Did You Know Bill Hader Voiced These Characters?

Bill Hader many talents but what most people don’t know, is the amount of voice work he has done over the years. Since he will be heading back into the world of animation now that he has been cast in the new Cat in the Hat animation from Warner Bro. Pictures, lets do a recap of Hader’s work as a voice actor.

Hader will star as The Cat alongside Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson, Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang, Marvel star Xochitl Gomez, What We Do in the Shadows’ Matt Berry and Girls5eva actress Paula Pell.

During his time on Saturday Night Live, Hader made a name for himself as a comedian and impressionist, particularly for playing his beloved character Stefon, before leaving SNL, he appeared in multiple films such as “Tropic Thunder” (2007), “Superbad” (2008) and “The To Do List” (2013). After he left the show Hader’s film career really took off when he started Starring in movies like “The Skeleton Twins” (2014), “Trainwreck” (2015) and “IT Chapter 2” (2019) which really bosted Hader’s profile. In 2015 he co created his parody series Documentary Now! with Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, and Rhys Thomas. (2015). When “Barry” (2018), the show that Hader Co created with Alec Berg premiered, things started to rapidly change for him after the show became a hit.

During his time as an actor both before and after SNL, Hader voice many different characters from multiple films and on TV, even contributing to Disney and Pixar and the Star Wars franchise. Hader has been one of the most sought after voices in animation.

Here are some characters that you probably didn’t know Bill Hader voiced:

Flint Lockwood from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 and 2 (2009 and 2013)

The Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movies follows quirky scientist Flint Lockwood, who is frequently written off as a failure until he creates a device that allows food to fall from the sky. till the situation starts to get worse. Things are in a world of their own in the second movie. This was the first animation that Hader lead. he starred alongside Anna Faris, Bruce Campbell, James Caan and Andy Samberg.

Fear from Inside Out 1 (2015)

When Hader voiced he said the role fit him perfectly because sometimes he gets scared easily. He is one of the five emotions inside the mind of Riley Andersen alongside Anger, Disgust, Sadness and Joy. This was Hader’s first major Disney/Pixar film, he starred alongside Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black and Mindy Kaling.

Guy Gagné from Turbo (2013)

Pronounced GEE gahn-yei, Guy Gagné is the primary antagonist in DreamWorks’ 27th full-length animated feature picture “Turbo” about a snail with extrordinary powers who decides to compete in the world’s fastest race, the Indianapolis 500. Hader worked with a group of immensly talented actors and SNL alumns for this movie, he starred alongside Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Peña, Samuel L. Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Luis Guzmán, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph and Ken Jeong.

King Leonard from Angry Birds 1 and 2 (2016 and 2019)

Even though his face wasn’t even showing, that didn’t stop Hader from making hilarious facial expressions while completing his voice work for Angry Birds, as you can see in the clip above. Hader plays Leonard, also known as King Mudbeard, the king of the pigs. Hader stars alongside SNL alumns Jason Sudeikis and Maya Rudolph as well as Josh Gad and Danny McBride.

Bloodbottler from The BFG (2016)

Bill Hader got to have one of his dreams come true in this film, and that is working with Steven Spielberg. He had a supporting role as Bloodbottler, who is second-in-command to the giants’ leader, Fleshlumpeater. He, along with the other eight man-eating giants, live in Giant Country. As his name implies, he has a fondness for the taste of human blood. He may be bloodthirsty but he is also the smartest of the tribe. Apart from voice acting in this film, Hader also worked with motion capture.

Firewater / Tequila / El Guaco from Sausage Party (2016)

The cast of Seth Rogen’s raunchy 2016 comedy “Sausage Party” included a star studded line up of actors in starring roles and making cameos . Hader voiced three characters Firewater, José Tequila, and El Guaco. The main character he plays being Firewater. Hader starred alongside Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek

Alpha 5 from The Power Rangers (2017)

In 2017 Hader joined a long line of actors who have played the lovable robotic assistance to the power rangers, Alpha 5 when he voiced the CGI version of the character in the 2017 remake “The Power Rangers”. Alpha 5 is one of the main characters in the 2017 movie. The film follows a group of five youths who have been endowed with superhuman talents must use their newfound abilities to fight an extraterrestrial invasion of Earth as the Power Rangers.

J.P. Spamley from Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)

Although Bill Hader was in Ralph Breaks the Internet as the voice of J.P. Spamley, he was not officially credited, he played an internet resident who appears in the form of a pop up advertiser and then proceeds to assist Ralph and Vanellope. Despite having only a few scenes, Hader makes them a few memorable ones.

Cyrus Strange from The Addams Family 2 (2021)

In this film, Hader plays a mad scientist in the Addams family’s universe. In an effort to aid him with his wicked experiments to produce an army of animal-human super soldiers that he can sell them to other countries, Strange attempts to persuade Wednesday Addams that he is her biological father. Somehow Hader is just too good at being evil.

BB-8 from the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz both supplied the voice of BB-8, both were credited as “BB-8 vocal consultants” in the film. The effect was created by J.J. Abrams manipulating Hader and Schwartz’s voices through a talkbox attached to an iPad running a sound effects app.

Some other note worthy voice contributions are;  the Slug Monster Student in the 2013 Disney/Pixar film “Monsters University” who ends the film, as the fish “Stan” in Finding Dory, and Hansel in the 2011 film “Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil”. He has also appeared in numerous episodes of “South Park” on which he was also a producer, “Bob’s Burgers”, “The Simpsons”, “The Awesomes” and most recently, Marvel’s “MODOK.”

Now with a Cat in The Hat animation on the way, we are definitely in for a treat. After all, considering how well the 2018 animation “The Grinch” turned out, with Hader leading the cast, we are in for another great Dr Seuss movie. Besides, he’s done it once before, he can do it again.
