“Ferrari” First Teaser Promises A High Speed & High Stakes Drama

Michael Mann’s long awaited film “Ferrari” is one of the most anticipated films of the year, it received a 6 minute standing ovation at Venice Film Festival this week. Neon has finally given us the first look at fast paced autobiography of Italian sports car euntrepreneur, Enzo Ferrari played by Adam Driver in it’s first thrilling teaser.

Driver has completey transformed in this role, taking on the role of a wealthy Italian businessmen once again after playing Maurizio Gucci in 2021’s “House of Gucci”. This will also be his second time acting in a movie about racing after 2017’s”Logan Lucky”, however this time the stakes are much higher.

Set during the summer of 1957, the film finds ex-Formula 1 racer Enzo Ferrari in crisis. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing 10 years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for their one son. Ferrari struggles with the acknowledgement of another. His drivers’ lust to win pushes them out to the edge. He wagers all in a roll of the dice on one race, the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the iconic Mille Miglia. From the few seconds we are given a glimpse of the  Ferrari movie in the teaser, we can see the heartache, the love, the relationships, the high speed and high stakes. and the masterpieces that is, the Ferrari.

1957 is a is notable year for the Ferrari family because that was the year a Ferrari vehicle was involved in a serious accident in the home stretch, resulting in several casualties, which got Enzo charged with manslaughter. It is more than likely that the film will include this tragedy either at the end of the film or as a main plot point.

Aside from Driver, the film also stars  Penélope Cruz as Enzo’s wife Laura, Shailene Woodley as Enzo’s mistress Lina Lardi, Gabriel Leone as Alfonso de Portago, Erik Haugen as de Portago’s navigator Edmund Nelson, Patrick Dempsey, Jack O’Connell, Sarah Gadon. Both de Portago and Nelson were among those killed in the car accident.

As we see in the trailer, this film is all about family, legacy, winning and of course, racing. Ferrari says it best at the end of the trailer, “If you get in to one of my cars, you get in to win”.  Watch the trailer below:
