In Luke Tanner and Haley Leary’s horror short, Lethalogica, the writers-directors play a happy couple, Guy and Marjorie, cleaning up the table after dinner. The typical evening comes to an immediate halt when Majorie declares that her breath still smells like “Adam’s dick.” In Memento-like fashion, our couple’s evening moves backward in time to uncover the secret behind “Adam’s dick.” Moving beyond this point will be a spoiler. But, trust me, it’s worth the ride till the end.
“…moves backward in time to uncover the secret behind ‘Adam’s dick.’”
Running just over five minutes, the film is hilarious and horrifying. It’s beautifully paced and escalates the tension wonderfully. With each flashback comes a bit of comedy for the laugh and some gore as a stomach-churning pairing.
If you’ve ever been to a film festival’s shorts program, you’ll know comedy and horror titles are very similar in structure. They consist of set-ups followed by punchlines, with the ending being either comedic or horrific. Lethalogica is a nice blending of the two. Well done, Tanner and Leary. When I recover, I’ll watch it again.
