It was indeed a Blue Christmas at Saturday Night Live as fans came to know that Cecily Strong has leaving the show after 11 years of being a cast member from 2012 to 2022. She was the longest-serving female cast member.
Cecily has been an amazing talent over the years, as an impressionist, a character actor, a Weekend Update Co host and more. She co-anchored Weekend Update with Seth Meyers first before he left and then with Colin Jost until 2014.
Cecily has played a number of different characters such as Cathy Anne and The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with. She has impersonated multiple political figures including Judge Jeanine Pirro, Michigan governor Gretchen Witmer and Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to name a few.
As was the tradition when Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson and Kyle Mooney left, the cast said goodbye in true SNL fashion, with a sketch, but this was no ordinary sketch, it turned out to be a beautiful serenade from the show’s host, Austin Butler. As Austin performed the song Blue Christmas, Cecily, Kenan and the rest of the cast joined in, but the most emotional part of this all, was the tender moment shared between Colin Jost and Cecily Strong.
Colin Jost who is a writer on the show and co hosts Weekend Update with Michael Che was noticeably upset during the shows Weekend Update segment, and well, now we know why. Apart from being close friends, Cecily Strong was Colin’s first Weekend Update Co host. Ever since the episode aired, fans cannot stop talking about how heartbreaking Colin (who rarely shows emotion) running onto stage singing with the cast and hugging Cecily at the end of the performance was.
Here are some incredibly heartbreaking reactions from fans to Colin and Cecily’s sweet moment during the Saturday Night Live season 48 mid season finale.
Between Austin Butler’s tribute to his mom and Cecily Strong’s send-off, #SNL bummed me out. Also: Colin Jost looks bummed, too. #BlueChristmas, indeed. pic.twitter.com/8CTdvTOZj0

cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned
everything you lose is a step you take
so make the friendship bracelets
take the moment and taste it
