful. In a recent interview, Kajol recalled how people “body-shamed” her in the initial years of her career. Although Kajol believed she was cool, attractive, smart, and intelligent, she felt she wasn’t pretty enough.

Talking to Humans of Bombay, Kajol recalled, “‘She is dark, she is fat and she wears specs all the time.’ These were some of the judgments that were passed when I first started working in the industry. I couldn’t care less. I knew I was smart, cool and better than everyone out there who had any negatives to say for me. So, I kept continuing to be myself and never let it show. Sooner or later, when they couldn’t pull me down, the world simply embraced me for who I was – Kajol.” The actress eventually realised she was beautiful, but not until she was 32-33 when she finally looked in the mirror and said it to herself.

Kajol further said that she continued to be herself and never let it show. “And like I said, you fake it, till you believe it and eventually you will make it,” the actress said.

Once in an old interview with Pinkvilla, Kajol addressed rumours of undergoing some sort of cosmetic surgery. Smashing all the reports, Kajol explained how “working in direct sunlight” led to the tanning of her skin. And it was years later, she got her real colour back. She denied all the speculations around any kind of skin-whitening surgery.

“I have not undergone any skin whitening surgery. I have just stayed out of the sun! For 10 years of my life, I was working all the time under the sun, which is why I got tanned! And now I am not working in the sun anymore. So I’ve got untanned! It’s not a skin whitening surgery, it’s a stay-at-home surgery,” she said.

From making her debut with Bekhudi to appearing in movies like Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and My Name Is Khan, Kajol has had a successful 3-decade long reign in the Hindi film industry. Undoubtedly, she has been a treat to watch on screen. Most recently, she appeared in the film Salaam Venky also starring Vishal Jethwa and Aahana Kumra in key roles.

When “The Blue Lagoon” director Randal Kleiser reached out to Brooke Shields after the release of her explosive new documentary, she sent his call to voicemail.

In her new documentary, “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” the model and actor looks back at her childhood spent in the spotlight, exposing the harsh reality of a young Hollywood star who’s sexualized and exploited. The doc examines the controversial films “Pretty Baby” and “The Blue Lagoon,” which both feature an underage Shields in a sexual light.

Shields revealed during an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Tuesday that she got a call from Kleiser after “Pretty Baby” debuted on Hulu.

“I saw his name on my phone and I was like ‘Oh, oh, what do I do?’” she said anxiously. “I let it go to voicemail because I want to see what the tone is.”

According to Shields, Kleiser asked for a “chat,” but she’s not interested in bringing it all up again.

“It’s not about that,” she continued. “It’s about these males needing me to be in a certain category to serve their story. And it never was about me. It was never protective of me. It was fun and loving at times, but I was just there. I was a pawn.”

Shields said being sexualized so early in life left her not knowing how to interpret her experiences. “I was made to feel culpable,” she told Barrymore. “At the same time, you victim-shame yourself.”

Shields was only 14 when she arrived on Fiji’s Turtle Island to shoot the 1980 movie “The Blue Lagoon.” She turned 15 over the course of the four months she spent filming the coming-of-age story that follows two cousins marooned on an island as children.

As they grow and go through puberty, with no one to guide them as they evolve, they discover their sexuality and fall in love.

Shields and her co-star Christopher Atkins, who was 18 at the time the film was shot, were both featured nearly nude throughout the film. During select scenes, Shields’ hair covered her breasts and Atkins was naked during a lovemaking scene.

Atkins told “Studio 10” in a 2015 interview that Kleiser had put a poster of Shields over his bunk on the island so he would genuinely fall in love with his co-star.

“They wanted to make it a reality show,” Shields says in the new documentary. “They wanted to sell my actual sexual awakening.”

The documentary suggests that Randal used the public’s fascination with Shields after she starred as an 11–year-old prostitute in “Pretty Baby” to the film’s advantage. He’s quoted in the documentary describing the film’s premise to a newspaper: “It’s real, she’s going from a child to a woman during the filming.”

“The irony was I wasn’t in touch with any of my own sexuality,” Shields said. “I was raised Catholic, with sex they sort of taught me ‘wait till you’re married, wait till you’re married’ and it was put into my brain. I had a lot of shame around all of it. My dad always tried to pretend that I didn’t do any of the things I had done. He just buried his head. I don’t know if he ever saw one of my movies.”

We have reached the final two episodes of She-Hulk, and we still don’t really know who the Big Bad is.

For that matter, we still haven’t seen Daredevil yet, which is bizarre since he was all over the early marketing.

I could use more Mallory Book, too. Hmm, I’m coming across as pessimistic about the show. Instead, I’m thrilled with She-Hulk and wish we were getting more of it.

Alas, we’re coming to the end of the road. So, let’s savor what we have by talking about She-Hulk episode 1-8, the one where the classic She-Hulk outfit finally appears.

Who Is the Guard Frog?

Image: Marvel

“The hell is a Guard Frog?”

“I think it’s his name.”

I’m quoting dialogue from the random thieves trying to steal a 65” television who encounter not Guard Frog but Leap Frog, a would-be superhero.

Source: Marvel Studios

Well, Leap Frog would be a superhero in a much different MCU where competence isn’t a prerequisite. Leap Frog is a laughingstock.

As proof, we watch as two thugs easily whoop his tail and leave him to run fly away.

Source: Marvel Studios

During his epic departure from the local electronics store, Leap Frog gleefully shouts his trademark catchphrase, “Time to ribbit and rip it!”

Seconds later, Leap Frog plummets to the ground due to a super-suit malfunction. Then, his legs catch fire, which can happen when you misuse rocket fuel.

Image: Marvel

Leap Frog wants to sue the manufacturer of his super-suit, who happens to be – you guessed it! – the Drip Broker, Luke Jacobson.

I have questions here, as we previously learned that the Drip Broker held the title of tailor to the MCU. Meanwhile, Leap Frog seems like an idiot.

Image: Marvel

In fact, I wonder how Leap Frog even got the Drip Broker to make him a suit. Remember all the hoops Team She-Hulk had to jump through to get hers?

I needn’t wait long for an explanation, though. Jennifer Walter’s boss at GLK&H informs her that Leap Frog’s dad, Mr. Patilio, “is one of our biggest clients.”

Interview with the Drip Broker

Image: Marvel

Jen has no choice but to confer with the Drip Broker about the malfunctioning suit. Suffice to say that he feels attacked.

Mr. Jacobson takes pride in his craft and knows that he has never made a flawed suit, which is also his reputation.

The Drip Broker refuses to speak further on the matter and kicks Jennifer out of his office. Also, he will no longer accept her as a client, which is a problem.

Image: Marvel

The Female Lawyer of the Year event is coming on Friday, and she needs a She-Hulk-sized dress!

Maybe they can still be friends after their court case? Nah. But also yes.

Jennifer and Leap Frog have sued, and the superheroine attorney believes her client has a good case.

Image: Marvel

Her expectations collapse once Luke’s attorney arrives in court. He’s a blind man with a quick wit and an easy smile.

Ladies and gentlemen, Matt Murdock has arrived on the Disney side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We should have a Daredevil sighting within the next 20 minutes!

Source: Marvel

First, Murdock kicks Jennifer’s tail in court. She’s completely blindsided by Matt and has inexplicably also not interrogated her own client.

Leap Frog had ignored the manufacturer’s warning about his suit. It expressly stated not to use jet fuel. So yes, the case gets thrown out of court.

Meanwhile, Leap Frog is out a suit, while Jennifer has lost a friend AND a tailor. Okay, Luke’s more of a work acquaintance but still. They aren’t on speaking terms now.

Source: Marvel Studios

Jenn goes to the bar to drown her sorrows, wherein she meets Matt Murdock again. The two share a drink and a vibe. Each one gets a text, though.

Stuff like this explains why superheroes have such a tough time hooking up.

The Fight and the Even Bigger Fight

Image: Marvel

This week’s episode achieves the perfect tone, as it’s sometimes serious but often silly. Leap Frog is a hilariously entitled brat.

Angry and without a suit, the younger Patilio kidnaps the Drip Broker and forces him to work on something even, I dunno, froggier?

Jennifer won’t learn this for a bit, though. All she knows is that her client calls her and says he’s being attacked. Who is the assailant? Daredevil.

Image: Marvel

Daredevil knows about the kidnapping. Fan service trumps communication, though. It’d be more fun if She-Hulk and Daredevil fought, right?

Murdock has Walters at a disadvantage because he knows she is. Even after she thumps him pretty good and he unmasks, she still doesn’t know him.

Hell’s Kitchen needs a better marketing team.

Image: Marvel

Anyway, just like in every comic book story ever, the battlin’ superheroes join forces and head to this – I cannot type this with a straight face – Lily Pad.

Oh, and I should probably mention that Jenn wanted to impress Daredevil. So, she broke out the outfit that the Drip Broker made for her.

Folks, we have the classic She-Hulk outfit! Repeating, we have the classic She-Hulk outfit!

The Leap Pad and a Ridiculous Villain

Image: Marvel

By the way, the writers and producers have a ton of fun with the Leap Pad. And they love this buffoon character, Leap Frog, too.

He wants a new and improved suit with “fancy AI with a British voice that talks to you.”

Also, Leap Frog calls his goons the Leap Squad but also Tadpoles. They hate it and apparently spend their shifts complaining about the boss.

Image: Marvel

What should make them upset is the boss has ticked off She-Hulk and Daredevil, who wipe out “25 goons” in a matter of minutes.

Finally, the Lily Pad includes an arcade version of Frogger plus a larger arcade game called Leapfrogger. Sure, why not?

I love that Leap Frog is so insecure that he had to have a game especially built for him, and it had to be bigger than the exponentially more famous Frogger.

Image: Marvel

Of course, She-Hulk and Daredevil have little problem beating Leap Frog and his goon squad.

In fact, the most intriguing part of the conversation involves the two attorneys debating the best strategy for keeping him out of jail.

Image: Marvel

Meanwhile, She-Hulk rescues Luke Jacobson and earns herself another dress from the Drip Broker. But, of course, that should have happened anyway. She had pre-paid for it!

The hilarious running joke in She-Hulk centers on how little respect Jacobson has for Walters combined with how desperately she needs him.

The Sex and the Awards

Image: Marvel

This episode doubles as a romantic comedy where girl meets boy, loses to boy in court, slaps boy around, learns boy’s secret identity, and then has sex with boy.

The chemistry between Tatiana Maslany and Charlie Cox is real, instantaneous, and hopefully not just a one-off in this episode.

Daredevil Takes the Walk of Shame

Image: Marvel

However, the best moment occurs when Daredevil does the walk of shame the following morning.

Soon afterward, a strange scene occurs wherein Walters breaks the fourth wall to ask a vital question.

“Is it the kind of twist that’s like, ‘there’s another Hulk, but this one’s red,’ or, like, ‘I’m getting fridged?’”

Image: Marvel

I love the writers forever for referencing fridging, which I’ve discussed for at least three Disney+ Marvel series thus far. These are my people.

As fate would have it, the twist is that the big gala is Friday, and She-Hulk wins Female Lawyer of the Year! But, of course, so do several other lawyers, including Mallory Book.

Apparently, all the nominees are also the winners. However, only She-Hulk suffers the consequences of the toxic male website, Intelligencia.

Image: Marvel

The “wall” behind the presentation stage proves to be a digital display that the Intelligencia hacks to play…She-Hulk’s sex tape with Josh?

Honestly, the whole hack feels a bit anticlimactic and ineffective. However, Jennifer’s parents are in the crowd. That pirated sex tape sets her off.

She-Hulk smashes the monitor, setting off an alarm that actually makes her look like the Red Hulk for a moment.

Image: Marvel

As she goes outside to chase members of the Intelligencia, members of what I presume are Damage Control confront Jenn, who is pretty scary now.

She-Hulk looks to the camera in the final shot, although she may be staring at someone unexpected. It’s impossible to know yet.

Final Thoughts

This episode effectively tied together some of the challenges women face in society. First, Jenn meets a guy and has a fling.

Then, a disgruntled ex exposes their dirty laundry for the world to see.

Somehow, she is subjected to intense scrutiny even though the ex’s actions are heinous and indefensible.

Image: Marvel

On the downside, we’ve reached the final episode, and we still know virtually nothing about the season’s apparent big bad, the Intelligencia.

That’s a minor quibble, though. This story has been so entertaining and cleverly written. I’m a big fan of She-Hulk and am grateful for another A+ episode.

Poor Leap Frog.

This is the way, Star Wars fans.

Season 3 of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is live, and DMZ’s big update includes plenty of new features you’ll want to try, including more ways to safely exfil from your match. Here is everything you need to know about Season 3’s new exfil options with the heavy chopper.

How to get the heavy chopper extraction

DMZ’s heavy chopper

Surviving a match of DMZ and keeping all your loot requires you to exfil from the map. You can still take the standard exfil, the map’s final exfil chopper, or use a Hostage contract to extract, but now you can use one of Season 3’s new heavy choppers to make a slightly stealthier escape. Here are the two ways you can use them.

Buy a heavy chopper extraction

Getting a private exfil is expensive, but if you have enough cash or can pool it with your teammates, you can exit the match via a heavy chopper. It’s a $50,000 purchase at a Buy Station, which will trigger the chopper to land at an exfil point that is inactive for other players in your match.

Of course, just because they can’t hijack your ride doesn’t mean you can’t die. This area won’t make you invulnerable if enemies happen to be nearby, but there’s a lot less heat with this paid extraction than you’ll get with a public exfil location.

Fuel up a heavy chopper

If you can’t afford the $50,000 price tag, another option for using a heavy chopper exfil is to use the stationary one located on your tac-map. This chopper is found at Al Mazrah’s Hafid Port, and it’s not flying anywhere until someone fuels it up.

You can’t use the regular gas cans used to fuel DMZ’s other vehicles. You’ll need to scavenge the required Heavy Chopper Fuel. This fuel is most commonly found near Al Mazrah’s airport, so check inside buildings and garages around the airport.

It can also sometimes be found on the cargo train that circles the map. This train is often a highly-contested location in DMZ, and the airport has tons of AI to battle through. Both places offer a different risk, so just pick which area is more convenient for you.

Locate a can of Heavy Chopper Fuel and bring it back to the chopper to be able to pilot the aircraft. Flying the chopper out of bounds will automatically trigger your exfil from the match.

Hopefully this guide helps you secure a safer exfil for your next match of DMZ. Make sure to check out our best barter recipe guide for Season 3. We also have a guide for DMZ’s new workbench feature.

How do you figure out how much will your movie cost?

Estimating the budget for a film based on a screenplay is a crucial step in the pre-production process. Accurately estimating the budget will help filmmakers determine how much funding they will need, and how they can allocate it to different aspects of the production.

However, this task can be daunting, especially for first-time filmmakers. We highly recommend that you hire a line producer, but if you can’t or want to try to budget it out yourself, we have your back.

In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to estimate a budget when reading a screenplay.

How to Estimate a Budget When Reading a Screenplay

Estimating a budget for a film based on a screenplay can be a complex task that requires careful consideration of various factors. Here are some steps you can take to estimate a budget when reading a screenplay:

1. Read the screenplay carefully and take notes

When reading a screenplay, it’s important to pay attention to the various elements that will impact the budget. This includes the number of locations, special effects, stunts, and the number of cast and crew members required. Take detailed notes about these elements as you read the screenplay, and keep them handy for later use.

Here is a breakdown of everything you should keep your eye on:

  • Locations: The number and complexity of locations required for a film can significantly impact the budget. Filming on location can be expensive, especially if travel and accommodations are required for the cast and crew.

  • Special Effects: Special effects, such as CGI, practical effects, and explosions, can add up quickly and become a significant expense. The more elaborate the special effects required for a film, the higher the budget will likely be.

  • Stunts: Action films that require elaborate stunts can be very expensive to produce. Stunt coordinators, safety equipment, and insurance can add up to a significant cost.

  • Cast and Crew: The size and experience of the cast and crew can impact the budget. Hiring well-known actors, experienced directors, and skilled crew members can drive up costs.

  • Time and Schedule: The amount of time required to shoot a film and the schedule of the production can also impact the budget. Extended shooting schedules and overtime pay can add up, as well as the costs of delaying production.

  • Props and Wardrobe: The cost of creating and acquiring props and wardrobe can also drive the budget of a film. Period pieces or films set in specific historical or cultural contexts can require elaborate and costly props and wardrobe.

2. Determine the genre and style of the film

Different genres and styles of films require different levels of production value and resources. For example, a period piece will require more resources for costumes, set design, and props, while an action movie will require more resources for stunts and special effects. It’s important to identify the genre and style of the film you’re estimating the budget for. This will help you determine the level of resources required for the production.

3. Consider the talent involved

The budget for a film will depend on the talent involved, such as the actors, director, and crew. More experienced and well-known talent will typically require a higher budget. It’s important to consider the level of talent involved in the film and adjust the budget accordingly.

4. Research the costs of production elements

To accurately estimate the budget for a film, it’s important to research the costs of the different production elements that will be required, such as equipment rentals, location fees, and special effects. This will give you an idea of how much each element will cost and help you estimate the overall budget.

5. Create a budget breakdown

Once you have gathered all the necessary information, it’s time to create a budget breakdown. This breakdown should include all the different elements required for the film, such as pre-production, production, and post-production costs. By creating a detailed budget breakdown, you can ensure that all aspects of the production are accounted for and that there are no surprises down the line.

6. Adjust the budget based on the available resources

Finally, it’s important to adjust the budget based on the resources available to you, such as funding, equipment, and personnel. If the budget is higher than the available resources, you may need to make adjustments to the screenplay or find ways to reduce costs. On the other hand, if the budget is lower than the available resources, you may be able to allocate additional funds to certain areas of production to improve the overall quality of the film.

Keep in mind that estimating a budget for a film based on a screenplay is an iterative process that may require multiple revisions as more information becomes available.

Summing Up How to Estimate a Budget When Reading a Screenplay

Estimating a budget for a film based on a screenplay is a complex task that requires careful consideration of various factors. By following the steps we have outlined in this guide, you can gain a better understanding of the resources required to bring your screenplay to life.

Remember, estimating the budget is an iterative process that may require multiple revisions as more information becomes available. With the right mindset and tools, you can estimate a budget that will help you create a successful and impactful film.

Let me know any other strategies you have in the comments.

Four best friends head to Italy for a bit of hedonistic adventure in the full trailer for Book Club: The Next Chapter.

Focus Features’ sequel to the 2018 film Book Club hits theaters May 12 with Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen reprising their roles from the original. Andy Garcia, Don Johnson and Craig T. Nelson are also among the returning castmembers in director Bill Holderman’s follow-up.

As seen in the trailer, Book Club: The Next Chapter focuses on Vivian (Fonda) surprising her pals with the news that she and Arthur (Johnson) are tying the knot. Diane (Keaton), Sharon (Bergen) and Carol (Steenburgen) decide to accompany Vivian on an impromptu getaway to Italy in an effort to provide her with a special bachelorette celebration.

The trailer features Vivian’s friends reacting to the news of her impending nuptials. This includes Bergen’s character quipping, “You’re getting married in a church? I’m shocked you didn’t burst into flames as you crossed the threshold.”

At another point, Vivian admires multiple classical statues of nude men and asks her friends, “What’s the protocol here? Where do I stuff the dollar bills?”

Book Club: The Next Chapter has a script from Holderman and Erin Simms, and the pair also produce. Andrew Duncan, Trish Hofmann, Enzo Sisti and Brad Weston are executive producers.

Fonda has had a busy stretch, having starred in Kyle Marvin’s 80 for Brady, released in February, and Paul Weitz’s Moving On, which premiered last month. Keaton previously starred in the rom-com Maybe I Do, which debuted in January.

While the explosions were fun, we especially loved Gib’s character development on True Lies Season 1 Episode 7.

Most of the time, Gib seems carefree as he jokes with his teammates or offers sage wisdom. We hadn’t dug into anything personal yet, except he hasn’t dated much.

Now, Gib was forced to work with his estranged dad, Al, and in doing so, they confronted some long-buried issues.

No one knew anything about Gib’s father or that he worked at Axe Industries. It was strange that Gwen from Engineering was running the briefing instead of Gib or Director Trilby.

Harry: I’m sorry, time out. Did you say Gib’s father?
Luther: Gib has a father?
Harry: Does he know about Omega? Does he know that Gib is part of Omega?

Gib is usually so mild-mannered, so when he lost his temper and refused to consider working with his dad, you knew there had to be more to the story.

Gib is usually the first person who cares about rescuing the hostages, but even hearing that were 130 hostages to save didn’t sway him.

Luckily it swayed his dad, but Al wasn’t any more thrilled to see his son than Gib was to see him.

Al: All I know is my son, who hasn’t bothered to call in over a decade shows up at my doorstep wanting my help.
Gib: Wasn’t my idea, Al.

Helen had to mediate since Gib refused to let his dad offer advice about the rescue mission once they were through the tunnels.

Al had some excellent ideas about scoping out the basement, especially since it had changed.

That’s the thing about families. Everyone has a different perception of the past. Helen was wise to get father and son talking. It’s a shame it took them ten years to speak. There is probably still a lot left unsaid.

Helen’s insistence got them to open up and remember their love and pride for each other. Al admitted how proud he was of Gib and said he promised his wife he’d look after him on her deathbed since Gib regularly chased bad guys.

Once Gib understood that Al meant Axe Industries to be his legacy, he promised he wouldn’t let anyone destroy his dad’s company.

That was easier said than done, as Victor was out for revenge, but father and son were unbeatable as they led the Omega Sector Team through the basement and confronted Victor.

Gib: Freeze! Freeze! Drop your weapon!
Al: That’s my son. You better listen.

This was one of the best episodes from True Lies Season 1, mainly because the supporting cast was front and center. It also seems like we’re to the better part of the season that Omar Miller teased we’d find if we stuck with the show.

While Gib has been funny throughout, here, Omar Miller got a chance to utilize his dramatic acting chops. We hadn’t seen him blow up like that, and learning about his family history offered insight into his character.

Gib had seemed so gun-shy about relationships until he met Eva. Now we know that probably stemmed from losing his mom at such a young age and having a strained relationship with his dad. He never trusted anyone.

Hopefully, now that he and his dad have reconciled, Gib will open up more about his past. It would be great if Keith David could return in the future as Al because he and Omar Miller had a believable connection as father and son.

Luther and Maria acted like a couple, even if they were not one. Usually, they’re flirty and cute, but in this episode, they were angsty and protective.

It often seems like Maria craves Harry and Helen’s relationship and how they care for each other. Yet, she was embarrassed when Luther brought up her claustrophobia.

So many people are scared of small spaces, and he only wanted to protect her and stop her from having a panic attack. You could tell how much he still cared when, during an intimate moment, he offered to help.

Let me help you through this; I will never bring it up again.

Luther

In many ways, Maria is like the female version of Harry. She’s tough, and she hates asking for help. She’s better at nurturing others than taking help herself. I’m afraid Luther will get tired of waiting soon, and they’ll be stuck in the friend zone.

True Lies’ weakest link remains Harry and Helen. It was nice seeing Helen in a therapist mode as she got father and son communicating, but it was awkward seeing hostages and then cutting to Harry and Helen dancing.

I understand it demonstrated how Harry hated asking for help or following anyone else’s lead, but it was still a really awkward segue.

Harry thrives on being a natural-born leader, whether that’s the team leader at work or the macho husband at home.

Being blinded, even temporarily, made him feel helpless. He couldn’t lead his team to victory and rescue the hostages.

It hurt his ego that his wife thought of a wonderful plan of using night vision glasses that he’d failed to think of himself.

Harry didn’t appreciate that Helen had to direct him to where to shoot when, not long ago, she was the newbie on the team.

However, if their marriage will survive, he will have to learn the importance of teamwork, especially when it comes to his wife.

What did you think of “Independent Dependents”?

Were you excited to see more celebrity guest stars and learn more about Gib’s personal life?

Are you still rooting for Luther and Maria, or would you prefer to see him with someone new like Gwen?

Actress and comedian Mo’Nique has filed a lawsuit against Paramount and CBS on Wednesday and is seeking unpaid royalties from her sitcom “The Parkers.”

The breach of contract lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges CBS and Paramount artificially depressed “The Parkers” profitability to “retain millions that would otherwise be contractually due” to Mo’Nique’s production company.

The suit states, “While the series has proven to be a major financial success for its producers and distributors, the series’ talent have not been permitted to share in the fruits of that success.”

Mo’Nique and her husband and business partner, Sidney Hicks, filed the lawsuit under their production company, Hicks Media. The lawsuit is seeking monetary damages which will be determined at a trial. They are suing both CBS and Paramount and the show’s production company Big Ticket Productions.

“Plaintiff only recently discovered the breaches and/or concealment of material facts described herein when it learned of details of the publicly-filed lawsuit by the writers and creators of the Series,” the suit says. “Before that, they had been lulled through the words and actions of the Defendants into believing that all moneys were properly paid.”

In a statement to the Associated Press, Mo’Nique said, “I just want the contractual compensation that I’ve earned.”

Mo’Nique’s hit show “The Parkers,” was a spin-off of the sitcom “Moesha.” The show ran for five seasons and 110 episodes on now-defunct network UPN from 1999 to 2004. The Oscar-winning actress starred as Nikki Parker, a mother who returns to the same college her daughter is attending.

This isn’t the first time the actress has been involved in a lawsuit. Mo’Nique sued Netflix for race and sex discrimination in its offer for a proposed comedy special. She accused the streamer for trying to low-ball her and said it was part a trend Netflix would actively underpay Black women. That lawsuit was settled last year and now Mo’Nique has a comedy special “My Name Is Mo’Nique” which currently airs on the streamer.

“Mo’Nique is not shy about taking on these David vs. Goliath battles in Hollywood to challenge these questionable practices that are endemic to the industry,” David deRubertis, one of her attorneys in both lawsuits, said in a statement.

Senior Cut Days, written and directed by Alvin Gray, plays out like a homage to the Wes Craven classic The Hills Have Eyes. Admittedly, it does not have the greatest acting and cast to carry the weight of the film. However, the production is decently photographed, and the plot is relatively interesting for a minimal budget of $75,000.

Without providing spoilers, the film centers around a group of young adults who travel to an isolated town in Nevada. There they encounter an unexpected series of disturbing events set into motion by a government experiment conducted in the 1980s and has gone awry. As a result, the characters end up in a fight for survival in the desert.

We’ve seen such plots and characters before. However, it is always fun to see new filmmakers embracing the classic roots of horror. The characters are not particularly memorable, and the dialogue is somewhat forced. Yes, the plot is formulaic, but that is okay. It is fun and does not take itself deadly seriously. Plus, the filmmaker does create some simmering tension.

“…end up in a fight for survival in the desert.”

Senior Cut Days has the obligatory scenes of the group of young people indulging in alcohol and drugs around a campfire and mocking the malevolent forces that surround them. Eventually, these forces overcome them and leave the main characters in a state of panic, desperately fighting to keep alive. While there is abundant violence, the film is not very bloody. The special effects and make-up could have been more effective, but the action and fight sequences are reasonably well-staged and play out with the right amount of intensity.

I found myself quite interested in the premise, which boasts a creative plotline to an old genre. There are elements of The Walking Dead and Night of the Living Dead, as well. This genre can get tiresome, with so many films and shows competing with similar plot lines. This makes Senior Cut Days a refreshing entry into the horror genre and something that cannot be dismissed entirely. Gray creates effective continuity, but there are plotholes.

Still, this is a decent way to pass the time, particularly if you are a horror fan. This is a creepy watch if you like to see new, promising filmmakers like Alvin Gray struggling to create content in this arena outside the studio system. Many filmmakers try and fail to make horror films, which are extremely lucrative and popular. I do not foresee this film being a cult classic, but Gray does demonstrate evidence of talent and a command of the material. I would like to see him make more films with a higher budget to discover how he measures up to modern horror filmmakers such as James Wan, Eli Roth, and Ti West.

As a horror fan, I ultimately found Senior Cut Days engaging enough to demand my attention for its brief run time. I did overlook the budgetary limitations and sought out the elements which were appealing to me. What appealed to me most was that the film struggles to keep the classic heart of the horror film of the 1970s, which has generated the best entries in the genre, alive. It’s nice to see that the greats, Craven, Hooper, and Carpenter, have not been forgotten. Gray struggles in a noble effort to keep this spirit and purity of a good scare alive. It is an optimistic outlook for the future of modern horror that recalls the past.

FORT LAUDERDALE — Nearly a foot (30 centimeters) of rain fell in a matter of hours in Fort Lauderdale – causing widespread flooding, the closure of the city’s airport and the suspension of high-speed commuter rail service for the Broward County region.

The city of Fort Lauderdale released a statement Wednesday evening urging residents and visitors to stay off the roads until the water has subsided.

“Police and Fire Rescue continue to answer calls for service,” the statement said. “Public Works staff are clearing drains and operating pumps to mitigate the water as quickly as possible.”

Wednesday’s relentless showers prompted the airport, one of the largest in the region, to suspend all arriving and departing flights, the airport tweeted around 4:15 p.m.

At around 5 p.m., the airport announced it shut down ground transportation shuttle service in response to recurring tornado warnings and ongoing heavy rainfall.

The main roadways entering and exiting the airport were flooded and impassable, the airport said around 5:15 p.m.

“Please do not attempt to enter or leave the airport at this time,” it warned.

It said airport operations would restart once the weather improves in the Fort Lauderdale area.

The heavy rains also prompted South Florida’s high-speed commuter rail service to shut down. Brightline posted on Twitter Wednesday evening that train service between Miami and Fort Lauderdale was suspended.

The National Weather Service in Miami declared a flash flood emergency around 8 p.m. Wednesday for Fort Lauderdale, along with the areas around Hollywood and Dania Beach. A short time later, forecasters issued a tornado warning for nearby Davie, Plantation and Lauderhill.

There have been no immediate reports of injuries or deaths.

A friend and associate of West’s corroborated the revelation to The Post that some professors at Kanye West’s Donda Academy departed in protest of West’s erratic conduct and anti-Semitic sentiments. According to Malik Yusef, staff members who adhered to the Jewish faith were among those who perished.

I am aware that a few persons of the Jewish faith worked there and that they essentially withdrew their participation or quit due to public pressure from, I am sure, friends and relatives. When your family tells you it’s impossible to stay, you have to go with your team, Yusef, who has characterized himself as an administrator, telling us that he gives out information to the young, developing minds at Donda, stated. The things that Kanye said were utterly ludicrous.

Tamar Andrews, a well-known and highly esteemed education expert, is said to be among the individuals who have purportedly departed the company. TMZ has reported that she is also an influential figure at two Jewish educational institutions. The Post attempted to contact Andrews, but he declined to respond when they called.

Yusef stated to The Post about Kanye West’s anti-Jewish comments, “Critical thinking is what Donda is about, and I don’t think Kanye used critical thinking.” Donda is a critical-thinking game. A request for the school’s statement still needs to be met with a response from the institution.

On Wednesday, Donda Academy Principal Jason Angell sent an email to parents informing them that the school would be closing immediately for the remainder of the 2022-2023 academic year at the decision of our Founder. But just after four hours had passed, an alert was sent stating that classes would be held as scheduled on Thursday and that school had been reinstated.

If you’ve been meaning to watch The Office but never got around to it, you can now start in the metaverse as NBC’s Peacock streaming platform is now available on the Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets.

Currently, the service is available to users (opens in new tab) across the United States and certain US territories like Puerto Rico. However, don’t expect a global roll-out as Peacock is landlocked to those regions (unless you have a VPN, of course). For people living in a supported area, they have access to over 90,000 hours of virtual content from sports to TV shows like WWE wrestling. You can also adjust the in-app screen to either have a large theater-like experience or shrink it down to have it play in the background while you multitask, according to the announcement (opens in new tab).

To entice adopters, Meta is offering “three months of Peacock Premium (opens in new tab)” for free, but only if A) you’re at least 18 years old, B) you live in one of the supported regions, and C) you already have a registered Quest 2 or Quest Pro headset. The company is also providing a free, year-long offer  “if you set up and register a new qualifying Meta Quest VR device now through April 11, 2024”. This launch is part of a three-year partnership between NBC Universal and Meta with more content arriving later down the line. In the coming months, users will soon be able to watch more sporting events from the Indianapolis 500 as well as the U.S. Open golf tournament on their Quest Pro headset. The company is also working on immersive VR experiences based on NBC properties from Universal Monsters (Dracula or The Wolfman, for instance), to The Office. So if you ever dreamed of reenacting the Diversity Day episode or Kevin spilling his famous chili in a virtual version of the Dunder Mifflin office, that could become a virtual reality later this year.

A release date for the virtual experience is unknown, but we did ask Meta for more details. This story will be updated if we hear back.

It’s good to see Meta’s virtual reality platform getting a positive update after a tumultuous start this year. You may have seen reports back in March of company CEO Mark Zuckerburg shifting focus towards generative AI technology as he eases up on going all-in on the metaverse. Zuckerburg’s VR endeavors continue chugging along; just on a smaller scale. Plus, what company would spend a ton of money on projects only to kill the whole thing off in a relatively short time span (apart from Google)?

Whatever Meta is working on, it will soon face fierce competition as Apple may be ready to throw its hat into the ring. The tech giant is reportedly working on its own VR headset. Not much is officially known about Apple’s device although rumors suggest it’ll be powered by the M2 chip.

Recently, TechRadar discovered what could be the best deal on the Meta Quest 2 for the year. You can purchase the device at a reduced price plus get two free games. Be sure to check it out.

William Shatner has signed on to host Fox’s upcoming reality competition show, “Stars on Mars.” The show, which airs on Fox this summer, will put celebrities to the test as they are “faced with authentic conditions that simulate life on Mars,” Fox announced Wednesday.

“Good news for our celebronauts from Mission Control,” Shatner joked in the release. “Thanks to lower gravity on Mars, you’ll weigh 62% less. Bad news: the air is unbreathable, so if you’re from LA, it’ll remind you of home.”

The 92-year-old icon is no stranger to the final frontier, having played Captain James T. Kirk on “Star Trek,” both on TV and in film. Shatner will serve as “Mission Control” on the series, and “will deliver intergalactic tasks to these shining stars throughout their journey on the red planet.”

“The moment I heard the pitch for Stars on Mars, I knew a show this bold, this big and this outlandish simply belonged on FOX,” Allison Wallach, President of Unscripted Programming, FOX Entertainment, said in the release. “Watching celebrities take giant leaps out of their comfort zone and step into the unexpected will no doubt be truly transformational and comical. Throughout, we will learn a lot about these stars, and when you factor in William Shatner leading the charge from Mission Control, we have the makings of a show that’s ready for blast off.”

More from the release:

“The celebrities will compete in missions and will vote to eliminate one of their crewmates each week, sending them back to Earth. Cue the intergalactic alliances and rivalries. ‘Stars on Mars’ will send these famous rookie space travelers where no one has gone before and reveal who has what it takes to survive life on ‘Mars.’”

Stars on Mars airs Monday, June 5 at 8 PM ET on Fox.

William Shatner has signed on to host

In 2002, director Sam Jones made what is widely considered a benchmark for 21st century music documentaries with “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco,” a movie that lucked into just about all the subject matter that could make B-roll footage of the making of an album into A-list material. It had conflict within the band, between an auteur and another member of great talent; conflict with the soon-to-be-ex-record label, over the basically unwanted classic-to-be “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot”); and said auteur doing his own demon-wrestling, outside foils notwithstanding.

Now, it’s easier to see that Jones’ good fortune in happening upon all that wasn’t all luck. More than 20 years later, Jones has come up with another gold-standard music doc, in the form of “Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed,” newly streaming on HBO Max. This time, as the creation of another amazing record — Isbell’s “Reunions” (recorded in late 2019 and released a few months later) — is put under the filmic microscope, there are no record-company bookkeepers as unseen baddies in the backdrop to a making-of. Major labels and the conflicts that come with them are so 2002, right? But one common thread is intra-band tension… as it probably will be in most good rock docs now or 20 years from now. It gets more interesting than that, though. In this instance, the difficult vibes are between bandmates who double as a married couple — Isbell and his fiddler-spouse, Amanda Shires. Here, unlike the by-now iconic beefing between Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett, we know no one’s ultimately going anywhere, right?

Or are they? No one expresses too clearly to the camera in the moment exactly how badly things are going on the personal front, as the recording or some of the most meaningful rock material in recent years seems to more or less move along like gangbusters. But after we see some cutting and/or possibly passive-aggressive remarks shared between husband and wife, the next thing we know, producer Dave Cobb is suggesting that Isbell try out some material at home — and the singer lets slip that “home” that night will be the local Omni. (This isn’t elaborated on in the film, but in real life both members of the couple had at least one night spent in a hotel room.) Later, Shires picks up her iPhone and reads an email letter that she wrote to her husband at their bottom during this time, half matter-of-fact, half heart-wrenching. Suddenly it seems like anything might be possible, even a split between the much-celebrated king and queen of Americana-leaning rock.

The ending is never really in doubt, which maybe is why it’s more satisfying than it ought to be to see the marrieds at the movie’s center squabble, with firm evidence of their mutual fierce emotional intelligence and empathy, knowing there’s likely to be something instructive about it. There’s a scene partway through the 2019 studio footage that flashes ahead to some shared time Isbell and Shires had on stage at a 2020 Walt Disney Hall gig, smack between the wrap-up of the album and the start of the pandemic. In the middle of one song, Shires throws Isbell a mid-verse wink that goes unseen by everyone but the camera, and he offers a slight smile back. It’s hard to think of a more heart-warming moment in the history of the movies this year where strictly visual cues say: This is harder than anyone around us knows, and we’re gonna get through it — and it’s all our secret.

Moving back into the album-making material, Jones eavesdrops on some of the deaths-by-papercuts that can make a marriage go wrong, which just happen to express themselves in an artistic context. Shires takes it as something deeper than a passing comment that he says her violin is too loud. Meanwhile, Isbell’s not happy at the way that his wife, a great singer-songwriter in her own right who happens to have a masters in creative writing, wants to red-pen some of the grammar in the lyrics to the doc’s title song, which he already slaved over. These scenes speak as much to marital strife as musical differences, but also to the editor/writer relationship: It’s sad — but, honestly, just a little more amusing for us than it had to have been at the time — to see a couple that might be fraying around the edges ramp up tension over deeply held positions about usage of the past or present participle in a song lyric. (Isbell is hardly concerned with grammatical rightness in his lyrics, himself: He quips that his audience is “not out there dancing, so I’ve got to get my prepositions right.”)

Jones’ film is not just “Scenes From a Marriage” with a literally harmonious ending, although that relationship stuff is certainly some of the movie’s most compelling. Here’s a fact: Shires is as much of a natural movie star as Isbell is. (We’ll see how some of that plays out when he is seen in his dramatic film debut in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” coming out in October.) The camera loves not just their faces but their mutual mixture of sweetness and acerbic thorniness. Shires comes off as the kind of open book you want to leave open; Isbell seems like he wants to make it his mission to be that transparent, just in the an artistic/empathic deal he’s made with his audience, if nothing else, though he can’t help but be a slight bit more difficult to crease. “Sometimes he needs a lot of space,” she says, as they sit for a joint interview. “You’re goddam right,” he responds. “I’m a man from Alabama, for Christ’s sake.” It sounds like he’s making a self-effacing joke — and if you know his funny Twitter persona at all, he is! — but that doesn’t mean he won’t cut off the interview to go outside in a few seconds.

The doc is hardly all focused on this relationship; there’s too much interesting Isbell backstory that brought Jones to the project in the first place. The director does a terrific job of finding the songs or lyrics that relate most to the tales he wants to put on screen, and one of these has to do with “Dreamsicle,” one of the highlights of the “Reunions” album, and as great a song as the singer-songwriter genre has produced in the last few years. Isbell jokes that the producer, Cobb, who isn’t so focused on lyrics as sound, “still thinks it’s about ice cream.” Actually, it’s pretty specifically about his experience as the child of parents in the midst of deciding to divorce (both mom and dad are bravely interviewed on screen). There’s darling footage home-video footage of a possibly pubescent Isbell — now a modern-day guitar hero — showing off his growing shredding acumen on “Sunshine of My Love.” It’s less darling when he says he took up guitar to drown out the sound of his parents fighting. (That might almost be the oldest story in the world.) A line in “Dreamsicle” about broken glass turns out not to have been random or abstract: Everyone recounts how he threw a baseball through a window when even the electric guitar could no longer mask the marital strife that was driving him crazy.

The present-day marital story does figure into that sequence, premonitorily; what child of divorce, like Isbell, doesn’t wonder how or if they’re going to do it better? But before it really gets back to their marriage, “Running With Our Eyes Closed” moves on to territory many fans may be most curious to see. That would be his hard-drinking years, which are increasingly tough to watch as more video evidence is put on screen, though they went into Isbell being what he partly is today — an un-sanctimonious symbol of recovery among rock ‘n’ rollers. (“Cover Me Up,” his signature song, has just one line about getting sober, but it’s become the biggest line of his career.) There’s sufficient coverage of the years in which Isbell blossomed into a baby-faced alcoholic as a member of the great band Drive-By Truckers, including candid accounts from that group’s leader, Patterson Hood, who repeats the oft-told irony about just how much of a liquor-soaked mess one had to be to get kicked out of Drive-By Truckers. Isbell is a few years into his solo career, and a little bit into his second marriage, to Shires, before he goes into treatment … preceded by one last blowout show in which he got drunker than he’d ever been on stage. Manager Traci Thomas lent her secret DVD of that night to Jones, saying she’d always held it in her archives in case a relapse called for a “Scared Straight” moment, and that footage makes its ugly — but fascinating — premiere here.

The third act more or less takes as its theme their relationship in recovery, without quite letting on just how much danger it ever was or wasn’t in; a marriage, like a woman, has gotta keep some secrets. It’s also about the boredom of the pandemic, which may not be the subject every viewer is most eager to revisit in a documentary right now. The film could have gone off the rails as a documentary because Jones had to resort to sending the couple high-def cameras to shoot their own monologues, alongside the remote press he was doing to promote “Reunions,” to finish out the film project. (It does not go far into the future; the new album Isbell has coming out this June was not yet a gleam in anyone’s eye when filming wrapped.) Happily, they re-bonded, somehow, over quarantine frustrations, unlike the couples they’re well aware of whose problems became exacerbated by being mutual shut-ins. They sure would be delighted by each other’s company, ultimately … even in, or especially in, the concentrated doses a pandemic demanded.

The subtitle of the movie almost feels like a misnomer, although it nicely echoes the title of that track of Isbell’s. Whatever else you might say of Isbell, or Shires, in the best or worst of times, proceeding with closed eyes doesn’t feel like a problem. The doc could almost have a different subtitle, taking a cue from the Wilco film: “We Are Trying to Mend Our Hearts.” You might actually feel it doing a small reparation job on yours.

At first, when suburban mom Kristin gets the mysterious call to head to Italy to settle the affairs of a dead relative, she protests she’s too busy. Then she realizes there’s not much keeping her: Her son is off to college, her job is dead-end, and her husband? He’s cheating with the school guidance counselor.

So why not treat herself to a me-focused trip, a la Julia Roberts? Maybe an “Eat, Pray, Love” trip, muses Kristin (Toni Collette), to which her friend (Sophie Nomvete) replies that what she really needs, bluntly, is to “Eat, Pray, $%&$.”

Soon that’s the slogan for her trip. It also would a great alternative title for “Mafia Mamma,” if they could get away with it. And really, they try to get away with most everything else.

That includes some cringe-worthy slapstick, some Tarantino-level violence, and also every Italian stereotype you can imagine (Grape-stomping? Check. Gelato, gnocchi and cannoli? Check. Speaking of cannoli: “The Godfather?” Check. Stanley Tucci’s food show? Check!) Some of this is to be expected, but “Mafia Mamma,” directed by Catherine Hardwicke, is over-saturated with shtick. And in a script which seeks to empower its protagonist by having her don a tight dress and commit murder with a stiletto heel to the groin (and eyeball), the goriest death is by cliché. Nobody escapes it.

Not even the wonderfully versatile Collette, who does yeoman’s work selling the increasingly repetitive plot developments, especially in the latter half, and maintaining sympathy for her character, who’s such a wide-eyed fish out of water, she’s never even seen “The Godfather” (a running joke, which like many jokes here is funny the first time).

The opening scenes are promising. We begin with always-welcome Monica Bellucci, as hardened consiglieri Bianca, surveying a crime scene full of dead bodies, including her boss Giuseppe Balbano, and declaring: “This is war.” Soon, Kristin gets Bianca’s call about grandad, whom she never knew. Kristin grew up in America and always assumed grandad was a vintner or (and Tony Soprano was in waste management…).

Soon Kristin arrives in Rome, ready to eat, pray and you-know-what. (After all, her husband’s you-know-whatting with the guidance counselor, who has one of the film’s funnier lines when she says, caught in the act: “I want you to know I’m a feminist!”) It seems like the you-know-what is about to happen quickly for Kristin too, because an impossibly handsome guy just happens to show up at the airport and take her number.

At the funeral, Kristin narrowly escapes death when the procession itself is attacked by the rival family (a cascade of oranges running down the cobblestoned street is a clever “Godfather” reference, until the joke gets tired). At the family home, she’s shown a video message designating her as the successor. She tries to flee, but Bianca tells her she can’t run from her destiny.

And so the film chronicles her making peace with that destiny, even if peace means severing a few eyeballs from their sockets along the way.

Not that Kristin becomes evil or anything. Most of her bad deeds are done by accident or in self-defense. But the worst deed of all is that the movie can’t decide what it wants her, or itself, to be. It’s not fully slapstick comedy — wine-stomping scenes aside — and hardly a serious crime saga.

Most of all, it seems to want to tell a story of female empowerment; at one point Kristin is reminded to never let a man dictate who she can be or what she can do. Nice message, but it’s muddled. Who exactly is dictating? Surely not her husband, a caricature of a doofus.

And so, despite some satisfying moments, by the increasingly cringe-worthy last third of the movie you’re just annoyed that it seems to want to cover all bases — to have its, er, cannoli and eat it, too. Maybe Kristin should just eat, pray, you-know-what, and head on home.

“Mafia Mamma,” a Bleecker Street release, has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America “for bloody violence, sexual content and language.” Running time: 101 minutes. Two stars out of four.

After a massive year in 2022 with back-to-back buzzworthy performances in “X” and “Pearl,” Mia Goth has added a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to her resume, joining Marvel’s “Blade.”

The Marvel Studios film stars Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as the title vampire slayer, directed by Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country,” “White Boy Rick”) from a script by Emmy nominee Michael Starrbury, which is said to be “darker than most MCU movies.” Goth joins a star-studded cast that also includes Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo, but details of her role are being kept under wraps.

The “Blade” reboot was first announced at the 2019 Comic-Con, where Marvel Studio chief Kevin Feige surprised Hall H by announcing Ali would take up the mantle of the infamous daywalker after Wesley Snipes played the Marvel Comics character in three films between 1998 and 2006.

“Blade” is currently slated to hit theaters on Sept. 6, 2024 as the final film in Phase Five of the MCU.

Since making her big screen debut in Lars von Trier’s “Nymphomaniac,” Goth has been a standout player in films like Luca Guadagnino’s “Suspiria,” Claire Denis’ “High Life,” Autumn de Wilde’s “Emma” and Branden Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool,” which made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Goth is next set to close out her work in Ti West’s horror trilogy for A24 with the release of “MaXXXine.” In the ‘70s-set “X,” Goth played dual roles: a young woman named Maxine, an aspiring adult film star whose cast mates and crew are brutally murdered over the course of the slasher movie, and an elderly woman named Pearl. The sequel, “Pearl,” which Goth co-wrote with West, serves as an origin story for the title serial killer set in 1918. “MaXXXine” presents the aftermath as Maxine, the lone survivor of the first film’s brutal murders, sets off to make it as an actor in 1980s Los Angeles.

In January, Goth reflected on her experience with the trilogy, as it became a pop-culture phenomenon, with a 9-minute monologue that left many wondering if she could land Oscar consideration.

“Pearl has fundamentally changed me as a performer,” Goth told Variety. “It’s given me a whole new sense of self and a whole new level of confidence in terms of what I think I am able to do.”

About the trilogy’s final film, she teased: “It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”

“MaXXXine” is currently in production, with Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon rounding out the cast. And “Blade” isn’t the only high-profile project on Goth’s horizon; she is also reportedly circling a role opposite Andrew Garfield and Oscar Isaac in Guillermo del Toro’s live-action “Frankenstein” movie for Netflix.

Goth is represented by WME and Curtis Brown.

Deadline was first to report news of her casting. Marvel had no comment.

After a massive year in 2022 with

The new trailer for The Marvels received a large number of dislikes from fans since being posted online.

Some recent MCU projects like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk have been subjected to discriminatory hate from a group of fans.

To express their opinions, these people often resort to review-bombing a movie or television series – sometimes even dislike-bomb a project’s trailer on YouTube – in an attempt to make its overall score lower.

Fans Dislike-Bomb The Marvels Trailer

Marvel

A new trailer for The Marvels was recently released, and since it publicly hit platforms such as YouTube, angry fans dislike-bombed it as a form of protest.

The trailer, which garnered 7.6M views in just 11 hours, received 214K dislikes on Marvel Entertainment’s YouTube channel, compared to 318K likes.

Many fans that are review-bombing The Marvels‘ trailer seem to be attempting to make a political statement, expressing that Marvel Studios is “woke” due to the film revolving around three female heroes.

One comment on the YouTube post comes from __THE_UFO__, claiming that the footage is full of “wokeness:”

“With great wokeness comes great brokeness and fatigue.”

YouTube user lordsith8319 also expressed their anger, saying, “Excellent just what nobody wanted.”

Imprime spitefully expressed their hope for the film to “flop:”

“Barely made it through the trailer. Can’t wait for the reviews when it flops, it will be hilarious.”

These fans may claim that they are fairly flooding the trailer because they genuinely think that the quality is bad. However, other trailers that have been criticized such as Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Morbius did not get nearly as many dislikes on YouTube.

For example, the trailer for Shazam 2 wasn’t necessarily seen as a great teaser, only received 11K dislikes on the video platform despite it having 18M views.

The trailer for Morbius, which was one of the most criticized comic book films of the past 20 years, also only received 11K dislikes with 24M views on the video.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law also suffered the same dislike-bombing that The Marvels currently is. Its trailer on YouTube received 302K dislikes with 25M views.

She-Hulk dislike-bombing

It is important to remember that She-Hulk also received a lot of backlash during its marketing campaign for the same reasons The Marvels is – fans claiming political “wokeness.”

Unfair Hate for Groundbreaking MCU Projects

It is safe to say that the group of fans who are dislike-bombing the new trailer for The Marvels are simply just trying to make a statement instead of fairly praising or criticizing the content that is being produced.

Unfortunately, just like She-Hulk, the project is being set up to fail by fans who now view the MCU through a biased political lens.

This not only continues to build a stronger barrier between fans of the franchise but also unfairly impacts all of the hardworking people that are making The Marvels possible.

Instead of celebrating the fact that three powerful characters will be on-screen together and have the potential to deliver a compelling story, some fans have already decided to bury the film and tarnish its legacy before it even gets a chance.

The Marvels is set to be released in theaters on November 10.

Collin Farrell’s Penguin is getting his own streaming series, The Penguin, following the events of The Batman, but it’s unclear if Pattinson’s Dark Knight will appear to stop him. Batman and Penguin had an intense run-in in The Batman that set up a future rivalry, but it’s unclear if that will come to fruition in The Penguin or the upcoming The Batman – Part II.

The DC Universe is in unprecedented times as the old DCEU gives way to the Gunn and Saffran-led DC Universe, but the main continuity films and streaming series will also run alongside various non-canon Elseworlds projects. A major part of this label is director Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, which, after the release of The Penguin, will cover both the big and small screen. While Penguin wasn’t the primary antagonist of The Batman, Farrell’s portrayal of Gotham’s crime boss garnered significant praise. The Penguin‘s recently released In-Production Teaser confirms that the HBO Max streaming series will maintain the polish and look of Reeves’ feature film.

Robert Pattinson’s Batman Is Rumored To Be In The Penguin Show

Nothing has yet been confirmed, but rumors from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast suggest that Pattinson’s Batman will appear in The Penguin opposite Collin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot. Details beyond that have been scarce, but Batman’s appearance would make sense. The Penguin is being confidently marketed as “The next chapter in The Batman saga,” implying that the story will very much play a significant role in the film franchise and not be a skippable side story. It’s hard to imagine that happening without Bruce Wayne at least making an appearance.

How Batman Could Fit Into The Penguin Show’s Story

Robert Pattinson's Batman and Colin Farrell's Penguin in The Batman

The Penguin will follow Oswald Cobblepot’s rise to kingpin status in the immediate aftermath of The Batman, so there are several ways in which Batman could logically appear. While it’s unlikely that Pattinson will have a large or reoccurring role given his lack of presence in any of the marketing so far, Batman will surely want to appear to try and stop the blossoming criminal empire. Given that the two already met in The Batman, Bruce already knows who Oswald is, who he associates with, and what he looks like. Tracking him down shouldn’t be too hard for the world’s greatest detective.

Alternately, with Bruce understanding that fear isn’t the only way to help Gotham at the end of The Batman, it’s possible that he could try and stop Penguin as a civilian. As a well-known Gothamite and the head of Wayne Enterprises, showing Bruce as he tries to use social and economic pressure to fight crime would explore a facet of Bruce’s heroism that’s been hitherto underexplored in live-action. Either way, The Penguin looks to be telling a gritty crime drama story that can stand on its own without the direct involvement of any superheroes. Time will tell if Bruce Wayne can help combat the growing organized crime in The Penguin.

With all these remakes coming out in the last few years, it should come as no surprise when a company announces a remake of a popular game, but Persona 3? Have we even heard about this until now when there’s footage out? After coasting on the good vibes and success that have come from Persona 5 Royal, is P-Studio really rallying up to the remake hype?

Regarding the Leaked Game Footage

Sega and Atlus experienced some major breaches by way of the leaked footage of not just a possible Persona 3 Remake, but a revamped Jet Set Radio and more footage behind Sonic Frontiers. This clip has been rotating around the internet over the last few days with people scrambling to figure out if it is true or not. As far as Sega or Atlus addressing the claims, they’ve been pretty quiet on their front and will likely not disclose anything until they have the public forum to do so. With events lined up for the summer, we may just hear some more gaming news straight from the publishers themselves.

How Likely Are We to Get a Persona 3 Remake?

Is it possible? Is it true? It is actually more likely than you think. Not to get your hopes up, but Sega and Atlus especially have been making waves to make a point of steering the limelight on their Persona lineup. Not only has Persona 5 Royal made them incredibly popular but, as of this year in January, they had released Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable to run on more user-friendly platforms so that players can experience these games again. This may be because they want to generate hype for those games that have existed for years but have been limited to their previous consoles.

Let’s be clear, it may still be some time before we actually see the release of a Persona 3 Remake, but to receive official news that they are working on it? It would be sure to rile up Persona fans everywhere! Another possible indicator is that it is already confirmed that the game developers have been working on remakes as well as Persona 6. Though they may just trade up further developing Persona 6 in exchange for carrying on the hype of the many remakes that have been coming out and selling well.

Between the publishers amping up their old games to keep up the excitement about the Persona games along with confirmed intel about Atlus and P-Studio working on Persona 6, we may just be looking at a chance to see one of the best Persona games to be seeing their remake in the near future!

Have you seen the footage yourself? It looks fairly real in terms of their new style that has been adopted in Persona 5, but I’ve seen fan-made animations that have proven to be quite detailed and well-animated. Take a look and make your bets now!

Kabir Cultural Centre presents

South Asian Film Festival of Montréal, 12th edition

In cinemas and online

Festival opening feature, Oscar-nominated All That Breathes

In cinemas Friday, April 28 – Sunday, May 7 &

Online May 1-10, 2023

Kabir Cultural Centre, along with festival Director and Head of Programming, Syeda Nayab Bukhari, is pleased to announce the 12th edition of the South Asian Film Festival of Montréal (SAFFMontréal) in collaboration with Cinémathèque Québécoise and Ville de Saguenay. This year’s awaited festival will be both in cinemas and online, along with live Q&As from around the world. A platform for filmmakers of South Asian origin worldwide, the festival presents an eclectic choice of inspiring and thought-provoking films with a focus on the South Asian region and its diaspora.  Every screening is subtitled in English and French. Film enthusiasts can look forward to 58 award-winning films from 12 countries. Short, long, documentary and feature selections are all up for juried awards. This 12th edition takes place April 28-May 10.  Many films are available for free, including opening night All That Breathes at the Grande Bibliothèque, an award-winner both at Cannes and Sundance and an Oscar- nominee. This is the only film festival of its kind in Quebec.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are driving forces behind the festival’s film choices. Audiences are introduced to films they would never have the chance to see elsewhere, as well as acclaimed films like Jhini Bini Chadariya (The Brittle Thread), Joyland and All That Breathes. Sivan Spector, star of the beautiful Jhini Bini Chadariya will be in Montreal to present the movie and moderate the discussion following. A number of  filmmakers will be in attendance including the filmmakers of Bajre Da Sitta and award-winning Indian American, Meghna Damani, making it a memorable experience for festival goers.

In addition to entries from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Mauritius, Norway, Czech Republic, UK, Canada and the USA, every year the festival showcases films from neighbouring South Asian countries.  This year there are outstanding films from Iran and Türkiye.

Speaking to the selection of films at the festival, Bukhari said, “We are proud to bring such a diverse lineup of stimulating films that challenge stereotypes and shed light on the complex social and political issues facing South Asia today, as well as its rich and varied cultures. One example is films that highlight gender-based oppression and its consequences for women in certain countries.” Creating a space for meaningful dialogue and exchange is important to Bukhari, “We believe that film has the power to spark social change; we hope our festival inspires audiences to take action and create a more just and equitable world.”

This 12th edition of the festival continues its presentation of world-class films about the lives of South Asians in languages as varied as Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Kashmiri, Bodo, Marathi, Assamese, Nepali, Malayalam, Punjabi, Persian, Turkish, Kannada, Czech, Chinese, Norwegian, English and French. Film themes are rich and wide-ranging, with newsworthy current topics highlighting immigration and displacement, LGBTQ+ issues, religious freedom, women’s rights, aging and the generation gap, the environment, gender parity, parenthood, various art forms and the struggles of rural life. Divergent styles spanning almost 60 films include documentary, animation, drama, science fiction and humour.

TK Raghunathan, long-time president of SAFFMontréal is delighted with the way the festival is growing, “This important annual event is gaining wider audiences every year. We have now brought it forward from the greyness of late autumn to the cheer and light of the mid-spring season,” said Raghunathan. “Well-known filmmakers are eager to have their films shown here; our closing film Joyland was the first Pakistani film to premiere at Cannes Film Festival where it received a standing ovation, as well as the Jury Prize and Queer Palm prize for best LGBTQ-relevant film. Witness is a scathing indictment of state-sponsored racial profiling and Islamophobia in the U.S. that will provoke discussion.”

Some of the top-notch online films to be enjoyed from anywhere are Gauri, highlighting the vulnerability of journalists in India; Chavittu, a thought-provoking satire juxtaposing earnest folk theatre with the bourgeois values and behaviour of society’s middle class; and Transkashmir, about the difficulties facing transgender people in Kashmir.

South Asian Film Festival of Montréal is committed to showcasing new and artistic work that promotes discussion and explores the world; aiming to entertain, inform and empower audiences.  The festival holds up a mirror to events happening outside one’s sphere by organizing post-screening audience talkbacks with filmmakers and distinguished panelists.

EXCLUSIVE: After spending the past year terrifying audiences and wowing critics, Pearl and X star Mia Goth looks ready to take her talents to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as sources tell Deadline she is set to join Mahershala Ali in Marvel Studios’ Blade.

Yann Demange is set to direct the pic, with Michael Starrbury on board to write the script and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing. Ali is starring in the titular role.

Marvel could not be reached for comment.

Plot details are unknown at this time as well as who Goth would be playing.

Plans for a new incarnation of the Blade character, played by Wesley Snipes in a string of movies in the early 2000s, were revealed during Marvel’s senses-shattering presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019.

Created as a supporting character by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Blade first appeared in Tomb of Dracula No. 10 in 1973, becoming a cult favorite. He is a human-vampire hybrid thanks to his mother being bitten and killed by a blood-sucker during childbirth. The character became a star in the ’90s when New Line adapted the comic with Snipes on board to star, with two sequels following the hit movie.

Goth is coming off a stellar year that started with the A24 horror pic X, with the sequel Pearl premiering a few months later. Goth stars in both but is front and center in Pearl, where she gave such a stellar performance that award pundits began discussing a potential Best Actress candidate. She also earned strong reviews in the Sundance Midnight pic Infinity Pool.

Next up she can be seen in the final installment of the X series, MaXXXine, which bows later this year and is also in talks to co-star in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein pic.

Goth is repped by WME, Curtis Brown Group and attorney Michael Auerbach.

Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen, the stars of 2018’s “Book Club,” reunite and travel overseas in the trailer for “Book Club: The Next Chapter.”

The comedy from Focus Features will follow the quartet of lifelong friends Diane (Keaton), Vivian (Fonda), Sharon (Bergen) and Carol (Steenburgen) as they take their book club overseas to Italy. But their relaxing getaway turns into a wild adventure when the trip goes off the rails at a bachelorette party, bringing secrets to light.

“The older the vines, the sweeter the fruit,” Diane says in the trailer, which you can watch at the top of this post. “My solo act is finally coming to a close,” Vivian added.

Andy Garcia, Don Johnson, Craig T. Nelson, Giancarlo Giannini, Hugh Quarshie and Vincent Riotta also star in the sequel.

The first “Book Club” film introduced the four leading ladies as they navigated the dating scene and read “Fifty Shades of Gray” together. The first film grossed $68 million domestically from a $13.5 million opening weekend and $104 million worldwide.

“Book Club” director Bill Holderman directed the sequel, re-teaming with co-writer Erin Simms who wrote the script and produced as well. Brad Weston, Trish Hofmann, Enzo Sisti and Andrew Duncan will executive produce.

Apple TV+’s musical theater comedy is back for a second season with the same cast and a very different setting. Welcome to… Schmicago? Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) escaped Schmigadoon with their relationship stronger than ever, but a few years pass and the monotony and disappointment of their lives leave them wanting to return. However, just like Brigadoon, you can’t go back. Instead, they find themselves in Schmicago, a smoky, dark, dreary town full of familiar faces with different personalities. Where season 1 of Schmigadoon! parodied musicals of the Golden Age (1940s and 1950s), season 2 goes for the darker and edgier musicals of the 1960s and 1970s where it’s all Fosse, all the time. Goodbye, Rodgers and Hammerstein; hello, Kander and Ebb! Season two, so far, is just as great as season one — if not better. Everyone is pitch perfect, from Key and Strong, whose chemistry has only grown, and Aaron Tveit, parodying a new kind of leading man, to series newcomer Titus Burgess, a standout as the narrator (because, of course, musicals of this era tended to have a narrator move the story along). In two episodes, the show has already taken noticeable influence from Chicago, Hair, Pippin, Cabaret, and A Chorus Line with original songs that’ll get stuck in your head, and teased elements of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Godspell, and Annie still to come. Theater kids, you won’t want to miss this one.

Jennifer Garner put an uptown spin on the little black dress for a recent talk show appearance, and she’s truly glowing.

Visiting New York City for a taping of The Late Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the 13 Going on 30 star wore a simple, strapless, below-the-knee column cocktail dress of black fabric covered in beads or studs. Considering that Garner is one of the more modest A-listers, this is basically her version of club gear.

Aside from a couple of rings and simple diamond loops for her ears, she ditched accessories, opting for plain black stilettos and No Coat, No Purse (that’s how you know you’ve made it, right? When someone else carries literally all your stuff). With her bob tousled to one side and a bit of a smoky eye, this look on Jen is truly…so hot.

MEGA

No shade at all, but Garner almost always opts for something classy and, by Hollywood standards at least, conservative. She had a Sexy Era in her Alias days, but check out this roundup of her most “daring” looks. They are all very beautiful and very normal. So when I say this is the sparkliest I’ve seen her in a minute, I mean it.

Will the real Captain Marvel please stand up? The first Captain Marvel appeared on the pages of Whiz Comics in 1939, and his first film adaptation came in William Witney and John English’s Adventures of Captain Marvel in 1941. Their version of Cap was Republic Pictures’ first superhero comic book adaptation in their collection of 66 film serials. But how does it hold up?

Our tale opens on an archaeological expedition of the Scorpion Kingdom in Siam’s Valley of the Tombs. A group of scholars and archaeologists, along with junior explorer Billy Batson (Frank Coghlan Jr.), are about the enter a forbidden temple. Warned of a sacred curse, Billy decides it’s wrong to desecrate this ancient tomb and plunder a foreign land’s treasures (ah, colonialism). Nevertheless, he insists on staying behind.

The explorers uncover a powerful device known as the Golden Scorpion. It has the structure of a scorpion. When a series of lenses are aligned perfectly on the Scorpion, it creates a powerful energy beam that can be used as a weapon and even transfigures other metals into gold. Realizing its destructive power, the team decides to take a piece of the Scorpion and hide it from one another.

“Because of Billy’s virtuous character…the wizard bestows upon Billy the powers of Shazam.”

Meanwhile, Billy finds himself in the presence of a powerful being known as Shazam (Nigel De Brulier). Because of Billy’s virtuous character for not entering the temple, the wizard bestows upon Billy the powers of Shazam. When Billy utters the name “Shazam,” he is transformed into Captain Marvel (Tom Tyler)—a heroic figure who is given the Wisdom of Solomon, Strength of Hercules, Stamina of Atlas…” You know the rest.

When the expedition returns to America, one by one, the archeologists are murdered by the villainous Scorpion and his henchmen. The industrious Billy Batson, with the help of his colleagues, Betty Wallace (Louise Currie), Whitey Murphy (William Benedict), and the powerful Shazam, investigates the murders and, ultimately, the Scorpion’s plans of world domination.

Now jump to 2023. For obvious reasons, it’s almost unfair to compare the 1941 version of Captain Marvel to the modern DCEU adaptation. Yes, special effects are much better. Streaking across the sky is a Captain Marvel mannequin hung on wires. Also, the powers of Shazam and the Scorpion are aided by well-time sparks and smoke bombs. Pretty on part with the 1940s…50s…60s…70s…and so on. Also, the current Shazam leans much more into his fantasy lore.

A big health care ask to the province from Lethbridge, Alta., Mayor Blaine Hyggen is getting the green light.

The UCP announced Wednesday $2 million will be provided for the design of a catheterization lab at Chinook Regional Hospital.

When Budget 2023 was unveiled in February, Hyggen expressed disappointment the lab wasn’t included.

“I just thought we were left out on something in particular. That was the health side of things and that was a cardiac facility,” Hyggen said.

“I’m happy that it’s here and excited to go forward.”

‘A little disappointed’: Lethbridge mayor reacts to Alberta budget 2023

Lethbridge-East MLA Nathan Neudorf said the funding was always part of the budget, but wasn’t specified at the time because additional functional planning was needed.

Story continues below advertisement

“That’s where it landed when we were in a budget process, so it was inappropriate to put it in as a line item,” Neudorf said.

“After the budget passed, that work was completed and we were able to allocate the dollars we needed to the design process.”

But the opposition calls the announcement “invisible money.”

“This money does not exist in the budget,” said Lethbridge-West NDP MLA Shannon Phillips.

“It is not in the voted amounts in any way, shape or form and this is just another way for (the UCP) to make a false promise.”

“It’s not invisible money,” said Neudorf. “It’s in the budget and it’s going to be allocated for this project.”

Lethbridge NDP candidates Phillips and Rob Miyashiro made their own cardiac health care promise Wednesday.

If elected, the NDP says it will spend $20 million to support new interventional cardiac services and enable catheterization at Chinook Regional Hospital.

“This is a real commitment based on what we know over a period of years from the studies that have already been done and listening carefully to the community,” Phillips said.

But Neudorf has his own doubts about the opposition’s figures.

“$20 million is a promise based on what design? Based on what requirements for this?” Neudorf said.

“It’s just a number that’s been pulled out of the air.”

The UCP doesn’t have a firm timeline for when the catheterization lab will be operational, but Neudorf estimates design could take six to eight months, with another one to three years for construction.

Jessica Simpson, 42, was a gorgeous sight to see in her latest set of Instagram photos. The singer rocked a highly fashionable outfit that included a green jacket over a black tank top and black leather pants that flared out at the bottoms. She also added chunky black boots and had her long blonde hair down as aviator-style sunglasses sat atop her head.

The beauty was posing in what appeared to be an outdoor roof area and looked confident. She accessorized with multiple necklaces as she put one hand on her hip, in one of the snapshots. A second photo showed her husband, Eric Johnson, 43, joining her as he posed in a gray T-shirt and baseball cap.

“There’s no expiration date to a dream?,” Jessica wrote in the caption. The post received a lot of responses in the comments section. “the most beautiful woman in this world ❤️❤️,” one fan wrote, while another complimented her pants. A third fan wrote, “outfit goals” and many more left heart-eyed emojis.

Shortly after Jessica shared her latest set of photos, she posted more of herself in a brown sleeveless dress and black boots. She struck various poses as her hair was wavy and down. She also held a big gold purse and wore sunglasses. “Dreamweaver show me the way ?,” she wrote alongside the post. It received just as much attention as her previous photos.

Jessica’s new social media pics come almost a month after she made headlines for revealing her youngest daughter Birdie‘s singing talents, in a post. “Birdie girl is my loud belting beauty with a set of set of lungs and a vocal box that could quite possibly bust mics and speaker,” she wrote in the caption for a set of cute family photos that showed her holding the mini me, who wore braids in her hair. “Very familiar if I do say so myself.” Jessica is also the mother of daughter Maxwell, 10, and son Ace, 9.

“Infinity Pool” actress Mia Goth has joined the cast of Mahershala Ali’s “Blade,” according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

Yann Demange, a French-Algerian filmmaker whose previous credits include Jack O’Connell’s “71” and Matthew McConaughey’s “White Boy Rick,” is attached to direct the vampire-killing actioner.

Michael Starrbury, who has penned episodes of Netflix and Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” and “Colin in Black and White,” wrote the latest draft of the screenplay.

Assuming all goes well from here, production will begin in Atlanta in early 2023. While the film will reportedly be darker than a stereotypical Marvel romp, the extent this film will straddle the line between the safely PG-13 MCU entries and New Line Cinema’s original hard-R trilogy with Wesley Snipes remains to be seen.

When Stephen Norrington’s “Blade” debuted in 1998, it was mostly sold and generally embraced (good reviews, solid buzz and $131 million worldwide on a $45 million budget) as an R-rated, martial-arts infused Snipes vehicle that just happened to be based on a Marvel comic book. While the film is credited with being Marvel’s first major theatrical success (following whiffs like “The Punisher” in 1989 and “Howard the Duck” in 1986), it was positioned as a star-driven genre flick first and a comic book adaptation second.

It spawned two sequels, Guillermo del Toro’s well-received “Blade II” ($155 million on a $55 million budget weeks before Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man’ swung into the record books in 2002) and David Goyer’s less-beloved “Blade: Trinity” ($132 million on a $62 million budget) in 2004. A loosely-connected one-season television show starring Kirk Jones as Blade ran on SpikeTV in 2006.

Goth is repped by WME, Curtis Brown Group and Storm Artists Management.

Deadline first reported the news.

Marvel had no comment.

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first look at Pacific, the ensemble Spanish language sci-fi thriller starring Colombian actor Manolo Cardona (Who Killed Sara?, Narcos, and The Snitch Cartel).

The pic, a Colombian-Argentinan co-production, is currently in post and was made with a budget of around $10M. FilmSharks has launched pre-sales and will debut footage and promotional materials at the forthcoming Cannes market.

Argentinian filmmaker Gonzalo Gutierrez ‘G.G.’ directed the film, which follows a group of young travelers stranded on an island in the Pacific where they struggle to escape an evil presence that has been kept hidden from humans for centuries. Gutierrez has had an extensive VFX career, working on projects like Gonzalo Tobal’s 2018 Venice title The Accused and the Colombian drama sci-fi drama Cumbia Ninja. The filmmaker is now also in production on the animated feature film Giants Of La Mancha with writer Carlos Kotkin (Rio 2).

The cast of Pacific is rounded out by Maria Gabriela de Faria (The Exorcism of God), Ricardo Abarca (Miss Bala), Christopher Von Uckermann (How to Break Up with Your Douchebag), Claudio Cataño (Thousand Fangs), and Maria Nela Sinisterra (Corazon de Leon).

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra recorded the music for the film’s score. The Orchestra has a long cinematic history, with company musicians working extensively on scores such as the Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit series. John Neill of Peter Jackson’s post-production house Park Road Studio served as recording producer and score mixer. The film’s main theme was also recorded at Park Road with Kiwi singer-composer Caii-Michelle Baker on vocals in collaboration with Argentinian music composer Pablo Borghi.

Pacific was produced by Mauricio Brunetti’s Patagonia Films alongside Guido Rud’s FilmSharks. Brunetti’s credits include Corazon de Leon by Marcos Carnevale and Dark Blood by Harold Trompetero, starring Joe Leguizamo (Carlito’s Way). Rud, a prolific producer, has over 30 credits, including Universal’s remake of Alejandro Amenabar’s 2001 Golden Globe-nominated horror pic The Others and Paramount’s English-language remake of the Paraguayan cult classic Morgue.

Pacific was partially funded by the Colombian film entity Proimagenes and the Argentine film institute INCAA. Production took place on location in the Colombian capital of Bogota and the coastal region of Choco, with post-production now based in Buenos Aires.

Announcing the pic, Rud said he and the production team are currently working on the film’s VFX and plan to deliver the pic “by the end of the year.”

“This is one of the films that sell out before you even have the delivery of the materials because everybody is chasing it now,” he said.

Gutierrez added: “I strongly believe that Pacific is very likely to be a ‘before’ and ‘after’ in the latín American genre cinema.”

The country singer also sang a Ukrainian folk song and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky

Brad Paisley joined a delegation of U.S. senators on a trip to Ukraine, where he performed in Kyiv’s Saint Michael’s Square and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The trip came just a month after Paisley marked the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a new song, “Same Here,” that featured a conversation with Zelensky. During his impromptu acoustic performance, Paisley played “Same Here,” as well as a Ukrainian folk song.

Paisley shared a video of his performance on Instagram, writing, “Emotional experience seeing all this first hand. So much more to share.” (A snippet of his rendition of the folk song was also shared on Twitter by former Zelensky advisor, Igor Novikov).

Paisley’s work around the war in Ukraine has been part of his role as an ambassador for United24, a fundraising campaign that will help build housing for displaced Ukrainians whose homes have been destroyed. Paisley’s portion of the royalties from “Same Here” are being donated to United24.

Along with Paisley, Senators Mark Kelly (D-Arizona), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), and Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) were also part of the trek and participated in a news conference in Saint Michael’s Square. Manchin and Paisley (who grew up in West Virginia) were photographed together with Zelensky, presenting him with a University of West Virginia baseball hat.

“Same Here” will appear on Paisley’s next album, Son of the Mountains, which will be his first under a new agreement with Universal Music Group Nashville. The LP will mark Paisley’s first full-length effort in six years, following 2017’s Love and War. A release date for the project hast yet to be announced.

Following the announcement that Frank Grillo has been cast as Rick Flag Sr in the DCU’s Creature Commandos animated series, the rest of the stacked cast have now been revealed. While there are some names that come as no surprise, and some returning players to the DCU, there are others who were probably not as expected.

As revealed by Collider, Grillo will be joined by Sean Gunn as Weasel and G.I. Robot, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos.

Of course, James Gunn has already made it clear that these actors will not only be portraying the characters in voice roles, but will also appear as their characters in any live action iterations that come in future. This raises many questions about where the characters could appear with in Gunn’s new DCU story, and there are obviously plenty of options with 25 projects reported to be in various stages of development.

The Creature Commandos collective will be a team who work under the command of Amanda Waller, very much like the Suicide Squad, and of course Viola Davis is set to make her return as Waller in her own solo series, but there is every chance that she will also have a role to play in the animated series as well.

Related: DCU’s Waller: Comic Book Storylines We Want to See

Creature Commandos Will Be A Central Part of The DCU’s Gods And Monsters Story

DC Studios/DC Comics

While there is currently a lot of focus on who will be playing the new interpretations of Superman and Batman in the new DCU, Creature Commandos is a big piece of what Gunn and Peter Safran are planning with their huge undertaking of bringing success back to the comic book franchise. While animated shows never seem to get the same attention as live-action movies and TV shows in the DCU and MCU, Gunn’s plan to ensure that there is continuity across all mediums, with the same actors playing their roles in everything from TV to video games, that could change with Creature Commandos.

For now there is no date known when Creature Commandos will be released on the newly branded Max, but it is one of the projects that Gunn previously said was quite a way along when interacting with fans on Twitter. The group of “monsters” are not one of the best known in the DC canon, but that is something that most likely drew Gunn to the project in the first place. Having brought the Guardians of the Galaxy from relative obscurity to being one of the biggest properties within the Marvel Universe, and already dipped into the Suicide Squad’s collective, Creature Commandos could be given the same kind of treatment in the coming years.

Now, with the cast of the DCU’s seven part animated show revealed, we can only wait for the series to arrive on Max sometime in the future.
