Marvel is Reportedly Moving Away From Kang

Ant-Man and Kang

While Loki Season 2 saw Jonathan Majors reprise his role as not one, but two variants of Kang, the future of the multiversal villain remains unclear.

Ever since Majors was arrested in March and charged with domestic violence, rumors have swirled that the MCU would either move away from Kang or recast the character altogether.

As Majors was dropped by the United States Marine Corps, Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers, and even his own publicist and agent, Marvel remained silent.

After a series of delays, Majors’ trial is set to start this month. By the sound of things, however, Marvel may have finally made up its mind and is choosing to move away from Kang as a villain.

Marvel Will Move Away From Kang?

According to MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios co-author Joanna Robinson, Marvel is “likely” to stop telling storylines involving Kang.

Robinson notes that as part of the move away from Kang, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness has also been removed from The Kang Dynasty.

“I heard from someone recently … the screenwriter Jeff Loveness, who wrote Quantumania, was supposed to write The Kang Dynasty … anyway, it’s confirmed,” she said.

Robinson continued, “I had it confirmed to me he’s no longer working for Marvel. I asked the person why, and they said the reason why is he was all wrapped up in this Kang storyline and they are likely going to be moving away from that.”

Deadline also just reported that Destin Daniel Cretton, who was signed on to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, has left the project.

He remains with Marvel to direct the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but he will no longer be part of The Kang Dynasty.

A Decision Has to Come Soon

While Majors’ legal troubles would likely be the driving factor in any decision to move away from Kang, the failure of Quantumania also likely didn’t help.

For now, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still scheduled to come out in 2026. If Marvel is going to pivot away from Kang, a decision will likely have to come soon.
