First Look At Indian-Nigerian Comedy – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first look at Dilli Dark, an upcoming comedy set for Tallinn Black Nights featuring a rare crossover between Indian and Nigerian culture on screen.

Described as an “amusing and current hip-hop comedy,” the film follows Michael Okeke, a young Nigerian man living in New Delhi who wants to get his MBA and settle in India. But his part-time job as a drug dealer will jeopardize his plans, not to mention the open racism he is facing.

Nollywood actor Samuel Abiola Robinson stars in the film alongside Geetika Vidya Ohlyan (Netflix’s Soni) and Shantanu Anam. The film is set to debut in the South Asian Competition at MAMI in Mumbai and the First Feature Competition at Tallinn Black Nights.

The pic is written and directed by Dibakar Das Roy, who left a career in advertising in the USA to come back to India to tell contemporary Indian stories that are globally relevant. He is a self-taught filmmaker and balanced jobs in advertising and communications while prepping Dilli Dark. The film is his first feature and he developed the story at India’s NFDC Work-in-progress Lab.

Producers on the pic are Udayan Das Roy and Dibakar Das Roy from Reeligion Films LLP. A local distributor is yet to be attached. Totem Films is handling international sales. Tallinn Black Nights runs November 3rd-19th. The festival will debut new works by Emma Dante, Gust Van den Berghe, and Rezo Gigineishvil.
