Death of a Salesman – Disruptive Drama Temporarily Suspends Show

Broadway fans took to social media to share news of a pop-up drama happening from the front row of the Hudson Theatre during the second act of Death of a Salesman.  While no one seems to know the nature of the couple’s disgruntlement, Wendell Pierce did his level best to diffuse the situation from centre stage. Sadly, the situation could only be resolved with the application of police authority, as the seemingly intoxicated couple were escorted out.  From the video shared on social media platforms, it looks like help arrived in the nick-of-time as the audience was clearly becoming more disgruntled and impatient as time pressed on.  To the credit of all involved, things did not escalate further and calm was restored.

The second act resumed from the beginning and the old adage, “The Show Must Go On” was never more true to form.

Death of a Salesman is in it’s final run at the Hudson Theatre in New York and runs until January 1, 2023.  It stars Olivier Award nominee Wendell Pierce and 2022 Tony® nominee Sharon D Clarke, as they reprise their roles as Willy and Linda Loman in a revival-told for the first time on Broadway-from the perspective of an African American family.  A new cast of supporting actors join the production in New York, led by Tony® winner André De Shields and Khris Davis.  This powerful interpretation of Miller’s classic drama illuminates the dark underbelly of the American Dream and its elusive promise of equality and opportunity for all.

Besides Wendell Pierce’s theatre credits, many fans will know his work on roles in HBO dramas such as Detective Bunk Moreland in The Wire and trombonist Antoine Batiste in Treme; as well as portraying James Greer in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, high-powered attorney Robert Zane in Suits, and Michael Davenport in Waiting to Exhale, to name a few.
