After a grisly season — marred especially by the death of her mother, Lois — Lisa Rinna will not be returning to “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” People magazine broke the news, and Variety has confirmed her exit with Rinna’s publicist.

In a statement, Rinna said: “This is the longest job I have held in my 35 year career and I am grateful to everyone at Bravo and all those involved in the series. It has been a fun 8-year run and I am excited for what is to come!”

Rinna joined “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” in 2014 for its fifth season, and quickly became known for her constitutional gifts for pot-stirring. In her freshman season, during a cast trip to Amsterdam, Rinna conjured one of the most famous fights in “Real Housewives” history after she prodded fellow cast member Kim Richards about her alcoholism. Richards then made insinuations about Rinna’s husband Harry Hamlin, which prompted Rinna to reach across the table as if to strangle Richards, and then she threateningly smashed a wine glass in Richards’ direction.(Yolanda Hadid had to step in to control Rinna.)

In Season 6, Rinna then turned on Hadid, questioning the severity of Yolanda’s Lyme disease, and alleging she may have Munchausen instead: It was a plotline that hijacked the entire season. (In Dave Quinn’s 2021 oral history of “The Real Housewives” franchise, “Not All Diamonds and Rosé: The Inside Story of The Real Housewives from the People Who Lived It,” Rinna claimed that Lisa Vanderpump had been behind the Munchausen theory, which Vanderpump has denied.)

In other words, for her eight seasons on the Bravo show, Rinna was central to its drama. She also managed to thrust her family — especially her daughters, Delilah Belle and Amelia Gray, for whom she manufactured modeling/influencer careers — into the spotlight, no matter how averse Hamlin (whom Rinna always called “Harry Hamlin”) was to get into the show’s messiness. And though Rinna could be a divisive presence, her self-deprecation and determination to cop to bad behavior — or to “just own it,” as she’d frequently say — would often win fans back.

Yet in the past few seasons, the balance seemed to tip for Rinna, and that ineffable thing that sometimes happens with “Housewives” infected her: Her antics went from charming to sour. In Season 10, Rinna turned on her longtime friend Denise Richards, who had joined the cast during the previous season, and she grilled Richards on camera about her perceived hypocrisy about not wanting to discuss threesomes in front of Richards’ daughter Lola, as well as about an alleged one-night-stand former “RHOBH” cast member Brandi Glanville claimed to have had with the “Wild Things” star. (Richards would later quit the show.)

While Season 11 was a fallow period for Rinna — she was actually criticized for being too mellow — the recently concluded 12th season was catastrophic for her. Shortly after production began in October 2021, her beloved mother, Lois Rinna, who’d appeared frequently on the show, died after a stroke at the age of 93. In grief, Rinna seemed to spiral, and frequently took out her anger on cast member Sutton Stracke, whom she perceived to be the weakest member of the group. Yet Rinna’s lashings-out weren’t fun or entertaining “Real Housewives” fodder; instead, they came across as ungenerous and desperate.

The bearer of Rinna’s death knell, however, came in the form of Kathy Hilton. During a trip to Aspen, when Hilton was already in a rage about a tequila brand she’s invested in being snubbed — by Rinna especially, who’d made a point to order her “friend” Kendall Jenner’s 818 tequila at a bar — events took place off-camera that up-ended the entire cast dynamic. All we know for sure is that after a night at a club without cameras, Rinna and Hilton went home together in a sprinter van, and that Hilton was in a bad mood. These are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed.

From there, the accounts diverge. According to Rinna, Hilton verbally decimated the whole cast, member by member, with her ire especially directed at her own sister, OG cast member Kyle Richards. Yet Rinna was unable to provide a single receipt for this alleged outburst: If there were cameras anywhere — in the sprinter van home, in Richards’ Aspen house — or a voice memo that Rinna could have recorded, we didn’t see or hear them. The audience was instead asked to rely on Rinna’s word, and to fans, trusting her after all these years may have been a bridge too far.

Back in Los Angeles, during a scene at Richards’ house with Hilton and Rinna, Hilton apologized for her behavior: But only to a point. When Rinna revealed signs of not being able to let it go, and said among other things that Hilton has a “black heart,” Hilton turned to ice, and refused to engage further. At a party during the show’s season finale, Rinna ceaselessly repeated how “shook” she’d been by Hilton’s behavior, and when Richards begged her to stop talking about it, Rinna said she had to tell her truth — or she’d get sick with cancer.

Those kinds of comments endeared Rinna to no one. But during Season 12, it wasn’t only on television where she flailed. Even before the premiere, Rinna began taking shots at Hilton, and throughout the season, her Instagram stories were the social media equivalent of a dumpster fire GIF. And beyond her feud with Hilton, she criticized “RHOBH’s” Garcelle Beauvais, which led to her having a racially charged feud with Caroline Brooks of “The Real Housewives of Dubai”: Rinna lost that fight decisively. It got so bad that in one of the reunion episodes of “RHOBH,” moderator and “Real Housewives” executive producer Andy Cohen called Rinna’s social media “disastrous,” to which she snapped, “Put me on pause!”

She has gotten that wish.

There’s Marvel heroes, DC heroes and then there’s Koala Man, the hero from Down Under.

The brand new Hulu original animated series “Koala Man” follows the bizarre adventures of middle-aged dad Kevin and his not so secret identity, Koala Man. Starring Michael Cusack as Kevin, Academy Award winner Hugh Jackman stars as Kevin’s boss Big Greg, who ends up supporting his employee on his superhero ventures. Apart from Koala Man Jackman has previously voiced roles in animated series like “Big Mouth,” “Human Resources,” “The Simpsons” and the film “Missing Link.” The film also stars Sarah Snook, Jemaine Clement, Demi Lardner, Alexandra Daddario as well as Rachel House, Angus Sampson, and the legendary Hugo Weaving.

Kevin’s only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the town of Dapto. Though it may seem like any other Australian suburb, forces of evil both cosmic and man-made lie in wait to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a quest to clean up his hometown, and often roping his frustrated family into his adventures, Koala Man stands at the ready. He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.

The trailer gives us a look at the hilarious encounters between Koala Man and his so called enemies and we are in for some trippy adventures.

“Koala Man” comes from the mind of Aussie creator/animator Michael Cusack (“YOLO: Crystal Fantasy,” “Smiling Friends”) who also voices the titular hero. The show is Executive Produced by the co-creator of “Ricky and Morty”, Justin Roiland and the writers of “Pokemon: Detective Pikachu” Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Michael Cowap also serves as executive producer.

All 8 episodes of “Koala Man” will premiere Monday, January 9th on Hulu.

Emmy-nominated filmmaker Ryan White (“The Keepers”) directs an intimate and revealing portrait of a pop culture icon in “Pamela, a love story“.

In her own words, through personal video and diaries, Pamela Anderson shares the story of her rise to fame, rocky romances and infamous sex tape scandal.

An intimate and humanizing portrait of one of the world’s most famous blonde bombshells, Pamela, a love story follows the trajectory of Pamela Anderson’s life and career from small town girl to international sex symbol, actress, activist and doting mother.

Speaking with Vanity Fair about this documentary, Director Ryan White says he got to know the real Pamela and the experience was truly rewarding, he goes on to say “From the very beginning, she was like, ‘You can ask me anything. I will talk about anything. I will be nothing but honest with you about it all.”

Pamela had been very upfront while filming, providing the filmmakers with all the material they needed, decades worth of home movies, journals, photos and more. This helped the filmmakers get a better idea of Pamela’s story and how she went from model, to movie star to mother.

One very delicate subject that Pamela speaks about in this documentary is the infamous stolen sex tape. “The infamous stolen tape, which we’re always very careful to call ‘the stolen tape’ and not ‘sex tape,’ was just one of hundreds of hours that they filmed,” says White, “There’s no calculation with how Anderson thinks about these types of things. It’s all just about being raw and honest, for better or worse. It made for a really emotional film and I’m really grateful that I got to work with someone like that.”

White has taken great care with telling Anderson’s story in this film.

Netflix’s Pamela, a love story documentary will be released on the streaming platform on January 31, 2023.

AWFJ has presented annual EDA Awards for 16 years, representing professional women critics’ collective perspectives on movies and cinema culture in the movie awards arena, where female critics and critical opinion are still greatly underrepresented. AWFJ honors female creatives in non-gender specific awards categories and in unique Female Focus categories designated for women only.
“We are particularly proud that this year’s member-determined roster of nominees included a goodly number of female contenders in non-gender specific categories. and that we have female winners in those categories, as well, including Sarah Polley who receives the EDA Award for Best Director for the multi-nominated and awarded Women Talking.” said Jennifer Merin, President of the 95 members AWFJ. “We hope to see similar results at this year’s Oscars and various guild awards. as well as with other critics awards groups.”
In preparation for the awards season, AWFJ tracks femme-helmed and femme-centric films released throughout the year. The 2022 list of EDA Award-eligible femme-helmed and/or femme-centric films includes more than 500 titles. Many of these female made movies are small budget productions that receive neither wide distribution nor critical consideration. This staggering number of independently produced films indicates the high level of female filmmaker proactivity in contradiction to the grim statistics consistently reported in major studies about female film production. AWFJ advocates for acknowledgment of these films and recognition for their filmmakers.

Tehran

Director: Daniel Syrkin

Cast: Niv Sultan, Shaun Toub, Navid Negahban, Liraz Charhi

Having grown up hearing the exploits of the Israeli secret service, Mossad, especially its operation at Entebbe in 1976 in which hostages were rescued from an Air France plane that was hijacked, I was a tad disappointed with Tehran, an Apple TV+ eight-part series. Shot in Athens, the story though unfolds in Iran’s capital with Mossad sending its undercover agent, Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan), to orchestrate a massive power outage in the city so that Israeli fighter-jets can enter Iranian air space without being detected and destroy the nuclear reactor.

What we, however, see in Tamar is not a hardcore spy, but a softer, gentler young woman who lets her heart rule her head. Born in Tehran and having migrated to Israel as a little girl, she still adores Iran and would want the county to get back to its original glory and beauty that existed before the clergy took over from the Shah in a revolution. And her mannerisms are questionable. She lets her head-scarf slip ever so often, and appears to expose herself in a way that will endanger other Mossad agents in Iran.

Even the head of Iranian security, Faraz Kamali (Shaun Toub), despite being brutally ruthless often displays his most vulnerable side. His wife is his weakness, and not being able to accompany her to Paris for her brain surgery, he gets desperate sometimes, as when the Mossad kidnaps her. He frees a Mossad agent in exchange for his wife’s freedom. And even at the end when he is shot and wounded, he pleads with Tamar to take care of his wife.

Admittedly, the series, created for Israeli TV by Moshe Zonder (whose writing credits include Fauda – about Israel – Palestine ties), penned by Zonder and Omri Shenhar, and helmed by Daniel Syrkin, gives greater mileage to human relationships than hardcore spy-craft. Tamar’s aunt, who stayed behind in Tehran, does not even visit her dying sister in Israel – probably fearing that she may not be allowed to return home. Her attachment to Iran appears strong and is displayed without any qualms.

Tehran explores the complex nature of Iran-Israel relations. We see the head of Mossad operations saying with the bluntness of a radical that Iran’s nuclear strike capability must be destroyed, but he fails to see through an agent (Tamar) who seems undecided about how far she would like to go with her mission. Look at one of the last scenes when she sees Kamali lying down wounded. She could have finished him, but refrains from doing so and flees the scene with her Iranian boyfriend on a motorbike.

We would probably have season two that may further examine the Iranian theocratic regime and the fragile ties between Tehran and Tel-Aviv in the context of the changing geo-political scenario. However, those who may expect a female Bond in Tamar would be disappointed. She is delicate despite her punches to some security guards, and would not want her boyfriend dead.

2022 was a banner year for horror, with spine-tingling monsters such as Nope’s blood-thirsty, high-flying alien and Barbarian’s tried and true monster-in-the-basement called “Mother” being enough to keep even the most seasoned horror fanatic glancing over their shoulder. But Martin McDonagh’s somber dramedyThe Banshees of Inisherin is proof that sometimes, the scariest villain of all is someone you once called a friend.

What makes a scary horror villain?

It’s a question with many possible answers because peoples’ fear triggers come in countless shapes and forms. Throughout the years, some of the most famous bad guys have shared common traits: First, they look scary, perhaps donning a mask a la Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers; second, they are big – and can overpower their victims to cause physical harm such as the aliens in Signs or even Bruce the shark in Jaws; and third, their ire isn’t directed toward anyone in particular – they are out for blood and going to hurt anyone who gets in their way.

Some of 2022’s most popular horror films followed a similar structure; be it Nope‘s “Jean Jacket” snatching crowds of screaming people straight from the sky or the return of Scream‘s iconic “Ghostface” slashing his way through a new generation of unsuspecting young people. But I’m making the argument that 2022’s scariest, most evil villain wasn’t an alien or a knife-wielding home intruder. It was, in fact, a sad Irish pub-dweller named Colm (Brendan Gleeson) who abruptly and coldly puts an end to a life-long friendship with a man named Pádraic (Colin Farrell). This sends his (very confused) former BFF down a spiral of shame and uncertainty – and even leads indirectly to the death of his beloved pet.

Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell in the film THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN. Photo Courtesy of Searchlight Pictures. 2022 20th Century Studios All Rights Reserved.

So, what was Colm’s deal?

First and foremost, Colm is a complex character with many facets. He is far from a one-dimensional villain and is clearly in the throes of a serious depression while grappling with self-doubt and his own mortality. In many ways, Colm is himself, a sympathetic character. But it’s the way he chooses to deal with his own self-hatred by projecting his insecurities onto his best friend that makes his actions so loathsome.

From the get-go, Pádraic is thrust into a no-win situation. Cut off from his best friend for no discernable reason other than being told he simply “doesn’t like him anymore,” he finds himself caught in an insanely frustrating catch-22. He wants to help his friend and figure out what exactly he did wrong, but each attempt at a reconciliation leads Colm deeper down his self-imposed path of destruction.

Colm is, in his mind, a failed composer – and his unhinged reaction to Pádraic’s attempt at outreach is to cut off his own fingers, therefore ensuring he will never be able to compose again. It is a horrific and disgusting attempt at pinning his shortcomings directly onto Pádraic. A different life for Colm is possible – the “mainland” presumably has more people and greater opportunities – and we can see it is just a boat ride away. Colm, however, chooses the coward’s way out by refusing to take accountability for his own future and passing the buck onto his best friend.

Who can you really trust?

The Banshees of Inisherin takes the picture of what we believe to be a traditional movie villain and turns it on its head. No one wants to think that their oldest and best friend will one day wake up and abruptly and crudely cut ties – sending them down a desperate path to understanding that will never come. It is the ultimate betrayal; one from someone you thought you knew. And it’s scarier than any masked slasher or basement-dwelling monster you could ever imagine.

EXCLUSIVE: Peacock has scored another drama project from Julie Plec and her Vampire Academy co-exec producer Adam Starks as its development strategy kicks into second gear.

The NBCU streamer is developing Freeman, a mystery drama series set in a small, picturesque town in Georgia, from Plec and Starks. Peacock is understood to have won the project in a highly competitive battle and has set up a mini writers’ room.

Freeman comes from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, where Plec is under an overall deal.

It follows a family, which moves to a small, picturesque town in Georgia after acquiring a lucrative inheritance, including the mysterious house known as Freeman Manor. It’s soon discovered that there are mysteries and darkness hidden within the walls, and the town at large, that go back generations.

Starks, who was a consulting producer on HBO Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and Netflix’s Freeridge, is writing and exec producing. Plec exec produces via her My So-Called Company alongside her production partner Emily Cummins.

In addition to writing on On My Block, The Tick, Good Trouble and Snowpiercer, Starks was a co-exec producer on Peacock’s Vampire Academy, which Plec co-created and was co-showrunner on. The series launched in September.

Plec is best known as the creator, showrunner, executive producer and director of series such as The Vampire Diaries and its multiple spinoffs and is also exec producing HBO Max’s upcoming Girls on the Bus.

Freeman is her latest project in the works with Universal Television, which has We Were Liars at Amazon and Confessions at Netflix.

The drama project comes as Peacock recently updated its development priorities as it enters the year with the first full slate from Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming and her team.

On the drama side, there is a focus on big, eventized dramas. Upcoming series include Knives Out filmmaker Rian Johnson’s case-of-the-week mystery series Poker Face starring Natasha Lyonne, Based On a True Story starring Kaley Cuoco and Mrs. Davis from Damon Lindelof and Tara Hernandez.

It recently gave a straight-to-series order to a contemporary horror thriller based on Robert McCammon’s Stinger from writer Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone), Atomic Monster’s James Wan (The Conjuring Universe) and UCP.

Plec is represented by Entertainment 360 and Felker Toczek Suddleson, Starks is represented by A3 Artists Agency and Ziffren Brittenham and Cummins is represented by Cliff Gilbert-Lurie.

South Korean entertainment heavyweight CJ ENM has unveiled the 2023 recipients of its annual Visionary awards, which recognize talent across the Korean film and television landscape for their contributions to “leading trends and spearheading innovations.”

CJ ENM says the 10 Visionary honorees were selected via a process combining opinions from a panel of 60 entertainment “specialists” from within the company and a data analysis conducted by Endeavor Analytics. Endeavor Analytics developed and implemented a proprietary judging methodology, utilizing an array of data resources including celebrity tracking services and social media measurements.

The 2023 honorees range from filmmaker Park Chan-wook, whose latest thriller Decision to Leave is considered an Oscar frontrunner, to Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae, who premiered his directorial debut, Hunt, at Cannes last year. Other recipients include pop star turned actress IU, star of Hirokazu Kore-eda’s acclaimed drama Broker, and leading man Don Lee, star of The Roundup, Korea’s top-grossing film of 2022.

The ten 2023 Visionary honorees, in alphabetical order, are: K-pop group (G)I-DLE, Chung Seo-kyung, Don Lee, IU, Kim Hye-soo, Lee Jin-ju, Lee Jung-jae, Nah Yung-suk, Park Chan-wook and Park Eun-bin.

“As the value and impact of Korean entertainment continue to grow across the globe, tracing the footsteps of the ‘visionaries’ sheds light on the endless possibilities and vision of what comes next,” CJ ENM said in a statement. “Just as visionaries find their originality through adventures and innovations, CJ ENM will continue to pave new ways and produce widely loved IP.”

CJ ENM inaugurated the Visionary awards in 2020. This year’s recipients will be celebrated at an awards show in Seoul later in January.

Gemma Hickey says when they were in their teens, they went to a faith-based conversion therapy practitioner who had them pray and read literature to try to make them heterosexual.

“When I was vulnerable, I went to see someone, because I thought she could help me. And in the end, it almost resulted in me ending my life,” Hickey said in an interview.

Hickey, who is now in their forties, said that vulnerable young people are still undergoing such treatment, and it is going unreported despite the practice becoming a crime a year ago.

Conversion therapy ban receives royal assent, now law in Canada

The Justice Department says it is not aware of any charges or prosecutions under the new criminal code offences prohibiting conversion therapy, which came into force on Jan. 7 last year.

Story continues below advertisement

Conversion therapy is the practice of attempting to change an individual’s sexual orientation to heterosexual or to change their gender identity to match the sex they were assigned at birth.

Michael Kwag, a director at the Community-Based Research Centre in Toronto, said there was “jubilation” when the law was passed, but more work needs to be done so that it can be actioned on by prosecutors and police.

“Enforcement was always going to be a major issue with a criminalization approach to ending conversion practices,” Kwag said.

He said that historically, LGBTQ communities have had a “fraught relationship” with police services, but the criminal justice system continues to require victims to come forward and make a complaint.

“More education and awareness are needed, so people know where they can make a complaint and have confidence they’re doing so in a secure way,” he said.

Nick Schiavo, founder of No Conversion Canada, said one of the challenges with conversion therapy is that it “always kind of happened in the shadows.”

“Asking survivors to come forward and relive that trauma, or that stigma or that guilt or that shame or whatever they feel, is very, very hard,” he said.

“One of the kind of analogies or comparisons that we use is to sexual assault.”

Schiavo said conversion therapy continues to be pervasive and sometimes victims are hesitant to speak up.

“It’s not until they’re later in life, when they’re older and they understand more about the issue, that they realize what they’ve gone through is, in fact, conversion therapy. Because nobody’s told them. There’s been no education,” he said.

Schiavo said the ban still has a role to play, because it could act as a deterrent to anyone considering offering conversion therapy services.

But he said more needs to be done to support survivors, and there needs to be more education about conversion therapy.

Kwag said the federal government should invest in education and awareness campaigns so people can better identify conversion practices.

“It’s also about funding affirming, community-based supports that are a low barrier for people who have been impacted by conversion practices, as well as people who might be vulnerable to it,” he said. These could be “alternatives” to the practice itself, he added.

Hickey agreed that raising awareness about what conversion therapy is, and who might be vulnerable to it, remains important.

“Just because we’ve worked hard to change laws, doesn’t mean that attitudes and beliefs have changed.”

Julie Bowen has stated that even though she identifies as straight, she has had an experience in which she fell in love with a female. No, I’m not gay. I have never been gay or bisexual. The actress from Modern Family disclosed this information in the most recent edition of her podcast titled “Quitters.” During our conversation, she said, “I was in love with a woman for a time, but she did not love me back.”

She had a thing for ladies but didn’t feel the same about me. Continued Bowen, who was 52. Since it never took off, I was never forced to question how I conceived of myself in terms of my sexuality.

Following the guest alumna of The Bachelor, Becca Tilley’s statement that coming out was a stressful experience for her, particularly after appearing on two seasons of the ABC show, the actress decided to declare her sexual orientation.

The reality TV star, who is 34 years old and is dating Hayley Kiyoko at the moment, shared with Bowen that he is attracted to people.

One day people won’t be forced to come out, as doing so adds a lot of extra stress and weight to their lives. She said that given how challenging life is, falling in love should be a simple, beautiful experience that no one should feel the need to justify to anybody else.

When individuals ask others to define themselves, they frequently inquire about a person’s sexual inclination and what they do in the bedroom, according to Bowen, who portrayed Claire Dunphy on the television show Modern Family.

She stated that what you do with your body should not be the first thing that we learn about someone or be concerned about because it is none of our business. I share your wish that people won’t need to leave their homes all the time.

Amazon will eliminate “just over 18,000 roles” at the company, CEO Andy Jassy wrote in a memo to staffers Wednesday, well more than previously expected by the ecommerce giant.

The layoffs will occur across “several teams” but the majority of job cuts are in the Amazon Stores group and its People, Experience and Technology (PXT) organization, Jassy said in the memo, which the company posted on its blog site.

“Amazon has weathered uncertain and difficult economies in the past, and we will continue to do so,” Jassy wrote. “These changes will help us pursue our long-term opportunities with a stronger cost structure; however, I’m also optimistic that we’ll be inventive, resourceful, and scrappy in this time when we’re not hiring expansively and eliminating some roles.”

The roughly 18,000 job cuts, which includes layoffs Amazon made last fall, represent about 1.2% of the 1.544 million full- and part-time workers the company reported as of Sept. 30, 2022.

In November, Jassy announced that Amazon was cutting jobs across its Devices and Books businesses, and also said the company was making voluntary buyout offers for some employees in the PXT group. He also told employees that there would be “more role reductions” going into 2023 “as leaders continue to make adjustments.” At the time, the New York Times reported that Amazon was cutting about 10,000 jobs.

Speaking in late November at the Times’ DealBook conference, Jassy said the cuts were necessary because the economy was “more uncertain” than Amazon execs previously expected: “We just felt like we needed to streamline our costs,” he said.

Jassy’s memo to Amazon employees Wednesday about the job cuts came after the Wall Street Journal reported earlier in the day that the company planned to pink-slip “more than 17,000” employees. In an apparent reference to the Journal report, Jassy wrote, “We typically wait to communicate about these outcomes until we can speak with the people who are directly impacted. However, because one of our teammates leaked this information externally, we decided it was better to share this news earlier so you can hear the details directly from me.”

Amazon plans to communicate with employees who will be affected by the latest round of layoffs starting on Jan. 18, according to Jassy.

Jassy, who joined Amazon in 1997, was formerly CEO of the tech company’s fast-growing AWS cloud services division. Jassy took over the CEO job, succeeding founder Jeff Bezos, in July 2021.

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s a first look at the Hindi-language dub of Akhanda, one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of 2021/2022.

The action flick from producers Dr. Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios and Sajid Qureshi and director Boyapati Srinu is set to release in Hindi on January 20.

After debuting on December 2021, it took ₹120.8 crore ($14.6M) at the box office, making it star Nandamuri Balakrishna’s biggest film to date. Akhanda was also a hit on Disney+ Hotstar.

Akhanda stars Balakrishna in a duel role as twins, one a fierce devotee of Lord Shiva who was initially a twin taken from his family as a baby and goes on to fights evildoers. Producers say it “weaves a historical story” into the plot. Pragya Jaiswal, Jagapathi Babu, and Srikanth also star.

The film marked the third time Balakrishna has worked with Srinu, coming after 2010’s Simp and 2014’s Legend.

Gada said: “If the last year has taught us anything it’s that the audience is craving mass entertainers and visual spectacles that merit a theatre viewing. We believe Akhanda is a film that will find takers in different language markets and has pan-India appeal considering Nandamuri Balakrishna’s fanbase and the high-octane action and entertainment that the film delivers.”

Gada’s Pen Studios and Dwaraka Creations are behind the movie.

EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures Television has quietly taken full control of The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures in a deal worth £5.5M ($6.6M).

Sony has acquired the 5.32% of Left Bank it did not own, valuing the production house at £103M ($124M) around 15 years after it first launched in the UK.

The deal was completed last June but was disclosed for the first time in two sets of Left Bank earnings published this week on Companies House, the register of British companies.

Deloitte, the consultancy giant, was engaged to value the Left Bank shares held by employees including Andy Harries, the producer’s founder and chief executive.

Sony first invested in Left Bank in 2012, four years before The Crown streamed on Netflix. The company is currently shooting the sixth and final season of the lavish royal drama.

Left Bank has a complicated corporate structure and its earnings are split out over several subsidiaries. Left Bank Pictures Television, the parent company of special-purpose vehicles for The Crown, reported revenue of £147.8M ($177.5M) in the year to March 2022. This was an increase of 1,101% on the previous year’s revenue of £12.5M ($15M) when The Crown was on a gap year.

Left Bank Pictures Television’s pre-tax profit stood at £14M ($16.8M) last year compared with a loss of £2M ($2.4M) in 2021, according to the financial document.

Sony and Left Bank declined to comment.

First there were soap brows, and now bleached brows are in—and Kylie Jenner, of course, is trying them on for size.

In a January 4 Instagram post, Kylie debuted a shocking switch-up, trading in her dark, bold brows for a cooler, ashier tone. It isn’t her first time rocking blonde brows, as seen in an October 1, 2022, post.

The makeup mogul posted a few snaps on her Instagram from the backseat of a car with a striking black interior that emphasizes the trendy brows. The caption reads: “where we going ?”

Kylie isn’t the first Jenner to rock contrasting brows, as sister Kendall Jenner debuted a similar look at the 2022 Met Gala. The comment section on Kylie’s post is on fire with hot takes, most of which praise Kylie for the frosty brows. Celebrity makeup artist Ariel commented “We ate ?” and posted a picture on his own Instagram to show off his handiwork, captioning it “Take me wherever you go! ?” Me too, please!

Here’s the downside to having an Oscar shortlist: Completely sidelining great contenders so early in the season.

One oversight by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Music branch this year was the “sexy and dangerous” original score, as the pic’s composer Isabella Summers puts it, of Netflix’s feature take on D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

Deadline

And, yes, per Summers, Florence and the Machine is still together. As the British musician-turned-composer explains today on Crew Call, she was coming off a tour and got the chance to supply a song to indie pic Assassination Nation.

From there she was encouraged to make her foray into scoring, first working with Mark Isham on the Hulu limited series Little Fires Everywhere, on which they notched an Emmy nom for original dramatic limited series score. Lady Chatterley’s Lover is the first of four film scores by Summers to be unveiled.

For Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Summers delivers a vibrant, lush classical score with echoes of Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Gustav Holst, continually striking a balance between the big bang romance scenes to the more intimate moments in the story of Connie (Emma Corrin) who is stuck, bottled up in a marriage with an aristocratic husband who became paralyzed from an injury fighting in World War I. She finds love in Oliver, the gamekeeper on their grand estate.

here’s a lot of kissing in the rain in the middle of the farmland to put it mildly. Key for Summers was capturing Connie’s “frustration and tempestuous nature” with filmmaker Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre often drawn to sometimes the most simplest chords.

You can listen to our conversation with Summers below:

The country group returns with a new single before embarking on their headlining winter tour

Old Dominion find a happy place to visit again and again in their newly released song “Memory Lane.” It’s the CMA-winning country group’s latest single, and first release since their August collaboration with Kenny Chesney on “Beer With My Friends.”

As its title suggests, “Memory Lane” is heavy on nostalgia, but the kind that’s tinged with sadness. The shuffling beat and acoustic guitar propel the tune along at a nice clip while singer Matthew Ramsey drifts back to a better day with someone he loved. “Thinkin’ bout those sunsets that bled into jean jacket nights/Those tangled up mornings lost in paradise,” he sings, as the music rushes forward with an EDM-style build. Instead of a big bass drop, it retreats to a quiet-but-quick pattern that matches the song’s mood.

“Sometimes, when I’m feeling overwhelmed, or missing someone, or maybe just feel a little nostalgic, there are places in my mind I can go that are full of memories of simpler times. It’s a location, or a person, or a feeling that will always live in my memories and I can close my eyes and transport myself there anytime I want and experience it all again,” said Ramsey, who wrote the song with bandmates Trevor Rosen and Brad Tursi alongside Jessie Jo Dillon.

Old Dominion, who won their fifth straight CMA Vocal Group of the Year honor in November, will kick off their headlining No Bad Vibes Tour with a Jan. 19 show in Evansville, Indiana. They are also set to make multiple stops in Canada, including Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg, as well as play back-to-back nights at venues in Key West, Florida, and Morrison, Colorado. The trek officially wraps up June 30 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Hollywood hunk Bradley Cooper, 48, looked as handsome as ever while on a walk in New York City with his daughter, Lea, 5, on Jan. 4. The toddler looked adorable in a lavish pink dress, which she accessorized with on-trend pink Sherpa booties. Lea opted to wear her blonde tresses down, as they flowed behind her while she held her dad’s hand in the streets of the Big Apple. Bradley, for his part, rocked a mauve pink t-shirt, grey pants, and a black beanie while spending time with his little one on Wednesday. In addition, the 48-year-old carried his black jacket (which he removed), along with Lea’s leopard-print coat and pink backpack.

The father-and-daughter outing comes nearly one month after the two stepped out in NYC amid reconciliation speculation between Bradley and model Irina Shayk, 36. During the Dec. 13 outing, Lea wore a green winter coat complete with bright-red leggings. The Hangover actor adorably matched his daughter’s Philadelphia Eagles beanie while he also wore a blue puffer coat and grey jeans on the chilly afternoon stroll.

Bradley and Lea’s mom, Irina, spent the Thanksgiving holiday together and have been rumored to be reconciling their romance in recent months. “Bradley’s very protective of his privacy when it comes to Irina, so the fact that they’re being so public is very significant,” a source close to the duo told HollywoodLife on Nov. 9, 2022. “There’s been chatter about them getting back together for a while now, and everyone’s rooting for them because they’re a good match.”

The reconciliation rumors were magnified on Nov. 4, 2022, when the Russian model posted a sexy carousel of snapshots in a lingerie Halloween costume. Irina was sitting on a person’s lap, who people assumed was Bradley, however, he was disguised in a bear costume. “Bear with me,” she captioned the photos. “Bear’s hands lol,” one follower commented, noting the man’s hands on Irina. Then a fan popped into the comments section to share their hopes for Bradley and the brunette beauty to get back together. “I hope you and brad will back together was a great family with their daughter Lea,” they wrote.

Furthermore, on Nov. 28, 2022, a source told PEOPLE that Irina “hoped” to repair their relationship. “She never enjoyed being single,” the mag’s insider said at the time. “She always hoped they could find a way to make their relationship work again. Even though they always got along and co-parented well, their daughter is the happiest when they are all together.” The director and Irina have been linked to each other since 2015, about two years before they welcomed their beautiful daughter into their lives.

Apple may be the world’s largest company, but it has always had a soft spot for that Disney magic. That’s why Steve Jobs asked Bob Iger to serve on Apple’s board (Iger resigned when Apple officially entered the content business), and why it was eager to work with former Disney and Pixar executive John Lasseter, now at Skydance Animation.

With Apple TV+, the tech giant is taking a page from HBO, ordering fewer TV shows and movies, but aiming for a quality that’s a cut above the rest. But the Apple brand has always been a bit more family-friendly than HBO, and the Disney envy is still apparent. Enter Ricky Strauss. When Disney launched the marketing campaigns for films like Frozen, The Avengers, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Incredibles 2, it turned to Strauss’ team to deliver.

Strauss, a veteran producer, production executive and marketer, had founded Ricochet Media, and later worked as Participant Media’s president, before joining Disney in 2012 to lead marketing for the company’s film studio. He later led marketing and content for the launch of Disney+, an effort that saw the streaming service rocket to nearly 90 million subscribers in just its first year.

Now Apple wants a piece of that marketing magic for itself. The tech giant hired Strauss on Jan. 3 to lead marketing for Apple TV+, a bold hire that suggests Apple is serious about growing its streaming division, and potentially its theatrical film efforts. In streaming, while Apple has promoted Apple TV+ (and offered aggressive free trials to buyers of its products), it has not spent nearly as much time or money marketing the service as its competitors.

With a fresh price hike and with big investments like its Major League Soccer deal on the horizon, Apple clearly believes streaming is a real business, and now Strauss will be the one to sell it to a public that may only know the service for Ted Lasso, or perhaps Oscar winner CODA.

Strauss’ experience marketing blockbusters could be just what the tech giant needs to build off that win. This year will see Apple release Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, star-studded spy thriller Argylle, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Lasseter’s animated film Spellbound.

It may not be as big a slate as Disney’s or Paramount’s, but it’s stacked with boldface names and titles with the potential to be hits, both in theaters and on streaming. And now the company has hired someone who knows how to sell hits. Apple has already shown a willingness to embrace the big-screen experience, and a commitment to make a bold awards season push, but it is yet to release a film that would qualify as a bona fide blockbuster.

This year’s slate, with Strauss at the helm of those campaigns, could be what it needs to take that next step.

In the latest episode of “Awards Circuit,” presented by HBO, Variety TV editors Michael Schneider and Emily Longeretta singled out a slew of performances that made this year’s hottest television series sparkle, from the likes of Jennifer Coolidge in “The White Lotus” to Zendaya in “Euphoria.”

For the upcoming Golden Globes, in best performance by an actress in a drama, Hilary Swank’s performance in “Alaska Daily” was noted as a surprise nomination because of the show’s broadcast home on ABC edging out the popularity of streaming service shows. Schneider remarked Zendaya’s awards season prowess — already having multiple Emmys to her name for her role as Rue Bennett on the HBO series — gives her a great chance at taking home the win. Additionally, Coolidge’s return in the second season of “The White Lotus,” along with the show’s highly-received finale, will grant Coolidge some serious consideration among voters as well.

In actor in drama, Adam Scott for “Severance,” Kevin Costner for “Yellowstone,” Diego Luna for “Andor” and more are nominated at the Golden Globes. Particular attention was given to Bob Odenkirk for his role in AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” which would be one of the actor’s final chances to receive awards recognition for his performance as the series concluded last summer.

In the musical/comedy category, Donald Glover received a nod for the final season of “Atlanta,” as did Bill Hader for “Barry” along with Steve Martin and Martin Short for “Only Murders in the Building.” Jeremy Allen White was noted as a frontrunner in the category for his performance in FX’s “The Bear,” citing the show’s quick rise in popularity during the summer of 2022 when it released. On the actress front, Jean Smart was marked as the clear frontrunner to win for her role in “Hacks,” while the likes of Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday” and Selena Gomez for “Only Murders in the Building” are also firmly in the mix.

Prince Harry is all set to drop a final bomb on the royal family with his controversial book Spare. Before the release, he is coming up with two interviews on January 08 for promotion. The trailers of his interactions with ITV’s Tom Brady and Anderson Cooper have set the internet on fire. In the short clips, the Duke revealed that the leaking and briefings by the Palace are the main reason behind the Netflix docuseries and memoir.

Prince Harry claimed that he could never show his grievances to the senior members, as they leaked everything in the media. He further added that the royal family planted a lot of fake stories in the press against him and his wife, Meghan Markle. The disputable accusations by the Sussex royal left Jonathan Sacerdoti fuming.

The royal expert Sacerdoti revealed that not the royal family but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the ones leaking things in the media. He mentioned that King Charles, Prince William, and other senior members are afraid of having complex and emotional discussions with the Sussexes owing to their tie-up with Netflix and Spotify. The UK-based journalist further added that this is the reason behind King Charles and Prince William not making any efforts to get the Sussexes back into the family.

“If anyone’s leaking things, it does seem to come more from Harry and Meghan’s side. So, should the king or the future king have anything to say in private, they’re probably very afraid to because they’re worried that it will just be on Netflix or on Spotify or in a book,” Jonathan Sacerdoti mentioned in his interaction with US Weekly.

Further, the royal expert also slammed Prince Harry for his statement about wanting his father and brother back. Sacerdoti believes that in the past few months, the Duke and Duchess have done everything to alienate themselves from the royal family. He added that the California-based royals can not reconcile by making serious allegations about the family in the public eye.

Prince Harry is all set

Sentimental tales about grumpy old men and American decline have, until recently, typically been the domain of Clint Eastwood.

But in “A Man Called Otto,” Marc Forster’s adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s bestseller and a remake of the 2016 Swedish film “A Man Called Ove,” it’s Tom Hanks prowling the neighborhood and irritably grumbling about how things used to be. In the original, Rolf Lassgård richly inhabited the role of Ove, a curmudgeonly widower — a Forrest Grump —whose suicide attempts are foiled by needy neighbors and, ultimately, his grudging, sincere devotion to them.

Exasperation, whether directed at a crying ballplayer or a slobbering canine, has always been squarely in Hanks’ wheelhouse. But despondency or even plain get-off-my-lawn orneriness are less obvious traits possessed by the actor sometimes called “America’s Dad.” Following Hanks’ villainous turn as Col. Tom Parker in “Elvis,” the 66-year-old has found in “A Man Called Otto” another role that interestingly, if not always entirely successfully, caters to his strengths while tweaking his familiar screen presence.

It also may rob “A Man Called Otto,“ which opens with Otto buying rope to hang himself with, of some of its spirit. We know there are dark roads that Hanks just isn’t going to go down, and some of the early, more caustic scenes of Forster’s film strike a false note. But as “A Man Called Otto” makes its way through Otto’s life, cutting between his present-day squabbles and flashbacks of happier times with his wife, Sonya (Rachel Keller), Hanks movingly tailors the role to himself. How ”A Man Called Otto” unfolds won’t surprise anyone, but it does the trick for a little post-holidays heart-warming.

“A Man Called Otto” is set in the prefab row-house development Otto has long lived in, where he tirelessly tisk-tisks any rule breakers, re-sorts misplaced recycling and berates drivers who violate the street’s regulation against through traffic.

Screenwriter David Magee (“Life of Pi,” “Finding Neverland”) hues closely to the Swedish film as a kind of parable of community. Up and down the street are all the people the freshly retired Otto barely tolerates: friends-turned-enemies (Peter Lawson Jones, Juanita Jennings), a friendly exerciser (a delightful Cameron Britton), a transgender paper deliverer and former student of Otto’s wife (Mack Bayda). Most of all there is Marisol (a terrific Mariana Treviño), a pregnant mother of two has just moved in with her husband (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo). Various needs — a stray cat, a borrowed ladder, driving lessons — intrude on Otto’s desires for a peaceful death and, in between aborted suicide attempts, gradually rekindle his will to live.

It’s sometimes too broadly drawn. Mike Birbiglia plays a predatory real estate agent from a company not-so-subtly called Dye & Merica. (“Sounds like Dying America, which it is,” says Otto.) But “A Man Called Otto” is less after realism than it is a modern-day fable, with shades of Scrooge and the Grinch. As a tale of a solitary man, Hanks has made it a poignant work of family. Rita Wilson, his wife, is a producer and is heard singing a song in the film. The younger Otto is played in flashbacks by their son, Truman Hanks. Even Chet Hanks’ “White Boy Summer” blares from a car radio.

Another tune, though, is a more thrilling needle drop. The less said probably the better, but suffice to say, it could be a sign that the Kate Bush renaissance so hearteningly kicked up by “Stranger Things” has not yet abated. If that’s not life-affirming, I don’t know what is.

“A Man Called Otto,” a Sony Pictures release, is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association for mature thematic material involving suicide attempts, and language. Running time: 126 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four.

Dave Bautista says there’s a “relief” to winding down his run as Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Drax as he looks towards more dramatic roles in his future.

In a new GQ profile, the Glass Onion star talks about his career trajectory from the WWE to the big screen, along with his personal acting ambitions. The actor acknowledges he’s in a transition period, one where he closes the door on the MCU franchise and its comedic character that helped launch his acting career and a future in more dramatic work.

“I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him,” the actor said. “But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy — it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”

Bautista has portrayed the Kylosian alien for nearly a decade, across multiple movies and the latest Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special for Disney+. Now, the actor is looking towards his turn in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune sequel, which follows their collaboration on the first film as well as Blade Runner 2049. The actor says working with Villeneuve, particularly in a leading role, is one of his goals for a very specific reason.

“If I could be a number one [on the callsheet] with Denis, I would do it for fucking free,” he said. “I think that’s how I could find out how good I could be. He brings out the best in me. He sees me in a different light, sees the performer that I want to be. That might be how I solve the puzzle.”

Bautista’s Glass Onion director supports his star’s ambitions, telling the magazine that the person in Hollywood that gives “Dave a real dramatic lead role in a movie” will ultimately “look like a genius.”

The Dune star revealed that he has already felt shit in the way he’s being viewed among his peers, noting that Javier Bardem, his co-star in the sci-fi epic sequel, already shared a “fucking surreal” moment with Bautista that gave the Guardians star a boost in confidence about his more serious screen ambitions.

The moment happened after Bardem — who had previously done some press with Bautista for the first Dune film — attended an early screening of the Netflix whodunnit, which saw Bautista’s co-star “dancing through the aisles,” according to GQ. “Our conversations after that were different. Which, for me, was fucking everything.”

Those are the kinds of moments Bautista says he’s looking for more of. “I never wanted to be the next Rock,” he explained. “I just want to be a good fucking actor. A respected actor.”

“Honestly, I could give a fuck [about being a movie star],” he added. “I don’t live a great big glamorous life. I live here in Tampa. I don’t care about the spotlight, I don’t care about fame. I just want to be a better actor. I want respect from my peers. I don’t need accolades — I really don’t, man. It’s about the experience, about knowing that I accomplished something.”

All the speculation can be put to an end finally because Stephen Amell has confirmed via Twitter stating “Of course I’m coming back”. He will be returning on The Flash’s final season. Green Arrow is officially back! As to what storyline will be used we don’t know as of yet and unconfirmed. Last time we saw Oliver Queen he was the Spectre in the crossover for Crisis on Infinite Earths and very much dead or a God. He ended up staying in the Paradise Dimension. Felicity then joined him after 20 years in the last episode of Season 8 of Arrow, where she reunited with Oliver thanks to The Monitor leading her there. Joining him will be David Ramsey as John Diggle, Keiynan Lonsdale as Kid Flash and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Bloodwork in episode 909 of The Flash.

Below please find Stephen’s statement via his Twitter and Instagram:

The CW has also put out a statement today: “As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen,” “The Flash” executive producer Eric Wallace said in a statement. “After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of ‘The Flash. “The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say “thank you” to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears.”

Many took to twitter with confusion and excitement see below tweets:

When was Green Arrow last seen?

The latest comic crossover ended with a significant reveal, as they showed Oliver Queen’s Spectre is seen alive in the year 2049. In a shocking conclusion to the Earth-Prime crossover from DC Comics, the former Green Arrow emerges alongside the Justice League, as it seems that somehow, Queen has returned from his death in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earth event. The reveal leaves more questions than answers, but the canonical comic ultimately changes the hero’s fate.

In Earth-Prime: Hero’s Twilight #6 by Jeff Hersh, Thomas Pound, Will Robson, Alex Sinclair, and Tom Napolitano by DC Comics, the Arrowverse heroes of 2049 stop the villain Magog and his evil army, as they’re deemed worthy by a shadowy figure. After the battle, Supergirl returns to the Hall of Justice, revealing that Flash, Superman, Black Lightning, and others were watching the young heroes as they were told not to intervene in the test. A mysterious voice responds, saying the trial “pales next to what will be expected of them,” as Oliver Queen’s Spectre, somehow alive, reveals himself, saying they “must be ready” for what’s coming next. How this will all tie into Season 9 of the Flash we don’t know but can’t wait to see what they have planned.

What will the Flash’s final season be about?

Season 9 will pick up with Barry after he defeated the Reverse Flash once and for all, and begins one week later following their epic battle. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) are reconnecting and growing closer than ever before. But when a deadly group of Rogues descend on Central City led by a powerful new threat, The Flash and his team — Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Meta-Empath Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), the light-powered meta Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton), brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight) and reformed cryogenics thief Mark Blaine (Jon Cor) — must once again defy impossible odds to save the day.

You can tune in to the ninth and final season of “The Flash” which will be debuting on The CW, February 8, 2023.

After the success of the first Murder Mystery, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Netflix has commissioned a sequel for the Adam Sandler comedy. Filming came to an end in 2022, and has since been in post-production. The movie is currently set to premiere sometime in March 2023; here’s our updated first look and preview.

Murder Mystery 2 is an upcoming Netflix Original comedy movie, and the sequel to Netflix’s incredibly successful 2019 comedy, Murder Mystery. Jeremy Garelick replaces Kyle Newacheck as the director of the project, but James Vanderbilt has returned to write the sequel.

Murder Mystery is one of Netflix’s most successful Originals ever, thanks to amassing an audience of over 83 million households. If Murder Mystery 2 was to replicate even half the success of its predecessor we’d suspect Netflix will be incredibly happy.

What is the production status of Murder Mystery 2?

Official Production Status: Post-Production (Last Updated: 18/10/2022)

Filming for Murder Mystery 2 took place in the first few months of 2022. Principal photography began on January 28th, 2022, and lasted for three months before ending on April 26th, 2022.

We know the locations used for filming are Hawaii, in the United States and Paris, France.

Like the first film, production will be handled by Adam Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison Productions.

What is the plot of Murder Mystery 2?

A brief synopsis of the sequel has been made available thus far:

“Detective couple Audrey and Nick get involved in some international intrigue when their pal is kidnapped at his own wedding in the comedy sequel.”

Who are the cast members of Murder Mystery 2?

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston have been confirmed to be returning to reprise their roles of Nick and Audrey Spitz.

If you include Uncut Gems, which is a Netflix Original outside of the US, then Sandler will have starred in ten Original films for Netflix.

Joining the cast of Murder Mystery 2 are;

  • Adeel Akhtar as The Maharajah
  • Mark Strong
  • Melanie Laurent
  • Jodie Turner-Smith
  • Kuhoo Verma
  • Enrique Arce
  • Tony Goldwyn
  • Zurin Villanueva
  • Annie Mumolo

MCU fans will be familiar with John Kani thanks to his brief stint in the franchise as King T’Chaka, the father of T’Challa.

Adeel Akhtar was last seen on Netflix in Enola Holmes as Detective Lestrade, and will reprise his role in Enola Holmes 2. Akhtar was hilarious in the British comedy Four Lions, and a fan favorite in the British cult show Utopia.

With 32 critics and industry prizes handed out thus far, Oscar nomination voting is now only 10 days away. So where does it all stand at the top of the New Year? The Palm Springs Film Festival kicks off later this week and the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards will soon mark the first televised ceremonies of the season.

Will “The Fabelmans” bring director Steven Spielberg his third statuette? Is it all locked and loaded for Ke Huy Quan? Will the early favorites such as Brendan Fraser go all the way? Who in God’s name will win lead actress and supporting actress? Who are the potential surprise nominees that could surge in these final days? Here are the tallies of awards earned so far.

Best Picture

  1. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” – 16
  2. “The Banshees of Inisherin” – 5
  3. “She Said” and “Tár” – 2

A24’s multiverse dramedy has been a critical darling with huge wins, including the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (where it tied with “Tár”). This is unsurprising given love for the feature since its debut. Whether the Daniels’ will tickle the fancy of the Academy at large has been the biggest question mark, no matter how passionate Film Twitter makes it sound. But who can blame them for being so bullish on its chances (at least on paper)? The box office hit is the critical leader in five categories and second in the tally in four others. But one fact that Oscar enthusiasts tend to forget — critics don’t vote at the Academy Awards. They provide a roadmap to the destination, but the Oscars can take their own path (and they almost always do).

This is still a wide-open race where “Banshees” could catch fire later down the road or a crowdpleaser like “Top Gun: Maverick” could take full advantage of a preferential ballot system. While “Tár” has only had two wins so far, LAFCA and New York Film Critics are significant. That bodes well for Todd Field, who is hunting for a directing nod.

Keep an eye on “She Said,” which remains a mysterious entity to consider, especially after its surprising AFI Top 10 mention.

Directing

  1. Daniels (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) – 16
  2. Todd Field (“Tár”) – 3
  3. Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Sarah Polley (“Women Talking”) and Charlotte Wells (“Aftersun”) – 2

The Daniels have performed brilliantly on the awards circuit, picking up many awards to accompany best picture wins. I’ve been on the record about feeling their road to the film winning the Oscars’ top prize is if the Academy feels a duo should be awarded. Is it impossible for the team to get recognized? Absolutely not.

If the Daniels can squeak out a Golden Globe win, making them the first directing duo to win with the 80-year-old group, their chances could greatly increase.

Best Actor

  1. Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) – 16
  2. Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) – 9

Farrell and Fraser are the only contenders that have won more than one critics’ prize this season. Bill Nighy’s LAFCA win for lead performance could continue to give him steam heading into the final days of SAG Awards voting. He’s pulled in the key noms for a Globe and Critics Choice.

It’s worth noting that Austin Butler’s turn in “Elvis” and Gabriel LaBelle in “The Fabelmans” have each picked up two breakout awards on the circuit.

Best Actress

  1. Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) – 15
  2. Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) – 11
  3. Danielle Deadwyler (“Till”) – 2

A tight race if ever there was one, with Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh pulling away from the pack. Danielle Deadwyler’s two wins will hopefully keep her on the radar for a while. The only other women to have garnered mentions are Vicky Krieps for “Corsage” (perhaps helping the film’s chances in international feature) and Rosy McEwen for “Blue Jean” (a potential BAFTA favorite).

Supporting Actor

  1. Ke Huy Quan (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) – 24
  2. Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) – 2

When Ke Huy Quan won the Gotham Award for best supporting performance, it was the symbolic kickoff to his dominant campaign. He earned it with his turn as the lovable Waymond Wang in the Daniels’ martial arts spectacle. His competition looks to be Brendan Gleeson’s Irish musician in Martin McDonagh’s romp. Only Gleeson and Quan have been named among the precursors being tracked.

Supporting Actress

  1. Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) – 9
  2. Janelle Monáe (“Glass Onion”) – 4
  3. Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) – 3

A surprising turn of events has been Kerry Condon’s fiery turn in “Banshees” being the most awarded on the circuit up to this point, but it makes sense when knowing many of these organizations vote with a preferential ballot system. It’s easy to see Condon’s performance as a consistent no. 2 and no. 3 choices, with everyone having different favorites. The same could be said for Janelle Monáe’s double character duty.

Stephanie Hsu’s team is hoping the young breakout of “Everything Everywhere” can join her co-star Jamie Lee Curtis on the Oscar ballot, especially with the third most wins of the season. Notably, she also has two wins for breakthrough performer, which we don’t count in the tally in this race.

To highlight the unknown trajectory of this category, 11 different actresses have won prizes with Curtis and Keke Palmer (“Nope”), as the only ones to have more than one. Other notables include Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), Jessie Buckley (“Women Talking”), Hong Chau (“The Whale”), Dolly De Leon (“Triangle of Sadness”) and Nina Hoss (“Tár”).

To see the ranked predictions for each individual category, visit Variety’s Oscars Hub.

The top three artisan leaders are also listed below (where applicable).

Note: Not every organization hands out wins for the corresponding category. For “screenplay” only winners, we’ve applied it to the place where it’s competing and have only named the top three if there is more than one win for the film.

Original Screenplay

  1. “The Banshees of Inisherin” – 15
  2. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” – 10
  3. “Tár” – 3

Adapted Screenplay

  1. “Women Talking” – 5
  2. “She Said” – 3
  3. “Glass Onion” and “The Whale” – 2

Animated Feature

  1. “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” – 14
  2. “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” – 8
  3. “Turning Red” – 3

Production Design

Cinematography

  1. “Top Gun: Maverick” – 15
  2. “Nope” – 3

In 2019, during the time of the Pandemic, when Noah Baumbach picked up a copy of White Noise by Don DeLillo to re read it, after just having lost hus father, it had a big effect on him.

According to Noah Baumbach the film dives deep into “The lengths that people go to defend themselves or their families or children from perceived or unperceived dangers of the outside while ignoring the fissures that are occurring inside.”

Courtesy of Netflix

White Noise is set in the 80’s and that heavily translates onscreen. “White Noise was designed as a kind of idea of the 1980s,” Baumbach explained during a recent phone conversation about the making of the film. The Netflix production is the closest thing to a big blockbuster that he has directed so far. This is also his second collaboration with Adam Driver. “It was fun to essentially do a nostalgic, alternate ’80s, which wasn’t really what the decade was like. Everything was inspired by real things, but we were looking at a memory-slash-fantasy-slash-idea of a time and place.”

Courtesy of Netflix

The story follows the Gladney family. At once hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic, “White Noise” dramatizes a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world. Starring Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Don Cheadle, Raffey Cassidy, Sam Nivola, May Nivola, Lars Eidinger, Andre Benjamin, Jodie Turner-Smith. Written and Directed by Noah Baumbach, Produced by David Heyman, Uri Singer, Executive Produced by Brian Bell and Leslie Converse with Music by Danny Elfman.

This enthralling story asks the questions of life and death in a comedic, and entertaining way, the film throws you into the midst of unexpected situations, with vivid cinematography, colorful costumes and exciting action, as well as complex characters. We see brilliant leading performances from Adam Driver for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination and Greta Gerwig as well as a great supporting performance from Don Cheadle.

In a recent interview with Tudum
Noah Baumbach spoke about the toe tapping end credits scene, set in the supermarket and how crucial it is to the film. “The supermarket is both ordinary and extraordinary at the same time, it depends on how and when you look at it.” The end credits songs ends with a new LCD Soundsystem song, “new body rhumba.”

“I’ve been friends with James Murphy, the band’s front man since he did songs for Greenberg,” Baumbach says. “After choreographer David Neumann and I worked on the dance for a bit, I asked James if he could write an upbeat song about death. I knew this would appeal to him. As would the ’80s time period.”

Courtesy of Netflix

Speaking about the dance sequence, Baumbach goes on to say “The dance sequence was shot over two days on the supermarket set designed by Jess Gonchor in an abandoned Home Depot. Weeks in advance, James, David and I came up with a tempo that worked for the movement. James later wrote the song to fit the tempo.”

He goes on to say “What I love about David’s choreography is that it’s designed to fit the individual. Some of the movement is more complex and involved and some is very simple. So, everyone could move and dance in a way that represented and celebrated themselves.”

According to Baumbach “The final scene is a dance of death and a dance of life. It’s a celebration of all that’s ending. Which is a celebration of all that is.”

Terrifying moment hundreds of men swarm around lone girl, 17, and attack her for ‘dressing immodestly and distracting riders’ at a motorcycle event in Iraq

  • The girl attempts to escape the angry mob as they kick her and call her a ‘b****’
  • A man accompanying the girl was reportedly stabbed while trying to protect her
  • Sixteen men arrested by Sulaymaniyah police in connection with the incident

Shocking footage has emerged of a teenage girl being attacked by a crowd of men for dressing ‘immodestly’ at a motorcycle event in Iraq.

The 17-year-old was targeted by a male mob who accused her of distracting riders at the racing event in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

Video filmed and shared by a racegoer in Sulaymaniyah showed the teenager attempting to walk away from the area before being forced to run as a crowd of men pursued her screaming: ‘B****’.

The girl, who is an Iranian national, was wearing a black vest top with a cardigan and a skirt.

Other videos posted on TikTok showed her being surrounded by bikers on the track as spectators cheer them on.

The site is said to be a famous spot for racing events that often have female participants, and the girl, identified as L Tehrani, is reportedly a regular at the track.

Men at this specific event, on December 30, demanded that women be excluded, according to a report by Kurdistan’s Draw Media.

The girl was accompanied a male friend, named as A Khanaq, who tried to intervene and escort her to safety.

But he was beaten and stabbed by the crowd, according to a report in The National News.

Sixteen men have been arrested by Sulaymaniyah police in connection with the incident and multiple knives and swords were also recovered from the suspects’ possession.

The incident comes as female demonstrators in neighbouring Iran continue to tear off their hijabs, cut off their hair and battle officers in protest after a young woman died in police custody having been arrested for not wearing the veil.

Just days ago an Iranian woman was jailed for ten years for ‘encouraging prostitution’ after she removed her headscarf at a protest last year.

Synology has patched a vulnerability discovered in its router software, that’s been rated maximum severity – 10/10.

According to an advisory released by the NAS manufacturer, the vulnerability was discovered in its VPN Plus Server software, and is now being tracked as CVE-2022-43931.

The software allows the routers to be configured as VPN servers and enables remote access to the endpoints behind that router.

Remote code execution and other woes

Apparently, threat actors can exploit the flaw in low-complexity attacks, and would not require any privileges, or user interaction, to gain access, with an extensive list of potential damage.

“A vulnerability allows remote attackers to possible execute arbitrary command via a susceptible version of Synology VPN Plus Server,” the advisory reads. “Out-of-bounds write vulnerability in Remote Desktop Functionality in Synology VPN Plus Server before 1.4.3-0534 and 1.4.4-0635 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via unspecified vectors.”

Out-of-bounds write vulnerabilities allow for data corruption, system crashes, as well as code execution following memory corruption, BleepingComputer explained.

This is not the first time Synology has had to address a high-severity vulnerability in its products – as in December 2022, it patched multiple such flaws discovered in its Router Manager.

“Multiple vulnerabilities allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary command, conduct denial-of-service attacks or read arbitrary files via a susceptible version of Synology Router Manager (SRM),” the company said at the time.

No CVEs were published for these vulnerabilities, but we do know that at least two security experts and teams were successful at creating a proof-of-concept using the Synology RT6600ax (opens in new tab) router, during the Pwn2Own Toronto 2022 hacking contest.

Cybersecurity researcher Gaurav Baruah was awarded $20,000 for successfully running a command injection attack against the WAN interface of the Synology RT6600ax.

In April last year, the company announced patching a number of flaws affecting multiple products: “Multiple vulnerabilities allow remote attackers to obtain sensitive information and possibly execute arbitrary code via a susceptible version of Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) and Synology Router Manager (SRM),” the firm said in an advisory back then.

“He’s always there behind me, clawing at that, especially when I’m shooting,” Bentley said of portraying the complicated Jamie Dutton in the hit Paramount series.

Wes Bentley is reflecting on the plight of Jamie Dutton.

The “Yellowstone” actor plays Jamie, the son of rancher-turned-governor John Dutton (Kevin Costner), in the hit Paramount Network series. Yet Bentley’s emotional journey through depression has anchored the character, forcing Bentley to create new boundaries between his roles and home life.

“He’s incredibly sad,” Bentley told The New York Times of his character Jamie. “I’ve always dealt with my sadness with things like comedy, or humor, or drugs at one point, or trying to just ignore it and finding another way out of it. But you can’t do that when you’re trying to portray someone’s sadness. You have to let it be there. That’s been the hardest part of it all, and it’s weighed on my life a little bit.”

Bentley has portrayed Jamie since “Yellowstone” debuted in 2018. Season 5 returns this summer.

“I’ve prided myself for most of my career on leaving it at the door, or like an athlete would say, leaving it on the field,” Bentley continued. “But Jamie’s sadness permeates my life, even though I’m not sad. I’m very lucky to have a great family and be where I’m at in life, but he’s always there behind me, clawing at that, especially when I’m shooting.”

Bentley added that his wife, “Dolan’s Cadillac” associate producer and assistant director Jacqui Swedberg, warns him about letting Jamie permeate his psyche.

“‘You’re letting him come home now,’” Bentley recalled Swedberg telling him. “‘Jamie’s coming home, and we don’t want him here.’”

Bentley previously opened up about battling addiction in his early career. In 2008, Bentley pled guilty to heroin possession; the actor has since been sober since July 2009.

“Before I was like, ‘I’m partying, fine, but I can stop this,’” Bentley said. “Now it was like, ‘Man, I can’t stop this, and I really want to.’…The regrets are always going to be there.”

Bentley summed up, “I believe in fate, and I believe I went through all that, caused all that, and experienced all that, because I was going to get here. There are many things that I regret, but I’m just so happy with my life.”

The latest sighting comes after Leo was recently linked to model Victoria Lamas. They were seen together three times in a week late last month following reports that Gigi Hadid was not ‘serious’ about their short-lived romance.

While the Hollywood hunk and Hadid were reportedly still dating in late November, the superstar appears to be moving on with Lorenzo Lamas’ daughter.

Leo’s outing with Victoria comes after he ended his four year relationship with Camila Morrone, 25, in August, a source close to Leo claimed to The Sun.

Lorenzo, 64, is best-known for playing Lance Cumson in the 1980s soap opera Falcon Crest, which ran for nine series.

He also starred in the 1978 movie Grease as minor character Tom Chisum, who was the captain of Rydell’s football team.

Meanwhile, Shauna, 51, is an American actress and was Playboy magazine’s Playmate of the Month for May 1996.

Banijay has taken full control of Mythbusters firm Beyond International and intends to rename and rebrand the Australian outfit as the “necessary integration process” kicks off. Beyond Managing Director and CEO Mikael Borglund is remaining in his current role. Banijay itself is part of FL Entertainment, which formed last July and is listed on Euronext Amsterdam through an agreement with SPAC investment group.

A Special Agent puts his challenges to good use in the first season of the Will Trent TV show on ABC. As we all know, Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like Will Trent is cancelled or renewed for season two. Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustrated when their viewing habits and opinions aren’t considered, we invite you to rate all of the first season episodes of Will Trent here.

An ABC procedural drama series, the Will Trent TV series is based on the book series by Karin Slaughter and stars Ramón Rodríguez, Erika Christensen, Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, and Sonja Sohn. The story follows Special Agent Will Trent (Rodríguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). A loner, he has the highest clearance rate in the GBI and can deconstruct a crime scene like no one else. Will was abandoned at birth and endured a traumatic childhood in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Despite his personal challenges, he’s determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was. Angie Polaski (Christensen) and Michael Ormewood (McLaughlin) are both detectives with the Atlanta Police Department but have very different backgrounds. Faith Mitchell (Richardson) is Will’s new partner at the GBI and was born into a law enforcement family. Amanda Wagner (Sohn) is the head of the GBI and Will and Faith’s boss.

What do you think? Which season one episodes of the Will Trent TV series do you rate as wonderful, terrible, or somewhere between? Do you think that Will Trent should be cancelled or renewed for a second season on ABC?

Check out our status sheets to track new TV series pickups, renewals, and cancellations. You can find lists of cancelled shows here.

Chazelle was inspired by Pacino’s arc in “The Godfather” for Calva’s Hollywood newcomer Manny.

Writer-director Damien Chazelle knew Diego Calva would go big or go home while casting for “Babylon.”

The Oscar winner selected “Narcos: Mexico” alum Calva after a 2020 screen test opposite Margot Robbie. Chazelle filmed the chemistry read on his cellphone and immediately compared Calva’s raw talent to that of legendary actor Al Pacino.

“He had this kind of Al Pacino-level ability to command the camera without seeming to do anything,” Chazelle told The New York Times. Chazelle noted that Pacino’s arc as Michael Corleone in “The Godfather” films in part inspired Calva’s role as Hollywood newcomer Manny.

Co-star Robbie shared of Calva’s performance, “It’s so transformative to act with him because he’s so present that you forget you’re doing a scene. He was the greatest scene partner I could ever wish for.”

Calva, who is nominated for a Golden Globe for his turn in “Babylon,” told IndieWire that playing Manny was “a different adventure every day,” adding, “It was a different mood and a different situation every day.”

He continued, “I like to tell the story of how we had the same first day on a Hollywood set. My first day is his first day, so some of the surprise faces or the awe you see in my face, or in Manny’s face — it’s me, sometimes. We share a lot of first new experiences, like meeting Brad Pitt, working with Margot Robbie, working with Damien, and in his case, maybe Nellie and Jack.”

And Calva isn’t the only “Babylon” star drawing comparisons to other Academy Award-winning performances. Eric Roberts, who also appears in the silent era-set film, likened Robbie’s scene-stealing turn as actress Nellie to Elizabeth Taylor and Sandy Dennis’ landmark performances in Mike Nichols’ “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

“I don’t watch myself anymore, because I’ve seen everything I do,” Roberts said. “But Damien Chazelle’s movie, I have watched that. I will also tell you that Margot Robbie is going to win an Academy Award for that. She gives the most incredible performance in ‘Babylon’ that I have ever seen. The two incredible actresses in ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ gave perfect performances, and it’s on that level. She blew me away. I couldn’t believe how brilliant every minute of every day she was.”

INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF INDIA 2022 REVIEW! Ali Abbasi’s third feature, Holy Spider, comes from a true-crime occurrence of serial murders in Iran in 2002. Saeed Hanaei, a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war, took upon himself what he called a ‘jihad’ of cleansing Iran of filth. Targeting sex workers in the streets of Mashhad, Hanaei murdered sixteen women and dumped their bodies. It all turned into one of the most heinous crime incidents in the country that gave him a nickname – Spider Killer.

Holy Spider, however, extends the narrative of a crime-thriller and police procedural drama. It does begin like one when we see a figure, visible only as a silhouette, picking up a prostitute off the streets and then taking her up to an apartment. It’s implied that he has brought her to his neighborhood as he constantly asks her to be quiet. He kills her, instead in a hush, and then dumps her body. But, not long after, Saeed Azmi (Mehdi Bajestani) is revealed to be the one drifting Mashhad at night, picking up his victims. A real family man, Saeed lives a respectful life in the suburbs with his wife, a son, and two kids, all unknown to his criminal activities. That’s one sign that Holy Spider won’t be just about catching and unmasking the culprit.

Bajestani looks the part and quite impeccably executes it. While working his day job and handling family affairs, he is calm, composed, well-loved, and respected in the family. But then, portraying his other, true self, his anger, obsession, and wicked sense of morality bring the vileness of his character on-screen. His body language induces fright, while his thoughts and actions would make you immediately hate him.

“A journalist battles to unravel the truth behind a long going serial killings case left unsolved and neglected under oppressive socio-political biases.”

But it’s Zar Amir Ebrahimi who uplifts Holy Spider from an eccentric thriller to an investigative study of patriarchal ideologies and the symbolic struggle against them. Ebrahimi plays Rahimi, a journalist who travels to Mashhad to unravel the truth behind these ‘spider’ killings. In her first experience in the city, Rahimi is denied entry into the hotel she has pre-booked. Her being unmarried calls for policing of her character and her hijab, which has left strands of her hair visible. This is the first of many layers of film’s study into morality policing, gender bias, and stereotyping against women in Iran.

Ebrahimi’s character is a fictional one. She has nothing to do with the actual events of the serial killings Saeed orchestrated. But, perhaps, Abbasi’s true motives behind recreating a two-decade-old case better mirror with a strong female protagonist, who makes up for a great contrast against the actual situation of women’s rights and liberties in Iran. Abbasi’s Holy Spider is perhaps coming forth at the right time, with Iran erupting in protests, marches, and globally communicated activism that supports equality for the suppressed gender. Rahimi, an independent, strong-minded lady, is a striking bullet to the misogyny embedded in Iran’s well-established patriarchal ideals.

At one point, she also battles sexism and unwanted advances from a police officer, going against the odds to bring all those murdered women justice. A figure of authority treating Rahimi with such behavior further digs into the severity of the issue in discussion.

In the last month of 2022, Netflix’s hit “Wednesday” just beat out the platform’s long-time flagship original series, “Stranger Things,” to be the most in-demand show available on the platform at the start of December, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.
