It goes without saying, that the release of “Deadpool and Wolverine“, the upcoming third installment in the popular superhero series “Deadpool” which reunites stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is not only one of the year’s biggest cinematic events, and possibly, a turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but will also be a major boom for the global cinematic industry.
The film has already set one specific pre-sale record as the most pre-sales ever for an R-rated movie. The film is expected to debut with a domestic opening weekend of $160 million to $165 million from July 26-28. This projected performance not only sets a record for the highest opening of the year so far but also marks the largest launch ever for an R-rated film. Moreover, it promises to provide a significant uplift to both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the superhero genre overall. The first Deadpool movie still holds the record for the biggest domestic opening ever for an R-rated title in history. Deadpool 2 and Deadpool hold the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively on the list of the Highest-Grossing R-Rated Films Worldwide. Could “Deadpool and Wolverine” change that?
As of the date of this article, international pre sale numbers have not been confirmed, However one country in particularly that has a HUGHge reason to celebrate the release of “Deadpool and Wolverine”, is Sri Lanka, a country in South Asia . Scope Cinemas in Sri Lanka is launching the country’s first ever IMAX cinema on July 26th 2024, and what will be the first film screened in IMAX in Sri Lanka? None other than “Deadpool and Wolverine”. Another first for the film.

In speaking to the Head of Marketing and PR at Scope Cinemas, Chassy Cortes mentioned how they came to open IMAX for “Deadpool and Woleverine”, “We’ve kind of have known in our hearts that we should open for Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s a movie that we all need at this point in time. Opening the biggest movie of the year with the biggest screen in Sri Lanka made perfect sense.”
With the “Deadpool and Wolverine” press tour in full swing, the first reactions for the film are in, with stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds alongside director Shawn Levy debuting the first 35 minutes of the film to fans. The film has been described as violent, energetic and super funny. According to Reynolds, who also co-wrote and produced the film, “It’s about friendship, and friendship is another version of a love story.” On top of that this film marks the official integration of the X-Men into the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe.
