Michael Mann’s Upcoming ‘Ferrari’ Adds to Cast Sarah Gadon, Jack O’Connell, and Patrick Dempsey

Michael Mann’s is gearing up for his first film in over five years, with his 2017’s “Blackhat” which was his last. Ferrari will be a masterpiece with a director known for his exceptional attention to detail, including all the work Mann’s has put into this project, it’s no surprise this film will also have an all star cast. Sarah Gadon who has starred in Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars will be playing Linda Christian, Jack O’Connell who has starred in ’71 and Unbroken will be playing Peter Collins, and Patrick Dempsey who is best known for playing our McDreamy from the series Grey’s Anatomy and prince in Enchanted will be playing Piero Taruffi. They will be joining Adam Driver, our Star Wars trilogy king Kylo Ren, who will be playing Enzo Ferrari, Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, who will play Enzo Ferrari’s wife and Gabriel Leone.

The film takes place in the summer of 1957. Ferrari (Driver), an ex-racecar driver finds his business life in crisis, with the company he and his wife, Laura (Woodley), built on the verge of bankruptcy. While weathering his tempestuous family life, Ferrari bets big on one race: the iconic Mille Miglia, a 1,000-mile road race across Italy. Mann has stated “The whole movie is three months in the summer of 1957 in Enzo Ferrari’s life. It’s an opera, it’s melodramatic. Everything he’s been collides with what he might become. The company’s going bust. His wife finds out about the other woman. It’s spectacularly operatic melodrama in real life.” Mann has been itching to make a Ferrari movie for years.

Mann has co-written the script with the late Scottish screenwriter Troy Kennedy Martin who wrote the screenplay for the original version of The Italian Job. The script is based on off of Brock Yates‘ 1991 book “Enzo Ferrari: The Man And The Machine.” Mann also produces the upcoming film through his Moto Productions banner with P.J. van Sandwijk and John Lesher.

The true story of Enzo Ferrari was that he who was born on February 18, 1898 in Modena, Italy, was an Italian automobile manufacturer, designer, and racecar driver whose Ferrari cars often dominated world racing competition in the second half of the 20th century. Ferrari raced test cars for a small automobile company in Milan after World War I. In 1920 he became a racecar driver for the Alfa Romeo Company, and in 1929 he formed a racing stable, Scuderia Ferrari, which remained Alfa Romeo’s official racing team even after Ferrari himself ceased to drive in races in 1932. The first racing car completely designed by Ferrari himself was built in 1937, for Alfa Romeo. In 1939 Ferrari severed his team’s connection with Alfa Romeo and founded the firm of Ferrari SpA, but the firm did not manufacture its first racing cars until 1946, after World War II. The firm’s cars soon became known for their formidable speed and handcrafted quality. Ferrari’s Formula 1 racers and sports cars won many Grand Prix races and manufacturers’ championships from the 1950s on, at times dominating the competition. The luxury sports cars the firm built earned a similar reputation for speed and precise handling. He died on August 14, 1988. Full biography here.

This will be one of the movies to look out for. The director aims for production of the movie to start in Italy in August, 2022.
