On day 1 of production for Joker 2, Todd Phillips shared the very first image from the film with a simple caption that read “Day 1. Our boy. #joker.” The image of Joaquin Phoenix in character as Arthur Fleck AKA Joker shows the convict receiving a shave from who appears to be a orderly at Arkham Asylum. You can see that Joaquin Phoenix has reverted back to the same scraggly physique he had while playing Joker in 2019.
The first film helmed by Todd Phillips was steered to massive success at the box office, with global ticket sales topping $1 billion and earning 11 Academy Award nominations. He now returns to direct “Joker: Folie à Deux”, the sequel to the dark comic book adaptation which has been described as a psychological musical.
The details of the plot are being kept closely under wraps, however the sequel will pick up where we last left the Joker, after he was admitted to Arkham Asylum. Joaquin Phoenix will be joined by Lady Gaga who plays Harley Quinn in the sequel. Brendan Gleeson has also been cast in an undisclosed role and reunited with fellow co-star Joaquin Phoenix for the first time since they worked together on M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village in 2004. Zazie Beetz will reprise her role as Arthur Fleck’s neighbor Sophie.
In August, Todd Phillips and Lady Gaga shared a teaser with the film’s release date.
