“NCIS: LA” viewers were alarmed this week when the Season 14 premiere of the CBS procedural did not include Linda Hunt’s Hetty, the character whose last known location was Syria. In the episode, the team received word that a body had been a body found in Syria. By the end, they learn that it was a child’s body but they had Hetty’s IDs attached to them — likely because she wanted to stage her own death.

While it hasn’t been determined what exactly she’s up to, there are plans for her to return to the show this season, confirms executive producer R. Scott Gemmill, especially with Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Anna’s (Bar Paly) nuptials.

“Hetty has been an integral force within the agency and an especially important part of Callen’s past,” Gemmill told Variety in a statement on Tuesday. “As Callen starts thinking about his upcoming wedding to Anna, he would want Hetty present. The plan is to go and rescue her at some point and find out what she’s gotten herself into in Syria, but we’re just trying to figure out when we can pull it off. The goal is to make it happen this season.”

Hunt last appeared in the Season 13 premiere, titled “Subject 17,” which aired in October 2021. Gemmill confirmed last year that, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Hunt’s role was made smaller in order to keep the 77-year-old actor safe.

“NCIS: Los Angeles” airs on CBS Sundays at 10 p.m.

Rumors of a “Barbarella” remake have orbited studios for years, but it seems Sony Pictures may have finally found an actress up to the challenge of filling Jane Fonda’s shiny space boots. On Tuesday, Deadline reported that two-time Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney, known for HBO’s “The White Lotus” and “Euphoria” among other projects, would star in and executive produce a reimagining of Roger Vadim’s 1968 space adventure.

The news comes on the heels of announcements confirming Sweeney’s involvement in two other Sony films. She’ll play an undisclosed role opposite Dakota Johnson in “Madame Web” and both star in and executive produce an adaptation of Madison Lawson’s thriller novel “The Registration.”

As with the original sci-fi flick, the early-stages “Barbarella” remake would reportedly adapt Jean-Claude Forest’s comic series, which ran as a serialized strip for the French publication V Magazine in early 1962 before getting published as a book in 1964. Although not an immediate critical or box office success, Vadim’s big screen spin has earned a cult following in the decades since it hit theaters.

The film follows the titular Barbarella — an intergalactic explorer from the 41st century and a representative for a United Earth (ha!) — as she hunts down the villainous scientist Durand Durand and the dangerous laser technology that human intelligence suspects he has developed. Along her journey, Barbarella encounters a variety of strange beings who challenge her innocence and pure vision of the galaxy.

The campy film explores themes of sexual liberation and, though its success within that arena is debatable, it remains remarkable for a unique visual style, its highly inventive character and set designs, and a prolific, period-appropriate appreciation for the good ol’ Lynda Carter bodysuit and boots combo audiences would see plenty of in the ’70s. Fonda’s performance as Barbarella is divisive among critics, with some arguing her character’s sexless naivety played more spaced-out than satirical and others saying Fonda was the one who made the rest of the strangely slow film watchable.

Among the numerous remakes rumored over the years, Rose McGowan was previously expected to play “Barbarella” in a project the actor was developing with then-fiancé Robert Rodriguez.

Warner Bros. Television Group handed out pink slips to 82 staffers on Tuesday, representing 19% of the studio’s workforce, across its scripted, unscripted and animation divisions. Additionally, it has opted not to fill 43 additional vacant positions — making for a total elimination of 125 jobs (or 26% of an approximately 481 headcount).

Warner Bros. TV Group declined comment, but it’s understood that chairman Channing Dungey detailed to staff a series of changes that included various levels of consolidation in unscripted and animation. Also, as reported Tuesday afternoon, the company has closed Stage 13, a shingle focused on diverse shortform programming (leading to the exit of Stage 13 head Diana Mogollón), and will end the Warner Bros. Television Workshop, which had existed for decades as a training ground for new creative talent in both writing and directing.

The layoffs were expected as the latest cost cutting move inside Warner Bros. Discovery, which merged in April and since then has attempted to make good on its mission to cut costs by $3 billion. It also comes just two years after a previous round of layoffs, under the WarnerMedia banner, had already cut into Warner Bros.’ workforce by at least 650 people.

More recently, in August, WBD eliminated around 70 jobs, or 14% of the workforce, from HBO and HBO Max, as the company prepares to merge HBO Max and Discovery+ into one streamer.  Unscripted programming, scripted children’s and family fare, casting, international and acquisitions were hardest hit. And in September, WBD let go of 100 employees as part of the downsizing of the company’s ad sales departments.

As outlined on Tuesday, Dungey’s direct reports remain, as do the umbrella divisions that fall under the Warner Bros. TV Group banner — but more consolidation has occurred.

In the non-fiction space, Mike Darnell remains as president of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television and continues to report to Dungey; Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, Telepictures and Shed Media will continue as separate shingles under Darnell’s domain.

But with the announcement Monday that Warner Horizon Unscripted TV head Brooke Karzen was departing, some creative development and programming oversight will now be combined between Warner Horizon and Telepictures. (Warner Horizon productions fall under union work, while Telepictures is generally not under union rules.) With Karzen’s exit, Bridgette Theriault and Dan Sacks will now lead Warner Horizon, while David McGuire continues to lead Telepictures, and Lisa Shannon and Dan Peirson continue to run Shed Media.

Physical production, business affairs, and finance teams for unscripted programming had already been consolidated between Warner Horizon, Telepictures and Shed Media following the 2020 cuts.

With the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, Shed Media is expected to develop and produce more content for the Discovery networks, while overall Warner Bros.’ unscripted units will continue to sell to external platforms and create formats for international as well.

In animation, Sam Register will continue to oversee Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. Those three labels will continue to exist, but development and main production teams for Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios will now merge (while Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe will maintain a separate team). The three shingles had already shared the same current programming, casting, legal/business affairs and artist relations teams.

Under the new setup, a kids and family series development team will be led by Audrey Diehl, adult animation development will be led by Peter Girardi, and animated longform series development will be led by Sammy Perlmutter, with Bobbie Page leading main production.

Despite the changes, output will remain the same as Cartoon Network Studios continues to produce original animated fare for internal outlets including Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and HBO Max. And with HBO Max moving away from adult animation, there will be a renewed push for producing for third-party networks and outside platforms as well. Warner Bros. Animation focuses on more pre-existing characters and IP.

Also under Dungey’s direct report, Warner Bros. TV president Brett Paul continues on the scripted side with no major structural changes beyond the closure of Stage 13 (which comes as the company decides to no longer invest in short-form production). The biggest change to scripted came back in 2020, when Warner Bros. TV and Warner Horizon Scripted TV were merged.

Meanwhile, as broadcasters pull back on their number of series and pilots — as it appears more likely that networks may reduce their primetime hours, and The CW shifts its focus under new ownership — Warner Bros. TV will likely reduce its roster in terms of writer deals as well.

Nonetheless, Warner Bros. TV is still aiming to be a major supplier of programming, first for its own sister platforms (the studio has 15 scripted and unscripted series currently with HBO Max, plus more than 20 animated shows) in addition to outside entities. Warner Bros. recently scored Emmys for “Ted Lasso,” which it produces for Apple TV+, and “Abbott Elementary,” which it produces for ABC. Warner Bros.’ scripted, unscripted and animated divisions count more than 120 shows in production for more than 20 different platforms.

Here is the memo distributed to staffers this afternoon by Dungey:

Team,

Today I write to you with sad news and a heavy heart. As many of you have already learned, some of our treasured colleagues will be leaving the company because of restructuring and realignment within our group. This was strictly a business decision, made as thoughtfully and compassionately as possible by studio leadership. But understanding that doesn’t make this moment any easier. These colleagues are more than just people with whom we’ve worked, they are part of our work family. We spend more time together than we do with most other people in our lives. Because of that, this loss is painful and difficult. For those impacted by the changes, I want you to know how grateful I am for your contributions – in some cases, spanning decades – and how deeply sorry I am.

There are a few changes happening within WBTVG that I would like to make specific note of here:

As part of the strategic realignment on the unscripted side, run by Mike Darnell, President, Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, we are making some changes aimed at finding synergies within the group, which includes Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, Telepictures, and Shed Media.

As you may have read yesterday, Brooke Karzen, head of Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, informed us in the last few weeks that she would like to try something new with her career after a highly successful 22-year run at the company. Brooke has been synonymous with The Bachelor brand for more than 20 years, overseeing the original show and developing The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, and many other extensions that have propelled The Bachelor into a global hit franchise. Her other successes include Emmy winner The Voice, Ellen’s Game of Games, and the Friends and Harry Potter reunion specials, to name just a few. Please join me in saluting Brooke for her tremendous accomplishments and wishing her the best in the future.

As a result of Brooke’s departure, Bridgette Theriault and Dan Sacks will now be leading Warner Horizon. We are combining some creative development and programming roles to work across both Warner Horizon and Telepictures, with David McGuire continuing to lead Telepictures. Lisa Shannon and Dan Peirson will continue to run Shed Media.

Working across all three unscripted divisions, Kevin Fortson continues to lead all aspects of physical production (including budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and more), and Matt Matzkin maintains oversight of all business affairs, legal, and finance for unscripted series.

In Animation, run by Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, we are implementing a new streamlined structure in which the development and main production teams will now work across both Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios. The kids and family series development team will be led by Audrey Diehl, adult animation development will be led by Peter Girardi, and animated longform series development will be led by Sammy Perlmutter, with Bobbie Page leading main production. This is an extension of the cross-studio teams that have already been in place for current programming, casting, legal and business affairs, and artist relations. Ed Adams will continue as Executive Vice President and General Manager.

On the scripted side, run by Brett Paul, President, Warner Bros. Television, our senior creative leadership team remains in place. Clancy Collins White continues to head up development, with Vicki Dummer as head of current programming. Adam Glick continues to serve as head of business affairs, Sue Palladino as head of production, and Mele Nagler as head of casting.

We will be closing Stage 13, which was founded in 2017 under the former Warner Bros. Digital Networks division as a studio for original digital shortform programming and has produced past series such as Special and It’s Bruno! for Netflix, Two Sentence Horror Stories for The CW/Netflix, and more. WBTV has already been supervising Stage 13 development and programming since 2020. Any existing Stage 13 projects in development will be absorbed within WBTV, which continues to be committed to finding new voices and providing opportunities for its richly diverse creative collaborators to tell authentic stories. I want to thank Diana Mogollón for her passionate leadership of Stage 13 and for the groundbreaking series that she and her team produced.

Also, following the conclusion of the current 2022–23 edition of the Warner Bros. Writers’ Workshop in April, we will be closing the Warner Bros. Television Workshop program, which includes both the Writers’ Workshop and the Directors’ Workshop. Both workshops have been instrumental in training the next generation of creative talent in the industry. While we will no longer have these formalized programs in place, we remain committed to developing and mentoring emerging talent and preparing them for careers in television.

As of this writing, all the impact conversations for WBTVG are complete. Out of respect to our colleagues, we will not be distributing a list of those impacted. Your direct managers will provide you with information about roles changing within specific groups. Your P&C partner will be available as well to address any questions or concerns. During this period of transition, please support each other, and be gentle with one another.

These are challenging times in the world at large, and a tumultuous time in our industry. For this kind of change to hit so close to home is incredibly difficult. But my hope is that these changes, made with an eye to a more focused business strategy, will strengthen and stabilize our company, maintain our great creative output, and better position us for continued future success.

Yet today we are losing members of our work family that we love, whose hard work has helped make our success possible, and for that I am truly sorry. I want everyone who is leaving to know that your contributions mattered, and the shows that you helped bring to life will always be part of the Warner Bros. Television Group legacy. Thank you for being part of our story.

With the deepest gratitude,

Channing

1962: The War in The Hills
Cast: Abhay Deol, Sumeet Vyas, Mahie Gill, Anup Soni
Director: Mahesh Manjrekar

For the characters to be throwing around words like ‘the army’ and ‘war’ so often, 1962: The War in The Hills barely has any convincingly choreographed battle scenes to live up to the reputation of its projected theme. Most of the episodes are set in the countryside, where personal relationships of returning officers and their girlfriends take precedence. It evokes empathy but only to a certain extent as the dialogues are expository in nature and you can’t relate to the situations at play.

Not only do such scenes appear as terrible add-ons to the screenplay, they are dragged with unnecessary conversations that has no role to play in the larger scheme of things. Digression, and too much of it, weighs down the show as insincere performances keep mounting to the woes.

The War in the Hills has its battlefield scenes moulded on similar movies and shows that precede it. Sad part is some of the soldiers are made out to be unthinking and even brazenly unintelligent. For instance, one army man is shown to be killed while taking a toilet break as his team marches on, searching for the enemy. There is not much novelty in the battle scenes as well as the production looks shoddy and inspired.

Frankly, there’s not much in the show to take you beyond a couple of episodes. But if you dare watch it still, be it. Abhay Deol, the lead hero, is as unconvincing an army person as there can be. He keeps floating in and out of the scenes, with confused expressions and voice modulation.

The War in The Hills does great disservice to content creation on OTT.

What role you remember first when you think of Angela Lansbury speaks to how old you are — with an extraordinary career spanning more than 80 years, Lansbury brought indelible performances to generations of filmgoers, stage fans, and TV watchers.

Perhaps your go-to is Jessica Fletcher, the TV sleuth she played from 1984-1996. Or maybe you get a shiver of delight thinking of her Broadway turns as the madcap Mame Dennis of “Mame” or the duplicitous Mrs. Lovett of “Sweeney Todd.” Some fans embrace her as the loving mother-turned-teapot in the animated “Beauty and the Beast” while others get a cold sweat recalling her ruthless mommy in the original “The Manchurian Candidate.”

There are no wrong answers here; for most of the 20th century and a decent chunk of the 21st, Angela Lansbury did it all — drama, comedy, musical, stage, screen, warm, terrifying — and she did it brilliantly.

Born in London in 1925, she fled the Blitz in 1940 and came to New York to study acting. By 1942, she’d signed with MGM in Los Angeles and immediately appeared in three films that remain classics to this day: “Gaslight” and “The Picture of Dorian Gray” (both of which earned her Oscar nominations) as well as “National Velvet.” She was anything but sweetness and light during her years at the studio, playing the yin to Judy Garland’s sweet yang in “The Harvey Girls” as well as the unfaithful Queen Anne in “The Three Musketeers” (1948), but she ultimately felt disappointed in the roles offered her and dissolved her contract in 1952.

The rest of the decade involved having children, doing some stage and TV work, as well as roles in a smattering of films, the most memorable being “The Court Jester,” “The Long Hot Summer” and “The Reluctant Debutante.” But Lansbury’s screen career burned hot anew in the 1960s, since her level of poise and intensity made her a favorite for filmmakers who cast her as characters older than she was. In 1962 alone, John Frankenheimer cast the then 37-year-old Lansbury as the mother of 25-year-old Warren Beatty (in “All Fall Down”) and the mother of 34-year-old Laurence Harvey (in “The Manchurian Candidate”).

That latter performance earned Lansbury her third and final Academy Award nomination (she earned an honorary Oscar in 2014) and remains one of the cinema’s all-time terrifying mothers. Eleanor Iselin is grasping and withholding, brashly condescending and manipulative, bigoted yet brilliant — and that’s before the plot twist. And because Lansbury embraced playing older women at a relatively young age, she didn’t have to worry about the difficult transition many screen ingenues have faced when moving into more mature roles in the notoriously sexist film industry.

The 1960s also saw Lansbury’s stage career take off; she played the lead in Stephen Sondheim’s 1964 “Anyone Can Whistle” (it flopped then but is beloved now) and most famously dazzled in the title role of Jerry Herman’s “Mame” in 1966, a role that made her a huge Broadway star (and a Tony winner) at the age of 41. She would find later success with Sondheim, first in a 1973 revival of “Gypsy” and then originating the role of Mrs. Lovett in 1979’s “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

She would continue to move back and forth between the stage and the cinema, and while 1980’s “The Mirror Crack’d” wasn’t a game-changer in the pantheon of Agatha Christie adaptations, Lansbury’s turn as legendary sleuth Miss Marple was clearly an a-ha moment for the actress, who would soon sign on for “Murder, She Wrote,” a cozy mystery series created by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson and William Link. (Levinson and Link had previously created “Columbo.”) As the somewhat Marple-esque novelist Jessica Fletcher, constantly discovering corpses and solving murders in the quaint village of Cabot Cove, Maine, Lansbury hit upon a winning formula that tapped into her ability to play sympathetic and shrewd while also providing lots of special-guest-star opportunities for fellow veterans of Hollywood’s golden age.

A long-running series would have provided the perfect golden parachute for retirement, but Lansbury never seemed to slow down. In 1999, she joined the cast of the animated “Beauty and the Beast” — singing the title song for good measure — and spent the early part of the 2000s still working in film (including “Nanny McPhee,” “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” and “Mary Poppins Returns”), stage (earning acclaim for her Broadway work in “Deuce” and “Blithe Spirit,” and having to drop out of “The Grand Budapest Hotel” because of her commitment to an Australian revival of “Driving Miss Daisy” opposite James Earl Jones) and television (she earned an Emmy nomination for a 2005 “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” appearance, delivered a moving turn in the 2004 Hallmark Hall of Fame adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s “The Blackwater Lightship” and made her final small-screen appearance in the BBC’s 2017 production of “Little Women”).

Perhaps her “Sweeney Todd” co-star Len Cariou best summed up Lansbury’s extraordinary longevity when he noted, in 2012, “Ange is classy and elegant, warm and generous, but she’s also tough and expects everyone around her to give their all. As far as she is concerned, there is no challenge that can’t be at least partially met with a ‘cuppa’ very strong Yorkshire Gold. Working on the stage keeps her vibrant. A healthy regimen keeps her beautiful. What keeps her ageless is her immense curiosity, her exuberance for life, and her tremendous gift for holding on to joy.”

“One of the many joys of our epic story is the element of time travel which allows us to revisit some of our favorite characters in different times and places, and we’re thrilled to welcome back so many familiar faces for season seven,” says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, writer and executive producer. “In addition to our returning cast, we’re also excited to welcome several new actors to the ‘Outlander’ family and cannot wait to introduce them to fans in our extended season.”

The “Outlander” television series is inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books, which have sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide, with all nine of the books gracing the New York Times best-seller list. The “Outlander” television series has become a worldwide success with audiences, spanning the genres of history, science fiction, romance and adventure in one amazing tale.

Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan executive produce. “Outlander” is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures and Story Mining & Supply Company, in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Starz announced the return of several fan-favorite

Today’s trailer roundup includes Love is Blind Season 3 and Slumberland, Prime Video’s Run Sweetheart Run, Disney+’s Limitless with Chris Hemsworth and Apple TV+’s Causeway.

Jason Momoa stars in Slumberland, coming to Netflix November 18. After her father Peter (Kyle Chandler) is unexpectedly lost at sea, young Nemo’s  (Marlow Barkley) idyllic Pacific Northwest existence is completely upended when she is sent to live in the city with her well-meaning but deeply awkward uncle Phillip (Chris O’Dowd). Her new school and new routine are challenging by day but at night, a secret map to the fantastical world of Slumberland connects Nemo to Flip (Momoa), a rough-around-the-edges but lovable outlaw who quickly becomes her partner and guide.

Run Sweetheart Run streams on Prime Video October 28. Single mom Cherie (Ella Balinska) is relieved and excited when she meets charismatic Ethan (Pilou Asbæk). Battered and terrified, she flees for her life, beginning a relentless game of cat-and-mouse with a bloodthirsty assailant hell-bent on her utter destruction.

Limitless with Chris Hemworth comes to Disney+ November 16. Part global scientific adventure, part personal journey, each episode of the series follows Chris as he takes up a gauntlet of physical and mental feats designed by world-class experts, scientists and doctors to unlock different aspects of the aging process. Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry star in Causeway on Apple TV+ November 4. Lawrence plays Lynsey, a military engineer who has returned to the States from Afghanistan with a debilitating brain injury after an IED explosion. It’s a painful and slow recovery as she relearns to walk and re-trains her memory, aided by a chatty but tender caretaker (Jayne Houdyshell). Writing a pre-coverage article about the up-and-coming Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters, set to premiere on The CW this Tuesday October 11th at 8pm should be a simple enough task, right?  Well, to get started, I knew there was no way I could write this without first paying homage to all that lends itself as a legacy, a canon, a history, and an era that is Supernatural.  I was tempted to use the past tense [was Supernatural] but alas, even though the show ended its reign in 2020, Supernatural is no has-been.  There is nothing Bijou about this fine lady.

Supernatural has often been referred to as a modest affair.  A little show that came from a small network (The CW), by comparative analysis with the big boys, like ABC, CBS, Fox, etc.  Viewership and ratings are relative in that regard so while the show is a success, many called Supernatural the “little engine that could” as it kept chugging along year after year.

So, one might think that The Winchesters is a new show that comes from humble beginnings.  Well, other than the lead actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, there is nothing humble about Supernatural.

Affectionately, The Mothership

The CW-Supernatural PosterHere are some facts that not only display Supernatural in the best possible light but will offer up this writer’s bold prediction that The Winchesters will turn out, like the mothership that launched her, to be more successful and eminently more tenacious than she looks to be at first glance.

This Girl’s got Street Cred

  • Supernatural can boast some of the industries’ most prolific creators, writers, directors and producers including the original showrunner, Eric Kripke who is currently at the helm of The Boys on Prime Video.
  • She survived the tragic loss of their beloved Kim Manners, who was a director, mentor, patriarch, and friend.
  • The show lasted through network regime changes, timeslot changes and night-of-the-week changes.
  • It ran for 15 years and produced 327 episodes.
  • Its success resided firmly on the shoulders of it’s two lead actors, (Jared and Jensen) who appeared in all 327 episodes, solidifying their dogged work-ethic, grim persistence, dedication, and enduring love for the show.
  • Misha Collins joined the monster-hunting duo in season four and became an immediate fan favorite.
  • Part of the ever-winning formula that elevated Supernatural, was it’s band of much-loved supporting characters, which are too numerous to mention here, but check out the list.
  • It survived the paradigm shift in television as it evolved from linear viewing to the rise and dominance of streaming platforms and the birth of binge-watching.
  • The show continuously delights new and veteran viewers alike with its moving performances, great writing, robust storytelling, awesome music, visual effects, and a kick-ass car.
  • The show was unafraid to swing-for-the-fences and produced episodes that challenged the boundaries of storytelling and eagerly made fun of itself, resulting in a well-awarded (37 wins, 126 nominations) show.
  • And above all, Supernatural became the longest-running sci-fi/genre series in the history of American broadcast television.

The Fandom

  • When you compare Supernatural to other beginnings; YouTube (2005), Twitter (2006), First iPhone (2007), Tumblr (2007), Instagram (2010); you can see that Supernatural has survived evolutionary changes in social media, which is now the mainstay of communication and connection for a fandom that is a Titan among fandoms.
  • Supernatural got so big that it made its mark on San Diego Comic Con when Warner Bros announced a Supernatural panel in the coveted Hall H in 2016. Hall H, Comic-Con’s largest convention room, that can hold 6500 people, is typically reserved for huge movie reveals.
FS Netflix Life-SPN SDCC

FS Netflix Life-SPN SDCC

  • Supernatural’s fandom is knowledgeable, dedicated, supportive and fiercely protective of all things SPN and continuously participates in its own dedicated convention circuit powered by Creation Entertainment.   A fandom big enough to warrant its own convention circuit.
  • A fandom that has generated a multitude of writers, artists, photographers, YouTubers, website developers, charitable efforts, business ventures and a sense of family, connection, and inclusivity for its diverse and ever-growing members from around the globe.
  • Paying homage to the mothership and her fans could not be done without landing in the loving arms of all things Supernatural, her very own Wiki.
  • And amongst its most endearing accomplishments, the SPN Family, along with the show’s cast and crew, have touched millions of lives in ways that have championed mental health awareness, (Always Keep Fighting, You Are Not Alone), raised an immeasurable sum of resources for the needy (Random Acts, GISHWES) and strive always, to elevate kindness on a daily basis.

So yeah, I wouldn’t call Supernatural “humble beginnings.”  She is a juggernaut.  She is a success story destined to launch new, exciting, and long-awaited content that our SPN fandom can sink their teeth into.  So, lets do this!  Here comes The Winchesters!

Synopsis

Before Dean and Sam, there were their parents, John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester, The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John Winchester met Mary Campbell and put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world. When John returns home from fighting in Vietnam, a mysterious encounter sparks a new mission to trace his father’s past. In his journey, he crosses paths with 19-year-old demon hunter Mary, who is also searching for answers after the disappearance of her own father. The two join forces with young hunter-in-training Latika and easygoing hunter Carlos to uncover the hidden truths about both their families.

Leadership

In October 2020, it was announced that Jensen and Danneel Ackles had formed a new production company called Chaos Machine Productions and signed a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Television.  The following year, Chaos Machine declared their role as executive producers of The Winchesters.

The head of development for Chaos Machine is Renee Reiff, who previously worked as a creative executive with DC Entertainment.  Impressively, she is also a founding member of Out In Hollywood, an organization dedicated to advancing the representation of the queer community both in the content produced on screen and by the executives working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.

Canon

When news about The Winchesters started to surface, there was a collective shifting-in-our-seats-discomfort about a prequel that put John Winchester in the monster-hunting realm, when in Supernatural, John knew nothing of the hunter-life until after Mary’s death.  Upon closer introspection, and after some Q&A with our very own Jensen Ackles, the realization dropped that no one would know more about, or have a greater reverence for Supernatural canon, then him.

So, for those of us who care about whether or not canon will be served, I think it’s safe to say that we can all take solace in the fact that Mr. Ackles will circumnavigate known lore and in partnership with all the other talent working on The Winchesters, ensure that the storytelling honors the mothership in every way possible.

A Culture Shift

Supernatural, while it was bold in playing with form and out-of-the box storytelling, it was no vanguard in social movements promoting an ever-evolving milieu of diversity and inclusiveness.  In fact, if I may be so bold, I think it’s safe to describe Supernatural as a guy’s-guy, machismo, male centric show.  I think The Winchesters will represent a cultural shift and bring to audiences, a fresh perspective.  For starters, The Winchesters has a female at the head of the call sheet.  And they have a nonbinary actor Jojo Fleites as Carlos Cervantez, but I’m getting ahead of myself.  Let’s move on to the players.

The Players

The CW-John, Meg, Latika, Carlos

The CW-John, Meg, Latika, Carlos

The Winchesters sees Jensen Ackles reprise his role as Dean Winchester, who narrates.  At this point it is unknown about the depth and breadth of his on-screen and/or in-story involvement.

Taking over the reins as John Winchester is Drake Rodger.  While he clearly seems capable to personify a younger version of Jeffery Dean Morgan, he was also affectionately described as a combination of Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester and Jared Padalecki by Danneel and Jensen Ackles during the recent NYCC interview.

Meg Donnelly plays Mary Campbell, Dean and Sam’s mother and the daughter of Samuel Campbell.  Mary is an experienced demon hunter, who clearly is the bridge for John to enter the monster realm and become a hunter.  Though Mary tends to work alone, she also works with other hunters, including trainee Latika (Nida Khurshid) and the easygoing Carlos (Jojo Fleites). Together, the foursome work together to battle supernatural threats, including a centuries-old demonic force hell-bent on destruction.

The Winchesters also stars Bianca Kajlich as John’s mother Millie, who is determined to protect her son from a dangerous life of demon hunting, and Demetria McKinney as Ada, a bookstore owner whose interest in the occult proves instrumental in solving the mystery of Mary and John’s disappearing fathers.

Beyond the main cast, Tom Welling will play Mary’s father Samuel Campbell, who was played in Supernatural by Mitch Pileggi.

Premiere

The Winchesters is to premiere on Tuesday October 11/22 on The CW at 8:00 pm.

I personally am very excited to see this story unfold and watch these fine young actors grow and evolve along with these characters.

The details of the encounter between Bill Murray and a production staffer that led Disney’s Searchlight unit to abruptly shut down production of Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut “Being Mortal” in April have been revealed in a report from Puck.

Murray, 72, had become “particularly friendly” with a much younger woman on the production staff — not actress Kate Palmer, as some speculated — and believed she was flirting with him, the report said. At one point, when they were near a bed that was used on the set, Murray started kissing her body and straddling her, Puck revealed.

Both were wearing masks due to Covid protocols, the story said.

The legendary funnyman has publicly maintained that he intended the encounter as a joke. “I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way,” he told CNBC a few days after filming was shuttered. “The world’s different than it was when I was a little kid.”

The woman did not find any humor in the situation, and instead viewed it as entirely sexual, Puck reported, stating, “She was horrified.”

She made a complaint, backed up by a second staff member on the production who witnessed the incident and also reported it.

Filming on “Being Mortal” was shut down a few days later after the complaint made its way to executives at Disney. Murray reportedly paid settlement of “just north of $100,000” to the woman.

“Notably, the deal included another component besides a non-disclosure agreement: The woman agreed to waive any legal claims she might make against the producers of “Being Mortal,” including Searchlight and Disney,” Puck reported.

The details of the allegation came to light days before the fifth anniversary of the #MeToo movement, and as disgraced Hollywood titan and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein faces a new trial in Los Angeles for 11 counts of sexual assault stemming from allegations by five women. At the same time, the civil trial of Kevin Spacey on accusations brought by Anthony Rapp has entered its second week in London.

Murray reportedly “felt terrible” that his actions sent the film into limbo and cost his co-workers to essentially lose their jobs.

Meanwhile, “Being Mortal has languished in purgatory,” Puck reported, “and neither Searchlight nor Ansari has said whether the under-$20 million film will move forward.”

The film, based on Atul Gawande’s nonfiction book “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End,” was slated for release in 2023.

During his time away from the group, DeLonge has continued recording with Angels & Airwaves. He has notably committed much of his time to the study of aliens, UFOs, and conspiracy theories. He founded the company To the Stars Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2015 and was the executive producer behind the History Channel series Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation. In 2020, the Pentagon declassified UFO videos that DeLonge’s company had previously shared.

In the recent past, Barker has become something of an omnipresent cultural and tabloid figure. He has collaborated with Post Malone, Machine Gun Kelly, Willow, and XXXTentacion, to name a few. In May 2022, he married Kourtney Kardashian.

Since 2019, Hoppus has been hosting the Apple Music 1 radio show After School Radio. In 2021, he revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer; later that year, he said he was cancer free. In an August 2022 interview with People, Hoppus revealed that DeLonge and Barker visited him before he started chemotherapy. “It was the first time that all three of us were in the same room in, like, five years,” Hoppus said. “It’s actually better than it used to be. There was no agenda. There were no lingering grudges. It felt very back to what it should be: three friends sitting in a room.… Everybody’s in a really great place right now.”

Fox Nation is reopening the 1977 case of three young Girl Scouts who were murdered during a camping trip outside Tulsa, OK, just months after Hulu examined it in a documentary miniseries.

Fox Nation’s “Girl Scout Murders” will examine new revelations about the case that have recently surfaced due to Faith Phillips, an author who has written a book about the crime. In June of 1977, the bodies of three young girls, Lori Lee Farmer, 8; Michelle Guse, 9; and Doris Denise Milner, 10, of Tulsa, were discovered after they had been abducted from their tent during the night. Two different men have been identified as the potential killer over the years, but one was acquitted and the other was never found guilty by trial

Hulu examined the case in “Keeper of the Ashes,” a four-part docuseries that debuted in May, hosted by Kristin Chenoweth. The Fox Nation series will nod to the previous effort, in which a law-enforcement official suggests the case is nearly closed.

The Fox Nation series was produced in collaboration with Texas Crew, a production company. “Girl Scout Murders” debuts Monday , October 10 on Fox Nation. Phillips’ efforts to chronicle the case, and get evidence she believes is relevant to be considered by authorities, will play a role in the Fox Nation series’ storyline.

The subscription-based streaming service has increasingly focused on lifestyle programming, true crime serials and documentaries and new projects from celebrities who ran afoul of public opinion.

Amazon Prime Video unveiled a slate of six new Australian originals for 2023 at a showcase in Sydney tonight, along with first looks at three Australian scripted dramas that the streamer has already announced.

Described as part of a drive to increase investment into Australian-produced content, Amazon confirmed four docuseries and documentary features, one 90-minute live special and a series of stand-up specials from comedians including Dave Hughes, Tommy Little and Lizzy Hoo.

Docuseries include a second season of The Test, featuring the Australian men’s cricket team and filmed in the run-up the first Ashes Test match, with Pat Cummins taking on the captaincy in the wake of Tim Paine’s decision to resign. Amazon Studios produced the four-part series with Cricket Australia and Whooshka Media.

Feature-length doc, Hot Potato: The Story Of The Wiggles, tells the story of global sensation The Wiggles, the children’s entertainment group that had a new lease of life amusing locked-down tots during the pandemic. Produced by Augusto, Frog Productions and SAM Content, the show is billed as “both a celebration and exploration of more than thirty years of The Wiggles phenomenon and their re-emergence into the cultural zeitgeist in 2022.”

Australian dance institution Brent Street is given the docuseries treatment in Dance Life, following aspiring dancers striving for fame. Produced by EQMedia, Biscuit Tin and Creative Bubble, the five-part documentary series is currently shooting in Sydney.

The Defenders tells the story of Hakeem al-Araibi, a Bahraini footballer turned political refugee, who was arrested while on honeymoon in Thailand under an invalid Interpol warrant. The feature-length doc is produced by Sweetshop & Green.

The slate of new originals also includes Princess Pictures’ Hugh van Cuylenburg G.E.M, a 90-minute live special by the best-selling author of The Resilience Project on positive mental health strategies. The comedy specials include Dave Hughes: Ridiculous, Tommy Little: Pretty Fly For A Dickhead, Lizzy Hoo: Hoo Cares, Joel Creasey: Queen Of The Outback, and Rhys Nicholson’s Big Queer Comedy Concert.

“Prime Video is proud to announce that 2023 will be its biggest year for launching Australian content to local and international customers, with a record nine new Australian Amazon Originals launching next year,” said Hushidar Kharas, head of Prime Video Australia and New Zealand.

Tyler Bern, head of content, Prime Video Australia, New Zealand and Canada, added that the streamer has announced 23 Australian Original commissions since 2019. “We have been actively developing, commissioning, and acquiring local projects, and we are thrilled that our Australian customers are connecting with our local content.”

Amazon also presented first looks of previously announced scripted shows Class Of ’07, about a tidal wave hitting the 10-year reunion of an all-girls college and produced by Matchbox Pictures; crime series Deadloch, written and executive produced by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan; and novel adaptation The Lost Flowers Of Alice Hart, produced by Made Up Stories, Amazon Studios and Fifth Season, and starring Sigourney Weaver.

Austin Stoker, a Trinidadian American actor best known as the star of John Carpenter’s highly influential 1976 thriller “assault on Precinct 13,” died Oct. 7, his wife announced on Monday. He was 92.

“The love of my life,” Stoker’s wife, Robin Stoker, wrote on Facebook Monday when she announced his death. He was being treated for renal failure at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles when he died.

Stoker was born October 7, 1930 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He moved to the United States in his 20s and began his acting career in theater. He began acting on film in the late 60s and in the 1970s became a known for roles in action movies, Blaxsploitation and science fiction films, often playing law enforcement officers.

His roles include Bruce MacDonald in “Battle for the Planet of the Apes” (1973), Det. Potter in “Abby” (1974) and Brick Williams in “Sheba, Baby” (1975), among many others. He also frequently appeared on television, most notably Virgil Harvey in “Roots,” and roles on “Lou Grant,” “Trapper John, M.D.” and “Falcon Crest,” to name just a few.

But he’s best known for John Carpenter’s independent thriller “Assault on Precinct 13,” in which he starred as Ethan Bishop, a police officer forced to defend a shut-down station from a vicious gang seeking revenge against LAPD. A minor hit at the time, it’s now recognized as one of the most important action films of the 1970s and among Carpenter’s best films.

All YouTube users will soon get a new way of identifying themselves. The company announced today that @name handles will be used across the platform, a convention that’s common elsewhere on the internet but a departure for YouTube.

Every YouTube user will have a unique handle that applies across the platform, from channel pages to Shorts, YouTube’s TikTok competitor. Users can use a handle to mention others in comments, video descriptions, titles, and more, which YouTube says will make it easier for creators to reach audiences and increase visibility.

“We want to ensure creators can craft an identity as unique as their content, while giving viewers the confidence that they are interacting with their favorite creators,” YouTube says in its blog. Creators will still have a channel name, but handles will be unique, potentially cutting down on impersonator accounts.

Handles will appear across YouTube surfaces, including Shorts.
Image: YouTube

YouTube will be rolling out handles gradually starting this week by notifying users when it’s their turn to pick a handle, meaning some people will get to claim theirs before others. If a user has already created a personalized URL for their channel, that will be their default handle (they’ll have the option to change it once it’s their turn).

YouTube says it will roll out notifications based on factors like overall presence on the platform, subscriber count, and whether the channel is active. Claiming a handle could also be the push needed for creators who aren’t on YouTube to join the platform or tend to their account — users typically need 100 or more subscribers to create a custom URL (a notice says choosing, modifying, and deleting URLs is currently on pause).

YouTube will notify creators when it’s their turn to claim their handle.

The addition of handles brings YouTube further in line with TikTok just as the company doubles down on its investment into Shorts. Last month, YouTube announced it would bring monetization to Shorts, letting creators keep 45 percent of the ad revenue. It’s also added updates like watermarks to Shorts reposted elsewhere and tools to use longer videos in short-form clips over the last few months as it takes on TikTok.

A 21-year-old woman was shot to death on a sidewalk on the south side of Dallas last week after a dispute at a pickup basketball game went horribly wrong.

Asia Womack (pictured above) was found severely wounded last Monday night on Hamilton Avenue in the Texas city. She had been playing pickup basketball with friends at T.G. Terry Park when she was shot. According to Fox 4, she was “just steps from her home” when she was struck, and she was found there bleeding to death.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and transported her to the hospital. Sadly, Womack was pronounced dead at the hospital late on Monday night. Now, in the week since the tragedy, police in Dallas have begun to piece together what happened in the awful incident.

According to cops, Womack was a well-known athlete in the area. She had been a star player on the women’s basketball team at James Madison High School in recent years. On Monday, she was playing a pickup game with friends when the game devolved into a bitter argument.

A press release from the Dallas Police Department claims the alleged shooter — who has since been identified by police as 31-year-old Cameron Hogg (above, lower center) — apparently got into some kind of altercation with Womack at the park after losing to her. Mad about the loss, Hogg allegedly drove his children and brother home before returning to the park alone.

When he got back, Fox 4 first reported late last week, he allegedly shot Asia five times. Then, he fled from the scene before first responders could reach the scene. Cops say a surveillance camera footage in the area allegedly captured Hogg’s car driving away from the scene.

As of Sunday night, per Local 12, Hogg is still on the run. Police have already issued an arrest warrant for him. DPD spokesperson Kristin Lowman told Fox 4 about the investigation:

“Detectives are still working the case. No one is in custody at this time. They’ve been working it since Monday night, trying to find justice for Miss Womack.”

Asia’s mother also spoke to the news outlet about the senseless tragedy. Andrea Womack explained how Asia had known the alleged shooter well prior to things going horribly wrong last week:

“This was supposed to be a friend of Asia’s. She’s eaten with the man. She’s fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way.”

Local pastor John Delley summed up the awful situation in the simplest — and most heartbreaking — way:

“This is so senseless. You become embarrassed, basically, because a female beat you in basketball.”

So bleak.

Now, Asia’s mourning family is desperate for justice after her murder. The deceased woman’s aunt, Juanita Smith, told NBC 5 News (below):

“I believe in forgiveness, but justice needs to be served.”

We strongly agree with that.

Here is more on the investigation into Womack’s murder, and the search for Hogg, from CBSDFW (below):

According to Fox 4, Crime Stoppers is now offering a $5,000 award for information that leads to Hogg’s whereabouts and arrest. Police are asking witnesses to call 214-373-TIPS (8477) with leads.

Such a terrible situation. And over a basketball game?? Sickening. We send our condolences to Asia’s friends, family, and loved ones.

If you’re a Rebecca Welton looking for your Sam Obisanya, you might be in luck.

Bantr, the fictional dating app from “Ted Lasso” that allows people to have anonymous conversations without seeing pictures of each other, is coming to life courtesy of a new branded experience on Bumble (via Variety). Beginning this Thursday, October 13, Bumble will host weekly “Bantr Live” experiences in the app’s Date Mode section. The free experience, which begins at 7 p.m. ET, allows users to simulate the app that launched Sam and Rebecca’s twisty romance (and that many other AFC Richmond players endorsed as social media influencers).

Users who choose to try the Bantr Live experience will be randomly paired with another user and allowed to chat anonymously for three minutes. If both users are still interested at the end of the allotted time, they will appear in each other’s matches and be able to continue interacting through the normal Bumble app. The feature allows users to focus on personal chemistry before learning what their potential match looks like, but it also comes with another benefit: You’ll know that you’re talking to someone who shares your taste in sitcoms.

The experience launches Thursday, October 13 and

The Man Who Fell to Earth will not be back on Showtime.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the Paramount Global-backed premium cable network has declined to renew the series for a second season. The news comes as showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet had originally conceived the drama as a closed-ended limited series but changed course as they were halfway through making the first season. Sources say execs were very pleased with the show’s creative and felt the season came to a natural and fitting conclusion.

“Our thanks to the extraordinary Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet, John Hlavin and Sarah Timberman who did a great job of turning the David Bowie film into such a resonant tale for our times,” a Showtime spokesperson said in a statement to THR. “And kudos to a wondrous cast led by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Naomie Harris and Bill Nighy for bringing it to life. Alex and Jenny originally intended The Man Who Fell To Earth to be a close-ended story. While we flirted with the idea of expanding it into a second season, we all ultimately decided to embrace it as a one season story well told.”

Originally ordered to series for CBS All Access (now Paramount+) in 2019, The Man Who Fell to Earth was based on a 1963 novel by Walter Tevis (The Queen’s Gambit), which was adapted as a 1976 movie starring David Bowie. Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) starred in the drama and played a new alien who lands on our planet in a role that was crafted so as not to be compared to the one made famous by the late rocker. Harris, Nighy, Jimmi Simpson and Kate Mulgrew also starred in the series, which was moved to Paramount+ corporate sibling Showtime in March 2021 as the drama better suited the cabler’s roster of premium programming.

Kurtzman and Lumet (Star Trek: Discovery) served as co-showrunners along with Hlavin (Shooter). They executive produced with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Heather Kadin and Rola Bauer and Françoise Guyonnet of Studiocanal.

CBS Studios produced the drama along with Timberman/Beverly and Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout. Studiocanal owns rights to Tevis’ novel and a 1976 movie starring David Bowie based on the book.

The decision to not move forward with more Man Who Fell to Earth, sources say, also predates the recent executive change at Showtime parent Paramount Global in which David Nevins — who led a portfolio that included Showtime — departed and oversight of the cabler was given to Chris McCarthy. It’s worth noting that premium scripted fare has not been a focus for McCarthy, a rising star at the former Viacom. McCarthy oversees a suite of networks including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central and Paramount Network. (McCarthy’s lieutenant, Keith Cox, is the gatekeeper for all of Taylor Sheridan’s shows on linear and streaming.) During McCarthy’s tenure, he has largely taken Comedy Central and other networks out of the premium scripted space.

Showtime’s scripted roster includes the recently launched Let the Right One In and American Gigolo as well as Billions, The Chi, City on a Hill, The L Word, Yellowjackets and Your Honor, among others.

Kurtzman and Lumet, meanwhile, continue to have overall deals with CBS Studios and have multiple other shows in the works for both Paramount+ and Showtime, including the Star Trek franchise.

Alex O’Connor of Rex Orange County has reportedly been charged with six counts of sexual assault in the U.K., stemming from incidents that took place this past June.

According to The Sun, O’Connor pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London today (Oct. 10). Prosecutors accused him of assaulting a woman twice in the West End on June 1. The following day, he also allegedly assaulted the same woman in a taxi and then three more times in Notting Hill.

“Alex is shocked by the allegations which he denies and looks forward to clearing his name in court. He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings,” a representative for Alex O’Connor said to SPIN.

O’Connor was released on unconditional bail and his trial is scheduled to begin on Jan. 3, 2023.

The artist’s fourth studio album, WHO CARES?, was released in March.

Ukrainians sent a defiant message to Vladimir Putin today after Russia hit the country with nationwide missile strikes.

Social media networks were flooded with videos of resistance in the wake of the attacks, as people in bomb shelters and in the Kyiv subway network sung the national anthem and other patriotic anthems – even as bombs fell.

The footage came as Putin‘s military blitzed Ukraine with missile strikes this morning, hitting the capital Kyiv and several other cities and killing civilians as revenge for an explosion which crippled the Crimea Bridge on Saturday.

At least eight people were killed and 24 were injured in just one of the Kyiv strikes.

Summing up the mood in Ukraine, the country’s defence ministry tweeted: ‘So, russkies, you really think you can compensate for your impotence on the battlefield with missile strikes on peaceful cities? You just don’t get it do you – your terrorist strikes only make us stronger. We are coming after you.’

Inna Sovsun, a member of Ukraine’s parliament, shared a video on Monday morning from a Metro station in Kyiv showing a crowd of people sitting on the steps.

Posting the video to her Twitter account, she wrote: ‘Metro station in Kyiv where I am with my son now. Very crowded, lots of kids. People are calm, no panic.’

As the camera panned around, the video showed the crowd of people taking shelter stretched all the way down a long tunnel. The same crowd were later shown in a second clip singing together.

Footage from another shelter showed children gathered around tables covered in school work, also singing the Ukrainian national anthem.

The anthem is known by its name ‘The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not yet perished’, or by its shortened name: ‘Ukraine has not yet perished’.

From the video, it appeared a make-shift classroom had been set up in the shelter to allow the children to keep learning while being safe from Putin’s missiles.

In yet another clip from a Metro station, a huge crowd stretching all the way down a tunnel can be seen taking shelter. As with the first station and the children, the crowd is heard singing beautifully in the clip – in defiance of Putin’s attacks.

The missiles hit the capital at around 8am on Monday morning, a busy time for the city as people commute to work, and children head in to school.

Blasts were reported in the city’s Shevchenko district, a large area in the centre of Kyiv that includes the historic old town as well as several government offices, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Lesia Vasylenko, a member of Ukraine’s parliament, posted a photo on Twitter showing that at least one explosion occurred near the main building of the Kyiv National University in central Kyiv – tallying with the video from the young woman.

After the first early morning strikes in Kyiv, more loud explosions were heard later in an intensification of Russia’s attack that could spell a major escalation in the war.

At least 83 rockets were fired at Ukraine, the military said, half of which were shot down but the other half of which slammed into cities across the country. This number was increased from an earlier figure of 75.

‘The terrorist country, Russia, has carried out massive missile and air strikes on the territory of Ukraine, also using attack drones.

‘In the morning, the aggressor launched 75 missiles. 41 of them were shot down by our air defence,’ General Valeriy Zaluzhny said on social media.

Air raid sirens sounded in every region of Ukraine, except Russia-annexed Crimea. The sirens lasted for four straight hours.

President Zelensky said a mixture of rockets and suicide drones had attacked the cities of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine, northern Kharkiv and Sumy, central Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia, and even far-western Ternopil and Lviv.

Speaking on the streets of Kyiv even as the attacks continued, Zelensky said the Russians were targeting power stations and civilians aiming to ‘sow panic and chaos’. Russia ‘is trying to wipe us off the face of the earth’, he added, while vowing that such tactics would not succeed.

Adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said the strikes showed ‘the Kremlin’s terrorist inadequacy’ after a string of embarrassing battlefield defeats.

Oleksii Reznikov, the defence minister, said Ukraine’s courage would never be broken and ‘that the only thing they demolish is the future of [Russia] – a future of a globally despised rogue terrorist state.’

83 Russian missiles were launched at Ukraine this morning in combination with Iranian drones, striking power stations, water supplies and civilians across the country – killing eight and wounding 24 in Kyiv alone

Videos and pictures from the Ukrainian capital showed burning cars and bodies in the streets as officials said the rockets had hit close to a well-known memorial to a famous statesman, near a children’s play area in a park, and a pedestrian bridge. More footage showed an apartment block in Dnipro in flames.

Though Russia gave no immediate justification for the strikes, it is almost certainly intended as a display of might after a huge explosion crippled the Kerch Bridge.

Putin called the explosion on the huge bridge connecting Russia to its annexed territory of Crimea a ‘terrorist act’ masterminded by Ukrainian special services.

The Russian despot is due to meet with his security cabinet today to plot his revenge amid demands from hardliners within the Russian elite that he declare full war and resort to nuclear weapons.

Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, denied on Sunday that the atomic option was on the table – but having already annexed occupied regions of Ukraine and mustered hundreds of thousands of men into the army, Putin is running out of options for how to escalate the war further. He has shown no sign of backing down.

Journalists in the center of Dnipro city saw the bodies of multiple people killed at an industrial site on the city’s outskirts. Windows in the area had been blown out and glass littered the street.

Ukrainian media also reported explosions in a number of other locations, including the western city of Lviv that has been a refuge for many people fleeing the fighting in the east, as well as Kharkiv, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr and Kropyvnytskyi.

Kharkiv was hit three times, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. The strikes knocked out the electricity and water supply. Energy infrastructure was also hit in Lviv, Regional Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said.

The multiple strikes came a few hours before Russian President Vladimir Putin was due to hold a meeting with his security council, as Moscow’s war in Ukraine approaches its eight-month milestone.

The Kremlin is reeling from humiliating battlefield setbacks in areas it is trying to annex amid a Ukrainian counteroffensive in recent weeks.

A day earlier, Putin had called the attack on the Kerch Bridge to Crimea a terrorist act carried out by Ukrainian special services. In a meeting Sunday with the chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Putin said ‘there’s no doubt it was a terrorist act directed at the destruction of critically important civilian infrastructure.’

LVIV: Smoke rises over the city in far-western Ukraine that has been largely spared the worst effects of the war after Putin unleashed a barrage of strikes in revenge for the Crimea bridge being hit

The Kerch Bridge is important to Russia strategically, as a military supply line to its forces in Ukraine, and symbolically, as an emblem of its claims on Crimea.

No one has claimed responsibility for damaging the 12-mile-long bridge, the longest in Europe.

Amid the onslaught, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on his Telegram account that Russia is ‘trying to destroy us and wipe us off the face of the earth.’

‘Please do not leave (bomb) shelters,’ he wrote. ‘Let’s hold on and be strong.’

Following the strikes on Kyiv, several residents were seen on the streets with blood on their clothes and hands. A young man wearing a blue jacket sat on the ground as a medic wrapped a bandage around his head.

A woman with bandages wrapped around her head had blood all over the front of her blouse. Several cars were also damaged or completely destroyed.

New York Comic Con was buzzing with

The Reboot series continues to tell a fascinating, very funny, and sometimes even dramatic story. It’s a story about the real life of actors who are trying to reboot their relationships and solve their problems with the help of the show. It would seem that this show is comedic and everything is quite predictable. But no! The creators of the show always go a step further. They decided to show the audience not only scenes where there are only jokes and but also those that reveal the characters and their inner experiences. In simple terms, they are trying to show us what are they doing in the “shadows” while no one is watching. Fascinating, isn’t it?

SOME POSITIVE VIBES OR NOT…

After Hannah’s loud statement in the last episode, it seems that the relationship between father and daughter has noticeably improved. They smile all the time and communicate very nicely. Hannah praises Gordon for making significant changes to the script (WOW!). But Gordon spoils this wonderful moment. Really?! Reed tries to reach out to Gordon. He wants to discuss the script and make a couple of edits but Gordon just runs away. He’s playing a little trick with a pen – “Wait. I’ll just grab a pen and come back…” Naturally, he doesn’t come back.

Courtesy of Hulu

Hannah is trying to prove to her father that he can’t run away all the time. It is necessary to listen to their experiences and try to help. Gordon explains to her that this is not how it works in this area. And the actors are like bottomless pits of need, constantly whining and dissatisfied with something. Zack suddenly appears and says he has a little problem. Moreover, he really hopes he’ll get some help. Of course, Hannah wants to help solve this little issue. (she’ll regret it later). What is hiding in the shadows of his problems?

Zack tells a very nice story about how he can’t reach an agreement with his ex-girlfriend about the custody of his dog. Hannah listens carefully to Zaсk and Gordon, as always, escapes. But Hannah doesn’t give up… She agrees that he was right about the actors and it is simply impossible to please everyone. She suggests dinner at a restaurant (the one that Gordon loves so much) in order to discuss it all. To share experiences, so to speak. After all, Gordon has been in this business longer than she has. Of course, he agrees. However this is not just a dinner, but a little ploy from Hannah (that’s a twist!).

WHAT AN EVENING OF REVELATIONS!

Gordon comes to the restaurant and hopes for a pleasant evening in the company of his daughter. But instead he sees Reed. They realize that Hannah arranges this on purpose so that they could finally talk. And even pre-orders them drinks (how thoughtful!). It seems that the evening has already gone wrong. But what is each of them hiding in the “shadows” of their problems? After drinking enough cocktails, they finally begin to open up to each other (really?!). Gordon admits that Reed has a unique acting gift, but for some reason does not use it. He can make people laugh out loud. But instead, he is constantly trying to complicate everything and is always unhappy.

Reed is amazed by such words and here he also decides to tell the truth about Gordon, which he has been hiding for a long time. He says that he has always considered Gordon to be very smart, quick and that he is right person to be the showrunner. But that’s why this fact upsets him even more. Instead of writing a really brilliant script, Gordon squanders his talent on second-rate jokes. But he really can do more and always could.

The evening really takes an unexpected turn! Both have fun and come home together (quite tipsy). And then Gordon notices on the walk of fame the Hollywood star of his old enemy Chuck Lorre who stole all the airtime and attention from him in the past (this is interesting!). Gordon decides to take revenge on his old enemy – he tries to pee on that star. But, unfortunately, he does not succeed. Then Reed offers him help in this “difficult matter” but the police arrest him.

WHAT THEY DO IN THE “SHADOWS”?

While Reed and Gordon are having an evening of conversations, Hannah and Zack go to his ex-girlfriend. They are going to have a very serious conversation… (yeah, right!) Of course, the issue of their dog needs to be resolved. But as soon as he crosses the threshold of her house, they start arguing and can’t stop. Hannah decides to help solve this problem (I wish she hadn’t done that!). Oddly enough, they quickly come to an agreement. Even more, Hannah agrees to look after the dog while Zach is at rehearsals. But when she sees a “cute dog”, she really regrets that she agreed to this.

The storylines of all the characters are developing very rapidly. But things are even more interesting for Bree and Clay. They are involved in their mini-adventure. Is something really interesting? Bree is in search of herself, so she goes to a party at an unfamiliar place with people she doesn’t know (sounds intimidating!). Clay warns Bree that she has to be careful with her “new friends”. But everything is not going according to plan. Bree calls Clay and says she’s high and on mushrooms.

Of course, Clay can’t leave her like this. He’s trying to figure out where she is. Thank God she has Siri on her phone. Clay barely manages to get Bree into the car and calm her down. He is late for an important meeting and asks Bree to stay in the car and wait for him (after all, this is a dangerous area!). But Bree can’t sit still and breaks into an AA meeting. It turns out that Clay has not been drinking for 30 days (this is really an achievement!).

IS THAT ALL?

The next day, everyone returns to the studio, but something has changed… The relationship between Bree and Clay has warmed up noticeably and has definitely moved to a new level. They seem to have switched places – Clay is sober and leading a healthy lifestyle (at least, he is trying!), and Bree goes full “breaking bad”. Both admit that they have changed and definitely for the better. And maybe it could have worked out (in a romantic way) for them 15 years ago – if they had both been high, then for sure!

Courtesy of Hulu

Gordon and Hannah are also making great progress in their relationship. She’s trying to apologize for setting up this meeting at the restaurant. But Gordon is even grateful to her for what she did. Otherwise, neither he nor Reed would have found out what they had been hiding all this time. But he adds that they promised the policeman could participate in the show. Hannah says she won’t ask anything. But she also tells Gordon that he was right about getting involved in actors’ lives – Hannah can’t solve all their problems.

Gordon says that he and Hannah can spend time at his favorite restaurant like any daughter and father. It seems that there really is progress in their relationship. And, of course, the creators of the show decide to end the series on a very cheerful note. One of the studio employees approaches Hannah and says that Zach said she could help solve his problem (poor thing!). Naturally, Hannah can’t refuse him and asks him to go to her office. But the office is occupied by a cute dog (not cute at all!), which she is now looking after…

IT’S A SHOW ABOUT PEOPLE!

In this episode the creators of the project do not just show us a funny story, but reveal in detail each of the characters of this show. They ask a very important question at the very beginning of the series – What we do in the “shadows”? And the answer to this question is revealed throughout the episode.

Courtesy of Hulu

Each of the characters reveals what they have been hiding for so long and could not talk about it in any way. But this series becomes their starting point towards a new life. As one of the heroes said, they were definitely given a second chance to reboot their own lives, and they must not miss it.

And with each episode, the creators of the show convince us that these heroes deserve their place in the sun. After all, each of them made a mistake, fell, but got up again and walked. No doubt, they deserve a second chance like everyone else. And what awaits them next on the way to this complete reboot? We’ll see in the next episode.

Releasing on October 14th, TILL recounts the true story of Mamie Till-Mobley’s search for justice for the lynching of her 14 year old son, Emmett Till. She became an educator and activist in the Civil Rights Movement after her son’s death in 1955. He was visiting cousins in Money, Mississippi. He whistled at a white woman (Carolyn Bryant) which is what led to his death at the hands of a white supremacist.

Statement from Director Chinonye Chukwu

“When I was approached to write and direct a story about Emmett Till, I found myself drawn to a singular figure at the center of his orbit. I saw an opportunity to… approach the narrative through another lens – from the maternal point of view of Mamie Till-Mobley. Had it not been for Mamie, her son’s memory would have evaporated into thin air. She was the catalyst for a modern day civil rights movement. I felt compelled to champion Mamie’s legacy and center her in the spotlight where she rightfully belongs.

Mamie’s Humanity

Mamie’s untold story is one of resilience and courage in the face of adversity and unspeakable devastation. The opportunity to focus the film on Mamie, a multi-faceted Black woman… was a tall order I accepted with deep respect and responsibility. On the daily, Mamie combatted racism, sexism, and misogyny, which was exponentially heightened in the wake of Emmett’s murder. Mamie did not cower… [she] helped me to understand and shape my own similar journey in activism. And as a filmmaker, showing Mamie in all her complex humanity was of utmost importance.”

“… At its core, TILL is a love story.”

Courtesy of Orion Pictures

“The crux of this story is not about the traumatic, physical violence inflicted upon Emmett – which is why I refused to depict such brutality in the film – but it is about Mamie’s remarkable journey in the aftermath. She is grounded by the love for her child, for at its core, TILL is a love story. Amidst the inherent pain and heartbreak, it was critical for me to ground their affection throughout the film.”

Tone and Theme throughout “TILL”

“The cinematic language and tone of TILL was deeply rooted in the balance between loss in the absence of love; the inconsolable grief in the absence of joy; and the embrace of Black life alongside the heart wrenching loss of a child. I hope viewers will empathize with the humanities on screen and see our present cultural and political realities within this film. And I hope that Mamie’s story helps us all to realize the power within ourselves to continue to fight for the change we want to see in the world, just as she did.”

The sequel to Marvel’s Black Panther (2018), after a four year break between movies, will release globally on November 11th. Marvel dropped the first trailer at San Diego Comic-Con in July, where the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, announced that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the final feature film in MCU’s Phase 4. This November release takes the place of The Marvels, which will release in July 2023.

Familiar Faces, New Nemeses, & Anticipated Allies

Ryan Coogler, director of the first movie, is bringing Marvel’s Black Panther to our screens once again. Joining him are returning cast members Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Florence Kusumba, and Martin Freeman, reprising their roles.

While the nation of Wakanda is mourning the loss of their king—after the tragic loss of actor Chadwick Boseman in August 2020–they will face new conflicts and gain allies. Dominique Thorne will be entering the MCU as RiRi Williams, also known as Ironheart, and Tenoch Huerta will be bringing Namor the Submariner to life. Joining Namor as a warrior from the same civilization, Alex Livinalli will be portraying the character of Attuma.

“Intertwined History”: Wakanda & Atlantis

Production Weekly (as referenced on CBR) reveals some of the plot details: “Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilizations with advanced technology and increased militaristic abilities that decided to separate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a way, out of fear… And yet their fears escalate even further when these two once-hidden nations clash with each other. Wakanda and Atlantis have a shockingly intertwined history. Wakanda is the only county in the world with access to vibranium. However, rumors of its power spread throughout the world, and Namor’s human father was sent searching for this rare material in Antartica…”

In a departure from Namor’s Atlantean roots from the comics, this film chose to have him originate from the underwater city of Tlālōcān (Talokan) as depicted in earlier Teotihuacan culture. His character has significant influence from the Aztec and Mayan cultures for a few reasons: Aztecs ruled Central America and Mayans bordered the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean, and they won’t confuse Namor with the DCEU character of “Aquaman.” The Tlālōcān influence on Namor’s character and origin makes sense geographically and culturally.

Marvel’s Future

While we will not find out who will take up the mantle of Black Panther until the film releases in November, the trailer as well as the comics suggest that Shuri will become the new Black Panther. Several new characters will be make their debuts, further setting up plots for future MCU productions.

The sequel to Marvel’s Black Panther (2018), after a

Deadpool co-star T.J. Miller has said he will never work with Ryan Reynolds again because of the actor’s alleged cruel behavior while in character on production. The actor announced his absence from Deadpool 3 in a new interview for the Adam Corolla Show podcast because of a bizarre incident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2.

Can I see myself working with him again? Miller, who played Deadpool’s best pal, Weasel, said, “No, I would not work with him again.”

Host Adam Corolla inquired as to whether or not Miller, 41, and Reynolds, 45, stayed friendly after starring in the 2016 hit and its 2018 sequel, and the comic stated that the first film’s popularity “affected” his former co-star.

Miller said, “I got along with Ryan a lot better on the original ‘Deadpool’ because he wasn’t a great, huge movie star.” Despite this, Miller said he still admired Reynolds as a comedian.

The former Silicon Valley star continued by saying that Reynolds is “sort of an insecure person” and “it’s weird that he hates me” before explaining the tense scene that supposedly occurred on set.

Let’s do one more take, he urged, and it was an extraordinary moment for Deadpool. Then, in character, he was extremely cruel to me, treating me like I was Weasel. After that, he said, “You know what’s amazing about you, Weasel?” Miller supposedly remarked, “You’re not the star, but you do just enough exposition so that it’s entertaining, and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.”

He subsequently said, “It was not a nice experience for me,” and he recalled that the team didn’t know how to react.

Miller made it obvious he didn’t plan to return to the franchise alone, but the actor gave the impression that he wasn’t even asked to return.

Life imitates art in a new promotional deal between “Ted Lasso” and dating app Bumble.

Bumble, the women-focused dating and social networking app, announced a pact with Apple TV+’s hit comedy to let members experience Bantr, the fictitious dating app featured on “Ted Lasso.” Launching this Thursday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. local time, a weekly “Bantr Live” experience will be available free in Bumble’s Date Mode, letting two users connect via chat without seeing the other person’s photos — similar to the Bantr app in “Ted Lasso.”

In “Ted Lasso,” Bantr requires users to chat without seeing any pictures of the other person to connect over the written word. That drives a key plot point in Season 2, when Rebecca Welton (owner of the AFC Richmond soccer club) makes a mysterious love connection on Bantr.

On Bumble, the “Ted Lasso”-branded experience within the Bumble app will mimic the Bantr format by “putting personality first and connecting people in a fun, pressure-free way,” according to Bumble. The Bantr Live experience will let two users, randomly paired together, DM for three minutes. At that point, each person will be asked if they would like to continue the conversation. If both Bumblers choose to match, their chat will live in their Date Mode queue and their profiles will then be available to view.

Bantr Live will be available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia through the end of 2022. Bumble members can RSVP to each weekly event and will be reminded in the app when it’s about to go live. Additionally, Bumble users will be able to redeem a free two-month subscription to Apple TV+.

“As huge fans of ‘Ted Lasso,’ we were so excited to bring the Bantr Live experience to our community,” said Olivia Yu, Global VP of Partnerships. “Bantr Live enables our community to connect with someone unexpected and learn more about a person before seeing them. We look forward to people on Bumble having fun with Bantr Live and connecting and dating in a new and exciting way.”

In another recent “Ted Lasso” promotional tie-up, EA Sports’ “FIFA 23” added AFC Richmond as a playable team in an update to the popular soccer video game.

Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” has won 11 Emmys, including back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022 for comedy series, actor in a comedy series (Jason Sudeikis) and supporting actor in a comedy series (Brett Goldstein). Apple has ordered a third season of the show.

Jennifer Garner speaking about the tax credit, said, “As an actor, producer and mother, it’s impossible to overstate what shooting locally means to me and other families in this industry. I’ve been lucky to work with some of the greatest crew members of my career here in California, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with some of my home team friends on this project.”

Oscar-winners Christian Bale and Robert De Niro are among the star-studded list of actors who dove deep into their roles in David O. Russell’s latest feature, “Amsterdam.”

Written and directed by Russell, “Amsterdam,” is set in the ‘30s and follows close friends Dr. Burt Berendsen (Christian Bale), attorney Harold Woodman (John David Washington) and artist Valerie Voze (Margot Robbie) who formed a close bond during wartime in Amsterdam. Years later, they all find themselves at the centre of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history.

For Bale, this is the third collaboration with the director – he won an Oscar for his performance in Russell’s 2010 feature “The Fighter” and then starred in 2013’s “American Hustle.”

They began the process at a diner in Santa Monica and kept meeting up to find the right character for the method actor in a story that they felt had to have a great friendship at the heart of it.

Bale, 48, plays an injured World War 1 veteran who returns to New York and devotes his life as a doctor to helping other veterans.

Bale also produced the film and saw more of the editing process than he had ever had access to in his life. He said it was satisfying seeing something from it’s inception and watching Russell gradually build Burt’s story.

“David and I were putting this together for six years and we both have a real love for underdogs and outsiders. We just wanted to create a character that we wanted to hang out with, that we wanted to watch and that we were in awe of in terms of somebody who should have been crushed by what life has thrown at him, but actually has become more joyous, more optimistic, because he refuses to resort to the alternative of cynicism and going numb,” Bale said in a virtual interview with the Star.

The film stars Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldana, Mike Myers, Matthias Schoenaerts, Rami Malek, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant and Andrea Riseborough. Bale said it was “absolutely incredible that we got a wealth of such talented actors who came and joined us for this film; we were blessed.”

He also said that working with Robert De Niro was “a dream come true.” De Niro, is known for being extremely meticulous when constructing characters and always striving to do something he’s never done before.

When asked what that looked like for this role, De Niro said in a joint virtual interview with Bale, “I just tried my best with the time that I had. David was trying to get me to get involved in it and I wanted to, of course, anything that he did, I’d want to be involved with, but I wasn’t sure and finally he made me aware of who this character was, Smedley Butler and so slowly, things came together.”

De Niro’s General Gil Dillenbeck was inspired by Butler, whose actions helped change the course of history.

“I was not aware that there was this type of person ever, especially at that time in American history. I did as much research on him as I could, watched videos, read material on him, his speeches and stories about him,” he said.

The 79-year-old actor earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of an explosive family patriarch in Russell’s 2012 film “Silver Linings Playbook” and returned to work with the director in “American Hustle” and 2015’s “Joy.”

Russell has seen several actors return to collaborate with him on multiple projects — something De Niro and Bale chalk up to a uniqueness in his projects.

“With David, every time that you work with him, you know it’s going to be a special film. Special things will happen that will be spontaneous. Or maybe not, but they’re great, in the planning, and so on. So that’s an easy one to say, ‘Look, I’ll be part of this. I’ll make my best effort to be a part of this film,’” De Niro said of working with the five-time Oscar-nominee.

Bale chimed in: “All great directors have a very unique way of working; what makes them great directors is that they’ve got a unique and singular vision. And David, oh, man, totally different the way he works than anybody else. And I love it. As Bob was saying, there’s kind of a beautiful chaos about the way he works, and it creates a real sense of life on film.”

The Welsh-born English actor recounted filming during the pandemic. “In the first two days, David was calling out to me from another room and that’s not how David works,” he laughed. “He’s usually under the chair as you’re working or he’s hiding under the tablecloth or he’s right behind the cameraman. He’s feeding your lines and he’s running around trying to get out of our shot, but he’s very present, always.”

“We did the first two days and David always had this hat on, his mask and a visor as well … the whole time all I saw was his eyes. But on the first day I said, ‘David, dude, this ain’t you! You can’t be out in another room’ … then he was like, ‘Alright, yeah.’ Then he came back, curled up on the floor and then I felt like, ‘Alright, here we go. This is the David that we all love to work with.’”

Great American Family is back with even more for its original Christmas movie lineup for the holidays.

With autumn upon us, we’re even closer to the holiday season and the channel, Great American Family, is getting ready to kick off its annual event titled “Great American Christmas”, which features original Christmas movies premiering every weekend. In addition to this, Christmas films will be on the air, “24/7 throughout the end of the year.” In its second year, it has increased by 50%.

Every weekend will feature a new film, and there look to be numerous choices and a variety of stories to fit every person’s taste. All new film premieres will air at 8 p.m. ET.

First up, on October 22, there’s Destined at Christmas. The characters of Kim and Theo meet with a spark during Black Friday shopping, but after they get separated following a power outage, it’ll take, “a little Christmas magic and destiny to bring them back together.” Many can relate to the idea of meeting someone amazing by happenstance and losing touch with them, so this film sure looks to be one to garner attention for its relatable quality.

There’s Catering Christmas on October 29 where the character of Molly Frost gets a gig that can help her struggling catering career by working for the annual Christmas Gala dinner for the Harrison Foundation. Frost soon develops feelings for Carson, the nephew of Jean Harrison, director of the Harrison Foundation, who is assigned in making sure all goes well with the dinner, leading to a more complicated situation. Any film when things get complicated is always one to grab one’s attention.

A Royal Christmas on Ice on November 5 has a prince coming to the United States and falling for a former Olympic ice skater and Love At the Christmas Contest on November 6 has a woman reluctant to celebrate the holidays after losing her mother and soon looking to the annual tree decorating contest to honor her memory, but things get tricky when her high school sweetheart and his daughter are also in the contest. From the inclusion of an athletic woman to seeing how much has changed with the passage of time since high school, both films look to have storylines that warm the heart.

A Merry Christmas Wish on November 12 has an advertising executive from NYC selling her hometown family farm which soon becomes the site for the annual Winter Wonderland in the town, an event she’s running with a childhood friend. This is a film that can relate to anyone who returns home after being born and raised in a small town and moving away to the big city.

My Best Friend’s Christmas on November 13 features a woman who has her best friend masquerade as her fake boyfriend after her former partner has moved on and Christmas at Pine Valley on November 19 features a woman who must convince a magazine reporter profiling her farm and home goods store that it is a family-run business as opposed to only run by her and family friends. Movies, where things are presented to not be as they really are, are relatable and a good option for captivating audiences.

November 20 has My Favorite Christmas Tree which has the character of Kyla and her sister going to the town of Conifer to help figure out her family history whereas November 25 has Christmas at the Drive-In, which has a property lawyer fighting to keep the local Drive In Theater open for the holidays, all while finding romance with the person trying to sell the theater.

I’m Glad It’s Christmas on November 26 has an aspiring Broadway singer choose between her professional dreams and love. The film’s cast includes Jessica Lowndes, Paul Greene, and the legendary Gladys Knight.

Candace Cameron Brue Presents A Christmas…Present on November 27 follows Maggie and Eric, who, “are busy parents of teenagers who embark on a trip to the home of Maggie’s widowed brother to celebrate Christmas.”

Christmas on Candy Cane Lane on December 3 is a comedy/mystery following Ivy, who, “struggles with the long shadow cast by her late mother, Muriel, the darling of Icicle Falls; head of the Candy Cane Lane Lights Extravaganza, owner of The Christmas Haus, and a former TV star known adoringly as the “’Christmas Maven.’” Each film shows how different holiday celebrations can be with different families, towns, and situations.

B&B Merry on December 4 has a luxury travel blogger who covers a small town learn all experiences can be five-star, “when shared with kindred spirits,” while Big Box Christmas on December 9 has two former partners stuck together after being stranded in a superstore before Christmas with no cell service.

A Prince for the Holidays on December 10 has an aspiring musician’s joke about dating a prince going too far and her having a friend impersonate the prince, while unbeknownst to her, he has a royal secret. Different circumstances can easily change how one can view a particular holiday season, as these films show.

December 11 has A Belgian Chocolate Christmas, which has a photographer replacing her friend’s spot at a Belgian culinary school but complications arise as with this different identity, validity is challenged when she falls for the chocolatier who leads the class.

A Brush with Christmas Romance on December 17 has a struggling artist toss away an art piece that is soon discovered and submitted to the Christmas art festival, thus beginning a search from a visiting artist to find who painted the piece.

The holiday movies wrap up with The Art of Christmas on December 18, where a new career choice in education for an artist leads to her discovering a new positive sense of purpose. As these films showcase, some things are meant to happen for a reason.

With so many movies, there looks to be plenty for audiences to enjoy, all with films that are positive for the entire family.

The news has been unveiled as the UK’s Wildscreen Festival gets underway, the respected natural history TV festival, and Reed is due to speak on a panel later today.

Reed’s past credits include Jago – A Life Underwater and Rise of the Warrior Apes and he founded Underdog in 2015.

BBC Studios Natural History Unit (NHU) Head Jonny Keeling said: “Character and emotional storytelling are at the heart of filmmaking both at the NHU and Underdog Films, so we look forward to developing a number of original, ambitious and compelling natural history features.”

Missing Link is now on Netflix –

Don’t expect to have Ricky Gervais back as host at the Golden Globes. The Office creator has expressed his lack of interest in returning to emcee the award show.

After a fan shared a video of Gervais hosting the Hollywood ceremony in 2020 for the fifth time, the Twitter user asked to retweet the clip “if you wish [Gervais] would host the Golden Globes again in 2023.”

“F*** that,” Gervais quote retweeted the post adding a laughing emoji after.

His comment comes as the Hollywood Foreign Press will return to televise their event in 2023 after the 2022 ceremony was reduced to a press release following backlash for their lack of diversity. As the group makes changes, they recently signed a one-year deal with their long-term partners at NBC to broadcast the award show.

“We recognize the HFPA’s commitment to ongoing change and look forward to welcoming back the Golden Globes to NBC for its landmark 80th Anniversary in January 2023,” said Frances Berwick, Chairman of Entertainment Networks at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

Meanwhile, in a 2021 interview, Gervais talked about his approach to hosting these types of events and knowing who his audience is.

“Do I pander to the 200 billionaires in the room or the 200 million people at home sitting in their [underwear] drinking beer who aren’t winning awards, who aren’t billionaires?” he told The Guardian. “It’s a no-brainer for a comedian. I’m a jester. I play to the other peasants in the mud. I wasn’t going in terrible. Think of the things I could have said… Think of the f***ing terrible things I could have joked about. It’s off the charts — It’s. Off. The. Charts — the terrible things I could say.”

Nominations for the 2023 Golden Globes will be announced on December 12 and the award show will take place on January 10.

Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” (EMI) hit dominates the U.K.’s chart for a second week.

The viral track racks up 6.6 million streams during the latest chart cycle, the Official Charts Company reports, to complete another victory lap.

“Unholy” finishes “comfortably ahead” of David Guetta & Bebe Rexha’s former leader “I’m Good (Blue)” (via Parlophone), which had led the midweek chart before finishing in second place.

The highest new debut on the Official U.K. Singles Chart belongs to Ed Sheeran with “Celestial” (Asylum), new at No. 6, for the Englishman’s 40th top 10 and 57th top 40 appearance.

“Celestial,” which is synced to the forthcoming Pokémon games “Scarlet” and “Violet,” is “by far” the most-bought track of the week, the OCC reports. Sheeran also appears further down the list with Burna Boy on “For My Hand” (Atlantic), which lifts 20-19, a new high.

Also making a move in the top 10 is Beyonce’s “Cuff It” (Columbia/Parkwood Ent), from the superstar U.S. singer’s best-selling Renaissance album. “Cuff It” rises 14-10 for a new peak and Knowles’ 21st U.K. top 10 single.

Meanwhile, Lizzo’s “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” (via Atlantic) cracks the top 20 for the first time, the Detroit-born artist’s fourth top 20 single; it’s up 21-20.

Nigerian artist Rema (real name Divine Ikubor) is on the rise with “Calm Down” (Mavin), up 25-21 for a new peak; while singer and social media star Cian Ducrot climbs with “All For You” (Polydor), up 29-23, a new high.

Close behind is KSI, with “Summer Is Over” (Atlantic) bowing at No. 24. It’s the British singer, rapper and YouTuber’s 17th U.K. top 40 single.

Finally, alternative rock favorites Arctic Monkeys bag a 17th U.K. top 40 with “Body Paint” (Domino Recordings), new at No. 26. It’s lifted from the Sheffield indie act’s seventh and latest album, The Car, due out Oct. 21.

One of the most challenging obstacles in finding love is that day when you meet your intended’s parents. But for one young lover, meeting the parents takes on a whole other meaning in writer-director Conscian Morgan’s horror short, NZU.

Today is the day that the young Hamish (Shaun Yusuf), a civil servant by trade, is going to meet his finance Renna’s (Rebecca Layoo) Nigerian parents. After a very brief and cordial introduction to Renna’s father, Dr. Oba (Joseph Mydell), Hamish means well but instantly makes a few cultural missteps and faux pas during casual conversation. For example, “When did you leave your country…?”

“With the spirits on the move, Hamish sees images from his past… his ancestral past.”

Unimpressed and suspicious, Dr. Oba invites Hamish and Renna to participate in a spirit-cleaning ceremony, where Hamish is handed a mirror. With the spirits on the move, Hamish sees images from his past… his ancestral past.

Filmmaker Conscian Morgan tells a dark and haunting horror tale that addresses the racial divide between blacks and whites. As a genre offering, the short film presents many horrific images but never goes for terror, as that is not its message. Instead, NZU addresses the conversation regarding justice for the crimes of slavery. Morgan’s message questions whether we can truly move forward in reconciliation unless the sins of the past are confronted.

NZU effectively uses horror to make its point. More accurately, it poses a serious question. Now my only question is, where should we go from here?

A traumatic emergency room experience at a South Okanagan hospital reached the floor of the BC Legislature, resulting in a call for the health minister to step down.

A mother, referred to as Sara, suffered a traumatic miscarriage at the Penticton Regional Hospital. She shared her story with another media outlet, which Shirley Bond, B.C.’s critic for health and MLA for Prince George-Valemont, referenced during the question period.

Bond called it a “horrific example and proof that the healthcare system in this province has collapsed.”

“A mother in her second trimester went to the Penticton regional hospital ER in excruciating pain. She was left alone for an hour and a half before being told to use the washroom where she miscarried her son,” said Bond during the question period.

“Sara said, this is Sara’s voice, not mine. ‘I went in there and gave birth to my son all by myself, screaming for help. I was just standing there in the bathroom by the wheelchair, and we had no help.’”

Bond went on to say that even once Sara was placed in a room, she was left alone for hours.

“She waited again alone, traumatized and in shock,” said Bond.

While speaking, Bond stressed that this issue is not about blaming nurses or doctors.

“They are overwhelmed, they are demoralized, they are overloaded. This starts at the top and it starts with a minister who constantly fails. To acknowledge the crisis that we have in our province and fails to accept responsibility for the outcomes,” said Bond.

“We have a healthcare system that has collapsed. British Columbians like Sara and countless other ones deserve better, and the minister knows it.”

She is calling for immediate change and for the minister to step down.

“Something has to change, it is simply not acceptable,” said Bond.

“I am asking the minister today to acknowledge not only Sara’s pain but the situation that exists in this province. It is time he did the right thing. Something must change. It starts at the top.”

B.C.’s Health Minister Adrian Dix responded to Bond during question period.

“Every time this occurs, we need to review and make the system better, to respond better, to hear those voices,” said Dix during question period.

“That’s the reason why we have independent reviews of these processes to ensure that people get a sense of agency and voice and those reviews are initiated by people in cases exactly like this.”

Meanwhile, Global News reached out to Interior Health for more information and confirmation on whether there is an investigation into this incident and what that process will look like.

“Interior Health and our staff and physicians recognize that the loss of a child at any point in a pregnancy is traumatic and we are very sorry for this patient’s experience. Our thoughts are with her and her family during this difficult time,” said Interior Health in a statement.

“We can confirm that our Patient Care Quality Office (PCQO) is looking into the concerns she has raised to ensure they are reviewed thoroughly.”

According to Interior Health, the PCQO will gather information about an individual’s concerns and respond to them directly.

“Reviews by the PCQO will help inform improvements where appropriate,” said Interior Health.

Interior Health added that the PCQO is committed to providing a response to clients within 40 business days however complex cases like Sara’s may take longer.

Just two weeks after Christine Brown told her fellow wives that she was leaving Kody Brown, the entire family got together to celebrate Ysabel Brown’s graduation on the Oct. 9 episode of Sister Wives. Despite all the struggles happening within the family, everyone was able to enjoy the celebration. However, Kody admittedly still had the situation weighing on his mind as he tried to be present for his daughter. “My life is sort of in limbo because Christine’s leaving and I don’t really know what that looks like,” he said. “I’ve been sort of in the anger phase of divorce and I’ve not been addressing it well.”

After kicking Kody out of her house, Christine decided that she was going to move to Utah with their daughter, Truely, in just a few short months. Kody was not handling it well. “I cannot get out of this cloud of sadness and it’s because the nuance of a breakup,” Kody explained. “I don’t know what this is going to lead to. I don’t know what else is going to go on.”

In addition to his issues with Christine, Kody was also feeling distant from some of his other children due to the COVID-19 pandemic (the episode was filmed in June 2021). “I’m not in a good place with everybody,” Kody admitted. “It’s not that I’m trying to be angry or hold them accountable in this moment or anything like that. I don’t feel like I’ve gotten the respect that I should have. I’m here and I’m in a funk. It’s kind of this loneliness combined with a bitterness with the entire family.”

Kody was happy to see how well things went at Ysabel’s graduation party, but at the end of the day, it also reminded him that the family will never have that again once Christine leaves. “i’m living in a delusional world where I’m wishing that Christine wouldn’t leave,” he revealed. “I was wishing Ysabel would go to school here and we’d be able to maintain some quasi-family relationship. I am struggling with a state of regret and frustration. It’s a weird thing to be getting left. It’s made me question plural marriage and question my faith and religion. The message we had to the world about functional polygamy seems so dysfunctional now.”

Meanwhile, some of Kody and Christine’s older children reacted to their split, and admitted that they weren’t upset about the breakup. “If I’m honest, I saw it coming,” Ysabel shared. “Of course I’m sad about it, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out. I’m happy my mom will be able to find somebody who she’s really, really, really happy with.” Mykelti Brown added, “I was relieved when I heard my mom was leaving my dad. They’re not happy. They’re not in love.”

Kody and Christine publicly announced their split in November 2021. The situation will continue to be documented on Sister Wives, which airs Sundays at 10:00 p.m. on TLC.

Twitter took down one of Kanye “Ye” West’s tweets for violating its rules, the same day Meta confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that his Instagram account has been restricted for violating the platform’s policies.

In a tweet on Saturday night, West wrote that he was going to go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.”

“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE,” he wrote. “The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”

After an hour of being up and tens of thousands of engagements, the tweet no longer appears on the rapper’s Twitter. In its place, there’s a notice from Twitter that reads, “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules.”

West returned to Twitter on Friday after a lengthy hiatus, where he almost immediately called out Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, saying, “How you gone kick me off instagram.” He was quickly welcomed back to Twitter by Elon Musk, who confirmed his plans to buy Twitter. “Welcome back to Twitter, my friend,” Musk replied to West’s tweet about Zuckerberg.

The rapper’s Instagram account was restricted after he posted an exchange allegedly between him and Diddy, in which users criticized West for using language that seemed anti-Semitic. The post has since been deleted.

West’s first Twitter post since 2020 came on Oct. 7, in which he posted a photo in a warehouse of a black cap that reads “2024.”

He also posted questions, like, “Who you think created cancel culture?” as well as tweets supporting Iranian youth. He wrote, “Iranian youth are leading a revolution against 44 years of dictatorship. The world needs to support them and honor their courage.”

SPOILER ALERT: This video contains details & exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the seventh episode of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which dropped on October 6. A new episode of Inside the Ring will debut every week of Season 1 of Rings of Power, which concludes on October 13. Watch past episodes of Inside the Ring here.

“It’s an epic failure for Elrond, because what he wants so much is to bring the two peoples together, bring this relationship together, and work on something together,” says The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s Robert Aramavo of the dramatic parting that occurs between the elf emissary and the dwarf crown prince in the penultimate episode of the first season of Amazon’s Prime Video’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing.

“And when I am ejected, and failed, it is devastating for him,” the actor adds in certain understatement as co-star Owain Arthur looks on.

The duo were speaking of the events of Rings of Power’s “The Eye” episode on Deadline’s Inside the Ring, the Rings of Power after show – as you can see in the video above.

Heading towards next week’s fiery Season 1 finale, the Charlotte Brandstrom helmed “The Eye,” which was written by Jason Cahill, is full of reckonings and a salient awakenings on many different levels for Tolkien fans old and new.

The triumph of Adar and the Orcs in what they are now calling Mordor sees warriors fall and families torn apart, both on the battlefields of what was once the Southland, and in the caverns of the Dwarf kingdom of Kazad-Dum. At the same time, in a frantic effort to save the Elves, crown prince Durin (Arthur) and his old friend Elrond search for more deposits of the fabled mithril, only to be shut down by an enraged Dwarf King (Peter Mullan)

Back in the ash sky filled former Southlands, the Numenorian Queen Regent (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) suffers a blinding blow, a father faces the imaginable and an elf warrior and a human boy forge a bond in their fight against evil.

With Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur (stay for more hijinks at the end between the two) Cynthia Addai-Robinson and director Brandstrom we are also joined in today’s Inside the Ring by Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Charlie Vickers (Halbrand), Tyroe Muhafidin (Theo), Maxim Baldry (Isildur), and Trystan Gravelle (Pharazon). Back again too is always dynamic composer Bear McCreary – as you can see in the video above.

Set to run for at least five seasons, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is led by showrunners and EPs Payne & McKay. They are joined by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, and Sharon Tal Yguado, and producers Ron Ames and Christopher Newman. Wayne Che Yip is co-EP and directs several episodes along with J.A. Bayona and Charlotte Brändström

Lizzo claps back at Kanye West’s remarks about her body… after he said attacks on her weight loss are a ‘genocide of the Black race’

Lizzo had a lot to say during her performance in Toronto, Canada on Friday night.

The 34-year-old singer and flautist seemingly responded to comments Kanye West, 45, recently made about her body.

After the rapper called attacks on her weight loss a ‘genocide of the Black race’ the songstress said, ‘I feel like everybody in America got my mother******* name in [their] mother******* mouth for no mother****** reason.’

Speaking out: During her show in Toronto on Friday, Lizzo seemingly responded to comments Kanye West made about her weight loss

Lizzo continued during a pause in her set, ‘I’m minding my fat, black, beautiful business.’ The crowd clapped and cheered as she spoke up for herself without naming Kanye explicitly.

The music artist – full name Melissa Jefferson – then asked the crowd, ‘Can I stay here [in Canada?’ before joking, ‘Who can I marry for that dual citizenship?’

Kanye’s comments came during a sitdown with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, in which he claimed any time Lizzo posts about losing weight, ‘bots’ and ‘media’ attack her to promote the idea that being ‘overweight is the new goal.’

‘It’s a genocide of the Black race,’ he declared in a wide-ranging conversation with the host on Thursday.

Seemingly driving her point home, Lizzo appeared on Instagram over the weekend to post a reel from a recent show.

The clip showed the entertainer with a spotlight on her face as an illuminated message flashed across her torso.

‘My body, my choice’ was emblazoned over her and in the caption she added only a period.

Kelly Rowland later showed support for the musician as she reposted the clip in her Insta Story and wrote, ‘Tell ‘EM!!!! I fxckin’ love you.’

Ye has ruffled a lot of feathers since donning a t-shirt that said ‘White Lives Matter’ during his Paris Fashion Week show.

Standing beside controversial political pundit Candace Owens, the two wore inverse colors of the same shirt.

What followed was a snowball of backlash from fans and celebrities on social media, with some defending Kanye and others condemning him.

But Kanye has stood firm on his position, continuing to wear variations of the shirt, most recently alongside ex-wife Kim Kardashian at daughter North’s, nine, basketball game.

Midsommar‘s Jack Reynor said, “There was a psychological toll making this film for sure” of his role as Christian in the folk horror film — especially the nudity and sexual scene near the end of the film, which he said he couldn’t process until after. “It was a tough week after it was finished, you know?” he said, emphasizing that he had to really focus on his mental health throughout the shoot in order to feel okay filming the scenes. “It really sat on me.” He immediately got on a plane after and decided to get hammered because of the experience.

He also said it was difficult filming the scene in the bear suit just before his character’s death. “It’s dark and it’s unsettling to watch all these people around you basically making it look like they’re going to kill you in a horrific way. There’s nothing you can do and you’re paralyzed, you know? It was heavy,” he said.

In addition, it was difficult to watch Florence Pugh (whom he grew close with during filming) “living in the pain and trauma of this character for such a long time,” Reynor said, then agreed with the interviewer that actors can experience “emotional and physical damage” on set. “People don’t even think about it. I think a lot of people just think, Oh, it’s just a movie. You’re just going to do it. It’s not real. … It’s fucking real when you’re there.”

2.

Will Poulter, who also appeared in the film, had nightmares after seeing it. “I had the worst night’s sleep of my life the night after,” he said. “Terrible, terrible, full-on nightmares. … [The film] is utterly disturbing. And it’s that kind of disturbing feeling that I think lingers longer than a fright. A fright has a very limited lifespan. This idea that humans are capable of what you see in Midsommar is kind of what’s most disturbing about it … Despite reading the script and despite being in it and shooting it, and presumably knowing what to expect, I was still caught massively off guard.”

3.

Possession star Isabelle Adjani suffered a mental breakdown after seeing a finished cut of the body horror–heavy film about a married couple’s breakup that turns bloody, according to the film’s director Andrzej Żuławski. It’s been reported that Żuławski “hypnotized his performers and put them into a fugue state before shooting certain scenes,” according to Rolling Stone, and Adjani herself had taken on the role “with a level of dedication bordering on religious devotion.” Adjani apparently said it took her years of therapy to recover from the role, which included a graphic miscarriage scene.

4.

And the movie’s other star, Sam Neill, called Possession “the most extreme film I’ve ever made, in every possible respect,” saying Żuławski “asked of us things I wouldn’t and couldn’t go to now. And I think I only just escaped that film with my sanity barely intact,” he continued.

5.

Hereditary star Alex Wolff told Vice that starring in the film gave him PTSD. “When I started talking about it, all these flashes with all this disturbing shit I went through sort of came back in a flood. It kept me up at night, to where I got into a habit of emotional masochism to the point of just trying to take in every negative feeling I could draw from. I forced it upon myself rather than the opposite of what you’d usually do in life, which is sit on the heater until it starts to burn, and you jump up immediately,” he said.

“I had to do the exact opposite of that and absorb the pain and let it burn,” Wolff continued. “It’s a reverse emotional thing. It’s hard to describe eloquently; it’s just a feeling. I don’t think you can go through something like this and not have some sort of PTSD afterward.”

6.

Psycho‘s Janet Leigh remained forever scarred by the famous shower scene in which her character, Marion Crane, is stabbed to death by Norman Bates. In fact, she stopped taking showers entirely, opting for baths instead.

And if that wasn’t possible, “I make sure the doors and windows of the house are locked. I also leave the bathroom door open and shower curtain open. I’m always facing the door, watching, no matter where the showerhead is,” Leigh said.

7.

The Birds‘ Tippi Hedren said that in the scene where her character is viciously attacked by birds, she was told the mechanical birds were not working, so the director, Alfred Hitchcock, used live birds instead. For five days, Hedren said, live birds (that were trained to peck her) were thrown at her and even tied to her. When one almost pecked her eye, she broke down and had to spend a week in bed due to exhaustion.

“It was brutal and ugly and relentless,” Hedron said. “I was never frightened, I was just overwhelmed and in some form of shock, and I just kept saying to myself over and over again, ‘I won’t let him break me.'” When Hitchcock called “cut” on the last take, Hedron said, “I just sat there on the floor, unable to move, and began sobbing from sheer exhaustion. Minutes passed before I looked up to discover that everyone had just left me there in the middle of that vast, silent soundstage, completely spent, empty, and alone.”

8.

The Shining‘s Shelley Duvall described her experience filming the classic horror film, which takes place in an empty, remote hotel, as “almost unbearable.” While filming, she says, she “was really in and out of ill health because the stress of the role was so great. Stanley [Kubrick] pushed me and prodded me further than I’ve ever been pushed before. It’s the most difficult role I’ve ever had to play.”

The stress was so bad, her hair began falling out in clumps. You can actually see this in Vivian Kubrick’s documentary Making the Shining. When Duvall shows it to Stanley Kubrick, the film’s director, he walks away and tells crew members, “Don’t sympathize with Shelley.” In a tribute to Kubrick, costar Jack Nicholson admitted that Kubrick was an entirely different director with Duvall, with the tribute then showing a clip of Kubrick getting angry with Duvall on set, and Duvall saying, “He can do some pretty cruel things when you’re filming.”

Kubrick had her perform the baseball bat scene 127 times, during which she realizes the depths of her husband’s madness as he confronts her, and it’s been reported that Kubrick also refused to praise her work and intentionally isolated her from the crew, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

It‘s Bill Skarsgård compared playing iconic horror villain Pennywise to being in a destructive relationship. He was happy to let go of the clown after filming, but also described being home afterward and having “strange and vivid Pennywise dreams” every night.

10.

And costar James McAvoy said he, too, had frequent nightmares of the clown post-shoot: “The only one I can really remember is, I’m lying on my side in the bed and he was in bed with me. And he’s stroking my back gently and saying, ‘Wake up, James, wake up.’ And I was just terrified, pretending to be asleep. I just thought, I’ve got to pretend to be asleep, I’ve got to pretend to be asleep. I had lots of nightmares about Pennywise, but that’s the one specific one I can remember.”

11.

Halloween‘s Kyle Richards was only 8 when she appeared as Lindsey in the film, which introduced horror icon Michael Myers to the world. For Richards, it wasn’t filming the movie but, rather, seeing herself in it that had an adverse effect: “I had no idea what I was in for. Seeing it for the first time all pieced together was a very, very different movie. It was just really scary, and I really did sleep with my mom until I was 15 years old after that. I was terrified,” she said.

“I think that’s what sealed the deal for me to get out of horror films. After seeing myself in that, I was always thinking there was someone hiding behind the drapes or outside my windows or under my bed, so I would just sleep holding my mom’s arm the entire night,” Richards said.

12.

Suspiria‘s Dakota Johnson said that starring as Susie, a dancer at a mysterious German dance school that turns out to be run by witches, “fucked me up so much that I had to go to therapy.” She described harsh shooting conditions in a mountaintop abandoned hotel.

She later said, “I find sometimes when I work on a project and — I don’t have any shame in this — I’m a very porous person and I absorb a lot of people’s feelings. When you’re working sometimes with dark subject matter, it can stay with you, and then to talk to somebody really nice about it afterwards is a really nice way to move on from the project.”

13.

Black Swan’s Natalie Portman said she was physically and emotionally drained after shooting wrapped on the psychological horror film: “It was the first time I understood how you could get so wrapped up in a role that it could sort of take you down.”

She also said, of her weight loss and preparation for the role, “There were some nights that I thought I literally was going to die.” Later, she’d admit that she “probably should have gone into rehab” after filming because when she began filming Thor, she was “spent.”

14.

Last House on the Left‘s Sandra Peabody (who went by the name Sandra Cassel at the time) was horribly mistreated by her male costars in the rape- and torture-heavy film about a kidnapped teenager, according to the documentary Celluloid Crime of the Century and the book Wes Craven’s The Last House on the Left. Marc Sheffler admitted to threatening to throw her off a cliff to try to rile her up for a scene (though in 2018, he stated she was not in real danger), and David Hess allegedly threatened to actually assault her in a rape scene.

Numerous actors and crew members, including Hess himself, spoke about how they believed that she was scared he might actually hurt her, and how all her reactions were real. It doesn’t look as if Peabody has ever addressed any of this, but she stopped making films two years later and moved to behind-the-scenes work as a producer, agent, and acting coach.

15.

And finally, let’s end on a TV example: American Horror Story‘s Evan Peters has played numerous villains and frightening characters in his time on the show, and has called it “really difficult to do,” saying it’s “hurting my soul and Evan as a person. There’s this massive amount of rage that’s been called upon from me.”

“It’s just exhausting. It’s really mentally draining, and you don’t want to go to those places ever in your life,” Peters said of filming frightening and disturbing content. “And so you have to go there for the scenes, and it ends up integrating it somehow into your life. You’re in traffic and you find yourself screaming and you’re like, What the hell? This isn’t who I am. I fight really hard to combat that.”

A day after yet another man’s unsolicited fatphobia about Lizzo went viral, the artist herself appeared to clap back at the comment while performing a concert in Toronto.

“I feel like everybody in America got my motherfucking name in their motherfucking mouth for no motherfucking reason,” Lizzo said on stage, in a video captured by Canadian oulet ETalk. “I’m minding my fat Black beautiful business.” Just a few days after American conservatives lost their minds over Lizzo playing James Madison’s flute—at the invitation of the Library of Congress—Kanye West went viral for calling Lizzo’s body-positivity “demonic” and likening it to a genocide of the Black race, per Insider.

We don’t need to give Ye’s nonsense any more airtime than is strictly necessary, but if I’m completely exhausted by all the hate and body-shaming directed at Lizzo, I can only imagine how tired she’s feeling right now. “Can I stay here,” Lizzo asks the crowd in Toronto in the video to screams of “Yes!” She asks, “Who can I marry for that dual citizenship?”

Lizzo is simply too busy recording bops and topping charts to keep responding to all this nonsense. Plus, she has more important statements to make on stage. Like, for example, FaceTiming a guy who’d been stringing along one of her fans and calling him out on stage.

“Saturday Night Live” parodied the intense social media reaction to the drama surrounding popular online comedy group the Try Guys with a sketch that featured parodies of the group’s remaining three members.

Episode host Brendan Gleeson, who was on the show to promote his upcoming film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” starred in the sketch as a CNN White House correspondent reporting on important developments in America’s relations with Russia. But — much to the befuddlement of anchor Ego Nwodim — Gleeson interrupts the report to announce that the Try Guys have responded to the controversy surrounding Ned Fulmer, who was fired from the group after admitting to a “consensual workplace relationship” with a producer of the group’s online video series.

“It’s obviously an evolving story, but CNN can confirm that the Try Guys have released an official Youtube video clapping back at ex-Try Guy Ned Fulmer, the wife guy-Try Guy,” Gleeson says. “He disrespected the brand by making out with one of the Food Babies at the Harry Styles concert,” referring to details of the scandal.

Bowen Yang, Mikey Day and Andrew Dismukes played the three Try Guys Eugene Lee Yang, Zach Kornfeld and Keith Habersberger, appearing on CNN in a video formation identical to the one seen in their initial video addressing Fulmer’s exit from the video series, which is produced by a company founded by all four initial members. While Gleeson’s reporter is starstruck to speak with the three, an increasingly confused Nwodim tries desperately to understand why the story matters, asking if the affair was non-consensual.

“Worse, he committed the heinous act of having a consensual kiss, and not telling us, his friends,” Day says as Try Guy Kornfield.

“We hope he is somewhere on his back, with a bullet in his brain and belly,” Yang says as Try Guy Yang.

The sketch also parodied some of the criticism facing the Try Guys accusing them of overselling the drama of the event, such as them promising to edit Fulmer out of future videos and saying they processed the event “like a trauma.” The three Try Guys constantly demand the CNN editors cut to them, and discuss the tragedy of the event while continuing to promote their videos.

“Due to the trauma we are facing, our editors are working around the clock to remove any trace of Ned from past Try Guys content,” Dismukes says as Try Guy Habersberger. “This is the battle of our lives.”

“It will still be amazeballs, but it will also be sadballs,” Day says. “We’re all processing this horrific, violent and probably racist tragedy.”

While Gleeson’s superfan is left emotional by their video, thanking them for their bravery, Nwodim is left unimpressed, noting them that they’re millionaires before leaving her post to go take ketamine.

Spider-Senses will be tingling across New York City as The New York Public Library (NYPL) and Marvel Entertainment join forces to release a special, limited-edition Spider-Man library card on October 11 to inspire new and existing patrons to explore a multitude of free books, resources, and programs at the Library, including Marvel graphic novels. This dynamic collaboration—which debuts just in time for New York Comic Con—marks the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man’s first comic book appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 and emphasizes the importance of reading, knowledge, and libraries to Peter Parker’s crime-fighting comic book adventures. Images of Spider-Man—alongside Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, two other iconic web-slingers—will be featured on the card, as well as on upcoming banners outside the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building and the windows of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL), exciting patrons of all ages to tap into the unique power of reading, comics, and libraries to discover their inner super hero. Details about the card and related activities are available online: nypl.org/beyondamazing

The Spider-Man card follows in the footsteps of previous library cards issued for the beloved children’s book The Snowy Day and the Library’s “Knowledge Is Power” card; aiming to help New Yorkers discover their full potential by tapping into the power of everything NYPL has to offer—millions of books to help readers scale new heights, a web of information via free computers and internet access, and a super-team of library staff—all available at your friendly neighborhood library.

The release of the Spider-Man card also marks the one-year anniversary of the Library’s decision to eliminate fines as a way to remove barriers to accessing the Library for all New Yorkers. This historic move was even a plot point in Marvel Comics’ Amazing Spider-Man #900, released on July 27. In a special story written by Daniel Kibblesmith, drawn by David Lopez, and colored by Nathan Fairbairn, Peter Parker returns a large stack of overdue books to the Library after learning of the elimination of late fines. Readers can check out Amazing Spider-Man #900 in a special bonus release on Marvel Unlimited, Marvel’s premier digital comics subscription service.

The launch of the special-edition card also marks the start of the Library’s Open House week, which begins October 11. The card will be available to new and current patrons free on a first-come, first-serve basis at all NYPL branches, located throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Libraries will be hosting a variety of programs and events throughout the week, as well as featuring book displays and reading recommendations from a special reading list curated by NYPL staff.

“Reading is a superpower—one that provides everyone with the ability to learn, to be inspired, and understand the world more fully,” said New York Public Library President Anthony W. Marx. “At The New York Public Library we remain dedicated to providing books and resources that help New Yorkers reach new heights and working with Marvel on this exciting, limited-edition Spider-Man card reinforces the exceptional accomplishments people can achieve when they have access to information. It also states unequivocally that we think our patrons are ‘beyond amazing.’”

“Marvel’s history has always been rooted in telling stories on the page. And to many people, those stories taught them the joy and power of reading, whether it was their first comic book or graphic novel at a young age or the first time they shared their passion for Marvel comics with their friends and families,” said Marvel Vice President of Licensed Publishing Sven Larsen. “With so many of our most iconic moments and characters established in New York City, we’re thrilled to work with The New York Public Library to invite even more people to dive into Marvel and find their own favorites across Spider-Man’s legacy.”

NYPL’s Teens 360º Initiative

Graphic novels, comics, and manga titles are among the most popular materials checked out by teen users at the Library, the release of the Spider-Man card is a key component of The launch of The New York Public Library’s new initiative, Teens 360º codifies the Library’s abiding commitment to enhancing and expanding services and spaces for young adults, which in the years to come will include: greatly expanding the number of dedicated teen centers in The New York Public Library service area, developing programs focused on digital literacy and technology skills, and providing holistic support for teens—who have faced unprecedented challenges and changes over the last several years, especially during the pandemic—from school support, to college and career readiness, to mental health resources. This work is part of the Library’s overall commitment to New Yorkers and education programs, led by the Merryl H. and James S. Tisch Director of The New York Public Library, and its mission to support education outside of the classroom, and ensure knowledge and opportunities are accessible to all.

NYPL’s Professional Day for Librarians and Educators at NYCC

In support of educators seeking resources to use comics in their classrooms, the Library will be hosting a Professional Day on October 6 for Librarians and Educators at New York Comic Con presented by its Center for Educators & Schools. The day will consist of fifteen hour-long sessions offered between 10:30 AM and 5 PM. Attendees will hear directly from other educators how they use comics in the classroom, ranging in subjects from civics to physics. The majority of the sessions offer CTLE (continuing education) credits and New York State teachers can earn up to 3 credit hours for attending.
