Hulu Renews Futurama For Two More Seasons

Hulu has renewed Futurama for another two seasons, spanning twenty new episodes, bringing the series into its 13th and 14th seasons.

The original Futurama cast will be returning. John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman reprise their fan-favorite roles as a dysfunctional Planet Express delivery crew, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The renewal caps off a remarkable comeback for a show that refuses to stay canceled or retired. Futurama has famously ended multiple times – and seemingly always comes back.

Last May, Hulu signed on to bring Futurama out of cryptogenic sleep. Fans have long kept the series coming back despite network changes, cast contract disputes, and more than a few cancellations. The Planet Express crew returned to the spotlight on July 24, streaming ten new episodes that landed on Nielsen’s list of top 10 original streaming series six times during season 11’s run.

The streaming platform is sitting on ten remaining episodes from its previous revival deal in February 2022, when it picked up the series for two revival seasons after a decade-long break. The 12th season is expected to be available sometime in 2024, along with a King of the Hill revival series, though Hulu hasn’t revealed a release date for either project yet.

Hulu was not immediately available to comment.

This marks the second return since Futurama debuted on Fox in 1999, where it ran for four seasons before being canceled and retiring to reruns land on Adult Swim. Show creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen returned in 2007 to create four direct-to-video films that were turned into a fifth season that aired on Comedy Central, which renewed Futurama for an additional 52 episodes spanning four seasons that debuted in 2010 and ran through 2013. The seasons were eventually broken into four 13-episode seasons, making counting the entire show’s run a bit wonky.
