Seann William Scott Wants To Play Booster Gold In James Gunn’s DCU

Seann William Scott is already a legend in comedy, and has even had some action roles, proving that he can do much more than make the audience laugh. But it seems that the actor wants to continue innovating in other genres and is ready to join the most popular one nowadays, the superhero genre.

As Marvel Studios moves into a new phase after the definitive introduction of the multiverse concept, which will bring many new characters that may not be so popular even for comic book readers, DC is preparing for a fresh start with its classic heroes and some new faces. Among the latter will be Booster Gold, a character loved by fans and who will have his own series within the first phase of James Gunn’s DCU, Gods & Monsters.

In a chat with ComicBook.com, Scott revealed that he would be delighted to join Gunn’s project, and precisely to play Michael Carter:

“I definitely would. I’d love to. I think it’d be fun to do a comic book movie. I think the first character that came to mind was — Booster Gold could be very fun, but I think I’m too old for it… I don’t know if he’s supposed to be younger, but that character, I was like ‘That I could.’ I just don’t remember his age, but it was like ‘That’s a great character.’ Come on, James Gunn! Let’s go!”

Scott began his career in 1996 with a small role in the series Unhappily Ever After, but his big break came three years later, when he played the legendary Steve Stifler in the first installment of the American Pie franchise.

Who is Booster Gold?

DC Comics

Introduced in 1986 in Booster Gold #1, the character was created by Dan Jurgens, and has even become a recognized member of the Justice League. His original name is Michael Jon Carter, and he has been known by other nicknames such as Supernova, Waverider, and Gold Star.

Born in 25th century Gotham City, Michael was a football star until his father convinced him to lose a game to earn money, and he ended up working as a security guard at a museum, wasting his potential. There he studies the history of superheroes from the past. He steals various gadgets and travels back in time to become a hero centuries before he was born thanks to technology from the future.

After the presentation of the first phase of the new DCU, Gunn spoke about what story he wants to tell with Booster Gold:

“Think of it basically as a story of a superhero’s imposter syndrome. And how do you deal with that? How does he try to use this future technology to be loved by people today? And what is really the base of that and it’s a character study. That’s going to be a very different type of show, and we are talking to an actor about this right now, and I think that’s going to happen.”

Other actors who were linked to the character now that he will have his series were Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell and Gunn’s friend from Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt.
