Sweet Magnolias on Netflix Is Coming Back for Season 3: Everything We Know

Sweet Magnolias is officially coming back for more margarita nights, drama, and romance on…drumroll, please: Thursday, July 20, 2023. We’re now less than a month away from season three, which means we finally have an official trailer, and 15 new photos.

It’s been a long wait for fans (a little over a year, to be exact), who have been wanting answers to that season-two cliff-hanger ever since the beloved series starring JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley was renewed back on May 4, 2022. The series—based on the popular novels by New York Times best-selling author Sherryl Woods—first premiered in May 2020 and quickly became the surprise hit of the summer. Season two premiered on February 4, 2022, and ended with a ton of shockers and surprises for the lives of everyone in Serenity. Now we’ll know whether Helen will accept Ryan’s proposal (um, no, she’d better not), what will happen to Cal, and just who is out to get Dana Sue.

Netflix has also revealed that the third season will consist of 10 one-hour episodes, and all will drop at once. That’s the same amount as seasons one and two. Sheryl J. Anderson will return as showrunner and executive producer, along with Dan Paulson as executive producer.

Are you ready for the trailer? There’s so much that’s going to go down in these episodes, so take a look and then we’ll discuss:

Okay, so for one, it looks like we’re getting a wedding, or some fancy event of sorts. My money’s on Dana Sue and Ronnie renewing their vows, but of course, TBD. (Also, gotta love this mystery woman crashing a party and looking to cause trouble for the Sullivans.) Meanwhile, we have Cal saying he never wants to hurt anyone (literally and figuratively), but somehow he always does. It’s clear Maddie has a lot on her mind about whether she can make her relationship with the former baseball player work. Also having hiccups are Noreen and Bill, who are balancing a toddler, and a very unsteady relationship. Then there’s Tyler, who like any normal teen, wants to date around, even though one person likely has his heart (Annie). And then there’s the storyline that completely captivated me last season: Helen’s desire to be a mother, and the man she wants to move forward with in her life. Ryan finally proposed, but in my mind it’s too little too late, and Erik is the right guy to explore a relationship with. But will she? (As Dana Sue says, “it’s hard having two good men in your life.”) God, I can’t wait for this season.
