Major Guardians of the Galaxy Actor Is Joining James Gunn’s DC Universe

Major Guardians of the Galaxy Actor Is Joining James Gunn’s DC Universe

At the premiere for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a key member of the Guardians cast confirmed they’re crossing over to the DCU

Ever since Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was tapped to co-pilot a DCU reboot, fans have been questioning which MCU stars would follow.

The fact that Vol. 3 is the final film within the Guardians trilogy made the situation, and its possibilities, all the more interesting.

And, while some Marvel stars have already made the jump, a key member of the Guardians of the Galaxy just confirmed their own DC future.

Guardians of the Galaxy Star Joining DC?

DC

When Variety asked Pom Klementieff whether she’s spoken to James Gunn about crossing over to DC, the Mantis actress admitted “we’ve had conversations, and we’re like making plans:”

“I’m not going to tell you guys but we’ve had conversations, and we’re like making plans already. But nothing is confirmed yet.”

As to whether there’s a certain character she would like to play, Klementieff responded, saying, “There would be one specific character, but I can’t tell you now.”

Despite further questioning, the actress was reluctant to give any more away.

However, when asked how far long discussions are, she claimed, “I don’t know. It’s in progress.”

And, as to whether she’s a fan of this mysterious DC character, Klementieff revealed:

“I knew about the character yeah and I thought the character was f****** cool.”

Back in January, James Gunn actually teased a DC reunion with Pom Klementieff, saying:

“This cast are like my family. I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. Probably at my other job.”

As for Klementieff, she made her Marvel Studios debut in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, followed by appearances in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder

Last November, her character Mantis took on a leading role in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+.

Is Guardians Vol. 3 Mantis’ MCU Farewell?

Given James Gunn’s close bond with his Guardians of the Galaxy cast, this news isn’t a total surprise.

However, it is certainly noteworthy that the actress confirmed the news at the premiere of Gunn’s final Marvel Studios film.

The question now, of course, is whether Vol. 3 is also Klementieff’s final MCU film and which DC character is Gunn having conversations and making plans about.

As for the first question, general audiences still don’t know whether Mantis survives Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

However, the actress has suggested that the threequel doesn’t mean the Guardians are “Over, over;” and when asked about a Mantis spin-off or series, she said, “Oh, that’d be fun. For sure.”

Perhaps Mantis lives and will go on to make future appearances in the MCU?

As for that second question, Peter Safran and James Gunn are set to launch Chapter 1 of the DCU: Gods and Monsters with Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy

While the former has already been cast, Gunn has yet to confirm casting for Superman which he is also directing. Perhaps the DC boss has Klementieff in mind for the new DCU’s first feature film?

If not, there are plenty of other opportunities within the DCU reboot slate, such as Peacemaker Season 2, Paradise Lost, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and more.

Now that the Mantis star has confirmed her DC future, it will be interesting to see if a studio confirmation – and information about her secretive role – will follow.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on Friday, May 5.
