Yes, we know, spoiler alert for anyone who is really behind: Aimee Lou Wood’s pure-hearted Chelsea died tragically at the end of HBO’s White Lotus season 3. However, creator Mike White has a history of teasing his actors on how he could return their characters in future seasons.
Today at Deadline’s TIFF studio, last year’s supporting actress in a drama series, Wood, told us about her conversation with White, and how he mused on how Chelsea could comeback despite her death.
“We were saying maybe Saxson’s (Patrick Schwarzenegger) conscience,” said Wood, “She could be in his mind, in the future if we go back to Saxson.”
“She could be there guiding him, haunting him,” Wood added.
While Saxson and Chelsea didn’t have an affair, the former had a crush on her. Chelsea knew Saxon was a mess, and advised him to meditate and clear his mind, not to mention she was with Walton Goggins’ Rick Hatchett.
“At the time, he (White) was going, ‘Have I made the wrong choice?’,” the actress shared, “I was like ‘you have to kill her.’”
Wood said that her return would only come about if the series goes “supernatural or afterlifey.”
Of those White Lotus characters to return in subsequent seasons, Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid came back for the Sicily set-season 2 edition. Natasha Rothwell’s Belinda Lindsey returned for the Thailand-set season 3, while Jon Gries’ Greg Hunt has starred in all three seasons.
Wood is here at TIFF with the Michael Englert and Malgorzata Sumoska directed The Idiot(s) in which she plays Anna Dostoevskaya. The movie follows Anna and her husband famed author Fyodor Dostoevsky on their honeymoon while he’s trying to crack one of his noteworthy novels, The Idiot. The title is up for sale via The Match Factory and CAA.
