Carrie Fisher is Honored With A Walk of Fame Star For Star Wars Day

Actress Carrie Fisher was honored posthumously by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 4th, a May the Fourth tribute to one of the “Star Wars” franchise’s most beloved figures.

Fisher who died in 2016 joined “Star Wars” co-stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill on the Hollywood tourist attraction that recognizes luminaries from film, television, music and other entertainment industries. The trio’s stars are all located on the 6,800 block of Hollywood Boulevard, near where the original film debuted in 1977.

Fisher played General Leia Organa, who over six films morphed from a princess to a general leading the forces of good in its fight against oppressive regimes aiming to control a galaxy far, far away. Since then, she graced the film screen in such hits as “When Harry Met Sally,” “Hannah and Her Sisters” and “The Blues Brothers,” to name a few. Her television credits include “Laverne & Shirley,” “Sex and the City” and “30 Rock,” for which she received an Emmy® nomination.

Fans have long campaigned for her to receive a Walk of Fame star. The honor came on May the Fourth, essentially an official holiday for Star Wars fans that’s a play on a line that Fisher said often in the films, “May the Force be with you.” Devotees worldwide celebrated with a variety of tributes.

The induction ceremony was held at 11:30 a.m. Pacific and livestreamed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Fisher was given the 2,754th star on the Walk of Fame. Ford received his star in 2003 and Hamill was honored in 2018.

Billie Lourd accepted the star on behalf of her mother, with Mark Hamill, C-3PO and R2-D2 by her side. “My mom isn’t just princess leia. she’s carrie fisher.” Said Lourd at the ceremony, she went on to say “Momma, you’ve made it.”

In an emotional speech at the ceremony, Mark Hamill read a note he wrote shortly after Carrie Fisher died. “She was our princess, dammit! The actress who played her blurred into one gorgeous, fearlessly independent, ferociously funny, take charge woman who took our collective breath away.” He also talked about the first time he met her, calling her charming, funny, adorable and wise.

“Carrie will join her “Star Wars” co-stars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “I am happy to add, that her star is just a few feet away from the star of Mark Hamill and across the street from the star of her legendary mother Debbie Reynolds!” added Martinez.

What better way to celebrate Star Wars Day than to celebrate our princess, Carrie Fisher.
