You can count in Sarah Paulson among those who want to see Pedro Pascal headlining major movies in Hollywood. A veteran of the screen, Pascal’s star has risen exponentially in recent years with his starring roles on the hit shows The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. The actor has also entertained with roles in recent films like Wonder Woman 1984, The Bubble, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. He’s also set to lead the upcoming limited series My Dentist’s Murder Trial at HBO.
A new story at Esquire delves into Pascal’s rise in show business, and it features comments from his longtime friend Paulson. The pair first met three decades ago when Pascal was still struggling to make it in Hollywood, and Paulson recalls sparing him some money so he could keep himself fed during those difficult years. Now, Paulson’s noticed how Pascal seems to always be standing out with his performances, helping to elevate whatever show he’s a part of.
“He’s a part of some spectacularly successful things,” Paulson puts it. “But sometimes in those situations, the show is the superstar. It’s really exciting to see that he is the thing that is becoming the superstar out of this.”
Paulson went on to describe how it’s “psychotic” how everyone in show business now “wants a piece” of Pascal, and she’s here for his success. At this point, the actor’s acclaim and popularity make the timing right for him to start getting put into the lead role in major movies, feeling he belongs to be right up there with the Hollywood echelon like Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis.
“You just want him to succeed,” Paulson says. “And that to me, I feel like, is the sign of a major movie star. I’m ready for him to take the reins from the guys from romantic comedies past, like Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson and all these guys. He can be all that. Let’s remake Die Hard with Pedro. Remake all the Lethal Weapon movies with Pedro.”
Pedro Pascal: King of Hollywood?
Pascal’s star is shining brightly and it has many fans wondering where else they can expect to see the actor. He says he’s trying to be careful with picking his next roles as and doesn’t want to have his rapidly rising fame result in a rushed bad decision.
“What’s next? I have no f**king idea,” the actor says “I just hope that I have the maturity to not chase something that would mean more from the outside.”
For now, fans can look forward to seeing Pascal in the upcoming short film Strange Way of Life, a queer Western starring the Last of Us actor alongside Ethan Hawke. Directed by Pedro Almodovar, the short will be premiering at Cannes in May.
