For the first time in five years, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are back on the big screen with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters. Moving on from director Jon Watts, Destin Daniel Cretton took the reins for this movie after his work on 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and 2026’s Wonder Man. This story brings back Tom Holland’s titular web-slinger in his wildest story to date, pitting him against new street-level antagonists while throwing him into a battle with a mysterious telepath unlike anything he has ever seen before.
Brand New Day opened to impressive reviews from critics and fans, including the highest average audience score of any live-action Spider-Man movie ever on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, after the first two trailers for this movie broke viewing records in their first 24 hours, expectations and predictions for its potential box-office earnings went through the roof as the summer release season began. Now, as the numbers for its opening weekend roll in, records are on their way to being broken in this arena.
Variety reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed an astonishing $360 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend. This gives the fourth Spider-Man movie the biggest domestic opening weekend in history, surpassing the $357 million accrued by 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, surpassing Brand New Day‘s original estimate of $355 million. The outlet also reported that the movie opened with $932 million worldwide, ranking second only to Endgame‘s $1.22 billion. This opening also outpaces 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home by almost $100 million domestically and almost $350 million globally.
