The Flash Still Has a Lot of Surprises in Store, Will Honor the Legacy of DC

Director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti have spilled a few more details about The Flash, revealing that there are still plenty of surprises in store and declaring that the cameos were planned as a way to “honor the legacy of DC.” Speaking with Collider, the Andy Muschietti promised that, despite all the leaks, screenings, and revelations that have happened (including some from himself), there is still a lot for audiences to look forward to.

“If you see the movie on the 16th or after you’ll notice that there’s a couple of surprises there that we wanted to leave for the release of the movie, just to avoid any kind of possible leaks and stuff. So, there’s a couple more surprises there.”

The Flash will unleash the DC multiverse on the big screen, with the chaos reportedly leading to all manner of unexpected, super cameos. Producer Barbara Muschietti goes on to reveal that they got a big “yes” from every actor they turned to for a cameo role. But would have had even more had time permitted…

“No, we had a yes on absolutely everybody we reached out to. The issue was time. We wanted to give each of these cameos time for people to have the time to enjoy them. So we had to cut down the list, which was very long. But everybody we approached, their estates and the living people, they were game because they understood what we wanted to do, which was to honor the legacy of DC.”

The Flash Will Offer Even More Surprises in Its Home Release

Warner Bros. Pictures

Believe it or not, The Flash will offer even more surprises when it’s released on Blu-ray, with Andy Muschietti revealing details of deleted scenes and how they strived to cut the DC outing down from a four-hour runtime due to all the improvisation.

“The first thing is, I like to shoot a lot and I like to have options, and depending on the actors I’m working with, we have more or less material. In the case of my work with Ezra, we had an impossibly long list of options because Ezra is a phenomenal actor, gives you a lot, and we did a lot of improvising that led to the scenes being longer than expected and ended up with a four-hour movie, basically.”

Thankfully, we can expect to see this material in the home release for The Flash, with the filmmaker with an excited “You will!” when asked if it would appear as deleted scenes on the eventual Blu-ray.

Worlds will collide in The Flash when the superhero uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past. However, when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, he becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation. With no other superheroes to turn to, the Flash looks to coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian — albeit not the one he’s looking for.

Starring Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, Ben Affleck, and Michael Keaton, The Flash is scheduled for release on June 16, 2023.
