As an entirely independent film festival, Raindance relies on donations and sponsorships in order to provide a platform and space for independent filmmakers. This year, we had the pleasure of partnering with TooFar Media to celebrate the 30th year of independent film in the UK and bring something special to the festival.
Based out of House of Raindance at Genesis Cinema, TooFar Media displayed their array of thought-provoking multimedia stories that combine book, music, art, animation and video. Created by the visionary maverick Rich Shapero, these stories change the way readers experience literature, putting a spin on provocative storytelling for the eyes, ears, and imagination.
The generosity of TooFar Media allowed us to bring to life our Backyard Cinema at Genesis, where we hosted the Raindance industry sessions throughout the festival. These industry sessions brought together filmmakers, industry professionals, students, and lovers of the craft from all over the world and featured informative talks, workshops and masterclasses exploring various aspects of the filmmaking world. The Backyard Cinema was also the location for Live! Ammunition, our regular pitching competition; Boozin’ and Schmoozin’ our networking event; the Open Shorts Night; and screening venue for the four Raindance mavericks.
The Backyard Cinema was the perfect venue for the industry sessions, as it allowed for a hub for filmmakers to network and interact outside of the main cinema, while still remaining connected. It also provided great ambience for the re-screening of the four mavericks – Old Boy, Pulp Fiction, Memento and The Blair Witch Project – enhancing an already unique and unparalleled experience.

Raindance has been delivering film training since 1992. A wide range of Open Classes to a 2 year HND Level 5 BTEC in Moving Images to a Postgraduate Film Degree are delivered to students on five continents, both in person and online.
