Imagine if the folks from It’s Always Sunny were the heirs of a Southern megachurch – that’s The Righteous Gemstones. Written and directed by Danny McBride, this ridiculous comedy follows the three nightmare children of Dr. Eli Gemstone, founder of the family’s televangelism business. When their lavish lives are threatened by blackmail and murder, the Gemstones – played by McBride, Adam Devine, and Edi Patterson – will stop at nothing to secure their fortune. These three stars go to unbelievable lengths with their characters, who are just as unsavory as the Roys in Succession, but they’re not the only cast members who are a delight to watch. Considering The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 returns June 18 on HBO Max, now is the perfect time to catch up on the first two seasons.
