Arguably the most universally well-received element of 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” was that of Donald Glover’s portrayal of the one and only charming space scoundrel Lando Calrissian.
Glover, taking on a younger version of Billy Dee Williams’ role from the original and sequel trilogy, has only made a single appearance in that film.
Whilst a “Lando” series was announced as being in early development at the Disney investor day conference in late 2020, nothing appears to have progressed. Glover himself has been buy with music and his “Atlanta” series, which aired its final episode in November last year.
Recently, Glover spoke about his time on “Star Wars” to GQ and confirmed he would “love to play Lando again”, but it would need to be the right project:.
“It just needs to be the right way to do it. Now, time is precious. I think everybody’s like, from the past couple years with this pandemic s—, has really had people experience time in a way where they’re like, ‘Well, why am I [doing this] … I should be around oranges.’ [Glover did the interview in an orchard].
People kind of realized that their time was valuable. You only get so much. So I am not interested in doing anything that’s just going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. So it just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I’d like to hang out with.”
As for where things are now, Glover says conversations are happening behind the scenes: “We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without [Lucasfilm President] Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down.”
Hopefully, there’ll be some more insight from Star Wars Celebration which kicks off in two days.
