Emmy-nominated filmmaker Ryan White (“The Keepers”) directs an intimate and revealing portrait of a pop culture icon in “Pamela, a love story“.
In her own words, through personal video and diaries, Pamela Anderson shares the story of her rise to fame, rocky romances and infamous sex tape scandal.
An intimate and humanizing portrait of one of the world’s most famous blonde bombshells, Pamela, a love story follows the trajectory of Pamela Anderson’s life and career from small town girl to international sex symbol, actress, activist and doting mother.
Speaking with Vanity Fair about this documentary, Director Ryan White says he got to know the real Pamela and the experience was truly rewarding, he goes on to say “From the very beginning, she was like, ‘You can ask me anything. I will talk about anything. I will be nothing but honest with you about it all.”
Pamela had been very upfront while filming, providing the filmmakers with all the material they needed, decades worth of home movies, journals, photos and more. This helped the filmmakers get a better idea of Pamela’s story and how she went from model, to movie star to mother.
One very delicate subject that Pamela speaks about in this documentary is the infamous stolen sex tape. “The infamous stolen tape, which we’re always very careful to call ‘the stolen tape’ and not ‘sex tape,’ was just one of hundreds of hours that they filmed,” says White, “There’s no calculation with how Anderson thinks about these types of things. It’s all just about being raw and honest, for better or worse. It made for a really emotional film and I’m really grateful that I got to work with someone like that.”
White has taken great care with telling Anderson’s story in this film.
Netflix’s Pamela, a love story documentary will be released on the streaming platform on January 31, 2023.
