Andy Cohen and Kathy Griffin‘s feud dates back several years — and neither has been afraid to share how they really feel.
The Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen host was asked in 2017 about replacing Griffin on CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live special after she was fired earlier that year. He pretended he didn’t know the comedian when TMZ photographers asked about her, seemingly quoting an infamous Mariah Carey line. “Who?” he asked. “I don’t know her.”
Griffin was outraged at the time. “Even when it’s on tape, there are doubters? He is NOT kidding w paps,” she tweeted in October 2017. “Was my boss for 10 years. Treated me like a dog. Deeply misogynistic.”
Cohen and the actress worked together on Bravo for years. Her reality show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, aired six seasons from 2005 to 2010, and she also had several stand-up specials air on Bravo.
However, Griffin found herself outcast from much of Hollywood after she posed for a photo with a prop that looked like President Donald Trump‘s bloody, severed head in spring 2017. Her nine-year gig as Anderson Cooper‘s cohost ended when CNN fired her in response to the graphic photo.
Cooper also denounced the picture at the time, writing in a statement via Twitter that it was “clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.” A few months later, he claimed to Cohen that he and the Illinois native were “still friends.”
In late 2017, a source told Us Weekly exclusively that Griffin was still devastated by Cooper’s reaction to the incident.
“[She is] still really heartbroken over the friendship lost with [him],” the insider explained at the time. “[Her] friendship [with Cooper] ended almost immediately after he tweeted about her photo.”
The source added: “She most definitely feels like Anderson has sided with Andy. She hates Andy Cohen.”
Five years later, Griffin made it clear that she still didn’t have any warm, fuzzy feelings for the Missouri native, calling him a “misogynist” via Instagram in December 2022 and adding that she planned to watch Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, hosted by Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton, to ring in 2023.

The comedian was outraged at the time. “Even when it’s on tape, there are doubters? He is NOT kidding w paps,” she tweeted later that day. “Was my boss for 10 years. Treated me like a dog. Deeply misogynistic.”
The Suddenly Susan alum released a 17-minute YouTube video one day after the TMZ interview was published, titled Kathy Griffin: A Hell Of a Story. She alleged Cohen offered her drugs while appearing on his talk show, and she claimed his inappropriate behavior was the reason why she hadn’t returned.
“Both times I did the show, right before we went live, Andy Cohen privately asked me in an office if I wanted to do blow,” she alleged. “I’ve never had a drink in my life. You guys know I’m no prude but I’m kind of like a straightedge, I thought he was kidding the first time.”
Cohen took to Twitter the same day to respond to the accusations, writing, “I am completely stunned by this story. It is 100% false and totally made up.” A Bravo spokesperson also told Us at the time, “This is completely false and we are not going to credit it with any more attention.”
The Real Housewives producer explained his quote on October 30, 2017. “All I have to say about the mishegas of this weekend, and I only have one thing to say about this bag of bulls–t,” he said on his SiriusXM radio show, Andy Cohen Live, while explaining that he attempted to avoid the TMZ videographer’s questions about Griffin by deciding to “quote the great Mariah Carey, which is funny in my mind.”
“Usually with TMZ, you’re walking and you say your thing and you get in your car. Well, my driver parked on the second level of the parking lot. So we’re standing there all that time waiting for the elevator, and that’s why it kept going on and on,” Cohen continued. “And I didn’t really know how to pivot in the conversation. Like, ‘What, what, I don’t know!’ So I failed my Mariah impression.”
Cohen appeared on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show in May 2018, which is when he attempted to find an optimistic outlook on their rift. “She’s like, selling out all these venues. She’s having a huge … she loves to have a comeback, she loves publicity. Everything’s good for her,” he claimed.
“I’m on Bravo all these hours. I get it. So hate me,” he continued as Stern asked if he felt “used” by Griffin. “I’ll be that guy for you, if it makes you happy and gives you peace.”
“I’m just not going to take it on,” he added. “I’m at peace. I’m a lover, not a fighter.”
“She’s made up a lot of stuff about me in the past few years that has just been untrue and sad,” Cohen told USA Today in July 2019. “I hope she finds some peace.”
“This is a guy that I think kind of wanted to be me. And now he’s halfway there,” Griffin said in a January 2022 New York Times profile, comparing Cohen to All About Eve character Eve Harrington. “And now he’s halfway there.” Griffin added that she had “hate-watched” Cohen and Cooper’s 2021-22 New Year’s Eve special.
In December 2022, Griffin revealed that she is often sent Cohen’s TMZ interview around New Year’s Eve. “Ugh. Every year someone sends me this clip around New Year’s Eve,” the Emmy winner wrote via Instagram on New Year’s Eve. “This guy was my boss for years. Decided whether or not I worked at Bravo. Can you imagine seeing your ex boss on TMZ like … this? Ouch! Anyway, I can’t wait to watch Miley [Cyrus] and Dolly [Parton] tonight. ??⚡️.” She added the hashtag, “misogynist.”
