“The Marvels” Trailer Teases Epic MCU Team Up

The long awaited sequel to Captain Marvel, which premiered in 2019 is almost here. Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers in “The Marvels”, but this time it’s not just her furry sidekick Goose that she’s got by her side.

“The Marvels” will also bring fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Teyonah Parris from “WandaVision” and Iman Vellani from “Ms. Marvel” into the spotlight for this epic team up. Even though it appears, they don’t like to use that word.

The film takes place after the events of the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel,” which introduced Vellani as Kamala Khan, a.k.a. the young, New Jersey superhero Ms. Marvel. If you remember post credit scene of the final episode of Ms. Marvel, you’ll probably remember that Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan accidentally switch places. Our first look at the trailer explains why. Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers, and must team up to determine why.

“The Marvels” trailer sees Captain Monica Rambeau (Parris) working as an astronaut for Saber Space Station alongside Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). When Monica hits a jump point in the space continuum, she then switches places with Kamala, and considering Carol is now in Kamala’s place, we must assume Monica is in Carol’s. The film dives into why Carol, Kamala, and Monica’s powers are all connected and how they share a unique set of transformative powers. We finally get to see what exactly Samuel L Jackson’s former SHIELD leader Nick Fury has been up to in space – sure to be explored more in the series Secret Invasion, coming soon to Disney+.

The film is directed by Nia DaCosta who helmed 2021’s “Candyman”, she will make her MCU debut with “The Marvels”, this makes her the first Black woman, and fourth woman, to direct a film in the MCU. DaCosta co-wrote the screenplay with Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

South Korean actor Park Seo-joon, best known for his role in “Parasite” stars as Prince Yan, we get our first look at him in the trailer, and well, he does not look happy. The film also stars Saagar Shaikh, Zenoiba Shroff and Mohan Kapur as Kamala’s older brother, mother and father, respectively, along with Zawe Ashton in an undisclosed villain role, but in the trailer we do see her wielding what looks to be Ronan the Accuser’s hammer, and leading an army of Kree warriors.

With all that’s going on we are surely in for a lot of humor, particularly from Imaan Vellani I’m guessing, and it looks like quite an amount of action and a storyline that brings a unique switcheroo where three different worlds collide. As well as a lot more cats.

Watch the official trailer below.

“The Marvels” hits theaters on Nov. 10, 2023.
