Front Mission 2: Remake – Release Date and More

In November 2022, Front Mission 1st: Remake was released for the Nintendo Switch. Now, Forever Entertainment has announced the release details for the sequel, aptly titled Front Mission 2: Remake. A new trailer showing off the look and feel of the new game was released that caps off with a release date, which is currently June 12, 2023.

Front Mission 2: Remake – Release Date and More

The first game’s remake landed fairly quietly towards the end of last year, drowned out by a lot of competition. This is a new chance for Front Mission as a series to make a bigger splash, which has historically been a struggle with the North American audience. But while Final Fantasy XVI stands to suck up most of the RPG oxygen this summer, there’s plenty of space for a smaller game to hit as well, especially since tactical strategy RPGs have been having such a spotlight in recent months.

Front Mission 2: Remake has a much bulkier foundation to stand on compared to the first game, due to its origins on the PlayStation. The first game originally appeared on the Super Famicom before later being ported to various platforms, but its roots are still clearly the 16-bit era. Front Mission 2 has also never been officially localized before, whereas the first game’s Nintendo DS port was released in North America.

For those interested, Forever Entertainment released a list of features, outlining the major changes that have been made from the PlayStation original. Here they are as listed in the YouTube description for the trailer:

  • Improved loading speed
  • Support for many new languages (EN, FR, ES, PT, IT, DE, PL, ZH, JA)
  • New ‘free camera’ option to zoom in during gameplay and check out Wanzers in detail
  • New coloring and camouflage options
  • Modern in-game effects
  • Renewed soundtrack
