TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2023 REVIEW! The resilience of the human spirit is on full display in Leaf Lieber’s short film, Burrow.
John (Christian Coulson) is the last survivor after a massive extinction-level event. He lives a solitary life in a cabin in the woods, just trying to survive while fighting the violent memories of what brought him to this point.
Caught off guard, John realizes he is not the only survivor with the arrival of Arian (Marc Crousillat). As John experiences intense feelings of companionship with Arian, can John trust him in the end?
“…the last survivor after a massive extinction-level event.”
In Burrow, filmmaker Leaf Lieber masterfully pushes his protagonist to his mental and emotional limits. Lieber tells the story of a man who struggles with the carnal desire to survive juxtaposed with his carnal desires of intimacy…a feeling he’s not felt for a very long time.
What Lieber does so well is using the medium of film to build and intensify John’s emotional state without the need for long, drawn-out dialogue. In the end, you’re left feeling and empathizing with John.
Burrow will screen at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival.
