• Ingrid Goes West (2017) – August 2: One of the best dark comedies you will come across, Ingrid Goes West sees Aubrey Plaza secretly worm her way into the life of her favorite influencer (played by Elizabeth Olsen). A brilliant satire of the online age and parasocial relationships, Matt Spicer’s debut film delivers cringe-comedy with some pretty heavy emotional power. I championed this one when it came to Tubi, but now Netflix subscribers can check out this underrated gem ad-free.
• Swiss Army Man (2016) – August 19: The debut feature from the Daniels of Everything Everywhere All at Once fame delivers a very absurd premise with a lot of heart. Paul Dano plays a man stranded in the wilderness who befriends a flatulent corpse (Daniel Radcliffe) that becomes his unlikely companion and lifeline, using his powerful gas for a series of tasks to help him survive. Utterly absurd, but the exploration of friendship and loneliness makes it surprisingly endearing; this one has both heart and fart.
• SEAL Team (seasons 1–7) – August 18: A fan favorite series whose cancellation after seven seasons was painful for many, including the stars. The grounded military drama stars David Boreanaz as the leader of an elite Navy SEAL unit, and touches on both the intensity of missions and the toll they take on the operators and their families. A reliably tense, well-crafted procedural, the series remains surprisingly bingeable over the course of its 114 episodes.

• The Last House (2026) – August 7: Louis Leterrier directs this sci-fi survival thriller starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura as parents whose family wakes one morning to find their home mysteriously sealed shut by an unexplained force. As resources dwindle and the years pass, they slowly realize this is happening to others, and that some dark force is behind it.
• The Ribbon Hero (2026) – August 8: The debut of animator Yuki Igarashi reimagines Osamu Tezuka’s foundational 1950s manga, Princess Knight. Here, Princess Sapphire is seeking refuge in a new land, but is forced to take up her sword and a mystical ribbon to defend her new home from the forces that destroyed hers.
• My Life with the Walter Boys (season 3) – August 6: The hit YA drama returns for a third season.
• Our Sticky Love (season 1) – August 7: Those in need of their next romantic K-Drama should check out this new series that follows an ambitious prosecutor who loses all her memories after a mysterious accident and finds herself in a rural village with a man claiming to be her husband; where does the truth lie? You will have to watch for yourself to see.
• Ricky Gervais Alley Cats (season 1) – August 7: A new animated comedy project from Ricky Gervais following the lives of a group of alley cats.
• Tires (season 3) – August 13: Shane Gillis’ raunchy workplace comedy set at an auto-repair chain returns for a third season of crude and cringe humor that has already won over a dedicated audience.
• Outer Banks (season 5) – August 20: The Pogues return for the fifth and final season of the hugely popular teen adventure drama; a bittersweet conclusion, with the treasure-hunting crew embarking on one last mission.
• The Whisper Man (2026) – August 28: Adapted from Alex North’s bestselling novel, The Whisper Man follows a widowed crime writer (Adam Scott) whose life spirals when his eight-year-old is kidnapped. He reaches out to his estranged father, a former detective who caught the titular “Whisper Man,” only to find his case and his father have disturbing connections.
