Barbie is one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the summer! The film about America’s favorite plastic doll hits theaters on July 21st with Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie stepping into the heels of the iconic doll, while fellow Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling portrays Barbie’s boyfriend Ken.
Aside from Robbie and Gosling, the film has an all-star cast that includes Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, and Simu Liu. The cast has been busy doing promotional tours for the upcoming release and sharing secrets about production and having fun filming the movie, but they didn’t let the fun stop after the cameras stopped rolling.
The Barbie cast bonded during sleepovers and pink days while on set
The Barbie film has been gaining a lot of buzz as fans eagerly await to see the fun adventures of Barbie, Ken, and their friends. The making of the film was a fun experience for the cast, who became fast friends.
In an interview with People, the group revealed how they bonded when they were away from the set. Before filming started, Robbie hosted a sleepover with the other actors, according to Liu.
“Margot was so great. She had a sleepover with the Barbies before photography started, and the Kens were allowed to either visit briefly or to phone in and say hi.”
Aside from sleepovers, the cast also attended movie nights at Robbie’s house. The actress made sure her co-stars had a fun time and found a unique way for them to raise money for charity. According to Gosling, Robbie implemented pink days to help raise money for a good cause.
“Margot had this pink day once a week, where everyone had to wear something pink. And if you didn’t, you were fined. She would go around collecting the fines, and she would donate it to a charity.”
Gosling revealed that the crew also got in on the action with the pink dress code.
“What was really special was just how excited the male crew members were. At the end of the film, they all got together and, with their own money, made pink crew shirts with rainbow fringe. It was this opportunity for them to show their respect and admiration for what Margot and Greta Gerwig were creating.”
Looks like the project was a fun experience for both the cast and crew. Fans will get to see the final product when Barbie premieres in theaters nationwide on July 21, 2023.
