The legendary basketball player LeBron James, 37, shared a family video of him and his sons shooting hoops on Instagram together on August 2, 2022, and those boys are catching up to their dad quickly! LeBron captioned the post with, “Simply no better feeling than doing what I love to do with who I love! Great work today Young #JamesGang #EarnedNotGiven.” In the video, Lebron was seen with his two sons Bronny, 17, and Bryce, 15, on a basketball court in El Segundo, according to TMZ.

More AboutLeBron James

LeBron showed off his impressive athletic frame by going completely shirtless during the sweaty hoop session. His two boys are sure to be following in their father’s footsteps and they are clearly getting the best coaching out there. LeBron is approaching his 20th year in the league with his two sons working toward finishing high school, the outlet reported.

Many of LeBron’s followers were shocked and impressed at how well both Bronny and Bryce played on the court with their dad. One Instagram user even wrote, “Bryce looking like KD 2.0.” While another wrote, “Whole squad got HOPS.”

The famous rapper Diddy, 52, also took to the comment section to simply write a flexed bicep emoji to show his support for the James family. In the video, LeBron’s two boys were effortlessly dunking alongside their impressive father. One of the pictures in the post also showed the three of them standing side-by-side with their hands on their waist in an ultimate father and son goals pose.

LeBron is not only a dad to Bronny and Bryce, but also to his seven-year-old daughter Zhuri James. The Los Angeles Lakers player has had all of his children with his wife Savannah Brinson, 35, who LeBron married back in 2013. Savannah and LeBron are also high school sweethearts, which we must say is simply adorable!

She told Cleveland Magazine back in 2017 that the power couple actually met when she was just 16 years old. I have this number for this guy that I can call. He seemed interested, so let’s see.” After that phone call, we can safely assume that the rest was history, as their marriage has been going strong for nearly a decade now.

‘Nobody Ever Told the Story of Baseball Better’

Following the death of Vin Scully, the icon who announced LA Dodgers games with poignancy and wit for decades, his fans — including sports figures and Hollywood luminaries — paid tribute to the man known as the voice of the team and his city.

Scully died on Tuesday at age 94 from natural causes, 6 years after he formally retired from his longtime role. And even nearly a decade later, for his admirers no time had passed at all, nor was his loss felt any less deeply.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti called Scully “our dear friend, the Voice of LA,” and said “he united us, inspired us, and showed us all what it means to serve.”

“No one was better at any job than Vin Scully was at his,” Jimmy Kimmel said, calling Scully “a lovely man on top of that.”

“There will never be another Vin Scully. Our most heartfelt condolences to the Scully family, the Dodgers organization, and baseball fans everywhere,” the Minnesota Twins organization said on its official Twitter page.

“You are more a part of Los Angeles History than sunshine and palm trees. Your voice will forever echo throughout the city,” actor Oshea Jackson said.

“Our hearts are with the friends, family and fans of Vin Scully. A true legend. He will be missed,” the Chicago White Sox organization said.

Vin Scully’s passing is the end of a chapter of our city’s history. He united us, inspired us, and showed us all what it means to serve. Our City Hall will be lit up for you tomorrow Vin, our dear friend, the Voice of LA. Thank you from a grateful and loving city. #vinscully

I literally pulled the car over in awe one day in LA because I could not believe that any human being could put anything that perfectly. Rest In Peace Vin Scully. Rest In Peace.

— Bradley Whitford (@BradleyWhitford) August 3, 2022

Vin Scully was a storyteller, and nobody ever told the story of baseball better. He called games with such elegance and grace. He spoke only when necessary, allowing the broadcast to breathe when it demanded. He made baseball a more beautiful game. RIP. https://t.co/cmQ2nGJW3Y

— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) August 3, 2022

Vin Scully announced games every night from April to October for 70 years. He talked and chatted and mused and related and observed. He always made it seem like he was sitting right next to you, talking only to you — just your nice friend who loved baseball.

This is a devastating, devastating day for the city of Los Angeles and the world. Vin Scully was the greatest broadcaster who ever lived. And he was as kind in real life as he was on the air. My thoughts are with his family and everyone who loved him,

— Molly Knight (@molly_knight) August 3, 2022

The greatest baseball broadcaster who ever lived, Vin Scully, has passed away. It was an honor just to know him. He demonstrated that language still matters and forged an intimate bond with his listeners that the rest of us can only strive to achieve. The Renoir of broadcasters.

— Howie Rose (@HowieRose) August 3, 2022

Vin Scully’s undisputedly the greatest broadcaster of all time. The most iconic & soothing voice you’ll ever hear, an absolute legend and such a lovable human. Rest In Peace Vin

— Gabe (@PlayoffTanaka_) August 3, 2022

When I think of what baseball sounds like, it is Vin Scully. 1 of the joys of the baseball package coming along was I could come home from an East Coast game, turn on the Dodgers and hear Scully at his peak, just as my dad had a half century earlier. #TheBest #RIP https://t.co/KHnDyuKK4Y

— Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) August 3, 2022

Vin Scully called my brother’s MLB debut. I’ll never forget the sound of his voice say, “welcome to the big leagues, kid!” after pitching his first inning.

Beyonce REMOVES Kelis sample from her song after Milkshake artist accused singer of ‘theft’

Beyonce has apparently removed a sample of the 2003 Kelis song Milkshake from her song Energy, following criticism from Kelis over the sample.

The song Energy – from the latest album Renaissance from Beyonce, 40 – had revised versions on Tidal and Apple as of Tuesday, according to Rolling Stone. At one point, a glitch occurred on Tidal, with just the isolated vocals featured and almost two minutes of silence.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the version of Energy featuring the Kelis sample remained the same on the Spotify version as of Tuesday.

Upset: R&B singer Kelis last week accused Beyonce of 'theft' for allegedly using a sample of a track off her 2003 album Tasty on her new album without permission. She was seen in 2019 in LA

The latest: Beyonce, 40, has removed a sample of the 2003 Kelis song Milkshake from her song Energy, following criticism from Kelis, 42, over the sample

The 2003 hit from Kelis was penned by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (formerly known as The Neptunes), who both were credited on the Beyonce track, though Kelis wasn’t. Beyonce’s website indicated that the samples used on the track were interpolated, altering the existing sound for a new song.

Kelis last week accused Beyonce of ‘theft’ for allegedly using a sample of a track off her 2003 album Tasty on her new album without permission.

The performer, 42, didn’t hold back after discovering that the superstar, 40, used a short section from her song, Milkshake, on her forthcoming track, Energy, alongside the rest of the world.

After a fan account for the two-time Grammy nominee posted about the news, Kelis commented that she was shocked by the song credit and angered not to have any advance notice.

‘My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance all 3 parties involved is astounding,’ she said. ‘I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.’

In response to one comment that Beyonce clearly admires her work, Kelis replied: ‘Admire is not the word.’

When another expressed excitement about them working together, the mom-of-two, who was writing under her celebrity chef account @bountyandfull, claimed: ‘It’s not a collab it’s theft.’

Kelis later took to Instagram calling the track Milkshake ‘one of the most licensed records of our generation.’

She added: ‘I am a creator , I’m an innovator, I have done more then left my mark on an era of music and style that will go down in history. But there are [bullies] and secrets and gangsters in this industry that smile and get away with it until someone says enough is enough. So I’m saying it today. I’m coming for what’s mine and I want reparations. Peace.’

Previously Kelis fans called out Beyonce for ‘ripping off’ Ring the Alarm from Caught out There.

Beyonce’s upcoming record will be the seventh she has produced over her much-celebrated career.

She also penned a lengthy statement that was shared on her Instagram account, in which she noted that the recording process was thoroughly enjoyable.

‘Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving,’ she stated.

Beyonce added: ‘My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration.’

She concluded by writing: ‘I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.’

Renaissance’s first single, Break My Soul, was previously released to the public on June 20.

The hitmaker worked with several artists, including Big Freedia and her husband, Jay-Z, to produce the track.

The song has since received widespread critical acclaim from many music critics.

Beyonce initially teased that she was working on new music during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last August.

During the sit-down with the media outlet, the Drunk In Love singer expressed that her recording process had been particularly arduous.

‘I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare,’ she said.

Beyonce then confirmed that she still loved making music and that she was happy to be working on new material.

She expressed: ‘After 31 years, it feels just as exciting as it did when I was nine years old. Yes, the music is coming!’

The highly anticipated record, which was scheduled to be released at midnight on Thursday, can be found online and CDs are already being sold in Europe, according to Variety.

The album was leaked on Wednesday.

Masoom Minawala Opens Up on Normalising Women Working Through Pregnancy

On July 25, global Influencer and fashion entrepreneur Masoom Minawala took to social media to announce that she is six weeks pregnant. The video also featured her husband, Antwerp-based diamond merchant Shailin Mehta, as the duo twinned in white, and gave a sneak peek into how their near and dear ones reacted on hearing about her pregnancy.

In an exclusive chat with News18, Minawala, for the first time, opens up on being pregnant and recalls the moment when she came to know that she is going to be a mother. “My first reaction was absolute joy. I couldn’t wait to share the news with my husband and family,” she says excitedly.

A while back, actor Neha Dhupia sparked off conversations about the need to normalise women working during their pregnancy when she revealed that she was eight months pregnant while shooting for A Thursday. And in June this year, actor Alia Bhatt slammed an article which stated that she planned her pregnancy in a way that it doesn’t affect her professional commitments.

Sharing her views on how pregnant women working often draw comments, some not in very good taste, Minawala, who continues to work and travel, opines, “There is definitely a long way to go but I wouldn’t take away from the progress we’ve made. There are so many working moms challenging the stigmas around it, across different industries. The only way to normalise this as a society is to encourage, understand and respect the decision of women who want to work during pregnancy or after giving birth.”

Quiz her if she thinks public figures can help in setting a precedent by defying the stereotype, and Minawala says, “Of course! By challenging these stigmas around working women, we’re actually setting an excellent example for society and the people who look up to us.” She adds, “I’ve been trying to balance and prioritised my time between my personal and professional life for over a decade now and I’m continuing to do that as I step into this exciting new phase of life.”

Talking about how grateful she feels about having her mother around her to help her embrace her impending motherhood, Minawala shares, “Ideally, I’d like to be a blend of both, a hands-on and a cool mum, but only time will tell! Plus, I’ve my mother, who has always been my go-to person for any advice.”

Yang is beginning her first term as president and her second term as a Governor-at-Large. The Board also voted on the officers, electing:

  • Teri E. Dorman, Vice President (chair, Membership Committee)
  • Donna Gigliotti, Vice President/Secretary (chair, Governance Committee)

“Janet is a tremendously dedicated and strategic leader who has an incredible record of service at the Academy,” said Bill Kramer, Academy CEO. “I am thrilled that she is taking on the esteemed role of Academy President and look forward to working closely with her on our shared vision to serve our membership, celebrate the collaborative arts and sciences of motion pictures, and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.”

Yang, 66, is an established figure in Hollywood who has worked with filmmakers including Oliver Stone and Kathryn Bigelow. Her previous credits include “The Joy Luck Club” (1993), “The People vs. Larry Flynt” (1996) and the Oscar-nominated “Over the Moon” (2020). A member of the Academy’s Producers Branch since 2002, Yang most recently served on the Board as vice president and chair of the Membership Committee and, before that, the Membership and Governance Committee. She is also co-chair of the Academy’s Asian Affinity Group.

One governor described her to Variety as “a very smart and seasoned professional” back in July.

We’re excited to see everyone again out at Petco in November.”

This will be the first time Dia De Los Deftones without longtime bassist Sergio Vega, who left the band over a contract dispute in March and is currently playing with his original group Quicksand.

New Yorker Acquires Israeli Documentary Shorts Holy Holocaust, Herd

The New Yorker has acquired Israeli documentary shorts “Holy Holocaust” and “Herd.”

Jerusalem-based sales agent Go2Films has secured a worldwide digital distribution deal with the publication for the pair of award-winning films. “Holy Holocaust” is directed by Osi Wald and Noa Berman-Hertzberg, while “Herd” is helmed by Omer Daida.

Both films are currently nominated for Israeli Academy Awards and have played at international festivals. “Herd” debuted on The New Yorker’s digital channels on Wednesday, while “Holy Holocaust” will be released on The New Yorker later this year.

“Holy Holocaust” is an animated doc short that reveals a dark family secret between two longtime friends: Jennifer, a German, and Noa, an Israeli. The film had its North American premiere at Hot Docs in May, and previously won best short animation at the 2021 Jerusalem Film Festival.

The film also screened in the Austrian Tricky Women/Tricky Realities, Krakow International Film Festival and Doc Edge International Film Festival in New Zealand. The deal was negotiated in collaboration with Cord Dueppe from the Berlin-based sales company Interfilm.

The short documentary “Herd” focuses on Na’ama, a 10-year-old who confronts questions of life and death as she works on her father’s cattle ranch. Director Omer Daida recently won the Most Promising Director award in the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival, and, earlier this year, the Artistic Vision Award at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and the Students’ Film Competition at the Docaviv International Film Festival.

“Herd” premiered in IDFA as part of the shorts competition and was also screened at Doc Edge 2022, Pärnu Film Festival in Estonia, and the Ulju Mountain Film Festival in South Korea.

“Directed by young female filmmakers and focused on women, these stories combine delicacy, wisdom and a bold message with an uncompromising cinematic aesthetic,” said Hedva Goldschmidt, managing director of Go2Films. “We are happy to work with The New Yorker, home of compelling storytelling, which pays personal attention to every filmmaker.”

Gina Rodriguez and Joe LoCicero Relationship Timeline

It all started on set. Gina Rodriguez and her husband Joe LoCicero first met on a 2016 episode of Jane the Virgin — the show that shot her to stardom — but they didn’t start dating until months later.

In a May 2017 interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan, the actress noted that the New Jersey native didn’t make a move right away. In fact, it wasn’t until six months after their onset meet-cute that they ran into each other at a boxing gym.

“Do you think he tracked you down?” cohost Ryan Seacrest asked, to which the NYU alum joked, “Yes!”

Shortly thereafter, in January 2017, the pair made their first red carpet appearance at that year’s SAG Awards. Since then, LoCicero and Rodriguez have supported each other at numerous events, including when the I Want You Back actress sat in the front row to watch her partner become the California State Middleweight amateur Muay Thai Champion in June 2018.

One month later, the couple raised eyebrows with a vacation snap that showed off a large diamond sparkler on Rodriguez’s left finger. In August 2018, the Awake performer exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly that she was engaged.

“I have a very, very special man in my life. I am engaged. You’re the first people that I’ve told,” she gushed to Us at the time. “I am marrying a feminist. I am marrying a man that is incredible and loving and understanding and kind and patient. I’m marrying a really incredible human being. That what it is. I met a human that like, knows he’s a human.”

The pair made things official in May 2019 in an intimate ceremony. The Kajillionaire actress wore a white satin Pronovias gown before changing into a second dress for the reception. In the video from their special day, both Rodriguez and LoCicero appeared to get emotional as the CW alum made her way down the aisle.

“Thank you to my mother in law for the wedding of my dreams. And the village that helped her!” Rodriguez captioned the video from her nuptials via Instagram.

In July 2022, nearly three years after tying the knot, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together.

“This birthday hits different ❤️,” the Lost Ollie actress captioned an Instagram montage, including footage of the pair looking at a positive pregnancy test and crying.

Ashley Benson Erotic ’18 & Over’ Film: Early Access to $263 NFT Buyers

If you think the price of early-access premium VOD movies from major studios is steep, this will make your eyes roll.

For the launch of “18 & Over,” an indie horror film starring, produced by and co-created by Ashley Benson (“Pretty Little Liars”), the producers are granting an exclusive two-month streaming window to fans who buy one of 10,000 limited-edition NFTs with character art based on the movie.

The price of entry? The NFTs will go on sale for $263 each on Aug 5 — which, if they all sell out, would work out to a $2.63 million total haul. Then, starting Aug. 12, each NFT owner will be able to watch the “collector’s cut” of the film for a two-month period via a private link.

To be fair, producers Hercules Film Fund and Rhea Films say that “long-term holders” of the NFTs will receive perks in addition to early-access streaming, including exclusive access to the collectors’ community and virtual hangouts with the movie’s talent and director. In addition, NFT owners will receive “rewards in the form of a rebate linked to success in the traditional distribution market,” according to the companies. More info on the movie and the NFT drop is available at this link.

After the NFT-exclusive window, a theatrical cut of the film will be made available for traditional distribution. WME is handling worldwide sales.

Directed by Jimmy Giannopolous, “18 & Over” features an ensemble cast including Benson, Jon Foster, Jake Weary, Luis Guzman, Winnie Harlow, G Eazy, Duke Nicholson, A$AP Nast, John Robinson, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Pelas and Pamela Anderson. The movie’s original score was composed by G-Eazy, marking the artist’s first-ever film score.

In “18 & Over,” set during the COVID pandemic, Benson plays Vicky, who’s looking for an escape after going through a relationship breakup. While in a remote cabin, she models lingerie for her followers on an adults-only livestreaming website (called 18 & Over) — before the power goes out… and she’s terrorized by a masked, crowbar-wielding murderer.

The “18 & Over” NFTs will be sold through Nifty Gateway, the digital collectibles marketplace that hosted NFT drops for Warner Bros.’s “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and “The Matrix Resurrections.” NFT company Digital Nativ is overseeing the “18 & Over” NFT launch.

NFTs, a craze that took off in early 2021, provide a way to authenticate ownership of individual pieces of digital content, using distributed blockchain technology.

Watch the trailer for “18 & Over,” which features Benson in a bathtub donning a hockey mask:

Here’s what the NFT for Benson’s Vicky character looks like:

“18 & Over” was written by Diomedes Raul Bermudez and Giannopolous, with story by Bermudez, Giannopolous and Benson. The film is produced by Purpose Film’s Diomedes Raul Bermudez, Artemis Picture’s Siena Oberman, Cassius Corrigan and Ashley Benson. The film is executive produced by Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis, Terry Dougas, and Jean-Luc de Fanti and Jamin O’Brien.

In partnership with Rhea Films, the Hercules Film Fund since 2015 has financed or co-financed several motion pictures, including “American Made,” directed by Doug Liman and starring Tom Cruise, “Good Time,” directed by the Safdie brothers and starring Robert Pattinson, and Brie Larson’s directorial debut “Unicorn Store,” released by Netflix.

Trevor St. John Joins ‘Young & the Restless’ in Mystery Role

“One Life to Live” star Trevor St. John has been tapped for a mystery role on “The Young and the Restless,” a representative from the CBS soap confirmed to TheWrap on Tuesday.

He begins taping soon and will make his first appearance later this year. The venerable daytime serial returns for its 50th season in September.

St. John is best known for his role as Todd Manning on “One Life to Live” after the exit of original star Roger Howarth, who objected to the villainous character’s redemption arc. He also played Manning’s twin brother, Victor Lord, Jr., reprising the role for the 2013 internet reboot of the series.

Most recently, he was a series regular on the CW’s “Roswell, Next Mexico,” and ABC’s “Promised Land,” both of which were canceled earlier this year.

St. John is represented by BRS/Gage Talent Agency and Tim Taylor at Luber Roklin Management.

Deadline first reported the news.

20 Best Lip Gloss and Oils ‘Glamour’ Editors Can’t Live Without

Wearing your best lip gloss on any given day always makes you feel like that girl. For years, it seemed like the beauty product couldn’t quite shake its association with velour Juicy Couture tracksuits and messy middle school first kisses (who didn’t keep a fresh tube of Lip Smacker lip gloss in their back pocket, just in case?). But it’s 2022 now, and we’re here to report lip gloss has shaken off its juvenile association to become the hottest cosmetic product of the year.

The reign of ultra-dry, matte liquid lips has recently fallen out of favor, with everyone from influencers and makeup artists instead opting for glosses and lip oils designed to deliver perfect shine. Thank Rihanna, who makes everything look good (her Gloss Bomb is one of her best-selling Fenty products), or Glossier, which popularized, well, anything glossy.

The latest iterations offer shine, color, and comfort across the board, and those sticky, hair-catching problems you remember from the ’90s and early ‘00s are firmly in the past. Aside from being a part of the “clean girl” makeup routine, hydrating formulas in lip masks and lip oils (hello, Dior Lip Glow Oil!) also double as incredible glosses. It’s a win-win.

Need proof? We asked Glamour editors to share their all-time best lip glosses. Here are the ones that won glowing reviews across the board.

All products featured on Glamour are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Review: ‘Bullet Train’ goes off the rails, but Pitt doesn’t

Aboard the speeding locomotive of “Bullet Train” ride at least five assassins, one venomous reptile (a snake on the train), countless glib Guy Ritchie-esque slo-mo action sequences, and one bucket-hat wearing Brad Pitt.

It’s a lot of ingredients that go into this candy-colored, battle royale of a movie. But the only one that really matters is that last one. At 58, Pitt’s star power has never seemed so easy and so natural. Radiant in “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” delicious in “The Lost City,“ Pitt glides into “Bullet Train” in an rarified state of cruise control. Seldom has a movie star seemed to be having so much fun.

In “Bullet Train,” which opens in theaters Friday, Pitt plays a hired gun by profession but little else. His code name is Ladybug. He doesn’t like guns. And in his first job back after a hiatus of self-reflection and therapy, he goes into lethal fights with great reluctance, spouting self-help slogans like “Hurt people hurt people“ in the midst of hand-to-hand combat. Pitt, a maximum movie star with a minimalist bent, is a hitman with no taste for hitting.

Ladybug, tasked to grab a very particular briefcase off a train headed from Tokyo to Kyoto, might not be up for the job, but the bigger question is whether “Bullet Train“ is a good enough vehicle for its biggest star. Director David Leitch, the stuntman-turned-director of “Atomic Blonde” and “Deadpool 2,” has brought the style and energy of a “John Wick” film (he co-directed the first) to a setting that has traditionally been associated with more subtle methods of killing.

But with films like Bong Joon Ho’s “Snowpiercer” and the Liam Neeson-led “The Commuter“ greasing the wheels, train movies have chugged along since the original “Murder on the Orient Express.” Adapted from Kōtarō Isaka’s pulpy novel, “MariaBeetle,” “Bullet Train” amps the carnage further and shifts the action to Japan.

But the location here is mostly just a neon-lit stage for a high-speed melee with an international ensemble, including Brian Tyree Henry (best of the bunch) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as bickering British “twins“; Andrew Koji as a Japanese assassin; a Mexican cartel veteran named the Wolf (Benito A. Martinez Ocasio, a.k.a. Bad Bunny); a dangerous young woman called Prince who fake cries her way out of nearly everything (Joey King); and Zazie Beetz’s killer known as the Hornet.

All are on the train for various criminal reasons ultimately connected to a Russian kingpin named the White Death. The actor playing this most fearsome character is best left to the third-act reveal, but that’s just one way “Bullet Train” plays around with star persona. There’s a cameo that answers Pitt’s in “The Lost City.” Another “Lost City” star, Sandra Bullock, is mostly only heard on the other end of a phone line, as Ladybug’s handler.

The copious flashbacks and quirky banter (Henry’s character has an outlook based around Thomas the Tank Engine) that accompany the juggling of all these characters in between bloody encounters is a familiar kind of framework recalling a long line of Quentin Tarantino knockoffs. In “Bullet Train,” a movie that proudly opts for style over substance, characters are introduced like videogame fighters, running gags get run into the ground and a winking irreverence lands somewhere in between playful and exhausting.

It’s no train wreck. Leitch’s film is colorful, cartoonish and well-choreographed. But the more-is-more manic energy of “Bullet Train“ eventually peters out, since that’s all the movie was ever running on. Well, that and Pitt. His charm alone does wonders for the movie, raising it at least to the level of watchable. When, in the finale, Ladybug sails comically unharmed through the wreckage, it captures the situation exactly. “Bullet Train” might go off the rails but Pitt remains bulletproof.

“Bullet Train,” a Columbia Pictures release, is rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for strong and bloody violence, pervasive language, and brief sexuality. Running time: 126 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four.

Batgirl movie, release shelved
Film

Warner Bros. has scrapped the Batgirl movie with no plans to release it

This is a bit odd. According to the New York Post, Warner Bros. will be scrapping the Batgirl movie, with no plans to release it… either theatrically or on HBO Max.

With a budget rumoured to come close to $90 million, this would be an expensive loss for the studio if it turns out to be true. The report states that a test screening of Batgirl was “so poorly received by moviegoers that the studio decided to cut its losses and run, for the sake of the brand’s future.” One source said that Warner Bros. thinks that “an unspeakable Batgirl is going to be irredeemable.” Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap also confirmed the report, adding that in spite of reshoots and an increased budget, Batgirl just didn’t work when compared to the other DC movies.

Knox Goes Away: Michael Keaton to star in and direct a noir thriller written by Gregory Poirier

The Batgirl movie was originally developed for HBO Max when Toby Emmerich was in charge of the studio. The recent merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery found David Zazlav taking over, who is notorious for being a cost-cutter. He shut down CNN+ less than a month after the $300 million streaming service launched, so scrapping Batgirl wouldn’t necessarily be out of character. Although there had been discussions about giving Batgirl a theatrical release at one point, the project hadn’t been scripted or produced with that in mind. David Zazlav has also committed to making sure that future DC movies are big theatrical events, and it seems that Batgirl didn’t fit the bill of a DC blockbuster.

Batgirl stars Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Batman. Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah helmed the movie, which Christina Hodson scripted. Given the talent involved, it’s a shame that the Batgirl movie has been scrapped and won’t be released in any fashion, and all in the name of cutting costs.

Reviewers Gush Over New Album

On her new long-awaited new album “Renaissance,” Beyoncé draws from several decades of dance culture in a smart, sexy way that (mostly) has critics calling for a round of applause.

Most critics echo disco-club icon Grace Jones, who declares in a guest vocal on the club track “Move” that Bey is the “Queen of Culture.” But at least one critic found the album to be “more style than substance.”

“Renaissance” currently has a 93 score on Metacritic, with critics not seeming to agree whether track 12, titled “Thique,” is a “misfire” or a “standout.”

Here’s a roundup of reviews:

“Beyoncé sounds like she’s experiencing something personally new and privately glorious: unmitigated ecstasy. It takes different forms: bliss, obviously; but a sexy sternness, too. The exercise of control is as entertaining on this album as the exorcism of stress…. As expensive, production-wise, as ‘Renaissance’ sounds (one song credits two dozen writers, including samples and interpolations), Beyoncé’s singing here transcends any price tag. The range of her voice nears the galactic; the imagination powering it qualifies as cinema. She coos, she growls, she snarls, she doubles and triples herself.”

“The catalog of touchstones, samples and cameos on ‘Renaissance’ could double as a syllabus for a master class on the evolution of dance music as it has unfolded during Beyoncé’s lifetime — and in this era of easily accessible YouTube clips and streaming discographies, it should.”

“As far as seventh albums go, this one feels like as big a swing as ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ or ‘Ray of Light’ or ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ … But not even the most devoted member of the Beyhive could’ve predicted how thoroughly the 40-year-old superstar would follow through on her promise with the wild and ravishing ‘Renaissance,’ which came out Friday and immediately reshaped the conversation about 2022’s most important music…. ‘Renaissance’ is miles ahead of the competition.”

“The 28-time Grammy winner may be the only sovereign of pop to have truly evolved artistically while also expanding an enormous commercial empire…. Not everything is as rewarding on ‘Renaissance,’ though. ‘Thique’ is not exactly a misfire…. But for the woman who coined the actual Webster’s term ‘bootylicious’ some 20 years ago, ‘Thique,’ with its would-be salacious references to ‘that jelly, baby,’ ‘that candy-girl piñata,’ and ‘that oochie coochie la la’ come off a tad trite, as if Beyoncé absentmindedly consulted some instant IG caption generator.”

“There is little Beyoncé has to prove to anyone 25 years down the line, but the start of this ‘three act project’ proves that she’s still able to push herself and delve into new sonics, styles and ethos. On ‘Renaissance’, she’s added another remarkable record to her repertoire, this time one to continue leading the charge to bring Black culture back to the forefront of house and dance scenes. ‘Renaissance’ does precisely what it says on the tin; the revival of Black classics, and she makes sure a lot of love goes into that.”

“As our biggest pop stars increasingly turn to dance music for inspiration, Beyoncé focused her famous work ethic on the nuances of club culture for a challenging, densely-referenced album that runs circles around her similarly minded, Billboard-charting peers. For nearly a decade she has made pop music on her own terms, uninterested in the dusty edicts of the music industry and pointed about her intended audience; now pop fans bend to Beyoncé, not the other way around.”

Kelis Calls Out Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams for Not Clearing Song Sample With Her

“‘Renaissance’ feels both vitally current and elegantly classicist. ‘America Has a Problem’ is a bait-and-switch about sexual satisfaction powered by a hyperactive hi-hat. The latter track is one of ‘Renaissance’s weaker moments, a rework of the cheeky 1990 Kilo Ali cautionary tale ‘Cocaine (America Has a Problem)’ that simply doesn’t match Beyoncé’s finest moments as a rapper—already something like her fifth most significant skillset. And for proof, look no further than album standout “Thique.’”

PopMatters, John Amen: “A Post-COVID Soiree and Massive PR Campaign”

“While Renaissance never collapses into overt posturing, the album’s chief function, ultimately, is to highlight Beyoncé’s contemporaneity… As with many parties, however, particularly high-fashion or corporate galas, the gathering is rarely without a hierarchical motive, i.e., to advance the host’s reputation. ‘Renaissance’ succeeds as a post-COVID soiree and massive PR campaign, though one can’t help but note that the album occasionally sports more style than substance.”

Nichelle Nichols, Lieutenant Uhura from TV show “Star Trek”, dies at 89

The tremendous actress also singer and dancer Nichelle Nichols, who played amongst the most significant role in TV series “Star Trek”, died at the of 89 on Saturday per The Washington Post and later confirmed by her publicist. Nichols was born on 28 December 1932 in a large family, in Robins, Illinois. She was the third of six children. Growing up in Chicago was hard, but Nichols was determined and stayed to do some schooling. Shortly after she traveled back and forth between Los Angeles and New York trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible.

At the beginning of her career, she was best known for performances from musicals with her first appearance, in the early 1960s, “Kicks and Co” play by Oscar Brown, famous songwriter and playwright. However, the play did not run long which lead Nichols to modeling to help pay the bills. She was a beautiful model and made a name for herself on photoshoots.

Shortly after, Nichols began singing in Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington bands touring with them all over the USA and Europe. Nicholas even began a long career as a teen supper club singer and dancer in Chicago. This made Nichols a true quadruple threat — she was a singer, actor, dancer, and model. It was only a matter of time before she would be noticed. After years on the circuit as a supper club singer and dancer, she began going on acting auditions.

She starred in small roles in both tv and films, before her big break came when she was given a starring role on Star Trek, she can be seen debuting her character n the 1963 episode of “The Lieutenant”.

When “Star Trek” started in 1996, she was the first black women appeared in a major TV series. While it might have been a time for change in the industry it was still a small one. Having Nichols on this show was monumental in showing those in the black community that there was a place for them on television and someone representing them as a powerful and strong woman.

Never one to shy away, she became famous for a scene that went down in history as not only one of the best kisses on television, but the first interracial kiss, when her character kissed James T. Kirk (William Shatner).

This was a defining moment that changed television forever. This kiss was more than just showing that people no matter what they look like could fall in love and be together — this was a moment where she moved the compass a little further to the left showing people that all women (and yes black women) have a voice, no what they want, and go after it. She was something to truly be admired.

Although she remains famous to this day for her role on Star Trek, she did appear in numerous roles over the course of her career. She was on Peyton’s Place, Head of The Class, and Heroes. But her real legacy had to be the role of Uhura and almost the entire film career she somehow was connected with it. She voiced her character in the animated episodes in the early 1970s, then played Uhura in six feature length films.

Additionally, she voiced the character in the animated but super popular series “Futurama”. Let us note forget, she was also nominated for an Emmy for her guest role in TV series “The Young and the Daring”.

Nichols turned heads again in 1977, when she announced she would be working with the Space Administration and National Aeronautics as a co-founder. Space became more than just a character for her and she really wanted to spend time exploring it, learning about it, and educating others. The program allowed for her to become an ambassador speaking all around the country. Her goal was to give more women and more diverse women a change to enter the space arena — and she did just that. She helped the organization hire more females and minority candidates for their training program that ever before.

What more can you say about Nichols? She was an inspiration for fans through her acting, but a champion for the underrepresented. She stood strong with her morals, was never scared of a little controversy, and was always willing to stand up for things she believed in. She spent years working with NASA to make sure she was able to follow through and support those who wanted to fulfill their dreams.

She will be missed for her work, her realignment of preconceived notions, and her tenacity. She is someone that helped more people than she will ever know. While there are no words to thank for these tremendous contribution she made to the world, and she’ll be in our hearts and mind forever and ever.

So thank you to Nichols for all of the work you put into the world, all of the good you did, and the legacy you leave behind for the rest of us to watch over and over. As fellow Trekkie’s would say — “Live Long and Prosper,” and you certainly have.

John Landgraf’s Peak TV Prediction: 2022 Will Have Most Series Ever

He’s been wrong before — he once said 2015 might be the peak. But Landgraf has numbers that back up 2022’s record-breaking status.

Last year set a record for the number of scripted original series for adults, but the “Peak TV” era probably hasn’t peaked just yet, at least if you ask FX Chairman John Landgraf. (As the television executive who coined the term, Landgraf would be a good person to ask. Then again, he’s made this claim before.)

During an executive session at the Television Critics Association press tour Tuesday, the FX brand’s boss offered some tea-leaf reading about the seemingly never-ending output of more and more TV shows. “2022 will be the high watermark — in other words, that it will mark the peak of the ‘Peak TV’ era,” he said.

Landgraf has been wrong before, and he’s the first to admit that his prediction might be done “foolishly.” But he has data on his side, courtesy of the number-crunchers at FX research.

The first half of 2022 saw 357 scripted series launch across broadcast, cable, and streaming. That’s up 16 percent compared to the same time last year. And last year’s 559 shows set an all-time record, up 13 percent from the COVID-fueled decline in 2020 and up 23 percent from five years earlier.

“Due to the pandemic, getting a true read on where scripted-series output might hit its top has been hard,” Landgraf said. “This year we’ve seen a tidal wave of scripted programming thanks to the bottleneck of COVID-delayed production finally clearing up.”

Back in 2015, speaking to the same audience of TV critics and reporters, Landgraf predicted that the number of scripted series would hit its peak in 2015 or 2016. He amended that the following year when he said he expected the peak to hit in 2019 followed by a decline the next year, when he bemoaned that there was “simply too much television” and warned of “oversupply” and the negative impact of tech monopolies on creativity.

So much has changed since then, including Landgraf’s tenor. Tuesday’s forecast came with no warnings or caveats; he painted it as “sticking my neck out” for some fun. Now, Landgraf’s employer Disney is one of the top streaming players and is tens of millions of subscribers ahead of its legacy competitors.

Disney has 205 million total subscribers across its streaming services, compared to leader Netflix’s 220.67 million subscribers. HBO and HBO Max have 76.8 million subscribers, Paramount has 62 million across its platforms, and Peacock has 28 million monthly active accounts.

“I think all of the major streaming services have now launched, right?” Landgraf said. “I think that process is complete. So in other words, I don’t see new, major purveyors of programming entering the scene as they have been, continuously, over the past decade or more. As a matter of fact, there are some prior purveyors of television programming that are kind of exiting the scene. So in other words, you’re at the point now where you’re not really adding suppliers, though you are, to some extent, subtracting suppliers.”

Streamers have started to cool off from earlier content-spending frenzies. Netflix is instituting belt-tightening after two consecutive quarters of subscriber losses. And Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav says he’s unwilling to overspend just to amass more subscribers.

Landgraf, who previously oversaw FX Networks, now finds himself shepherding original programming under the FX brand, content that premieres either on FX, FXX, or Hulu. “The FX original programming initiative has made a successful transition from primarily feeding linear cable channels to reconstituting itself as a multi-platform brand whose comprehensive streaming home in the U.S. is Hulu,” he said.

Time will tell if Landgraf finally got his Peak TV prediction correct. “It will take a year-and-a-half to find out if I’m right this time or I’ll have to eat crow yet again,” he said.

Luke Bryan’s ‘Country On’ – Billboard

“Hey, hey, U.S.A./ We ain’t seen our better days.”

In a divisive era with many Americans skeptical about the future of the democracy, Luke Bryan’s new single, “Country On,” is a timely elixir, a four-minute reminder of the nation’s proud middle class, its work ethic and the sense of community that comes from simply doing what they do.

“When I’m onstage, and when I’m singing ‘Most People Are Good,’ I feel that most people are still that, and I feel like most Americans really support the American dream,” Bryan says. “There’s a lot of forces out there really trying to interrupt that, but the day that we wake up and feel like the United States can’t have better days, I think the whole spirit of the country is lost.”

“Country On” experienced quite an evolution to become a blue-collar anthem. When singer-songwriter Styles Haury first proposed the idea during a 90-minute phone call with songwriter Mitch Oglesby in summer 2021, the title was “Hillbilly On,” as in “She loves it when I get my hillbilly on.”

“It got kicked around until it was ‘Country On,’” recalls Haury. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, like ‘carry on.’ And dude, that’s a huge post-COVID-19 thing, with all the craziness that’s going on in the world.”

“Finding that angle,” Oglesby adds, “really made the song what it is. It gave us avenues to say something.”

What that something would be didn’t become fully clear for another month or so. Oglesby had a September writing appointment in the basement of Nashville’s MV2 Entertainment with David Frasier (“Most People Are Good,” “Drinking Class”) and Mark Nesler (“Just to See You Smile,” “You Look Good in My Shirt”), and they batted around titles for a bit without finding one that got them excited. Oglesby offered up “Country On,” and his co-writers caught the value in its “carry on” connotation.

“We all need a pep talk,” says Nesler. “People that go unappreciated many times are really needing somebody to pat them on the back. What better way to say it than ‘Country On’?”

Oglesby cautioned that Haury was already involved and should be part of the process, though the song was mostly completed that day. “We didn’t know we’d finish it in a couple of hours,” Oglesby says. “That’s the thing about a great idea: The better the idea, the easier the song is to write.”

Nesler started playing a three-chord country progression with Southern rock overtones on acoustic guitar, and he hummed a passage that led naturally to the phrase “Country on.” “The melody that I was messing with enabled us to say the hook within the first 15 seconds or so of the song,” he explains. “We’d just write a bunch of these little verses and change it each time to a different person and their occupation.”

Oglesby found the first of those people at the rodeo — “Hey, cowboy, keep slinging that rope” — inserting him into the first spot in the chorus. After that, they carved out the jobs in order from the beginning — farmer, truck driver, bartender, fireman and soldier — instructing each of those blue-collar workers to “country on.” “The song,” notes Haury, “is a tip of the hat to the backbone of America.”

The list is hardly complete: It misses auto mechanics, construction workers, waiters, bus drivers and — hello! — music journalists. “We wish we could have had room to [add] nurses and doctors,” Frasier observes. “There’s a lot of people that didn’t get in that list, but I hope they still feel it the way we did.”

For the final stanza, they widened the focus from individuals to the Nashville music community, and then Frasier expanded further — “Hey, hey, U.S.A./ We ain’t seen our better days” — leading a cheer for a nation struggling to regain its direction and its optimism.

“I look at the world right now, and I go, ‘Are we leaving this place better like every generation had hoped to?’” says Frasier. “I’m afraid my answer is ‘No, we’re not.’ But even the next generation can live up to the line, ‘We ain’t seen our better days,’ and it may be up to them to bring that around. But I’ve got to believe that. That’s what gets you up and down the road every day.”

Nesler finished the demo later, making a slight change in the chorus melodies to provide some separation from the similarly structured verses. Oglesby made a demo as well, though Nesler sent his to producer Jeff Stevens around November. And it made quite the impression. “My heart filled with hope and pride for our country,” Stevens says. “And I don’t care how corny that sounds. I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing.”

He forwarded the “Country On” demo to Bryan, who had Stevens immediately place it on hold. Bryan responded to both the song’s sentiment and the title. “It’s a very uniting term, like about the Boston Marathon and you saw those shirts, with people uniting around ‘Boston Strong,’ ” he remembers. “I think ‘Country On’ is kind of that same emotion.”

They held on to the song until May, when Bryan started recording again at Nashville’s Ocean Way. But days before the session, Stevens reached back out to the songwriters to tweak it. He wanted to add another half verse, setting up a guitar solo and allowing them to repeat the “Hey, hey, U.S.A.” section a second time. He made that request with trepidation, recognizing that the update might harm their affection for “Country On.”

“All this stuff is like balancing a basketball on the head of a pin,” reasons Stevens. “You could mess it up.”

Oglesby and Frasier added much of the new half verse, focusing on the most important job — parenting — with a shoutout to “Hey, Mom and Dad.” Eventually, “Hey, hometown” sang better; Nesler revised the demo, and Bryan was still on board with it. At the session, he told the musicians to think of “Country On” as a modern-day version of Alabama’s “Forty Hour Week (For a Livin’)” or “Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler).”

The biggest challenge during the session was the electric guitar sound. Justin Ostrander and Kenny Greenberg both added parts, creating some heaviness without detracting attention from Bryan’s vocal. Ultimately, Ostrander played three guitar chords at the outset, leading into Ilya Toshinsky’s acoustic part. “There’s no signature licks, and the turnaround — after the actual lyric of the song — is being played on acoustic guitar, which is kind of unusual,” co-producer Jody Stevens notes.

Jenee Fleenor added a little extra punch later, and Sarah Buxton provided a female counterbalance to Perry Coleman’s harmonies. She ended up giving extra power to the closing vamp.

“Country On” won out over several other contenders as a single. Bryan was thinking of releasing it in August, but Capitol Nashville wanted to get it out around Independence Day, issuing it to country radio via PlayMPE on July 1. Bryan debuted it in concert in Virginia Beach, Va. — an area with several military bases — and the “Hey, hey, U.S.A.” line elicited the desired response. “It does all the right magical stuff,” he says.

“Country On” lifts No. 26-22 on the Country Airplay chart dated Aug. 6, and Bryan hopes it ends up helping America reclaim some of its classic spirit.

“The beauty of this country is we can openly talk about what’s wrong,” he says. “It’s never easy, but through that, hopefully, we can make the country better, and therefore, we ain’t seen our better days.”

“Where the Crawdads Sing” Review: Resilience, Independence, and The Shocking Twist

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Directed by Olivia Newman and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith, and Harris Dickinson, Where the Crawdads Sing is a coming-of-age mystery/thriller, along with a romantic storyline for the main character, Kya. The movie opens with two young boys on bicycles, who stumble upon the body of a man near the fire tower in the North Carolina marsh. The narrative is told through flashback scenes, with the murder trial taking place in 1969.

Courtesy of Sony Pictures

After growing up in a home full of alcoholism and neglect, the reclusive Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones) has learned that you cannot trust anyone. She has been “othered” by the town of Barkley Cove, North Carolina, as the residents have called her the “Marsh Girl” since she was abandoned by her family and left to raise herself. She took interest in the flora and fauna of the marsh; she possessed a talent for life-like illustration, so she drew what she could see around her. Offering a feather as a gift, Tate (Taylor John Smith) comes along and befriends her. Over time they grow closer and when she is in her late teens, he teaches her how to read,  and they start to fall for each other. He encourages her to contact publishers about writing and illustrating a book before he leaves for college.

Courtesy of Sony Pictures

After Tate leaves for college, Kya meets Chase (Harris Dickinson), who is one of the former quarterbacks for Barkley Cove and a beloved resident of the town. Chase takes interest in her and takes her on a picnic; he tries to advance their relationship without considering Kya’s feelings but she gives him a chance. They develop a romantic connection, and he talks of marrying her and being in love with her, and she gives him a seashell necklace as a token of her affection. Despite spending so much time with her, he never introduces her to family or friends, nor does he try to integrate her into his life outside the marsh.

Kya eventually finds out that Chase is engaged, and she immediately severs their relationship, which upsets Chase to the point where he finds her in the marsh and rapes her as she fights him off and escapes. Kya becomes closed off again because of this horrid violation, and when Tate returns to town, she is initially upset with him for not returning on the Fourth of July like he promised, and they soon rekindle their romance. Tate and Chase fight, and while Kya is planning a trip to meet with publishers in South Carolina, Chase is murdered.

During the trial, it is mentioned that the seashell necklace was not on Chase’s body when he was found. Since Kya seemed to have a perfect alibi, she was deemed to be innocent. She and Tate decide to get married, Kya writes and illustrates several books, and they live happily ever after… until just after Kya dies of old age and Tate discovers the seashell hidden in one of her books, confirming that Kya was the one who shoved Chase off of the fire tower to meet his end, decades before Tate discovered the shell.

Two main themes in this movie are resilience and independence, as we see Kya develop and show resilience despite the trauma that she endured as a child and later as an older teen/adult, and the blossoming independence that Kya slowly embraces while meeting new people and letting them into her world. She had to be independent to survive, and she maintained that independence while interacting with the environment and forming relationships with the people who reach out to her.

Where this film lacks true suspense and the major conclusions are rushed, the cinematography, natural beauty of the filming location, and quality of performance were the highlights in the film. Kya’s character is well-developed, yet the timeline feels a bit jumbled because the script switches back and forth from the past to the trial a few too many times to make it easy to follow, and the other characters were not as dynamic as they could have been.  Beyond a few key personality traits and important interactions, Tate, Chase, Kya’s family, and several of the other character seemed to lack the substance needed to balance out Kya’s strong character. It was entertaining though, and I appreciated Edgar-Jones’ performance in this film. It was emotionally captivating and presented all-too-common societal issues that are relatable in the present as well as the past.

Jeremy Corbyn condemns UK decision to send weapons to Ukraine

Jeremy Corbyn has criticised the UK’s decision to send military aid to Ukraine, accusing the West of ‘prolonging and exaggerating’ Russia’s war.

The ex-Labour leader, who infamously refused to blame Russia for the Salisbury poisoning in 2018, said leaders should instead force a peace deal between the pair – turning to the African Union and Arab League, including Syria, for mediation.

He also bemoaned the fact that ‘Ukrainians are dying… and Russian soldiers are dying’ in an interview with a pro-Assad TV channel, whilst condemning NATO expansion for causing ‘greater strain and greater stress.’

Refusing to point finger at Putin for Salisbury poisonings, he said: ‘If we are going to make a very, very clear assertion like that we have got to have the absolute evidence to do it. A recent poll showed 61 per cent of Ukrainians are against ending the war until all territory occupied by Russia, including Crimea, is back under their control.

There is also a broad consensus between experts and analysts that striking a deal now would favour Moscow, allowing Putin to ‘freeze’ the war while rearming and reinforcing before restarting it at a time of his choosing – as he did in 2014.

But speaking to Al Mayadeen, a pro-Assad TV station based in Lebanon – which is controlled by Iran-backed proxy group Hezbollah – Corbyn argued the opposite.

He said: ‘What I find disappointing is that hardly any of the world’s leaders use the word “peace”, they always use the language of more war and more bellicose war

‘Ukrainians are dying and Ukrainians have gone into exile, thousands and thousands of them. And Russian soldiers are dying, conscripted young Russian soldiers are dying… Therefore there has to be more, much more, effort put into peace.’

Corbyn did say he ‘disagrees’ with the Russian invasion, but then parroted a Kremlin talking-point by adding that arming Ukraine will ‘prolong and exaggerate’ the war.

Meanwhile, he praised UN chief Antonio Guterres for travelling to Moscow to meet with Putin, insisting the global body should be at the forefront of negotiating peace.

If the UN cannot help, Corbyn suggested, then the African Union or Arab League – which includes Syria – should mediate because they ‘have no direct economic interest one way or the other’.

In fact, Russia has arms-dealing agreements with dozens of African nations from whom it also imports natural resources.

Moscow also has troops and paramilitaries stationed across the Middle East.

Ending the war would also allow Russian gas to start flowing into Europe once again, Corbyn added, suggesting that Germany ‘cannot survive’ without it.

Tobias Ellwood, chairman of the defence select committee and a former defence minister, told The Telegraph: ‘[Corbyn] is illustrating yet again why he would have been such an inappropriate prime minister for the nation.

‘He doesn’t understand that the geopolitical consequences of supporting democracy occasionally means using hard power.

‘This is deeply irresponsible for a senior politician. I hope his comments are not seen to undermine the wider support for, and the commitment to, supporting Ukraine following this unprovoked invasion by Putin.’

Corbyn currently sits in parliament as an independent MP after having the whip withdrawn by Labour because he said anti-Semitism in the party had been overstated for political reasons.

He was also kicked out of the party, though he was reinstated by the membership.

Al Mayadeen was established in 2012 by journalists and executives from Al-Jazeera and Al Arabiya, some of whom were upset by their criticism of Syria’s rulers.

Britain has been one of the largest providers of military aid to Ukraine, having stepped up to provide anti-tank launchers even before Putin ordered his invasion.

Kyiv said the weapons proved invaluable at destroying convoys of tanks and trucks headed towards the capital in the early days of the war.

Britain has also provided valuable anti-air defences to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian jets and cruise missiles, anti-ship rockets to guard the coast, and long-range rocket artillery to blow up ammo dumps and command posts.

Russia is currently five months into what was supposed to be a days-long war in Ukraine, with its main offensive largely stalled.

Kyiv’s men are now trying to reverse some of the territorial gains Putin’s men have made since late February, and are targeting the southern city of Kherson.

President Zelensky has acknowledged the ultimate need for a peace deal, but says it will be up to the Ukrainian people to chose when and on what terms the war stops.

‘We have no right to do this… this land belongs to Ukrainian people,’ he said in a recent interview.

Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president, said recently that peace will ‘be on our terms’ – without spelling out exactly what that means.

Before the war, Moscow had been demanding that Ukraine agree never to join NATO, cede territory in its eastern Donbas, and that the alliance should withdraw all forces from ex-Soviet states – terms categorically ruled out by allies and the US.

Ben Affleck to Return as Batman in Upcoming Aquaman Sequel

With the upcoming release of The Flash next year, among the many controversial aspects of the film, and DC/Warner Bros,(from the controversies of Ezra Miller, the seeming lack of Henry Cavill’s Superman, etc.) one of the most notable aspects that has drawn the most attention were reports that it would be Ben Affleck’s last major performance as the Caped Crusader, and that he would be replaced by Michael Keaton, returning from Batman(1989) and Batman Returns, taking his place as the DCEU’s Batman in Affleck’s stead.

In his DCEU debut film Batman V Superman : Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck’s performance was positively received, despite the darker characterization of the iconic hero receiving mixed reviews.  While the Ultimate Edition added in many scenes which better explained the actions the character took, it wasn’t enough to save reception of the character by the time of the theatrical cut of Justice League in 2017.  Given that films notorious behind the scenes issues, it didn’t come as a huge surprise when reports suggested that Affleck wished to be done with the DCEU.  Even after the release of the superior Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which to many people redeemed Affleck’s portrayal, given the character’s journey of attoning for his mistakes in Batman V Superman, it had been believed that Affleck was done with the role.  In a way, it’s not too different from what happened with Andrew Garfield’s iteration of the iconic Marvel web-slinger, which to many was redeemed with 2021’s Spider-Man : No Way Home.

Courtesy of Warner Bros.

Hence, for many, it came as a surprise when it was confirmed that Ben Affleck would return for some additional scenes to be included in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.  That said, it’s not expected for him to have too major a role in the film, given the majority of the movie has already been filmed.  Still, for fans hoping to see more of Affleck in some capacity, it comes as a minor win.

As for what this means for the future of the DCEU, it’s frankly uncertain.  On top of the many controversies surrounding certain stars like Amber Heard and Ezra Miller, fans eagerly await for information regarding whether or not Henry Cavill will return as Superman, especially after an incident at SDCC when Dwayne Johnson was booed by the crowd after being unable to answer whether or not he’d face said Cavill’s iteration of the character.  The popular wrestler has indicated that he wishes to face of against the Man of Steel, Cavill’s iteration in particular, at some point, and as it stands, it seems as though the DCEU is setting this character up to be an important figure moving forward, in particular hinting towards a showdown with Shazam in the future.

Regardless, even if Affleck won’t be appearing for much longer, the fact that the character will have a bit more screen time before being sent off will be a welcome sight for fans.

Elliott Management Reveals Pinterest Stake, Says It Will Push For Changes – The Hollywood Reporter

The social photo platform Pinterest got a new CEO a month ago, and now it has a new largest shareholder.

Elliott Management, the investment firm known for its activism, disclosed on Monday that it is now the company’s largest individual shareholder, citing its “highly strategic business with significant potential for growth.”

Pinterest shares soared more than 12 percent when the market opened Tuesday on the news.

In a statement, Elliott executives Jesse Cohn and Marc Steinberg suggested that it had thrown its full support behind Bill Ready, who joined the company at the end of June, with co-founder and CEO Ben Silbermann moving to an executive chairman role.

“As the market-leading platform at the intersection of social media, search and commerce, Pinterest occupies a unique position in the advertising and shopping ecosystems, and CEO Bill Ready is the right leader to oversee Pinterest’s next phase of growth,” the statement said, adding that Elliott would continue to work with the executive team “as they drive toward realizing Pinterest’s full potential.”

Elliott has long been active in the media and tech sector. The firm is in the process of trying to take the media measurement giant Nielsen private in a $16 billion deal.

Previously, the company went hostile on Twitter, forcing changes to the company’s board after threatening to oppose Jack Dorsey as CEO. Elliott also went hostile with AT&T, ultimately convincing executives there to reevaluate their holdings (AT&T subsequently spun out both DirecTV and WarnerMedia). It also previously sparred with Universal over a financing deal.

The statement on Pinterest suggests that the firm has been privately engaging with the company for some time, and may have helped spur on the CEO shakeup.

King Princess: Hold On Baby Album Review

Cheap Queen, the debut album by King Princess, played like one of those summer nights that stretches on forever. Across a series of louche, Mellotron-heavy ballads, the New York songwriter and producer born Mikaela Straus sang about shooting the shit with friends and exchanging furtive glances with girls across crowded parties, each scene rendered with the insouciant, reflexive cool of an Eve Babitz story. It was a debut whose supreme confidence belied the fact that Straus first became famous after their Patricia Highsmith-referencing debut single “1950” went viral in early 2018. Where so many musicians react to virality with hesitance—quickly shifting gears or denouncing their early work—Straus delivered on her early promise with the grace and mien of a star.

Like Cheap Queen, Straus’ second record Hold On Baby is urbane and self-possessed, the work of a keen-eared musician coming into their own as a producer and stylist. She sounds even more like herself: More flexible as a vocalist, more cutting as a lyricist, more confident in her own power to bridge gaps between disparate styles. If Cheap Queen’s palette was ambiguously vintage—all old-school soul flourishes, redone as to slot in easily somewhere between Troye Sivan and Lorde—Hold On Baby firmly positions Straus as someone who came of age in the 2010s, when indie rock was hitting its mainstream peak.

Working alongside a murderers’ row of mainstream-indie heavy hitters including Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Ethan Gruska, Shawn Everett, and Mark Ronson, Straus pulls influences liberally but never thoughtlessly: A Strokes-y guitar line lopes through “Cursed,” while “Crowbar” nods to Sufjan Stevens’ fluttering piano ballads; the piano at the beginning of “Dotted Lines” recalls Rostam Batmanglij and Ariel Rechtshaid’s work on Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampires of the City, and “Sex Shop” feels of a piece with the alienated sexuality of St. Vincent’s Strange Mercy. These references never feel winky or obvious, in large part because Straus’ own sense of mood—their fondness for warm tones and spacious atmospherics that can turn cold and claustrophobic in a second—always takes precedence. She presides over the affair with a cool hand and a keen awareness of when to pull back—the restrained elegance of someone who’s spent most of their life hanging around studios.

Hold On Baby is a more solemn record than its predecessor. The energizing frisson that Straus found on Cheap Queen has been supplanted by anxiety and despondence. Hold On Baby isn’t a breakup album; instead Straus finds inspiration in the tensions that arise in a long-term relationship. On “Hold On Baby Interlude,” they describe themselves as “a chipped tooth with the nerve exposed,” and that queasy tension pervades the album. The plush, weightless love song “Winter Is Hopeful” curdles its sweet nothings (“I’m always thinking, thinking, thinking of you”) with ribbons of acid: “But you never believe it.” Straus practically whispers the lyrics; it feels like she’s practicing lines from across the room rather than actually addressing the object of her desire. “Change the Locks,” one of a handful of songs produced with Aaron Dessner, explodes from pleading minimalism into booming, gritted-teeth arena rock, even though one of its primary tensions is impossibly small: “Losing your mind over something I wore/Just ’cause it’s yours.”

‘White Noise’ to Open the New York Film Festival

“White Noise,” the latest project from the director and screenwriter Noah Baumbach, will be the opening-night film of the 60th New York Film Festival, organizers announced Tuesday.

The festival, which runs Sept. 30 to Oct. 16, will be holding the North American premiere of the film; its world premiere will open the 79th Venice Film Festival later this month.

Baumbach directed the film and adapted the screenplay from Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel of the same name, which won the American Book Award for fiction that year and focuses on themes of American family life amid repetitive and overwhelming reminders of death.

The film follows a college professor and his family as they are forced to evacuate their home because of an industrial accident. From there, they must cope with the unavoidable and unrelenting reminders of death as stories of sudden fatalities, school evacuations and toxic waste disasters fill the airwaves.

“White Noise” stars Adam Driver as Jack Gladney, a “Hitler studies” professor and father of four. Greta Gerwig plays Babette, Gladney’s wife. Other cast members include Don Cheadle, Jodie Turner-Smith, Sam Nivola and Raffey Cassidy.

This is Baumbach’s latest collaboration with Gerwig, his partner. They have co-written several movies, including “Frances Ha” (2012) and “Mistress America” (2015), both of which he directed, and “Barbie,” which she is directing and which is set for release in 2023.

Baumbach’s other credits include “The Squid and the Whale” and “Marriage Story,” which both earned him Academy Award screenplay nominations.

In a statement, Baumbach explained that as a child he attended the New York Film Festival with his father and later premiered his first movie, “Kicking and Screaming,” there in 1995. Other Baumbach films have been chosen for the event’s Main Slate over the years, but “White Noise” is the first of his productions to open the festival.

Following the premiere, the movie will be available for streaming on Netflix later in 2022.

Netflix Ads During An Ad Market Slump Could Be a Holy Grail

If streamers can give advertisers more of what they want, it could provide a serious edge in a very crowded market.

Last week Meta reported its first-ever revenue slide, Alphabet revealed YouTube’s growth has slowed to a snail’s pace, and Roku lost about one-quarter of its shareholder value. All the corporations pointed to a declining advertising market as brands scale back spending in the face of inflation, interest rate hikes, and fears of an upcoming recession. If Netflix and Disney were looking to get into the ad business — and they are — it looks like this would not be the time to do it.

“We seem to have entered an economic downturn that will have a broad impact on the digital advertising business,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the company’s Q2 earnings call Wednesday.

Disney and Netflix are betting big on introducing ads to their flagship services. They’ve got an edge with broad reach and premium content, but in a soft market they need to give advertisers something better than what they have now — namely, returns on investment and the ability to precisely target users. Programmatic advertising exec Curt Larson said that’s exactly what the streamers could offer.

Related

Related

“[Connected TV] is a supply-constrained market,” said Larson, who serves as chief product officer at Sharethrough. “There are more advertisers that want to buy ads on CTV than there is quality supply. While there may be a softening in the ads market, I don’t think that’s a dramatic impact for someone like Netflix — Netflix is going to be such a premium, desirable spot for advertisers to run their ads, assuming they come up with a decent ads product.”

A July report from MoffettNathanson found Netflix could generate $1.2 billion in U.S. advertising revenue by 2025, with the future potential to generate the highest average revenue per user. Wells Fargo estimated that global figure could exceed $7 billion in 2025 and account for 15 percent of Netflix total revenue.

Netflix’s plan to introduce a cheaper, ad-supported tier in early 2023 comes with the understanding that it needs to be great. It partnered with Microsoft, which is using the Netflix partnership to expand their existing services in the ad space into video.

“When you look at the scale that we are offering, the technical DNA, the partners that we’ve got lined up, I’m pretty optimistic that over a couple of years, we can deliver an experience which is fundamentally different from the ad experience on linear,” Netflix COO Greg Peters said during Netflix’s Q2 earnings video on July 19.

Netflix could set itself apart in the ad marketplace is with more precise targeting (all that user data) and better measurement for higher ROI. Increasingly, streaming services rely on things like QR codes and prompting users to click and send themselves an email to directly tie the ad to their behavior (like buying the product).

“Imagine you see an ad and it says ‘click OK to shop this product, or learn more,’ you click OK on your remote and you get a push notification to your phone right through the Netflix app,” Larson said. “If they can create an experience that allows consumers to action on the ad and measure whether the action actually happened, that’s kind of one of the holy grails on CTV right now, but it’s not very widely available.”

The chance to become the advertisers’ sacred treasure is an opportunity that streamers need. Netflix lost over 1 million net subscribers this year and Comcast reported on its July 28 earnings call that Peacock added no paid subscribers and lost 1 million monthly active accounts compared to Q1. Overall, NBCUniversal’s ad revenue dropped 1 percent last quarter compared to the same period last year.

This May marked the first year that YouTube participated in the Upfronts week in New York, pitching their woo to advertisers alongside legacy media companies like Disney and NBCUniversal. On YouTube’s blog, its director of global advertiser marketing crowed that “the digital and linear TV worlds are converging.” Another way to look at it: Traditional networks, social-media companies, and streamers now fight for the same limited pool of user and advertiser attention.

What to Watch

How To Watch The DC Movies In Order

While superhero movies based on DC Comics have existed for decades, the blockbusters have been doing things very differently in more recent years. In 2013, Warner Bros. released Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel and, with it, launched the DC Extended Universe – an expansive continuity that sees some of the greatest superheroes ever created (including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the entire Justice League) occupying a single world. The DCEU canon continues to expand with new superhero movies coming out every year, and while that’s a great thing for fans, it can also be a bit tricky for newcomers trying to get a grip on things.

If you’re flustered about how to get into the movies of the DC Extended Universe, we’ve got you covered. There are a couple of different ways to watch the newest DC movies in order, including by release date order and in chronological order, and we’ve built this feature to illustrate how to go about doing both. Your methodology should differ based on your experience with the various titles and characters, so we’ll start with the proper order if you’re brand new to the whole world.

DC Movies In Order By Release Date

When a franchise is first coming together, a studio makes calculated choices regarding what stories are told and when and the DC Extended Universe is no exception. Running from 2013 until the present, the continuity now features a total of ten movies (eleven, if you include Zack Snyder’s Justice League), and you can watch them in the order in which they came out by following the list below:

  • Man of Steel (2013)
  • Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
  • Suicide Squad (2016)
  • Wonder Woman (2017)
  • Justice League (2017)
  • Aquaman (2018)
  • Shazam! (2019)
  • Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020)
  • Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
  • Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)
  • The Suicide Squad (2021)

DC Movies In Chronological Order

If you’re well-versed in the canon of the DC Extended Universe and are simply looking for a new way to engage with the storytelling, a chronological viewing is definitely an option, as not all of the blockbusters take place in the order in which they were released. Moving from the past to the present, here is how to watch the DC movies as they take place across the franchise timeline.

Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman (Set in 1918)

Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman not only includes scenes that take place thousands of years before the main action of the DC Extended Universe, but its main plot is set in 1918. The film’s story is deeply tied to real world events, as Gal Gadot’s eponymous heroine — whose birth name is Diana — travels with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor from Themyscira to Man’s World right at the height of World War I, a conflict that Wonder Woman believes she can help resolve by defeating the villainous God of War, Ares.

Pedro Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984.

Wonder Woman 1984 (Set in 1984)

While Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 is set more than half a century after its predecessor, it is still the second film to watch while viewing the DC Extended Universe in chronological order. Set in its titular year, the movie is deeply ingrained in its setting, as the attitudes of greed and fear from the era are key to the developing plot, finding power-hungry entrepreneur Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) making a play for the Dreamstone so that he can grant wishes to people around the world and gain god-like influence. At one point, Lord joins forces with Diana’s co-worker, Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig), whose wish to be more like the royal warrior comes true, but with grave consequences.

Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel

Man Of Steel (Set in 2013)

Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel has some scenes set in the 1980s, as it is in that decade that Jonathan (Kevin Costner and Martha Kent (Diane Lane) discover a Kryptonian spaceship has crashed on their farm. Yet, the majority of the film takes place around the year that the movie was released – 2013. It is at this time that Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) begins to understand what his history as a Kryptonian means as he lives among humanity and faces down his first potentially world-ending threat in the form of General Zod (Michael Shannon).

Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (Set in 2016)

Keeping the continuity tight, Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is set right in the wake of Man Of Steel. The whole arc for Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) is a reaction to the destruction caused in the battle between Superman and Zod, creating a conflict between the two key male heroes of the DC Extended Universe. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) schemes to bring the monstrous Doomsday to life – ultimately leading to a battle that sees the Kryptonian hero risk his life.

Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag, Katana and Killer Croc in Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad (Set in 2016)

On the whole, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is a movie that plays around on the outskirts of the DC Extended Universe canon, with the titular group of convicts coming together to stop the out-of-control Enchantress (Cara Delevingne). However, there are hints and clues that provide tips regarding where it takes place in the timeline, and that place is between Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League. We know this because it’s specifically references the end of the previous movie, and there is a mid-credits scene featuring Bruce Wayne seeking metahuman information from Amanda Waller (Academy Award winner Viola Davis) that will aid his mission to form a superhero team.

2017's Justice League cast

Justice League (Set in 2017)

Having made peace with the idea of aliens and metahumans after the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Bruce Wayne follows up his meeting with Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad by putting a special group together, and that group is formed in 2017’s Justice League. Reuniting Batman with Wonder Woman, and introducing Barry “The Flash” Allen (Ezra Miller), Victor “Cyborg” Stone (Ray Fisher), and Arthur “Aquaman” Curry (Jason Momoa), the heroes have to work together to stop an invading alien force, led by the villainous Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds), from taking over the planet.

Jared Leto's Joker

Zack Snyder’s Justice League (Set in 2017)

Though it’s not technically considered canon, the R-rated HBO Max exclusive Zack Snyder’s Justice League can either be watched in lieu of the 2017 release, or with it for comparison purposes. It mostly functions as a four-hour version of the theatrical cut, with extra material that fills out the back story, builds out the new characters, and teases a direction for the future of a franchise that, for all intents and purposes, leads to a dead end.

Jason Momoa in Aquaman still from the first movie

Aquaman (Set in 2018)

James Wan’s Aquaman doesn’t really engage much with the plot from Justice League, but Mera (Amber Heard) does, at one point, remind the titular hero about his efforts helping to save the world from Steppenwolf, putting it directly after that story in the timeline. That being said, the story is very insular, mostly taking place underwater and seeing Arthur Curry find peace with the war within himself between land and sea on his journey to become the king of Atlantis.

Costumed Zachary Levi smirking in convenience store in Shazam!

Shazam! (Likely set in 2019)

Once again we have another DC Extended Universe movie that doesn’t have tight ties to the rest of the canon. Yet, David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! is definitely included, as evidenced by the sight of the Batarang owned by Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) and a cameo by Superman (played by a stand-in) in the final scene. It’s possible that the movie could take place before, during, or after the events of Aquaman, but watching it after in a chronological rewatch of the franchise is a safe bet.

The Birds of Prey cast

Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) (Likely set in 2020)

Cathy Yan’s Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) has what could be called a loose connection to the rest of the DC Extended Universe, as its only real link is Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad – but that’s enough to connect it to the canon. It’s technically possible that the events which take place in this movie occur at any point in time between the end of the David Ayer movie and the end of Shazam!, but when in doubt, it’s always best to just go by the release date.

The Suicide Squad charges in The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad (Set in 2021)

Not quite a sequel to the similarly-titled 2016 film and barely a reboot either, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad puts the members of Task Force X on an adventure more hilariously bizarre, morbidly cartoonish, and foul-mouthed than most other DCEU films. However, it still, very much, takes place in the continuity, as seen by the return of key characters like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn (recently jailed again for “road rage… in a bank”), Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang (for a bit). The film is also a direct lead-in to HBO Max’s John Cena-led Peacemaker series, which featured a hilarious Justice League cameo in the season finale.

Of course, the DC Extended Universe is a fluid thing and we have also already seen Warner Bros. begin releasing live-action films that divert away from the continuity with The Batman in 2022. However, the franchise is far from dead and we are still excited for the many upcoming DC movies set to debut in the next few years.

Trump Camp Claims ‘ERIC’ Endorsement Was Intentional Troll

On Monday evening, twice-impeached former president Donald Trump announced his endorsement for the Missouri GOP Senate campaign this year, giving it to a man named Eric. The problem is, the race is currently between two men both named Eric. Naturally, mockery ensued – but the Trump team is claiming it was simply “an epic troll.”

In his endorsement, Trump once again falsely claimed that he won the 2020 election, saying, “I trust the Great People of Missouri, on this one, to make up their own minds, much as they did when they gave me landslide victories in the 2016 and 2020 Elections, and I am therefore proud to announce that ERIC has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

The two frontrunners in the race are Eric Greitens and Eric Schmitt, who both gleefully embraced Trump’s vague endorsement.

To recap, Trump couldn’t decide whether to endorse Eric Greitens or Eric Schmitt in the Missouri Senate race, so he just endorses “ERIC” the night before the election. Now both are graciously thanking him for his sincere support. pic.twitter.com/voE4Z3myOk

— Natalie Allison (@natalie_allison) August 1, 2022

Now, Trump advisers have told NBC News that the opacity of the endorsement was intentional, meant to apparently cause infighting between Greitens and Schmitt themselves. “Instead of talking about Missouri, the Erics are debating what Trump’s endorsement means,” one adviser said. “Yes, it’s an epic troll.”

Meanwhile, Twitter users trolled Trump himself, as no one seems to believe even a little bit that his odd endorsement was intentional.

“Trump endorsing ‘Eric’ when there are two Erics in the race, and them both claiming the endorsement, is 1000% a Veep plot line,” one person tweeted. Another dubbed it “the most Eric thing to happen tbh.”

would like my non-Missouri friends to know that there are currently two different Erics running for senate who are both claiming to have Trump’s endorsement and technically do have it because he only endorsed ‘Eric’ without specifying further.

You can check out more people roasting Trump below.

Trump endorsed “Eric” in the GOP Missouri senate primary… where there two guys named Eric.

He no doubt wants to claim credit when “Eric” wins. But that also means the other Eric lost. You know, the Eric that Trump *actually* endorsed.

10 Useful Tips For An Effective Showreel

A good showreel is the perfect way to present yourself and your skills for whatever role you may be applying for!

One of the most important general characteristics is that it needs to stand out and also present your best work in an effective and straightforward way.

Here are a few tips that may help to make your showreel a really effective one and improve it for every situation:

1) Think about who is going to see it

Exactly like a CV, it’s always good to customize it in a personal way keeping the audience in mind. Who are the people who will watch it, what may they be looking for, what are they likely to prefer

2) Focus on the essential

Try to keep it short and effective, don’t play full scenes but edit them in a short and straight-to-the-point format. You don’t need to include all your work, focus on the best bits and the most recent ones.

3) Include a range and variation of work

Try not to limit yourself to just one type

4) Don’t save best for last

More often than not, a good first impression is all it takes! If the beginning of your showreel is not engaging, the possible recruiters will pass on the next one very quickly.

5) Look at others

Find examples and references and take inspiration from them for your own.

6) Ask a stranger

Ask someone that doesn’t really know your work to revise it, watch it and give you feedback

7) It may be necessary to adapt it to different platforms

Think about where are you going to upload your showreel, whether your own website or on social media, think about the aspect ratio.

8) Always keep it up to date

If necessary don’t just add new content but try and keep the editing and style relevant as well.

9) The look of the showreel has to mirror your skills

The final result of the showreel depends on what are you going for and also the level of your skills.

10) Include your contact detail

Both at the start and at the end of the showreel and remember to always keep them updated. You can also include your details wherever most visible depending on the platform of choice so recruiters don’t have to skip the video to know how to find you.

Choosing to include clips where your work and your style is most visible is always the best option, and if you don’t have enough footage from productions that you worked on, you could also film some for yourself on your smartphone.

Bonus tip ?

If you are starting new you could consider joining the HND acting and filmmaking course at Raindance Film School where you can not only study acting but will also learn how to make film and create your own showreel by the end.

I recently graduated in Film, Television and Media Studies at the Università di Bologna in Italy. Since 2016 I’ve been working and collaborating with many Italian film festivals. The Crypto Market Crashed. They’re Still Buying Bitcoin.

“If you call out someone’s risks they’re taking, and they’re otherwise healthy, you can be accused of creating a run on the bank or being a troll,” said Michael Saylor, the chief executive of MicroStrategy, a software company that has built up a large Bitcoin reserve. “It’s kind of hard to explain this theoretically before the crash happens. But now it’s happened.”

In 2020, Mr. Saylor announced that MicroStrategy would begin stockpiling Bitcoin because it had “more long-term appreciation potential than holding cash.” At the end of June, the company had 129,699 Bitcoin, bought for just under $4 billion, according to S.E.C. filings. (With Bitcoin’s recent drop in value, that stash is now worth roughly $1 billion less than what MicroStrategy paid for it.)

At the height of the crash, MicroStrategy spent $10 million on 480 Bitcoin, even as the price per coin dipped to about $20,000. The purchase was the smallest that MicroStrategy had made in more than a year. Mr. Saylor said the size of the purchase was not an indication that he lacked confidence in the currency; it was the most the company could afford, he said, given the cash it had available.

“I always wish we could buy more,” he said. “It’s frustrating.”

Mr. Saylor and other maxis have sometimes complained that Bitcoin is poorly represented in Washington, where lawmakers have expressed growing concern about the cryptocurrency’s environmental impact.

Some crypto advocacy work in Washington is funded by companies that offer virtual currencies built on an alternate verification system, which requires less energy to maintain. In April, Chris Larsen, a billionaire who co-founded the cryptocurrency company Ripple, announced that he was contributing $5 million to a marketing campaign calling on Bitcoin to abandon its energy-guzzling mining infrastructure, which proponents insist is vital to keeping the network secure and equitable.

Now, Bitcoin supporters are building their own political apparatus. This year, David Zell, a Bitcoin advocate, started the Bitcoin Policy Institute, a think tank that pushes a pro-Bitcoin agenda in Washington. The institute has argued that concerns over Bitcoin’s energy consumption are overblown.

‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6, Episode 11 Review: ‘Breaking Bad’ Lives

With plenty of questions left about where Season 6 might go, the series’ third-to-last episode is a dreamlike return to where one particular Albuquerque lawyer has been.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 6, Episode 11, “Breaking Bad.”]

“Better Call Saul” has been a six-season-long handshake between what’s given and what’s withheld. It’s baked into the DNA of the show, the idea that certain events are foregone conclusions. Even the mysteries have a fixed endpoint. With patience and care (much like what you need to hide a bag of cash next to a roadside gas station via some strategically placed fishing wire), time will fill the gaps.

With the conclusion of “Better Call Saul” just over the wintry Nebraska horizon, now comes the time for last-minute trades. It’s the zone where final fates hinge on a few words between an old boss and his former secretary. Their conversation may be the last word on the unsuspecting wife of a drug kingpin, of a possible ricin cigarette thief and a certain El Camino. That early payphone conversation is another possible answer to a question posed last week: Try as he might to deny it or ignore it or find solace in a rotating cycle of other women, the thing driving Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) is the promise of the ghost of Kim Wexler.

The possibility of their reunion takes as many hits as the phone hook this week. In its place comes a moment that’s fueled rumors even before “Better Call Saul” was ever in an official press release. Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston slip right back into Jesse and Walt, walking around the old RV with the same color-splashed ski masks the pair first wore on screen 13 years ago. It’s fitting that this show doesn’t reimagine some previously unseen rendezvous between these three characters. If anything, it gives as much context for “Breaking Bad” (the show) for the two series to be fully symbiotic, like a TV transcontinental railroad working from both coasts and meeting in the middle. Writer/Director Tom Schnauz — who expertly oversaw the midseason finale, too — fashions a Promontory point where bringing back Jesse and Walt is in service of the title character of the show they’ve phased into.

“Better Call Saul”

Greg Lewis/AMC/Sony Pictures Television

“Breaking Bad” (the episode) is the series’ ending batch starting to feel closer and closer to a death rattle fever dream. Not in terms of quality — the montage of floating drivers licenses dissolving perfectly into a gridded ceiling is right in line with this show’s proud tradition — but between the haywire Blue Screen of Death that doubles as the credits sequence now and the fractured memories starting to bleed together, it’s getting easier to imagine that this last stretch of Season 6 is one man’s life flashing before his eyes.

So it makes sense that the “Breaking Bad”-era moments we see here come nestled around a moment that Saul Goodman felt awfully close to death. (In one last stroke of titling genius related to Season 2, it’s recreating a moment from the episode titled, of course, “Better Call Saul.”) How else could this show come full circle than by revisiting Saul’s first name drops of Nacho and Lalo, one germ of an idea that helped birth this whole six-season project?

Beyond the careful reconstruction of the mobile lab or the sight of Jesse holding a flask or the later glimpse of that godforsaken Aztek, all of these nods to the past are in service of Saul’s future. Schnauz recognizes that, at this juncture, character is key: the extent to which Saul is a good judge of it and whether he himself has any left. It’s not an overly simple mirroring of circumstances, but at this crucial Takavic juncture, Saul meets another man with cancer and a younger cog in a criminal empire having second thoughts about his place in it.

This is a guy who, regardless of whether he’s Victor or Gene or James, sees himself as the star of his own story. He’s also the producer (remember the Howard scheme Post-It board) and the writer (last week’s meticulous Cornhuskers research) and the casting director (this week, trawling around town for finance bro doofuses to pick off as identity fraud targets). There’s a reason the name of the show is “Better Call Saul.” When Season 6 has presented him with plenty of reasons why he’s not the one in control, he’s tried his utmost to rewrite the conditions on his own terms. His wife gone, his money taken, and his garish creature comforts jettisoned into the back of a moving van, Saul is choosing not to take life’s “no”s for an answer. One other key reason for bringing back Jesse and Walt now (and gesturing vaguely to Gus, for that matter), is to serve as a reminder that choice never really worked out for any of them, either.

“Better Call Saul”

Giving the now-landlord Francesca (Tina Parker) this (presumed) goodbye is “Better Call Saul” also reiterating that Saul is never the sole victim of his own hubris. However willingly these stray people are drawn into the Goodman web of underhanded dealings, there’s only so much cooperation and evidence they can give to prosecutors before they have to start over themselves. As that door closes, Jeff (Pat Healy) is putting duct tape over the latch of the next one opening. In an episode with a literal open grave, Jeff’s smile still might be the most haunting example of how one man can pollute the unsuspecting. Another simultaneous end and beginning with Saul as the connector, an ouroboros of bad decisions that seems destined to keep devouring itself as long as Saul is alive and well.

Even if the show didn’t only have two more chapters left to unfurl, it would already feel like the end. Season 6 already outlined one ill-advised plan that went forward against all omens to the contrary. Like the Howard scheme, Operation Another Round starts off as justifiable as something like identity theft could conceivably be. Gene’s karaoke bar “chance encounter” with an effortlessly scummy barfly (Devin Ratray) casts this new gambit as a Robin Hood-style operation. If the comeuppance for lowlifes like the “Brandy” Appreciator can mean easier eventual access to cat videos for Marion (Carol Burnett), Saul doesn’t see himself as perpetrating a crime so much as redistributing wealth to non-scumbags. Meeting a reasonably well-adjusted mark (Kevin Sussman) who’s undergoing cancer treatment isn’t just a chance to set up the Jesse/Walt thematic rhyming. It’s making Saul confront the mortality of his conscience, too. Ending this episode “Breaking Bad” with a bad break-in feels like one last incremental violation, one last ethical push too far that may finish off Saul for good.

It’s a road paved at least in part by what happens in that phonebooth prior to Saul’s angry receiver smashing. Schnauz is cagey with that payphone call to a sprinkler company near the Florida Atlantic coast, covering up what we can hear with the sound of passing semis. Kim might be gone with no sign of where to look next. She might have picked up that call and insisted he leave her alone. She might already be in a city not all that far from the Kansas/Nebraska border, setting up an end-of-“Zodiac”-style meeting in a random public place. Whatever the reason, The Game is all that Saul — now an owner of the mustache he once freely derided — really has left. And it may well already be over, whether he realizes it or not.

Grade: A-

“Better Call Saul” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and is available on AMC+.

DirecTV Now Launch Having Lots Of Problems

Customers who signed up for the launch of AT&T’s DirecTV Now are experiencing difficulties with the service, judging by the complaints on Twitter. It seems like several are getting error messages at sign-in or are getting kicked off while watching. DirecTV Now is aware of the issues and seems to be addressing them. Still, a day after the launch, people are letting the company have it:

You get the idea. These are just a sample of the tweets from the last hour during which this article was written. Yesterday’s feed is full of similar complaints.

DirecTV Now is AT&T’s entry into the “cord cutting” world, where it offers traditional cable channels and some network programs over the web. Its launch has been a mess. It was slow to introduce which channels would be available when it announced the service just two days before launch. Now… this.

Sydney Sweeney Chopped Her Hair Into a Lob and Said Goodbye to the Middle Part—See Pic

Sydney Sweeney plays one of the main characters on Euphoria, a series that has ushered in many of Gen Z’s favorite beauty trends, but she may wind up ending another.

Okay, it’s really not that serious, but Gen Z did repopularize the middle part after years of dramatic side parts dominating the hair game—even Kate Middleton adjusted the way she parted her signature loose waves in 2022!

Now, after cutting her long blonde hair into a layered lob, Sweeney debuted her new look with her hair parted—*gasp!—*to the side. In the stunning photo, the actor wore a loose robe off her shoulders with a pink pouty lip. Overall, the vibe was very Marilyn Monroe. “????,” she captioned the pic.

Here’s what her hair looked like at a Red Sox game on July 22:

Sukollawat Kanarot & Pattrakorn Tungsupakul

ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke to Thirteen Lives stars Weir Sukollawat Kanarot and Pattrakorn “Ploy” Tungsupakul about their roles. Kanarot portrays the heroic Saman Kunan, who tragically passed away during the rescue, while Tungsupakul plays the mother of one of the missing boys. The Ron Howard-directed film is streaming on Prime Video on August 5.

“Thirteen Lives recounts the incredible true story of the tremendous global effort to rescue a Thai soccer team who become trapped in the Tham Luang cave during an unexpected rainstorm,” says the synopsis. “Faced with insurmountable odds, a team of the world’s most skilled and experienced divers – uniquely able to navigate the maze of flooded, narrow cave tunnels – join with Thai forces and more than 10,000 volunteers to attempt a harrowing rescue of the twelve boys and their coach. With impossibly high stakes and the entire world watching, the group embarks on their most challenging dive yet, showcasing the limitlessness of the human spirit in the process.”

Tyler Treese: Weir, you portray a really heroic Thai Navy SEAL who does everything he can to save these boys. It’s such a tragedy that happened, so what preparation went into this role?

Weir Sukollawat Kanarot: I’m lucky I have a diving certificate. [For] Saman, I just discussed directly with Ron about the character and the script. Saman, he was willing when more divers were needed and willing to rescue the boys.

Ploy, there’s just so much emotion in being a mother in this situation. What did you tap into for these moments to show both the fear of the situation and also the strength to stay hopeful?

I can relate that every one of us has a fear of losing someone we love and in that kind of situation, the only thing that we can be is to stay hopeful until we know the real result of the operation. Without a true understanding of the ending, we must stay hopeful. That is how I can relate my feelings with the parents of the kid, that that must be the strength of the parents throughout the whole operation.

Weir, you have so many great scenes inside the water. How difficult was it acting in those conditions?

Yeah, really, really difficult, but really beautiful. Because in the cave [there are] narrow passageways where it’s really dark and quite scary, but we have our professional safety team also help us during the shoot. The shooting went well. I had to hold my breath for about two minutes for the death scene.

How Big Casts Clog the Race – The Hollywood Reporter

One of the most frequent jokes that isn’t really a joke is that when it comes to various Hollywood movie and TV awards, industry folks like to vote for people they’ve worked with before.

Were that true, the legendarily interconnected Kevin Bacon would have all of the trophies. But among the nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, the acting fields are dominated by deep ensemble casts and, at the same time, other big ensembles feel like the biggest victims of these category-clogging juggernauts.

In our 500-plus show universe, in which six- to eight-episode limited series are in vogue and even most broadcast shows no longer produce 22 (or more) episodes per season, a star can be top-of-the-call-sheet on one project and a day player on another in the same year, giving some lucky shows five or 10 supporting performances from actors who, in a different era, wouldn’t have had the time or contractual availability for more than one television role.

Instead of capturing the landscape’s full range, Emmy voters opted to honor the widest possible number of actors from the smallest possible number of shows. On the comedy side, that means seven performance nominees from Ted Lasso and four for Abbott Elementary. On the drama side, Succession received two lead, five supporting and seven guest acting noms, putting it comfortably ahead of the well-represented casts of Squid Game and Severance. The limited/anthology fields are dominated by The White Lotus and Dopesick, which combined account for 13 of 14 supporting performances. The lone outlier? Future trivia answer Seth Rogen for Pam & Tommy.

Imagine being a star from one of these shows who didn’t get a nomination. That would include Brittany O’Grady and Fred Hechinger of The White Lotus, even if I could make the case that they have the most complete arcs in Mike White’s scathing comedy. For Succession, it almost feels like a meta joke that underestimated pieces of the Waystar RoyCo family like Karl (David Rasche), Frank (Peter Friedman) and Connor (Alan Ruck) were overlooked. Ted Lasso, meanwhile, gave a full episode to the late-night London odyssey of Coach Beard, only to see Brendan Hunt get shut out along with fellow 2021 nominee Jeremy Swift, though Toheeb Jimoh earned his placement for Sam’s eventful second season.

But for every ensemble carefully noticed by Emmy voters, there were inevitably a half-dozen ensembles that failed to register.

HBO and HBO Max had much to celebrate on Emmy nomination morning, but it’s hard not to feel like the haul could have been far larger. The Lakers-centric Winning Time boasted a cast led by the highly decorated likes of John C. Reilly, Adrien Brody, Tracy Letts and Sally Field, but despite a much publicized spring launch, its only nomination was for cinematography. Julian Fellowes’ The Gilded Age assembled a cast so loaded with Broadway’s elite that the multiple Tony winners nearly outnumber actors without a single Tony nom, yet its name was called only for production design.

The Staircase was honored for stars Colin Firth and Toni Collette, but not scene stealer Parker Posey, the reliably ethereal Juliette Binoche or a carefully selected array of young actors. Himesh Patel got a nomination for Station Eleven, but that love couldn’t extend to perfectly dual-cast Mackenzie Davis and Matilda Lawler or to the overall series, which was deemed less worthy than Inventing Anna, which saw only a miscategorized Julia Garner — so clearly supporting Anna Chlumsky’s protagonist that the TV Academy should have stepped in — get individual notice.

Amanda Seyfried was the only acting nominee for The Dropout, in which William H. Macy’s exaggerated latex forehead, Naveen Andrews’ unsettling love interest and Laurie Metcalf grouchily discussing Yoda and the presence of Ruck, patron saint of this year’s overlooked ensemble members, were among the snubbed. Apple TV+’s Pachinko found actors capable of speaking as many as three languages and several additional dialects. Nothing. Amazon’s As We See It broke representational barriers with its stars on the autism spectrum. Nothing. See also FX’s Reservation Dogs and its impeccable cast of Indigenous stars. Nothing.

None of the solutions feels exactly right to me. Cap the number of nominees or even submission candidates from any particular show? The number of nominees for Succession, Ted Lasso and The White Lotus is extreme, but they were all worthy. Render previous winners ineligible either the next year or in perpetuity? What if the person who keeps winning every year — say, as a pure hypothetical, Julia Louis-Dreyfus — actually deserves to win every year? Or do we just expand the number of nominees in each acting field? That’s probably the easiest recourse. If TV is where the most desirable work is, the Emmys should be honoring, not punishing, that embarrassment of riches.

Must-have music for your late-night summer drive playlist

With the month of August already here, making the final moments of summer count is essential. Whether jamming out with a group of friends or simply exploring the roads on your own, late-night drives are a great way to make the most out of those perfect summer nights.

With so many different artists and songs to choose from, finding music that best suits the tone of your summer night driving playlists is challenging, and if you’re anything like me, popular suggested songs and overplayed artists don’t make the search any easier.

Here are a few lesser-known and under-appreciated suggestions of must-have music to add to your late-night summer drive playlist.

  1. Bad Dream-Cannons

Nothing sets the tone for a night drive more than a song that makes you feel euphoric, and with this song on your playlist, you’ll no doubt be feeling blissful. The Indie pop band Cannonscame together in 2013 in Los Angeles, releasing their very first EP (Up All Night) a year later. Michelle Joy (lead vocalist) made her way into the group through a Craigslist job posting created by childhood friends Ryan Clapham (guitarist) and Paul Davis (Keyboardist), who had been searching for a singer that would tie up the band’s members.

Ironically their first ever album, released in 2017, was named Night Drive. You may recognize Cannons’ unique sound, as their song Fire For You appeared on the soundtrack of Netflix’s original series Never Have I ever.

“Bad Dream”, released in 2021, is a necessary addition to a late-night summer drive playlist; if you’re looking for a song that sets a chill and careless feel to your late-night cruises and makes you want to stick your hands out the window, this one is for you.

        2. Lifetime-Swedish House Mafia (Feat. Ty Dolla $ign & 070 Shake)

If you’re thinking of hitting the highway or the backroads for your night drives, this song is the one for you. Swedish House Mafia, known as a DJ supergroup formed in 2008, created a variety of popular hits such as “Save The World” and “Don’t You Worry Child.” More recently, the trio (Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso) came together to produce Moth To A Flame, one of the well-known artists, The Weeknd’s latest singles. They also created an album this year named Paradise Again, which included a variety of featured artists.

The song lifetime from their album Paradise Again is well worth a spot on your playlist. It features Ty Dolla $ign, and 070 Shake, who add to the song’s already energetic beat with catchy lyrics and signature vocals. “Lifetime” is a definite song choice if you want something to blast while merging onto the highway or rolling over backroad hills.

3. Good News-Classified (Feat. Jann Arden) [Acoustic]

Feeling more emotional? “Good News” is one of those choices for those who are driving to clear their heads. Canadian rapper Classified, also known as Luke Boyd, started his music career in 1995. You may recognize the rapper from his single, “Inner Ninja”, with guest vocalist Olly Murs, released in 2013. Classified also released another popular hit the following year, “Higher”, with B.O.B as the song’s feature.

“Good News, featuring Jann Arden”, found on his latest album (Retrospected (Acoustic)), showcases the rapper’s more emotional side and love for acoustic music. If you feel a little overwhelmed by a summer job or the endless summer planning, Good News is one of those songs that gives you a sense of calm. The song’s catchy melody and relatable lyrics are perfect for a slow-paced night drive at sunset when you need a break from your busy summer days.

4. About You-G Flip

Let’s be honest, we all love a song we can sing all the lyrics to while cruising through neighborhoods and side streets, but sometimes those overplayed radio songs don’t quite hit the same. About You by G Flip gives you that ‘freedom’ sensation paired with easy-to-learn lyrics. G Flip is one of the most unique artists on this list.

The talented 27-year-old, non-binary singer, started off making music in the comfort of their bedroom, later working with Future Classic, an independent record label, and releasing their debut single, “About You”, in 2018. With only one album to their name (About Us), this dynamic, anthemic pop artist is just beginning their journey to much-deserved stardom.

If you’re on the lookout for a song that makes you feel weightless on your summer night drives and makes you want to roll all the windows down, “About You” undoubtedly deserves a spot on your playlist. However, try not to wake your neighbors when screaming the song’s lyrics out your car’s rolled-down windows.

5. Finders Keepers-Mabel (Feat. Kojo Funds)

Late-night summer drives are perfect for driving around with friends; nothing makes the ride more memorable than a song that makes you want to shimmy in your seat. If you’re in a groovy mood, this song is the one for you. 20-year-old R&B-pop artist Mabel joined the music industry in 2015, releasing her first single, “Know Me Better”, on SoundCloud. Although you may know her from this viral hit, “Finders Keepers”, featuring Kojo Funds, released in 2017, topped UK charts and led to her BRIT Critics Choice Award nomination.

If you’re hitting the road with friends, “Finders Keepers” is the perfect song to jam out to, especially if you wind up parking at a lookout point during your late-night cruise. The song’s groovy tone and smooth vocals are sure to have you turning the volume to max and lead to some funny car dance moves with friends.

6. Cool It-Claudia Bouvette

Are you the kind of person who loves finding unique and out-of-the-box music that often flies under the mainstream radar? Then consider adding this original anthem to your summer night drive playlist. Claudia Bouvette from Montreal, Canada, kicked off her music career in 2019, releasing her very first EP Cool It (different from her single).

Known for her particular yet captivating style, the signer offers a modern take on electro-pop paired with a variety of instrumental beats. Her album Paradise Club, released on May 20, 2022, is a must-have for those managing the ups and downs of relationships.

If you’re looking for a song with an authentic and funky beat to play during your late-night travels or that will be a definite conversation starter, “Cool It” is the song for you. The song’s simple lyrics are also a bonus for those who enjoy singing along behind the wheel.

7. Girl at Coachella-Matoma & MAGIC! (Feat. DRAM)

The last but never the least suggestion on this list will surely have you feeling the summertime vibes, especially those late-night ones. We all know the band MAGIC! from their hit single “Rude,” released in October 2013.

The Canadian reggae fusion band started producing music in 2012, coming out with their first album (Don’t Kill The Magic) in 2014, with the song “Rude” hitting number one on global music charts. MAGIC! later released albums such as Primary Colours in 2016 and Expectations in 2018. “Girl at Coachella” is one of the band’s many song collaborations with other music artists. For this song, MAGIC! worked alongside DJ Matoma and artist DRAM.

“Girl at Coachella” is a perfect addition to your late-night summer drive playlist if you want to jam out to a feel-good rhythm that reminds you of summer’s easy-going moments. This song will undoubtedly have you soaking up the last bits of your summer nights, whether you’re cruising with friends or riding solo at sunset.
