New Blood Not Returning to Showtime for Season 2

Dexter: New Blood will not return for a second season, according to TVLine.

There had been interest in a follow-up to the first season of the revival series, which would have seen Harrison continuing his late father’s work.

The news comes on the heels of Showtime canceling several shows, including American Gigolo and Let the Right One In, and removed others from its streaming platforms hours after it was announced Paramount will merge Paramount+ and Showtime content on streaming and linear.

Dexter’s initial eight-season run debuted in the fall of 2006 and quickly rose to prominence.

The revival series picked up 10 years after Dexter faked his death and found the titular serial killer relocating to the fictitious small town of Iron Lake, N.Y., where he is going by the identity of Jim Lindsay, a shop assistant at a nearby retailer of wilderness recreational equipment. The revival series debuted in November 2021 on Showtime.

A continuation of the Dexter franchise isn’t out of the question.

There have been discussions over expanding the Dexter universe, but nothing definitive. A prequel series prequel series centered on a young Dexter is one such idea.
