There are plenty of veteran actors who have joined the cast of some big superhero movies, and it seems like Julia Roberts is ready to step up. The Pretty Woman star recently told Variety that she would love to be in one of the many superhero franchises out there, and of course there is no doubt that they would be more than happy to have another Oscar winner on board.
Julia Roberts is currently starring in Ticket to Paradise with someone who is infamous to the superhero genre, George Clooney. When the pair spoke together in a new “Just for Variety” video, the superhero subject was brought up, first aimed at Roberts, who grinned at the idea of potentially joining something like the MCU or DCEU and said:
“Wouldn’t it be awesome?”
She added that rather than wearing a cape, she might feel more at home wearing a “superhero apron.” How exactly that would go down among the heroes and villains of any action-packed super-hero movie is something that everyone would love to see, but if Roberts does jump on the bandwagon, she may find that she needs more than just an apron.
Meanwhile, during the same interview, George Clooney also reminded everyone of his previous foray into the world of superheroes, even if that one as part of what is arguably the worst Batman movie ever put on the big screen. Having infamously played Batman in Batman & Robin back in 1997, Clooney revealed that his son is a huge Batman fan. As Clooney said:
“I said, ‘You know I was Batman?’ And he was like, ‘Not anymore.’”
While she may have made her name as the star of movies such as Notting Hill, Runaway Bride and, of course, Pretty Woman, Ticket to Paradise is her first movie in the genre for just short of two decades. However, there has been a reason why she has been absent from the world of Rom-Coms for so long and why she decided now was the time to come back. She previously said:
“People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that’s gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one. If I had read something that I thought was that Notting Hill level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding level of madcap fun, I would do it. They didn’t exist until this movie [Ticket to Paradise] that I just did that Ol Parker wrote and directed. But even with that, I thought, well, disaster, because this only works if it’s George Clooney. Lo and behold, George felt it only worked with me. Somehow we were both able to do it, and off we went.”
This is obviously not the first time Roberts and Clooney have joined forces, having previously appeared in Oceans 11 and its sequels, as well as 2016’s Money Monster, and Ticket to Paradise has been certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with its early critic reviews. While it may not be a Marvel blockbuster, sometimes a gentle Rom-Com from two old hands of the industry is just what is needed. Ticket to Paradise releases on October 21.
