Get ready to see a whole new side of Jennifer Lopez in the trailer for her new Netflix film, The Mother.
On September 24, Netflix dropped the first look at the action thriller during their global Tudum event. In The Mother, Lopez channels her inner Liam Neeson as an assassin hell-bent on rescuing her daughter from nefarious forces. You can tell she has her own very particular set of skills because she does pull-ups in the snow while wearing a sports bra and a beanie!
“You saw who’s out there. It’s gonna keep coming,” she tells her estranged daughter (Lucy Paez), ominously. “If there’s trouble, come find me.”
According to the official description from Netflix, Lopez’s character has come out of hiding after giving up her daughter to protect her from dangerous men played by Joseph Fiennes and Gael Garcia Bernal. The film also stars Omari Hardwick and Paul Raci. Watch the trailer, below.
This marks Jennifer Lopez’s first departure from her signature rom-coms since starring in the 2019 stripper crime drama Hustlers. During her recent Netflix documentary, Halftime, the triple threat admitted she was hurt by that year’s Oscars snub. “I really thought I had a chance. I felt like I let everybody down,” she said in regards to her team, per Insider. “They wanted it so bad. For me, for them. I mean, it’s a validation of all the work that they do, too.”
