The star of 1987’s Masters of the Universe shared details about his character in the upcoming new movie of the same name. Dolph Lundgren portrayed He-Man in the ’80s feature directed by Gary Goddard. In the new version, helmed by Travis Knight, Nicholas Galitzine plays Adam Glenn/He-Man. Both projects are part of the namesake multi-media franchise.
Dolph Lundgren’s character to give advice to He-Man in Masters of the Universe
The veteran He-Man actor spoke about his character in the upcoming movie during an interview at the premiere.
When asked by Entertainment Tonight how he was feeling about bringing He-Man back to the big screen after nearly 40 years, Dolph Lundgren responded, “Yeah, it feels great to be part of this legacy and to bring it to a new audience.” He then proceeded to spill details about his role in Masters of the Universe, noting that it’s “nice to feel like the elder warrior who’s helping the younger warrior, giving him some inspiration and advice.”
The Expendables star also clarified that he gave “advice” to Nicholas Galitzine’s character “on screen.” He added that he is playing an individual who gives He-Man some advice “at a crucial time in the picture.”
Later in the interview, Lundgren recalled his reaction to Galitzine’s transformation for the movie. “I thought he looked great on set,” the Swedish actor said. “He looked like He-Man, and I think he has the gentleness and compassion that’s the other side of strength.” Moreover, he elaborated by saying that it’s important to find “balance” between those things.
In a separate interview with PEOPLE, Dolph Lundgren also noted “passing the sword over” to Nicholas Galitzine was a “great feeling” for him.
Aside from Lundgren and Galitzine, the new Masters of the Universe stars Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan / Man-At-Arms, James Purefoy as King Randor, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena Glenn, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress. The movie premiered on May 18, 2026, at the TCL Chinese Theatre. It debuts in US theaters on June 5, 2026.
