EXCLUSIVE: Emmy Award-winning actress Julie Bowen (Modern Family) will star in Peacock’s coming-of-age thriller Hysteria!
Bowen will play the role of Linda Campbell, the mother of a teenage outcast. Linda experiences a series of supernatural disturbances that force her to question everything she knows about her son, as well as the growing threat of Satanism in their small Midwestern town.
Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane,Hysteria! explores America’s dark history of mass hysteria through the shocking story of the teenage Satanic Panic. The series follows a group of 1980s high school misfits as they exploit the growing hysteria around teen occult activity.
Per the logline,When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.
The series will be produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Alongside Kane, John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner will also executive produce. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is set to direct the first episode.
Bowen is best known for her portrayal of Claire Dunphy in ABC’s hit comedy series Modern Family, a role that earned her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Additional TV credits include ER, Boston Legal and Lost. On the big screen, she’s appeared in Happy Gilmore, Multiplicity and Horrible Bosses, among others. She is repped by Liberman/Zerman Management and CAA.
The NFL’s Sunday Ticket is making its historic move to YouTube starting next season after Google’s rich, seven-year deal with the league. And unless gridiron fans act soon to take advantage of YouTube’s special early-bird pricing, they’ll have to pay more for the out-of-market games NFL package than when it was carried by DirecTV.
YouTube announced pricing for NFL Sunday Ticket, which is available as an add-on to YouTube TV subscribers as well as to anyone else in the U.S. through the standalone YouTube Primetime Channels. Starting Tuesday (April 11) through June 6, 2023, the Google-owned video platform is offering discounts for Sunday Ticket packages — knocking $100 off the regular full-season prices.
The regular pricing of Sunday Ticket for YouTube TV customers will be $349 for the 2023 season, higher than DirecTV’s $293.94 price tag for the 2022 season. And if you don’t have YouTube TV, you’ll pay even more. Whereas DirecTV typically required you to buy a satellite TV package to get Sunday Ticket, YouTube will sell the package on a standalone basis — and although you don’t need to a pay-TV subscription, it will cost $100 more per season than for YouTube TV subscribers. Note that the base price of YouTube TV recently jumped 12%, from $64.99/month to $72.99/month; meanwhile, ahead of the start of this year’s baseball season, the streamer dropped MLB Network.
Sunday Ticket includes all out-of-market Sunday regular-season NFL games that are broadcast on Fox and CBS, letting fans (or sports bettors) catch the action of every team live. That means that if you subscribe to YouTube TV and Sunday Ticket, you’ll be able to watch and/or record every single NFL game during the 2023 season.
YouTube is offering Sunday Ticket in two flavors: bundled with NFL RedZone (the league’s whip-around channel that shows every touchdown live on Sundays) and without it. Here’s a rundown of the pricing:
Sunday Ticket via YouTube TV: $349/season ($249 presale)
NFL RedZone also is available through YouTube TV’s Sports Plus add-on package ($10.99 per month), which among other channels includes Fox Soccer Plus and beIN Sports.
Google will reportedly pay the NFL between $2 billion and $2.5 billion per year for Sunday Ticket, up from the estimated $1.5 billion that DirecTV had been shelling out. The NFL licensed to Google the right to exclusively distribute Sunday Ticket through YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime Channels to residential consumers in the U.S. starting with the 2023 NFL season.
YouTube obviously would like to recoup what it’s paying for Sunday Ticket, but it’s looking at the deal in a broader context. Execs want the exclusive NFL package to drive YouTube TV signups, and they’re also hoping it will help YouTube capture a bigger share of TV ad spending.
YouTube is developing special new features for the 2023 NFL season, such as the ability to rewatch key plays as well as access NFL Fantasy data and real-time stats. Just prior to this year’s NCAA March Madness tournament, YouTube TV added a multiview feature — letting customers watch up to four channels simultaneously — which will appeal to Sunday Ticket viewers. (The platform says it’s working to bring key plays and multiview features to YouTube Primetime Channels as well.) YouTube also is working on adding shopping integrations so viewers can buy team merchandise and integrating social features such as live chats and polls.
Meanwhile, the NFL last month announced a multiyear deal with investment firm RedBird Capital Partners to form EverPass Media, which will hold exclusive rights to distribute Sunday Ticket to bars, restaurants, hotels and other commercial venues in the U.S. (through participating cable and satellite TV providers) starting with the 2023 season.
“Where’s my baby?” Jennifer Lopez’s character known only as The Mother asks in the first trailer for Netflix‘s forthcoming action film of the same name, which is set for a Mother’s Day weekend debut on May 12th.
“You wasted FBI time trying to cut a deal for yourself, and seven agents were killed. This conversation now takes place on our terms,” an FBI official played by Edie Falco tells her. “Adrian Lovell and Hector Álvarez are still out there. You and I both know the only way you protect that child is to disappear.”
And disappear, the former assassin does. “You put her with good people, keep her safe,” Lopez tells a trusted character played by Omari Hardwick. “If there’s trouble, you let me know.” Of course, trouble comes for her around 12 years later, as villains played by Joseph Fiennes and Gael García Bernal have her daughter (Lucy Paez) kidnapped, with Lopez being forced to come out of hiding to save this girl to whom she’s now a total stranger.
“I’m a killer, but I’m also a mother,” says Lopez. “And I will die protecting her.”
Niki Caro (Mulan) directed the pic, also starring Paul Raci, Jesse Garcia, Yvonne Senat Jones and more, from a script by Misha Green, Andrea Berloff and Peter Craig. Lopez and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas produced under Nuyorican Productions’ multi-year first-look production deal with Netflix, alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon for Vertigo, Green, Benny Medina and Marc Evans, with Molly Allen serving as the film’s executive producer.
Lopez most recently led the rom-coms Shotgun Wedding and Marry Me for Lionsgate/Amazon and Universal Pictures, respectively. She’ll next be seen in Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Atlas with Simu Liu, Sterlking K. Brown and more, and recently signed on to star in the Amazon drama Unstoppable from Artists Equity, the new production company of Matt Damon and her husband Ben Affleck.
Watch her in action as The Mother by clicking above.

Aishwarya Rai, Ayan Mukerji and Karan Johar ruled headlines on Tuesday. (Photos: Instagram)
From Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s viral video to Ayan Mukerji and Karan Johar’s alleged fallout; here are the top headlines of the day.
An alleged video of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan rolling her eyes at her husband Abhishek Bachchan and snapping at his niece Navya Naveli Nanda has surfaced on the internet. The video is being wildly shared on Reddit and has been grabbing many eyeballs. In the video, which appears to be taken at one of the Kabaddi matches of Abhishek’s team Jaipur Pink Panthers, Abhishek is seen telling Aishwarya something, but the actress seemingly “eye-rolls”.
Amid reports that Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji had a fallout over Brahmastra 2 and Brahmastra 3, a source told Hindustan Times that there is no truth to these rumours. This comes after it was reported that Ayan was taking the Ranbir Kapoor starrer franchise to another production house due to the tiff. The rumour stemmed from Ayan’s recent announcement about postponing the release of Brahmastra 2 and 3. The announcement did not feature Dharma Productions nor did Ayan tag Karan Johar. However, Ayan and Karan are yet to address the reports.
While the sequel of starrer Rowdy Rathore has been making headlines for a long time now, recent reports suggest that Sidharth Malhotra is being considered to play the lead in Rowdy Rathore 2. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the first part of the film was released in 2012 and featured Akshay Kumar in a dual role alongside Sonakshi Sinha. It is being said that if everything goes according to plan, Rowdy Rathore 2 will kick off by the end of May with a start-to-finish shoot schedule.

The performer’s official cause of death was “acute intoxication due to combined effects of fentanyl and cocaine,” the New York City medical examiner confirmed to Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. He was 60.
Vallelonga was pronounced dead at the scene in November after police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious man on the sidewalk in front of a Bronx sheet metal factory. Police then arrested Vallelonga’s driver, Bronx resident Steven Smith, on suspicion of concealing a human corpse.
Smith reportedly told authorities at the time that Vallelonga overdosed on drugs and that he “didn’t have anything to do with” his death.
Vallelonga appeared in “Green Book” as Rudy Vallelonga, a relative of Viggo Mortensen‘s bouncer character, Tony Lip. The period drama — which was based on Vallelonga’s father, Frank “Tony Lip” Vallelonga, and written by his brother, Nick Vallelonga — won the 2019 Oscars for original screenplay, supporting actor (Mahershala Ali) and best picture.
Police said a car with a license plate belonging to Nick Vallelonga was spotted at the scene where Frank Vallelonga Jr.’s body was dumped, according to reports.
Times staff writer Jonah Valdez contributed to this report.

Hot on the heels of the excellent collected edition of volume one, the second chapter of James Tynion IV’s take on The Sandman Universe, Nightmare Country: The Glass House #1 is finally here!
New York artist, Madison Flynn, has been murdered by the re-animated corpse of her best friend, Kelly, AKA “Kells”. Now, the reborn Corinthian, along with Madison’s spirit, are both on the trail of the deadly duo behind Kelly’s murder, Mr. Agony and Mr. Ecstasy.
The two rogue nightmares killed Madison, and others, because they could see a new nightmare, The Smiling Man, during waking hours. More troubling still, this nightmare was seemingly not a creation of Dream. To add even more fuel to the fire, it seems that Agony and Ecstasy had been commissioned to commit these murders by Desire, Dream’s younger sibling and frequent adversary.
Madison has been granted new flesh by Death of The Endless, at her brother Dream’s behest. Neither one seem to know of Desire’s involvement at this moment in time.
Positives
Nightmare Country‘s back! Thankfully Lisandro Estherren, Patricio Delpeche, and Simon Bowland have returned, alongside James Tynion. This issue cleverly picks up exactly where issues 5 and 6 left off, adding new characters to the tale and, by the end of the book, bringing back yet another huge presence from Neil Gaiman’s original Sandman run. We also meet another old “friend” from the classic “The Doll’s House” saga, again.
There are still people out there who have also seen The Smiling man, and we can only wonder how long it will be before Agony and Ecstasy will be on their trail. Add a whole ton of supernatural intrigue, clubs that no one should want to be a member of, and the return of Kells, and Nightmare Country: The Glass House #1 is one super loaded comic book!
It may be hard to believe, but the art and colors by Lisandro and Patricio have actually improved since volume one. This issue looks amazing, and Madison’s new form made me very happy indeed. The nods to the first arc are wonderful, and the love for the entire Sandman Universe, as created by Neil Gaiman, is palpable.
Simon Bowland also continues to impress with his letters, particularly when they clearly differentiate humans from angels, demons, and Endless.
Negatives
I do not have a single complaint… apart from the fact that the tension’s killing me!
Verdict
The fact that DC is releasing this issue on the same day as the hardcover and trade paperback collections of Nightmare Country volume 1 is genius. Anyone who didn’t pick up the first issue series should march down to the nearest purveyor of fine sequential storytelling, and pick up their collected edition of choice (though the hardcover comes with a stunning portrait of Death, by the wonderful Jenny Frison, while the paperback edition doesn’t). They should grab Nightmare Country: The Glass House #1 at the same time.

In terms of diversity and inclusion, is Hollywood actually making big strides or is the industry regressing? As a writer, are you allowing yourself to be unique and original, or do you rely only on mimicking what has already been done?
In today’s episode, No Film School’s GG Hawkins, Jason Hellerman, and Yaro Altunin discuss:
Ballooning budgets, fewer buyers, and tighter mandates for commercial movies has meant hard times for more challenging original stories.
When “Summer of Soul” sold for $15 million out of the 2021 pandemic-virtual Sundance Film Festival, we saw the peak of the documentary boom. Questlove’s feature debut was a Sundance record, but it wasn’t alone; other Sundance docs like “Fire of Love” and “Flee” sold for high-seven figures.
Today, Sundance 2023 premiere “It’s Only Life After All,” which included its subjects the Indigo Girls performing at the festival’s Opening Night fundraiser, has yet to find a buyer. Ditto “Going Varsity in Mariachi,” “The Disappearance of Shere Hite,” or Doug Liman’s Brett Kavanaugh doc “Justice.”
Sundance also had documentaries that came with distribution, like Hulu’s “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” Amazon’s “Judy Blume Forever,” and Apple’s “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie.” However, if you’re looking for documentaries that aren’t based on high-recognition IP, or concepts that can’t be parceled into irresistible, cliff-hanging episodes — well, that’s a real-world problem.

Last fall, CNN Films ceased outside commissions of documentary features or series. Layoffs at Showtime in February slashed the unscripted team and merged it under MTV Entertainment Studios. Warner Bros. Discovery last August axed the non-scripted division at HBO Max led by Jennifer O’Connell and Rebecca Quinn. An insider confirms that no original documentaries are currently being made at HBO Max or at Discovery+.
“Our industry really feels it when we lose great partners, like CNN Films,” said Bryn Mooser, CEO of documentary company XTR. “Not only do we lose a buyer, we also lose a supporter and in some cases a platform. This has been a time that we put our heads down to focus on how we really think about the kinds of films that we’re supporting. That’s a hard road sometimes for documentary filmmakers who are trying to tell stories that are going to change the world or change the culture. We have to fight harder to get those in front of people than we did two years ago.”
HBO Documentary Films is known for planning years in advance, but according to multiple sources that slate is considered “full” through 2025 and leaves little room for acquisitions or other commissions. Netflix still has documentary execs, but the exit of longtime Netflix executive Lisa Nishimura felt like a bellwether.
Ongoing layoffs at Disney have Nat Geo on edge, as does whatever Bob Iger decides to do with Hulu. One sales agent told IndieWire he’s heard many companies are pausing acquisitions until at least the summer and he expects that a glut of unsold movies from Sundance and SXSW won’t clear up until this fall.

A few Sundance documentaries found buyers like “The Deepest Breath” (Netflix, prior to premiere), “The Eternal Memory” (MTV Documentary Films) and “Little Richard: I Am Everything” (Magnolia Films, which bought theatrical rights from the now-sidelined CNN Films). However, sources complain that the market wants only titles that are ripped from the headlines or are truly “commercial.”
“It’s so unclear, and everybody’s just saying ‘commercial! commercial! commercial!’ Like, what does that actually mean?” said a documentary talent manager who asked not to be named.
“Documentaries are supposed to be about telling a story that wouldn’t otherwise be told, or bringing to light a story and an issue and characters that likely wouldn’t otherwise be told,” the manager continued. “That doesn’t mean the ‘WeWork’ [docs] shouldn’t exist. It’s just there’s also got to be room for those emerging filmmakers and those stories that are giving you a snapshot into a world that you wouldn’t otherwise get a snapshot into, something that’s not already been in the headlines. I think that’s where the divide seems to be. It just seems like commercial equals something that we as a society already know about.”
Studios have become more eager to develop documentaries in-house rather than chase finished films, but the manager added that even funders and investors seem to be more risk averse.
“Going to a Sundance and getting a massive payday off a documentary — this doesn’t exist anymore,” the manager said. “[The financiers] are also looking at their bottom lines and saying, ‘Well, these streamers aren’t buying, and that’s really our mode to actually making our money back. Can we really support these stories and filmmakers? Or do we have to completely pull back?’”
There’s one documentary sector that’s doing just fine, thanks: true crime and reality-centric docuseries. “You cannot call a true-crime series the same thing as something about Navalny,” said MTV Documentary Films head Sheila Nevins, the former HBO veteran who knows better than anyone how cyclical the world of documentaries can be.
“To say that the docu market is contracting is not quite right,” she added. “The docu market in its traditional, pure way was structured differently and was about different things. Now everything goes under that umbrella. And then suddenly there were too many. I mean, why would a true crime docu do better than an environmental docu? I mean, let’s be real. Something about climate change is not going to do as well as Dahmer.”

With the documentary boom came booming budgets. Films that were being produced for less than $1 million were creeping up to budgets of $2 million or more, and much of that money went to a burgeoning documentary-production infrastructure.
One filmmaker said archival costs have skyrocketed as libraries recognize their value, and any movie centered around music is destined for enormous licensing costs. More documentaries in the pipeline meant increased demand for top editing talent, who became increasingly expensive. Also increasing were audience expectations for what a quality documentary should look like, which meant pricier graphics and effects.
“The Golden Age of Docs, so much great work has been done,” said Jenifer Westphal, CEO of documentary financier and producer Wavelength. “But maybe the budgets got too high. Maybe not everybody’s a doc filmmaker. Maybe there’s some stories that need to be told, but need to be told in a different way.”
For her, that’s meant some soul searching that sounds an awful lot like XTR’s. “We had to step back and pivot and we had to become really smart and lean and thoughtful about, ‘What are we going to do next? Is it possible to stay sustainable as a company investing in big-issue independent feature docs?’
Westphal’s conclusion: “It’s not, not right now. So we have to as a company stay sustainable so that we can eventually get back to being able to invest in big-issue docs.” She often has to deliver this message to aspiring documentary filmmakers who seek $2 million budgets with hopes of festival paydays.
“I say this to filmmakers all the time. ‘What’s your plan? What do you want to have happen? Because here’s the landscape. I can’t go yell at HBO or Netflix and tell them to buy documentary films. That’s not possible. So what’s another way we can get your film seen?’” Westphal said. “I think the doc industry needs first-time filmmakers. You’re not a documentary filmmaker unless you’ve made a doc, and they’ve got to start to understand that big lightning strike is gone.”
Wavelength is pivoting to branded content and narrative features. They’re also taking more of an international perspective — both for projects that might attract distribution outside the U.S. and for locations with tax breaks and other production incentives. XTR is leaning into the company’s streaming platform and FAST channel Documentary+.
Another producer wonders if the lull in buyers is a moment to start documentary production — that way, when streamers and networks realize they need content in another 18 months or so, they’re ready for the opportunity. The pendulum could swing back even more quickly if a writer’s strike prioritizes unscripted content.
It’s not all gloomy. In addition to “Little Richard: I Am Everything,” Magnolia bought a black-and-white doc at Sundance about transgender sex workers, “Kokomo City.” Amazon recently struck a first-look deal with Imagine Entertainment that includes non-fiction films.
Hulu recently announced a slate of three original documentaries: “Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told,” “Queenmaker: The Making of An It Girl,” and “The Jewel Thief.” There’s also increased activity from smaller, newer players like Peacock, Roku, Tubi, Fox Nation, and Starz. Are they looking for the next “Navalny”? Probably not. But you can never be sure.
“It’s up to us to make sure that we’re nimble and paying attention in this moment to make sure that our films get in front of those people,” Mooser said. “The opportunity hasn’t changed. The market might’ve changed, but it will come back.”
The casting marks a reunion with Interior Chinatown lead Jimmy O. Yang. The two were in Crazy Rich Asians together, where Yang’s Bernard threw Pang’s Colin a bachelor bacchanal aboard a cargo ship in international waters. This time around, Pang plays Older Brother, the charming and talented beloved sibling of protagonist Willis Wu (Yang) whose mysterious disappearance years ago tore the family apart. Now, Willis has an opportunity to investigate his brother’s case when Det. Lana Lee (Chloe Bennet) arrives in the neighborhood with new information.
Interior Chinatown is based on the National Book Award-winning novel of the same name from Charles Yu, who serves as showrunner and is an executive producer on the project alongside Rideback’s Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore and Elsie Choi, Participant’s Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite and Dive’s Garrett Basch as well as Taika Waititi, who directed the pilot. The story is a satirical, somewhat fourth-wall-breaking narrative about Willis, a background character in a police procedural called Black & White. The show, from studio 20th Television, is being described as a dramedy in tone, and its series regulars also include Ronny Chieng as Willis’ friend Fatty Choi, Sullivan Jones and Lisa Gilroy as the Black & White lead detectives Turner and Green, Archie Kao as Uncle Wong and Diana Lin as Willis’ mother, Lily. Tzi Ma recurs as Willis’ father, Joe. The latter two castings mark another reunion, as Lin and Ma played Awkwafina’s parents in The Farewell.
Maury Sterling and Spencer Neville are also joining the cast in the recurring roles of Carrey and McDonough, the original detective partners on Black & White.
Pang will next be seen in Lionsgate’s summer raunch-com Joy Ride, the directorial debut of Crazy Rich Asians co-screenwriter Adele Lim. The Australian actor’s credits also include Netflix and Universal’s Blade of the 47 Ronin, Palm Springs and the Charlie’s Angels reboot. He is represented by Australia’s Active Artists Management, UTA, Stride and Jackoway Austen. Sterling’s credits include NCIS: Hawai’i, The Rookie and Homeland, where he played Carrie’s private surveillance consultant Max Piotrowski across all eight seasons of the show. He is repped by Innovative and Forward. Neville was recently seen in Sony’s Devotion as well as on The Sex Lives of College Girls and American Horror Stories. He is repped by Buchwald and 3 Arts.
Did Maggie just put the final nail in the coffin of her marriage before she leaves for good?
The Maggie and Winston drama continued on Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 13, while developments in JoLink’s relationship are making shippers out of us, and Simone’s messiness with Lucas has become pure entertainment.
Join former TV Fanatic, Swiftie, and reviewer Meaghan Frey, aspiring actor and Grey’s superfan Joshua Johnson, and Jasmine Blu as they discuss the hour.
What’s your reaction to Winston and Maggie’s counseling session and Maggie’s statements to Winston in the parking lot? Do you agree with her?
Meaghan: Until this episode, I thought the writers were purposefully making Maggie insufferable because she is leaving the series. After this, I’m not sure they are even aware they are doing it.
Between the counseling session and Maggie’s big speech to Winston in the parking lot, it seemed that they were putting the blame for their marriage’s downfall squarely on Winston’s shoulders.
I can understand to an extent what Maggie was saying about Winston switching specialties instead of talking out their issues; however, short of one of them transferring to another hospital or Maggie completely changing her management style, he didn’t have much choice.
Why is it ok for Maggie to choose to take the job in Chicago without even having a real discussion about it with Winston, but Winston can’t switch his specialty? I could excuse this if it were an isolated incident, but it’s very similar to what they did with Meredith when she left. They seem to think they are giving these women an empowering moment, but instead, they are making them unlikeable.
Joshua: I understand where Maggie comes from, but I’m afraid I must disagree with her. The example she gave about Winston’s father and him walking closing the laptop was laughable at best. These are things you learn as relationships grow and deepen!
Winston dealt with a family issue the way that he was used to dealing with a family issue; if he hadn’t talked to Maggie about it later, I would agree with Maggie. But between the two, Winston does his best to explain his issues and try to adapt how he handles them, considering his relationship.
As Meaghan said, I also understand why she might be upset about Winston switching specialties, but Winston explained why he was doing it again. Rather than trying to figure out how to work with or understand her husband, she completely wrote off his decision.
It feels like Maggie has an idealized version of how relationships should work; in that version, she gets everything she wants. As a child prodigy, it makes sense that Maggie might be emotionally stunted.
Still, both Jackson and Winston have had the same problems with her (even Ethan in Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 brought up the fact that Maggie only talked about herself on their first date). Maggie doesn’t need couples therapy; she needs therapy- therapy to unlearn herself as the center of all her relationships.
Jasmine: Again, I say, Maggie has always been my girl. I’ve always had a soft spot for her, and I have always been frustrated with the particular misogyny or flat-out misogynoir the character and even the actress has faced that is so far from warranted.
I’m just disappointed with how they’re going about this because the bones are there for an in-character exit for Maggie, but the execution is poor. I can understand Maggie’s perspective to a degree, but I’m so beyond done with her placing all this blame on Winston because he doesn’t have the same priorities as hers, and his love language is different.
Yes, he knows what he got into with Maggie, but that works both ways. She knew how much he loved her and his willingness to put their marriage above all else for him. It’s just so wrong for her to punish him for loving her enough to make some sacrifices while essentially expecting him to make others that are to her liking.
I thought her calling him a coward was so far out of line. Her whole diatribe in the parking lot put me off because it again laid all this blame on him with zero self-awareness from her, and I’m just so over it.
I hate they’re sending Maggie out on a bad note like this. It’s like they just sacrificed her to the wolves.
Is moving to Chicago for a career opportunity the best call for Maggie? Do you think Winston should or would want to go with her now?
Meaghan: Of course. It’s a great opportunity for her. But Winston shouldn’t follow her there.
The two of them need some time apart to figure out if their marriage is worth saving. It doesn’t feel like it is right now, but maybe given some time and distance, that could change. Selfishly I want Winston to stay and become the new cardio attending.
Winston has always been great, and this would give him room to develop as a character independent of Maggie. It’s bad enough that we will lose Nick because of Meredith leaving; I don’t want to lose Winston too.
Joshua: Basically, I co-sign everything Meaghan says. Maggie needs to go, Winston needs to stay, and they really need to figure out if this relationship is worth it. I don’t see it lasting, and that’s probably for the best.
Jasmine: It’s a fantastic opportunity for Maggie. She deserves and earned it, so good for her in that regard. She should go. Winston should stay, though. And they should be over. It’s just not going to work.
How do you think Amelia will deal with another one of her sisters leaving her, and are you worried about her potentially relapsing or falling into a dark place?
Meaghan: Poor Amelia. I don’t think that it will lead to a relapse. She is in a good place right now. I’d be concerned if she were already on rocky ground and then lost her whole support system, but that’s not the case.
But as I mentioned during our last roundtable, I worry that Amelia will become irrelevant with Maggie and Mer gone. At this point, her only friend will be Richard; that won’t get her many storylines next season. This is exactly why we need to bring back Addison permanently.
Joshua: If there is a storyline for Amelia after Season 19, it’s seeing if she can handle navigating life without the people who anchor her. I don’t think Amelia would relapse, if only because we’ve seen that storyline happen across two shows, and I think her newfound motherhood would help keep her from relapsing.
Ultimately, I see Amelia leaving Grey Sloan to be with Kai. Caterina Scorsone has been playing Amelia for almost 15 years; what other storylines could they find for her? (I also wonder if, with her house burning down, Caterina might see this as a time to step away from work and focus on rebuilding her and her family’s life).
Jasmine: I think Amelia will be resilient and do fine. I can see her leaning on people like Richard and Kai more. I feel bad that she’s losing her sisters like this, though. But I am at a place where I’m wondering about the state of many of the attending characters and whether or not they still have storylines worth exploring.
Do you think Levi has been too mean to the interns? Did you agree with Helm and Bailey’s assessment of and advice to him?
Meaghan: He’s been worse than Bailey was in the beginning. Bailey had a tough exterior, but there was also compassionate from the very start. All we’ve gotten with Levi as Chief Resident is that hardness. We see him outside of work still being the sweet Levi we all know and love, but the interns never get to see that side of him.
I’m glad he took Bailey and Helm’s words to heart and began showing the interns who he really is. That’s part of becoming a leader.
Through trial and error, you find what leadership style works best. Levi was the intern who was a mess and the one who was thriving. He can use those experiences to become a supportive leader that pushes the interns to reach their full potential.
Joshua: Levi has absolutely been too mean to the interns.
As Meaghan said, his management style lacks compassion; he’s a hardass because he thinks that’s what he needs to be. It’s as if he thinks that makes him human–the nerdy, endearing awkwardness–is a detriment to him as a doctor when really, that’s what makes him a great doctor. He needs to find the balance between the two.
Jasmine: Yeah, Levi is all hardass and no compassion or relatability, which is weird because it wasn’t that long ago when he was in their shoes. Bailey was a hardass, but she truly cared about her interns, and we saw that in many moments.
He definitely needs to find his balance, and he’s in a great position to help these interns avoid some of his pitfalls and even keep up with their mental health. Bailey and Helm were both right, and I loved them for it.
Should Georgia’s parents have insisted, she stops bull riding until she was an adult? Were the doctors too judgmental of this situation?
Meaghan: They are the parents. It’s their job to protect her. Yes, she has to make her own mistakes and hopefully learn from them, but at some point, you have to step in and say enough is enough.
It’s not worth letting her die so that she can get her way. When they told the story of her not eating and sinking into a depression because she wasn’t riding, I couldn’t help but empathize with them. I can’t begin to imagine what it must feel like being a parent in that situation; they should’ve gotten her help, not just put a bandaid on it.
The doctors were being judgemental, but it’s hard not to be. Like Lucas and Simone’s case, they only saw a snapshot of the situation. They couldn’t see the years of experiences that brought Georgia and her parents to that moment.
Seeing the full picture allowed them to give her the no-hold-barred truth she needed.
Joshua: The doctors weren’t too judgmental at all. It’s a doctor’s job to consider the whole person as a patient, and mental health is an easily overlooked thing.
It’s great that Georgia found something she’s passionate about, pulling her out of her depression. Still, without finding the root of that depression and treating that, Georgia will always be in danger.
That said, I found it ironic that of all people, Maggie was the person who related to her and got her to calm down and understand that she needed to heal and rest. It was a bit like the pot talking to the kettle about needing to listen to what other people have to say.
Jasmine: I would’ve been exactly like the doctors in this situation, and if that’s “too judgmental,” then so be it. I find it frustrating because the parents should’ve put their foot down about this.
I was willing to give them some wiggle room if they came up with the argument that she was financially supporting the household through her bull riding. Georgia’s passion needed to be put on hold until she was old enough.
Were you proud of Lucas for trusting his gut and making that big save? Do you think he’ll stop doubting himself constantly, and will the others stop treating him like a screwup?
Meaghan: I was cheering him on so hard.
Obviously, a large portion of what makes someone a great doctor is their knowledge, but having those gut instincts is just as important. Those instincts are what stop you from missing things.
It doesn’t hurt anyone to take the extra time to review the patient’s history and ensure nothing is being overlooked, but not doing it? Ignoring your gut telling you something is wrong? That can kill someone. Hopefully, this will instill some confidence in him because he has the potential to be great.
Joshua: Oh man, I got so happy that I teared up a little bit.
He internalized what Amelia told him about following his gut; he was able to focus on the patient after talking with Nick and learning new ways for him to engage, and he paid attention to Richard’s lesson about looking deeper into scans. This was such a great moment for him, and I’m glad he advocated for himself. Lucas needed that win to feel bolstered.
How did the patient forget that he swallowed a two-inch-long toothpick? That’s not something you do without realizing it. A minor quibble for a significant plot point, but still.
Jasmine: I love it when my baby boy gets a win! Seriously, I love Lucas so much, and I’m proud of him anytime he gets to show that he’s a good, competent doctor who leads with compassion. I just have such a soft spot for baby Shep.
It was also a great lesson because one of the biggest issues in healthcare for patients is dealing with doctors and medical professionals who don’t listen to them. I also appreciated their touching on what it’s like for a patient with a past of addiction to get dismissed or written off easily because of that.
Simone asked Lucas to be her Man of Honor at her wedding, and he agreed. React!
Meaghan: Simone, Simone, Simone. You cannot ask the man who just had his hands in your pants while your fiance confessed his love for you to be your Man of Honor. You are just asking for trouble.
It’s not like you had feelings for him years ago and then got past them and remained good friends. No, this was just a few weeks ago. Emotions don’t magically disappear overnight.
This wedding is doomed. At this point, I’m just getting my popcorn ready for when it all implodes spectacularly.
Joshua: I was so frustrated by Simone asking this that I yelled, “Seriously?” at the screen. I didn’t even think about it from the perspective of Simone’s feelings; I thought about how rude and insensitive it was for her to ask Lucas to be her man of honor after everything he said to her in her room during the intern party.
Jasmine: Simone is so messy, and I should hate it or find it annoying (because why are we hurting Lucas like this, baby?), but somehow, it manages to be entertaining. She’s such a gloriously hot mess. Let’s think about the audacity, the unmitigated gall she has to ask LUCAS to be her Man of Honor?
Also, part of me cackled because it made me think about how Lucas is Derek’s nephew, and Patrick Dempsey was in Made of Honor (with Kevin McKidd, which is a whole other thing), playing his best friend and love of his life’s Man of Honor. Screw Japril callbacks; give me callbacks to that rom-com. Thank you very much.
Baby, I’m here for the mess. Simone can’t quit Lucas so much that she’s trying to keep him in her life but desexualize him and erase their feelings however she can in her mind, and it’s not working. And Lucas is so gone for this girl that he will literally do anything for her, including this.
Were Jo and Link right about one another, and why they’re both incapable of rest? How long before JoLink officially becomes a thing?
Meaghan: These two know each other like the back of their hands. They see each other for who they really are and are completely correct in their assessments of each other. Jo and Link are everything that the writers tried to portray Alex and Jo as being but never really succeeded at doing so, in my eyes.
While Alex and Jo often brought out a darkness in each other, Jo and Link help bring out the best in each other.
The writers will drag this out the rest of the season before they finally admit how they feel, but I’m ok with the wait. I love this slow burn between their conversation in bed during this episode and their elevator moment in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 12.
Joshua: The JoLink scenes in this episode officially got me to ship them. I’m enjoying this slow burn into a relationship. They already have a solid friendship and know so much about each other, which makes it easier for them to wade into more romantic waters. I hope the writers don’t sully this one; Jo deserves to be happy for once.
Jasmine: Fine, you two. FINE. I’ll join you on the ship, begrudgingly. I’m not steering anything, though, dammit.
I agree with Joshua; the slow burn is nice while capitalizing on their friendship. I hope they don’t screw it up because that’s why I’m still struggling… I’m still incredibly pissed by what they did to Amelink. And I believe Link deserves happiness, and I’m just happy to see him in his romantic leading man bag right now. He plays that role so well.
What was your favorite moment from the hour? Is there anything else you’d love to address?
Meaghan: Jo and Link’s scenes were standouts to me. Him seeing through her facade that she wasn’t sick and just needed a little TLC, bringing her mini donuts, them psychoanalyzing each other.
They’ve somehow managed to turn two characters that I loathed just one season ago — and in Jo’s case, pretty much since her introduction — and make me love them. I always hoped I could get back to that place with Link after the Amelia debacle, but I never thought I’d get there with Jo.
I’m worried about Jules and Blue. With Jules bringing up their no feelings rule and mentioning that she might be violating it a little but still moving forward with sleeping together because he has no feelings, I just worry Jules will end up hurt at some point.
Joshua: I agree with Meaghan about Jules sleeping with Blue. I was so disappointed when she decided to leave with Blue, knowing she had feelings and he didn’t. She absolutely will get her feelings hurt.
I have to say, I’m also terrified for Bailey and how the windshield fliers will affect her and the Elena Bailey clinic. At the same time, it’s another smart way of continuing to tell stories that show the ramifications of the battle for women’s health rights.
Jasmine: My favorite moment has to go to Bailey with her vagina quote. It stayed on repeat in my head since I watched the installment. It was such a classic Grey’s line, and can we applaud Bailey from graduating from “vajayjay” to “the whole vagina?” Grown woman stuff right there, you guys!
You said you wanted to be the vɑginɑ of the program because vaginas are so strong. Well, vaginas also bring pleasure. They bring joy, bring life. You got to be the whole vɑginɑ, Schmidt, not just the muscle.
Bailey
But, yes, Joshua. I’m apprehensive about Bailey getting doxed. Ben was concerned about her on Station 19 and went as far as accompanying her and Carina on a mission they went on at a clinic, and his concerns were validated at this moment.

So far, only two series regulars have won an Emmy their work on “Succession.” The recent Season 4 shocker creates a scenario where that number seems sure to increase.
[The below contains spoilers for “Succession” Season 4, Episode 3.]
Not only does the death of Logan Roy whip the seven remaining episodes of “Succession” Season 4 into a frenzy, the shocking plot point also calls into question what the acclaimed HBO drama’s Emmys campaign plans are now that Brian Cox is presumably ineligible for a third Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nomination.
For however tragic it is to see the imposing patriarch fall so early into the show’s final season, it does burst open the door to even more interesting new awards prospects for “Succession.” For instance, there has already been plenty of conversation around Alan Ruck, who plays eldest son Connor Roy, finally making the cut for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, having never been nominated for his work on the past three seasons of the show.
Now, Cox too seems most likely to make a bid for that category. Though creator Jesse Armstrong likes to keep mum about what comes next for all the “Succession” characters, Cox told Vulture, “I do pop back and I have a couple scenes later on, which is flashback stuff.” Appearing in two more episodes would likely render the 76-year-old star ineligible for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, a category that HBO awards strategists would most likely avoid submitting him into anyway, as that award is not given out at the main Primetime Emmys ceremony, and given the circumstances they would want Cox to have his first Emmy win and acceptance speech for the series be televised.

That all said, the actual cast members that have been mainstays in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category are Kieran Culkin, Nicholas Braun, and Matthew Macfadyen, with all three being nominated for Seasons 2 and 3, and the latter winning last year. Again, we don’t know what the rest of the season holds for their characters, but the way things are teeing up, it’s safe to assume Braun and Macfadyen will stay in the category. Those two plus Ruck and Cox would already give the show four extremely viable contenders for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, that is why it would be smart for Culkin to now submit for Lead.
So far, “Succession” has only won two acting Emmys: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series to Jeremy Strong for Season 2, and the aforementioned Supporting Actor win for Macfadyen after Season 3. The show was not nominated in any of the acting categories its first season, but the following seasons really hammered in how the central dynamic on the show was between Logan and Kendall, hence Cox and Strong twice entering the Lead Actor in a Drama race.
Season 4, though, has so far been much more centered on the Roy children as one unit (sans Connor). With Logan’s death automatically pushing Roman into playing a bigger role in the narrative, it’s fair to have Culkin’s Emmy submission reflect that. Putting him in Lead would also give even more “Succession” actors an opportunity to win their first Emmy for the show.

Yes, Emmys history dictates that Strong and Macfayden are more likely to win again, rather than a new star from the show winning, but given how this is the last season, the proposed setup does seed the idea among Emmy voters that they might have overlooked Culkin and Cox one too many times, and should hand them Emmys on their way out.
How the women of the show will submit for Emmys is more complicated. Sarah Snook, who plays Shiv Roy, Logan’s only daughter, has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series twice, but lost both times to “Ozark” star Julia Garner. With that show ending last season, one would think Snook is now in the clear to finally win the category, should she submit for Supporting Actress again, but she would now have “The White Lotus” Season 2 cast to deal with.
Though it contended as a Limited Series last year, it was still very telling that the Mike White vacation dramedy took up five out of seven nomination slots for Supporting Actress, and the Emmy still went to Jennifer Coolidge. And “The White Lotus” Season 2 not only had more fleshed out female characters, it was also better and more widely received. While Snook’s role in the final season of “Succession” does look like it could warrant a move to Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, so does Jennifer Coolidge’s “The White Lotus” swan song. If it’s ultimately HBO making the decisions on who submits where, it would be most beneficial to move the latter actress up to Lead, since she would be the most competitive against the women of “Yellowjackets,” the other buzzy spring drama already proven to be on the TV Academy’s radar.
That would pave the way for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series race this year to be between Snook, her “Succession” co-star J. Smith Cameron again, and maybe even Justine Lupe as well if Season 4 continues to be a strong showcase for her, against a mix of “The White Lotus” stars like Aubrey Plaza and Meghann Fahy, and “Yellowjackets” actresses like Christina Ricci and Simone Kessell.
There are more individuals from other shows that could crack into Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series as well, “The Crown” star Elizabeth Debicki being a prime example. But the main wild cards will be “Better Call Saul” star Rhea Seehorn — also overdue — who is in contention for the last season of her show, with a possibility of moving up to Lead. And don’t forget about the women of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which have dominated the nomination slots for the category before, with Ann Dowd even winning after the Hulu series’ first season. Although it does seem like fans were less engaged with the recent penultimate season of the 2017 Outstanding Drama Series winner.
When all is said and done, Logan Roy’s death ensures “Succession” will be keeping Emmys prognosticators on their toes well after the beloved series ends in May.

The cross-country tour is preceded by a new album (Sr. Santos), which he dropped late last year, and seven back-to-back nights at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in February, a hard-hitting collaboration with Bizarrap (“BZRP Music Sessions #54”) that he unleashed in March and has nearly 50 million views on YouTube (so far).
Sr. Santos scored the Puerto Rican hitmaker his sixth top 10 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart when it debuted at No. 3 in December. The set, which includes collaborations with Bad Bunny, Young Miko and Myke Towers, among others, is a tribute to his late brother Justin Santos who died at 21-years-old in 2021.
“Life surprised us with the death of [my brother] so we canceled everything,” Arcángel previously told Billboard En Español. “I built up courage and said, ‘since he loved these songs so much, let’s finish it and make and album that will be dedicated to him.’”
In 2021, Arcángel released Los Favoritos 2.5 — a follow up to Los Favoritos 2 from 2020 — which peaked at No. 15 on the Top Latin Albums chart and No. 11 on the Latin Rhythm Albums.
Tickets for his Just In Time Tour will go on sale April 13 at 10 a.m.

You are a new filmmaker to this business! Excellent! Who knows how far you can go! First off, don’t listen to the Nay-Sayers! Do what your heart tells you! Plan well. In Japan we have an old saying, “80% of success is in good planning!”
So you’ve finished your first movie! Hooray! Congratulations! What’s your plan to get people to see your movie?
So you want to submit your film to a film festival? Of course! Well, for first time filmmakers, and even second or third time filmmakers, there is only one film festival in the entire world that is worth your hard earned cash and the effort it takes to get Selected and that is Raindance.
Why? Because Raindance is the top of the hill for indie filmmakers. Many famous filmmakers got their start at Raindance! Raindance will not only get you a world-famous festival screening, but industry people, publicists, movie company people, film financiers and just everyone in the industry comes to Raindance. It is rated in the Top 10 of all film festivals but is by far #1 for indies films.
Raindance really is the only indies film festival that matters.
I know because my very first feature was selected at Raindance and I had submitted to many famous festivals but only Raindance selected my film! And, through that, I have met many industry people and I asked the difficult questions that need to be asked.
I run a film festival in Japan (JIFF – Japan Indies Film Festival) and I also served as a Jury member for Raindance for a few years. I am the only person from Japan who has ever served on the Jury at Raindance. It was such an honor.
Sure, you could also submit to Cannes, Telluride, Sundance, but they have been screening big budget monsters. So, maybe your uncle is a high up executive there, OK. Then maybe try that too. But for a fair shake at a big festival, Raindance is by far your best bet.
Getting chosen at Raindance is difficult as they get well over 10,000 ~ 20,000 submissions per year!
Through running a festival in Japan, I get to see all sorts of films with laurels of festivals I have never heard of. A dozen or more laurels from tiny festivals that I have never ever heard of, and I work in this industry!
Winning laurels is nice, but filmmaking insiders know the handful of festivals that really matter and Raindance is one of them. Most of these festivals mean nothing. Raindance has been around for more than 31 years and getting selected is almost an impossible feat to accomplish.
So, hate to keep beating a dead horse, but in your first year, you definitely must submit to Raindance. It is the world standard festival for indie filmmakers.
So, you go to FilmFreeway and submit your film and wait. And you wait….
But! I am here today to tell you an “Out-of-the-Box” way to get great promotion and have a huge audience see your movie! And perhaps influence the film selection team at Raindance, and it won’t cost you a penny!
I know, if you’ve read up to here, then you must be a self motivated go-getter!
I have worked for and with many festivals in Japan for nearly ten years, I have seen everything! But there is something I realized a few years ago, sadly, there are some festivals on FilmFreeway that remind me of the old saying, “Let the buyer beware”- and there are festivals like JIFF who are trying to be honest & fair (but it will require at least ten years to even begin to get credibility – I’ll probably be dead by then) so that leaves the last man standing: Raindance.
But wait! Did you know that there are lots of festivals running all the time but they are not on FilmFreeway? There are. They are running all the time and they don’t use FilmFreeway. So how to find them? I just completed my latest movie. Of course, I submitted to Raindance. Will I get selected? Who knows?
But I used my head while considering my Yoko’s Grapefruit film and found world famous Beatles Festivals! I wrote to them and they accepted my movie! And I don’t have to spend any money getting screened at these festivals!
My movie Grapefruit. Starring Natsuki Belleza and Hiroshi Matsumoto! Directed by Mike Rogers.
Think of it from the festival’s point of view: They want happy customers, right? If they rent a movie to screen at their festival, they have to pay a lot of money in Rental fees. I sent them my movie and offered it to them for free and they said, “YES!”
I got big famous Beatles festivals and do you think that impresses the Raindance Selection Team? Of course it does!
But wait! Think about it! What kind of Festivals are there? You made a SuperHero movie? Write to a comic convention and ask them if they’d like to screen your movie!
You made a documentary about Sushi or Mexican food? How about screening at a Food Fair? Etc, etc…
Is there a parade near you? How about asking a bar owner near the parade to screen your film? Why wouldn’t they say,“Sure!”
And it will not cost anything for your film to screen at one of these festivals or events. No submission fees, no fees for DCP! Nothing! The festivals will most likely handle that for you!
Here is a listing of all festivals in New York. I can’t even count them all,
They are not film festivals listed on FilmFreeway! But, they want happy visitors! Maybe they have a room where people are watching films already? Maybe they have a room where people can sit and have a coffee? Why wouldn’t they love your movie and screen it? All you gotta do is find them and simply ask!
For a new filmmaker, Raindance is the top of the mountain. There is no doubting that. Go for that. Visualize getting there. But also up your film’s value by screening at these other festivals! Think out of the box!
Good luck and good hunting. There are festivals, big parties, even some concerts and festivals, that might screen your movie… All you gotta do is ask.
And the best part of asking? It doesn’t cost anything!
I have another super great idea on how to get selected, I will tell you that in my next article!
The images of Selena Gomez and her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber’s new wife, Hailey Bieber, have gone viral, and the singer would like to play them down.
In a recent interview, the actress stated that the photographs taken of her at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures the previous month were nothing to worry about. While promoting her next documentary for Apple TV+ called My Mind and Me, Gomez told Vulture that it is not even a thing.
The public display of affection between the Only Murders in the Building actor, age 30, and the model, age 25, at the star-studded event in Los Angeles on October 15 sent fans into a frenzy. Even the photographer, Tyrell Hampton, who posted his comments on Instagram about the plot twist, stated that he was shocked by the couple’s pleasant show.
The spontaneous get-together took place just a few weeks after Hailey had stated on the Call Her Daddy podcast that there was no friction between her and Gomez, who had dated Justin, 28, on and off from 2010 until 2018.
It’s all respect; she responded in September when she was asked to clarify that she and the former Disney Channel star had communicated.
All that matters is love. There is nothing that each of us owes anyone else other than respect. I have a lot of respect for her, and I don’t believe either of us has any expectations of the other. She has my respect.
Continuing, the ex-Drop the Mic co-host lauded her spouse for “clos[ing] a chapter” with Gomez before the couple got engaged in July 2018 and secretly married two months later.
She claimed it was OK if the Baby singer’s fans wished he had ended up with someone else because they had their own lives to live. Of course, you can have as many hopes for it as you like, but the reality is that it is not the case.
YouTube has released much-anticipated details on its streaming offering of NFL Sunday Ticket, the out-of-market NFL package.
Sunday Ticket, which had been exclusive to DirecTV for decades, will shift to YouTube next season, with the Google-owned video platform making it available as both an add-on for its YouTube TV service, or as a standalone streaming service through its YouTube Primetime Channels platform.
By far the biggest question for YouTube had been around how it would price NFL Sunday Ticket. NFL fans may not be surprised to learn that YouTube’s streaming packages will not be offering a steep discount compared to DirecTV’s version of the service (with YouTube estimated to be paying $2 billion per year for the rights, the fees need to be commensurate with that price tag).
YouTube TV subscribers will be able to add NFL Sunday Ticket in a special presale period for $249 for the season (it will normally cost $349), or an expanded tier that includes the NFL RedZone channel for $289 (it will normally cost $389 for the season). The company notes that YouTube TV subscribers will have access to every single NFL game, both local and national, if they add Sunday Ticket.
For everyone else that does not have YouTube TV, Sunday Ticket will be offered in the special presale for $349 for the season (it will be $449 after the presale ends), with the RedZone package available for $389 ($489 after the presale). This package will include the out of market games.
The presale period will end after June 6, after which regular prices will kick in.
DirecTV offered the service for just under $300 for the season, with a premium tier that included the NFL RedZone channel and a fantasy-focused channel for just under $400 for the season. Of course, DirecTV also required that users have its satellite TV service.
YouTube is taking a similar playbook, with YouTube TV subs getting a steep discount on Sunday Ticket, but making it more widely available than it was before through Primetime Channels (albeit at a higher price).
YouTube says that it will also add new functionality to Sunday Ticket that was not available previously. That includes “Multiview,” which it rolled out during the March Madness tournament, and lets users watch up to 4 games at the same time. YouTube also says fantasy data, replays, and real-time stats will be integrated into the service. The company also plans to add shopping integrations, letting fans buy team merch mid-game.
While YouTube will be selling Sunday Ticket to fans, the NFL and RedBird Capital have launched a new company that will sell it to bars, hotels, restaurants and other commercial venues. The new company, EverPass Media, will take on DirecTV, which has dominated the commercial TV business for years.
Football fans, start saving those pennies. YouTube just announced pricing for its new Sunday Ticket package, and access to this season’s games will cost anywhere from $249 to $489.
The pricing structure is… confusing. So let’s just quickly run it down.
If you’re a YouTube TV subscriber, you’ll pay:
Subscribing through YouTube TV is clearly the better deal here, but that obviously also requires ponying up the $72.99 subscription fee for the company’s live TV system. Any way you slice it, it’s expensive.
But of course it’s expensive! YouTube is paying a reported $2 billion a year for this package, after a hotly contested battle with Apple and others to win the rights. This is a statement move for YouTube as it continues to try and become a traditional entertainment giant. Some people hoped that YouTube might offer an artificially low price in order to bring more users into its orbit, but that was always pretty unlikely. A $2 billion growth hack won’t get you very far.
It’s expensive — but Sunday Ticket has always been expensive
The price is also fairly close to what Sunday Ticket has cost in the past. Last year, when the package was distributed by DirecTV, the base Sunday Ticket package cost $293.94, and the Max Plan — which included the RedZone channel and a DirecTV-made Fantasy Zone channel — was $395.99 for the season. (It was also estimated that DirecTV was losing about $500 million a year on the package. DirecTV’s biggest problem last year wasn’t the price, though; it was that it just simply could not keep its streams up and running. And when you’re paying nearly $100 a month to watch football one day a week, constant service interruptions are a bit of a nonstarter.
There may be more ways to slice this package over time, too. “We’re partnering with the NFL to look at different types of packages,” says Christian Oestlien, a VP of product management at YouTube. “We might offer mid-season, late-season — we’re just kicking off that research as well.” The partnership with the NFL is a long-term one, he says, and what you see in Sunday Ticket this year won’t be how it works forever.
YouTube is also building some platform-specific features for football, including a way to watch multiple games at once, tools for buying team merch, and YouTube-y things like live chat and polls. If you subscribe through Primetime Channels, you’ll see live games in your YouTube feed, and there will be highlights and fantasy data all over the platform. Given that DirecTV carried Sunday Ticket from 1994 to 2022, there haven’t been many (or any) chances to rethink the package. And there’s a lot YouTube could do over time.
The first job, though, is just to stream the game without weirdness or interruptions. (“You’d be surprised — that’s a simple statement, but there’s a lot that goes into that,” Oestlien says.) Amazon took a while to figure out its Thursday Night Football strategy, Apple’s initial forays into MLB broadcasts were kind of a mess, and YouTube has really never done anything like this before. If YouTube can get it right, it can infuse football all over its platform and do things for NFL viewers that no traditional cable company ever could. But first, it just has to stream football perfectly to a lot of people paying a lot of money to watch the Packers lose from thousands of miles away. That’s not a small task.

The Academy Award-nominated star described the mechanics of the snow plow accident, noting how lucky he was that critical parts of his anatomy were spared as he was caught under the weight of the machine.
The latest: Jeremy Renner says he ‘got lucky in a lot of ways’ in surviving a ghastly New Year’s Day snow plow accident appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Monday
‘It’s like a giant metal – like cookie roller, right?’ he said. ‘And it just missed every vertebrae, did not hit any organs, membrane did not swell – my eye did pop out, that’s weird. But I got pretty lucky that none of the organs got messed up.’
Renner has been open about his recovery – which could potentially last for years – in the wake of the horrifying January 1 accident.
More than 30 bones in Renner’s body were broken in the January 1 accident that left him in ‘critical condition’ at first, ahead of multiple surgical procedures.
He was making a valiant attempt at protecting his nephew Alex from harm at the time of the incident, and said his initial thoughts were about his nephew’s trauma witnessing the harrowing ordeal.
Renner said, ‘I had to think about Alex’s, because he was there during the entire time and he had to his uncle Jeremy on the ground – I did not see any of this stuff, but the blood and the thing and the eye, and all that stuff right? I had to see what his perspective was.’
Renner said he continued to take into account the feelings of his loved ones amid his critical health ordeal.
‘It’s pretty harrowing to take the time to really consider somebody else’s perspective,’ Renner said.
Kimmel shared an image of the A-list actor as he was hospitalized in critical condition in the wake of the accident. Renner said that it was ‘probably’ his mother who took the photo.

Renner’s family was in attendance at the taping, as the actor noted, ‘They’ve been at my side the entire time.’
Renner said that in the wake of the accident, he was on the ground for about 45 minutes, and remembers ‘all of it’ up until he was transported to a nearby hospital.
‘Once I got into the helicopter to [go] the hospital, that’s when they jammed some sort of emergency knife or whatever they do in your chest – I don’t know, that’s when I was like, I got to go to sleep,’ he said.
Renner said he personally knew the local firefighters who were first responders in the incident, and overheard them saying they did the best they could, presuming the accident would be fatal.
‘Yes, some people thought I was dead and was going to die,’ he said. ‘I’m like, “No, man. I’m trying to get out of the hospital as soon as I was in it.” I’m like, “I’m out of here.”‘
Renner told Kimmel he was in two hospitals after he ‘got kicked out of the first one’ as he was unsettled while on heavy medication.
‘I’m going back this week to apologize to everyone of those nurses,’ Renner said. ‘Yes, I’m going to apologize.’
Renner said he was overwhelmed speaking with friends about the accident, as it clued him in to how serious his condition was.

‘That’s where I found out I think I was really messed up – like I think I really got injured,’ Renner said. ‘It was like, everybody is acting like it’s an open casket and you are living through it. Like everybody is walking by.
‘You are like, whoa – oh, yeah, everybody is giving me a reaction, I didn’t know what to say.’

He joked, ‘They are terrible actors, they could not hide the fact that I looked awful!’
He noted how his friend Paul Rudd made him a parody Cameo clip to cheer him up after the accident.
Over the weekend, Renner visited Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California with his family, posing for photos with relatives at the popular amusement park.
Renner captioned a picture on Instagram: ‘Good Friday, made magic on the mountain with some of my amazing family! @sixflagsmagicmountain #thankyou.’
He was seen on the outing to Six Flags with his daughter Ava Berlin, 10. The actor kept a mobility scooter nearby to assist with his trek at the vast theme park.

‘It’s spring break, and my daughter turned 10, and she got my niece and nephews and all of her cousins, I had to treat them to a nice time and to the roller coasters,’ Renner told Kimmel of the trip, noting that he went on rides on the outing.
‘I just live by the principle of if it hurts I will stop,’ he said. ‘But if it doesn’t hurt, I’ll try it. So I did everything that didn’t and I had a great time – more importantly my daughter and all the kids did.’
Asked by Kimmel what the best thing to come out of the New Year’s Day situation was, Renner joked that he realized his calendar was freed up for the rest of the year.
He joked, ‘I was start making plans, I was making so many plans. I was going to buy a boat. I was going to live in Mexico. And all of these plans I was going to make, because my year was pretty jammed up until I got crushed, right?’
He added, ‘And then also it was like a New Year’s resolution, I did drop like 20 pounds – I quit smoking. It’s easy! Easiest way to quit smoking! I’m telling you!’
In March, Renner took to social media to share that he had been progressing in his physical recovery from the accident, as he was seen walking on a treadmill on social media.
In addition to his appearance on Kimmel Monday, Renner is slated to walk the red carpet at the debut of his Disney+ show Rennervations on Tuesday.

Brie Larson is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for “The Marvels,” the sequel to 2019’s “Captain Marvel.” This time, Larson shares the spotlight with fellow female MCU stars Teyonah Parris from “WandaVision” and Iman Vellani from “Ms. Marvel.”
The anticipated follow-up to Carol Danvers’ origin story takes place after the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel,” which introduced Vellani as Kamala Khan, a.k.a. the young, New Jersey superhero Ms. Marvel.
Prior to the first “The Marvels’” trailer release, the first look at the film was shown exclusively to panel attendees at the 2022 D23 Expo. The initial footage offers insight into the aftermath of the “Ms. Marvel” post-credits scene, where Kamala seemingly swapped places with Carol. “The Marvels” teaser picked up shortly thereafter, with Captain Monica Rambeau (Parris) working as an astronaut for Saber Space Station alongside Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). When Monica hits a jump point in the space continuum, she morphs into Ms. Marvel, confirming she, Carol and Kamala share a unique set of transformative powers.
The official “The Marvels” synopsis from Marvel Studios reads: “Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe.”
After helming 2021’s “Candyman” reboot, director Nia DaCosta will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with “The Marvels” — a feat that makes her the first Black woman, and fourth woman, to direct a film in the MCU. DaCosta co-wrote the screenplay with Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.
South Korean actor Park Seo-joon, best known for his roles in “Parasite” and the TV series “Itaewon Class,” also stars in the film. Other confirmed cast members include Saagar Shaikh, Zenoiba Shroff and Mohan Kapur as Kamala’s older brother, mother and father, respectively, along with Zawe Ashton in an undisclosed villain role. Goose, the fan-favorite Flerken, will also make a return to the screen.
After a delay from this summer, “The Marvels” hits theaters on Nov. 10, 2023. Watch the official trailer below.
After a long wait, Marvel Studios officially released the first footage of The Marvelsonline ahead of its November release.

Almost a month after the announcement of the first projects that will be part of the first stage of the DCU by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy continues to advance details to fans through his social media.
Gunn is always on hand to respond to his fans and answer their questions, as well as dispel any rumors or misinformation that may emerge from the media about his 10-year plan for DC Studios. That includes hinting at what will happen in the coming months now that we already know which movies and series will arrive first in this new universe.
Through Twitter, the most frequent means of communication that the director uses to interact, he revealed that there would be news regarding the casting of these future projects sooner than we imagined. According to the tweet, it will be within the next six months:
The news about the casting is, without a doubt, what fans expect the most regarding the DCU, to find out which actors will be playing the most important characters within each of the projects. So Gunn has a difficult task ahead of him.
Which Are the Most Important Roles to Fill for the DCU?
DC Comics
The first big movie of the new DCU will be Superman: Legacy, and it is clear that Clark Kent’s role is one of the most important in any universe that wants to be built based on the characters of the comic book company. Henry Cavill set the bar very high for his portrayal of the Man of Steel, and Tyler Hoechlin is also doing very well in Superman & Lois, so he’s going to be a tough choice.
But the real pressure will be casting the franchise’s most popular character. Robert Pattinson is doing an incredible job as Batman, but his version of Bruce Wayne will not be part of the DCU canon but an independent project. The new Dark Knight must be a more mature and established version since he will be introduced together with his son Damian Wayne, another difficult role to cast.
Supergirl will also make her DCU debut in Woman of Tomorrow after Melissa Benoist was highly praised for her portrayal, and with Sasha Calle already drawing rave reviews just for her brief appearances in The Flash trailer.
Hal Jordan and John Stewart will also be making their HBO Max series debut, along with other Lanterns, so there will be multiple roles available in this project. Another hero that will be important is Booster Gold, who already has a fan favorite choice behind him, Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell.
As if we weren’t already busy enough getting ready for 3.6, Genshin Impact decides to drop a new character as well as news of Tighnari’s new voice actor. Yes, come the update, Tighnari’s English voice will officially be changed from its previous VA to none other than Zachary Gordon.
I will be the first to say I’m bad with names without faces and knowing works related to people, but the first thing I heard about Zachary Gordon was his work for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, playing as the famously infamous Greg Heffley. While this isn’t the only job he’s picked up, it’s certainly one that players are not letting him live down, already beginning all of the memes and comparisons, myself included! He’s played in a few animated cartoons and video games before, including, MY GOD, Gil from Bubble Guppies. I may have been too old for Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movies save for the first one, but that may be a voice from my childhood that haunts me as I play Tighnari’s English voice again.
Originally, Elliot Gindi was the voice actor of Tighnari upon the Dendro Archer’s release, but due to some severe allegations has been passed over by Hoyoverse to continue working with them. In past events, however, it did seem that the company used the rest of his lines for the Windblume Festival since it was probably too late at this point to get someone to cover the lines quickly, and were unable to remove the voice-acting lines.
But with 3.6 officially updating, Tighnari’s lines should be expected to change over completely to reflect Zachary Gordon’s take on the character. Personally, it sounds quite similar if not younger, and occasionally more aggressive in battle. What are your thoughts on our new VA?

The awards are an important springboard for the Oscars, BAFTA and European Film Awards, among others. From a packed auditorium at LUX, in Nijmegen’s hometown, the jury announced to filmmakers who had won prizes.
Among others, I Want To Go Higher by Amanda van Hesteren won the Dutch competition and the French Lola Cambourieu and Yann Berlier won the award for best European fiction with their film Lost Children for the second year in a row. During Easter, the winning films as well as the audience favorites can still be viewed in LUX in the programs Jury Winners & Audience Favorites.
Amanda van Hesteren’s documentary I Want To Go Higher received the award for best Dutch film. According to the jury, van Hesteren portrays with both tender and critical eyes a social media generation of self-made men and their performance of status and hyper-masculinity. From the jury report, “In an effortless but well-constructed way, the filmmaker manages to move both inside and outside the world of her protagonists, switching between organic self-representation and astute observation. “Van Hesteren wins a cash prize of €5,000, made possible by advocacy organization Vevam, and is hereby also longlisted for the Oscars. A special mention went to Centre, Ring, Mall by Mateo Vega.
European Competition
For the second year in a row, unique in the history of Go Short, Lola Cambourieu and Yann Berlier walked away with the award for best European fiction with their film Lost Children. A film about young father Nathan and his three-year-old daughter who experience a night on the streets full of encounters with men like Nathan, wandering aimlessly and drinking, telling stories about the children they have lost. “A film that took us away, embraced us, moved us,” the jury said.
The award for best European documentary went to When the mountain rumbles by Alba Bresoli. According to the jury, this film about three Spanish brothers proves that if you approach protagonists with dignity and take time for them, you can sense their character and get a peek into their souls. A special mention in this category went to Pruebas by Ardelia Istaru, for its courage in diving into her mother’s memories in a sensitive and non-judgmental way.
Stephen Vuillemin’s extraordinary animation A Kind of Testament creates an unexpected and bizarre world of investigation, digital privacy and proximity to strangers. Moving surprisingly between comedy and horror, the film tells a story that doesn’t need an ending. Instead, it takes us on a journey across the surreality of everyday life. The professional jury rewarded it for this achievement with the Go Short Award for best animation. A special mention went to Trace van Aspurah Petrov.
New Arrivals Competition
The Incentive Award for Best European Student Film worth €1,000, went to
Bear (Ours) by Morgane Frund. This up-and-coming talent was praised for her courageous film about the process of filmmaking in the face of disappointment. A special mention went to 8 by Anaïs-Tohé Commaret. A dark-magic film that sharply uses image and sound to reveal escape from a harsh environment through dreams and fantasies
European Film Awards
Chords a film about strength in times of adversity was nominated by the jury as a candidate for the European Film Awards. “The voices of women from a choir, surrounded by a monster, which grows more and more – the monster of extraction and accumulation. The voices, and the silence, because sometimes it’s too much, it’s too big, it’s impossible. But the silence of the old woman, the protagonist, who at some point will say “no,” will not give up, will not let go, but will sing, will laugh and live, despite the monster. For that, for her, for her face, her simple presence, at the end of the film, we remain full of bitterness, but full of life. And yes, the voices remain, we will not forget them, we cannot forget them.” This is why Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren’s Spanish Chords received this important candidacy.
Eye Tunes: music video competition
Eleven music videos competed against each other for the Go Short Award for best music video. Maïa Taïeb walked away with the win with her video MDR (Men Dominated Reality). MDR was born after an urge to talk about teenage feelings mixed with modern social and political issues. According to the expert jury, witty lyrics combined with the aesthetics of the early 2000s in this female-dominated music video make for an unconventional music video that critiques male-dominated reality.
Youth Award
A special youth jury threw itself into the task of choosing the most appealing film for young people, which was rewarded with €500. The jury was most impressed by Thank you for your patience! by Simon van der Zande. In the film, you witness a tense bus ride in Brussels, where Samuel – a Congolese immigrant – boards to express his dissatisfaction with Europe. A special mention went to Tim Bary’s documentary Luc. A portrait of 15-year-old Lucas who runs away from a secure youth care facility to experience his cherished freedom one last time before he has to report back to the authorities.
Audience Award
The audience wholeheartedly agreed with the youth jury’s choice. Thank you for your patience! by Simon van der Zande was rated the highest by them and thus chosen as the winner of the Audience Award.
All winning films can still be viewed during Easter.

European Competition
Still from Casablanca to Return, Pedro Sara
41 international titles are eligible for the Go Short Awards in the fiction, documentary and animation categories. The winners will be shortlisted for the Academy Awards, giving them a chance to win a prestigious Oscar.
According to Go Short’s selection committee, it is notable that many films focus on messy lives and conflicting morals in these turbulent times. They do not paint a unified picture and are not there to make grand statements.
The European Competition will be judged by a jury of film professionals from around the world; from award-winning filmmakers to programmers from renowned film festivals. This jury will be announced at a later date.
Still from I want to go Higher, Amanda van Hesteren
For the Dutch Competition, Go Short selected 21 films. A standout film within this competition is I want to go higher. We follow filmmaker Amanda van Hesteren who goes on vacation with a group of models, Instagrammers and kickboxers. Through the luxury, macho culture and deep emptiness, the vulnerability of these guys is well portrayed.
The selected films are eligible for the Go Short VEVAM award. VEVAM is the copyright organization for directors of film and television works in the Netherlands. They have been committed to Go Short for years. This VEVAM award is an incentive award for Dutch talent and provides a connection.
Still from Thank you for your Patience! by Simon van der Zande
The New Arrivals Competition consists of the best 21 films made by film students. These films come from film schools all over Europe. In this international competition no less than three Dutch films compete for the Encouragement Award.
The selection committee has noticed that this year, many films in the New Arrivals Competition of a high standard have been made by female filmmakers in this competition. The number of non-binary makers also exceeds the number of male makers.
The Dutch Competition and the New Arrivals Competition are judged by an international jury that includes a programmer from the Venice Film Festival and a former winner of the Go Short Awards.
During the festival, there are two other competitions that are well worth attending, including the Music Video Competition. Music videos are increasingly a playground for cinematic innovation and an experience to watch on the big screen in a movie theater. A specially appointed youth jury will also choose the winner of the Youth Competition from all the competitions.
To view the entire program with all selected competition films, visit goshort.nl/program2023. Regular ticket sales begin March 15, but anniversary passes are already available for only €30 each.

The little black dress—or LBD, as we more commonly like to say—has endured through decades, even centuries, of style because it’s a blank canvas that we can reinvent over and over again. The same LBD can be made sophisticated and elegant for a night out, then practical for a day of work. It’s why Vogue editors declared in 1926 that a black sheath dress by a young designer named Coco Chanel would “become sort of a uniform for all women of taste.” But as The Atlanticreports, the irony is that Chanel was actually jumping on a trend she dubbed la pauvreté de luxe, or “luxurious poverty.” That is, the practice of wealthy women co-opting the uniforms of the servants, shop girls, and other working-class women around them.
Today, the LBD—be it a silk slip dress for spring, a breezy linen style for summer, or a knit mini for the cooler months—is regarded as a tried-and-true wardrobe essential. And whatever your personal style or day-to-day needs may be, there’s a little black dress for you. Below, we’ve shopped out 21 of the best little black dresses available. Buy them now and enjoy wearing them for years to come—because as we’ve learned, the LBD never goes out of style.

TONIGHT IN THEATERS! If you don’t know Little Richard, you will because director Lisa Cortés holds nothing back in Little Richard: I Am Everything. The filmmaker reveals the legendary rock star’s life and his infinite influence on popular music and entertainment culture in her multi-faceted documentary. She educates and explains the depths, passion, and dedication of Little Richard, born Richard Wayne Penniman, one of 12 children in Macon, Georgia, poor and black but raised by a devoted, religious mother with an estranged father.
Little Richard was committed to his art and musical talent once he discovered singing in church and playing the piano at a very early age. But, it would not be long before his influence would be known throughout the world, especially with the multitude of rock stars whom he touched, including Mick Jagger, David Bowie, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix, among many others. Of course, there’s also the endless amount of celebrated music and art legends, including filmmaker John Waters, whose mustache is his “twisted” homage to Little Richard.
The energy and enthusiasm that propelled Little Richard into the spotlight and his constant drive to explore and break boundaries were enormous, just like his personality. But, once on the road to success, even as a queer black man from the segregated South, he never stopped caring about people nor let anyone bother him or take him down. Sadly, there were plenty of bigots out there ready to crush him.
Little Richard appears in Little Richard: I Am Everything by Lisa Cortes, an official selection of the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Courtesy of Sundance Institute
“…explains the depths, passion, and dedication of Little Richard, born Richard Wayne Penniman…”
The story of Little Richard: I Am Everything is supported by fantastic research, interviews, archival images and footage, and wise scholars who deconstruct the many levels of the famed musician. They pinpoint a post-World War II economy, government, and culture where things were changing as the factors allowing Little Richard to flourish. There is also a focus on how and why he existed in a tormented state. Little Richard struggled with his relationship with God in his life, as well as being queer.
Even though Little Richard’s music never gets old with hits that include “Tutti Frutti,” “Lucille,” and “Good Golly Miss Molly,” his iconic existence with his powerful piano playing, stage presence, and persona prevail even more. Hilarious clips of Pat Boone singing Little Richard’s songs are almost too ridiculous to believe they are real. His coined line, “shut up,” was accepted and cherished, and he knew being flamboyant was here to stay, which the film honors on many levels. Of course, Little Richard had influencers who inspired his look and music. He also had a drug addiction. Yet, he was different from any other artist in the rise of rock ‘n’ roll music as a genre and acceptance of all people and their sexuality, which Cortés covers in great length, including interviews with Billy Porter, among others.
However, Little Richard suffered from a very real sense of unappreciated leadership, which eventually was addressed by receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award as an architect for rock ‘n’ roll, finally getting what he deserved. Cortés’s devotion to creating a film in honor and respect of Little Richard is also one of achievement and understanding for those who have been marginalized for being who they are. Although there are times when the glitter effects present throughout Little Richard: I Am Everything are a bit over the top, her inclusion of a new generation of artists who look to Little Richard as part of their work was much appreciated. It brilliantly connects the past, present, and future.
The Dalai Lama has apologised after an unsettling video appeared on social media in which he kissed a young Indian boy on the lips before asking him to ‘suck’ his tongue.
Footage of the uncomfortable incident showed the moment the Tibetan spiritual leader invited the boy on stage during a charity event at his temple in Dharamshala, India in February.
In the video, the boy asks the Dalai Lama ‘can I hug you?’, to which Tenzin Gyatso responds: ‘Okay – come!’
The spiritual leader first asks the boy to kiss him on the cheek, before pointing at his lips. He holds the boy’s face as they briefly kiss, then the pair press their foreheads together.
Just as the boy goes to pull away, the Dalai Lama instructs him: ‘And suck my tongue’ – prompting him to slowly inch forward towards the 87-year-old’s outstretched tongue.
The Dalai Lama has apologised after a unsettling video appeared on social media in which he kissed a young Indian boy on the lips before asking him to ‘suck’ his tongue
Some supporters of the Dalai Lama sprang to his defence, claiming their leader was simply ‘joking around’
Others went as far as to describe the Dalai Lama as an ‘insidious false prophet’ while one user called for him to ‘be arrested for paedophilia’
Attendees of the event, held by India‘s M3M Foundation, can be heard laughing as the boy sits awkwardly in front of the aged Tibetan Buddhist leader and nervously follows his orders.
Before letting the child go, the Dalai Lama imparts some wisdom, telling him to ‘look to those good human beings who create peace, happiness’ and not to ‘follow those human beings who always kill other people’.
Some supporters of the Dalai Lama sprang to his defence, claiming their leader was simply ‘joking around’.
But the clip has sparked outrage on social media, with commentators branding the Dalai Lama’s actions ‘scandalous’, ‘disgusting’ and ‘absolutely sick’.
Others went as far as to describe him as an ‘insidious false prophet’.
‘Utterly shocked to see this display by the #DalaiLama. In the past too, he’s had to apologise for his sexist comments. But saying “now suck my tongue” to a small boy is disgusting,’ wrote user Sangita.
Another poster, Rakhi Tripathi, said: ‘What did I just see? What that child must be feeling? Disgusting.’
In this file photo taken on December 29, 2022, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama waves during his first day of teaching session at the Kalachakra Ground in Bodhgaya
The office of the spiritual leader posted a formal statement on social media today apologising for his actions.
‘His Holiness wishes to apologise to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused,’ the statement read.
‘His Holiness often teases the people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras,’ it added.
‘He regrets the incident.’
The Dalai Lama remains the universally recognised face of the movement for Tibetan autonomy.
But the global spotlight he enjoyed after winning the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize has dimmed and the deluge of invitations to hobnob with world leaders and Hollywood stars has slowed, partly because the ageing leader has cut back on his punishing travel schedule, but also due to China’s growing economic and political clout.
Beijing accuses him of wanting to split China, and has referred to him as a ‘wolf in a monk’s robe’.
The Dalai Lama was forced to apologise in 2019 for saying that any woman who succeeded him ‘should be more attractive’
Just weeks ago, the spiritual leader courted more controversy when he named an eight-year-old boy with joint US and Mongolian nationality as the reincarnation of the third most important spiritual leader in Tibetan Buddhism
The formal title of the child, who is said to have a twin, is the tenth Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoché – the third most important spiritual leader in Tibetan Buddhism and the faith’s leader in Mongolia, according to The Times.
Rumours about the boy’s identity had swirled around the spiritual community for years, but his existence has only now been confirmed with his public appearance in India, where the Dalai Lama lives in exile.
The unveiling sparked fury in China, which previously said it will only recognise Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leaders their special government-approved appointees have chosen.
Millie Bobby Brown, 19, is engaged to her boyfriend Jake Bongiovi, 20, after over one year of dating. The Stranger Things star shared the big news on Instagram on April 11. She subtly revealed that Jon Bon Jovi‘s son popped the question by debuting a diamond ring on her left hand in a black and white photo that appeared to be taken after the proposal. In the pic, Jake’s arms are wrapped around Millie’s neck, with her hands resting on them to put the ring on full display. “I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, I want ’em all,” she captioned the photo, quoting “Lover” by Taylor Swift.
Millie and Jake actually first sparked engagement rumors in August 2022. The British actress was seen wearing a gold band on her ring finger while she and Jake explored New York City’s Little Italy. Millie flashed the shiny ring, which was captured in photos by the paparazzi, though the pair didn’t confirm that they were engaged at the time. However, this new rock appears to feature a bigger, circular diamond atop a thin band.
Ever since they started dating in June 2021, Millie and Jake have shared so many special moments together. On Christmas Day 2021, Millie shared a sweet selfie with her beau in which they were cuddled up in Christmas sweaters. “Happy holidays,” she wrote. In February 2022, they dressed as Barbie and Ken together to ring in Millie’s 18th birthday. And in March, they made their official red-carpet debut as a couple at the 2022 BAFTAs. Two months later, Jake was by Millie’s side at the Stranger Things 4 premiere in Brooklyn, New York.

Prior to the couple’s engagement, HollywoodLife learned that Jake’s entire family, including his dad Jon and his mom Dorothea Hurley, overwhelmingly approve of Millie. “A lot of people believe that Jake and Millie are just experiencing young puppy love and that it won’t last, but Jake’s parents know that it can last because they were the same ages as Jake and Millie when they started dating in 1989 – and they have been together ever since!” a source close to Jon EXCLUSIVELY revealed. “Millie has met Jake’s entire family and they all adore her. They couldn’t be happier that he with such a beautiful, caring, and loving woman.”
A new advanced shortcut called S-GPT will let you integrate ChatGPT into the native system features of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS.
The conversational shortcut comes from Federico Viticci who has developed the shortcut to be free to everyone (though you will need to set up an OpeeAI pay-as-you-go billing plan) and hopes the new shortcut will make ChatGPT integration a lot easier.
S-GPT (which stands for Shortcuts-GPT) takes advantage of Open AI’s developer API which comes at a small cost, explaining why you will need access to the PAYG billing. The shortcut was built with the latest ChatGPT API but can be used with the existing ChatGPT 3.5 model and ChatGPT 4 if you have access.
(Image credit: Federico Viticci via MacSTories)
From the screenshots posted by Viticci, the integration is pretty good, it resembles normal iPhone apps on mobile and pops up like a Siri notification almost. It only supports text though the developer assures users that “there are no limits in terms of question length”.
The shortcut supports conversational mode so you can use it just as you would on a computer, asking questions and follow-up questions in the same ‘session’ – S-GPT retains the context of previous conversations and allows you to look at each conversation you have as a single transcript.
With S-GPT, I wanted to start building a bridge between ChatGPT and Apple’s OSes.
Federico Viticci
Viticci explains that the drive to create this funny shortcut was to make the integration more than just getting answers to trivia questions or writing mediocre poems. The idea was also fueled by the integration ChatGPT has with Windows and Viticci’s reluctant admission that the same probably won’t ever be true on Apple Platforms.
The outcome of this hard work is definitely promising. We see on the page how S-GPT is able to answer a command to make a playlist with specific artists. ChatGPT then understands (used losslessly of course) what you’re asking, passes back a list of songs to S-GPT, and asks you to name the playlist. Then boom, when you go to the Music App the playlist is waiting for you.
(Image credit: Federico Viticci via Macstories)
This is only a brief overview of what S-GPT can do and safe to say we’re incredibly impressed. Vittici compares S-GPT to Siri who unfortunately falls short but it does showcase how behind Apple may be in the AI race. Apple has so far made no moves to even touch the likes of ChatGPT or get started on their own like Google Bard, so it would make sense for developers like Viticci to step up and give the people what they want.

On April 8, the 56-year-old actor was the envy of Instagram after posting a stunning nude photo while sipping a glass of wine on a romantic wrought iron balcony, her brown hair cascading over one shoulder in loose waves. It was all very Under the Tuscan Sun of her, with one fan commenting, “Looks like a cover from a romantic novel, one where a woman fell in love with herself wholeheartedly.”
However, not everyone had such a positive response to the artful nude. “Imagine being in your 50s, still posting nudes for attention in menopause when you should be chilling with your grandkids,” one Twitter user wrote on the social media platform. “Aging with dignity is no longer a thing.”
Clearly, this person didn’t read Berry’s original Instagram caption, which read, “I do what I wanna do.” Even so, Berry made it clear how little she cares about the unsolicited comment by quote-tweeting the rude post with a little fun fact. On April 9, she replied, “Did you guys know the heart of a shrimp is located in its head?”
As Audra McDonald replied to Berry’s tweet, “You won the internet today with this clap back.”

Online bullies should know by now that Berry is all about practicing self-love at every age. On March 22, the Oscar winner shared a set of postshower selfies in front of a fogged-up mirror. “Hump day self love,” she captioned the smiley snaps. On her 56th birthday in August 2022, she posed in lacy black lingerie, writing, “Feeling so much gratitude and love on this birthday! WOW!”

Aashiqui star Rahul Roy suffered from a brain stroke back in 2020, while he was shooting for LAC- Live the Battle in Kargil.

My recovery journey was a combination of medical treatment, speech therapy, and immense support from my loved ones. I took the time to prioritise my physical and mental well-being, and followed a disciplined routine of exercise, diet, and meditation.”
Back in 2020, Rahul suffered a brain stroke, while he was shooting for LAC — Live the Battle in Kargil. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he underwent angiography of the brain and heart. Later, he was admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital in the ICU on November 27, 2020.
Speaking of Walk, the film recently won the Best Feature Film Award at the Jammu Film Festival on April 9. The story revolves around the hard journey of migrant workers during the pandemic-induced lockdown. Rahul had earlier shared that he was excited to be a part of the film and portray the emotional nuances of his journey. But now, as part of a Disney100 Celebration limited-time engagement, Disney and Marvel Studios are making this MCU reference a reality.
First Look at Disneyland’s Rogers: The Musical
Captain America: The First Avenger
Back in February, Disney released a teaser for Rogers: The Musical coming to the Disneyland Resort showing Peggy Carter with the musical’s playbill in hand.
Now, Disney unveiled a first look at this real-world production, as well as a few spoilery details.
Disney
As the concept art shows, Disney’s Rogers: The Musical will show highlight Steve Rogers’ Captain America origin story.
However, despite being a one-act show, the production also revisits Cap’s Avengers: Endgame time-traveling adventures, his romance with Peggy Carter, and, just like in Hawkeye, his role in the Battle of New York from 2012’s The Avengers.
Joining Cap, the Avengers, and Peggy is Nick Fury who, according to Disney, fans will be singing.
Rogers: The Musical‘s song list includes “Save the City” from Hawkeye, “Star Spangled Man” from Captain America: The First Avenger, and five new original songs.
The show runs for 30 minutes from Tuesday through Saturday most weeks at the Hyperion Theater at the Disney California Adventure.
The following is a look at the theater’s newly updated marquee:
More Rogers: The Musical News To Come
Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater is conveniently (and appropriately) located next to the park’s Avengers Campus.
However, it’s important to note that, unlike Avengers Campus itself, Disney describes Rogers: The Musical as a limited-time event and not a permanent addition.
The show is also short, clocking in at just 30 minutes. The fact that Disney intends to retell Cap’s MCU journey through “Save the City,” “Star-Spangled Man,” and five brand-new songs suggest a fast-paced show but still one Marvel fans will have to see.
In addition to the musical stylings of Nick Fury, no doubt MCU audiences will want to know how Cap’s Endgame adventures are retold through song.
Disney intends to release show dates and times, as well as Rogers: The Musical-themed merch, in the coming weeks.
As Titans on HBO Max wraps up, fans can say goodbye to the show’s iterations of certain characters with new posters released online.
With its cancellation seeming to be one of the final nails in the coffin of the DCU as it has existed until now, Titans was hanging on by a thread between the announcement of James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s DC reboot and its aforementioned cancellation.
Titans as a show has been controversial to say the least, with its relationship to the Teen Titans comics being analogous to Riverdale‘s with the Archie Comics that inspired it. However, the show’s fanbase was strong, carrying it through four full seasons, including a transition from the DC Universe streaming service to HBO Max when the streaming service became defunct.
Be it in celebration or memorial as the show reaches a close, DC released new posters for three key characters ahead of the upcoming finale episodes on April 13.
New Titans Posters For Finale
As Titans ramps up to its final episodes on April 13, fans were given a new look at three of the show’s heroes online.
All of the posters are bisected images of the hero they depict, with one side a standard picture and the other a smeared, cosmic look.
HBO Max
The first poster showcases Joshua Orpin as Superboy (Conner Kent), one of the only non-comics iterations of the clone developed from the combined DNA of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor.
Superboy’s look on the poster emphasizes the two aspects of his identity, with the Lex-like bald head and the classic Superman symbol on his shirt. In fact, the black shirt with the red symbol is one of the biggest constants about this character in the different media he has appeared in, be it from the comics, Young Justice or Titans.
HBO Max
The next poster features Jay Lycurgo as Tim Drake, the third Robin in both the comics and on the show. Bo staff in hand and donning one of the most comic-accurate suits on the show, Tim looks heroic as ever in the new poster.
This look in the show marks the first time Tim has been suited up as Robin in live action, with the character having appeared previously in some animated media outside of comics as well.
HBO Max
The third poster highlights Teagan Croft‘s Raven (Rachel Roth), the only of the three featured characters to have been with the show since its start. Raven’s look has evolved drastically since her earlier appearances, with her original look being more in-line with her comics counterpart’s classic, goth look.
However, Raven’s white outfit seen in the poster, and featured in the show’s more recent storylines, does also have some comics precedent, and represents the evolution of her character as the show reaches its end.
Featured Characters Before Titans Finishes
Perhaps, these posters indicate the three featured characters having significant storylines in Titans‘ fourth season’s second part. While the show originally focused on an amalgamation of the original comics core four, and the New Teen Titans team, it has evolved to showcase Titans from many different eras.
As such, with just these three characters getting a bit of focus in the advertising, it is hard to speculate on what more is in store for them, as they come from two different eras of Titans stories.
Whereas Raven fits that original amalgamation, Conner and Tim come from the ’90s era of Young Justice, later becoming Teen Titans themselves.
Ultimately, though, fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see the conclusion of their stories, as the final episodes of Titans release on HBO Max on Thursday, April 13.

Each can be powered using a USB Type-C source, or they can be powered using a separately available L-series type battery using their battery plates.
The Mars 300 set also includes an accessory expansion plate, a shoe mount, and a USB Type-C cable.
The Accsoon CineView HE is a multi-spectrum wireless video transmission system that allows you to send a 1080p60 camera signal to the included receiver plus up to three mobile devices. It’s a cost-effective way of allowing four people on set to monitor an HDMI camera signal.
The transmitter can send a signal to a total of four devices simultaneously over distances up to 1200′ with only a 60ms delay. You can also transmit to any mix of up to four receivers and iOS/Android smartphones and tablets using dual-band wireless signals. The app also provides image tools such as peaking, zebras, false color for exposure, and cube 3D LUT overlay.
For power, the transmitter and receiver feature DC and USB Type-C power inputs, and they also support an optional L-series battery that can power the set for up to 12 hours.
If you need more than just HDMI, the CineView SEfeatures an HDMI and SDI output for a more versatile setup.
Teradek was one of the first video transmission options on the market and has become an industry standard. Unfortunately, all that comes at a price. However, you’ll get some solid features that the other tools on this list just can’t provide.
The Teradek Bolt 4K LT 750 can wirelessly receive up to 4K30 video with 10-bit 4:2:2 HDR support. The transmitter also inputs up to 4K video over HDMI or up to 1080p60 video via 3G-SDI, and the receiver outputs video via HDMI and 3G-SDI.
The system features improved metadata, range, and compatibility over its predecessors. The built-in AES-256 encryption with RSA 1024 key pairing protects your video from prying eyes, while noise rejection keeps your video clean no matter how many devices are using the wireless spectrum. The Bolt LT system also supports the transmission of timecodes and start/stop triggers from the camera.

In a major win for the box office as it continues to level out following the pandemic, The Super Mario Bros. Movie shattered numerous records in its opening across North America and 70 international markets over the long Easter holiday weekend.
The movie blasted past even the most bullish expectations to earn $204.6 million in its five-day domestic debut (April 5-9), including $146.4 million for the three-day weekend. Overseas, it pulled in $171 million for an astounding worldwide start of $375.6 million, the best showing of the year to date on all fronts.
The adaptation of the iconic Nintendo video game played like an all-audience tentpole, versus a PG-rated animated family film, thanks to the consumers of all ages who have played the Super Mario Bros. series and its many offshoots through the decades.
“Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto’s Mario has been a cultural icon that has captivated generations,” says Universal domestic distribution chief Jim Orr, who handled the release of the movie alongside Universal’s president of international distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie brought in an incredibly broad and enthusiastic audience to theaters around the world this weekend.”
It likely won’t be long before Illumination and parent company Universal, along with partner Nintendo, announce a sequel. Super Mario is the latest win for Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment, home of hit animation franchises Despicable Me and Minions.
Below are the records set by The Super Mario Bros. Movie, not adjusted for inflation.
Biggest Worldwide Opening of All Time for an Animated Film Super Mario passed up the global debut of Walt Disney Animation’s Frozen 2, which skated to $358 million in November 2019, not long before the COVID-19 crisis struck. And already, Super Mario is the fourth-highest-grossing animated title of the pandemic era, with Universal claiming all four spots (the studio owns both Illumination and DreamWorks Animation). Minions: The Rise of Gru tops the list ($942.5 million), followed by sleeper hit Puss in Boots: The Last Wish ($480.4 million) and Sing 2 ($412.8 million). At this rate, Mario could be the first billion-dollar grosser of 2023.
Second-Biggest Domestic Opening of All Time for an Animated Film The comedic romp laughed past Pixar’s Finding Dory ($135.1 million) to rank only behind Incredibles 2 ($183 million) on the list of top weekend bows.
Second-Biggest International Opening of All Time for an Animated Film Frozen 2 remains No. 1 with a foreign launch of $228.2 million. Super Mario certainly set its fair share of records overseas, including landing the biggest animated opening of all time in Mexico ($27.4 million), as well as the best-ever start for any Universal film and the third best for any Hollywood pic. It scored the best animated opening in 10 other foreign markets, including Brazil ($6.9 million), as well as ranking as the top video game adaptation in 42 markets, the biggest Illumination start in 27 markets and the biggest Universal opening in 10 markets, including previews.
Biggest Opening of All Time for a Video Game Adaptation Hollywood has always had a hard time with the genre, although there have been recent success stories, led by Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog series. Until now, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 topped the list of best openers among video game adaptations with a three-day domestic debut of $72.1 million (that was considered a huge sum, considering the box office recovery was still in its early days.) Super Mario also scored the biggest global opening of any video game adaptation after besting Warcraft ($210 million) in like-for-like markets. Sonic 2 had a staggered international rollout, making comparisons impossible.
Biggest Opening of 2023 to Date It’s quite an accomplishment to trump a Marvel superhero film, but Super Mario did just that in buzzing past Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which debuted globally to $225.3 million, including $106.1 million In North America and $117.1 million overseas. While a series best, Quantumaniaquickly lost its momentum.
Top Opening in Illumination’s History Despicable Me 2 was previously Illumination’s biggest global launch, with $208 million in like-for-like markets, while Minions had topped the list of best domestic openers with a three-day weekend of $115.7 million.
Fourth Biggest Global Day-and-Date Opening in Universal History Furious 7 ($398 million), Jurassic World ($525 million) and Fast 8: The Fate of the Furious ($543 million) are the only films to have done more. Quite the feat.
Top Five-Day Domestic Opening for a Wednesday-Sunday Launch Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen was the previous record-holder with $200.1 million.
Top Animated Opening of All Time for Imax The premium large-format exhibitor scoured up $21.6 million globally and $16.6 million domestically, both records. Overseas, Super Mario delivered all-time Imax bests for an animated film in 22 markets, including the U.K., Germany, Brazil and Mexico, and all-time Imax bests for any film in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Curacao.
A+E Networks has made two high-profile appointments in London as part of an initiative to expand its international coproduction activities.
Ninder Billing is appointed VP of unscripted co-productions international. Alexandra Finlay is appointed VP scripted co-productions international. Both report to Patrick Vien, group MD, A+E International.
Billing was previously creative director at Darlow Smithson Productions, leading the premium factual slate focusing on streamer, international and U.K. terrestrial unscripted output and securing six new unscripted series. Prior to DSP, she was head of specialist factual at The Garden where she launched and oversaw BAFTA-nominated “Operation Live” for Channel 5, “Police Tapes” for ITV and “The Unshockable Dr Ronx” for the BBC.
Finlay spent her previous five years at Shaftesbury as VP creative and co-productions, where her credits include the upcoming comedy drama “SisterS” for IFC/Sundance, Crave and RTE by Sarah Goldberg and Susan Stanley. Prior to that she was head of acquisitions and co-productions at broadcaster UKTV.
They are expected to be responsible for identifying opportunities with global appeal and overseeing development and production, working in close collaboration with the company’s extensive network of producers, creatives and commissioning partners.
“They join A+E Networks at a time when co-productions are growing in global appeal, and the company is poised to play a leadership role in the industry,” said Vien. “Our success with such hit series as ‘Miss Scarlet and the Duke’ (PBS Masterpiece); ‘Red Election’ (Disney+ EMEA) and ‘North Sea Connection’ (BBC), and the premium doc series ‘Damien Lewis: Spy Wars’ (Paramount+), is a testament to our ambition to work with the best talented teams worldwide,” he added.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, a near majority of movie critics don’t like the Super Mario Bros. movie, and guess what. I don’t care.
Even our very own Eric Eisenberg, who I greatly admire and respect, didn’t like the movie. And look, I get it. Does the Super Mario Bros. movie have deep character arcs, a compelling narrative, and rich, universal themes? Well, no, not really.
But, is the Super Mario Bros. movie full of recognizable characters, Easter eggs aplenty, and just a fun overall experience? Oh, hell yes. The Super Mario Bros. movie may not be a great movie, but it’s the perfect video game movie, and here’s why.
Oh, and a sprinkle of light spoilers here or there.

This Movie Was Made For Me!
As an apologist of the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie, I can honestly say that the original movie wasn’t made for me. Or at least, it wasn’t made for the younger version of me who saw the movie in the theater with his dad.
Truthfully, I don’t know who that movie was made for. But, it’s only through years of watching mediocre to outright terrible adaptations that led me to put that oddball, and quite frankly, bold movie on my list of the 10 greatest video game films of all time, which I think says more about the garbage that we’ve had to endure over the years than anything else.
But, while I will admit that I think the first Sonic movie is a better overall flick, I’m overjoyed to admit that the 2023 Super Mario Bros. movie was an overall better movie-going experience. This might be because this was the Mario movie that I always wanted as a child. And, as a man whose inner child needs as many hugs as possible, the Super Mario Bros. movie touched me in ways that I never could have imagined.
From the very first Mario Kart audio cue, I was in. Because this movie truly uses musical and visual cues that any lifelong Nintendo fan will connect with immediately. In that way, the deep cuts feel deeply personal to me. Seeing Glass Joe’s face on a wall, or Mario playing Kid Icarus in his room speaks to me in a way that I don’t think any other film has ever spoken to me before.
I know the critics have said that the movie is just Easter eggs, but in a lot of ways, those Easter eggs MAKE the movie. This isn’t like Transformers or the Ninja Turtles reboots, which warped or changed the characters for a new generation.
This is something else entirely as it’s perfectly comfortable with leaning into its source material, from the early ’80s all the way to current day, which is why any gamer who’s stuck with Mario for all these years will likely be deeply touched by this movie, just like I was.

But It Was Also Made For My Kids
Halfway through the film, my son, who is six, turned to me and said, “This is great!” And yeah, it truly was.
It didn’t surprise me that my son loved it as much as I did, and yet, it kind of did. You see, I introduced my two children to Nintendo as early as I could. I have a really cute picture of my daughter playing with a Kirby doll, and my son’s second birthday was a Mario-themed party, so my kids are already deeply invested in Nintendo, just like I am.
So, when they showed Bowser’s true intentions in the movie, my son said, “Dad! This is just like Super Mario Odyssey!” And, when they had the whole Mario Kart section of the movie, my son said, “Dad! That’s the same music in the game!”
And, that’s the thing. This movie pulls from all of Mario’s history, so there was really something for every Mario fan in attendance. My only complaint is that there were key characters who were absent that my daughter really wanted to see, but I guess those characters are what the possible sequel will be for.

The Animation Is Gorgeous
I was there for the 8-bit era. I was there for the 16-bit era. I was there for the blocky 64-bit era, the more refined GameCube era, the slightly better looking Wii and Wii U eras, and I’m here for the current Switch era. Hell, I was even there for the black and red Virtual Boy era.
All this is to say that I’ve been there for every iteration of Mario, and he has never looked this good.
This is important from an animation standpoint, as I actually don’t think any animated film has ever looked this good (aside from the upcoming Across the Spider-Verse, which I can’t wait for — have you seen that trailer?!). And, I think this is yet another reason why this movie should be applauded.
It’s a new milestone in computer animation, and I can only dream of what a Mario game would be like if it actually looked this good. The Switch 2 (or whatever the next Nintendo console will be) can’t get here soon enough!

The Voice Acting Was Incredible
So, it turns out that all the backlash concerning Chris Pratt’s voice as Mario turned out to be hogwash. But, what else is new? Chris Pratt did a wonderful job as Mario, as did all of the cast. I loved Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, I loved Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, I loved Charlie Day as Luigi, and I loved, loved, LOVED Jack Black as Bowser. Hell, I was even on board for Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Seth Rogen laugh and all.
And, this is no small feat, as I’ve known these characters for my entire life. So, if anybody was going to be hard to please, it was me. But, guess what! I was pleased! So, even though the plot was nothing special, the fact that these characters were brought to life in a brand new way (and still felt incredibly faithful to their in-game characters) is worth its weight in gold coins for me.

Last but not least, the Super Mario Bros. movie gets me SUPER pumped for other potential Nintendo movies. I didn’t feel this way about the Sonic movies, as I viewed those more in a vacuum, but I definitely feel this way about a future Nintendo universe where we could potentially see The Legend of Zelda, Luigi’s Mansion, and (be still, my heart) my beloved Metroid as future movies.
Honestly, the Super Mario Bros. movie succeeded for me since it proved that some of my favorite games of all time could finally have faithful and loving adaptations made about them.
Because it’s clear that the people behind the Super Mario Bros. movie are massive fans of the series (I mean, Mario’s papa himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, helped with the project). So, the idea of a Star Fox,Pikmin, or an Avengers-level Super Smash Bros. movie with the same love and attention as the Mario movie just fills me with so much joy and hope, you have no idea!
So, yeah. The critics didn’t love the Super Mario Bros. movie, but I sure did, and I don’t care what the critics think this time around. But, what did you think? For more news on all things Mario, be sure to swing by here often!

Last week, Paul beat Ozzie senseless to appease Perkins. After he returned home, we assume Perkins’ crew finished the job and made a late-night stop at the shoe graveyard outside the convenience store. The shoes are a bad omen that spread a sinister atmosphere throughout the episode. This exposition-heavy installment of Mason, while light on revelation, is hopefully setting us up for the final stages of the case. But after last week, “Chapter Fourteen” feels like a comedown, stalling for time as we get to the all-too-quick final reveal.
Despite last week’s break-in, Perry’s doing alright. Milligan’s resting their case, and Perry bought a big, honkin’ chain to keep his apartment locked. He’s not the only one who’s a little closed off. Anita asked Della to move in with her, forcing her to make an adult decision and cut ties with Hazel, something she doesn’t seem ready to do. The way Anita reassures Della that “lots of women” share apartments is another indication that the series plans to deepen their relationship rather than exclusively viewing them through the prism of oppression, like Mad Men’s Sal Romano. It’s refreshing to see a period show that allows its gay characters the dignity of living a life outside of the closet.
While Della’s feeling confident in court, there are bad vibes all over the episode. Della sees her old boy Ham Burger (just the absolute wildest name since Oliver Twist’s “Master Bates”—Erle Stanley Gardner, you absolute madman) and gives him the “blink twice if you’re in danger” routine. He shrugs it off with a not-so-reassuring “Good luck with your case.” Della and Burger (mmm…Dellaburger) is a thread that can’t unravel fast enough. Justin Kirk has looked like he’s been dealing with an ulcer for two weeks now, and the people demand answers.
Speaking of the unexpected relationship turns, that sorry sack of potatoes Holcomb is back, having just about the worst morning a corrupt cop-turned-gambling-ship-impresario can ask for because the Moroccan’s electricity is out, and Paul’s serving subpoenas. So it’s time for Holcomb to put his tail between his legs and beg Perry for help, arriving at his enemy’s office to find a locksmith screwing in a lousy deadbolt. Holcomb offers Perry the advice of installing a “double cylinder,” a suggestion Perry should’ve taken.
A chronic sufferer of being awake too long, Holcomb cannot testify without flushing his life down the toilet and hopes to avoid the L.A. sewer system by bargaining his way out of testifying. So he offers Perry a massive—but very bizarre—piece of evidence at the beach in exchange for avoiding the stand. Holcomb can go on living his miserable, pathetic life, and Perry gets a new puzzle piece to fit. Rhys dismisses Holcomb’s pleas with abject disdain, scrunching his chin, shaking his head, and shrugging his shoulders. Whatever professional respect one might assume these two might have for each other is gone. Lange’s compelling and sympathetic performance just isn’t working with Mason.
Mason offers another deal: He’ll go to the beach with Holcomb in exchange for Noreen’s medical records from San Haven. True to his word, Holcomb snips a dangling thread in the case and hands over the file, which contains photos of Noreen when she was committed to San Haven, with marks around her neck that look suspiciously like Brooks’ belt.
This episode was a mixed bag, but there was at least one stand-out scene: Della’s cross-examination. As Perry dives into questioning, Della requests a chance at the stand with Councilman Taylor, Noreen’s brother and a key witness in their defense. As in the fingerprint testimony last week, the show’s courtroom scenes are as gripping and surprising as ever, with an unassuming Juliet Rylance leading the procession. Episode director Nina Lopez-Corrado makes it clear how shocking this scandal would’ve felt in 1933, which Della, of course, weaponizes, playing to the female jurors by wrapping the belt around her neck and squeezing, with the episode cutting to the server from the Moroccan jolting as the belt tightens. She remembers that side of Brooks, too.
With two episodes left, the case looks like it’s coming together. Della’s cross-examination was a homerun, thanks to Holcomb. As per the deal, Perry will go to the beach with him. No guns, just rotten fruit covered in oil. The McCutcheons were hiding this, though we have no idea why. At least we know why Holcomb was asking about seagulls.

Even with Della knocking a few dingers in court, Milligan’s prosecution has the upper hand. As we probably should’ve expected, Pete Strickland was behind the mysterious assembly of the model train last week. We see him in a hilarious but relatable bit of screen violence as he tries again to break into Perry’s home. (The soundtrack underscores Pete jamming his fingers with a screeching discordant note that expresses the pain of getting a finger caught in a door beautifully.) After being foiled by Perry’s big-ass chain and negged by Milligan, Pete, we assume, decides to try his hand at tossing Mason’s office for evidence. We hate to say it, but when a scumbag like Holcomb gives you security advice, take it. Unfortunately, Pete found the pistol in Perry’s safe, which throws the case and the episode into disarray.
The gun reveal happened a hair too quickly, especially when the prosecution knew or assumed it was the murder weapon. Why couldn’t this just have been a gun in the safe? It seems risky to bust out in court and definitively call it the murder weapon. It took Paul a lot of investigation to confirm, and the prosecution hasn’t even done ballistics yet. Ultimately, this reveal was a little sloppy for the typically clever Mason.
Still, the case is straining everyone’s relationships. Earlier, Paul ruined date night by accosting someone in orange All-Stars. This was a little domestic amuse bouche to Della and Hazel’s break-up, which mostly happens off-screen, and finally, Perry’s late-night accusations at Ginny’s apartment. After Milligan presents the gun to the judge, Perry immediately heads to Ginny’s and accuses her of giving the gun to the cops. Earlier in the episode, she repeats a line Della used to describe Perry’s new beau. Now he assumes she heard about the gun and gave it to the prosecution. In contrast to the lovely Japanese dinner earlier in the episode, the fight feels realistic and scary—even if the motivation is more difficult to swallow.
And with that, the episode comes full circle: Paul standing under the same telephone wire the bloody shoes once hung. He’s tracked down the mysterious car connected to Brooks’ murder and the guy wearing Ozzie’s shoes but they slip through his fingers.
The shoes are a perfect symbol of Paul’s internal conflict about where he’s at in the case. His questionable tactics are now responsible for one man’s death, and now someone else is walking around in that dead man’s shoes. As we said, the shoes are a bad omen, spreading bad vibes and infecting Paul with a short fuse and a suspicious chip on his shoulder. He’s ruining dates, yelling at Mo, and still coming up short. Like Holcomb, he’s got a bunch of puzzle pieces that he can’t quite make fit. We do too.
Stray observations
Title Card Corner: The long shot of the new shoe owner gazing up at the wire was a strangely unsettling image. However, this season has done us one better by making things like ordinary grocery stores integral to everything going on. We have Sonny Gryce to thank for that. When they show the market in the first shot and later on Mo’s stakeout, we have so much insight into the chains of corruption, the internal politics of the trade, and how it relates to the Los Angeles underbelly. These locations take on so much more meaning with that background, allowing the city to come alive in a way that reminds me of The Wire.
One thing I love about Perry and Holcomb’s relationship is that there’s no respect between these two. Perry loathes Holcomb, and we assume the feeling is mutual. However, he was unmoved by Holcomb’s pleas because if the roles were reversed, Holcomb would bury Mason.
“I can recommend a good public defender.”
I’m glad Perry admitted he doesn’t know what’s happening with the fruit because that left me scratching my head, too.
“Do you like seagulls, Mason?”
We assume they’ll explain more about how they knew the gun was the murder weapon in the coming weeks, but it still felt rushed. Maybe it’s because the rest of the season felt so evenly paced and patient with its revelations. Maybe I’m nitpicking. Maybe it’s Maybelline.
Are we supposed to assume the guy in the shoes is important? We know he got those Chucks from a telephone line. Is he just a distraction for a splintering Paul?
I saw some comments about Anita possibly working against Della. This certainly seems like a fair reading considering all the betrayal in this episode. But I hope that’s not the case. To me, Anita, like Camilla Nygaard, reads as Della considering her options, a more fulfilling life away from Perry. There are still episodes left, though.
I’m not sure what to make of the scene where Della smokes pot with Camilla Nygaard. I was even less sure of what to do with it after she passed on the joint. Live a little and succumb to peer pressure, Della. All the cool kids are doing it.
A new documentary about the invisible struggles of Lyme disease will arrive on May 30, in time to mark the end of an annual awareness month around the condition.
“I’m Not Crazy, I’m Sick” will release to paid video-on-demand, from director Elle Brooks-Tao and cinematographer Clair Popkin (who shot the Oscar winning “Free Solo”). Sypher Studios and Fieldhouse Productions are producing. Sypher Studios and Fieldhouse Productions are producing, and will release in association with Global Lyme Alliance. Variety has an exclusive first look at the trailer below.
The project follows three families, as well as WNBA star Elena Delle Donne, battling the disease and the eye-popping costs that treatment and diagnoses impose on patients. The doc was inspired by executive producer Kim Cleworth (“Exposure”) and her family’s journey.
“After six long years of chronic, debilitating illness, my daughter Atty was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2019,” said Cleworth, founder of Fieldhouse. “I was shocked to learn that there are more cases of Lyme every year than HIV/AIDS, West Nile virus and Malaria combined, yet it receives far less funding due to inadequate testing and heavy stigma. Not to mention, treatment isn’t covered by most insurance. Our hope is that this film will be a call-to-action to support those affected by Lyme disease.”
Cleworth and her daughter are on board for Fieldhouse with Nonny de la Peña. Jens Jacob and Jason Pamer are producing for Sypher Studios.
Christopher Meloni, internet boyfriend and longtime “Law & Order” star, has for years advocated for Lyme disease research and relief. He calls the film “harrowing, and “a journey of desperation, misinformation, intransigence and intentional malfeasance by those who set the medical guidelines.”

More important than God! TheMarvelous Mrs. Maisel’sRachel Brosnahan opened up about the relationship between Midge and Lenny — and revealed what she loves most about the fan favorite pairing.
“That relationship has evolved in ways, that as fans will know, I never could have expected. And in fact, I was told was never gonna happen,” Brosnahan, 32, exclusively told Us Weekly on the 2023 PaleyFest red carpet. “But it did. I mean, I do love their relationship. Because when Midge first meets him, he’s, like, a god. He’s someone — he’s like a prophet. He’s a fairy godfather throughout the series. And as the show goes on, as she rises and as she begins to find her way, they’re closer. They’re just such a great match.”
For four seasons, the hit comedy teased fans with the chemistry between Midge (Brosnahan) and fellow comedian Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby). The pair become fast friends after meeting in the back of a cop car during the series premiere. As the show went on, their dynamic continued to flourish as they crossed paths at various gigs. While season 3 hinted that the duo may become something more one day, they kept their distance, never crossing the line into romance.
However, the season 4 finale saw the couple finally give in to their desires and spend a night together in a hotel room. While Brosnahan told Colliderin April 2022 that she was initially hesitant to see Midge and Lenny become anything more than just friends, the House of Cards alum admitted that it ultimately benefited their character development.
“I love that they get together as equals and completely on their own terms, and I love that it’s funny and lovely,” Brosnahan gushed to the outlet of the hotel scene. “If they were ever gonna get together, despite initially being adamantly against it, I couldn’t be more happy that that’s the way they chose to do it. I should never have been surprised that they would have nailed the landing. It was so fun.”

“I’m always a sucker for people going for it,” the Gossip Girl alum said ahead of the season 4 premiere. “You know, what’s the point of saying goodbye? We’re all gonna have to say goodbye eventually [so] spend the night together.”
Finding the balance between taking the pair’s flirtation to the next level while still honoring Bruce’s real-life history was something creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and husband Dan Palladino took seriously — starting with making sure all of Lenny’s comedy routines were “recreations.” (The real-life Lenny Bruce died of a drug overdose in 1966.)
“There were certain rules with Lenny,” Amy exclusively told Us at PaleyFest. “We never wrote comedy for him. All of his stand-up was [real] Lenny Bruce standup. Because who’s gonna write Lenny Bruce stand-up? That was a big rule.”
Despite their undeniable sparks, Lenny’s role in Midge’s life also goes far beyond romantic intentions for the co-showrunners. “Lenny served as a muse for her for a long time,” Amy explained to Us, to which Dan added, “And a guardian angel.”
“And then, even when that shifted, it immediately snapped back because he was, again, the person saying, ‘Eye on the prize. What are you doing? Eye on the prize. I see you and I can see you f—king this up. You’re gonna f—k this up.’ So, like, having laid all that groundwork and having that sort of relationship, it helped us get to that moment,” the Gilmore Girls creator shared.
SAN FRANCISCO — Amid escalating conflict between the Indian government and followers of the Sikh religion, some supporters of a separatist movement are using automated Twitter accounts to promote acts of vandalism and at times violence around the world.
Some backers of the Khalistani movement are using multiple networks of linked accounts to blast out videos and calls for action simultaneously, before Twitter’s reduced safety staff can respond.
They are also using evasive tactics, such as deleting tweets afterward, and avoiding suspensions by celebrating the planting of a “device” instead of a bomb and by calling for the “political death” of Indian leaders, according to research by Network Contagion Research Institute.
The bursts of activity come as Indian officials wage a manhunt for separatist leader Amritpal Singh, and as protesters have vandalized Indian consulates in San Francisco and around the world and assaulted Indian officials and journalists in America.
The campaign shows that even when it is trying to cut off bots promoting violence, Twitter remains a fertile ground for sowing discontent and real-world action.
Within the Indian state of Punjab, the separatist movement has won significant support among a Sikh farming population that has seen agricultural prices drop and jobs evaporate. A heroin epidemic, locals say, is ravaging the state.
Singh shot from near obscurity to prominence last year by touring through the Punjab countryside, flanked by heavily armed men, to deliver fiery speeches condemning drug usage and calling for a separate homeland.
India recently cut off Punjab’s access to the internet.
Many of the tweets captured by the NCRI urge protesters to gather or take unspecified direct action against such power plants, train tracks and other strategic targets inside India as well as facilities abroad. One widely shared video credited an expatriate Sikh group, Sikhs for Justice, with damaging a railway.
Sikhs for Justice did not return a call seeking comment.
The NCRI found 359 accounts active in the campaign since January. They often worked in networks of 20 to 50 accounts to promote messages or videos, many of them featuring the founder of U.S.-based Sikhs for Justice, which is banned in India. Each account would tweet the same thing dozens of times, tagging different journalists and other public figures to build visibility.
“When you look at the escalation and the intensity of the rhetoric, and how that precedes the events that take place in the real world that result in vandalism or violence, that’s where the concern is,” said Jack Donohue, chief operating officer at the NCRI and a former head of cyber intelligence at the New York Police Department.
Donohue said he would be sending an NCRI report first shared with The Washington Post to local law enforcement in cities with likely targets.
The research also provides grist for those who claim that the Khalistanis are getting significant support from the government of Pakistan, India’s neighbor and strategic rival.
About 20 percent of the accounts identified as part of the Twitter networks claim to be located inside Pakistan. And some of them have tweeted that Sikhs should be thankful for Pakistan or in support of one of the major Pakistani political parties, according to the report.
Attempts to reach some of the accounts deemed by the NCRI to be at the center of the efforts were unsuccessful.
“Involvement by a self-identified Pakistani network of putative SFJ supporters thus suggests not just bot-like activity but raises the possibility of a broader effort for covert influence,” the NCRI wrote. “The fact that this network of self-identified Pakistani accounts amplifies attacks against Hindu houses of worship, agitates for terror and attacks Indian consulates, aligns well with Pakistani strategic interests.”
That is far short of proof, however, and could be misdirection. Indian officials have an incentive to point to foreign powers as being behind domestic unrest to discredit activists and protesters. The Pakistani Embassy in Washington did not respond to an email seeking comment.
Since Elon Musk bought Twitter in October and forced out more than half the company’s staff, researchers and activists have tracked a surge in various forms of hate speech, a replatforming of many users previously banned for spreading lies, and growing connections between online campaigns and real-world confrontations.
In this case, Twitter has acted against the Khalistani campaign, suspending accounts including one that referred to wide use of hand grenades against enemies, the NCRI said. A search showed it has restricted others. But the people behind the accounts have outmaneuvered Twitter, for example returning with slightly altered names.
Twitter’s head of trust and safety did not respond to an email. The company’s press department responded with an emoji.
The U.S. State Department declined to add to a spokesman’s March 28 criticism of the U.S. attacks.
