In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar published on February 16, Paris Hilton opened up about her experience as America’s hottest heiress. Hilton’s fame was magnified by her 2003 reality show The Simple Life, which she starred in alongside Nicole Richie, and made the duo household names. Though she seemed like the picture of confidence, Hilton admitted that beneath the surface of her “that’s hot” act, she was deeply insecure.
Back in the early 2000s, Hilton seemed to be pictured in the tabloids with a different beau each week—but her connection to sexuality was complicated, she says. Though she was keen on kissing, experiencing sexual attraction was foreign, and she wondered in her early twenties if she was asexual. “I was known as a sex symbol, but anything sexual terrified me,” the 42-year-old admitted. “I called myself the ‘kissing bandit’ because I only liked to make out. A lot of my relationships didn’t work out because of that.”
It wasn’t until she met her husband, Carter Reum, that she finally felt comfortable and understood exactly what she needed from her partner. “I enjoy hooking up with my husband,” Hilton shared.
At this point in her life, she’s content exactly where she is. “I feel so proud of the woman that I’ve become, because for so long I kept all of that with me,” she told Bazaar. “All the negative, horrible words that they would say to me every single day, that sticks with you. I just was not secure. Now I feel that people finally respect me and get me in ways that they never did.” With a fulfilling marriage to the man that made her feel comfortable in her own skin, a sweet newborn baby boy, and a memoir (Paris) coming out on March 14, Paris Hilton is finally finding peace.
