Paris Hilton Says She Didn’t Change Her Son’s Diaper for the First Month of His Life

No one expected Paris Hilton to be a “normal” mom. Still, it’s surprising many that, for the first month of her son Phoenix’s life, she didn’t take part in that new-parent rite of passage: changing a dirty diaper.

On a recent episode of her reality show, Hilton, who just welcomed a daughter with husband Carter Reum, asked her nanny and sister, “Should I learn how to change his diaper?” It happens to be her birthday, and she told her son, per People, “I said I wouldn’t do this on my birthday, but I will for you.”

Hilton explained that she is “scared” to do it, while her sister, Nicky, was shocked. “You’ve never done it?” she asked. Under the guidance of her sister and nanny, the entrepreneur and DJ successfully changed her baby boy’s diaper.

What’s surprising isn’t so much that Paris Hilton isn’t the one taking care of every single change—she has a nanny and a husband and surely cares for her son in other ways—but that she doesn’t even know how. What if her helpers got sick and her babies needed changing? It’s one of the first skills they teach you in parenting classes because it’s so basic and helpful. (Also, I’m not a mom, but I am a former babysitter, and in my experience changing a poopy diaper can be gross, but it’s not super hard; if you can wrap a present, you can change a baby.)

However, though she might have just learned what to do when something comes out of the baby, she knows how to put something in! In a sweet TikTok video, Hilton (wearing undereye masks, natch) feeds and kisses her little one.
