Moon Knight Takes Charge as Marvel Snaps Up 19 Emmy Nominations

Beginning with Wandavision in 2021, Marvel Studios ushered in a new era with Phase 4 of the iconic cinematic universe, by taking the leap into streaming world, with various limited series and shows produced for Disney +.  2022 has seen that continue, and now this season for the 2022 Emmy’s, the studio has found itself securing 19 nominations for four of the studios productions; Moon Knight, Loki, Hawkeye, and What if…?.

Of these shows, it’s Moon Knight which has seen the most nominations, garnering 8 nominations, Loki following suit with 6, What if…? getting 3, and finally Hawkeye with 2.  Notably, there was an absense of an acting nomination for any of these series, something which Wandavision would manage to receive last year.

While Phase 4 has been a somewhat mixed bag for Marvel Studios when it comes to their films, the various Disney+ series have all been relatively consistent in terms of quality, with only a few notable hiccups here and there.  Of the shows this year, Moon Knight certainly was the biggest surprise in terms of quality, as it introduced a new character and mythos, was notably darker and more serious in tone, and lacked many references to other franchises within the MCU, allowing it to stand on it’s own.  Loki would receive praise for it’s unique premise, visuals, and ending which saw the floodgates of the multiverse open to the MCU.  Hawkeye was notable for its Christmas theme, character interactions, and down to earth action sequences, and What if…? received praise for it’s unique twists on iconic MCU stories, and was notable for the posthumous performance of Chadwick Boseman, of which he would receive an award nomination for as a version of T’Challa who would take the place of Peter Quill as Star Lord.
